the friendship between bram and aya is one of my favourite interactions in all of bsd. the way bram went from initially trying to shoo her away to growing to really care about her is something i really love.

the fact that he keeps insisting aya leave him to keep herself safe is really sweet, especially knowing how terrible bram will be treated if he were to be retrieved.

and the fact that he looked genuinely scared for her as soon as she jumps actually makes me so sad. aya was the first person to treat bram like an actual person in an extremely long time, and now she’s risking her life for him and he can’t do anything to stop her.

aside from that, bram also provides a lot of comic relief in the intense arc and it really makes their friendship feel like a lot of fun.

i adore these two and i really hope we get to see more silly interactions between them

Underrated adorable thing Kyouka does is when someone gives her something to do and/or tries to show her something new and she gives it her full, serious attention.

It could be a matter of life-or-death. It could be delivering an important document. It could be taking care of a cat. It could be mixing a little candy. Doesn't matter.

Someone: *showing Kyouka a thing*

Kyouka: *staring intently, laser-fucking-focused*

What makes this so good to me is that it's nothing to do with her mafia training - she tends to go numb and distant when her assassin instincts kick in. When she focuses like this, it's driven by her genuine want to learn how to do the thing and do it perfectly. And yeah, part of this is also likely to do with her want to prove that she can do good things, but there are a million different ways she could go about this and she chooses... to watch people. To listen and learn and try her hardest at every single little thing she does. Honestly, I don't think this is anything she picked up from anyone - I think she's just like that. She gives everything she does her full attention.

And yeah, sometimes she gets a little too into it (tasing the guy she was supposed to deliver the files to, making a gigantic tower of god grub...) but she's got the spirit.

You guys she's so cute. She's SO cute. And also I think so incredibly strong for this. I don't think Kyouka fully realizes how much of her recovery is due her own consistent dogged efforts. Atsushi and the Agency gave her an opportunity and a safe home base and she took it and ran with it through her own conviction (in spite of all the setbacks), making herself brighter in the process.

the longer I simmer on this panel and look at those panels of Dazai and the glowing gun and Chuuya’s reaction to Dazai’s words before and after, the more I’m wondering if those in the port mafia (or at least just Akutagawa and Chuuya for right now) are somewhat aware of what’s going on or coming back to their senses

I don’t have a deep analysis but considering how Akutagawa spared Aya and apparently helped her with the window, and now we have Chuuya maybe killing Dazai (or maybe sparing him and creating the illusion of killing him in some form of deception) and having this look on his face that looks a little less like his usual scowl and a little more like an actual frown…. Idk I just keep going over how Chuuya can manipulate gravity and we’ve seen him manipulate bullets, how the blood patterns are slightly off and how potentially he could’ve shot Dazai but manipulated the bullet to go elsewhere.

How? I don’t know. Again this isn’t a deep analysis and I haven’t given it much thought as I’m still processing everything in this chapter but idk. I keep thinking that Aku and Chuuya are still in there somehow and idk I’m rambling but I’m interested to see how things turn out after this because that chapter was whew

You may already know of my OCs, Ramora (my duskwight WoL) and Ger (my Ishgardian OC, Haurchefant's most loyal knight)!

Ramora is pan, Ger is demi. They are both poly & multiship.

I have many pairings together with my RP partner @lynnslight, but our main ships are RamLynn & AyaGer. 🎨: @/rozelque

Lynn is a dragon from a different world who was called to Eorzea by Hydaelyn. In a good bit of our universes, she is a co-WoL with Ram! Though it is a Scooby-Doo revolving door type situation, where they haven't met until the start of Shadowbringers.

Aya is a Fae Fox, Cleric to the Goddess Inari, who can travel from world to world. In most of our universes, she worlds travels to Eorzea, to Coerthas in particular, and meets Ger. ❤️ Most often, this is post Heavensward.

I also ship Ger with my friend @lukeslikefire's nonbinary OC, Kaoru!

In this universe, Kaoru (they/them) is the WoL. We both love Haurchefant a whole lot, so ofc we had to make it an OT3 💕

Haurchefant seems to have a thing for short redheads 🤔

I’m finding increasingly that although there are definitely other poster children for this trope, my favorite Redemption Arc in movies and TV is probably Razer’s from Green Lantern: The Animated Series, and a lot of that is because so much of his arc centers not around figuring out that what he’s done is wrong and switching sides, but on his rehabilitation after having done so. And I think that’s interesting to me because I feel like most of the time we think of the Redemption Arc as the build up to that decision to switch sides, with anything that happens after being payoff. But here, we’re getting the so-called “payoff” as the bulk of the arc. Razer unlearning the ideology he’d internalized while serving under Atrocitus, learning other ways of coping with and working to mitigate the harm he’d caused and learning how to do better. One of the heroes offering a hand up and him taking it isn’t the conclusion here, it’s the beginning.

And I think that especially intrigues me at this time because several Redemption Arcs I’d been following in other media kind of took the attitude of, “Ope, we’ve finished their arc now, they’re on the good guys side, guess we can’t tell anymore stories with that. We should probably kill them off now.” It’s incredibly refreshing to go back to this show and see the writers basically go, “Can’t do anything else with their story? Buddy, we’ll do their entire story on the other side of that switch!”

#though it also kind of makes me really annoyed that the show got canned #since given what happened to aya in the manhunters storyline it would have been awesome to see their roles now shifted #since he would be able to relate to her now in a way that hal and kilowog would not have any experience with #green lantern the animated series #gltas #rin rambles #redemption arcs #writer things #of course it's also a relief because i have been playing a certain superhero game recently #which i feel sometimes errs a little too far on the retributive/punitive side of things #in a way that makes me a bit uncomfortable since it is disproportionately punitive towards *some* rogues over others #despite similar severity in their actions

So I have thoughts about the new manga chapter and the cycle of abuse and redemption (spoilers for chapter 110.5 and the anime season 5 finale)

So, the current (very condensed) chain of abuse/redemption looks something like this:

Mori -> abuses Dazai -> abuses Akutagawa -> abuses Kyouka <- saved by Atsushi <- saved by Dazai <- saved (/encouraged to be saved) by Oda

The hinge character here is really Dazai who (if you ignore Mori and Oda) is something of a point of divergence in the chain - i.e. he continues the chain of abuse with Akutagawa, but also continues the chain of healing with Atsushi (who's been abused by his "father figure", the orphanage director, who he also had a very conflicting relationship with).

Now, if we look at the information we've gotten about Aya - specifically her relationship with her father (which this super interesting post from @soupthatistohot talks about), we see a conflict - previous chapters have shown him to be extremely abusive, but 110.5 paints him in an admirable, respectable light - which is not dissimilar to Atsushi and the orphanage director.

To go more into speculative territory now, I'm going to assume for a moment that the Akutagawa saving Aya will be true in the manga.

(Obviously he was in a vampiric state when he did that but bear with me here)

Given the parallels in the ideas of parental abuse between Atsushi and Aya, I think it's possible that their healing will bear similarities, too. To return to the cycle, Atsushi was 'saved' by the hinge character Dazai (that term is used loosely because of course it was not just him but he was the main mentor of sorts).

I think it would be interesting, then, if Akutagawa were to also become a hinge character in helping Aya to heal.

Thematically, it would make sense, since he's already saved her once (although, again, in vampiric state) and I think it would absolutely fit into his character arc and his own redemption.

Plus, it would be an interesting parallel to the chain of saving:

Oda saves Dazai -> Dazai saves Atsushi

Compared to:

Atsushi (who Dazai has compared to Oda) saves Akutagawa (the character previously aligned with PM Dazai) -> Akutagawa saves Aya (the character with a lot of parallels to Atsushi)

I just think this would be a super fascinating and also really fitting direction for Akutagawa's character to go in, and I also absolutely need to see more of Aya in the next arc.
