i love and appreciate the fact that literally everyone who watched the raya and the last dragon trailers took one look at Naamari and Raya and went “ah, yes, sword lesbians”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
EDIT: so i posted this like a week+ before i saw the movie and i would to add: i feel uncomfortable posting about ratld without acknowledging the cultural significance of Disney having a SEA princess! because dude!! that’s big!!! i love the girls but also this movie has a WHOLE lot more going it for it than shipping and people seem to be forgetting that?

Just a fun little post with jealous Namaari because it feels like I’m being burnt to a crisp out here. Anyways. Namaari sapphic yearning series and oblivious Raya headcanon series:
Raya, riding on Tuk Tuk during a hot day: *chugging water and like half of it just streams down her neck*
Fang citizens: *checking Raya out since she’s also in a revealing outfit cause it’s like a million degrees out*
Raya, sighing as she approaches a vendor: hey do you mind if I use this mirror real quick? I need to apply sunscreen and my mirror is sorta kinda shattered
Fang vendor, looking her up and down: that’s totally fine with me
Raya, applying sunscreen on her face and neck: fantastic-
Namaari, showing up and shoving Raya behind her so that the vendor can’t see Raya anymore: okay that’s enough of that
Raya, with her eye twitching and thinking Namaari shoved her to annoy her: look I know we have this whole thing going on where we piss each other off but it’s way to hot for this
Namaari, holding up her hands in defense: hey I promise I’m not here to start anything. It looks like you need help putting on sunscreen. Need my assistance?
Raya, narrowing her eyes suspiciously: I don’t think I know how I feel about your hands all over me
Namaari, grinning wickedly: well I know I certainly wouldn’t mind
Raya, thinking Namaari wants to snap her neck:……right. Well since I’m too tired to care right now just go for it but you better not step a toe out of line binturi
Namaari, already putting the sunscreen on Raya’s back: oh I’d never
Raya, sighing as Namaari starts to massage her back: who know you were good at massages
Namaari, internally: god she’s so hot spirits help me-
Raya, after Namaari finishes the sunscreen: thanks dep la I appreciate the help
Namaari: I think I need a bit of repayment
Raya, already sprinting away: NAMAARI PLEASE IM BROKE I WILL NOT GIVE YOU MY JADE
Namaari: THATS NOT WHAT I MEANT GET BACK HERE-

@boomthedruun Hi, this is in reply to your post here.
(Edit: I very belatedly realized that I messed up the link to boomthedruun’s post when I first posted this. It’s fixed now, so the context for my response below will hopefully make better sense.)
First, thanks for taking the time to write up such a detailed response. I appreciate it, as it helps me better understand why the movie fails to reach some viewers and also to think more about the movie in different ways.
I also apologize for the length of this response. I won't reply point-by-point to every issue you raised since that would be too long and I don't want to impose even more on your time. (If you're interested, I'd be happy to make another post explaining my thoughts on some of the narrative issues you raised. But if not, that's fine too. Rest assured I did read through all of your response.)
After reading your explanation and thinking over things, I realized that what moved me to reply to your original post is this: I feel strongly that it's unjust to take the shortcomings we find in a movie and dismiss them as creative mistakes.
Because sometimes it's the storytellers that make mistakes and fail at the job they set out to do. But sometimes it's the viewers that fail to hear out the story they're telling. (And sometimes it's a bit of both.)
We may not enjoy a movie or feel dissatisfied by how its story is told, and we can and should talk about that. But that doesn't always mean the movie does a poor job of storytelling. Sometimes, the movie does a good job, and we're the ones who weren't prepared to see it.
Of course, we all bring our own expectations and biases (good call on my Sisu profile picture ;) when we watch a movie. But they shouldn't be the guiding criteria when evaluating its storytelling qualities or creative accomplishments. It's important to judge a movie for what it is (or trying to be) and unfair to put it down for not being what we want.
This is especially so for a movie like RATLD. When people explain what they find lacking in RATLD's storytelling, I find that their issues are often rooted in how the movie doesn't do what they expect or want. And that's fair to talk about, but the problem I have is when the issue is attributed to poor storytelling (or a lack of skill or care on the creators’ part).
Here's the thing—I think RATLD does exactly what its makers meant it to do. They want us to experience the disappointment of betrayed expectations, just like Raya does. Because RATLD is at heart an educational movie. It seeks to teach us some difficult lessons about the importance of trust and compassion, how trust really works, how inherently risky it is, and how we can trust more wisely. That's why its storytelling is so protagonist-centered (at the expense of better showing the rest of the world and other characters)—to take us on a journey of learning to trust more wisely, much like Raya's.
On this journey, we find that Raya betrays us by proving a somewhat unreliable narrator. Sisu betrays us by being unimpressively goofy and naive. Benja betrays us by being not very inspirational. (Benja's speech is unimpressive because they want to show us that he's an unimpressive speechmaker. The bridge scene characterizes him as a man doing something he's not ready for, because he believes he has to.) What the story is asking us to do is look past their failure to live up to our expectations, so that we can appreciate who they really are and what they have to teach us.
(I want note here that I didn't arrive at these conclusions without struggling with this movie and my own views about where its storytelling falls short. For example, I also felt it was a mistake for them to make it so protagonist-centered. As I kept studying the movie and thinking on what I may be missing, I came to better appreciate why they chose to do it. I love RATLD because it inspires me to work hard to love it, not because I find it flawless.)
As an epic adventure story in a fantasy world, RATLD falls short of the level of detailed exposition and world building we expect from such stories. This is a deliberate storytelling choice. It's not because these creators don't know how to tell a good epic fantasy. And it’s also not because they want to take easy shortcuts in telling their story. They took those shortcuts as a means of reaching their most important storytelling goal—showing and telling us all the movie’s lessons on trust. Because that's what our world needs right now.
I see the makers of RATLD as the Benjas, Sisus, and Rayas of our world—storytellers who took a brave and necessary step. They didn't take the safe route of making a conventional adventure story with an easily digestible message, something familiar that would satisfy the majority of the audience. They took the dangerous route of telling a story that's harder for us to digest (because its lessons are complicated and hard to teach and learn). And they took the risk of making a movie that's easily misunderstood, with the hope that we'll be forgiving toward its faults and accept its lessons as gifts crafted with care and given in earnest. I evaluate their creative work very highly for this.
Now, creative achievement is not the only kind of evaluation we can make regarding a movie. And you raise a very valid point on how the movie's approach to representing Southeast Asia (or the marketing of it as such) can be offputting. As a Korean who finds Korean American literature hard to enjoy, I can sympathize with this kind of discomfort.
And of course, I can't dispute you on the point of emotional impact, since that's subjective. But I'm glad you found Encanto so impactful and enjoyable (especially after being disappointed with RATLD). For me, both movies are emotionally impactful in different ways.
Lastly, I want to point out that movies like Moana and Frozen 2 were stepping stones to the heights they're reaching now. After all, storytellers can't grow and improve their craft if they don't try new and different things and learn from the experience. I think it's wonderful that Disney animators are still striving to grow and raising the bar so high on movies that are different from each other, like RATLD and Encanto. This might be the start of another golden age for them—how exciting is that? :)

RATLD Headcanons pt. 3
Rayamaari Love Languages
When Namaari is hard on herself, which she is a lot, she degrades herself or spars\fight\hit a dumby until it hurts.
Raya on the other hand, punishes herself. She doesn't let herself get any luxury or any fun. She convinces herself she isn't worth it. She also tends to fight or spar until it hurts.
Namaari acts all tough as shit around everyone, but the moment Raya gives her a complement she dies
She's a blushing disaster and literally breaks down.
Praise kink
First time Raya recognizes this is when she gives Namaari a genuine complement for the first time ever. It's either:
"Nice fight, dep la. I can see you've been working out."
Or
"You're... stunning in that ao dai, dep la."
Both leaving her blushing and stuttering.
Raya finds this absolutely adorable and does it more, her heart so full.
They will just be sitting together and Raya will go, "you're beautiful." Namaari turns beat red. "Shut up." "Oh, come on. You love when I complement you!" "I do not-."
"It's okay, dep la. You're still sexy as fuck." "Oh my fucking toi, Raya..."
Raya leaning over to say in a low voice after a spar or something, "good girl." "RAYA!"
"Tell me you love me." *smiles and eyes full of admiration* "I love you, Namaari."
"Why do you love me?" "Where do I fucking start-?"
One day, Namaari takes Raya out for just some fun or to hang out, no work or anything. Just them being them.
Raya is practically glowing, so full of love and happiness and so giddy. Namaari can't get enough of it.
Namaari makes it her mission in life to spend some time with Raya (mostly alone) as often as she possibly can. Whether if it's just existing next to each other in the same room, cuddling while talking\reading, or a date out on the town\travelling.
Raya looks at Namaari with these huge, loving eyes and it just melts Namaari's heart.
Raya absolutely loves when Namaari suddenly out of the blue says, "let's go walk around Heart." Or "do you want to go see Sisu or just hang out here by ourselves?" It makes her feel wanted and appreciates Namaari asking her what she wants to do.
*Namaari walks into bedroom, climbs into Raya's lap and just hugs her* *Raya smiles and hugs her back*
"I kinda just want to stay here today, if that's alright." "Of course, dep la. Do you want to play a game or just cuddle?"
"Can I have five minutes to just... exist next to you?" "You can have more than just five minutes, Raya."
They end up finding out that they just can't keep their hands off of each other.
Not (always) in a sexual way.
Raya will grab Namaari's hand randomly and she will just smile like an idiot.
Namaari will lean her head on Raya and she will just melt.
Running up to each other to hug the other if they haven't seen each other in a while, and the hug lasts so long and it's so tight. "Namaari's turning blue, Raya." "Shut it, Sisu."
Namaari often asks if what she is doing it okay
"Is this alright?" "It's perfect, dep la."
*holding each other while the other does work or reads*
*Raya's face pressed into Namaari's back, hugging her tightly*
"Is this comfortable?" "Very."
"Can I hug you?" "You seriously don't need to ask."
"Can I kiss you?" "Fuck yeah you can!"
"Is it alright if I hold your hand?" "Of course."
And it's a surprise when Raya finds out that Namaari won't let anyone touch her, sometimes not even her own mother. It's like a spoken rule in Fang to not touch the Princess or she'll break your arm.
It makes her feel all that more special.
When she goes to talk to Namaari about it, Namaari isn't sure why either. She just can't handle anyone touching her that isn't Raya. She is fine with her mother giving her a hug it a small pat on the shoulder, but she doesn't go and seek them out. "It's just... It makes me uncomfortable. But not with you, never with you." "You're going soft for me, dep la."
Raya starts to make sure what she does it okay as well, not as often but she still does.
"Promise to tell me if I do anything that makes you uncomfortable, alright?"
"Hey, I wanna kiss you. Is that alright?" "Yes."
"I need a hug." "I got two empty arms right here."
"Hold me?" "Always."
*hanging out with the gang* "Why is Namaari in your lap?" "Because I fucking want her there, Sisu!"
*kissing each other's scars*
*Namaari kisses a scar on Raya* "Remember when you gave me that?" "You're ruining the mood, Raya."
*kisses the palm of hands while looking at the other with loving eyes*
*tired kisses*
"I gotta go! Bye! I love you!" *Raya kisses and runs away* *Namaari smiling like an idiot*
Sparring is so fun, they get to practice physical combat while spending time together, talking, and touching each other (not in that way maybe).
"Nice swing."
"Oh, I'm sorry, are you okay?"
"How's TukTuk doing?"
*kisses nose during spar*
*pinning each other by the wrists*
"Have you been practicing without me?"
"You're so fucking hot when you're all sweaty-." "Shut the fuck up."
"Any plans tonight?"
"I love you." *takes the final blow*
*Namaari gives a strong punch* "Good girl, dep la." *Namaari breaks down* *raya takes her down and kisses her*
They both suck at gift giving.
They end up trading off the sisu necklace every so often, mostly in Raya's possession.
They usually end up giving each other useful things or things the keep as memory.
"I didn't know what to get you, Princess Minimalist but I saw this knife that has Sisu engraved in it and thought of you." *Nearly cries*
"I... got you this." *gives Raya a necklace of a cat or something* "if you don't want it, I understand, you aren't really a cat-." "No, no, no! I'll take it!" *loves it because it remind her of Namaari's serlot and therefore Namaari* (she wears it whenever she doesn't have the sisu necklace)
"You said you needed more of [object], so I got you some." "Namaari, you fucking romantic shit."
"I'm not going to lie, I have no idea what to get you but I thought instead I could offer a whole day of whatever you want to do. We could go to town, hang out with the gang, spend sometime together.... alone." "All of it."

Raya: I once had a crush on a girl in my school and I didn't know what to do about it so I wrote a note and put it in her locker saying, "get out of my school."
Sisu:

Season 2 and Season 3 each start with Janai and Amaya fighting... I'm hoping Season 4 starts with Janai and Amaya as well perhaps a kiss.

Sneak peek for my upcoming Fanfiction
"You saved my life." Janai said, eyes conflicted as she looked at Amaya. "Twice," she added.
Amaya shyly smiles, nodding.
"How am I going to repay you?"
The General thought for a moment as she stared at the paper in her hands, but she already knew that Janai didn't have to repay her.
Amaya shakes her head. "Don't." Janai's brows knit together, but Amaya writes before she could speak.
'I think you already have. You showed me Xadia, a place so different and so beautiful. You showed me that elves aren't monsters - you showed me something that changed my life. I can't get it out of my mind, and I can't get you out of it either.'

Let’s talk about Mbita... (AKA how there’s hope for RAYAARI!!!)
Guys, we can have some hope for that one ship most of us in the Ratld Fandom have been wanting, our two princess... together...
Let me present these thoughts in order...
So, for those of us who have seen Baymax (the series), there is this one particular character... Mbita.
Tumblr media
He, asked this guy out... Yukio. (YES DISNEY LET HIM DO THAT!) specifically... this part
Tumblr media
Let me rephrase this.... HE OPENLY ASKED ANOTHER GUY OUT ON A DATE!
So, Disney can do it... they aren’t all that incapable of showing this kinda love. they have dabbled in the past... with Oaken... and even Judy’s neighbors in zootopia. Also Pixar has done it before them.
In lightyear, Alicia Hawthorne (Ig Izzy’s granddaughter, idk I haven’t seen the movie yet) is with another woman. They actually do kiss in that movie, which got lightyear banned in like 14 countries... (and also why I am suspecting theaters in my country did not show it either, and I didn’t even find my country saying they specifically banned lightyear) But that wasn’t Pixar’s fault. they are doing an amazing thing and I really, really appreciate them for it. I’ll wait for lightyear.
Funny how Pixar takes the big leap first and then Disney follows... they catch on late sometimes, but whatever.
Disney makes side characters GAY, but hasn’t given the same treatment to may protagonists. I am personally not a person who hasn’t watched The Owl House yet, but I do know they made two characters, Luz and Amity, kiss. It was super brief and hesitant on Disney’s part, but they did it. I feel they were lacking the confidence. (Idk. As I said, haven’t really watched The Owl House yet, but these are just my thoughts.)
So, knowing that they can make this true, they have a brilliant chance to make Rayaari, if they ever do a series or something. There’s hope for them. And this way they would be supporting lgbt rights too. So here’s a request Disney, you did it for Disney+, just bring it out for those in mainstream... there are some chances still. Isabella, (if I can trust what I’m hearing and what the Fandom’s been upto with Elsabella, and even Diane Gurerro’s opinion on her character) and well, Raya. There’s scope for sequels, and knowing this, I believe, they can give Raya her Princess.
TOO MANY THINGS ARE LEADING TO RAYAARI OKAY? JUST DROP THE ANGST AND MAKE THEM KISS PLEASE...
And with that I close this post. Happy good last day of June.
What a brilliant way to close Pride Month!!!

Are you alright? I’m generally worried about you and your well being. I’m sorry that I don’t talk to you that much because I feel like you will hate me soon. Please don’t hurt yourself or even kill yourself because it won’t get anything better. I always check what you posted, like RATLD or Monkie Kid or anything else you post on this blog. But please don’t harm yourself in anyway shape or form, that’s is a no go. You reblogs made me happy whenever I read them. So I hope that you are alright, even if your brain isn’t, I still hope that you are fine and alive.
Here’s a ghost hug

Aw, thanks man. I appreciate that you still follow me while I’m in different fandoms now.

part 4 rayaari thoughts please never shut up i love u and your thoughts on ratld <///3
A lil late but part 4 LESGO. 👀👀 Part one. Part two. Part three. Part five.  Part six.
Exhibit K:
Okok so I missed some important things after the spine scene smh. I only remember them after I made the post so here.
Here’s more of #worriedpotentialgf as Virana tells her that its none of her concern now.
Tumblr media
I think that a heavy part of Namaari knows exactly what she’s gonna do and what she’s capable of doing but she asks anyway hoping to hear the opposite from her mother dearest. Those deeply concerned eyes and the way her face pinches as thoughts flash in her head. (This one isnt particularly Rayaari but it's worth the mention coz I love Namaari) I'd like to acknowledge Namaari's body language here after consulting her mother about helping Sisu bring everyone back
Tumblr media
God, this scene is quite something. We see badass Fang princess here shrinking into herself as Virana turns to her with a lot of intensity. And I just think that this adds so much depth into Namaari's character. How complex she really is in terms of her relationships with everyone around her and how her behaviour and personality is rooted around that.  We see how her shoulders close up and her head coming inwards, almost like a turtle retreating back to its shell. And her downward gaze after. Body language is so important coz it says alot about a character. And here we see the fear that actually is present when her mother disapproves, or she does something that she doesn’t like.
I have a hate love relationship with Virana but during this scene I definitely didn’t like her. I’m all for hot, powerful milfs but 👁👄👁 I dont appreciate you screamin at my girl Namaari like that.
We see how Namaari has always done everything to please her mother, her decisions for Fang and to make sure not to disappoint her only parent. So this could be rooted through traumatizing fear and the high heavy expectations of her own tribe on her shoulders. She cant seem to catch a break when for once she considers the actual good side of things and potentially team up with Raya. Yet she always zeroes back in to her mother and Fang.
She’s still quite young and we seem to forget that by how hardened she had become so it's hard to know if you would see this behavior as cowardly when in reality it could just be from the childhood trauma she had growing up.
Exhibit L:
L STANDS FOR LOVE THIS DAMN SCENE.
OKAY let's go back to that part when Namaari offers the gem!! I missed some things again.
*AHEM*.
Namaari's lowkey surprised bewildered look. That amused huff. That tiny GENUINE smile. That SOFT look.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Raya's expectant look. That SOFT and studying gaze. That awkward and shy grin.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The LAYERS of this scene was *chef's kiss* it was the calm before the storm. But there was that raw genuineness of it all.
Did yall feel the crazy tension too and was everyone else at the edge of their seats biting their nails in anticipation? Who else let out a feral scream?
Anywya, yes. I think this is probably the first time we saw them with their guards lowered temporarily and actually not hostile against each other. There’s no bitter banter here, no pushing off buttons, no scowls and frowns. Just pure surprise and soft smiles. This is them being honest for once.
Even if there’s Namaari's hidden intention, I feel like she forgets it for a moment when she sees the pendant and how Raya explained that she took care of it all these years. And I'm sure that made Namaari feel somethin inside her. Probably made her heart swell happily but she didn’t know the actual meaning of it all just yet.
You see how SOFT her eyes are while looking at Raya. And there's Raya studying Namaari's reaction nervously, the way she waits, probably slightly afraid and kinda embarrassed of what she might think after knowing she took care of her GIFT after all these years and after all she's done and what they've been through.
I bet Namaari's thoughts filled with a flood of why’s? but she can't help the little smile that tugs on her lips that she kept the only thing that connected them. The day she gave the gift, the day it all went wrong, but with no malice in mind, just the young girl with soft honey eyes invaded her senses, her body moved by itself offering her necklace. To think she kept it all these years.
I'm fine.
Exhibit M:
Phewww. Let's talk about that intense and most sapphic fight, shall we?
Besides the obvious Raya on kill mode and each strike of her blade literally had pure intention to end her potential gf.
Let's skip to the end of the fight ish!
Ok besides the lowkey hilarity of this screenshot. How ominously Raya stands behind, I cant help but laugh. In all seriousness tho, we see Namaari looking at the pendant that fell of her pocket.
Tumblr media
Then here's Namaari grabbing the pendant with her beefy arms and clutching it to her heart like it's the most dearest thing in the world, which we all know it is.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think this part is quite important. Because we see her at her most vulnerable here. Stripped from her weapons and hardened armor with completely nothing else to lose as her tribe and the whole world collapses around her. She's here about to probably let Raya slaughter her so she offers her last words.
We all have that part memorized or is it just me, "I've never meant for any of this to happen"
What she says about Sisu's death also being Raya's fault, is honestly her last try to somehow get into the other girl's skin, a last strike but without her blades. She knows it's the truth, and nothing hurts more like the truth. I think she didn’t really have time to properly formulate her last few sentences besides it bring rooted from desperation and pure resignation.
But the way Namaari says "that's why we're here" I think is a poor attempt to fully blame Raya for what happened. I know maybe in this context she meant them shooting Sisu but I feel like it's even more that that. I think a heavy part of her knows it's all her fault too but can’t help herself from throwing and extending the blame further to someone else. It's basically how they've both been and functioned anyway. Accusations, anger and resentment.
And Raya who held a strong hate for Namaari but a stronger hate for herself as she carried the heavy blame of trusting the Fang girl in the first place, took what she said personally. Like she knew it, a very harsh painful truth and a burden Raya probably has carried for years.
Which leads us to the important realization after that. Raya backtracks and considers her actions. How her expression shifts from realization back to anger maybe hesitating thinking Namaari was just playing with her again but then resigning to the disgusting reality of what she was about to do, on the verge of tears as she stared at her reflection on the ridiculously shiny af sword of what she had become. That Namaari was right. This wasn't just the Fang princess' fault, it was also hers.
Tumblr media
Maybe she also realizes her selfishness for not trusting Sisu in the first place. How impatient she was that she contributed to her death. She was the one who didn't give Namaari a chance. And it's a bitter truth to face. And here she was about to brutally slash the other princess out, her judgement completely clouded with rage.
Are we doing ok here guys?
Coz I'm not. Aha.
I'd like to add this bonus because of it's pure aesthetic feels.
Can we talk about Raya's ability to fuckin disappear like the wind took her?? Like girl, SHEEEEESH.
Tumblr media
Anyway besides that, we see the genuine shock Namaari wears here realizing that the princess didn’t pull through with killing her. A realization that probably confused her a bit coz a part of her maybe feels like she deserved to die. She was ready for it anyway.
Also how pretty is that sky and clouds in Fang while the sun shines through those archways. The art is terrifically breathtaking.

GUYYS I DIDN’T KNOW THERES A 10 PICTURE LIMIT.
Guess I'll see yall in part 5? 🤡

So it's the 5th of March...
Happy one year anniversary Raya. This movie is great!
And now might be a good time to say, I took this one lil too seriously. I'm writing a novel on it... well, the sequel i would want (cause the fandom's gotta be self sufficient :) )
Its not ready... it's a real long book. I'm not sure exactly how I'll publish it tho, as Ao3 is... as great as it is, it feels a lil outdated. (Don'tget me wrong, I love Ao3... just not sure how a novel length story would work on it...) But that's a question for later.
The great part is though, this is my first whole book. It's practice. Any and all endeavours in writing are dearly loved. I love Raya and all its characters. And I love writing them.
I'm so happy that this movie came out. It really got me thinking... my thoughts on it evolved and eventually one accidental 11 page exerpt between Raya and Benja turned to a 31 chapter outline. I don't know when the first draft will be done, nor when I'll upload it somewhere. (I'm thinking wattpad us a strong one but I'm open to suggestions.)
But regardless, it's the first book. Idk if it really has to be posted anywhere... I enjoy it, I enjoy these characters and I'll write it.
It's been a year. I started working on this in April. I wrote six whole chapters by hand (That was 248 whole pages!) before I shifted to digital... since then I've posted two of the excerpts (which have made it into the book) as one fic on Ao3... in "You're not a heartless monster"
I'm so glad I started and that I'm doing a novel. Its such a wholesome, creative process. Raya's story, even tho I'm not SEA, felt close somehow... Raya was relatable. And I love her for that.
(Now that I've said all this... I'm in no rush to publish the story. I would love if the fandom gets to read it, but I want to give it time to become the best i can make it. Even though I'm working on time-bound constraints, because schedules...😪 I'm hoping I finish it soon. And if it ever does come out anywhere, personal blog, wattpad, whatever... I hope the fans of Ratld like it...)
😊

(Another Raya appreciation post because today's March 5, so why not?)
Sisu, *now running away from Namaari and the Fang gang with Raya*: "So, like... mind telling me why you're being hunted?"
Raya: "Let's just say, I may or may not have something in my possession that may or may not be of interest to other interested parties..."

Tong: Raya? What’s wrong?
Raya: Hm? Oh nothing- I’m just bummed because Namaari didn’t let me borrow something from her.
Tong:...So she...hurt your feelings...?
Raya: ..I guess so yeah- wait where are you going?
Tong: [cracks knuckles] I'll be right back.

No cause the asks on @ratld-sideblog about Raya basically being Mermista are sending me so I had to make a lil post. Basically in this Virana just kinda broke into the chamber which caused everything to go down. Namaari was with Raya when it happened and snuck her onto the boat to save her:
12 year old Raya, sobbing in 12 year old Namaari’s bed: JUST BURY ME IN THESE BLANKETS! ALL IM GOOD FOR IS FAILURE SO I MIGHT AS WELL JUST STAY HERE FOREVER *shoves her entire being in the blanket pile*
Namaari, sighing: look I’m really sorry about what happened but you need to be quiet! Mother can’t know you’re here! Who knows what she’ll do to you!
Raya: WHATS SHE GONNA DO? TURN MY ENTIRE LAND TO STONE? OH WAIT. SHE ALREADY DID
Namaari: please keep your voice down! I don’t want her to hurt you!
Raya, sniffling: why not? I had one job! Protect the dragon gem! And what did I do? Not protect the dragon gem! I should have turned to stone like the rest of my people
Namaari, upset: don’t say that about yourself! You weren’t even there! You’re only 12, there wouldn’t have been much you could have done anyways! I don’t want you hurt because…. *blushing slightly* I think you’re really cool, okay? You’re my first real friend
Raya, poking her head out of the blanket pile: r-really?
Namaari, smiling and nodding: yeah, really. I promise, I’ll help you find a way to fix this. You’re not alone, dep la
Raya, blushing: thank you. I really appreciate this. It must be hard lying to your mother
Namaari, looking down and shrugging: yeah well what she did was wrong. Those people shouldn’t have gotten hurt. I need to help fix my mother’s mistakes
Raya, squirming over to one side of the bed: c’mon, we should sleep. If we’re gonna fix this madness we need to be well rested
Namaari, blushing: yeah you’re right. *slides onto the other side of the bed* good night, Raya
Raya, also blushing: night, dep la
*the next morning*
Fang soldier, opening the door: princess Namaari, it’s time- *sees both girls cuddled together on the bed* this is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen so I’m going to ignore the fact that the princess of Heart is hiding away right now
