Soldier Boy didn't love Crimson Countess, despite what he said.

He loved that she would always be there for him, which was why he was so angry she didn't come for him. He loved the idea of her that was obsessed and subservient to him, when the truth is like how Mallory explained it - no one likes him and is really scared of him. Crimson Countess was just another person who told Soldier Boy what he wanted to hear.

And when she stopped doing that, when she didn't rush after him and die trying to save him - proving her love and loyalty to him despite how he would never do the same - he was so angry and, while the love was a twisted, toxic version of it that wasn't real, that betrayal was real and he played that off so well.

In other words, New York City — which in the first pandemic summer had been declared “dead forever” — was back! As long as you had not personally been ejected from your home, you might have even found it inspiring.

There was only one problem: None of it made any sense.

In late 2021 and early 2022, when demand for apartments was supposedly accelerating from trickle to geyser, New York was still besieged with COVID-related troubles. Return-to-office plans had been quashed by the Delta variant, then Omicron. Tourism was way down, and unemployment was twice the national rate. Crime was reportedly surging — people were getting shoved onto subway tracks — and outdoor dining had emboldened rats to live freely and openly among humans. Had all of the people who had presumably moved to escape these very concerns really come flooding back?

With every rise in the city’s median gross rents, my skepticism grew. I had lived happily in New York for more than two decades, through many disasters and rebounds, and I wanted to believe the story of its glorious post-COVID recovery. But why did it seem like all of the people telling it were also trying to lease me overpriced apartments?

I began to pick up faint dispatches from a distant, numbers-based reality, where a more plausible counternarrative was taking shape. “Manhattan Lost 6.9% of Its Population in 2021, the Most of Any Major U.S. County,” said a March 2022 headline. “NYC’s Population Plummeted During Peak COVID —  And It’s Still Likely Shrinking,” said another from a couple months later. According to these stories, New Yorkers hadn’t come flooding back at all. In fact, they were probably still leaking out.

If that was the case, then the city’s rental frenzy defied not just laws of supply and demand but also conservation of mass. All of the people who fled the city over the past three years should have left behind a surplus of empty, habitable apartments. What happened to them? And why is it so difficult and expensive to lease one now?

I would love to see her at a party, concerts or famous festivals with Tom and enjoying it in ways other than what they normally do. But they probably like what they do and obviously if they wanted to go out to more frequented places they would go, there is nothing to stop them. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yea, I mean, I feel like at that time she was just basically doing anything she could to distract herself from her breakup (that's usually what you do when you're rebounding), and good for her if she tried some new stuff!

But yea, Z is just not a "partier", and I think people just need to accept that haha. 😅 Like you said, if they wanted to go out and do certain things in public, then they would have long-since done that by now. But it's obvious they like what they do and they are on the same wavelength. :)

Plus, I'll be honest, when you're SUPER famous (like TZ are), it probably sucks going to major events where lots of masses of people are going to be anyway. Look at how much attention Tom got just going to a Lakers game in LA!!

All of your OCs are competing on a cooking show. Who falls first and who makes it all the way?

Oooh good question!!

Rae: On the one hand, she's lived in a lot of different places and has enjoyed a lot of different cuisine, and has even tried to recreate some of her favorite dishes. On the other hand, she's usually too busy to do a lot of cooking herself, and having eaten a lot of international food is different from being trained in making it. She'll probably make it to the last round, but won't win.

Robin: She's a semidecent cook, and she'll probably make it past the first round since she can make some killer boxty (her favorite comfort food, it's amazing), but she doesn't have enough kitchen experience to think on the fly and come up with so many successful dishes in a row. The second round falls flat for her, and she gets eliminated.

Madison: She loves baking and is quite good at it, but baking and cooking aren't quite the same. She does understand flavor and know her way around the kitchen, but cooking-wise she probably defaults to very simple dishes since she's used to a lot of base-subsistence meals from her time in the woods. The judges would enjoy her dishes, but would feel they aren't sophisticated enough for the competition.

Ophelia: Yeah.... she doesn't cook much - and whatever dishes she could cook in theory would take too long to make, and wouldn't be possible within the time limit. She's not making it very far.

Jasper: Out of everyone, I think they have the best chance of any of my OCs. They can make some really mean Cajun food, and they cook dinner with Kyle just about every night (at least, provided they aren't dead-on-their-feet tired from a nursing shift), so they've got a lot of experience in the kitchen. Honestly, a strong contender to win.

Katherine: Also a strong contender - she doesn't cook particularly fancy meals up in NYC, being a broke college kid and all, but back home in Memphis she loved cooking with her family.

Kestrel: Hm... could go either way. This is a similar story to Rae, really - they've been all around the world and have had a lot of exposure to various cuisines and flavor combos, but they don't have a lot of time to actually experiment with cooking these refined meals themself.

Quinn: Eh... no. She can cook well enough to get by, but she's nowhere near cooking-show level and she knows it. She'll do her best, but she's out in the first round

Eris: Look, it's not that Eris can't cook - you don't survive a thousand years without at least being able to put together your own meals - but in the convenience of the modern world... they really don't have the patience for it. They'll play sous chef for Rick, chopping vegetables and things like that, but they're not the type to actually think up what they want for a meal. They'd give it a strong effort, since they'll never turn down a competition, but their dishes don't really make a lot of sense to the judges.

Nikoletta: In all honesty, I think subsisting off of prison food for 15 years has made her rebound hard once she's out of Belle Reve - she'd be a very exploratory cook and would love trying new recipes, since neither she nor Abner would be able to stand being reminded of prison food once they're free. All this to say... she's probably a top competitor, at least among my other OCs. She knows her way around the kitchen.

Matty played Madison Square Garden 3 months ago, so he was in NYC. He also was on the Johnathon Ross Show in England 2 months ago.// But Anon, Taylor was in LA and then Glendale in tour rehearsals during this time. There is absolutely zero evidence they were in the same city after the January appearance at the 1975 concert. I think people are getting tripped up by what we’ve actually seen versus that obviously false Sun article: there is atm nothing to suggest anything more than a fling/situationship is happening here. People need to get better at understanding the Sun often gets kernels of truth right but the details horribly wrong. As 2 people who were already friends and collaborators and had a history of 10 years, very little needed to transpire between them to get to a fling/situationship happening. Matty clearly is into her and has been and probably took his shot as soon as he heard the news. Not to mention her hooking up with someone else fresh off a break is her usual MO so I don’t get why people are struggling to understand how this could’ve happened? Also, people romanticizing him flying right after his gig to get to her: yeah cause he knew he’d get some (don’t underestimate what men will do for good sex) and once again, he’s been into her for some time and knew he needed to act fast here (he fumbled the bag previously).

The most obvious answer is usually the right one: Taylor’s first weeks on tour and then the switch to The 1 indicate the timing of the split and it being sudden. Obviously there were likely issues brewing for some time but you can’t ignore Joe was with her in LA until his film started and that he liked her pre-tour post and photo dumped himself at her Grammy party with Jack and the cats plus there were sightings of them in LA together through February). You also can’t ignore that it seems obvious something happened to cause her to pull the plug and that something made her friends immediately distance themselves from Joe too. Abi still follows some of the K family and Karlie and yet she immediately unfollowed Joe. I know some like to paint it like Taylor forces her pals to do this. But she clearly doesn’t make them choose based on multiple different connections several friends have to people who are on her shit list. So ask yourself why then did they all unfollow Joe so fast (especially since he’s rarely on SM)? And for those who say, why didn’t her pals know I’d ask have you been in an adult LTR? Issues or not, Taylor clearly believed she and Joe were going to make it (the house, her music, the likely engagement, etc). You don’t sell out your partner or share all the shit even with close friends when you expect to still be in the relationship - but also a legit source (People) indicated that pals did know they had ups and downs. But the biggest indication honestly should be how clearly Taylor is going through it in these past few weeks and even now (see last night’s show). We’ll see where this thing - whatever it is - between her and Matty goes. But with him back on tour shortly and her on tour too (plus everything she’s still dealing with) I’d be surprised if it goes on past May.

One last thing to point out: People is Tree’s go-to. When the Sun broke the TH news she didn’t comment and it played out as it did: a rebound or fling. When the Sun broke the Joe news, People had confirmation of the relationship within a couple hours because it was obviously something real. With this Sun article on Matty, People said nothing all week and then has only noted they were spotted together and the rumors from the Sun since. People would have gotten the confirmation this is a relationship if it actually was that. My guess is that we’ll see this play out like TH a bit and then it’ll fizzle.

born and raised in washington dc. parents emigrated from turkey. father was a diplomat and mother still works as a translator/interpreter 

had a very strict and conservative upbringing. suffered abuse at the hands of a family member and was kept in silence about it

went to nyc for university and her first art project. the first exlorations into her art and ideas began with photography at music festivals, art directing for advertisements and magazines, and music videos

met her first partner and began a relationship with them during this time, even asked them to move back to washington dc with her when her time in nyc came to an end

the relationship always felt as though it were missing something and as though lena kept coming up short. when a new project came up and lena was to relocate for her work (to anchorage) she asked her partner to come with her and proposed. the no on both counts was devastating but she poured her pain into her work. plus it went along with the theme of her life

the move to anchorage was only meant to be temporary but lena ended up in a rebound relationship that fulfilled a void and she ended up staying even after her project was complete. making a home in anchorage and traveling when necessary

upon settling into anchorage, lena opened a book bar called the broken spine and has too much fun running it

as with anything else in her life relating to love, the rebound relationship eventually came to an end. leaving lena to stop making her work about heartbreak and push for something greater

a few of her projects/series have brought her international attention and acclaim. the first being, ‘i could not protect her’, a multimedia work, both her signature cinematic still photography along with a silent film detail her journey though abuse and the unchecked actions by the abuser. the next being her series titled “3ieb!” in arabic / “shame on me!” in english. a series that equally caused an uproar and gave voice to hundreds of thousands of middle eastern women all over the world

recently lena has been dipping her toe into video work once again, beginning to shift away from her decade long photography medium by publishing a book of a compilation of all her work. a little different from the music videos she’d produced in the past and her recent foray into short film, lena is interested in moving forward in long-form video work

the positive shift in her love life, experiencing real love for the first time without the usual toxicity she’d fallen into in the past and finally experiencing healthy love has also made a big difference

I think it's very likely that Rachel introduced them during FW. Since he didn't attend it looks like he was just hanging out with his friends and having fun, Rachel saw him there and maybe they hung out together, he met CSW and they clicked but perhaps it was obvious that he was a rebound for her and he was up to some fun and since they both were in nyc why not, you know. More off because that is what he wanted. There were lots of sightings of him at events where he was really flirty or hitting on someone. My opinion and this is just my opinion, he is a clout chaser. I think he tried to find another higher profile girlfriend, but just could not. So his 'hook-up' is now a more serious girlfriend. At the opening of the Heartifacts exhibit, Chloe meets Daniel, who offers to enhance the exhibit with a film reenactment of a relationship's progression, with Chloe and Daniel as the stars. Their fake dates lead to real feelings, but Daniel doesn't want to be the rebound. Can Chloe make Heartifacts successful, and prove to Daniel her feelings are real?

💜 On the surface, Artifacts of an Ex is a cute friends-to-lovers young adult romance. If you look beyond that, you'll find a story about healing and community through art, letting go of perfectionism, finding your tribe, and recognizing your self-worth. Chloe develops so much as a character, not only as she heals from her heartache, but as she finds a new home for herself in LA. The strongest component of the story is through the art pieces themselves. Each one conveys a different version of love--how we heal from it, how it changes us, how each person we meet and interact with becomes another paint stroke on the canvas that is our story. I also adored the friendships, how the community comes together to help Chloe's grandmother, and all the heartwarming fluff.

🦇 While this is a cute, layered debut novel, the pacing was a little exhausting. Between the fake dates, navigating her heartache, trying to help her grandmother, and curating the exhibit, Chloe stretches herself thin--which stretches the story thin as well. I also wish we learned more about Daniel outside of his passion for filmmaking and history as 'the rebound guy.' There's immediate chemistry between Chloe and Daniel, but Chloe's attraction toward him feels so immediate (thank you, mutual organizational stationery obsessions) that we don't really experience the transition from friends to more. There's a little repetition as well, which further causes the pacing to drag.

❝ You want to control everything. Plan it all out. Love isn't planned. It's messy. It's full of mistakes and stupid things you say. It's dopey as hell. ❞

🦇 Recommended for fans of cute YA romances with (sort of) fake dating! Ideal for fans of Emma Lord and Jenny Han. Get ready for some serious heart eyes.

gonna put all of the story stuff and drawings under the cut because thisll be a very very long post

basically, the ocs name is Rosalind Carr! she/they pronouns. during the events of the game was currently staying with family in the Bright Falls/Watery area

her design isn't really small town looking, but that's because I wanted to give her a very fish out of water city girl feel, since she's originally from NYC, so I went for a lot of modern city fashion, like mesh shirts and such, I wanted to make sure she stuck out as someone who is very much not from the rural PNW

but enough about her and more about her silly little relationship(?) with scratch!casey (and also, actual alex casey)

starting with her relationship with casey, she was kinda like a rebound sort of thing after The Divorce (what can i say, im a slut for divorced men) and obviously because of that it ended poorly. (okay, well, Kind of a rebound, some of it did overlap with the marriage because I'm also a slut for affairs)

but, before it ended, she started staying in BF with some family, which is part of what got casey interested in the murders there, because he was kinda worried about her getting fucking murked

but of course, the break up happens and he cant just back out of the case (and he doesnt even want to, anyway), which creates some VEERY awkward interactions during the events of the game. hes still somewhat interested in her, and shes still quite pissed off at him

then, game shit happens, and scratch possesses casey. and its a bit like

scratch: "eugh, this new body is so clunky and weird. but that doesnt matter, as long as i make this ending happen, it'll be all good."

rosalind: *exists for over .5 seconds, literally just trying to not die, having been roped into all this by sheer circumstance*

scratch: *immediately becomes filled with insatiable lust because now that he occupies caseys body, he can feel every less than convinent urge casey gets (like fucking on the job) amplified tenfold*

basically, though-out the whole deerfest section, you have this poor woman who knows she's forgetting something and KNOWS something is wrong and the whole time there is this fucked up version of her ex trying to get in her pants (and honestly? lowkey succeeding.)

imagine being her, laying in bed next to a fucked up and evil version of her ex boyfriend while he rambles about famous missing author Alan Wake and how they need to "become one"

it's kinda like a, me my boyfriend and my boyfriends giant plushie situation except none of them are together and scratch is just insane
