Skibidi Toilet: A war crime spree (part 1)

I'm going to re-watch Skibidi Toilet and tally which side has actually committed more war crimes! (As per the Geneva Conventions)

Notes:

I will assume that all Alliance and all Skibidis are military personnel. This saves us from debating whether something counts as unjustifiable targeting of civilians - we'll make it easier for ourselves and just assume everyone is soldiers.

I am primarily doing this for entertainment/shitposting purposes, so I will likely not be as diligent in my reasoning as an actual military law student would be. If you think I got something wrong, corrections/comments are welcome!

I will apply the laws as they are right now. Some people reckon Skibidi Toilet takes place in the 80s, so I'm mentioning this to avoid people saying 'ah, but that didn't get added to the Geneva Conventions until 199x'. Don't care + fart.

On with the analysis!

Season 1: episodes 1-5

Episode 1

A skibidi bites a cameraman and kills him. This is a simple in-combat killing; not a war crime. Biting someone could be used as part of torture (war crime), but I'm not convinced that applies here. By skibidi standards, this is a quick clean kill.

Episode 2

This is getting interesting already. Two skibidis execute one of their own kind (who sings 'we ain't here to hurt nobody'). Is this a defecting member of their own faction, or a member of a third faction that has been extinguished by the time of the following episodes?

If they killed one of their own... that probably does count as a war crime. Emphasis mine:

Convention (I) for the Amelioration of the Condition of the Wounded and Sick in Armed Forces in the Field. Geneva, 12 August 1949. Article 3 - Conflicts not of an international character In the case of armed conflict not of an international character occurring in the territory of one of the High Contracting Parties, each Party to the conflict shall be bound to apply, as a minimum, the following provisions: (1) Persons taking no active part in the hostilities, including members of armed forces who have laid down their arms and those placed ' hors de combat ' by sickness, wounds, detention, or any other cause, shall in all circumstances be treated humanely, without any adverse distinction founded on race, colour, religion or faith, sex, birth or wealth, or any other similar criteria. To this end, the following acts are and shall remain prohibited at any time and in any place whatsoever with respect to the above-mentioned persons: (a) violence to life and person, in particular murder of all kinds, mutilation, cruel treatment and torture

Episode 3

Skibidis parade down the street. The biggest one bites the cameraman and kills him. As with episode 1, not a war crime - we've decided that all Alliance are soldiers. However, there is the matter of the Gordon Freeman-alike getting killed. We decided that Skibidi and Alliance forces are all military, but we said nothing about humans.

Even if this human is a civilian, this isn't necessarily a war crime. Killing civilians is not in itself forbidden; the specific targeting of them is. It seems the big skibidi didn't even notice this unlucky individual was there, making this nothing more than regrettable collateral damage.

Episode 4

Skibidis storm a restaurant full of human diners, who are instantly converted into more skibidis. As with previous episodes, a skibidi kills the cameraman.

Forcibly converting humans to skibidis is undoubtedly a war crime. It's possible that that's not what's happening - notice that the humans are already sitting on toilets. Perhaps they were skibidi sleeper agents using human disguises? We still don't know how skibidis are created or where they came from, so such speculations are pointless. We appear to be seeing humans turned into skibidis, so we will assume that is the case.

If these humans are civilians, it's a war crime:

Convention (IV) relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War. Geneva, 12 August 1949. Article 31 - Prohibition of coercion No physical or moral coercion shall be exercised against protected persons, in particular to obtain information from them or from third parties.

If these humans are soldiers (either fighting with the Hardware Alliance or as their own faction), it's a war crime:

Convention (III) relative to the Treatment of Prisoners of War. Geneva, 12 August 1949. Article 14 - Respect for the persons and honour of prisoners Prisoners of war are entitled in all circumstances to respect for their persons and their honour. [...] Prisoners of war shall retain the full civil capacity which they enjoyed at the time of their capture. The Detaining Power may not restrict the exercise, either within or without its own territory, of the rights such capacity confers except in so far as the captivity requires.

You can make your prisoners of war perform labour for you, but you can't force them to fight for you.

Just for interest, the work you can make POWs do:

Convention (III) relative to the Treatment of Prisoners of War. Geneva, 12 August 1949. Article 50 - Authorized work Besides work connected with camp administration, installation or maintenance, prisoners of war may be compelled to do only such work as is included in the following classes: (a) agriculture; (b) industries connected with the production or the extraction of raw materials, and manufacturing industries, with the exception of metallurgical, machinery and chemical industries; public works and building operations which have no military character or purpose; (c) transport and handling of stores which are not military in character or purpose; (d) commercial business, and arts and crafts; (e) domestic service; (f) public utility services having no military character or purpose. Should the above provisions be infringed, prisoners of war shall be allowed to exercise their right of complaint, in conformity with Article 78 .

Episode 5

Several skibidis fly in the sky, and one kills the cameraman. No war crimes here. They appear to be in a civilian-dense area, so war crimes could be about to occur, but we didn't actually see any.

I miss writing and posting fan fiction and every now and then I think about getting back into it. And if you look at my AO3 and stuff, it looks like I quit writing as a hobby a few years ago.

Since 2020 I’ve been working on a few novels, and I had been hoping to publish them. I’m several drafts in and started having a lot of trouble with motivation about 6 months ago though.

Honestly I lost a lot of enthusiasm about publishing anything for real when I found out that as an author I’d have to create and maintain actual social media profiles instead of occasionally shitposting on Tumblr and crawling back into my demon lair for a few months to a year.

Now that Twitter seems to be going belly up faster than the fish in that one viral post I made five years ago, I’m starting to feel more motivated to write again. Because it means I won’t have to have a Twitter.

Yeah I’ll probably have to make some other social media, but with most of the mainstream social media sites plunging deeper and deeper into being shit, maybe I can just have a Live Journal or a MySpace if those are still around.

God how great would it be if we just went back to 2006 style internet. We all just get back on deviantart and make regrettable decisions with our hair and YouTube becomes a cute site for novelty videos again. What is a smartphone.

It’s fucking 4am and I’m exhausted and can’t sleep so don’t even try to decipher this crap.

I just slithered out of bed a few minutes ago and ate some leftover veggie samosas because I ain’t afraid of no heartburn. I’m sitting on my couch hugging a Bidoof plushie and listening to horror stories on YouTube about people nearly being murdered because for some reason that helps me sleep. I’m trying to figure out just how bad of a crush I have on one of my friends and if she felt any of the ambiguous sparks I did while I thawed out some frozen mice and she watched me feed them to my pet snake. I really need to figure out how to tell when people are flirting.

My back hurts and I feel like it’s too late in the night-morning to run into the woods and sing praises to Satan or whatever because that’s just such an awkward thing to do if you can already here the garbage trucks coming around your neighborhood and the local business people are all getting up for work.

Woodland Devil worship is more of a 1am kind of vibe than an almost 5am kind of vibe.

Is this a stream of conscious thought and/or am I way too chock full of sleep deprivation and ADHD?

Anyway, hi Tumblr! I don’t know why you read all that, but if you’ve gotten this far and aren’t going “wtf am I reading”, I think it’s safe to say you need to actually go to bed and get some sleep. I don’t care if it’s 2pm when you’re reading this. If you got this far, your brain is crying and begging you to get at least one night this week of 8 hours because these are not the ramblings of a well rested person.

I was taking the American Board of Family Physicians certifying exam

to become a board-certified family physician (once I complete my residency in two months). I plowed through the questions like a freight train--I've always been an absolute beast when it comes to multiple-choice tests--and the overall progress counter slowly ticked through each of the four 60-question, 95-minutes-allowed blocks.

At one point I glanced up to check on the progress bar. It was at 69%. I nodded, thought to myself, nice, and went back to work.

Why I chose my url: I originally used it as a deviantart handle (still there) because it wasn’t taken and I liked the overall way it sounded, and kept it because it’s rarely taken anywhere. and now it’s been ten years so like it’s stuck at this point.

Average hours of sleep: 7-8 hours usually but my actual sleep schedule skews late. I’ve never been one of those people who can skate by on 5 hours and be functional, if I get less than 6 hours I am absolutely useless and was that way even in high school/college when everyone else was pulling all nighters and shit.

Lucky number: I honestly have never understood lucky numbers, and how much I like any given number is solely dependent on how appealing its colors are according to my synesthesia. if anyone’s wondering, 420 is a hideously tacky blue/orange clusterfuck, but 69 is pleasantly greyscale.

Instruments: I play the flute, in that I own a flute that I was pretty good at playing in high school and can, if I choose, still play notes on it. I also own a melodica but I cannot play it, which to be clear does not stop me from playing it.

What am I wearing: pajama pants and a sith cloak. which sounds like a joke but I do actually own a set of sith robes and the cloak happens to be warm and very comfortable so I just kinda. wear it around the house sometimes in the winter.

Dream job: ornamental lighthouse hermit who may or may not be a wizard.

more realistically though I’m hoping to go into sfx makeup and cosmetology (I was like a week away from getting my license when the apocalypse hit)

Dream trip: I’d love to visit australia and new zealand, would also very much like to go back to scotland and possibly just not leave scotland.

Last book read: rereading The Robots of Dawn by Isaac Asimov, which is a terrible book that I nonetheless subject myself to periodically because I like all the books around it a lot. I need to start on Robots and Empire but shit’s been going down recently so I haven’t been reading much.

Top three fictional universes I’d like to live in:  

okay LIVE IN is a very different question from “universes I think are neat” because like. I love the whole thing firefly has going on but I wouldn’t survive it for more than five minutes. so with that in mind:

1. middle earth but like, the shire during the third age specifically.

2. I think I would enjoy being a legend of zelda npc. I could just be a weird little potion seller who lives in a tree or something. or maybe an inexplicably sexy fish man. or better yet, the inexplicably sexy fish man’s husband, who sells potions. yeah I’ve got my fictional life here completely figured out now, this is good. I would also own an extremely chonky horse.

3. one of the ones I made up, specifically the one that involves a lot of gryphons and interdimensional bullshit. more specifically the origin universe of said gryphons, which exists at the heart of an extremely complicated multiverse that includes both earth and at least one fantasy world but is part of neither. anyway it’s a nice place.

Its important (well I mean I guess not really but shh go with it) to be aware that Marvel and DC are both equally ridiculous, but ridiculous in different ways.

Like, sometimes I just reflect on the fact that Bane is supposed to be this gargantuan nightmare dude in DC lore, but according-to-official-stats-that-dont-actually-matter-look-this-is-just-a-shitpost-anyway-shhh, like, Bane according to DC is 6′8″.

And see this is just funny to me because due to Regrettable Liefeld Influence throughout the 90s, aka the Age of Trading Cards and thus most “Official Superhero Stats,” there’s like....a dozen X-Men who are all over seven feet and that’s just the X-books alone.

Anyway, the point of this post is absolutely NOT me just imagining a Marvel/DC crossover where Bane attempts a power play in Marvel’s New York, drawing upon his Fearsome Appearance to cow the locals, and then the X-Men show up and Shatterstar, Warpath, Colossus, Juggernaut, Cable and multiple others just start cooing about how adorable the little guy is being.

Favorite band/artist: What a loaded questions! I don’t exactly have a favorite artist, seeing as I’ve been listening to the soundtrack from a show recently. My favorite genre is probably alternative rock though ^^ I listen to Red vs Blue’s soundtrack a lot, and my favorite piece is a toss up between “Pelican Cruise/Infiltration”, “Sharkface”, “Mental Meta Metal”, and “Round One/Bullfight”.

However I also listen to musical soundtracks and currently my favorites are “Into the Woods”, “Falsettos”, sort of “Book of Mormon”, and undeniably, the best musical to ever exist, “It’s Karate, Kid!” I really like Into the Woods but there’s about 10 different people singing at the same time so. my singalongs are terrible.

If you’re talking about actual bands and artists, then: MCR(5th grade emo phase who? They’re good), P!ATD(aw man yey), and all the artists in the RVB soundtrack!

Last movie watched: Heathers! I downloaded it on Netflix to watch during a roadtrip. I will have to say my favorite movie is Uno: The Movie.

Last TV show watched: Queer Eye! Red vs Blue! Maybe Hetalia or Shoujo Cosette, if anime counts.

What do I post: Announcements about Love Nikki interspersed with fanart and oftentimes memes and shitposts. However, I want to start being more active and creating more of my own content, like fanart of fanfics!

Well.. this honestly came a lot faster than I thought it would. I’m really surprised if I’m going to say the truth, my writing is the worst in my opinion, and I cannot stress enough how anxious I am to get every little reply out. Technically, I made this at 204 followers, but hey, it’ll be alright. 

I’m very grateful to you guys, because.. well, I’ve literally only been here for about a month, and I’ve got this many people who are okay with writing w/ me (extra note: I’ve never roleplayed on Tumblr before and it’s so weird). It’s such an honor to be able to have this much appreciation, even if I haven’t interacted with you, I still am very happy to have you here. I think I have mentioned this before, but I have troubles even talking to people, let alone trying to roleplay with them, and this has just been a pleasurable experience. You’re all so nice.. and I’m just some disgusting and unlikable kid who’s typing out shit that people probably don’t even give a shit about. I took awhile to fully type this all out, so that’s why activity is trash. Without further ado.. here we go.

@miishou CARA, you make me gayer for Amami every little interaction we have, and I’m loving it. Jeez, you were around for so long, I don’t know how you even tolerate my dumb shit. Regardless, I’m glad we finally started talking, because I am so happy when I talk with you. Your writing just makes me so jealous but in love at the same time, and I would interact with you until I was dead, because you’re just.. insert ok hand emoji. Also, just a quick thanks for the shit you put up with me, you know what I’m talking about. The moist ass incident, spaghoots, my random outbursts of Ouma harassing Amami for various reasons, and my forgetfulness.
