i think i already posted abt this but the thing is that at the very start of repo!tgo during the comic-style intro, when were introduced to the concept of repomen, there's this shot of multiple repomen all with unique and strangely designed masks- in fact nathan is like the most boring one, costume one. and it makes me so so mad that repo! isn't a comic series. do you know what id do for a series of comics set in that universe? doesn't even have to follow those other repomen. i think about it constantly

To give a quick description of what repo the genetic opera is about, it's a dystopian future where the is an organ failure epidemic, a company named genco rises up. Providing organs at expensive prices. Organs are also treated as cosmetics and accessories by society, being able to get designer organs. People who fail to pay their debts on time, get their organs repossessed by Repomen. That's about what I remember anyways!
.... oh wow that was darker than I thought.

Dutch Duo TankZilla Turn Loose New Banger "Mutant Freak"
  ~Doomed & Stoned Debuts~
We're rolling out a solid stomper this midweek, as Eindoven lightning rod TANKZILLA issue the third single from their forthcoming self-titled debut on Heavy Psych Sounds.
According to the band:
"Mutant Freak" is an ode to the misfits, the odd and the somewhat crazy people. Without them life would be less interesting, they give color to the planet. We say "give it up, get down, get ready for the underdog" -- the Mutant Freaks.
The music video itself is something of a freak of nature (amazingly created entirely on a Samsung Galaxy S20 phone), with various animations that made me think in equal parts of Garbage Pail Kids, Mystery Men, and The Suicide Squad. The uncanny valley in full effect, the music matches with frenetic energy, buzzsaw riffing, and ample loads of fuzz.
With hot licks and thick riffs, TankZilla is a romping, stomping good time. The album drops May 19th (pre-order). In the meanwhile, you can soak in the new music video right here.

SOME BUZZ
Satan fucked a Panzer and the offshoot is TankZilla. Or so it seems. Well, this is what really happened in the Eindhoven grit: after Peter Pan Speedrock went tits up, singer and guitar player Peter van Elderen hooked up with former Wolfskop drummer Marcin Hurkmans.
As soon as these music junkies started jamming they got on like a house on fire. It felt as if their motor skills were connected like a motherfucker with a brother from another mother. This two-headed creature wrecks like a tank and packs Godzilla-sized riffs and beats. In the same vein as Repomen, Peter's short-lived but heavier-than-thou Roadburn alumni, the tarmac grooves are scorching. TankZilla goes full-tilt boogie.
TANKZILLA - TankZilla by HEAVY PSYCH SOUNDS Records
Says the band:
"As we write this, it's hard to realize the long road we’ve traveled to get to this debut full-length. We started rehearsals 5 years ago with absolutely no ambitions. We were without bands at the time, both cranking amps and slaying drums at the local rehearsal space, so it felt only natural to jam together.
"Nobody could have guessed what was about to happen, ‘cause after we decided to join forces, all hell broke loose. People were storming the rehearsal room triggered by the massive wall of sound and were shocked to discover it was just the two of us who were responsible.
"While shows were growing at a fast rate, we started finetuning the ’TankZilla sound’. It's still hard to describe, but the term ‘stoner blues swamp boogie’ got most of it covered.
"Not long after, we were invited to perform at the almighty Roadburn festival where we released our first 7-inch. Fast forwarding through the pandemic, we finished writing a dozen songs, eleven of which we captured on our first ‘serious’ recording.
"And here you have it. Recorded in Belgium, no Dutch beers involved, no fillers, no fancy stuff. Just the result of true & pure rock’n’roll style recording sessions. We are very proud to present to you our first full-length. Put it on and crank the shit up ‘cause this one goes to eleven!"

in a world devastated by an epidemic of organ failures,  geneco presents itself as a savior,  perfecting lab-grown organs & monopolizing the newly emerging transplant market.  its share price skyrockets & the rich get richer ⸻ but if you can’t afford one of the company’s transplants,  never fear: geneco has payment plans,  allowing all people a chance at life.
peaking at the fine print? if a customer falls behind on their payments, geneco retains the right to repossess its property and is not responsible for any subsequent medical issues following the removal of the organ.
by the time harleen quinzel is seven,  nick quinzel has ruined the family’s credit with get rich quick after get rich quick scheme.  when sharon quinzel’s heart starts to give out,  the marks on their credit report prevent her from obtaining a loan from geneco. without the loan,  a new heart is prohibitively expensive, and she dies a month after her application is rejected.
seven years later,  nick’s alcoholism has led to liver failure. geneco gives him six months,  if he doesn’t replace it.  somehow,  he gets approved for a payment plan,  and one easy surgery later,  nick’s got a second chance at life.  he wastes it -- two years later,  he bleeds out on the street outside of the quinzel apartment,  liver having been repossessed.  harleen,  having seen the repo man approach, didn’t warn her father.  as much as she hates geneco and everything they stand for,  nick quinzel deserved to die.
geneco bought out every medical school in america,  congress and the courts unwilling to act to stop them given the amount of geneco money lining their pockets.  harleen has no choice but to apply to one of these new training facilities.  six years later,  she is licensed as a surgeon and begins to practice.  she works for geneco because everybody works for geneco -- independent physicians and competitor hospitals are relics of a dead world.
* this is where harley meets @indeath ! she becomes nour’s primary surgeon and this means that they become her Primary Friend.
by day,  harleen performs organ transplants.  by night,  she uses what little access she has to geneco’s data to figure out how they keep such close tabs on their organs.  she’s determined to find a way to stop the repossession process,  though she is in far over her head.  when a certain group of masked vigilantes begin to interfere with geneco’s repomen,  harleen is finally able to take a step back and turn to a problem that she actually can hope to solve.
geneco has revolutionized the surgical process not only with artificial organs, but with zydrate,  an extremely effective painkiller that negates almost all of the negative side-effects of surgery. zydrate is also incredibly addictive,  and is a way to keep geneco’s richest clientele coming back for more & more cosmetic surgeries.  a black market counterpart to the drug exists,  extracted from dead bodies.  harleen runs an underground lab attempting to find an alternative to the drug.
it’s around this time that harleen gets involved with king clown or whatever his name is -- a prominent investor in geneco who also has somehow cornered the underground zydrate market ? i don’t know, blue hasn’t watched this movie so i couldn’t ask her to help me 🥴  joker sucks,  gets her addicted to z,  encourages / forces some plastic surgery to get her skin to that pale white . . . harley’s lab gets outed? she ends up demoted to a gentern but forced to be a repoman at night? i was doing so well until here y’all -- but we all know how this story goes.
ps i also have a variation of this verse with @harrleen where they are twins but that verse probably involves an entirely different backstory - who is to say 😌

New Sims!
Today I made some new Sims for Flat and Flo to be friends with!
Tumblr media
When I last left Flat and Flo, they had bills to pay. The bills were almost 900 Simoleons, and they barely had 400. I spent my time efficiently by having Flo and Flat meet their new neighbors, Nadine and Aubrey. Nadine and Aubrey are partners, (as evidenced by the picture), and Nadine is a vampire, and Aubrey is an alien. They're very cute, in my opinion. Aubrey is also the first alien I've ever made, and I think they turned out pretty well. This is their human disguise:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Apparently when Flat grew up, he got the Polite trait, so through the "Polite introduction", he was able to become friends with Nadine and Aubrey pretty quickly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Flo was also able to become friends with them (which was pretty good for her aspiration), and then I sent them back home to find out that their water had been shut down, along with their power.
Tumblr media
I didn't want the repomen to show up so I hastily put them both in careers, and after two days of work, they were able to pay for the bills (just barely). If only it worked like that in real life.
They also managed to get promotions, which really helped, but I doubt I'll have them keep their jobs. I need to have enough money to have them throw parties (100 bucks a pop, for some reason), but aside from that, there's not much reason for it. Usually when I have my Sims both have jobs, their lives get incredibly formulaic and boring, and I'm trying to avoid that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I made one other household of Sims for Flo and Flat to get to know, so I'll have them meet tomorrow. Hopefully I'll be able to throw a party or two before I have them start the rest of their lives (which will still have parties, but a few other things will be going on).

I'm thinking about making a video essay on this topic already - or something similar to it - but here's my rewrite of the Starfield factions so that they're less Fucking Dogshit (no spoilers until the big red spoilers tag)
The main foundational crux of the game is the United Colonies vs the Freestar Collective, essentially the idea of Big Government vs Small Government. Within UC systems, the UC is pervasive and present at all levels of security and government, while in Freestar space, you've got planets like Neon that have self-governing security forces while the Rangers only actually go after like, interplanetary criminals and stuff that affects the whole of Freestar space.
And if that's the way you want to play it, fine, but I feel like this is fiction, and worse, this is SCI FI, so these tropes should be MORE polarizing and different.
The United Colonies should be a fascist near-police state. The ever-present panopticon argument that is "should we sacrifice freedom for safety". HEAVY citizenship laws, even more focus on what is essentially the drafting into Sysdef they do to gain legal citizenship. Slates could be designed by Sysdef - or maybe run their updates and core processes through the MAST on New Atlantis - so nearly all communications within UC space (and, hell, even from outside UC space) is monitored by the government.
The Well on New Atlantis should be worse. Treatment of their citizens should be noticeably worse, raids into the Well to sniff out outliers and insurgents. It could lead to a fun hard leftist group in the Well that's like, kind of a parody of leftist infighting, you've got the people fighting to demolish the UC and install something more just and citizen-focused in its place rather than security-focused, and then you've got the people who think we need to burn it all down and get rid of any and all governmental structures, and having them tear at each others throats until the Spacefarer comes along and gives their two cents.
The Freestar Collective, on the other hand, would be closer to a Southern American's dream. This idea of manifest destiny made absolute and concrete, this idea of carving out a place for yourself and Standing Your Ground. I like the idea of Freestar citizens being less critical of their government than the UC, but more critical about the fact that they just... don't show up as much. Hell, maybe certain sectors are just being paid off by gangs. Taking that idea of "we don't interfere in local affairs" and conflating it to a large degree, the idea that they don't protect anything that isn't a Freestar interest.
Maybe in direct opposition to that is a force of like... legitimate bounty hunters. A sort of rising vigilante force that is slowly gaining favor amongst the people for coming to help far before the Ranger kicks their stupid asses into gear. A grinding conflict between the two, where the Rangers are trying to put bounties up on the hunters because they're making the Rangers look bad and helping to add to anti-Freestar sentiment, and they're worried that their hold on the people of the Collective will loosen if they don't rely on them for their security.
The League of Independent Settlers could've been something more than a bullshit Minuteman side-quest provider too. One of the things I read on the wiki described them as a "service provider" and I think that's a fascinating read on them, comparing them to the modern day service provider. This idea of like, investing in settlements to eventually make back their profit, requiring a fee and upkeep instead of an upfront cost for the resources required to kick it in the black.
Maybe they've got repomen who go out and collect, should the settlements they fund not return to them. It could lead to more interesting side quests: finding settlements torn apart by Terrormorphs, facing the barrel of a gun by a farmer whose land isn't turning the profit they promised due to shoddy LIST tech, ending up in land disputes between several colonists because LIST overlapped the properties on the demarcation, etc etc etc. It could've been a neat bounty system and a possible moral quandary later on as well.
The Va'ruun are, obviously, underutilized. My assumption is that Shattered Stars (the first Starfield DLC) is going to be about them, but I know what going into a Bethesda game with assumptions is like. Even if that was the case, they could have seeded the Va'ruun a bit more heavily through the main game. Va'ruun outposts (abandoned or not), space stations, more defectors like Andreja.
I think that with the UC and Freestar being reflections of America's current (broken) political climate, the Va'ruun would provide a much needed reflection of its (broken) religious climate. This idea of an evangelical force that literally believes in a space worm who will kill all life eventually is very close the Christian version of Hell. "Don't commit sins or the Great Serpent will devour you". It could provide interesting context for both the Enlightened and the Universals - the Enlightened could be initially founded by disenfranchised Va'ruun and the Universals could be moving toward the same "God" that the Va'ruun worship, albeit not in a way either side understands.
I think that people should've been more disenfranchised about the Colony War. I think that it should've sparked a lot of revolution and a lot of disharmony amongst the people. The idea that out of the HUNDRED star systems, each government can only possess 3 is... insanity. And not only that, but the entire war and thousands of lives lost hinging on a LAND DISPUTE between two sides of the same fascist government is insane. I'm amazed more people aren't up in arms about it. (Also, I haven't checked, is there not even a fucking colony in Vesta?? Are you telling me that the Collective didn't continue working there anyway? Nobody from LIST set up there? That's fucking insane to me)
Anyway SPOILERS below
The last faction is obviously the Starborn, and while I do like their individualistic nature, I think that it would make more sense - especially as time went on - if the Emissary and Hunter had more Starborn falling in under their wing. The Emissary being a member of Constellation means that they're always going to be a good person and some Starborn have to fall under that category, and the Hunter seems like he genuinely wants to side with you and cares about your well-being when you're traveling with him (albeit in a jaded way) and also he was a priest, for god's sake, people aren't FLOCKING to hear what he has to say about Unity?
I personally would have each loop grow their status. The Emissary and Hunter are, initially, alone in the universe. Just like you. But as time goes on, as they iterate over and over, they find like-minded individuals. Some Starborn who are also on their 6th or 7th loop see them and say "Fuck it, why not team up? It's easier together and I vibe with what you want." By the Spacefarer's 5th loop the Emissary/Hunter have fully staffed ships. By the 7th they've got a small flotilla.
By the 10th loop, they'd truly be political powers in their own right. Existing on the far reaches of space, ready to wage a war against one another for control over the Unity. THAT would be a worthy way to play them.
