The Kat-aang kissing scene at the end of A:tLA was my least favorite scene, but Aang flying away from the GAang in the Sozen's Comet is the most disappointing one. That was supposed to be Part 1 of Aang's character's finale (the fight with Ozai would have been Part 2) and the writers flubbed it.
The scenario parallels him leaving the Southern Air Temple before the show starts.
He was at the air temple (an idyllic, innocent home), the time came for him to leave home and face other aspects of the world but that necessitated leaving behind Gyatsu, the man he loved the most and a parental figure. He's being asked to sacrifice too much for something he never wanted in the first place. He can't handle the pressure so he runs away, leaving behind Gyatsu. Maybe he wanted to run away for good, or maybe he needed to clear his head to come back, but he was never allowed to choose because there is a massive storm and he only survives because of spiritual intervention. When he wakes up after 100 years, his destiny is clear but his survival has come at a clear cost: Gyatsu is gone, and so are the Air Nomads.
And here's what happens before Aang runs away in the last few episodes:
He's at his home on an Eden-like island, the time came for him to confront the Fire Lord and that means killing Ozai. This is against his beliefs and would mean a departure from the culture and people he cherished. It's too much, he didn't even want to fight that battle, he wanted to lay low and keep training in this paradise. He can't handle the pressure so he runs away, leaving behind the people he loves the most, including Katara who is also a maternal figure in his life (they literally recreated La Pieta in Ba Sing Se). He is now in the middle of another sea, but unlike 100 years ago the water is warm and there is no physical storm forcing him there. This is a spiritual location and he talks to past Avatars. When he leaves his destiny is clear.
There's just one thing missing from the story this time around and it's the sacrifice.
They set one up in the form of letting go of his attachment to Katara. He did that in Ba Sing Se and still died, so when he returns he doubles down on his attachment to her to the detriment of her and their relationship.
Katara was an idea to him, she represented all of his worldly attachments. He had to let her go for his own good, but things didn't work out the way he wanted and he was free floating. He could hold on to his attachment to her and leave behind his Avatar duties (which he tried to do) or let her go for good.
When Aang leaves, Katara is the last person to try to get him to stay. This should be a significant moment, but the show just brushes by it. The audience should note how she is angry at him and showing that anger to him, which is not what she has done in the past when he runs away. Something is different between them. Their relationship is not the way it was before and it will never be that way again. He already lost her, he just needs to accept it.
This could have been very powerful moment. This should have been a powerful moment and the show should have built off of that emotionally.
Leaving behind Katara (again) should have been on the forefront of his mind. There should have been clear parallels to Ba Sing Se. And then it should have become obvious that his (romantic) relationship with her was already dead. She rejected him in EIP, he pushed her too far and now they're fighting again.
He should look at that and realize that and thought of what other ideas he is holding to an impossible, unrealistic standard. And, just like he is still able to be friends with Katara even though the idealized version of her no longer exists in his eyes (or rather, it shouldn't have after EIP), he should have realized that some of his beliefs about the Air Nomads are the same way. He had unrealistic ideas of what it meant to be an Air Nomad that he learned during a time of peace. He can still be an Air Nomad, even if he doesn't follow those beliefs to the law (and have Yangchen tell him that!).
Make him have to leave behind Katara like he had to leave behind Gyatsu and that same idea. It's hard, it's painful, but it is necessary to fulfill his destiny.
He literally does not need to kill Ozai. Personally, I like the idea of taking his aversion to violence that we see at the start of the series and turning it up to 10 after he wakes up at the start of the season. He's not scared to fight Ozai during the Day of Black Sun because he might not be prepared, he's scared to fight. Bring back his fear of confrontation from the start of the show! Killing is just the icing on top of this terrifying cake. His big "prove himself" moment should be showing up to fight in the first place! (It also makes him being totally ok with his friends killing other people seem a lot less hypocritical).
Idk that's just my idea, but there are so many other options that can carry the narrative full circle.
But the writers went the lion turtle route instead.

Cracks knuckles. Okay. After reading this analysis (https://www.tumblr .com/flaetsbnort/709837976226660352/its-past-midnight-of-the-monday-of-the-carnaval), I have come to two conclusions: 1) it is in line with most of my thoughts regarding the two proposals, and 2) the "OG Bumaro was a scumbag from the very beginning and he took advantage of the fallen Mekhane and threw her into a ditch when he no longer could leech off her" angle is CRAZY and I can't believe I haven't connected the dots
Now, if you accept this "the OG Bumaro was a scumbag" theory, which I do, there's one sore thumb sticking out of the equation: Hedara. What was up with her? Preserver responded that she and OG Bumaro loved each other, but knowing the angle we're going by, that was most likely not the case. Or even if it was, there was definitely more than what meets the eye. So, here is my theory/conjecture for what happened to Hedara:
She found Mekhane together with Bumaro and she had her vision restored and given a pair of wings (this info is canon), for which she was grateful
With time, seeing how Bumaro started to go crazy with power, she confronted him. She didn't really like that they were going to be rulers now - the simple life of a shepherd appealed to her more
Additionally, she may have eventually realized that Bumaro was leeching off Mekhane without ever intending to give anything in return, which also was a reason behind the confrontation
Bumaro, of course, didn't want to abandon the power given to him (and didn't really feel like giving merit to his wife's concerns because misogynists don't do that), so the two ended up getting into an altercation
This altercation resulted in Bumaro using his mind control and putting Hedara in her place (parallels between Robert and Hedvig)
From here on, everything lines up with Preserver's description of her
Additionally, if we want to add more parallels to Bumaro|Hedara and Robert|Hedvig, we can even consider an angle where they didn't start out as husband and wife. Maybe they were two unconnected shepherds who were in the same place, at the same time, when they happened upon Mekhane.
There's a lot to consider and you can really let your mind wander if you think about it a little. That's why I love Gold Proposal - there's a fine balance between the info that wasn't revealed and the info that was, so based on what's known to us, we can let our imagination run wild and fill in the gaps ourselves.
PS: another reason why I really like the "the OG Bumaro was a scumbag" theory is because it just makes Amoni-Ram more interesting. The city almost sounds too perfect to be true. Of course it does. Technological advancements beyond comprehension, augmentations to your heart's content, peace, harmony - sounds like a dream, doesn't it? Too bad this paradise has a rotten core, too bad it was built upon lies, deception and taking advantage of the trust of a literal deity. It's crazy. My head's spinning
PPS: I would have used Discord for this but unfortunately as you can see this ended up being a wall of text
It was never really an angle I bothered delving into because I decided the modern-day story with Robert and Heddy took narrative priority, but you're definitely right in that whatever was going on with Bumaro and Hedara was probably not on the up-and-up. I think in some abandoned story notes somewhere I had written a scene where Robert uses the Throne and has a vision of Bumaro strangling Hedara after she tried breaking away from him with a handful of ideologically-breakaway Mekhanites (kind of meant to allude to the sectarian split in the original GoI). Aram, being Aram, lies about this to Heddy, further hammering in the parallel between them. Unfortunately the article was already getting inflated so I killed that but you're pretty on the money with regards to Hedara being a more... honest counterbalance to her husband.
Poor Mekhane, though. I'm sure someone will dig her up again eventually.

Martin x Hero of Kvatch Headcanons and Stuff (feat. Avarenya)
Ship name: Martenya
Avarenya does not shut up. She grew up being told to be quiet ("A lady is seen, not heard"), and that habit kicked it when she ran away to the Imperial City. So now she thinks out loud more than Ed Sheeran! She gets herself into a lot of otherwise perfectly avoidable situations this way. Including going to jail and meeting the old Emperor. Just another Fredas night.
(Don't think I'm recounting the main quest. This is just as random as Avy's thought patterns)
Martin is Avy's impulse control. Which . . . doesn't always work since he's constantly asking her to go do very high-risk (for impulsiveness) things.
They constantly reference The Vacation to each other. The Vacation is a hypothetical holiday they'll take to Valenwood when the Oblivion Crisis is over. Avarenya wants locally sourced tropical fruit, Martin has never been to the beach in his freaking life, and they both need a nap.
Their conversations about The Vacation are typically nonverbal with many hand movements and occasional random statements. At this point Jauffre is too afraid to question them, concerned both the Emperor and and Hero of Kvatch have been touched by Sheogorath
nota bene: Avarenya does not mantle Sheogorath. Why? She has an older brother, Oromis, who's very important in the Mages Guild. Very serious know-it-all stuff. While his only sister is playing warfare with one Daedric Prince, he gets sent to investigate the one Oblivion Gate that doesn't look like any of the others and — oops, he's Sheogorath now. Ouch.
Sheo!Oromis isn't going to touch his sister (unless it's to pet that overexcitable brain of hers like a puppy) but he'd totally yeet Martin off the Hill of Suicides.
Martenya have no idea that freaking Sheogorath is sometimes stalking them.
But that's pretty heavy actually so let's put it back in the drawer and ignore it.
Avarenya is taller than Martin. Noticably. By like five inches. Ironically, at 6'3", Avy is considered below average height for the Altmeri aristocracy!
After retrieving the Sanguine Rose for Martin to use for the portal to Paradise, Avarenya invested in what's called the Sanguine Roast. She landblasts that sucker. Unfortunately, it has not dissuaded the Prince of Sex and Drums and Rock-'n'-roll from wanting in her tight leather pants.
Martin isn't comfortable sending Avy into constant danger, but he can't help but love it everytime she leaves. Leather pants, y'all.
Any bread these wackos touched turns into cornbread from the amount of corny energy they give off. They're radioactive with it.
Martin only calls Avy by her full name when it's serious. Notable occurrences include: Miscarcand, the Great Gate, Paradise, and the Temple of the One. Amung others.
. . . or, "Five Times He Called Her By Her Name, and One Time He Didn't Have To"
I cannot stress enough that Avy can and will just jump (stumble, slip, slide, meander) into a situation, while Martin's back there telling her "wait, no, don't do that" because that's how she ended up in the middle of a bloody sacrifice party with the Dagon cultists. Please.
Martin is the sun. Avy is literal sunshine. 🥺☀️ S'like the nicer version of the fingers and talons of the Black Hand.
Avy will make friends with anyone, if she can. But Farwil Indarys and that little Bosmer guy from the Arena try her patience. She is actually legit friends with Glarthir though.
. . . she does feel intimidated by Countess Carvain. Which makes . . . no sense because the Countess has always been polite, if not nice, to Avarenya AND she agrees to Martin's plan, so Avy doesn't know what's up there.
Oh Avy, so sweet but so internally paranoid from her upbringing, her subconscious convincing her that MartinxNarina is somehow endgame while her waking mind has no freaking clue! 😆
Avarenya/Martin/Narina political love triangle anyone?
Martin likes tea a lot, but Avy keeps bringing him imported coffee beans everytime she returns from southern Cyrodiil. He may have an addiction now.
Avarenya and Martin actually met once in Skingrad when they were kids. Martin was ten, Avy was nineteen (which is basically still a kid to Altmer). She got lost while her father was visiting his older brother during a summer festival. Little Marty and Avy ended up sharing watermelon taffy and unleashing a pen of sheep onto unsuspecting bystanders. It was lit. 😎
Avarenya has had to drag Martin to bed and tuck him in several times. She's only boinked his head less than half that number!
Growing up in a tropical environment, Avy gets cold very easily. Martin will go out of his way to get her a blanket when she comes in shivering from her latest quest.
In a modern AU, they'd totally have a meet cute/coffee shop story: Martin is a tired counselor burnt out on the wrong in humanity, Avy's a tired grad student burnt out on making coffee, and . . . Oh wait, it's a little depressing now. Hurt/comfort, anyone?
When they first kiss, they're on the battlements. Nearing midnight, both moons are waning and the shadows are heavy. They're cold by themselves and the air around them is colder still, but together, Martin and Avarenya are warm. Burning, like dragonfire.
Do I indulge in the overused trope of Skyrim's Last Dragonborn being descended from Martin? Uh, yeah! I like that trope. And anyway, I was thirteen when I made Leara Rose-blade . . . which is why she's Martenya's granddaughter when she should've been their great granddaughter. #writerproblems
It didn't take long for Martin to warm up to Avy after leaving Kvatch. She's a friendly sunshine personality and did her best to help him through the looming existential crisis of being the heir. She also shared her sweetrolls with him this one time.
Avarenya would totally be behind a whole Wandavision AU where she brings back Martin and they live in a magic fairy tale village bubble with mindless yesmen and their twin children. Baurus would definitely be Monica. Just picture it!
I love Martenya AUs, okay?

Shaman King AU. After Hao became a Shaman King and everyone convinced him not to commit a genocide he thought "Hey, I have 500 years to be a King. Why hurry? How about this, I will test humanity. I will give them tools to fix all problems that they caused on Earth. If they destroy everything, I will just create the shaman paradise I dreamed of. But if they pass, I will help them fix Earth." So, Hao gave them quirks. After 200 years, surprisingly, they didn't destroy everything. The planet began to recover. After quirk wars the human population has dropped to 1 billion. Heroes used their quirks to get rid of garbage islands. With a bit of help from the shaman king, the current carried trash out of the oceans. By studying quirks new clean energy sources have been developed.
Izuku Midoriya is 8 and he was woken up by some incorporeal Samurai cosplayer. He said that he is his family's Guardian Ghost that served Asakura family for 7 generations and now serves Izuku as the last from his clan. After talking to his mother, she confessed that she knew that Izuku likely will be a Shaman, because all shamans are quirkless. While his father was a descendant from the famous Asakura clan, she is a descendant of the Dittle family. Inko wanted to hidden his gift from himself, because a shaman gets stronger after death experience. She wanted Izuku to find another dream than to be a hero, because his training would have to be hellish (likely literally). Heartbroken, izuku runs away from home, and Amidamaru leads him to his many times great grandmother Anna (who is not allowed to die, shaman king's order, Hao has self preservation thank you very much) so he could be trained as a Shaman and heir of Asakura clan.
Izuku is 12 and he and he finishes his morning jog of 5 km. When he returns home his grandma Anna tells him to change into formal clothes, because today he will meet his future wife. "OkaWHAAAAAT?!!" Grandma says that arranged marriages are Asakura's tradition and then asks Izuku if he doubts her choice for him [treat level cosmic, leave the planet]. They go to the airport and meet there a very beautiful American blond girl. "Hello, my name is Melissa, it's nice to meet you."
"I still don't like it." Said the brown-haired man standing nearby. "Let me know if either of them will complain about it" eye rolled Anna. "It should have been their decision, not something imposed on them" said David. "... They will need each other. They are a good match" "They are kids. They are not formed enough to be 'a good match'". "It will be easier to get used to each other." "... Why her? Our family is not that powerful. Surely you could find someone else." "Because only she could give him home. My grandson sometimes so much remind me of my late husband. He was a rock. No matter what happened I-we could rely on him. If someone was in trouble, there was no wall that would stop him. But they are also different. Yoh was lazy. So it was my job to make him move to do anything. That is how we worked. Izuku is different, for all years that he lived with me he never once complained or tried to get away from training. Sometimes I had to stop him to take a break. And he is reckless too, his own well-being has no meaning for him. That is not something I can't fix or scare out of him. The only solution is to give him a home he would want to return to. To make him promise to return to someone. To the person, who would support him on his way to become a hero."

Paradise (tlod) - Back in Paradise - Part I
Paradise - The Lady of Darkness (tlod) is a connected story. The correct order is in the masterlist in my pinned post
Darkness had fallen outside Belli's window. She sat on the windowsill and stared into the night. When she and Orania had returned home exactly one year ago, they had never wanted to go back. The heartless eyes of Draragon and the fear of death had been too terrible. The night was darker than usual. The seemingly eternal black came from the sky. As if it came from another galaxy. What was she imagining? Did she want to go back? No! She never wanted to go back to this strange world! A flash of lightning lit up the sky. Belli almost fell off the window sill in shock. The light had illuminated the night for a second. There was thunder. The first raindrops tapped on the pane like fingers trying to penetrate her heart. She had been haunted by a strange feeling for far too long. Was it perhaps because of her father? Ever since she and Orania had been back in their world, he had been strange. Almost malicious. Stricter. Was it perhaps because they had simply disappeared? Neither Orania nor she knew how long they had been gone. Another flash of lightning lit up the night. It thundered again. The rain increased. A figure ran down the street and disappeared into a house. It was Caty. One of Belli's friends. The light came on in Caty's room. Didn't she want to spend the night at Aimée's? Aimée, her brothers Bodo and Bryan and her sisters Blanka and Breanna were all idiots. Bodo and Bryan were always making stupid comments, Blanka and Breanna were bitches and Aimée tried to come between Belli and Caty's friendship. Aimée also came between Anna Mathilda and Belli. Anna Mathilda had been Belli's best friend until she joined Aimée's clique. Until. That word. It literally cried out for change. And Belli's whole life had changed. In one fell swoop, everything was different. Why did she feel like that? The problems in her world seemed tiny compared to those in the other. She could lead a problem-free, happy life. She could be popular at school. She could, she could, she could. But did she? No. She was unhappy, unimaginative and uncool. Wasn't happiness possible without problems? Were they the meaning of life? Were they what you lived for? No. Problems were problems! Nothing more! But then what made her so unhappy? And why were there always questions and no answers? "Belli?" Belli flinched. Orania was standing in the doorway. What was she doing here? "What is it?" Belli grumbled. She actually wanted some peace and quiet. Orania took a deep breath. Belli saw that she was struggling with herself. "I don't feel comfortable here." She finally managed to get out. "I am unhappy. I… this world is no longer my home." Belli looked at her and was stunned. Her sister wanted to go back to a dangerous world? Her sister? Her book-loving sister? Orania loved reading books, but she never wanted to experience the dangers they contained. At least that's what Belli thought. Thunder rumbled. The irregular raindrops turned into a heavy downpour. The drops pattered against the window. The road, which was slightly downhill, became a small stream. The water flowed towards the forest. Belli, Anna Mathilda, Caty and Aimée used to play in the nearby forest. Until Belli and Orania had disappeared into the other world. Aimée had immediately seized the opportunity and grabbed Anna Mathilda. And now she wanted to take Caty away from Belli too. Since they were no longer a foursome, Bodo and Bryan always called her "Single". She snorted. Anna Mathilda and she had only been friends. And she had never wanted more. "Belli?" asked Orania. "W-what?" stuttered Belli. "You didn't answer me." "Answered you? To what?" She tried to avert her eyes, but Orania looked straight at her anyway. "I said something." "Yeah, right, um… what did you say again?"

I’m so sorry for the anxiety of moving!
I’d love to hear any headcanons you have about the everyday lives of the Valar in Valinor
-@outofangband
I'm so, so sorry!! You sent me this ask at the beginning of October last year and I neglected to answer it the entire time! Thank you for the ask still! Thinking about this question actually took away some of the anxiety.
I didn't do all the Valar, only a handful for which I had ideas. They're still not finalised and I am not sure how much in line with canon these ideas are but I hope you like them regardless! @outofangband
Manwë
He LOVES weddings. He doesn't completely understand the concept behind them but he loves, loves, loves weddings regardless. The setting, the people, the pure amount of pure love and harmony radiating from the pair. It just makes him so happy. That is what he wants from Arda, the happiness and harmony, the love and joy. He gladly ignores family feuds for this.
And it doesn't even matter who marries, whether it's Ainu, Eldar or any other living being Manwë will make sure to spare the lucky couple a visit whether in person or in the form of a gentle breeze. The fact that he probably should disguise himself and not show up in his Valar form is something he learns after he unintentionally crashes the sixth wedding, sending everyone into a state of shock because holy shit that's the Eldar King at our wedding, love. In later ages he just watches as an invisible guest or in the form of a small bird.
He always gets really sad when it starts to rain because that's Ulmo's realm of control and Manwë can't just make it stop.
The day Tulkas and Nessa announced that they want to be wed he was over the fucking, not yet existent, moon. I swear that the entire ordeal was solely planned by him and Varda would stare anyone down who wanted to interfere because she has not seen Manwë this enthusiastic about something since he discovered the possibility of rainbows.
Tulkas and Oromë
One of the longest lasting arguments they have caused amongst the Eldar is their opinion on which is the better animal companion. Cats or dogs?
See, Tulkas is a cat person through and through and he will fight, literally get into a fistfight with anyone who dares to argue with him on that. The only person he actually lost to before is Yavanna, but that's a story for another time.
He brawled with Oromë on numerous occasions and for vastly different reasons. The most heated argument and the worst fight they have gotten into was when Oromë insisted that no, dogs are better than cats, because they actually listen to what you say and aren't assholes by nature (his words, Oromë really doesn't like cats).
Eventually they reduced their differences to antagonistic staring matches and complaining to a very amused Nessa about how very wrong the other one was and that it was so difficult to make him see reason.
Their dispute however carried over to their devotee's and followers, when they learned of their respective lords' preferences and adapted accordingly. They mostly carry on the arguments of which is better for the sake of it and because it's very stress relieving not to fight over some family feud (looking at the Finweans here) but over the simple matter of whether one likes cats or dogs more. Though they mostly stick to non physical arguments rather than full on fistfights.
Fëanturi, Niënna, Estë and Vairë
Those who returned from the halls before the Darkening and the Flight of the Noldor often chose to keep to themselves in their own separated communities, and entered the service of Niënna, one of the Fëanturi, Estë or Vairë.
Estë is the one who generally gets the largest number of followers. Healing is considered a valuable skill even in paradise and the people who learn from her often go on to become wandering healers.
Vairë and Irmo receive about an equal amount of returned elves who wish to enter their services and learn the art of weaving and dream making.
It is not unusual to find many of the Avari who died at Cuivienen to sit amongst Vairë's Maiar, helping them to weave the history of the part of the world they love so very dearly and had to leave too early. And it is equally common to find a stranger coming to a calaquendi settlement, sometimes accompanying the wandering healers, sometimes alone, bringing with them new bedtime stories, songs and small trinkets that help infants fall asleep or with advice for those who fail to sleep at night.
Niënna does not receive followers in the same way the others do. Those who come to her are not there to learn her skills or anything of that sort, they are there to rest and heal their spirits. Many of them were former captives of Melkor, who died not yet fully turned to orcs and who wished for nothing more than mercy. They feel uncomfortable in the colourful and vibrant environment that are the Gardens of Lórien and find the presence of Estë unsettling. Niënna's quiet mourning and her gentle mercy are what puts them at ease.
There are only a handful of people who serve Námo because no one actually is meant to be alive within the halls. One cannot enter them with a living body, so those who chose to serve Námo have to leave them behind again. This is a sacrifice only a few are willing to make.
