If Ned Stark became King

Hypothetically speaking. Let's say Robert and Rhaegar killed each other in the Battle of The Trident and Ned had no choice but to take the Iron Throne because The Rebellion expected it of him. Here is how I could see things going.

Tywin lannister would have been sentenced to death do to his part in the deaths of Ella Martell, Rhaenys and baby Aegon.

Jamie has three options. He killed the King he was sworn to protect which should mean either a death sentence or a sentence to the wall. If he could convenience Ned that he did the right and honorable thing by keeping the city from being burned maybe he could have lived and be Lord of Casterly Rock.

If Jamie died, Tyrion would have become Lord of Casterly Rock.

He would send for Queen Rhaella and Viserys and baby Daenerys in peace promising safety. Rhaella would have been allowed to live and raise Daenerys possibly in the capital or on Dragon Stone. Viserys would have been sent to the Eryie as a ward of Lord Jon Arryn. ( Ned had fond memories of being warded there, a good place for a confused young child).

Now for Jon, this is my belief of what would have happened. Jon would have been named Prince and heir and betrothed to Ned's first born daughter, in this case Sansa. This would unite both the rebellion and House Targaryen uniting the kingdom again.

Stannis would have been given temporary lordship over Dragonstone, holding it for Viserys. And would still be Lord of Storms End.

The Martells would be happy because they would have been given the Mountain and Tywin would've been executed for his crimes. I could see Ned also fostering Jon there. By all rights Jon is sort of related to the Martells. Its unknown if Ella knew that Rhaegar was going to remarry or not, if she knew and told her family I could see them opening their arms to Jon.

Now for Winterfell, with Ned at Kings Landing, Benjen would be the stark in the north. Its unknown why Benjen joined the Nights watch, I think he just plain wanted to. Ned would ask Benjen to hold Winterfell for a time before he joins, till either Robb is ready to take over, or Ned leaves the thrown for Jon.

Since the Eddard-Catelyn marriage had already been arranged it would not change. Marriages would be vastly different however.

Eddard and Cats marriage ensures an alliance between the Tullys and Starks.

Robb would then be promised to Margaery Tyrell when they both came of age thereby ensuring an alliance between the Tyrells and Starks.

Jaime Lannister and Lysa Tully would be betrothed thereby ensuring an alliance with The Westerlands and the Riverlands and, by extension, the Crown.

Because Jon Arryn had no heirs and was getting older he would be wed as well but since he was already Lord Paramount of the Vale his bride would be from a lesser vassal house from the Reach.

Prince Oberyn would be wed to Cersei hereby ensuring an alliance with Dorne and the Westerlands.

Arya Stark and Quentyn Martell

Arianne Martell and Theon Greyjoy

Viserys and Shireen

Daenerys and Willas

Varys and Baelish would be summarily dismissed from their services in the capital. They would be given holdfasts somewhere far away and forever be barred from the capital or from raising armies.

Grand Maester Pycelle would be sent to the Citadel for reassignment elsewhere. An election for a new Grand Maester would take place then (as is the Citadels way).

Hand of the King: Jon Arryn

Grand Maester: Marwyn

Master of Coin: Olenna Tyrell

Master of Ships: Balon Greyjoy (bring him into the fold)

Lord Commander of the King’s Guard: Barristan Selmy

Master of Whispers: Prince Doran of Dorne (Bringing Dorne into the Fold as well)

Master of Laws: Brynden Tully

Lord Commander of the City Watch: Mace Tyrell

One of Ned’s first and continuing acts would be to repair the damage, both physical and emotional from Robert’s Rebellion and to repair the relations and trust between the common people and the Crown.

All soldiers that fought against Robert and Eddard during the campaign would be forgiven and pardoned and allowed to return to their homes without consequence. Their leaders, depending on their level of loyalty, would be offered a chance to swear fealty to the Starks. Any that refused would be sent to the Wall and their lands, estates, and positions would be given to loyal nobles.

Ned understood that the job of a noble is to help the people (he considers them his children), and he would immediately order all noble houses of a certain wealth to pay a one-time reparation tax to lift the poor out of poverty and to secure a positive working relationship with them.

Because so many noble houses have been killed off and there is a lack of trueborn individuals left in the kingdom tournaments would be held throughout the kingdom that would be open to the common man, the winners of which would receive a large reward of coin, be allowed to squire with the guarantee of knighthood, and a holdfast. These new nobles would be extremely loyal to the house that allowed them knighthood as well as the crown that elevated their status. These tournaments would also serve to lift the spirits of the common people.

If Ned took the throne the world would be a lot different and ultimately the story would be considerably more boring because the “game” would never happen.

Jon Snow has different dynamics with the different siblings of house Stark and yet I notice in fanworks and meta there is an uniformity applied to these relationships and to House Stark in general compared to other houses and characters. He’s Robb’s best friend, the protective older brother for Bran and Rickon, the best brother ever for Arya and the distant bastard she grew up with for Sansa. Fans complain that Jon Snow is boring and bland, noble and self-sacrificing and then strip away the anger, indifference, envy, bitterness and giant chip on his shoulder i.e everything that makes him a complex and well rounded character in the books.

For example, Tyrion’s relationship with Cersei and Jaime is very different in the books and justifiably treated very differently by fandom. The Baratheon brothers have different relationships with each other as do the Tully siblings. As do the Greyjoy siblings.

And while Arianne is not close to both her younger brothers, again, she thinks differently of Quentyn and Trystane and loves her bastard cousins, the sand snakes, more than she does her true born Martell brothers. The strengths of these different relationships are organically fostered and nurtured in the narrative by the emotional bonds formed while growing up.

Arianne loved all her bastard cousins, from prickly, hot-tempered Obara to little Loreza, the youngest, only six years old. Tyene had always been the one she loved the most, though; the sweet sister that she never had. The princess had never been close to her brothers; Quentyn was off at Yronwood, and Trystane was too young. No, it had always been her and Tyene, with Garin and Drey and Spotted Sylva. Nym would sometimes join them in their sport, and Sarella was forever pushing in where she didn’t belong, but for the most part they had been a company of five. They splashed in the pools and fountains of the Water Gardens, and rode into battle perched on one another’s naked backs. She and Tyene had learned to read together, learned to ride together, learned to dance together. When they were ten Arianne had stolen a flagon of wine, and the two of them had gotten drunk together. They shared meals and beds and jewelry.The more she thought about her cousins, the more the princess missed them - The Princess in the Tower, AFfC

In contrast, she does not think too highly of Quentyn and disparages him as a possible heir. She feels guilty about resenting him. If she had to choose between her bastard cousins and Quentyn, we know whom she would choose.

The same is true for house Stark and the sibling dynamics there. Theon Greyjoy has different relationships with Robb and Jon and vice versa. Robb has different dynamics with Jon and Bran. Arya has a different dynamic with Robb and Jon. Sansa thinks more highly of Margaery Tyrell and wished Margaery was her sister rather than Arya.

We don’t even have to infer this, it’s on the page in the text in Jon Snow and other Stark pov chapters. We form these interpretations of these sibling dynamics through the emotions Jon associates with the siblings he misses. We read it in Jon’s memories of his farewells:

He remembered the day he had left Winterfell, all the bittersweet farewells; Bran lying broken, Robb with snow in his hair, Arya raining kisses on him after he’d given her Needle.

We read it in his nostalgic memories of childhood

Even the thought made him feel foolish; he was a man grown now, a black brother of the Night’s Watch, not the boy who’d once sat at Old Nan’s feet with Bran and Robb and Arya.

Playing, Jon thought in astonishment, grown men playing like children, throwing snowballs the way Bran and Arya once did, and Robb and me before them

We read it in his desire to talk with them again and his agony at being unable to help them

That might mean Lord Eddard would return to Winterfell, and his sisters as well. He might even be allowed to visit them, with Lord Mormont’s permission. It would be good to see Arya’s grin again and to talk with his father.

He remembered Robb as he had last seen him, standing in the yard with snow melting in his auburn hair. Jon would have to come to him in secret, disguised. He tried to imagine the look on Robb's face when he revealed himself. His brother would shake his head and smile, and he'd say … he'd say …

Jon Snow straightened himself and took a long deep breath. Forgive me, Father. Robb, Arya, Bran … forgive me, I cannot help you. He has the truth of it. This is my place.

“I have no sister. Only brothers. Only you.” Lady Catelyn would have rejoiced to hear those words, he knew. That did not make them easier to say. His fingers closed around the parchment. Would that they could crush Ramsay Bolton’s throat as easily.

The three most important Stark sibling dynamics for Jon Snow, story wise and in terms of narrative themes, are Arya, Robb and Bran Stark. Arya for that unconditional love and support, Robb for that sibling rivalry/best friend/brotherhood dynamic (In AFfC/ADwD, Jon compares/parallels Sam Tarly with Robb Stark) and Bran for that little/big brother dynamic. These are the Stark relationships the author has nurtured, for their narrative importance, over four books worth of Jon Snow POV chapters.

Robb is important for Jon to battle with his bastardy, his Stark identity and desire for Winterfell and will most probably conclude when he hears of Robb naming him heir to Winterfell and the North and the truth of his parentage. Bran is important in terms of Jon’s ultimate destiny, the awakening of Jon’s inherent warging powers, and his role in the fight against the Others. Arya is important for Jon’s conflict between love and duty, underpinning his ADwD plot of straddling that line between wanting to save her and wanting to do right by his men and the Night’s Watch.

While he mentions Robb, Arya and Bran the most, read the passages where he namedrops all the Stark siblings. Sansa is always last with Arya getting that special mention at the end.

He missed his true brothers: little Rickon, bright eyes shining as he begged for a sweet; Robb, his rival and best friend and constant companion; Bran, stubborn and curious, always wanting to follow and join in whatever Jon and Robb were doing. He missed the girls too, even Sansa, who never called him anything but “my half brother” since she was old enough to understand what bastard meant. And Arya … he missed her even more than Robb, skinny little thing that she was, all scraped knees and tangled hair and torn clothes, so fierce and willful. - Jon, AGoT

Jon flexed the fingers of his sword hand. The Night's Watch takes no part. He closed his fist and opened it again. What you propose is nothing less than treason. He thought of Robb, with snowflakes melting in his hair. Kill the boy and let the man be born. He thought of Bran, clambering up a tower wall, agile as a monkey. Of Rickon's breathless laughter. Of Sansa, brushing out Lady's coat and singing to herself. You know nothing, Jon Snow. He thought of Arya, her hair as tangled as a bird's nest. I made him a warm cloak from the skins of the six whores who came with him to Winterfell ... I want my bride back ... I want my bride back ... I want my bride back ... - Jon, ADwD

And for Arya:

Needle was Robb and Bran and Rickon, her mother and her father, even Sansa. Needle was Winterfell's grey walls, and the laughter of its people. Needle was the summer snows, Old Nan's stories, the heart tree with its red leaves and scary face, the warm earthy smell of the glass gardens, the sound of the north wind rattling the shutters of her room. Needle was Jon Snow's smile. - Arya, AFfC

The reason for why Jon and Arya quantify their mention of Sansa with an ‘Even’ is that they are surprised to be missing her, given they have a contentious (In Arya’s case) and a non-existent (In Jon’s case) relationship with her. However, they do associate her with Winterfell and family and have similar visual memories of her

Winterfell, she might have said. I smell snow and smoke and pine needles. I smell the stables. I smell Hodor laughing, and Jon and Robb battling in the yard, and Sansa singing about some stupid lady fair. I smell the crypts where the stone kings sit, I smell hot bread baking, I smell the godswood. I smell my wolf, I smell her fur, almost as if she were still beside me. “I don’t smell anything,” she said, to see what he would say. Arya, AFFC

It’s just that they don’t have the same relationship with her as they do their other siblings. [And just a point to note here: If their relationship with Sansa has to change then it’s up to Sansa to change it, not Jon and Arya. It’s Sansa who has to experience character growth and stop seeing Jon and Arya as being less than her simply because of her prejudices against them. As of book 5 that still has not happened]

So just as every house and every character in it have different sibling dynamics so does House Stark. No house is a monolith and characters are not automatically showered with love and affection simply for belonging to a house. For Jon Snow in particular, his love and adoration is reserved for those who loved him enough to overlook his bastardy and foster a relationship with him. As is only natural, just like Arianne loves and cares for her bastard cousins after growing up together.

Terrible Fic Idea #78: Rhaegar Wins, but make it a fairy tale

After posting #77, it occurred to me that the most realistic course of action for an orphan upon learning his real parents are a king and queen is not one of revenge for crimes he may be too young to understand against his mother. It's of wanting to run away and live with his real parents in a castle instead of having to stay with his evil stepmother. So I thought: why not lean into the fairy tale aspect?

Or: What if Rhaegar found his long lost son living among the Starks?

Aka: The Lost Prince Fic

Just imagine it:

Everything goes according to canon until the Trident. Rhaegar defeats Robert Baratheon in single combat, but does not kill him, and forces his surrender. An injured Robert is imprisoned and the combined royalist/rebel army marches on King's Landing, overthrows Aerys II, and installs Rhaegar on the Iron Throne.

Robert is stripped of his lands and titles and sent into exile. Stannis, who was only following his liege's orders, is made Lord of Storm's End and in one stroke becomes Rhaegar's fiercest supporter.

Rhaegar, hesitant to leave his capitol so soon after coming to power, sends Ned to retrieve Lyanna from the Tower of Joy.

Ned finds Lyanna dying in childbirth and claims her son for her own, telling Rhaegar both died in childbed.

Years pass, and Jon grows up in Winterfell with a stepmother who is understandably disgruntled by his presence. (Dealer's choice on how wicked a wicked stepmother Catelyn actually is, whether truly evil or just appearing so in the eyes of a young child.) And so when a 6-year-old Jon overhears Ned and Benjen talking about his real parentage, Jon decides to run away and find his real father, the king.

This is made easier by a royal progress touring the Seven Kingdoms Rhaegar is undertaking after stabilizing his kingdom, which is on the way to Winterfell - indeed, it's why Ned and Benjen were discussing what to do about Jon in the first place. So instead of needing to run all the way to King's Landing, Jon just has to wait a few weeks and find a way to speak to Rhaegar.

He does, slipping into the king's guest rooms and doing his whole Rhaegar, I am your son speech - which, after some tears and confusion, Rhaegar wholeheartedly accepts. Rhaegar promises to take him home to King's Landing, where Jon - rechristened Aemon - will be loved and treated like a prince.

All this has unfortunate consequences for House Stark. Ned is sent to the Wall for his treason, Catelyn is sent to the Starry Sept to become a septa, and their three children are left in the care of a distant cousin, Lord Ondrew Locke. Though young Robb is named Lord of Winterfell, Lord Locke wields all real power in the north.

Jon - Aemon - is not immediately aware of this. He's too happy to be surrounded by his real family, who love him and treat him well. Rhaenys and Aegon are excited to have another playmate, and even Queen Elia enjoys his quiet, calm presence - and the pressure it takes off of her to birth further heirs.

As the years pass, cracks begin to form. On top of the guilt Aemon feels for depriving his cousins of their parents - he never receives any replies to his letters, though that may be Locke's doing - he's slowly becoming aware that there are many in the court who would like to use him, either to gain power for themselves or deprive the Dornish of the power they'll surely gain when Aegon becomes king.

Add to this the fact that Rhaegar, while initially pleased to have a piece of Lyanna return to him, is still obsessed with his prophesy. The dragon must have three heads - but who? His sons and daughter? His son, daughter, and sister - and if so, which son? Or maybe it's his sons and his brother? His favorites shift as goes from one interpretation to another, which leads to him playing his family against each other - and the younger members of his family seeing each other as rivals for their father's/brother's attention.

And Elia? While initially Aemon's greatest ally, she's unable to help comparing her own sickly, bookish son with her knightly stepson - and knows he'll be a danger to Aegon for as long as he lives, whether he wishes to be or not.

It all comes to a head in 298 AC, when Rhaegar dies of wounds gained while jousting against the captain of his Kingsguard, Ser Arthur Dayne, ten days before.

Aegon - in Sunspear for the installation of Arianne Martell as Princess of Dorne with his mother and aunt - is named Lord of the Seven Kingdoms as soon as the ravens arrive. And that should be that, except Aemon - who'd stayed behind in King's Landing - is immediately named king by those who stand the most to lose by Aegon coming to the throne.

And so Westeros falls into civil war over which son of Rhaegar should rule.

At first it seems clear Aegon VI will prevail - he has Dorne behind him, and, with his sister's marriage to Wilias Tyrell, the Reach. Add to that the Riverlands - which have hated Aemon since he was still the bastard Jon Snow - and the North - whose regent, Lord Locke, owes all his power to his Targaryen masters - and that's four kingdoms at his side. And with the Iron Islands in open rebellion, only three could possibly back Aemon.

But what a three they are. The Stormlands, Westerlands, and Vale all side with Aemon for a variety of reasons - power, hatred of Dorne and/or the Reach, fondness for the Starks - and can easily field an army to match Aegon's.

The war rages without much input from its figureheads. Aegon is kept safely in Sunspear, hastily married to his aunt Daenerys to secure his line and claim, and is largely a puppet of his cousin Princess Arianne. Aemon is kept safely in King's Landing, hastily married to his self-proclaimed Hand's granddaughter Myrcella, and is largely a puppet of Tywin Lannister.

But Arianne is not the careful planner her father was. While calculating, her fierce temper often gets the better of her, alienating many of her allies. Equally Tywin is feared, not loved, and growing old enough that many are willing to shake his hold if pressed.

Just when it seems like all Aegon's army has to do is march on King's Landing, the unthinkable happens: Aegon VI is killed by a shadow in the safety of Sunspear. Many think Arianne ordered it sent if she didn't conjure it up herself - especially as she declares her husband, Prince Consort Viserys, Aegon's successor. Much of her army deserts to the Reach, which declares for Wilias Tyrell's wife, Princess Rhaenys.

Around the same time, Robb finally frees himself from Lord Locke's control, ordering the man sent to the Wall. Though he has little love for the cousin who destroyed his family, he is Northern enough to acknowledge that after Aegon's death Aemon is the legal heir, and so the North switches sides.

Meanwhile, Aemon is devastated to learn of the death of his brother. When he eventually learns it had been sent by Stannis and his Red Witch, he arrests the both and executes them on the steps of the Baelor's Sept for sorcery and regicide. Quite naturally, much the Stormlands abandons his cause - a course of events which very much displeases his Hand.

Into this mess arrives Robert fresh from exile, with the Golden Company at his back and Blackfyre in hand. He's joined by many of the Stormlords who'd deserted Aemon, and they make strong progress against both the Dornish and Reacher forces.

A war of five kings rages.

Eventually Robb subdues the Riverlands, forcing Edmure to submit to the North's overlordship - and to marry his sister Sansa, who in the absence of Catelyn grew quite quickly into the shrewd woman we see later in canon.

Similarly, Robert with his fresh troops takes Highgarden and plans to marry himself to the newly widowed Rhaenys - only for Viserys' Dornish forces to poison the lot at the wedding, to devastating losses on both sides. It is said Robert's squire and Rhaenys' handmaid, trysting in the stables, were the only ones on either side to survive.

That same night, Tywin is found dead in his bed. (Either of old age or very carefully poisoned by Tyiron, who is installed as Aemon's Hand the next day.)

As autumn turns to winter, Aemon leads his armies south into Dorne. Weary, isolated, and largely dispirited by the war, the Dornish nevertheless put up a strong resistance - but Viserys is nonetheless captured and brought in chains back to King's Landing, where he was imprisoned in some comfort until he broke his neck trying to escape his tower prison some months later. His wife Arianne kills herself rather than be taken prisoner. The lordship of Dorne passes to her brother Quentyn on the condition he wed Aegon's widow, Daenerys - which suits both just fine, as they'd been lovers since at least Aegon's death.

The Ironborn are quickly mopped up and the long winter does much to defuse lingering tensions.

Aemon rules for sixty years and spends much of his time dealing with the consequences of the War of Five Kings - chief among them massive loss of life on all sides. There are multiple invasion attempts from various alliances of Free Cities, all of which are repelled - gaining Aemon a strong reputation as a warrior king. Tensions flare up at least once a decade between the Reach, Stormlands, and Dorne, and the fact that Aemon manages to maneuver them each time from all-out war gains him a reputation for shrewdness as well. By his death the Seven Kingdoms are more stable than they've been in generations - but at great cost.

Bonuses include: 1) An exploration of how family dynamics and loyalties often play a great role in Medieval warfare. Of particular focus should be the relationship between Aemon and Aegon, which starts strong until forced apart by outside tensions - and the relationship between Aemon and Robb, which starts strong, ebbs after Aemon is taken to King's Landing, and regains a shadow of its former strength after the War ends; 2) An exploration of familial love in every form it takes, from Catelyn's understandable preference for her own children to Rhaegar's utilization of his kin as pawns in a prophecy that never comes to Elia's fear for her son overriding her love for her stepson, and so forth; and 3) Meditations on the inherent meaninglessness of title, wealth, and temporal power, somewhat along the lines of Book II of The Consolation of Philosophy - perhaps even with Aemon penning something similar during the years he's under the thumb of Tywin Lannister.

My opinion on some asoiaf ships

Jal ->

* They aren't gonna be endgame. Val is kinda a blank slate, even Harry Hardyng has more personality and he only appeared in a sample chapter + Jon dreams of an idyllic life with Val, but based on his own tastes, in his own image of what Val should be, and this imagined future is shattered the moment Val declares that Shireen, an innocent child, should be killed. Jon is rightfully disgusted "this was a Val that Jon had never seen before", this Val is the real one, not the one he had imagined, and Jon isn't attracted to the real Val

Stardyng ->

* I kinda ship them. Listen Harry isn't perfect, far from it, but he isn't significantly older than Sansa, he didn't abuse her, he didn't sexualised her (guys she's 13), he geniunely admires her qualities (her intelligence and humor), he apologized for his classism (and he hates LF so it's no wonder he didn't want to marry LF's "bastard daughter")

* They're perfect, okay ? They need to heal and get justice and then to be happy together in Winterfell thank you very much

Ned x Ashara ->

* I'm of the opinion Ashara was Ned's teenage love. Cat was the love of his life, but in my headcanon he geniunely cared about Ashara and he repressed his memories of her. Just like his eldest daughter, Ned repressed a lot of his trauma because it hurts him too much. He only thinks of Lyanna when he's triggered by traumatic events like Sansa pleading for Lady or when he's injured and anesthetized by the milk of the poppy and he barely thinks of his own father and brother so it wouldn't be surprising

* Perhaps Robb is Sleeping Beauty. He's the one with the evil step-mom who wants to kill him and his family. Old Fairy Walder Frey is offended by the Stark-Tully family and curses 16 YO Robb. Seventh Fairy Edmure tries to save the day but it doesn't work. Anyway. Robb was young, he made a ton of mistakes, especially towards his own family, but he didn't want any of this, he didn't want to be king, he wasn't ready, he wanted to save Jeyne's honor, he wanted to do the right thing (unlike the show version). I want Jeyne to make it at the end but I'm pessimistic. They deserved better. I kinda ship them

Asoiaf Rare Pairs Week 2022

This is a list of relationships in my fanfiction that were not cannon in the books or show

Cersei Lannister and Oberyn Martell are married (They hate each other)

Arianne Martell is betrothed to Viserys Targaryen (they have met once or twice and don’t have much of an opinion on eachother)

Aegon Targaryen is betrothed to Sansa Stark (they not met yet but Aegon is on his way to Winterfell to meet Sansa)

More than a year after their encounter at the Baratheons’ Halloween party, Theon and Robb meet again — but this time Theon is the only one wearing a costume.

“I know I should be angry with you for ghosting me after Halloween, but fuck me, that outfit is ridiculous,” Robb said. He looked more than a little awed. “You like it?” Theon asked, flexing his triceps. Robb nodded, his mouth slightly agape. Theon laughed, which in turn brought a flush to Robb’s face. “Can you blame me?” Robb asked, helplessly gesturing to Theon. “You’re practically naked.” He couldn’t exactly disagree with that statement, so he just shrugged instead.

Sansa not even knowing of Arya's or Jeyne's marriage to Ramsay is an indication of how little Petyr Baelish has told her and the readers of his grand schemes, plans and secret BTS plotting.

Which is one reason why we cannot take any of what Baelish tells Sansa at face value, considering everything he is not telling her.

We can pick up some clues here and there. The food that he is hoarding for his price gouging scheme informs me that he is aware that the food situation has become dire.

At the same time, while Littlefinger appears omnipotent in how much he controls and manipulates situations, we can also see there are other events that are beyond his control and will end up putting a spanner in the works.

For one, Baelish is only able to keep ahead of situations with a lot of luck (Tyrion not exposing him) and with the help of information available to him from an extensive spy network that lets him know of what is happening where and who is doing what. Ex. Dontos telling him of the Tyrell plot to marry Sansa to Willas.

It's easy to have spies in King's Landing (We get a little tidbit of LF asking for some tapestries...). Same with the Riverlands given that Littlefinger has reason to be interested in what's happening there as Lord Paramount of the Riverlands.

The rest of the realm and Essos is harder but doable with respect to public events and information that is trickling in everywhere. Like the current chaos in Meereen or the attack on Old Town or the Golden Company and Aegon Targaryen. Dorne (and the separate Quentyn/Arianne plots) would be near impossible considering how secretive Doran Martell has been.

Also trickier is the North considering how isolated it is, the weather and a lot of secretive plotting behind the scenes.

I doubt Littlefinger knows about Robb's will/decree considering it was witnessed and signed by select lords - most of whom are dead, imprisoned or on their way North secretly. I don't think there is a possibility of spies there or anyone blabbing to someone else.

There's no way Littlefinger knows about Rickon because, again, no possibility of spies in Manderly and Glover's secret plotting with Davos given how stealthy they are being on account of the Freys in their camp.

There was a lot of noise recently about an AFfC draft which mentions LF getting a message from White Harbor. But again, what message? If he has a spy there then the information he is getting will about the Manderlys being forced into marriage and alliance with the Freys and the crown in KL.

If he plans to sail to White Harbor to unveil Sansa as the heir in Winterfell based on information he gets from WH, he's going to be in for a big surprise. I do think he will have to course correct because by the time the intrigue in the Vale is all settled, he will get news that the Boltons are defeated and that Rickon/Jon have taken Winterfell and the North. What will he do then? I think he will pivot towards the Riverlands. Or, he may focus on the Riverlands first before he gets the news of Rickon/Jon back in Winterfell .

Apart from Sam Tarly, the only other group who knows that Bran is still alive are select folks of the Mountain clans and again, I can't imagine a Littlefinger plant secretly sending him messages amongst these clans.

Same with Arya Stark. Littlefinger - along with the Lannisters and the Boltons - thinks that Arya is dead and knows an imposter is playing her in the marriage to Ramsay Bolton.

This is most likely a vital part of his plot to get rid of the Boltons by exposing fake Arya as Jeyne, revealing Alayne as Sansa Stark and lay claim to Winterfell through Sansa as the rightful heir just like Tywin intended to eventually do with Tyrion/Sansa. However, Arya Stark is alive and well and unencumbered by marriage and there are no spies or informants who know this.

Littlefinger most likely knows about what's happening at the Wall considering how much information is leaking out of there like a sieve. If Cersei is able to get information, then so can Baelish. He surely knows about Stannis at the Wall, Tycho passing through and will know about Jon's assassination and mutiny. What he does with that information will be interesting to read - how much he will reveal to Sansa, and in what form he will tell her the truth.

And that's what most exciting about all this. The lack of information on what's actually happening in the North that's going to thwart and throw a spanner in Littlefinger's grand plans while Daenerys does the same to Varys' grand schemes. I think it will be fun if events end up surprising these master players of the games.
