I had actually animated this ages ago and put it on the back burner because I wasn't happy with it, but I looked at it today and realized it wasn't that bad, haha.

So! Funny story. Calvin was originally based off of hockey boys I knew (and couldn't stand) circa 2005-7 in rural hellberta school. At the time mullets were out of fashion, but the contemporary hockey hair of the day was usually on the longer side and seemed almost deliberately cut so that anyone sporting it would have to twitch their head every couple of minutes in this particularly spastic, annoying af way in order to see anything. This animation was based on me trying to mimic it (though of course I don't have 2000s Hockey Hair lol, I'd say it was maybe an inch or so longer than zac efron's was during that time and would curl up slightly at the ends, if that helps- or more accurately it was a lot like that chad dylan cooper guy!) (this said, it was NOT like emo/scene hair, which was considered an uncool "gay" haircut despite being quite similar in retrospect).

In Calvin's first design (ca. 2010) he had short hair with long bangs that grew into that 2005 hockey hair and eventually into the full 1970s hockey mullet you see today, partly because the blond mullet is kind of a Calgary stereotype and partly because when my friends would draw fan art of him they drew him with longer hair!

hahahaha ohhh sneaky hohoho well - the same answer i always give, it's a lyric from two different songs by two different canadian artists i was obsessed with circa 2002-4 ish. Usually people will guess one but not the other and no one has done both yet :3

not sure, i just know that after having to live with me for 3 years that Quatsch knows how to read me before i do haha. i guess i shut down emotionally when i am upset or tired - most of the time it is just overstimulation or too much socializing and not actual anger At people but i guess it comes across that way.

Been wondering for awhile.

OH HA its former mayor of Edmonton Don Iveson - I put him in a flower crown because I needed a cheery reminder that decent politicians exist sometimes and I have a weird obsession with him. BoAB was somewhat inspired by the Hurtig lecture given by him and (now former) Calgary mayor Naheed Nenshi; they talked about the struggles and the future of municipalities and it got me excited about cities in a way that I hadn't thought about before.

the tag for stuff about him on this blog is iguanodon ivysaur though there's not much in there. But i have two favourite (short) (meme-able) videos featuring him here and here.

And while I have your attention, I want to apologize for this event being so poorly managed. I don't think "I'm tired" is a good enough excuse for the lack of updates and the needing to do a reboot. I have a tendency to be overly ambitious and take on more than I can handle, which ultimately leads me to crumble. This isn't my first time organizing a large group of artists, but it's the first time I've had to be on top of people and constantly check up. I'm so sorry Round 1 has been so rocky and a bit of a mess. I somehow didn't anticipate how the big change of how many people I needed to oversee between Round 0 and Round 1 would be so overwhelming.

I think if I'm going to continue this event, I need more hands on deck. At the very least, we WILL be finishing Round 1!!! The art I've seen from the people who've had their turns thus far is absolutely stunning and I'm excited to see how each group finishes up.

Thank you all for being patient with me. I'm very excited for the final collages to be revealed towards the end of the month.

I was taking a look at your canon fic list and couldn't help but notice that one of fics title's mention that Et has a pineapple allergy???

he does! so - it's an old gag joke more than anything else but in ontario once upon a time there was a french tv show that ran in the 80s called téléfrançais. and in it there was an animatronic pineapple that could talk. and. when i was made aware of this - thing - i was quite ....... perplexed and shocked.

the others who had subjected me with this Thing liked to poke fun by drawing étienne reacting to the pineapple. eventually, i decided that a good joke would be to make him allergic to pineapples
