M. V. Rajamma ラージャンマーは戦前から活躍した南の女優、ダンサー、歌手、映画製作者だ。上は Yogi Vemana (1947 テルグ)の一場面で、ここではバラタナーティヤムの源流となった Sadhir を演じている。

バラタは1936年にルクミニ・デーヴィ Rukmini Devi Arundale  がカラークシェティラーKalakshetra を創設してから広まった名称で、内容も Sadhir を格式付けて改変しイデオロギーもふくらませている。

Maharanee Of Baroda (1930-1935) という名のドキュメンタリーに、1930年代のデーヴァダーシーが登場して踊っている。これがバラタ登場以前の、 Sadhir あるいはダーシーアーッタムDasiaattam と呼ばれたものだ。ラージャンマーの踊りはバラタより Sadhir の面影を伝えている。

この時期に頭角をあらわしたカマラー大師は、ルクミニ派でなくヴァルヴール派の流れでまたちょっと色合いがちがう。そもそもはカッタクから古典に入った人だ。

Yogi Vemana のもうひとつの踊りは、 Sadhir の誘惑的な一面をあらわしている。

ラージャンマーの1950年主演作 Raja Vikrama (タミル）

Gnana Soundari (1948 タミル)はキリスト教映画で、 聖母マリア が奇跡を起こしラージャンマーの失われた手が生える。イエスの受難も初めて描かれた。もとは舞台劇で、同時期に大手のジェミニ・プロも同題の大作をぶつけてきたが、そちらは惨敗した。クリスチャンがバラモンなまりでしゃべるのが不評をかったという。

パドミニとラリタが劇中で踊っている。姉妹の基礎は、カタカリから派生したケーララアーッタムにある。
