The chaha burns your tongue but you don't mind. You enjoy the scalding feel, even. It reminds you of the times when you were sick and your Ajji or Aai or Maushi would make lavang dalchini chaha to soothe your throat.
The primary storm season in India began three weeks ago. It's the Kartika mahina, and you stare out the window as the rain pounds against the glass, a cup of chaha and a plate of pakode on the table. You live in the continental part of Maharashtra, but the rains are always heavy during storm season. You can't say you don't enjoy it.
The local library has shelves upon shelves of pustaka in Marathi, Hindi, Urdu, Sanskrit and even the occasional English. You spend most of the storm season there, listening to the muffled rimjhim of paus as you read Ved Vyasa, Aryabhatta, Mirza Ghalib, Allama Iqbal, Kusumagraj and Pu La Deshpande.
Navratri had finished more than a week ago, but the aftermath is just as fun. Diwali is around the corner, and you can't decide whether you want to celebrate Seeta Ram returning to Ayodhya or the defeat of Narakasura by Satyabhama. The preparations begin right as Navratri finishes, and people start deep cleaning houses. You're roped into it by your Aai, and your muscles ache when you fall onto the charpai at night, but you feel accomplished.
You and your Tai sit down to paint the diwa, with natural paints that are bright and bold— laal, gulabi, keshari, hirwa, neela. It's an ongoing competition from many years ago, and both of you push and pull at each other, laughter spilling from your lips as you drag the ranga covered paintbrushes over each other's skin.
At the end, both of you watch with smiles as two diwe, one yours and one your Tai's, are placed on each side of the door.
Lights are strung up everywhere, and the overwhelming smell of mithai and chakli and udbatti float around the house. The kitchen is filled with smoke as your Ajji, Aai and Maushi toil away at making all of those things. You take a deep breath before you leave the house, wanting to take the smell with you everywhere.
Diwali is just in a few days, and you can't wait.

Subhash Chandra Bose Jayanti 2023: Salute To Our True Hero
History and significance of Subhash Chandra Bose Jayanti
The celebration of Subhash Chandra Bose's birthday as a national holiday began in 1945, marking the beginning of Subhash Chandra Bose Jayanti. This was done to honour his role in the freedom movement in India. Among his honour, Parakram Diwas aims to instil a sense of patriotism in Indians and inspire them to act boldly in the face of hardship, especially the younger generation. Because of his inspiring leadership, Bose was also given the name "Netaji" by his supporters (which in Sanskrit means "leader" or "chief"). In the fight for Indian independence and among the Indian Armed Forces, Netaji was a beloved figure.
Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Birth
Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was born in Cuttack, Odisha, on January 23, 1897. People honour Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Jayanti to honour his sacrifices and significant contributions to India's liberation movement. His willingness to fight until he died inspires young people of all generations to put in extra effort to achieve their goals and aid in the development of their country. Every Indian honour him and learns about his services to the nation on this day, Neta Ji Jayanti.
Biography of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose
Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose attended Protestant European School in Cuttack, which is now Stewart High School, along with his siblings. He moved to England after Presidency College to attend Cambridge University in order to prepare for the Indian Civil Service. He was successful in the Indian Civil Service preliminary test, but he decided to join Mahatma Gandhi's Indian Freedom Movement instead of taking the main exam.
He quit the Indian National Congress subsequently and founded the Forward Bloc in 1939 after having an ideological conflict with Gandhi ji and his supporters. His relentless protests and steadfast beliefs led to his imprisonment in July 1940. He was freed from prison after a protracted hunger strike caused his health to deteriorate. As a result, he was put under house arrest at his Calcutta residence. From there, he fled and made his way to Berlin through Moscow in order to raise an army and recruit the help of the Axis Forces in an effort to overthrow the British Empire in India.
Celebrations of Subhash Chandra Bose Jayanti
You can participate in a variety of events and activities on this day that schools, universities, and other organizations have planned. Bose's sculptures and shrines may be seen all across the nation. The day will also feature a variety of public events, such as Air Force parades, the hoisting of the National Flag, seminars, and displays. You may learn more about his life and contributions thanks to all of this. The population of Indians living abroad also enthusiastically celebrates Netaji Bose Jayanti. Throughout the world, these events are planned in a variety of large cities.
Achievement of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose
He traveled to Germany for a while and tried to enlist their help. Later, he founded Azad Hind Fauj, commonly known as the Indian National Army, and traveled to Japan to request support. He received assistance from Rash Bihari Bose, an Indian Revolutionary who had fled to Japan and was attempting to establish the Indian Independence League to mobilize Southeast Asian Indians to fight for their country.
Following Japan's seizure of Andaman, he went there and hoisted the Indian flag. While commanding the INA, which had 45 000 men, he attempted to attack India from the North East. The Britisher was originally vanquished by him, enabling INA to push all the way to Kohima. When he first landed in the Indian Territory, he stooped to kiss his country tenderly.

Hindi Diwas: Few Hindi words that are now in Oxford Dictionary
Tumblr media
Sep 14, 2022 13:21 IST New Delhi , September 14 (AF): People celebrate 'Hindi Diwas' on Wednesday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted people on the occasion and highlighted how the language attracts so many people because of its simplicity, spontaneity, and simplicity. Well, we think so too. There are so many words that people who don't even speak the language have picked up and used on a regular basis. That's probably why there are many Hindi words that have been added to the Oxford Dictionary! Here's a list of a few of them. Jugaad In 2017, the word was added to Oxford Dictionary. The dictionary describes the word as "a flexible approach to problem-solving that uses limited resources in an innovative way". Well, isn't it our favourite word? Dadagiri This popularly used word was also added to the Oxford Dictionary in the same year. The Oxford dictionary translates the meaning of this word to " the act of using strength and power to frighten or hurt weaker people." Jungle One of the most commonly used words in Hindi and English is Jungle, which was one of the very few first words to be picked up from India by the Oxford dictionary. The word originated from Sanskrit and came to the English language via Hindi Chamcha Well, this one is everyone's favourite, it's a very regularly used Hindi word and has been described by the dictionary as "a person who tries too hard to please somebody, especially somebody who is important". Chakka Jam This one was also added to the dictionary in 2017. The dictionary describes the word as " a protest in which people block a road or cause a traffic jam." Didi Another word we commonly use as Hindi speakers! Oxford describes it as simple as it gets - "older female cousin". Achcha Oxford added this word among 90 other words it picked from various languages in India in 2017. The dictionary describes the word as "used to show that the speaker agrees with, accepts, understands, etc. something." Timepass To all those who thought it was an actual English word, you're wrong! There wasn't any such English word in the dictionary until 2017. The dictionary describes the word as "the action of spending time doing something, especially something that has no aim or is not very useful". Few other words that the English dictionary picked are - Bas, Jhuggi, Funda, Nivas, Gully, Natak, Sevak, Sevika, Chup, Surya Namaskar, Desh, Diya, Bada Din among many others (AF) Read the full article
