Are there any sonic au’s you would recommend? I am trying to find more to get into so would love to know if you have any favourites out there :D

Hello! Oh there are so many! :D I definitely have some favorites and some which aren't favs but are pretty great.

Putting these under the cut because there are so many! And there's definitely more cool AUs that I haven't seen or haven't saved.

Anyways, please enjoy my personal selection:

Seven Years Too Soon by NightFuchia. Basically what if a much younger Sonic accidentally set Shadow free from Prison Island. It has awesome characterization and happens to be one of my favorite stories. The rest of Team Sonic is also present

Brotherhood's Twist by @/drawloverlala even though I don't think it counts entirely as Au but it still sort of does. Unbreakable Bond ageswitch due to Zeti's meddling.

Passion's @sonic-tangled-au . I love it! So very much. The lore and backstories are so good.

Noonui's World Restored in Imbalanced Chaos au. Extremely engaging and good. Has a bunch of world building and fun concepts and lore.

Sonic's Super Totally Awesome Mixtape, though it seems to be discontinued, I'm not sure. It's pretty good so far! Takes place in the movie verse.

@brainworms-all-night-long is working on a Dreamtale Au which I'm hyped for. The tag in use is 'dreamtale and sonic tomfoolery'.

@/the-starlight-project comic is pretty good too. Mystery! And emotions. So many emotions ough.

And there's @the-emerald-isle-au by @0vergrowngraveyard . Very intriguing. 👀

The Fair Folk by Irritable_Fabulamancer, this fic is one of my favorites! Team Sonic as Fae my beloved! I love fae AUs.

On that note, if you're alright wanting to read a Fae!AU which is pretty much a sonadow fic, there is also I don't believe in fairy tales [but I believe in you and me]. Fantasy and Fae! Satbk inspired, another one that had me hooked.

My Arms Are Blue by thekyuubivixen and its unofficial, fan-continuation (My Arms Are Blue! Final Four Edition) by PlaystationPassenger. The story doesn't completely count as an AU but I'm recommending them anyway cuz they're really really good and has that watching your own show from different dimension trope. It's also hilarious and fun.

Burning Arrow, Wildfire Heart by Taranea is SatSR novelisation AU with Sonic's other friends present too, it's pretty fun. Not very accurate regarding the desert but it's a good read and I come back to reread it often. Must read in my opinion. Just don't dare use it as guide for desert travel or you'll be shriveled up in the sand somewhere

This fic. Read it, I will not elaborate this one. Just trust me :]

And don't miss out on @shadofiredragon's Legends Never Die fic. It's a future fic! And an awesome one. I won't spoil much but it is so good. She also has lots of fun AUs in the works.

Down the Foxhole series by MoonlitNightin. Sonic Prime AU series which is great! Tails' pov. The Shatterverses have their own Sonics. Engaging and great.

Feel free to check out @/Son1c's 10verse and other AUs. Those are some pretty great ones. Love the different lore and variants given to the Shatterverses in 10verse.

Spirit of the Wind by TrenchCoatGecko. Satbk inspired fantasy au. Sonamy, has focus on magic and lore and other characters as well.

Haven't yet started reading The Fox's Burrow by @/space-gutz but I'm planning to. Recommending it either way cuz I feel like it's gonna be good. Unbreakable Bond but ageswaped au.

@/sonicchaoscontrol comic. Another in-progress au which is also quite intriguing. Sonic jumps through a portal and exits in future where the planet is a mess. The mystery of what and how it all happened and what's going on slowly unfolds.

The Buzzsaw Dillemma by redpenship. I haven't personally read it myself but I've heard many good things about it, especially it's world building.

Incomplete and won't be updated anymore but if you haven't read them yet, DO NOT miss out on Ghosts of the Future and The Murder of Me fancomics by Evan Stanley (spiritsonic) and Gigi Deutrix (gigi-D) respectively. They're a must read. Both are available on DeviantArt.

The Heart of a Monster comic, @/the-heart-of-a-monster. It's in progress and updates regularly. Unleashed retelling, really really good with some extra lore and everyone involved.

Sometimes the Picket Fence isn’t Perfect and Sharp Edges (Sonic Prime AU) series by @/skimmingthesurfaces. I'm holding off the first one to read later, like that one book you've been saving so I'm not sure if it completely counts as an AU, still putting it in recs, and the second one is intriguing so far. I have heard a lot of good thing about the Picket Fence series.

Dark Boom by Smash50. The entirety of Team Dark in the Sonic Boom universe. Alongside it, there's also Boomtober by the same author.

It Always Snows by the 24th by Selendred had me hooked even though it's a oneshot. Great au and would love to see it explored more.

No One said I Wish by SylWritesStuff. One of my fav stories from the Sonic Platonic Fairytale Week event. It's really funny.

Sonic Phantom Forces (SPF) au comic. Sonic Forces au, blue boy gets taken away but not in the way you think, pretty cool story so far. It's in-progress and available on both Tumblr and DeviantArt. @/spfau

If Black Doom tried to be a better father by Tirainy. Don't take this one seriously. It's pure comedy and I love every second of it. Shadow is having a time for sure XD.

Silent Talkers by @brainworms-all-night-long. Takes place in the Prime Bros verse, feels intensified, all the good ones. A must read, trust me.

And speaking of the Prime Bros AU (in which all Shatterverse foxes also got adopted by Sonic and are now brothers), feel free to scroll through the 'prime bros' tag here. So many awesome posts for this particular au by everyone!

There's so many more, cool ones, epic ones. I haven't saved all and I'm probably forgetting some great ones too so I'm leaving this open for others to add. If y'all have more cool AUs, plz add to these (I wanna check em out too)

Premonition by thekiyuubivixen (not entirely an au but it feels like one due to the unique ability Sonic gains)

The Sonic Project by SconnieSA. Rated M but it's a pretty awesome AU and the rating is due to more serious themes and uncensored language in some parts. Highly recommending this one

Survivor's Resolve by DC111. Not entirely an AU but I must rec this fic it's so good and doea havs some AU vibes.

Sonic the Hedgehog: Attorney of Law by thedraconicwerewolf. Ace Attorney type AU with Sonic and Tails as main characters. Not too adventurous but very very fun and interesting and still managed to keep Sonic in character. Though it has a sequel started, I only rec the main story, not the sequal as it seems to be abandoned and isn't needed to be read like them cliffhanger stories.

beLIEve by Meow21. I have only read snippets from this, waiting for this story to continue but it seems to be discontinued. Felt like an epic story too and deserves to be recommended.

Sonic and the Golden Journey. Sonic gets thrown in another storybook, this time it's a children's classic fairytale. Short but very comedic and fun. Go read it.

Tales of a Samurai. I am begging you to read this one, please it's so good. Also by Taranea.

Wonderful and it's sequal Sanctuary by Inflamore for some Unbreakable Bond angst. (Kindly ignore the obliviousness of earlier ff.net for not knowing the meaning of certain symbols, there's nothing of the sort in story, trust me.)

Regrets by MazzyBooks. A high school au of sorts. Sonic centric with some heavy angst. I'm not kidding about the angst part, trust me. It had me hooked from the first chapter though and I believe it deserves a rec.

You need the cracks (to let the light shine through) by king.needlemouse. Istg this is the most underrated thing I've ever come across, it's one of my absolute favorite fics which I can never forget. Do read it.

Within this Nightmare by sonicfan1990. Sonic get transported to an alternate universe which has gone post apocalyptic and his counterpart in that universe has been dead. Pretty great story, lots of angst and everything.

And that's all I could remember and have saved for now. I'm leaving this open to more AU recs (yes even self plugs are welcome) so if you know any I missed, plz feel free to add. I hope you enjoy all these great AUs!

- Green Gulch (Wild West shatterspace, I wouldn’t be surprised if we get something similar in the show; Green Gulch, despite its name, has been dealing with a serious drought and water shortage, and certain outlaws aren’t exactly helping; Sonic’s gloves/shoes are designed for the rugged terrain, shoes have spurs and gloves come with their own grappling hook-esque lasso):

Anyone else ever think about what a new sonic story book game would be like? Cause I do. Arthurian legend and the Arabian Nights are amazing subjects to base a game on in general but nothing really compares to them.

There's only so many story collections you can compile to try to compare to those two, first one that comes to mind for me is robin hood, but it feels a bit to similar to the story of King Arthur, at least in time period.

For context, if you don't know the story book games there all about Sonic being magiced into different story books in order to help people and stuff. He's always summoned by a human girl with pink hair, though her role changes depending on the book; in sonic and the black night she was Merlin's granddaughter whilst in sonic and the secret rings she was a genie.

Anyway, I think putting him in robbing hood could be really cool! The pink haired girl who would be maid Marian, just cause they're always either the villan or linked to the villan and maid Marian is related to the bad King. Instead of being about "what makes a knight/hero" and the chivalry stuff, its more about mortality. With the whole "Stealing from the rich, giving to the poor" stuff it make sense. Sonic could take the good kings place but that's a bit to close to SatBK so making him robbing hood works better, not sure what super evil the the villan would have or how he'd be summoned there tho.

Another idea I had is the nutcracker, we take it a different direction where sonic is slowly turning into a tree and he has to defeat the rat king to remove the curse and leave the story. The pink girl would either be the sugar plum fairy, a sugar plum fairy or claira. I think making her a sugar plum fairy who needed protection from a rat horde works well and we could have this twist with them stopping the rat king only to learn the sugar plum fairy queen was behind the curse and now she has to be stopped. Fun little parallels we love.

Last idea is a lot roughter; just slap him into a mythos. Greek, Norce, Egyptian, Asian, etc. All of them would be really fun! Plus I could make sonic in god of war jokes! The pink girl would probably be a profet, minor goddess or magical thing. The greek one would 100% have some thing to do with the Trojan war, or the after math of it. Norce would be Ragnorock, so the good end is destroying the story which is so fun! Egyiption and Asian I know a lot lest about, but I'm thinking something to do with the death God after he first died for Egypt and riffing off of journey to the west for Asia (I know I'm lumping mythoses by saying Asia but I don't know a lot about them and there all the same content so sorry).

But yeah, heres my late night musings. I doubt well ever get a storybook game again, not overly sad about it tbh, but I just think exploring these sorts of things are fun!

i'm honestly so torn about the concept of sonic staying in camelot at the end of satbk and becoming king

on one hand: FUCK YEA!!!! sonic being treated like the king he is and deserves. he gets to fully rely on others to help him instead of doing literally everything himself (not that he never did, but he tends to put everything on his shoulders so no one else can get hurt. just an observation). also lansoni 🖤💙

but on the other hand: that's.......that's not sonic's home. he doesn't belong there, he wouldn't abandon his home, his family and friends, to be in what one would call a fairy tale. that's just not who he is

I like to think that maybe the Chao are sort of equivalent to fae. They're winged creatures whose appearance drastically change based on conditions (in their case, surrounded creatures), and most fae are deeply connected to nature, hence the need for pure water. I think the Chao have mystical qualities, if I'm recalling correctly? Or maybe that was an invention of the Archie series.

They're even depicted as fairies in SatBK lol.

SatBK Cream ?

Sorry this is late, my phone notifications were a bit buggy bc of the internet connection, so I didn't see this until I got back home just now. Cream would probably be the child of a noble and have a rather lavish lifestyle, and would meet Cheese after deciding to go for a walk in the woods one day despite being forbidden from going there. Cheese would either be similar to a fairy or other fey creature, or would be a little beast, but either way, they would instantly bond and Cream would take them home as a pet. Cream and Cheese would be out walking one day when an attack would happen, and Cheese would start fighting off whoever was there. Cream would follow them and try to instruct them on what to do, eventually dispatching the threat. After that, she would be allowed to go on adventures by whoever her guardian is, since they would now know that she was capable of defending herself with Cheese by her side

Oh, thanks! 👻 What is your wildest headcanon? I don't think any headcanons I have are too wild? Certainly, the most complicated one is Amy's backstory, which I don't want to spoil because it's part of an ongoing WIP.

I will say I think she's at least part echidna, which is a fairly common one, but it just works so well!

✍️ What’s your ideal writing setup? Some kind of desk that would allow me to sit in bed while I write because it's better for my back. Said desk would be for my second monitor to have some space so i can have my notes doc and my WIP open at the same time. A nice cup of hot cocoa, some thematically appropriate music on my speaker and the occasional roommate or friend vibing with me for helping me work through roadblocks. Also: night time with all the fairy lights in my room turned on.

🌻 How often do you read your own fics?

Fairly frequently and I'm not even ashamed about it. I write mainly for myself, and I find going back to other fics is good for inspiration.

🦋 Which character is your favorite to write?

Shadow. He's very dramatic and i like to play around with his speech patterns a lot. For example: In my fic The Point of Persuasion, Shadow doesn't use any contractions. It gives them this sort of awkwardly halting and formal tonie which is what makes them so fun to write. He's also socially inept and kind of a nerd and so... relatable

👑 Do you like writing short fics or long fics?

I like shorter fics - although all of my good ideas are really long ones. It's kind of obvious in that shadamytober fic that my comfort range is usually 1000-5000 words. I'm in AWE at your fic Hedgehogs and Privateers, it's written so well and is so intricate. I struggled a lot with The Point of Persuasion since it's by FAR my longest-ever fic. It's not going to be if I can ever finish those Boom and SATBK aus. but alas. I am but one college student who needs to eat.

Some weird rambling to start the day, or at least a though...

I personally prefer the fairies from Sonic and the Black Knight to the Wisps as small creatures independent of the typical small animals, so, if the Wisp gameplay has to stay I’d rather replace the Wisps themselves with the fairies. Sure they have a one note design, but I like them more anyway. I’m a little different that way, but oh well ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Day 4 + 17 + 10: Hidden, History, Discovery

An idea I’ve been mulling around for a while! Details and explanations below the cut!

1) Druid’s Stone: This particular rock is known by a lot of names, including hag stone, witch stone, adder stone, druid’s stone, etc., and it’s basically a rock with a natural hole in it. In folklore, they were made by the venom/saliva of snakes in a big group, usually right smack in the middle. (Pliny said it was a bunch of snakes you threw up in the air when they were connected, caught it in a cloth, and then rode over some water before they could get you.) Anyway, it’s got a lot of cool magical properties like making you immune to snake bites and venom, healing diseases, protecting you from witches and magic, and know if someone is telling the truth or not. In Welsh folklore, Percival is able to use it to see and kill this invisible creature and Yvain (another of Arthur’s knights) is able to turn invisible with it! I’m not sure when this belief originates, but it’s also known as the fairy stone, because if you look through the center, you’ll be able to see into the fae world!

2) Fae: The Fae, known by a variety of names including fey, fair folk, and fairies, are supernatural creatures with incredible powers and magical abilities, and a variable track record with people. They are very mischievous creatures who like to mess with people, sometimes playful pranks like hiding small items or tangling your hair while you sleep, sometimes dangerous and malicious ones like getting travelers lost in the woods or cursing someone who badmouthed them. Fairies are very proud and clever, so they must be treated with the utmost respect... but they have very, very complex social rules and niceties that make that really, really hard. Referring to them attracts their attention and can be rude, so people usually use euphanisms like the kind(ly) ones, good neighbors, etc. like Lancelot is doing here! Generally people tried to avoid them and protect themselves from them, such as never stepping in fairy circles (circle of mushrooms,) using charms and talismans made from iron (unnatural, they don’t like it) and rowan trees (sacred to fairies,) and not following random music you hear in the distance.

3) The Fae and Sir Lancelot: Sir Lancelot, in many Arthurian tales and tellings, is known as the Knight of the Lake because... that’s where he comes from! The Vulgate goes into most detail (that I personally know of, i could be wrong tho) on this, where basically he is taken from his mother by a young woman when he is left by the lake shore. (In Lancelot’s Mom’s defense, her kingdom was just taken over, her husband just died of a grief heart attack, and she was freaking out.) The lady picked up the baby because he was so handsome and cute, and when his mom was like “UM” she jumped into the water with him, and raised Lancelot as her son in her hidden kingdom under the lake! Is the Lady of the Lake a fairy? Well, she uses a lot of magic, lives in a kingdom hidden by magic (not as uncommon as you would think,) and seems kind of mercurial and not really understanding of human conventions... but who knows? I think she is, and in the SatBK universe that certainly seems to be the implication, so that’s what I’m rolling with for the purpose of this comic! (and my interpretation.) So... I like the idea that he’s very familiar with Fae culture. C: And that’s why he has markings that show up through the druid’s stone, because he’s not entirely mortal himself anymore. (Potentially also why Galahad has psychic powers? Hmm...)

4) Sir Lancelot’s Madness: A recurring theme in the Vulgate and Le Morte, and perhaps other Arthurian tales, is that Sir Lancelot just gets these fits of madness. He just loses his mind, runs off, and becomes a wild man in the forest for a time until his mom finds and heals him, or he snaps out of it himself. It’s usually caused by Guinevere being really mean to him, but since she’s not in SatBK and I’m not sure how I want to handle her character yet, I thought maybe it could be a fae thing. He pissed off the wrong fae and got a terrible injury for it that’s impact is primarily psychological/psychic, which can lead to these bouts of losing himself... and his memories? Perhaps paralleling Shadow’s frequent amnesia and issues with memories? Oh, I like that!! Also inspiration from unleashed and 06 with the nightmare corruption gas/fumes. Maybe mephiles is the one who hurt him? idk.

5) Fairy’s Kiss: Celtic Woman’s song Tír na nÓg ft. Oonagh is a song about the love between a regular human and an otherwordly being, and how she wants to spirit him away to Tír na nÓg, the land of the young. In Irish mythology, this is the otherworld (or at least part of it) and it is “an island paradise and supernatural realm of everlasting youth, beauty, health, abundance and joy.” (thank u wiki) A great place, but dangerous and hostile for mortals since time passes by way differently there. Anyway, one of the lines is "You bear the mark of my elven kiss" which makes it seem like an elf/fae/otherworld’s kiss has marking/protection benefits? I just think it a very sweet image that the Lady of the Lake, Nimue, kisses Lancelot on the cheek every time she sees him to reinforce the magic on him. Declaring to others “HEY! This is MY kid! You mess with him, you mess with ME!” and providing some protection to him C:

TL;DR I LOVE SATBK GAMEPLAY TOO!!

I was compelled to express my love for the game after seeing someone recently mention that it was their favorite Sonic game. I’m real happy where SatBK is loved and adored. Back then, I truly felt alone in the "Dark age" era where many people didn't like the game solely bc it had motion controls! This game made Sonic real magical to me, and I’m going to love all of it to bits and pieces.

Anyway, everyone’s already expressed their love for the story and music. Now, I wanted to showcase more of what I love about SatBK, specifically the gameplay!! I want people to know all about it! More with g i f s below the bar (also beware of flashing images)

Tangent: Speaking of sword sizes, I forget how tall Caliburn is compared to Sonic. I LOVE IT. LOOK AT THEM SIDE-BY-SIDE. I usually always forget about canon heights bc I like to make things “Sonic-sized” so that everything looks “normal” to the viewer xDD. Caliburn, you’re huge to Sonic. But normal to humans.

Of all the let’s plays I’ve seen. I’ve seen people attempting to pull off the homing attack. I can see difficult it can be. You have to press “A” (jump/homing attack) and swing at within a small window of each other in order to pull it off. It’s SUPER satisfying whenever you can pull it off. I’ve gotten the timing down p well if I do say so myself. I love this attack so much. It’s so nice to see the enemies go down C:< SONIC SLAYIN’

LOOK AT HIM GO, GO, GO!! That wind swirling and spiraling behind him to keep up with his momentum. UGH. I can hear the sound through this gif. Sonic Team truly captured the beauty that is...the KNIGHT OF THE WIND, LET’S GOOOOOOOOO!!

S O U L S U R G E is an aesthetic!! Love how time slows in the gameplay and the surrounding area is a blur as Sonic zips around. Sonic practically becomes a blur as he ZOOMS from one enemy to the next too. The gif doesn’t perfectly depict everything, BUT MAAAAN. Seeing him zip at the same time you swing your Wiimote, UGGGH, brings satisfaction that you’ve killed an enemy! And the SFX just made it feel like I was whirring with him. The CLANG/DING when you perform a perfect surge too AGH. ugghdhdjsjsj THAT RED SLASH ACROSS THE SCREEN WHEN YOU PERFORM A PERFECT SURGE TOO.

Also Merlina getting wrecked by perfect Soul Surges. MMMMMM

Swinging a wii-mote is fun yall. My wrist and my arms may be jelly, but this game is hella worth it. Fell in love with this game day 1.

THE PRINCE. (headcanons)

his real name is Prince Julius the Second, named after his late father King Julius

he prefers to go by Sonic however, often disguising himself and going by a different name in order to mingle amongst commoners to avoid being recognized

his father died through taking a fatal wound to the chest in wide scale battle against an opposing kingdom when prince sonic was only a young child

because of this Queen Bernadette became extremely protective and controlling of prince sonic in her grief and as a result, the prince is quite sheltered and naive of the world

he’s basically like repunzel from tangled

this controlling behavior also led prince sonic to become very secretive and sneaky of his antics, and increasingly rebellious as he gets older

prince sonic often times sneaks out of his room at night to mingle with commoners and to get away from his guards / knights

has undergone rigorous training as insisted by his mother to insure that if all else fails, prince sonic will be able to defend himself. this makes him a skilled swordsmen. however he’s never had the opportunity to actually use his skills in a serious situation do to being so sheltered

prince sonic has a very naive and rose tinted view of the world, having not been able to get to see it and only knowing what he’s read in story books and fairy tales.

he cares little for his status and wealth and actively resents it due to how different he is treated by basically everyone and how unfair it seems. he’s very prone to just giving away his valuables and riches to strangers who he thinks need it, having little concept for how money works in the world. much to his mother’s disapproval.

due to his upbringing, he has a rather entitled mindset. he’s not really one to throw tantrums if he doesn’t get his way, but he will be visibly upset even if he accepts no for an answer. he lives a very privileged life and has never had to work for it, so he’s just used to things just being given to him.

despite that however, prince sonic is still very kind and compassionate at heart. he loves people and is very good to his subjects and those lower in social status. his father raised him to be a kind ruler before he passed, and sonic has since carried on those characteristics in honor of the late king’s compassionate legacy.

similarly to his game canon counterpart, prince sonic is fast ! but not nearly as fast as game sonic. (though it can depend on the verse). at the very least, he’s very swift and agile on his feet and exceedingly crafty with getting the upper hand on people. there’s been many times where he’s beaten even the strongest of knights in his court due to his clever and quick thinking.

thats basically all i got for him for now. these headcanons can vary depending on what verse i’m writing him in, but this is the general consensus for prince sonic ! i’ll probably think of more for him later. definitely expect a SATBK verse for him at some point.
