It's autumn, do you still have the right pyjamas?
As a home essential, pyjamas come first in terms of comfort, without the feeling of constraint, which makes it easier to relax and get to sleep quickly, so have you chosen your pyjamas?
At the beginning of the 20th century, pyjamas were as pretentious as any other type of clothing, whether they were women's pyjamas, couples' pyjamas, boudoir robes or tea robes, all of which were beautifully and intricately decorated with draping and layered wear, while neglecting practicality. During this period, pyjamas were all luxurious silk and velvet bespoke garments, the possessions of the upper classes.
The advent of one world war made the nightgown less baggy and brought about a more masculine and simple style. The post-war economy saw a boom in tourism in Europe and the United States, so much so that clothing shops began making sleeping bags, bedspreads, pillows and bed linen to go with the women's pyjamas, leading to a fashionable range of bedrooms. At the same time, because of the demands of the tourist lifestyle, pyjamas became increasingly lighter in style.
With the start of World War II in the late 1930s, nightlife died out, so there was little demand for high-end women's pyjamas. What was needed at this time was ready-made, easy-to-wear clothing.
The end of World War II in 1945 brought economic recovery, song and dance, and beautiful feminine pyjamas were back in fashion.
By the 1950s, like other women's lingerie, pyjamas became mainstream.
In the 1960s, as the commodity economy grew by leaps and bounds, women's lingerie and nightwear were widely available in shops as ready-to-wear at reasonable prices, and pyjamas and lingerie came into every woman's wardrobe.
After the 1970s, pure nylon pyjamas became obsolete as cotton and nylon blends, such as polyester, became increasingly popular. High-end pyjamas appeared in silk, cotton, wool and cotton blends, and the colour palette shifted from the subdued colours of the past to the strong colours of the late 1980s, with luxurious tastes leading to higher prices.
The 1990s was a period of more modern values and functions, and this new passion was a complement to the family life that was becoming increasingly prevalent around the world. Advances in technology and the downsizing of corporate staff allowed women to establish their own businesses and work from home in addition to staying at home with their children. The pyjama market has expanded to include the category of what people wear when they come home, not necessarily only when they go to bed, and in this situation the concept of loungewear has been added to the pyjama collection. In addition to fashion, people are also very concerned about what they wear at home and loungewear has long gone beyond the basic need to be worn just for the sake of it.
