I watched the One Piece live action and here are some notes I took.
I'm a huge One Piece fan since I was like 10-ish? And so, I have a lot of thoughts and feelings about it. It had a lot of impact on my personality (Nico Robin is my role model). This live action adaptation matters to me and I'm going to rant. Spoilers ahead.
The director is a woman, and one of the two writers is a woman. Manga and anime are male dominated hobby (and the comic's world is sexist), so the live action of the most popular shōnen being run by women is so great, imo. Also, it's pretty successful, in contrary to other attempts, so it's a win for women.
Garp's actor is a very handsome man. Wtf, they made Garp hot. He also has a beautiful Welsh accent, which is great because it's an accent that gives a "tough guy" impression. At least, it does for me.
Luffy's actor is perfect. This Luffy is slightly different from the original one, but he's perfect in his own way. I will die and kill for him. Also, him being brown with a white grandpa is so good, it had a racial gap between the two of them, where there are already a generational one and a moral one. Like, the white grandpa in the army do not understand how his brown grandson do not like the gov, because he doesn't see it from where he is when the kid does.
Alvida's actress is so beautiful, she's so pretty. I suddenly support women's wrongs.
Damn, the violence is going up a notch (Roger executed on screen, Mr 7's body cut in half, MERRY IS FUCKING KILLED,...)
The actors for Koby and Helmeppo are queer (They/Them pals) Oda is, once again, showing his support to the trans community.
I do not like the colors. It's too dark for One Piece, imo. Look at how saturated the colored pages are, I would have preferred it to be more saturated. I know, this is because of the CGI (issues are less perceptible this way), I'm going to need to make some edits. But, they didn't have to do it to the costumes too. Like, Buggy, except from his hat, his outfit is not flashy like it should be. Would help with the colored hair if it was more colorful and flashy.
Young Luffy wear the same shirt as in the manga is a nice touch.
THERE'S A CAVENDISH'S WANTED POSTER IN SHELLS TOWN!
Dead bodies smell strongly, and Zoro is bringing half of one in a bar???
Episode 2 is pure art. I love it so much.
Buggy is attractive, wtf. I find him more pretty than Shanks.
Bogard is so cool looking. I'm gonna die if Hina is introduced one day (she's going to be so cool)
They changed the "If you’re gonna point your gun toward someone, you better use it" scene. The new one is cool, but the original is iconic.
THE MUSIC WHEN LUFFY REALIZES THAT SHANKS LOST HIS ARM! It's like the orchestra is interrupted, incredible, love it.
Nami and Zoro's siblings' energy is so strong.
Kaya and Nami interraction about the dress "it belonged to my mother" is so good, Nami gets uncomfortable because she also lost her mother and knows how it is to cherish her memory. But Kaya is nice and share it with her, which break her view of rich folks.
The decor's department must have had the time of their life for this show. It's a great job.
Zoro wanting to wear black and drink wine in the 3 episode, he's already embodying being Mihawk's adopted brat.
Kaya makes the oof roblox sounds when she slapped Usopp.
Usopp x Kaya let's gooooooooooo my boy deserves the best (Oda confirming a romance with one of his protagonists is huge)
Zoro IMMEDIATELY trying to look at something else the moment Kaya kisses Usopp.
Luffy sitting on Going Merry with "We Are" playing... Art.
Without a cook, they are eating pasta, with some fruit and drink (just like me, fr).
Garp is wrecking a brand new ship!
Episode 5 Title Card, my beloved.
Mihawk music, and voice, and character: beautiful.
"Oh, I do like your hat." Mihawk to Luffy upon meeting him, great.
Sanji needs to stop talking about food, I'm getting hungry but I'm broke and a terrible cook.
"Oregano is for savages!" 😂 ok kiddo.
Me watching Zoro nap for a whole episode because of 1 cut: "Bro, you’re going to go through so much worse, you better stop whining rn"
The "YES, YES WE DO" after Sanji says "heard you guys need a cook" is so good.
Sanji is, like, the only one after Nami to have the most experience sailing, they fucking need him.
Buggy coming back all the time is perfect. Love him.
Having Bell-Mere slaps Nami was not ok. Y'all are ruining a character I loved.
Sanji knows a man that can cook well is attractive.
Usopp and Luffy are 17 and drinking, and Koby is 16. Underage drinking baby 🍻
Garp is already having the crisis he has during Marine Fort Arc, it’s going to be difficult for him.
Buggy be swinging being carried by Sanji, who's fighting.
Luffy breaking Arlong's sword axe thingy is badass.
The fishmen are so ugly and weird looking
Buggy saying "I'm gonna get out of here" with 🖕🤡🖕(If we ever get young Ace, I expect so much vulgarity from his little shit mouth)
Usopp exploding star was badass.
Sanji's ass after Mouton Shot.
Zoro "Yeah, you're gonna fit in just fine" means you're as crazy as all of us
Sanji opening is arms for Nami and Nami ignoring him to hug her bros, lol.
Arlong Park destruction be crazy.
Sanji little laugh.
Luffy is a true bestie to Usopp.
It’s the confrontation from after Seven Arc
It's Logue town after right? Like, where Luffy's father is introduced? With the comparison to Roger? But they just compared them, are they going to do it again?
The wanted poster is the exact same, with usopp in the background.
Employee of the month lol.
Alvida and Buggy meeting, the bad bitches.
Mihawk and Shanks!!! (Shanks gave him the "ableist pos" look, lol)
Smoker introduced -> Logue Town

i love your posts but you're really annoying sometimes
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (Japanese: ジョジョの奇妙な冒険, Hepburn: JoJo no Kimyō na Bōken) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Hirohiko Araki. It was originally serialized in Shueisha's shōnen manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump from 1987 to 2004, and was transferred to the monthly seinen manga magazine Ultra Jump in 2005. The series is divided into nine story arcs, each following a new protagonist bearing the "JoJo" nickname. JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is Shueisha's largest ongoing manga series by volume count, with its chapters collected in 130 tankōbon volumes as of May 2021.
A 13-episode original video animation series adapting the manga's third part, Stardust Crusaders, was produced by A.P.P.P. and released from 1993 to 2002. The studio later produced an anime film adapting the first part, Phantom Blood, which was released in theaters in Japan in 2007. In October 2012, an anime television series produced by David Production adapting Phantom Blood and Battle Tendency began broadcast on Tokyo MX. As of December 2021, the studio has produced five seasons adapting through the manga's sixth part, Stone Ocean. A live-action film based on the fourth part, Diamond Is Unbreakable, was released in Japan in 2017.
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is well-known for its art style and poses; frequent references to Western popular music and fashion; and battles centered around Stands, psycho-spiritual manifestations with unique supernatural abilities. The series had over 120 million copies in circulation as of December 2021, making it one of the best-selling manga series in history, and it has spawned a media franchise including one-shot manga, light novels, and video games. The manga, TV anime, and live-action film are licensed in North America by Viz Media, which has produced various English-language releases of the series since 2005.

List of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure characters
The universe of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is a reflection of the real world with the added existence of supernatural forces and beings. In this setting, some people are capable of transforming their inner spiritual power into a Stand (スタンド, Sutando); another significant form of energy is Hamon (波紋, "Ripple"), a martial arts technique that allows its user to focus bodily energy into sunlight via controlled breathing. The narrative of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is split into parts with independent stories and different characters. Each of the series' protagonists is a member of the Joestar family, whose mainline descendants possess a star-shaped birthmark above their left shoulder blade and a name that can be abbreviated to the titular "JoJo". The first six parts take place within a single continuity whose generational conflict stems from the rivalry between Jonathan Joestar and Dio Brando, while the latter two parts take place in an alternate universe where the Joestar family tree is heavily altered.
Part 1: Phantom Blood (ファントムブラッド, Fantomu Buraddo)
Volumes 1–5, 44 chapters. In late 19th-century England, Jonathan Joestar, the young son of a wealthy landowner, meets his new adopted brother Dio Brando, who loathes him and plans to usurp him as heir to the Joestar family. When Dio's attempts are thwarted, he transforms himself into a vampire using an ancient Stone Mask and destroys the Joestar estate. Jonathan embarks on a journey, meets new allies, and masters the Hamon (波紋, "Ripple") martial arts technique to stop Dio, who has made world domination his new goal.
Part 2: Battle Tendency (戦闘潮流, Sentō Chōryū)
Volumes 5–12, 69 chapters. In 1938, a German expedition discovers and awakens a Pillar Man, a powerful humanoid whose race created the Stone Mask. The Pillar Man kills the researchers and escapes to awaken the other Pillar Men so that they may regain dominance over humanity by obtaining the Red Stone of Aja. Joseph Joestar, Jonathan's grandson, unites with new allies and masters Hamon to defeat the Pillar Men.
Part 3: Stardust Crusaders (スターダストクルセイダース, Sutādasuto Kuruseidāsu)
Volumes 13–28, 152 chapters. In 1989, Dio Brando (now referred to as "DIO") awakens after his tomb is salvaged from the ocean. Because Dio had managed to capture Jonathan's body, Stands (スタンド, Sutando) awaken in Jonathan's descendants, consisting of Joseph, his daughter Holly Kujo, and grandson Jotaro Kujo. Holly, however, is unable to cope with her own Stand, and has only 50 days to live. Jotaro, Joseph, and their new allies set out to defeat Dio before this deadline expires, and encounter Dio's henchmen along the way.
Part 4: Diamond Is Unbreakable (ダイヤモンドは砕けない, Daiyamondo wa Kudakenai)
Volumes 29–47, 174 chapters. In 1999, the Joestar family learns that Joseph has an illegitimate son, Josuke Higashikata, who lives in the fictional Japanese town of Morioh. Josuke learns of a mystical Bow and Arrow that bestows Stands upon those struck by its arrowheads. As they hunt down the Bow and Arrow, Josuke and his allies encounter a serious threat in the form of the Stand-using serial killer Yoshikage Kira.
Part 5: Golden Wind (黄金の風, Ōgon no Kaze)
Volumes 47–63, 155 chapters. In 2001, in Naples, Italy, Giorno Giovanna is the son of Dio, conceived while he was in possession of Jonathan Joestar's body. Giorno seeks to become a mafia boss in order to eliminate drug dealers who sell their wares to children. His team, which consists of Stand users, must confront the mafia boss Diavolo and protect his daughter Trish Una, whom Diavolo intends to kill in order to hide his identity.
Part 6: Stone Ocean (ストーンオーシャン, Sutōn Ōshan)
Volumes 64–80, 158 chapters. In 2011, near Port St. Lucie, Florida, Jotaro Kujo's daughter Jolyne Cujoh is framed for murder and sent to prison. She works together with other Stand-using prisoners and her father to hunt down prison chaplain Father Enrico Pucci, loyalist to Dio, who seeks the creation of a new universe shaped to his and Dio's will.
Part 7: Steel Ball Run (スティール・ボール・ラン, Sutīru Bōru Ran)
Volumes 81–104, 95 chapters. In an alternate timeline's 1890, United States President Funny Valentine holds a cross-country horse race with a $50 million reward to the winner. Valentine intends to use the race to gather the scattered parts of a holy corpse for his own nationalistic ends. Racers Gyro Zeppeli and Johnny Joestar uncover Valentine's ploy and must defend themselves from his hired assassins.
Part 8: JoJolion (ジョジョリオン, Jojorion)
Volumes 105–131, 110 chapters. Set in the same universe as Steel Ball Run, in 2012, the town of Morioh has been devastated by the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami, which has caused mysterious faults colloquially known as the "Wall Eyes" to appear in town. Local college student Yasuho Hirose discovers a young man buried in the rubble and nicknames him "Josuke". Suffering from amnesia, Josuke tries to uncover the secret of his past as he is also confronted with the activities of a local crime syndicate, which sells the fruit of a mysterious Locacaca tree, capable of healing people and then "taking" something in return.
Part 9: JOJOLANDS (ジョジョランズ, Jojoranzu) (Tentative title)
In the September 2021 issue of Ultra Jump, Araki confirmed that part 9 of the series, tentatively titled JOJOLANDS, would begin following a short break.

Why do you think yellow is pathetic?
Also she's a pokedex holder as well, but is like 3-4 years younger than green, red, and blue
oké so I haven't read pokéspe in a few years so I'm just going off of half-remembered vibes rather than concrete details/characterisation
Red, Green and Blue have the vibes of typical teenage protagonists. whereas Yellow definitely has a more child-like energy. not a bad thing if they literally are a child (but it would've been a little pathetic if they were a teen too (as a character in a shōnen)) also note that it's completely valid for characters to be pathetic (see : cinnamon rolls and meow meows)
so it's not that I think Yellow is a bad character. I just didn't enjoy Yellow and wouldn't ship them with Green

Accel World: The Portray of insecurities
Tumblr media
About the Production:
Accel World (アクセル•ワールド), written by Reki Kawahara, is a light novel released in 2009, part of the is a Shōnen demographic, that became adapted to manga in 2010, and then into an anime in 2012, under the production of Sunrise. It also has a movie called “Accel World: Infinite ∞Burst” released in 2016 and some video game adaptations, because of the nature of the series.
Tumblr media
Conflict of the story:
The story talks about a highschool student, who is bullied by other students, this impacts on his self-esteem and his confidence. So instead of trying to fight back and resolve his problems. He decides to use the virtual world of video games as an escape from reality.
But his life will change dramatically, when he is challenged by a mysterious person in his own new world. His life is shattered again, now he doesn't feel comfortable anywhere. That situation pushes him to meet the mysterious challenger, who will introduce him to a life changing video game. Which will allow him to understand the world in a different way.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Comments about insecurities:
So now we know the basics about the series, but what does it have to do with insecurities, which is the main topic of this text. Well, in the special video game mentioned before there is a distinctive mechanic, and it's called the “Incarnate System”. This mechanic allows you to rewrite, in some way, the laws of the game. The problem with this feature is that it's powered by the fears, insecurities and traumas of the player.
In fact, in this video game you don't create your own character, the game itself creates it based on your entire personality. So in general, the game itself is a reflection of your subconsciousness.
But, back to this mechanic, to obtain this boost, you need to overcome these fears, and then this will materialize into your new ability. The metaphor is so explicit, it's literally the game giving you weapons to fight your demons, and being able to recover from those traumatic past experiences.
Examples:
Tumblr media
First, we have the protagonist, Haruyuki Arita (Silver Crow, in-game), who suffers from bullying because of his physical appearance. So in the game his avatar is slim and athletic, because of his insecurities, and he got wings, to escape from his horrible life.
His incarnate system is a energy sword created on the tip of his fingers, and it's powered because of the fear of not being able to defend his mentor, the one who introduces him to the game, with whom he is also in love. All of this happens after he is defeated, and his wings are stealed, which also motivates this impotence.
Tumblr media
And second we have Takumu Mayuzumi (Cyan Pile, in-game), his character is a robust knight with a helmet similar to a kendo helmet, which is the discipline that he practices in real life, and leads to the traumatic experience that haunts him. His normal weapon is a drill/spear connected to his arm. In this game, the characters that are blue are related to close combat, but his weapon allows him to reach far distances. This is a reflection of his traumas.
His incarnate system is a longsword, it's different to the most common ones, because this one is solid, and the rest are made of light. This is related to a kendo combat that he had when he was younger, and leaves him a scar on his neck. So this weapon is a direct representation of this discipline, so is given to him to have another chance to fight.
Tumblr media
Lesson:
The anime portrays in an exciting way, with the help of the thrilling combats and cool characters, the insecurities and the fears of a human being and it’s so impactful because they are teenagers. So it develops a complex message, behind this superficial anime based on this fictional video game, and it’s a call out to fight your problems. In the entire anime we can see how they have to eventually face their problems. And it’s the main plot of it, the journey to overcome adversities and grow as a person, and I think it's a necessary process in everyone's life.

He is one of the most talented ninja in the village, renowned as a genius and as an exceptionally powerful shinobi. Kakashi's most prized possession is his Sharingan, which he stole from his friend and rival, Obito Uchiha.

So,they are the best characters and if you wanna get naruto app icons then you can get ahead that link.
Is naruto worth watching in 2022?
Whether or not it is worth watching Naruto comes down to personal preference. The series has been around for over a decade, so there is a lot of content to watch. The story follows Naruto Uzumaki, a young ninja who aspires to become Hokage, the leader of his village. The anime adaptation of the series began airing in Japan in 2002, and it follows the same storyline until 2007. The anime created a following that became part of popular culture. There are also several video games that follow this series, which include fighting games and role-playing games. Naruto is an excellent example of presenting Japanese art to the world, since there are manga series as well as movies for fans to enjoy.
The most popular characters from the Naruto universe are Kakashi Hatake, Sasuke Uchiha, Naruto Uzumaki and Sakura Haruno. All four main characters eventually become jōnin-level shinobi by the end of the story. Out of all these characters, Kakashi takes first place as one of the best protagonist in the entire anime series. He was able to make quick decisions in the heat of the moment, and he always had a plan to get out of difficult situations. Naruto Uzumaki is one of the most loved characters in the anime world, due to his personality and his determination. Sakura Haruno was able to show her growth as a character since she started as a weak girl who wanted to be saved all the time. Lastly, Sasuke Uchiha was able to redeem himself by choosing love over revenge. The series finale showed how much he had changed over time.

I'm like halfway through and it has all of my most loved tropes: the "magic" school, hero starts off out at The underside and will make his up for being the most effective, etcetera. The rationale I explained the very first year was rubbish isn't essentially because of the plot, but extra in the poor execution In regards to Tale telling. Naruto vs Goku
Tumblr media
Goku and Naruto are two incredibly powerful characters, each with an array of abilities and techniques. But who would win if the two fought? In all of anime and manga, Goku and Naruto are two of the most well-known and respected protagonists. The two heroes have long been the headliners of classic shōnen. Goku is a powerful alien who has defended Earth on several occasions while Naruto grows into a mighty ninja as he travels. 🐱‍👤 Fans of the two characters have long argued over who would win in a fight between the two. Dragon Ball and Naruto both continued for years. Fans loved seeing Goku and Naruto grow upfrom childhood to adulthood, evolving over their different adventures. The two have trained for years to become the best warriors in their respective universes. Both characters have saved the world multiple times, but what would be the outcome if they could somehow fight each other?
Naruto became a great ninja
Tumblr media
In his youth, Naruto was revealed to be an orphan neglected by all. He was the weakest ninja in his class and failed to learn even the most basic techniques. His inability to produce clones was particularly severe. Naruto will improve his skills over the years. After many studies and training, he was finally recognized as the greatest ninja in the village and even became the chief of his village, the Hokage . He often shows his ability to grow during a fight, strategizing as he fights and adjusting to the situation.
Goku has incredible physical strength
Tumblr media
Goku has never been the smartest character and he's well documented to be a bad student even as an adult. Although he is not incredibly intelligent, he is dedicated to his martial arts studies. Although Goku is getting stronger , he does not improve his intellect. When pushed to his limits, he will usually train a bit more, so he usually tries to get more powerful instead of dealing with strategy. Although Goku is powerful, he rarely applies an optimal strategy to a situation.
Naruto has his Konoha allies
Tumblr media
One of Naruto's greatest assets are his allies. There are a lot of people who support Naruto in a fight. Shikamaru strategizes. ♟ Sakura has the ability to heal Naruto . Sasuke has roughly the same potency as Naruto and has jutsu that complement each other well. Naruto is incredibly powerful on his own, and his allies only add strength and determination to this great ninja. Being able to count on your friends is an important and recurring theme in Naruto and his friendship with Sasuke is what redeems the character in the end, proving the importance of friendship.
Goku has the dragon team
Tumblr media
Goku also has a lot of backing allies. His best friend, Krillin, has trained and fought alongside him since they were children. Although their relationship started off a bit chaotically, they ended up forming a strong friendship . People like Bulma, Ten, Piccolo, and Vegeta all fight alongside Goku. While they each have their own strengths, they don't seem to add anything to Goku's abilities as a fighter. The group is not as close-knit and tight-knit as Naruto's friends .
Naruto knows a lot about Jutsu
Tumblr media
Naruto has a lot of jutsu to rely on in a fight. He usually relies on ninjutsu , but he also has incredible taijutsu abilities . From childhood to adulthood, he greatly improved his skills. As an adult, his abilities can overpower any opponent.  Its enormous reserves of chakras are also useful in combat. He can turn all that energy into ninjutsu attacks. His abilities have helped him overcome any challenges that have been thrown at him. 🏅
Goku is an expert in melee combat
Tumblr media
Goku typically relies on hand-to-hand combat in a fight. He couldn't rely on jutsu, although he had the power of ki on his side. Do you want to learn more about the universe of Dragon Ball? So we strongly advise you to visit the Goku Shop site . Goku also possesses the ability to fly , a power unseen in Naruto. In a fight, Goku would use ki-based attacks while relying on his martial art skills. Goku has trained in combat since he was a child, and his fighting skills have been the subject of intense training.
Naruto knows the Rasengan
Tumblr media
The Rasengan is Naruto's signature movement. Jutsu was developed by the Fourth Hokage and it took him three years to come up with it. Young Uzumaki learned of this attack from Master Jiraiya. Naruto trained a lot to master the Rasengan , which he only managed to execute by combining it with his clones. 🌀 Naruto was a child when he managed to successfully execute his first Rasengan. His mastery of this jutsu has grown over the years. Naruto even managed to give the jutsu its own style by creating the Rasenshuriken. The Rasengan and Rasenshuriken do not need hand signals, which makes them an asset in a fight.
Goku owns the Kamehameha
Tumblr media
Goku learned Kamehameha from his creator, Master Roshi. Kamehameha is Goku's signature and is taught to all of Master Roshi's students. The Attack is the first energy attack featured in the Dragon Ball series. Master Roshi spent decades studying martial arts before succeeding in creating Kamehameha. After seeing Master Roshi execute the attack, Goku quickly mastered the attack by executing it on the first try. The downside to Kamehameha is that it takes time to charge the attack.
Naruto knows Hermit Mode
Tumblr media
Hermit Mode is a special state that few shinobi are able to achieve. The only way to achieve Hermit Mode is to combine a person's chakra with the energy of nature that exists in the world around them. The ability to reach Hermit Mode grants a person access to many new abilities. To achieve hermit mode, a person must have a lot of chakras. Hermit Mode can be learned from the Toads of Mount Myoboku or the Snakes of Ryuchi Cave. 🐍 Naruto used hermit mode several times in battle and defeated bread thanks to him.
Goku is a Super Saiyan
Tumblr media
The Super Saiyan is a genetic ability transmitted from the Saiyan race. The ability to access this power is considered rare and is defined by a transformation, including making the hair blonde and the eyes blue. 👱🏻‍♂️ After a thousand years where no one has achieved power status, this ability has only become a legend. Frieza decided to destroy the Saiyan home planet, fearing the legend was real. The ability turned out to be real when Goku achieved Super Saiyan status during his fight with Freeza.
Winner: Naruto

Naruto has shown a better ability to strategize in a fight. He has allies who would give him serious support in a fight. He can quickly raise an army in a second or unleash a series of Rasengan. Once in Sage Mode, he can unlock even more abilities. Goku has proven himself to be a very good fighter and for sure the fight would be tight, in sheer power, Goku is even more powerful than Naruto. The two characters hate losing and would no doubt become friends quickly if they weren't forced to fight. However, Naruto has proven himse Read the full article

Hello! This is just me being curious and i dunno if this has been asked or said already or pointed it out, but who is your most #1 favorite character in bnha, if you had to choose one (and why)? Also, i love your bnha fic so much. You're such a talented and dedicated writer. I wish i could tell you how much every update made my day and week. Thank you so much for your work, i really am grateful for them. Looking forward to many more of them if you ever get more ideas (you're very creative!)
First off, thank you for sending a question my way at all and reading my fics! That means the world to me as a writer to know that people are enjoying these silly crazy ideas. You’re far too kind, Anon. It just warms my soul.
I’m really horrible at taking compliments but trust me I’m so flustered I can barely type this without turning redder than the freaking sun.
ANYWAY.
Alright. Hm.
Well, I haven’t explicitly stated who my favorite character is in BNHA. I mean, it’s a bit obvious if you kind of pay attention with how much I talk about Katsuki Bakugou and Izuku Midoriya.
Izuku Midoriya is, in fact, my favorite character in BNHA.
By a landslide.
Oh, Anon.
You want to know why Izuku is my favorite character?
*Cracks knuckles.*
You asked for it.
This isn’t going to be that long of a response or explanation as to why I love Izuku so much, since I’m sure there are plenty of other blog posts stating why he’s such a beloved and adored character.
I’ll be honest though. Going into this anime, I wasn’t sure if I was going to like him at all. But, I also wasn’t sure if I was going to enjoy the anime, period.
When it comes to anime, movies, books, whatever, I must be attached to the characters. I must have a connection of some kind to the people involved. Otherwise, in my mind, there is no point in watching. Perhaps that’s the introspective part of my personality and brain that causes this judgment, but nevertheless, that’s how it is for me as a viewer.
No matter how polished the story is, and no matter how incredible or monumental the themes are (with a few choice exceptions depending on the genre), I will not find the work enjoyable if the characters are paper-thin pieces of blank shit that can be swapped for just about any cut-and-paste personality.
So, let’s get back to Izuku.
For one thing, hats off to the mangaka for completely flipping over my expectations of what Izuku was going to be like.
From what I gathered from this show, I was concerned it was going to follow the roots of Naruto with its central character (and before you ask, no, I actually don’t hate Naruto at all; I respect it quite a bit). That story and that protagonist work really well together, but
Izuku’s flaws, dreams, and expectations are so welcoming and human in this type of shōnen manga/anime that it’s almost impossible not to feel connected to him.
Also, he’s a character that, while having a good heart, never makes excuses for those who do wrong and those who have done wrong to him, making his flaws and strengths equally consistent and believable.
I also tend to be very drawn to characters who, as I mentioned before, have consistent flaws and strengths that play off of each other and are unique to each situation and life experience. In addition to that, Izuku’s journey to acquiring his Quirk is one of the most pleasant things I loved about the first season of BNHA.
Let me emphasize this next one because it’s a huge point that should be taken more seriously in general in the world of storytelling.
One of the worst and most non-relatable traits in a protagonist of any kind - whether it be from a manga, anime, television show, book, or film - is the trait of being gifted with the ultimate power or blessing with no hard work put into the experience whatsoever.
This is, unfortunately, a very prevalent trope in shōnen manga and anime.
In a show about superheroes and where the main protagonist, who is quickly deemed as “powerless/Quirkless,” receives a powerful Quirk from his childhood idol, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I was worried that Izuku was going to be subjected to this trope and acquire the ability.
But. Again. Hats off to the mangaka. He took this trope and subverted it.
Izuku Midoriya not only has to slave off for months and months to acquire the strength he needs to successfully harness his passed-down Quirk, but needs to learn how to control it afterwards as well.
(This trope is also subverted in Hunter X Hunter. I would gladly compare them, but perhaps that’ll be another deconstruction/analysis/whatever these are).
This is, thankfully, applicable to the rules of every other Quirk in this show because, really, the attention and care put into building the Quirk system and how it relates to each character is a strength in the writing and development of the overall anime/manga.
My favorite part about Izuku’s relations to his Quirk?
Well.
I find Izuku - and how he uses his Quirk - to be incredibly relatable because of his core personality. Again, I’m impressed that his flaws are actually given attention and not discarded for the sake of plot.
I’m relieved and overjoyed that when the story shows him as a hopeless fanboy and nerd, that it’s actually believable with evidence in the character’s actions, dialogue, and personality.
He’s a crybaby, and it’s obvious to everyone around him.
He lacks an enormous amount of self-preservation and this ties into his lack of understanding that him discarding his safety to activate his Quirk is not going to help him in the long run (and this ties into his personality on top of it).
He’s too forgiving. Honestly, Izuku would, ideologically, be angrier, be more distressed, but his character is very human in its complexity and we are able to connect to the idea that, while he does admit his pain and faults, he’s willing to focus on the greater outcome and pursue that instead.
Izuku can be a bit of a coward, and incredibly reckless on top of it. While this is a bit ironic, given his role in the story, it’s made fairly obvious that Izuku’s stubbornness and incredibly kind heart outweigh his cowardliness and actually promote his recklessness and desire to protect people as a result.
But, there are particular reasons why I listed Izuku’s flaws like this. Flaws and strengths balance each other. They reflect each other.
Personalities and emotions are far too complex to be shown through diagrams and bar charts, but, we can deduce from the evidence provided in the anime and manga that these are some of Izuku’s most primary flaws.
Now, think about this: in the world of manga, in the world of superheroes, are these the flaws you would normally admit to being drawn to in a character?
Lacking self-preservation? Being a crybaby? Being a nerdy little fanboy? Being too forgiving and thinking twice on the concept of revenge? Being a bit of a coward and being, at times, a bit too optimistic?
I’ll be honest with you about this.
When it came to the “crybaby/fanboy/nerd” aspect in particular, no, I would never be drawn to characters like this.
Most of the time I resented them for glorifying and romanticizing the aspects of a character that are considered almost the constant end of a joke in poor taste.
But the way Izuku is written, the way he carries himself and actually acknowledges his flaws as both strengths and weaknesses not only make him an impressive shōnen protagonist character, but a human one as well.
It makes it incredibly easy to root for him, to become attached to him, because his struggles, his heart, his mind - while not the ideal mindset of a superhero - are wholeheartedly, unequivocally, human.
Ah. I need to stop with how long these are. Jesus Christ.
This is a bit abrupt but I definitely got carried away with this. I could go on for hours on my favorite characters because I put so much time and energy into thinking about them, and I guess that’s a bit unhealthy? But, eh. Whatever.
Um. So. My bad, Anon. But, there’s your answer! :D Thanks so much for the question!

Son Goku (Japanese: 孫悟空, Hepburn: Son Gokū) (/ˈɡoʊ.kuː, ɡoʊˈkuː/) is a fictional character and main protagonist of the Dragon Ball manga series created by Akira Toriyama. He is based on Sun Wukong, a main character in the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West. His origin story also shares some similarities with that of Superman.[1] Goku first made his debut in Dragon Ball chapter #1 Bulma and Son Goku (ブルマと孫悟空, Buruma to Son Gokū), originally published in Japan's Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine on June 19, 1984,[2] as an eccentric, monkey-tailed boy who practices martial arts and possesses superhuman strength. He meets Bulma and joins her on a journey to find the wish-granting Dragon Balls. Along the way, he finds new friends who follow him on his journey.
Initially believed to have been born on Earth, Goku later learns that he is a member of an extraterrestrial warrior race called the Saiyans, which is also the reason for his superhuman strength, and his birth name is Kakarot (カカロット, Kakarotto). As Goku grows up, he becomes the Earth's mightiest warrior and protects his adopted home planet from those who seek to destroy it. Goku is depicted as carefree and cheerful when at ease, but quickly serious and strategic-minded when in battle and also enthusiastic to fight. He is able to concentrate his Ki and use it for devastatingly powerful energy-based attacks; the most prominent being his signature Kamehameha (かめはめ波), in which Goku launches a blue energy blast from his palms. Also pure of heart, Goku has frequently granted mercy to his enemies, which has often earned him additional allies in the process (though has also resulted in others taking advantage of his kindness), and he is one of the few who can ride the magic cloud called Kinto'un (筋斗雲, lit. "Somersault Cloud", renamed "Flying Nimbus" in Funimation's dub), which was another element adapted from Journey to the West.[3]
As the protagonist, Goku appears in most of the episodes, films, television specials and OVAs of the manga's anime adaptations (Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball GT, Dragon Ball Super and Dragon Ball Heroes) as well as many of the franchise's video games. Due to the series' international popularity, Goku has become one of the most recognizable and iconic characters in the world. Outside the Dragon Ball franchise, Goku has made cameo appearances in Toriyama's self-parody series Neko Majin Z, has been the subject of other parodies, and has appeared in special events. Most Western audiences were introduced to the adult version of Goku appearing in the Dragon Ball Z anime, itself an adaptation of Dragon Ball manga volumes 17-42, as opposed to his initial child form, due to the limited success of the first series overseas.[4] Goku's critical reception has been largely positive and he is often considered to be one of the greatest manga and anime characters of all time.

Anyways,
Bulma (Japanese: ブルマ, Hepburn: Buruma) is a fictional character in the Dragon Ball manga series created by Akira Toriyama. She debuted in the first chapter Bulma and Son Goku (ブルマと孫悟空, Buruma to Son Gokū), published in Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine on June 19, 1984,[2] meeting Goku and recruiting him as her bodyguard to travel and find the wish-granting Dragon Balls. Being the daughter of a brilliant scientist, Bulma is also a scientific genius, as well as an inventor and engineer. Along with creating the Dragon Radar, a device that detects the energy signal emitted by a Dragon Ball, Bulma's role as an inventor becomes important at several points in the series; including the time machine that brings her future son Trunks to the past.

Tumblr media
Naruto has shown a better ability to strategize in a fight. He has allies who would give him serious support in a fight. He can quickly raise an army in a second or unleash a series of Rasengan. Once in Sage Mode, he can unlock even more abilities.
