personally don't think Clorinde leans towards threats to be honest. she'd feel horrible and guilty if she did and I don't think she could handle you hating her or being afraid of her (maybe if you pushed her far enough then maybe she could justify it because she's trying to protect you but you'd really have to push it).

imo? leans more towards following you around with a hint of subtle manipulation behinf the scenes0. even if it's within the confines of the Court of Fontaine and the place is swarming with Gardemeks you can never be too sure. absolutely fumbles the excuse if you catch her though (if)

the epitome of gentleman, too. she "bumps" into you a lot and always offers to help– even if it's just a few small bags she takes them from you to help ease your burden, basically following you around like a lost puppy. it's a lot easier to trust the nice, polite woman who helped you then the stilted, awkward woman desperate for your attention.

her reluctance to threaten you or force you to do anything doesn't extend to people you know, though. she can cook up any manner of crime that'd get them stuck fighting a duel with her or dealing with a trial that'd get them sent straight to the fortress.

of course, the first thing she'd do is make sure you're okay. she still cares about you (and she really doesn't mean to manipulate you, but really, don't you find it odd that everyone around you is so sketchy? you should be more careful about who you trust. you trust her though, dont you?).

clorinde is very much in for the long game, in the end. she'd only kidnap you as a last resort. she'd much prefer slowly getting closer to you and having you come with her of your own free will (even if it's because she's been planting ideas in your head that you really aren't safe all alone like this. all your friends turned out to be criminals, after all, and what if they start to blame you and try to hurt you? it's best that you stay with her for a while)

if you had a lover, though? oh, she's livid. she makes sure to pin an absolutely heinous crime on them– one that would involve you. after all, she could swoop in and play savior after killing that wretched pest. she did save you from their alleged plan, after all.

a bit awkward with physical affection to be honest, but she tries in her own way. she does what she can to make your life easier– protects you, makes sure you have a roof over your head and nice clothes, a bed and warm baths, expensive foods..anything you want, she would get you without even asking.

why would you ever want to leave? don't you know how dangerous it is outside? who would take care of you if not her? she provides you with all you need, and with only the best (please don't leave)

basically your personal guard dog. she won't bite if you just listen to her and stay put.

and she's just absolutely smitten. careful if you actually use her gifts, because she'll think you're reciprocating her affection whether you are or not. you'll be drowning in new clothes, always trying need food..and she'll always be hovering over your shoulder, watching.

Hello! I love your talks about Arcane. Your words and thoughts always make me realize so much more about the story. Would it be ok if you talked about the scene where Silco talks to Vi outside where she used to grow up, What do you think he meant when says that ‘jinx is so much more than he ever imagined and that he ‘freed her candidly’ the tone seemed more soft and his word choice seemed very calculated. Why do you think he thought it was necessary to say those words to Vi right then? (His tone was hard for me to read there)

Then Silco has his whole rage fit after the sign falls and Vi and Caitlyn escape. I know he was furious but I’m not sure if there are any other emotions layered that I’m not picking up in that scene. I wanted to know your general thoughts on it if you have any.

Also thank you for the kind words!! holy cow >.< im not worthy!! This is gunna be a long one so im posting a read below to just... save peoples scrolling XD

Silco is such a *wonderfully* complex character and he has so much behind everything he does; or at least this is how i feel. I briefly touched on this topic in a different post about how i feel Silco did not plan on killing Vi (i think it was that post.. maybe it was a Silco/Jinx father/daughter analysis.. i cant recall now >.< ) So, man, ok.. where to start... So in that scene.. hmm no ok wait. Lets back it up ok, Silco/Jinx leading up to that scene is really important to set the narrative for explanation so forgive me for reiterating events here but: - Jinx "defended" the shimmer shipment - Silco argued in Jinxs defense against Sevika - He talked with Jinx and advised she distract herself with her gadgetry - Jinx decided to bomb a bunch of enforcers and get the gem - Silco learns of the attack; we dont see who from but we know its NOT Marcus because he comes to confront Silco separately later - Silco dad-style yells at Jinx but forgives cuz gem - Silco argues with Marcus, again in Jinxs defense - Jinx medicates Silco and he tells her to focus on weaponizing the gem - Jinx has her freak out from the magic acting up - Jinx goes to the arcade (ironically while Vi and Cait are eating at Jerichos) - Silco gives one of Jinx's bombs to Marcus to use as evidence against the Firelights - Jinx expresses to Silco she cant handle the magic trauma - Silco takes Jinx out to the water and has a heart to heart - Jinx successfully works on the gem - Silco learns Vi is alive - Silco sends out an order to all of his staff to "grab" the two girls that kicked Sevika's ass - Bartender Thieram/Chuck tells Jinx about the order - Jinx is suspicious that she wasnt included or made aware of the order - Jinx confronts Sevika in Silcos office - Silco confronts Marcus in Marcus' home - And then finally Silco gets word from the shimmer addicts of Vi's location and goes there himself *whew* that was a lot.. but its important. Notice how in all of this, every time Silco has an interaction *about* Jinx he is totally on her side? Their relationship is super solid at this point and it seems like, at least to SOME extent, Silco is aware of the state of Jinx's mind. Given how open these two are with each other and how they relax and show their true vulnerable selves to each other, i would guess Jinx has had fits around Silco as results of botched missions or other trauma triggers. We also see how casually Jinx talks to her apparitions both when alone and with others which makes me feel like she does this around Silco a lot too without receiving any judgement etc.

So i want to point out something very specific here. While Silco did do basically an all-hands-on-deck type of order among his goons to look for Vi and Cait, he went HIMSELF to the location as soon as he learned exactly where she was. He did not look for Sevika to go with him either. He wanted to be the one to handle this himself. This tells me that, while he is willing to use all resources available to him for this task, it is a personal task and not a business one. This also helps clearly define exactly how he perceives Jinx. She is not "just business" or "just a lieutenant". This is why we see his tone and mannerisms change so drastically between how he talks to Singed and Sevika vs how he talks to/about Jinx.

I think that, for Silco, this was a VERY personal matter. All he had likely heard from Sevika was that Vi was looking for Jinx. Silco went all hands on deck because of the threat of someone taking his daughter away.

So, Silco is used to using intimidation and power to get his way. When he confronts Vi, note that he is unarmed BUT he is definitely utilizing that same body language to express his power and influence to build an intimidating presence. He has two goons with him who are armed but not in any stance to fight. Weapons are slung on their shoulders etc.

I feel that Silco had one objective here. Get Vi to give up on Jinx. His tactic for this was two parts. First to make Vi feel too weak to take on the fight and second to make her think that Jinx wouldnt be interested in leaving regardless. I also believe he did not want to kill Vi. This is important. He knows what Vi means to Jinx. He would not risk word of him killing her get around to Jinx.

Thus his speech. "Vanders prodigy, i regretted that we never had the opportunity to speak" He is trying to impose his intelligence over her and seem un-phased by her return. I think he is being honest here and had actually originally planned to try and turn her to his side. He knew from Sevika that Vi was wanting to fight Piltover when the topic was brought up in the Last Drop. He also heard stories from his younger underlings that he had keep eyes on Vanders kids that she was a good fighter. He then seems genuinely offended by the question "what have you done with my sister?" Remember that Silco does not see himself as a destructive or bad person. Most of the people in the undercity support him and he himself sees the bad parts of what he does as "the base violence necessary for change".

So when Silco responds with "I've freed her. Candidly, I thought you were the prize of your secondhand family." We see an interesting and subtle shift in his expression to Vi. When talking about Jinx, there is some life and passion in his expression and tone. Then he looks around for a moment and when he stares back at Vi his expression is icy and devoid of any emotion aside from.. boredom maybe; his tone changes to match. I think Silco means what he said about freeing Jinx. He has helped free her from a lot of her insecurities, he does not restrict her movements or actions or try to snuff out her violent interests, and he protects her from consequences from the law. In his mind, he has freed her of anything that could be holding her back from reaching her true potential. But the second part, while i *do* think he had intended to flip Vi before the warehouse fight, i think he actually means this as the setup for an insult. He searched for those words for a moment. They were calculated. He wanted to hurt Vi with what he says next.

"but... Jinx... Ah~ she is more than i ever imagined." While Silco says these words he is, once again, more expressive. Even leaning his head back and taking his eyes off Vi to visualize his daughter, and his words are so soft.

Silco knows that Vi is a sensitive topic for Jinx even years after the event. A huuuge part of me feels like this is sorta... parental vindication. I thought you were great, but then i saw your sister. I believe Silco wants to hurt Vi with his insult as a small penance for what Jinx has endured emotionally. Silco values power and would assume most others do as well. So telling Vi she is weaker than the girl she abandoned would be a fabulous insult in his world. Because, to be clear, Silco *does* think that Vi abandoned Jinx. He only had Jinx's word to go off of with this and there would have been ZERO info about Vi looking for Jinx after the bomb since Marcus had captured her. Silco truly believes Vi abandoned a crying Powder to be killed by, well, himself.

So i think he is trying to shove it in Vi's face that she discarded someone with so much potential. 'You left her and made the wrong choice.' and twist that knife in til it hurts.

I like how Vi responds to this with "im gunna find her and erase whatever fucked up delusions you put in her head"

So Vi heard those few sentences and clung onto "i freed her" and "she is more than i imagined" and interpreted those as Silco maybe drugging her with Shimmer, manipulated her, or whatever else to make Jinx into this version of herself. Then Vi say she is FIRST going to target Silcos criminal empire and Silco replies with that same bored tone suggesting he feels completely in control and once again exuding power to intimidate Vi. "You dont know your limits, girl. Its what got Vander killed. What drove your sister away. And its why im here right now." again, doubling down on the whole effort to make her feel like this is an imposible task and her sister wouldnt want to return to her anyway. So then stuff happens and the rage fit and i do think there is a lot mixed in here. He is, of course, mad that he got bested by a child but more than that its Vanders Prodigy. So for Silco this has getting defeated by the ghosts of his past written all over it. Plus, he didnt successfully manipulate Vi to giving up on Jinx so there is also still the risk to his daughter leaving him. His effort to intimidate wasnt working. And finally he lost her. He doesnt seem like a man who takes loosing very well. And with her maybe 30 feet away, he lost her. One of the people he raises up and hits on the head during this fit is one of his body guards. Likely annoyed that they didnt have the foresight to see that risk or that they didnt pursue Vi during the chaos. He also stomps violently on the shimmer addict informant that told them of Vi's location. We never see Silco get this emotional. Never. I think he is honestly panicing that right at the final stages of seeing his fight for the Nation of Zaun, everything is falling apart. Vi is back, Jinx is struggling with the weapon, Marcus is turning on him, etc. But the way he responds to all the other bad news is exasperation... the way he responds to the threat to his daughter from his former betrayers prodigy is visceral rage.. i think it definitely sets the tone for how important this matter is to him. I also really like the symbolism of him standing in the center wreckage of the Eye of Zaun. Like his empire is shattering around him. Idk, i feel like it really reflects where he is at right there.

So anyhow, to put it simply, i think this was a personal issue to him, not a business issue. He definitely is a mad dad looking down the person who abandoned his daughter and caused so much shit in her head for him to deal with. And the possibility of Jinx leaving him for his betrayer's prodigy is something he is *very* worried about.

You couldn’t remember much. Your head felt heavy, foggy. You hissed as you felt your body ache with pain. Slowly, you began to sit up, feeling a wave of nausea flew through your chest. You coughed as you tried to fight the feeling. You looked around, realising you were in some sort of med bay. No. The TARDIS med bay. What happened? You clutched your head, searching for any sign of a gash, or bump, but found nothing.

“Ah! You’re awake!”

You felt your body freeze with fear as you heard the familiar voice. You slowly drifted your gaze towards the voice as you saw the person you dreaded to see. He could see the shock and fear on your features as he furrowed his brows in worry.

“Whoa, you look like you’ve seen a ghost...” He commented, walking towards you to see if you were ok. You stayed still, looking confused at the Timelord. Why was he in the Doctor’s TARDIS? Where was she?

“Where’s the Doctor?” You asked, voice strong as you pushed yourself off the med bed. He gave you another confused look. “Why are you on her TARDIS? What did you do to me?” You asked frantically, as you steadied yourself. The Master continued to look concerned and confused as you asked questions.

“How do you know the Doctor?” He raised a brow, as you looked back at him in confusion. What did he mean? Wait... Could it be before you met the Master? Did he not know you yet?

“You don’t know me yet, do you?” You raised a brow.

“Erm...” He seemed to search his mind for an answer until he came to nothing. “Nope, don’t believe I do.” He rested a hand on his hip. “So, what’s your name? Or will it mess up timelines....” He paused. “No don’t tell me. Can’t risk rewriting time!” He exclaimed, putting his finger on your lips as you frowned, pushing his hand away.

“Don’t touch me, Martian!” You cried, narrowing your eyes warningly. He seemed shocked by your outburst.

“So... You know future me?” He almost smirked. “You remind me of someone I used to know.” He smiled, thinking of how Donna used to call him Martian. You shook your head, trying to figure out why he was acting so different to how you knew him.

“This doesn’t make any sense! Why are you being... Like this?” You gestured to him up and down.

“I’ll try not to take offence.” He pursed his lips, dusting down his waistcoat as you groaned in frustration. “Am I not always like this?” He raised a brow.

“No! You’re mean! Annoying! Scheming!” You exclaimed, trying to understand what was happening. He seemed taken back by your words.

“That... doesn’t sound like me. I know I can be grumpy, bossy and maybe a bit irritating at times, but scheming? I would prefer the term crafty.” He ranted, as you recognised a similar look in his eyes as he spoke... There wasn’t any anger, or fire. They were welcoming, soft and wise. They felt... familiar.

“You have no clue what I’m talking about do you?” You softened your tone as he looked lost.

“No. Apparently it’s a very common occurrence I have during human interaction.” He said casually. “I think you call it social awkwardness.”

“You sound like the Doctor...” You mumbled, expecting him to explode with anger, disgust, but it never came.

“I’d hope so.” He laughed lightly. “Considering I am the Doctor.” He looked amused as you felt confusion take you over.

“No you’re not.” You argued, folding your arms. “You’re the Master.” His eyes widened in shock.

“Did you hit your head?” He questioned, stepping forwards once more to check you over. He pulled out a sonic screwdriver as he scanned you over. You hit his hand away. “Ow!” He exclaimed, frowning like a kicked puppy.

“Stop pointing that thing at me!” You cried, as the sonic made a beep sound, alerting him to something. He lifted it cautiously, eyeing you, as he looked at the readings.

“But that cant be...” He muttered, furrowing his brows. “This... this says you’re from a different universe.” He looked you in the eye as you narrowed your own.

“Why should I believe you?” You spat, defensively. “How do I know this isn’t apart of a mega evil plan you’ve come up with?” You retorted as he sighed.

“Ask me anything. Anything the Doctor could answer.” He told you, placing his hands behind his back after putting the sonic away. You thought for a moment, before thinking of a few questions.

“What do you think of humans?” You began as you searched his eyes for any hidden emotion.

“I think...” You saw his lights light up, as a small smile appeared on his lips. “I think you are wonderful. Flawed, yes, but overall... You’re so huge and strong. You don’t give up. You are so much bigger than you know in the universe.” You hummed at his response, feeling his sincerity.

“Okay. Bow ties?” You raised a brow, waiting for him to finish the sentence.

“Are cool.” He grinned. “I still stand by that.” You placed your finger on your chin as you thought of one last question.

“What do you always do to a book?”

“Rip the last page out.” He told you, a sad smile on his face. “Never liked endings.”

You looked at him, searching his eyes as you took a step closer to him. You noticed the differences in his appearance finally; instead of a beard, he was more clean shaven, just stubble, his shirt was no longer a deep blue, but a lilac, as his jacket looked similar to his eleventh incarnations. You peered down, as his socks were still visible, the purple showing blatantly as you couldn’t help but chuckle to yourself.

“Ugh, you really are you aren’t you?” You looked up at him in wonder. “How is that possible? Where’s.... Where’s your thirteenth self gone?” You inquired as he furrowed his brows.

“I am thirteen.” He told you. “Well.. technically fourteen, but we don’t talk about that.” He rambled.

“So you don’t know me yet? How did I get on the TARDIS?” You asked, looking up at him.

“Well, I found you in the console room. You just... appeared.” He explained, shrugging. “I always like a mystery. So... You know a different version of me?”

“I guess... You’re a woman for starters. Blonde. Quirky. Trousers that don’t reach your ankles.” You smiled fondly at the memory of your Doctor. His face seemed to shift as you saw his sudden uncomfortable stance. You raised a brow, before coming to the realisation. “Oh God... She’s the Master... isn’t she?” You exclaimed, gasping as he sent you a sympathetic glance. “So what? Am I in a alternate world or something? Where you’re the Doctor and she’s the Master?!”

“Most likely a parallel universe...” He explained. “There are many different versions of us all out there... There’s probably a you here too... Just maybe a bit different.” You felt anxiety rising within.

“How do I get back?” You asked, glassy eyes, fearing the worst. He sighed, sending you a sad look.

“I’m sorry. You can’t.” He told you gently. “It would cause a tear in time. Trust me. I know.” You felt your world crashing around you. You’d most likely never see your Doctor again. And even if you saw her face, it wasn’t hers in this world. The Doctor reached out, placing a hand on your arm, bringing you out of your daze. “So... what is your name?”

“(Y/N). (Y/N) (L/N).” You introduced as he gave you a soft smile.

“Great name.” He complimented as you tried to see him as the Doctor. He had the mannerisms... He was similar to the Eleventh... But different... But he wasn’t your Doctor. You didn’t even know if he was the same as the Doctor.

You ducked into the TARDIS through its wooden doors as you yelped in surprise. The Doctor followed behind as he flailed his arms around, closing the door behind you both as you continued to hear the blasts being shot at you both.

“Really?! Why does every adventure with you end with us running for our lives?!” You exclaimed as he rushed to the console. His TARDIS was different from your Doctors. It looked similar to Twelve’s, but had splashes of purple and blue around, instead of feeling colder, it felt warmer. You followed him to the console as a large bang made you flinch away from the doors.

“Would you have it any other way?!” He teased, grinning as you rolled your eyes. “How I was supposed to know he was the King?!”

“Doctor, you told him he was an idiot!” You cried, exasperated. “He was wearing a bloody crown!” You shook your head, before realising he was staring at you intently. You furrowed your brows, folding your arms. “What?” You questioned as his lips twitched slightly.

“You... You just called me Doctor.” He said gleefully as you realised you had in fact called him Doctor.

“Yeah well...” You cleared your throat, shifting your gaze around the room. “Suppose I should probably start believing you. And admit that I’m stuck here. And that you are the Doctor.” You mumbled, before you felt arms wrap around your waist, lifting you up, twirling you around as you looked behind him in shock at his reaction. Finally, he placed you down on the floor, as he beamed down at you.

“Don’t get used to it.” You pointed at him. “It’s still gonna take time.” You admitted, playing with the sleeves of your shirt as he gave you one last tight smile.

“I’ll take what I’m given.”

“Doctor!”

You cried, panic rising as you looked around the darkened room. Alone. You were all alone. You didn’t know where you were, or what was happening. You feared you would be thrown into another universe once again. You’d just begun to settle and face reality. You couldn’t handle it again.

“Doctor! Doctor!” You heard someone mimic before a dark laugh filled the room. “Oh, my dear (Y/N)....” You froze, recognising the voice. Tears filled your eyes as you shook your head. “Shouting for her wonderful Doctor.”

Finally, you could see where the voice was coming from, as a figure stepped out from the shadows. You felt your heart skip a beat as you saw the one face you’d hoped to see again for months...

“We meet at last.” She spoke, raising a brow. You saw the Doctor. Or not the Doctor, rather the Master in this universe. Her hair was disheveled, her eyes had dark circles under them, whilst her lips sported a red lipstick. Her outfit was reminiscent of your Doctors. Her shin length trousers were instead a dark red, and her rainbow top black, as her long jacket was also a deep red. She looked menacing.

“No.” You whispered, backing up slightly. “You can’t be...” You shook your head.

“Oh I am...” She grinned, but you didn’t feel warm from the smile, you felt scared. “I know all about you... From a different universe... My face... The Doctors.” She hissed, growling almost as she wore a disgusted face. “What an awful world you must have lived in.”

“Shut up!” You cried, overwhelmed.

“Ugh. Sentiments.” She rolled her eyes, hand on hip. “You humans love your emotions don’t you?”

“Better than to be cold and calculated.” You snapped back.

“Oh, careful, what would the Doctor think of you complimenting me?” She purred as you flared your nostrils in anger. “Naughty.” She teased as you bit your lip. “I can see it in your eyes... Your love for the Doctor. Well... Your Doctor.” She pressed as you let a tear fall, looking away from her gaze. “I can hear the thoughts racing through your mind...” She stepped towards you, but you refused to react. “I can smell the fear... The sadness...” she laughed, almost manically. “Pathetic, really.”

“I know you. Just because you have a different face, I still know you.” You argued, glaring at her as she raised a brow.

“But it’s not just any different face, is it?” She retorted. “It’s your Doctor’s face. God was she lucky.” She winked, resting her hands on her hips.

“I’m not scared of you.” You ignored her, trying to stand strong.

“Oh really?” She questioned, shock in her voice. “Well... we need to fix that then, don’t we?” She said, before pulling out a tissue compression device, aiming it at you. You flinched slightly, but stood strong. “Say you fear me.” She ordered. You tightened your jaw as you bit your tongue, refusing to give into her game. “Say. You. Fear. Me.” She hissed, finger on the trigger as you rolled your eyes. She pressed the trigger, moving the direction of the beam beside you, inches away as it shot out. Your breath hitched. “Say you fear me!” She roared, voice bouncing off the walls.

“Oh a party!”

You sighed in relief at a similar voice.

“Can anyone join the party?”

The Doctor stepped out from the shadows as you watched the Master roll her eyes, seemingly frustrated with his intrusion. She sighed, twirling round to face her enemy.

“Of course!” She beamed. “More to kill the merrier...” She smirked.

“How did you escape?” The Doctor asked, sighing. He looked almost tired. “Every time...”

“I have a knack of getting out of tight situations.” She shrugged. “But I also have a talent for getting myself into them to.”

“Either way. You know I’m going to stop you.” The Doctor glared at the woman. “I promise. Cross my hearts.”

“Don’t make promises you can’t keep, Doctor.” She poured for a second, waving the device around in her hand, before it landed back towards your direction. The Doctor tensed, glancing at your face as he saw the fear in your eyes. “I’ll do it.” She warned. “You know I wouldn’t even hesitate.” The Doctor stayed silent. “Imagine the possibilities... If I could work out how to travel to the other universes!” She cheered. “Imagine the destruction! Across worlds...” She laughed. “Multiple versions of me... I would be unstoppable.”

“Also multiple versions of me.” The Doctor argued. “And how many times have I stopped you.” He stated as her jaw tightened, grip on the device tighter.

“Barely.” She raised her brows. “By the skin of your teeth...” She smirked. “It could be a masterful world, Doctor.” She laughed, her body moving with her voice. “Or should I say worlds...”

“Not this time.” He almost growled, pulling a device from his pocket, throwing it in her direction. She looked down at the ball shaped device as she glared at the fellow Timelord. She hissed as she fired the tissue compressor, as you narrowly missed the shot, throwing yourself to the floor. As you looked back up, you saw the ball open, exploding around her in a bright light as she disappeared. You felt your breath rise and fall quickly as you looked up at the Doctor.

“What happened?” You asked, slowly getting up from the floor. “Where did she go?”

“Back in time. Far enough for me to come up with a plan at least.” He explained, walking towards you as his eyes roamed your body for any damage.

“I’m fine.” You waved him off, feeling saddened by it all.

“You’re crying.” He told her, furrowing his brows.

“I’m fine.” You insisted.

You sat in the console room, twiddling your thumbs as the Doctor kept eyeing you, ensuring you were ok. He knew you weren’t. You’d just seen the Master... with your Doctors face. He licked his lips before slowly approaching you, almost cautious.

“It’s ok you know?” He began, getting your attention. “To be sad...” He said softly, sitting beside you on the steps.

“I’m...” You sighed, glancing down at your hands. “I loved her.” You blurted out, as the Doctor listened carefully. “My Doctor... I’d known her for years... Met her by accident... As always.” You sniffled, laughing lightly. “Saw her regenerate. Multiple times.” You explained. “Fought Daleks... Cybermen... The Master...” You glanced over at him as he almost shrunk under your gaze. “And it’s like I’ve started all over again.” You whispered.

“Stories don’t always have to end.” He told you gently. “Picture it as... An extended chapter... The Sequel even.” He gave a small smile. He offered his hand as you glanced at it, before eventually taking it softly. “I know I’m not her.” He paused. “But, I am the Doctor. I’m the same person. Just a bit different.” He said as you gave him a small smile in return.

You watched the Doctor with a smile on your face as he rambled about something or other. You didn’t have a clue what he was on about, but the excitement in his eyes when he spoke of it was enough to keep you interested. It had been a year since you fell into the other universe... A year since you met this Doctor. You had to admit, he was the same. He was the same man, woman, you once knew. Had always known. The Doctor furrowed his brows, turning to you as he saw your stare.

“What?” He asked. “Have I got something on my head again?” He reached up, patting his hair in confusion. You shook your head, laughing lightly as you walked towards him.

“You really are the Doctor aren’t you?” You smiled. “You are... The same Doctor.”

“But different.” He said as he gave you a small smile, moving his hand away from his head, shifting under your stare.

“My Doctor.” You said quietly. His eyes fell back onto your own at your words, his mouth slightly parted as he looked at you, shock evident in his eyes.

“Did you just-“ He pointed at you as you rolled your eyes, cutting him short, jumping on him as you wrapped your arms around his shoulders, giving him a hug. You’d never really shown affection towards him. It was about time for it.

“Thank you.” You said into his ear as he held you close.

“For what?” He questioned.

“For putting up with me.” You laughed lightly. “I’ve not been the nicest to you... I’ve been waiting to prove you wrong, that you weren’t the Doctor... But you are... All along, you have been. My Doctor.” You smiled into his shoulder as you felt him rub your back comfortingly.

“Hey, it’s ok.” He told you softly. “You reacted normally. Hell, even I would’ve been cautious.” He told you, pulling away as he held you at arms length.

“Oh shut up and just take the compliment.” You teased as he let out a breath of air, seeing the playfulness in your eyes.

“So!” He exclaimed, twirling around, his jacket almost hitting you in the process as the ran around the console. “Where to next?!”

“Everywhere.”

The Intern | Part Three

Summary: You move to New York to focus on your art but end up working as an intern at Stark Enterprises

Chapter Summary: its the morning after the night before and Tony wants to see you in his office 

Pairing: Tony Stark x Reader, Peter Parker x Reader (friendship)

Word Count: 2523

A/N: for the purposes of this story Stark Enterprise is set out like an office building in New York and the story does not follow the same timeline as the movies. Reader does not know Peter is SpiderMan. Also, spelling and grammar is not my strongest skill so please be kind :)

The next morning when you got up for work you remembered why you don’t really like drinking wine. You took some painkillers to ease the headache, got ready and left your apartment. 

You got off the train and found Peter waiting for you as he usually does. As you walk with him you tell him about the night before. 

“It was actually really nice. We ate pizza, looked at art, and I taught him how to bake brownies”

Peter looks at you confused.

“It’s a long story. Thing is, we’d both had a bit to drink and when we were baking we ended up having a kind of food fight with the flour. Then one thing led to another and... we almost kissed”

“You kissed Mr Stark?!” Peter blurts a bit too loud which causes a few glances from people around you. 

“Shh, Peter, keep your voice down! No, we didn’t actually- we almost did, he backed away before anything happened and then he just left. I don’t really know what I’m supposed to do now”

“If nothing happened then that’s okay right?” Peter asks innocently. 

“Yeah but something almost did. Am I supposed to pretend nothing almost happened, or do we need to talk things through? What If last night has completely changed things? ugh! Never drink wine Peter, never!” You say bringing one hand up to your head. 

“It will be fine y/n. Mr Stark probably doesn’t even remember” Peter tries to reassure you as you both walk through the main doors into the reception. “I’m sure nothing has changed- who is that?” He says as you both notice the new girl sitting at the reception desk. Your reception desk. 

Suddenly Happy appears in front of you. 

“Ah miss Y/L/N, I’ve been waiting for you”

“Who’s that?” You ask, pointing at the desk

“the new intern.”

“But..” you start to speak but Happy interrupts

“Mr Stark wants to see you” he gestures for you to walk with him.

You look at Peter who just shrugs sympathetically. 

“Now!” Happy shouts back to you already ahead of you so you have to do a little jog to catch up with him. 

“I’ll see you at lunch then” Peter shouts after you as you walk up the stairs.

You could feel your anxiety rising with every step as you followed Happy down the corridor toward Tony’s office. Happy opened the door and waited for you to step inside before following you in. 

“Ah just the girl I’ve been waiting for” Tony says sitting behind his desk, flicking through papers “thanks Happy” 

Happy nods and steps outside, closing the door behind him. You don’t move, you stay stood by the door anxiously. 

“Well come on in, take a seat” Tony says, gesturing to the chair on the opposite side of the desk to him. You do as he says and sit looking at him, waiting for him to speak. But he just continues looking down at the paper. 

“What’s going on?” You ask cautiously. 

“Oh, you’re fired” he replies casually and you feel a huge wave of panic sweep over you. 

“What?! Why?” 

“I’m kidding!” He says finally looking up at you “I’m sorry that was mean”

You breath a massive sigh of relief. 

“Okay you really cannot say things like to me, my anxiety can’t handle it” you shake your head letting out a nervous giggle. 

“Yeah I’m sorry, I couldn’t resist” he gets up from his chair, walking around to lean against the front of his desk right in front of you “although technically it wasn’t a complete lie. You are no longer an intern at Stark Enterprise. BUT don’t freak out, I have something better lined up for you”

You look at him confused and he smiles at you. 

“I want you to come work for me”

“But I already work for you” you reply blankly. 

“I mean, WITH me. I’m offering you a job as my personal assistant”

“I don't understand. I thought Happy was your personal assistant?” You ask and Tony laughs. 

“Don’t let him hear you call him that. No, Happy is my head of security and chauffeur. But lately he’s been taking on some personal assistant duties and, well let’s just say that does not make him Happy.” 

You look up at him trying to process what’s happening. He smiles down at you. 

“So? What do you think?”

“I think there are a load of other people who have been working here way longer than me, and are far more qualified than me, that would kill for this job.” Tony nods his head as you speak. “So why me?” You ask. 

“Because they’re not you.” He says sincerely and takes you by surprise “I’ve never met anyone else in this building who cares as much as you do about doing a good job. You’re always one of the last ones to leave this building, and you always have a smile on your face. You’re hardworking and honest and talented. And I know you worry a lot but you never let that stop you. Just look at the way you chased that guy through the building the other week. You’re braver than you think.” He leans forward, putting his hands on your shoulders to look into your eyes

“Ive seen something special in you Y/N, you have the potential to do great things and I want to be the one help you get there.”

You look into his eyes and you can tell he’s being genuine with you. A smile creeps onto your face and you start to nod. 

“Is that a yes?” he asks.

“Yes” you start laughing, “yes I’ll take the job”

Tony jumps up, grabbing your hands and pulling you up into a hug. It feels nice, comfortable. Then he pulls back suddenly to look at you again.

“I’m glad you said yes, I kinda already filled your old intern position...”

“Yeah, I noticed.” You giggle.

You spent the morning with Tony, filling in some paperwork while he explained the sorts of things you’d be doing as his new PA. It sounded perfect. Double the salary you were on before, and Tony promised you’d have plenty of time to work on your art. 

On your lunch break you decided to head down to the reception desk to collect a few of your things you’d left in the desk drawers. Thankfully the new intern was also on her lunch break, you didn’t really feel like awkwardly explaining to her that you used work on that desk. As you’re putting the last few things in your bag Peter comes running up to the desk speaking a million miles an hour. 

“Why are you packing your things away? Oh my god y/n did Mr Stark fire you? Or did you quit because of the almost kiss? Y/N please don’t leave-“

“Peter! Relax! I’m not going anywhere. I’m just not the intern anymore.” 

Peter stops talking and just looks at you.

“Im Mr Stark’s new PA.” you smile and Peter’s face lights up

“Y/N! That’s amazing! Congratulations, I’m so happy for you.” Then he stops smiling and looks like he doesn’t know how to ask you the next part “...Do you think this had anything to do with.. you know.. last night?”

You think for a moment then smile slightly. 

“No. He told me the reasons why he's giving me this job and, I believe him. He didn’t even mention last night at all. I don’t know if he was drunker then I thought, or if he’s just choosing to ignore it but either way I’m fine. Now can we please go get some lunch, I’m starving”

A week later. 

You walk into the coffee shop you’ve now become a regular at since taking on your new job. It’s Tony’s favourite and he sends you there pretty much every day to collect drinks so when you walk through the door the server behind the counter recognises you instantly.

“hey y/n”

“hey MJ, how you doing today?”

“cant complain. I’m guessing Tony wants his usual?”

“yes please” you say with a smile

“coming right up” she says as she puts your order through the till “I hope he pays you well for treating you like a slave”

“he doesn’t treat me like a slave” you laugh handing over the company credit card Tony gave you “I actually like doing the coffee run, its nice to not be stuck behind a desk anymore”

“plus you get to see your favourite barista” 

“oh of course, highlight of my day!” You grin at her and she hands the card back

“i’ll bring your drinks over in a minute” she says before turning around to make them and you move to the end of the counter to wait. As you stand waiting you look up at the pieces of art spread around the walls of the cafe. Even though you see them everyday you still love studying them while you wait, they make you feel inspired. 

“hello y/n” a voice behind you startles you and you spin around to see the man who had come into Start Enterprise a few weeks ago. The guy you’d chased into Tony’s office. He gives you a sinister smile. “I hear Tony’s promoted you, congratulations!”

“how did you know-“

“I’m sorry where are my manners? We were never formally introduced were we? I’m Professor Randall, but you can call me Charles.” He presents his hand for you to shake and you look at him cautiously. As your about to reach out to shake his hand MJ calls that your order is ready and you turn round to see her stood holding your drinks waiting for you to take them off her. You turn back to the Professor and point over your shoulder. 

“I better be going” is all you say before turning to walk over to MJ. 

“of course. I’ll see you again y/n” he says and you look back to see him walking out the coffee shop. 

“thanks MJ, you're a star” you say as you take the drinks from her and give her a smile, trying to cover up how shaken you are from that small interaction. 

“no problem” she says smiling back “hey who was that creepy guy? Ive seen him in here a lot recently but he never actually orders anything. Just sits and stares at people. He’s really weird”

“I don't actually know him. It’s a long story but, look I better be getting back to work before Mr Stark sends out a search party for his coffee. See ya” you say and turn to walk out the cafe. 

“see you tomorrow” she shouts behind you.

When you walk back through the doors of Stark Enterprise building you bump into Peter who spots the coffee cups your carrying and instantly knows where you’ve been. 

“hey y/n? Is MJ working the counter today?” He asks pointing at the cups in your hand.

“yeah she is. Let me guess, you gonna go there for lunch today right?”

“uh, maybe yeah” he blushes which makes you smile “You wanna join?”

“not today no, got a lot on. Speaking of, I really gotta-“

“no no, of course yeah carry on. I’ll see ya later”

As you pass Happy in the corridor you pass him his coffee cup and he gives you a small smile of thanks. You walk into Tony’s office and put his cup down on the desk in front of him. He says thank you but doesn’t look up from his work. You take a seat on a chair over by the window and take a few sips of your drink. You soon find yourself looking out the window daydreaming, rerunning the conversation with the Professor through your head. Was it coincidence he was in the cafe or had he followed you there? And if so, why? Tony had said this guy had tried to get his attention a few times, what was his plan? What did he want?

“Y/N?! Hello?” You suddenly realise Tony is calling your name and you look up to see him staring at you from his desk. 

“what? sorry, I was daydreaming” you reply sheepishly.

“hmm I noticed. I was just saying that we need to get the guest list together for the fundraiser next week” he says, eyeing you with concern “where were you then? I could see in your eyes you were somewhere else completely”

“nowhere. Like I said, just zoned out for a minute. I cant even remember what I was thinking-“

“y/n.” Tony interrupts as he stands up and walks over to sit on the chair next to you “I’ve spent enough time with you lately to know when something is bothering you”

You look down at the floor. 

“you don't have to tell me anything, but you can talk to me anytime”

“honestly Im okay. It’s not even a big deal, I just bumped into Professor Randall at the cafe and he was a bit weird. That’s all.”

Tony’s eyes go wide for a second when you mention the Professors name. 

“what did he say to you?” Tony asks, a hint of worry in his voice. 

“Not much. Just that he’d heard about my promotion and then he introduced himself”

“anything else?”

“no” you shake your head “as soon as the drinks were ready he said he’d see me again then he left”

“he said he’d see you again? Those were his exact words?” You can tell he’s getting more and more worried. 

“Yes. Tony, whats going on? Why does it matter?”

Tony looks at you and he can tell he’s stressing you out. He takes a breath and smiles trying to be reassuring. 

“It’s probably nothing, but I just want you to be safe.”

“why wouldn’t I be?”

“no you are. It’s just. The Professor isn’t a nice man, and I don't want him harassing the people I care about the way he’s being harassing me. From now on Happy will accompany you on all trips outside this building and we will be driving you to and from work every day” he stands up and goes back over to his desk, picks up his coffee and has a drink. 

You watch him, thinking over everything he’s just said. You cant shake that uneasy feeling you’ve had since you left the cafe. 

“Tony?” You said standing up from your chair and Tony turns around to look at you. “I need you to be completely honest with me now.” 

You pause as Tony gives you a small nod. 

“Am I in danger?” You ask quietly. 

Tony walks to you and puts his hands on either side of your face, looking into your eyes. 

“no. I promise you, I will keep you safe” he says sincerely. 

You give him a small smile and he kisses you on the forehead before taking his hands away from your face. 

“right, let’s get to work on this guest list”

Med Rewatch Series (#5)

S3 e3: Trust Your Gut. From what I remember this is a big one. I just remember this episode title honestly but we’ll see what happens.

-look at that! ava’s just casually in this scene, minding her own business, doing her job! you would never guess that this is a character who would later have a psychotic break and commit suicide.

-that’s really the point i’m trying to make. I hate all those posts where they’re like ‘i hated ava before, but season 4 has finally shown her true colors’ like not even?? no??? we’re trying to prove that that was never even a thing. i want to eliminate the possibility of s4 happening from your minds. nothing from s3 should ever be used as foreshadowing. that’s what the rewrite is about, ava being a good character. ava was never going to commit suicide. she was never gonna go psychotic. that should be ingrained in everyone’s minds.

-anyways, back to the episode.

-connor takes everything like a personal attack. relax

- i never realized how fun stoll was. like obviously not in the story but as a character he’s hilarious. unattached by everyone else’s drama

-awww. this maggie interaction is amazing. tapping sarah on the shoulder (neck actually but whatever) just to say hi. adorable. and sarah is already super jumpy. come on. her anxiety is already setting in. they really gave sarah two huge storylines in the same season.

-maggie... no one else would ever slash sarah’s tires. i mean honestly

-WHY DOES CONNOR HAVE TO CONTROL OF EVERYTHING - honestly ava was just reading off the chart and he can’t even let her do that he has to take over just to say the same things.

-and the way ava just takes it with her smug smile

-she is such a strong character there is no reason she would have gone crazy over connor she literally needs nothing from him.he has not ever had anything that she needed. 

- SHE’S JUST ROLLING HER EYES, SMIRKING, AND SHAKING HER HEAD AT THIS INSECURE MAN ava I love you.

-okay there’s no way i can explain it but after rolling her eyes at connor Ava turns and looks at the patient and instantly her face changes and you can see such pure concern in her eyes?? s4 ava could never (can someone please rb with a picture of what i’m talking about? it’s uncanny and so so sincere.)

- she’s in control of her emotions. she cares so much for her patients so don’t even try to play that card. the only thing connor has done literally since she got here is get in her way.

-AND CONNOR LOOKS AT HER WITH SUCH DISTRUST AND CONTEMPT. TELL ME HOW. this is insane. exasperating.

-and the way she smiles and comforts the patient. i mean come on. she’s just so amazing. AND COMFORTING. if ava really was as heartless as people say, she wouldn’t take the effort to do that. connor didn’t even do that, he just scowls at ava.

-which just proves my point, ava is only ever mean to people who she thinks deserve it. and, the more that I think about it, she’s never really actually mean. sure, she’s blunt and rude, but never cutting. she’s nice to her patients (and I know what you’re going to say, it’s not because she has to be. she’s a doctor, she still wants to help people). but when her patients are dicks, she’s not nice to them. she’s as snarky with as she’s professionally allowed to be.

-like, take this guy. he seems nice enough. he’s funny, polite, comes across charming, so ava is nice and is polite back to him.

-let’s move on.

-why is connor always so suspicious of ava. come on. he’s the one who should be sus. she literally said ‘Don’t worry, Ray, we’ll take good care of you’ and he’s giving her this weird side eye.

-ethan and will being in this board meeting is really adorable to me. like, just, bros.

-oh godddd sarah please relax. sweetie. please.

-sarah fucking tranqed him oh my god

-oh my god noah asking people for help literally shut the fuck up

-straight people are gross. not to hate but how does anyone sit through manstead

-connor literally needs to chill. I know this bit (they’re arguing over menial things in surgery) plays more to them just picking on each other, pulling each other’s pigtails on the playground if you will (i didn’t like that analogy but I used it anyway), but if you look at it, ava was only trying to help connor (suggesting a wider possible target and an easier to handle stitch) and connor took it wayyy to personally. sure the second bit of advise is just poking at him, but she suggested a better spot on the base and he shut her down without any thought.

-and then latham points out that there is no point in arguing, to which ava defers, then connor snidely says ‘Thank you, Doctor, Now, how about from here on out we keep the background noise to a minimum’ and ava just shakes her head, scoffing.

-at this point ava just likes annoying connor because its fun. it’s entertaining. he gets so upset. everyone’s done that, just be annoying for fun (its bad to say but i mean come on everyones done it)

-another point, ava immediately deferring to latham might read to some as her being a suck up but that’s not what it is.

-ava really likes seeing how close to the line she can get. she goes right up to it, but she never crosses it. the same is true with her interactions with other people outside of surgery.

-I really like this story of the girl who passed out and hit her head, and her brother’s a wreck, and her parents obviously think the brother’s a disappointment. and it was finals week so of course she wasn’t taking care of herself. and the brother knew that, and you can tell he cares so much and feels so bad. it’s nice

-complication on the surgery they were working on. ava comes in with a solution (off of connor’s mistake during surgery after not following her advice) but I have a sneaking suspicion that by the end connor will be back on top

-the effort it took connor to say ‘it’s a good idea’ come on man just fucking let it go

-i’m glad we’ve all agreed that connor’s just a dick

-aw look at that she even held the door for him. connor would never

-i don’t want to overly push the ‘med is sexist’ thing but how is it that in a storyline between nat and ethan, characters who have never been romantically involved, they still pull the woman thinks one thing, man refuses to believe it and is right dynamic. i mean come on med seriously. what the fuck is wrong with you.

-the look of annoyance and disbelief on ava’s face that connor hadn’t actually messed up. comedic, but also i get your pain.

-glad that latham sides with ava, ava advocating for a riskier procedure so they could ensure the blockage is removed)

-(something could be said about ava’s high-risk, high-reward ideals. you could even draw the parallel to events in s4 and s5, even though I really don’t want to. it’s an interesting and notable character trait to say the least)

-YOOOO I FORGOT HOW METAL THE PSYCH STORY GETS

-dude straight up cuts his abdomen open and his intestines spill out

-the fear and shock and emotion on sarah’s face make me feel so bad for her

-WAIT IS THIS THE EPISODE WHERE SHE LOSES THE END OF THE INSTRUMENT? IS THAT WHAT THIS IS? i am not prepared to watch an ava bekker breakdown rn.

-the shock on ava’s face when connor said nice job.

-ava actually tried to apologize to connor. well, not apologize but she feels a little bit bad for just how abrasive she’s been to connor. (connor didn’t necessarily have to make it super competitive). Ava said “Look, I know i have the tendency to step on toes. it’s nothing personal”

-and now they’re not arguing and are this close to actually working like a team

-and i cannot believe connor’s big one-liner is ‘Murphy’s law’

-the emotion on april’s face when the girl’s parents won’t even let her brother grieve for her. I feel it. astounding. its so painful omg

-ava: “your optimism is enchanting.” when i was writing earlier I was worried I wasn’t being accurate with her dialogue and making it sound too overly formal but i guess I nailed it. also, this line reinforces how much I love her (so does every other line)

-connor just refusing to give ava anything, no credit, no nothing. doesn’t even give her credit for earning the surgery saying “you may have elbowed your way onto the case, but he is still my patient” (I JUST TRANSITIONED INTO A QUOTE SO SMOOTHLY WHY CANT I DO THAT IN MY LANG RHETORICAL ANALYSIS ESSAYS YOU’RE KIDDING)

-hey it’s joey!

- i can appreciate him so much more when he’s not chasing after reese

-do you remember their first meeting? bickering over who gets the last splenda? (real meet cute amirite)

-dr. charles remarking how all the scientific advances can’t beat human instinct, nice little tie in to the episode title

-ava just smiling while connor waits for her to apologize. she. takes. no. shit.

-i literally hate connor’s face so much. it fucking looks predatory like stop looking at her like that. it’s almost like you were planning her psychotic break

-ava’s cunning, saying ‘we’ instead of ‘i’ when talking about the decisions being made. she’s smart. she knows what to do. She knows how to present herself. (and yeah, a little hypocritical that she said to connor ‘when you fail, I will make sure that it is noted that it was your fault and not mine,’ but like I said, she just knows how to present herself)

-latham: “Dr. Bekker seems to enjoy this discordance.”

Alright. Another episode down. 17 to go. This was actually a pretty good episode all around. Ava took none of connor’s shit and you’d have to squint to find any sort of romantic subtext in their interactions, which is huge win in my book. reese’s storyline wasn’t too bad, she didn’t go through too much trauma, which, the bar for watching med is incredibly low i guess. This was a really good episode for ava. like I said before, very little romantic subtext, and she had a redeeming quality in the way she obviously cared for her patient at the beginning of the episode.

The main point is something I’ve been reiterating again and again. Ava cares about her patients. Ava is mean to connor because she knows someone needs to put him in his place, and she is glad that it is her.

All in all, this was a pretty good Ava episode. Very happy.

(i only say he WAS bc he should have told y/n he was struggling before he ended up in the hospital 🥺)

— oh god. nate is the type to keep cool and collected in an emergency - even if he were the one having an emergency 🥺 like if reader would’ve been w him during his car accident, she would have been worried sick over him and he’d just be like, “hey, look at me. i’m okay, yeah? a lot stronger than i look, babe.” even if it hurt like hell because he doesn’t wanna worry her. if you were in an emergency or got hurt, he’d go into sexy doctor mode. “tell me where it hurts.” squeezing your hand to reassure you, “i got you.” also kissies where it hurts 🥺 and he’s such a good listener too wow we have no choice but to simp.

-- he’s so used to being the one who’s needed 🥺 it takes him a while to be comfy being vulnerable and needy. idk if there’s anything in particular that sets him off to be like this - but i’d like to think it happens at random. like youre on the couch and he just nuzzles his face on your tummy for you to pet his hair. he demonstrates it by wanting to be close to you 🥺

O- Oasis (Where is their happy place? Where would they go if they didn’t have anything holding them back?)

-- i think he’d be the kinda guy that enjoys the sun (not just bc he looks hot, shirtless on a beach) but yes. somewhere nice and sunny where he could have maxie w him 🥺if he could stay on the beach where he started falling for dumb!reader (with her) for ever he would 🥺

P- Pain (How do they handle pain? How do they handle when you are in pain?)

-- emotional or physical? jfgksjdgsdk but no i think if he’s well regulated, he can handle pain well - it’s when he’s not that it’s a problem (w emotional pain) he stops taking care of himself the way he should and really spirals into his head a lot you know 🥺i think he can handle others being in pain better than himself bc he loves a lot and its easier to focus his attention on trying to fix things for them (like we said his biggest weakness is doing too much for those he loves)

-- i generally think duncan is more of a control freak than nate, but i do think to some extent, they’re similar that when things feel out of their control, it really stresses them out. i think it manifests at different times. i think for duncan its more trivial things whereas w nate, if he feels like he could be doing something to “fix” something and he cant do anything it freaks him out. hes a healer, you know. i think working out is a big stress reliever for him 🥺my strong baby!! that and goofing off w reader 🥺

T- Terror (What are they afraid of?)

-- this kinda ties into his weakness (and could be amplified by his younger years) but he’s afraid of not really being enough for those he loves. especially if he was teased as a kid 🥺maybe thats why in a lot of his nightmares the theme of abandonment appears a lot 🥺i made myself SAD 🥺

U- Unique (What is a quirk that is unique to them?)

-- i asked virgo anon for help on this one 🥺and i love her so much 🥺 nate tugs on his hair when he’s nervous 🥺 he gets a lil annoyed after he buzzes it off and doesnt have much to pull on 🥺he likes to hold hands when spooning. loves to sing along to disney movies (but lets be honest, he’s the real prince KING)

BUT if needed!!! he will throw down. (ex. when dunc wouldnt let y/n leave the house. and then attacked him!! nate had to stand his ground 😌

i really want to go collect pebbles outside for bonsai but it snowed last night so i CANT... um :) i keep trying to spend whole days cleaning my house but feels like its never going to be “done”. i’m super lonely lately because i mostly just hang out with my best friend and she’s travelling soon && has been busy.. my ex gf is ignoring me but that’s ok. i know i need to make friends but it’s really hard. i got a tinder but i sort of can’t bear to look at it. i just feel dread when i think of it. because im not comfortable with myself, but also because i don’t see anybody i think is sexi. 

i haven’t felt a very strong connection to someone new in years. not just romantically but as friends. actually, i don’t mean what i first said. i feel very strongly connected at times to specific strangers or distant acquaintances when i watch them or casually interact with them. i think this is a small delusion. i worry sometimes that i used to be heavily deluded about my relationships with others.

i can handle being deluded about strangers. a manager at a vegetable supplier, for example, came by the restaurant to drop off some garlic that was missing from our morning order. i was in the back chopping up raw chicken when he asked me to sign the invoice. as i was walking to the hand-washing sink i said,

“Give me a second, sorry, I have chicken-hands,” and he said “that’s okay.” in a really sweet genuine sounding way, somehow. i was amused by how un-casual he made it sound. most people would say ‘oh, no, take your time!’ or ‘no worries!’ much less emotively. he said “that’s okay” like he was actually trying to console me about a deep personal perceived flaw, so i said,

“Thank you for saying that. Most people say I’m a freak,” and he said,

“You know, you don’t really have chicken-hands... You just have... chicken-residue on your hands.”

I felt extremely connected to that guy.

Okay yall since I have a moment. Can i be real about the whole Abby x Mel thing.

I don't want it. Mel isn't in a relationship right now. Technically, Ruby said they were casual. So I took that from the writers as a hint not to get attached especially given how they have handled Mel's love life so far. But like I have 4 good reasons why doing the whole abbyxmel thing doesnt work for me.

1) Its wierd

Listen, I don't care that Abby had been hard pressed for Harry before. If they were to show she was over it then fine. But I can't get over HOW hard pressed for Harry abby was. Like girl straight up sexually harassed him even when he'd already said no. That's icky. To me it is weird that someone like Mel who has had a lot of storylines about consent would get with someone who clearly toes that line.

2) she is a murderer.

I am sorry y'all but she didnt just kill 2 witches. She made a copy of the poison and killed those two witches in the BNB. She technically killed the third witch who we dont know who she is or why or how she was kidnapped since Layla was supposedly taken from the bnb alone not with another witch. So that means that third witch that died telling Harry and Macy to save Layla was the third witch killed. Let's be honest, We dont know how many witches were kidnapped and probably tortured under Abby's orders. Abby was also prepared to let that 18 year old girl be burned alive in front of all the demon clans. Like y'all that isnt cutesy evil. That's straight up evil. While I am all about well written redemption arcs, I cant see how Mel could get past that especially given how she recognized her relationship with Niko was over after all that had happened between them. Like mel knows there are some lines you cant come back from in terms of being with that person. So I just cant.

3) I want Mel to be in a healthy relationship, but I would also prefer they just developed her character outside of relationships. That's why i was liking this Ruby fling because she is getting some loving but it doesnt have to be drama and they can focus on developing the character (not that the writers have done spectacular at it though). If they put Mel in a relationship I want it to be THE relationship I want it to be healthy. I dont want any of this BS that they pull with the other relationships they write. Like Abby is not the one. She is basically all drama and still mostly unknown to us. I mean I guess it would all depend on how they did write it, but I just am not feeling it. Although I love when mel and abby interact.

4) Y'all I dont think it is intentional but still it looks so bad to have treated the lesbian woc characters the way they have to then decide (maybe not. we all could just be reading into things too much) to make the white bisexual who has been pulling focus (not always well done) the new love interest. And that isnt an attack on bisexuals y'all. I'm just saying that they could have both bisexual and lesbian representation done well instead of doing both poorly and then disposing of one for the other.

I like Abby, I am not saying to kill her off, I am not saying the actress is in any way terrible.

I prefer her as a villian but a competent villian not as in incompetent villian and possible anti hero.

I think the character is a victim of bad writing saved only by the charm of the actress, which to be honestly sometimes isnt enough (again that's more on the writers).

I am not anti-bisexuals. I love when we see bisexual representation and understand that sometimes people, including those who are bisexual, love some of the evil bisexual or openly sexually active bisexual tropes. If it floats your boat I am not downing on you for it, I just think that some there is a difference (based on the way the character is written) between a well executed bisexual villian, and a poorly executed one. I dont think Abby is well done.

I also am not saying that you cannot have a bisexual switch partners between males and females or that lesbians shouldnt be with bisexuals. Nah. Love who you love. My issue is that sometimes I feel that Mel is the token lesbian and when they have had Mel in relationships (all of them before ruby were more or less serious or intended to be serious) they have treated her partners poorly (really it seems like the writers just cant handle relationships without drama) and as disposable.

Let's be serious here. Galvin made it through the season. Parker came back for season 2. Niko was gone half way through the season and then Mel was with Jada, and then Mel was sort of dancing around getting back with Niko and then the relationships were over. Mel would have liked to get serious with kat, but then she went away.

Now she has a casual thing going with Ruby and y'all want her to just leave that and get together with Abby? Let Mel breath and have a moment to at least have a relatively long lasting casual relationship. Casual, I know, doesnt mean forever but the ladies just barely started up. Let them have their moment. Damn.

I just think they need to give the lesbians some actually loving and consideration and the same for the bisexuals. I mean it really comes down to the writing. If they can do it in a way that doesn just mistreat the character of Ruby or feel like they are disposing of her then go ahead. But it's a super fine line there considering how they have treated Mel's love interests in the past.

Finally I am not saying that I would hate Abby x Mel and just be a hater the whole time. I am not uncomfortable with the idea based on the writing so far and the reasons I listed, but if the writing and the characters development improved then I might change my mind. But I think, same as with Hacy, there are fine lines to walk and if the writing isnt done well you can end up alienating the fans or even sending a racist or other type of prejudicial message. The writers just need to increase thier awareness and just realize that they have to be very careful with thier writing.

WHAT EXPECTATIONS DO YOU HOLD TOWARDS YOUR PLOTTING PARTNER:  i guess just be able to put up with my rambling and stopping and starting, a lot of characterisation choices i do go through various stages and its pretty messy so when i communicate that with others it usually ends up equally messy. just be patient with me please.

WHEN YOU NOTICE THE PLOTTING IS RATHER ONE-SIDED, WHAT DO YOU DO?:  i don’t mind! sometimes ppl have more ideas that they want to share first and i’m always super happy to listen to those ideas !! sometimes its nice to have someone with a clear guide or structure and be able to work around that rather than trying to fumble through a plot together.

HOW DO YOU USUALLY PLOT WITH OTHERS, DO YOU GIVE INPUT OR LEAVE MOST WORK TOWARDS YOUR PARTNER?:  i try to map out some basic info abt their characters that i otherwise don’t know from their bio or verses and try to pick out points of confrontation or similarities to expand on with giselle that can be used as points for like a starter to happen. its either that or sometimes i have really stupid ideas i just toss out there like ‘LMAO THEYRE BREAKING SHIT AT DISNEYLAND’ and go buck wild from there if the other person is down. i also always try to warn people or get a gauge for what subjects to avoid and steer clear of considering that giselle is a bit of a Freak(tm) and will say and do bad things.

WHEN A PARTNER DROPS THE THREAD, DO YOU WISH TO KNOW?:   YES / NO / DEPENDS. - And why?: if there’s something giselle did or said that upset you, i would love to know not to repeat it again (since i do still feel pretty new to the rp game, theres still plenty of time for me to make stupid mistakes). if its just a general lack of interest or uncertainty of where the plot should go, then you dont have to tell me i wont take it personally i promise !

WHY DO YOU RP AGAIN, IS THERE A GOAL?: to help with my confidence in writing! i have v bad anxiety when it comes to sharing my works and i write a lot of other pieces alongside this blog on ao3 and i want to develop my writing skills just in general. when it comes to like the nuts and bolts of why i rp giselle specifically, its mainly to just have fun and have a laugh w my friends who are really awesome quincy writers

WISHLIST, BE IT PLOTS OR SCENARIOS:  OH SO MANY! ive managed to fulfil a lot of my wishlist threads with like, giselle talking to characters she’s already zombified and i love all that angst but i want to do more stupid shit. i want to make it my personal goal to bully every quincy man and woman on sight. although a REAL dream would be if i got to write a thread zombifying a character who managed to escape giselle’s clutches. and more fighting! i want to get better at describing action and fights and i love to write giselle getting beat up and beating people up! more more more!! 

THEMES I WON’T EVER RP / EXPLORE:   hohoho theres a LOT... uh r*pe/dubcon threads for one, even if yeah i know writing it doesnt condone it, it makes me intensely uncomfortable to put my muse in that scenario, i feel like i have an obligation to like, protect her from that shit you know? racism is one i don’t want to transgress, even though i’m a poc, its not really cathartic or groundbreaking to write abt racism in threads its just... really fucking upsetting. also i know the quincy’s have this very close parallel to the whole n*zi imagery and ideology thing going on and i am not about to start even daring to thread that into my writing or bring those allusions and references of real life tragedies into giselle’s threads. i’ve already talked at length abt exploring giselles trans identity in rp and why im not comfortable doing so, so.... yeah! all those i guess.

WHAT TYPE OF STARTERS DO YOU PREFER / DISLIKE, CAN’T WORK WITH?: i like starters where giselle can just immediately get right into being a piece of shit. mise en scene and all that! cut out the build up and just get to the intense horror !! i don’t like starters where its not immediately clear where the characters are standing and what they’re doing and what’s happening around them. those really disorientate me and leave me kinda floundering because i always need some allusion or mention of a setting to ground giselle in a time and place other wise i cant tell what her response should be

WHAT TYPE OF CHARACTERS CATCH YOUR INTEREST THE MOST?:  EVIL WOMEN EVIL WOMEN EVIL WOMEN. also just characters i can wholeheartedly clown on, or also characters who have hidden depths to them and have a single panel of screentime. honestly it’s just all over the place!

WHAT TYPE OF CHARACTERS CATCH YOUR INTEREST THE LEAST?:  angry old men GSADJDKSJA i could never rp yhwach for example or yamamoto because idk. theyre just so crummy and boring to me. i also couldnt rp characters who always have an upper hand in battle like aizen. i like my dumbasses and i like them stupid and adaptive not just, ‘yes i know this because i Know this.’

WHAT ARE YOUR STRONG ASPECTS AS RP PARTNER?: i think im nice...? FKSJDKDJSA idk i hate trying to toot my own horn. sometimes i also think i make funny jokes and im pretty chill and laid back

WHAT ARE YOUR WEAK ASPECTS AS RP PARTNER?: my writing style is inconsistent and adapts to whatever i’m reading so sometimes it’ll be really good and i love it and other times it reads like really bad fanfic and i get carried away far too easily and write novella lengths for threads which should be much shorter. i also get shy a lot and dont think i communicate very effectively but HEYO we’re working on it!

- ANYTHING YOU WOULD NOT WANT TO RP THERE?:  theres a few kinks and such but i dont think they’d ever really come up. again, just mainly no r*pe/dubcon.

Pancho

•Julien; Julien is like a brother or cousin to Pancho! He trusts the king more than anything after Julien basically saved .. well himself, but also him. any scheme Julien comes up with that he knows Maurice wouldnt approve of, he’ll go to pancho

•Maurice; maurice has a kind of wary vibe around Pancho ever since Pancho suggested eating him on the sub in exiled. he’s suspicious of him mainly because he wants to protect Julien tho, & he cant shake that Pancho is (or was) a sleeper agent programmed with the sole purpose of killing his best friend so

•Clover: Pancho is kinda cautious around clover since she’s always round the corner ready to bust him & Andy’s schemes. when it comes down to it they DO work together as they aknowledge each others skillsets. literally pancho is the only lemur (from the kingdom) who’s beaten Clover in combat. just once though.

•Mort; Pancho just......aknowlegdes his existance. he’s there i guess. doesn’t find mort as terrifying & creepy as the average citizen but Panch has probably seen worse. or he just doesn’t care. mort also does crimes so theyre just aware of each other.

•Becca & Abner; he’s kinda friends with them cus Andy’s friends with them. he goes round to deliver them stuff sometimes like moonshine or weapons from Andy. He probably shouldn’t pay too much attention to their government conspiracy theories though, they tend to really freak his paranoid ass out

•Timo; Timo is scared of Pancho or at least wary. He admittadly would like to study him tho & Panch is often a great help to him doing manual labour for any of Timo’s big projects

•Masikura; she mindmelded with him once & swore never again. she just doesn’t wanna know.

•Ted; Ted has a lil crush on Pancho (he’s one of Ted’s many crushes) & Panch will lightly flirt with him sometimes when he’s in the mood to. Pancho will bicker & grouch with him but they are really tight friends especially after their time together during exiled.

•Dorothy; at first she saw Pancho as this ideal bad boy type, but then realised how bad he smells cus he hates bathing. She’ll offer him tea like she does with everyone & (begrudingly often) lets him crash with her & Ted when they all stumble back drunk after a night out. Literally her & Ted both just have a mutual crush on Pancho is that not canon though

•Willie; despite being mean to Willie like EVERYONE ELSE IS Pancho and Willie are quite good friends. He’ll go stay with him whenever he’s worried about something cus he knows Willie will understand. sometime’s he’s too panicky for Pancho to be around though cus it sets him off

•Hector; I WANT THEM TO BOND OVER MILITARY HARDSHIPS & EXPERIENCE I THINK IT WOULD BE HELPFUL & HEALING FOR THE BOTH OF THEM! I should write about this sometime..........

•Horst; the DJ friend who he can always have a crazy sesh with; they actually get along pretty good. except when Pancho’s out here stealing his bolos. Like with everyone, Horst just rambles to Pancho when he’s drunk.

•Tammy, Butterfish & Todd; no real connection to them besides that him & Butterfish will often do the same jobs. They usually just make casual work chat. Tammy thinks Pancho is posessed by demons but he doesn’t let that phase him.

•Karl: he’s not rlly a “kingdom citizen” but he’s about there enough so. anyway Pancho just doesn’t treat Karl like the evil genius villain he portrays at all, since Pancho’s own morality is in the grey area, which kinda infuriates Karl that Pancho just talks to him like hes a normal person. he wants Julien’s people to FEAR HIM!!

•Dr. S; Absolutely not. they don’t even really have a friendship of any kind & Pancho is terrified of going to see the doctor as Dr. S literally experiments on lemurs...he’s not about that after what happened with the previous king.......Andy often has to drag him to the hospital kicking & biting to get him to go to checkups

•Nurse Phantom; u know what they’ve never interacted in canon but I think Nurse Phantom senses how troubled & anxious he is & takes a lot of time to talk to Pancho like if ever Andy or anyone else manages to drag him to the hospital, Rob will hold his hand if it comes to it; he goes into major helpful mode like offering him fruit & telling him he’s gonna be alright. He’ll also scold him for getting into so many dangerous scrapes & tells him he’s gotta look after himself!

Andy

•Julien; for some reason Julien just refuses to exile him even after all the bad shit he’s done BUT i think that’s because Andy is overall helpful to him like he ignores all the weirdness for example when they walked in on him & that rat holding a body wrapped in leaves because hey! we need tropheys Andy fast! thats the issue here!! perhaps its Julien’s awful adhd memory though & he just genuinely forgets. Julien is close with Pancho of course so Andy’s been round to the plane for parties & dinner as Pancho’s +1 of sorts— heck even he can be “polite” when he has to be.

•Maurice; Momo hates him. hates him hates him theres no turning back. i mean its hard not to when most of the citizens suffer from rediculous lemur stupidity & ur the only one who can see through this bat when he’s just standing there chatting shit. Very suspicious of Andy— plus he just thinks he’s creepy

•clover; LMAO bUT .....like obviously she hates him for good reason. but i do have this hc that’s way too long to write out that after Julien, Maurice & Mort literally fucked off to go with the zoosters in madagascar 2 Clover was literally responsible for two kingdoms cus she couldnt just leave them with a gecko in charge. I just want some situation where theres a proper twist & Andy ends up mellowing the hell out & actually being useful to her & the kingdom...he has skills but he uses them for nefarious reasons. She’d probably save his life somehow in the post-Julien chaos & he’d b like....”why would YOU of all people save ME?” n she’d b like... “well you are technically a citizen of this kingdom and ....i’ve gotta make sure you’re ALL safe for when ..... if King Julien ever gets back.....”

•mort; ??? sometimes theyre legit business partners. Mort can get in on a good scam. that second rub’s gonna cost ya. theyve probably been in the same prison before at one point. Mort’s so old.

•Becca & Abner; his fellow anti-establishment pals!! he doesn’t fully believe all of their ideas & theories but he loves em cus they’ll always buy self defence scorps off him. They get along & they drink a lot together by the stagnant watering hole. they’ve seen Andy in horrible states; all 3 of them are an idiot squad when theyre together. Becca & Andy argue a lot cus even she thinks some of the things he says are wack sometimes

•Timo; i have this hc that Timo, Andy & Karl knew each other when they were kids they kinda bonded together during school cus they were three non-lemur losers who got bullied for their eccentricity & varying levels of intelligence. Timo will sometimes go to Andy for stuff but he is his last resort really

•Masikura; probably mindmelded with him once & just saw a vision of him daydreaming about being kissed by Pancho & since then she was like. “Im not scared of the bird demon he’s just a big softie. where is my shipment of “ect” for my tea, that bird demon’s late again—“

•Ted; Ted is such an easy mark he can sell almost anything to him if he’s cheery enough. Helps that Ted thinks he’s really cute so Andy can just easily sweet talk him into buying whatever dodgy product he’s got at the moment. he knows & interacts with Ted mainly through Pancho being his friend!

•Dorothy; rlly wild hc actually that Dorothy used to be a propper crime don before she settled down with Ted— or when Ted was shifting into Snake more frequently back in the day for whatever reason—so Andy knows her from the criminal underworld. Cus of this he’s very respectful towards her... he’s seen what she’s capable of

•Willie; Andy could walk round the corner with his wings outstretched & say “boo” & Willie would pass out from shock. He’s also very easy for Andy to sell to- his fearmongering really works on Willie he’s very suseptable to it

•Hector; Hector doesn’t take any of Andy’s crap he’d probably just hit him with a broom if he came round his hut to sell him dodgy hand cream honestly

•Horst; Andy keeps him topped up with a steady supply of beverages...........Horst will actually sometimes ask him & Pancho for help with importing various new vinyl records

•Tammy, Butterfish & Todd; that family buys a LOT of product off him since they’re just typical americans basically he finds it rlly easy & reliable to sell stuff like drinks & toys to them. Tammy kinda hates Andy though & like Pancho, thinks he’s a demon. Doesn’t help that Mort nicknamed him “bird demon”.

•Karl; like with Timo i hc he knew him when they were in highschool—! Karl found Andy infuriating & so annoying though & didn’t consider him a friend at all. a lot of his early lazer guns were born from Karl’s growing need to shoot Andy out of the sky cus he’d fly up to get out of reach of his claws when he’d annoyed him.

•Dr. S; i hc that Andy and Dr.S are business or trading partners of sorts but they keep it very lowkey. Andy probably handles hits and the crazy snake doctor requires bodies and “test subjects” for his manic experiments. Andy is the perfect guy for the job! When Nurse Phantom is unable, Andy will hide the evidence of Dr.S’ malpractice for a reasonable fee, of course. He dislikes going to checkups himself though— he doesn’t like people knowing too much about him! Plus Dr.S always “””jokes””” about “””studying””” him because he finds the fact Andy is a flying mammal facinating & talks about using Andy’s wings to create a frankenstein flying lemur.

•Nurse Phantom; Rob just lectures him about being reckless & getting into fights everytime he sees him. Kinda the same as Dr. S really, but he does tell him like.. Hey I used to be pretty mean & put people in danger too. And that there’s always time to turn another leaf. Andy usually just scoffs, collects his paycheck, & leaves.

Hello and welcome everyone to Comic Tea Party’s Week Long Book Club~! This week we’ll be focusing on Beyond Bloom by NiaNook~! (http://beyondbloom.webcomic.ws/)

QUESTION 1. What has been your favorite scene in the comic so far? What specifically did you like about it?

QUESTION 2. In what ways do you think Yokiro will find a way to be helpful to Tatsuma and Sikue (if any)? Overall, how do you foresee him growing and changing as a person over the course of his journey?

1. Hmm... I'd say the burning building rescue from Book 3. I loved seeing Tatsuma putting aside her hangups and actually helping people for once - even if she claimed she was only doing so to protect Sikue. And I loved the frank conversation Tatsuma and Yokiro had on the cliffside after the fact. I also really like this scene http://beyondbloom.webcomic.ws/comics/120/ of Sikue and the fireflies. It's just such a cute interaction between Sikue and Yokiro! 2. I think he's already been helpful - he's taught them about humanity. Though I would love if during the final encounter with the big bad benta boss Yokiro saves the day using his fishing skills XD

My favourite scene was probably the scene where they fight Ginari and Evalkol—it showed that the three main characters are loyal to each other even when they disagree, and it was really cool to see so many characters in action

1) My favorite scene is probably the one where Yokiro caught Sikue playing with bugs and dancing...and then falling flat on her fact. Not only were the illustrations really beautiful, but I liked the blend of cute, comedy, and...mysticism for lack of a better word. It really sticks with me cause I think it was such a great bonding moment between the characters despite nothing of immense significance happening. 2) I have to agree with @snuffysam on this. I think Yokiro has already been kind of helpful. Not just in teaching them about humanity and how humanity isn't awful, but also by being the most practical between them. Cause like he thought of the toothbrushes (not that they for sure need it, but its the thought that counts). Of course, I think Yokiro might find other ways to help. Like maybe learn to hit people with a giant stick. I do think through the journey though Yokiro is gonna find his calling though. Maybe as just some charity guy who helps ppl. Opens an orphanage. Something like that.

3) My favorite character is probably Sikue if for no other reason than I like her design. Shes really cute but also has this sort of elegance about her despite the circumstances. Plus, between the three, I'd characterize Sikue as the hope of the group since shes caring, considerate, etc. I guess in otherwords, she's the glue that keeps the train going. 4) From what we've seen so far, it seems the others are based on animals, versus Tatsuma and Sikue who were plants. So a lot more might have gone into them, thus giving them access to more special abilities. However, I think that story about them being eternity flowers has a lot to do with it. Maybe they're strong just because their natures are so entertwined. So in a way nothing they cant conquer as long as theyre together.

5) As partly mentioned, my fave illustration is definitely this huge panel one of Sikue, Yokiro, and the fireflies. http://beyondbloom.webcomic.ws/comics/125/ The combination between the night sky and fireflies is breathtaking, and the angle really sells the beauty of it to me. 6) I do think the three will find some way to belong in the world, but a long time from now and eventually. The feeling of belonging, imo, is one that comes from confidence and self-acceptance. And I kind of don't think any of them are even close to that mental juncture. They're still asking who they are, why they exist, what should they do with themselves, etc. And these are the sorts of feelings that will make you feel isolated even if you have a large community who likes you all around you. Which I guess, this is what I think the story will teach us about what it means to belong. It doesn't mean fitting in, it doesn't necessarily even mean having a large community. Belonging is something that is just as much about loving yourself for the good and the bad and having the confidence that no one can tell you otherwise.

7) I probably like seeing Sikue and Yokiro interact the most. I like seeing how Yokiro is help expose other sides to Sikue, since Sikue is a lot less forward about stuff than Tatsuma. Thus, it's like getting to delve into a mystery. 8) I think Ginari is gonna stay pretty loyal to the Keeper, if only because of the answer to the next question. I don't think Ginari will ever forgive them for killing her dragon, because she'd also have to forgive herself. Thus, she will always have a grudge against them even if she somehow left the Keeper. Honestly, if she doesn't wind up dying a tragic death, I will be super duper surprised. >_>;;;;

9) I appreciate the balance of nature. Since the story features them traveling in a lot of forests, it's there a lot. However, it's not always super detailed or super obviously present. Like sometimes it's simplified and cut back, whereas other times it takes up a good chunk of the panel and is super detailed. I think this works really well, though, as it allows the nature to functionally add atmosphere to key moments, whether isolation, mysticism, or something else needs to be conveyed. 10) Ya know, I'm not sure the Keeper has an end goal. Maybe the Keeper just wants to prove what true power is or something like that. I do think regardless of goals, part of the creationg was derived just from the idea that the Keeper thought they could do it. And when you can do something, why not do it? I think the Keeper intends to trick them into coming by making them desire answers to question with the assumption the Keeper knows the answers. As for outcome, ya know, abuse their powers to do jerk things. The usual.

This comic is unique in that even though it focuses on super-powered beings, the story doesn’t have a lot of fighting, instead it’s more like a casual adventure story following the journey of three characters and every once in awhile goes to some mysterious anti-heroes and bad guys. Nobody take insult from this but it actually reminds me of the original Ice Age movie. (I love that movie so I don’t mean it in a bad way)(edited)

11) I think the comic's strengths lie in the characters. The designs are really clean and stand out against each other. There's also interesting elements incoporated to reflect the plant and animal natures. The intereactions are also a lot of fun and come with both drama and comedy, so the comic has a little something for everyone. 12) I have mixed feelings about Yokiro's handling of it. I think it's nice, but I also think eventually that forgiving nature is gonna bite him in the butt. Cause sometimes second chances just explode and it doesn't work as well as it did in that specific scenario. However, I think it's a good message about how all people are different and just cause our first impression isnt good, it could change if we take the time to get to know someone. And I think that is the takeaway of the story in terms of forgiveness. Not all the time, but sometimes it's worth trying to understand why someone would do something awful.

13) I am looking forward to seeing Yokiro grow and evolve more and what he'll contribute to the group some more. I'm always fascinated by the dynamics between super powered people and then the non-super powered companions, cause theres a lot of emotional exploration of inferiority complexes available there. 14) I assume the lady was just some random lady who found Tatsuma and Sikue and took them in because the lady seemed nice. And I assume they caused a fire, lady died, everyone blamed them. Or something like that. I'm taking Occam's Razor with this one and assume it's the most common assumption.

my final thoughts to share are... this comic is incredible. truly incredible. a lovable cast of characters at every level, and downright stunning art pieces. keep at it, nia~!

Didn't have time to get to every question, but here are some responses! 1) The part in Book 4 where Yokiro and Sikue meet in the forest stands out. It's a simple moment, but it feels very important. The illustration complements the emotions of the scene perfectly - as these two characters are starting to open up to each other for the first time, the black and white page blooms (lol pun) into color and the panels drift into a more loose and organic arrangement. It's super well done. 2) In a way, he's helpful because he's someone who they can trust. The three of them share the experience of being somewhat isolated from the world at large, so I think that they all benefit from knowing each other. Yokiro is definitely helpful when dealing with people, but I think that he's still conflicted about leaving his old life behind. He mentioned at one point that he had a family, so I wouldn't be surprised if he runs into them eventually. 3) It's hard to choose, but Tatsuma is my fave. I like how she's tough and prone to messing around a lot of the time, but she's very determined to protect the people she cares about. With the fire in the village and in the situation with Kenber, she believed that it would be smarter to stay out of trouble, but she was willing to jump in without hesitation to help Sikue and Yokiro. 5) The first page of Book 3. Its portrayal of dialectical exchange between two legendary philosophers is simply astounding. :3

8) I think that she will, at least for a while. I don't think that she'd want to abandon the other benta. She was genuinely concerned for Mae's wellbeing, and she got along well with Elvalkol for the most part. It seems like she has some personal history with the Keeper - their interactions were a bit more familiar than what you'd expect if they were just a boss and his lieutenant, and since she's apparently opposed to what he's doing, she might try to confront him at some point. It's hard to imagine her forgiving Tatsuma and Sikue. Aside from killing her dragon, the two may have some importance to the Keeper's plans. 9) I agree with RebelVampire, the forest backgrounds are always nice and complementary to the atmosphere. The sound effects represented as words (...idk what they're called, onomatopoeias?) are used to a good effect too. They're never just the usual generic sound effects, they always seem custom-tailored to each specific situation. :D 11) The characters are a fantastic aspect of the comic. The dynamic between the main three makes it so fun to read. Also, the comic is good at presenting little insights and hints about the world throughout the characters' journey. It's kinda hard to explain, but the world feels very 'alive' and vibrant. 12) Yokiro was patient and demonstrated good will with Kenber, and it seemed to make a real impression on the kid, so it's hard not to view what he did as commendable. I really liked that arc. 13) I'm excited to potentially see the benta settlement. It sounds like a decent place from Elvalkol's description, but I wonder what's it really like with the Keeper in charge? Seeing Yokiro's family would be cool as well. Anyways, final thoughts: this comic really does feel special in a way. The characters are memorable, and all of the different parts of it are treated with care.

They traded texts. Sometimes the other was busy, and no reply would come, or replies were so sporadic it didn’t amount to much. But every few days or so, there would be an actual conversation. Usually it wasn’t about anything important. Something a roommate did, a news story, or some other random topic.  

It was Friday. Madge was bored, waiting for cells to incubate in the lab so she could finish an assay. She had time to kill. Her thoughts had strayed to something that had needled her. She picked up her phone. Set it down. Picked it up.

Madge 4:14pm So I have a question

Gale 4:17pm um ok? Madge 4:17pm So. Do you have a different safety text if you like, bring someone home? Or go home with someone else?

Gale 4:20pm hot date?

Madge 4:21pm ha. No really it makes sense right? What if something happens

Madge 4:23pm Right. Because rape only happens in back alleys with strangers. Or I could just join a nunnery so then i’ll never have to worry about my safety ever again anyway

Sometimes he did this. She wasn’t sure exactly what it was or if it was even on purpose. Flirting because it was just normal to him. Teasing her. Whatever it was, she tried to ignore it. She really did. Unsuccessfully, because holy shit. And it seemed to be escalating. And maybe she wanted it, and that was why she brought up things like  🌮 versus  😻. But still. It was a dangerous game to play with someone she couldn’t date.

I love taco tuesday, and I might want to invite people to eat actual tacos  I could probably talk my roomie into it, she’s all about her latinx heritage I should be able to use 🌮 without people thinking it’s a come on

There are some risks there and so when those risks don’t apply, you say so. And it’s more fun than a bunch of “home safe” messages. I never said sex. You made it about sex.

Madge 4:44pm I just want to understand the protocols here. Like, if I am safely to where I will be for the night but it’s not home? Do I include that? Is there a second safety text in the morning? Or if someone comes home with me, that’s like, an additional risk factor. With or without the sex. So fine let’s assume it’s for sex, then it’s a bit braggadocious to be like “🖕⛄️ 🐸 I’m about to have sex now”

Madge clicked on the links. One was for “street taco” and the other was for a lesbian bar called “cubbyhole.”  Thank God her phone was not on the office wifi.

When Madge arrived at “Street Taco” which was actually a festively decorated sit-down taqueria, the place was packed. Gale was already there, hunched near the doorway waiting for a table and looking at his phone. Wearing layers starting with a button-down collared shirt, followed by a dark sweater, and ending with a winter coat, he looked different, practically cleancut. Suddenly she felt a wave of shyness, but she threw that feeling aside, walked over and nudged his elbow.

He gave her a sidelong glance. “Hey,” he said with a small smile, still typing something with his thumbs. A moment later he pocketed the phone.

“Why do people eat so late here?” She grumbled.

“Because nobody works 9 to 5 in this city?” Gale suggested. “Congratulations - looks like you’re becoming a New Yorker. Why were you at work so late on a Friday night anyway?”

“Typical lab work,” Madge said. She started to explain but the hostess had buzzed Gale’s phone. Their table was ready. 

Once they were seated Gale looked at her with raised eyebrows. “Don’t tell me you’ve given up on the librarian look already?” he questioned.

She bit back a smile. “I’m just saving it for work now. It’s amazing how effective a frumpy cardigan and sneakers can be. That, and I’m wearing a lab coat half the time anyway.” Now that he’d shed his winter coat, she realized why he looked different. He’d gotten a haircut.

“Right, lab coats. What were you saying about work?”

Madge tried to explain it briefly. “So, we have a lot of protocols that require incubation periods between each step. Some stages can sit overnight and others can’t so you work out the best schedule but there are always long days. I’m actually lucky I haven’t had to go in on the weekend yet.”

“Well I guess finding the cure for cancer isn’t going to be easy,” Gale joked.

Madge groaned. “You did not just say that.”

“What?”

Madge retorted. “The Cure for cancer? Are you serious? So, that’s a total misconception. There is no research targeting *quote* A cure for cancer. It’s not one disease. It’s a whole bunch of diseases that are lumped together.” She huffed and counted on her fingers,”Lymphomas and leukemias and sarcomas and tumors just for a start - and none of those are just one disease with a simple cure waiting to be found either.”

“Okay,” Gale replied.

Madge realized she was rambling and on her soapbox but she couldn’t stop herself. “It’s just one of those things that people don’t get and it’s really frustrating. I mean, telling people I work on pharmaceutical effects on the cellular regulation of apoptosis in diseased cells it would make no sense to anyone outside the field.” Proof in point, she knew from his expression it meant nothing to him. She continued, “so I say, hey I work on cancer drugs, but then people get this idea that we’re gonna find some magical solution that cures everything and that’s not how it works.”

Gale smirked. “Definitely not easy then.”

“Fine. I shouldn’t have brought it up anyway,” Madge frowned. “It’s just been a long day.”

“Well, I like you explaining it. Even if it sounds like greek to me. I don’t know jack about that stuff.”

They checked out the menu and ordered food. It didn’t take long to get their food, which slowed down the conversation. Gale asked how things were going with her phone-obsessed roommate, but really Madge had no complaints about Cressida. They didn’t even interact that much, at least not yet. Gale apparently had two roommates in a 3-bedroom apartment. They’d all met playing soccer and apparently got on fairly well.

“Have you seen Thom lately?” Madge asked. Thom had asked her all about Gale and what she thought after their last dinner together. Eventually Madge had told him he should just talk to Gale if he was so curious. She couldn’t see Thom and Gale together now, despite their history, but she felt maybe she owed it to Thom to pry a bit.

“We talked last week I think,” Gale guessed, sounding casual.  “I take it you two are pretty close?”

“Yeah, you know, college bonding. Late nights. We’ve both needed someone ..  He’s my guy, you know? I mean, my platonic guy friend guy. Obviously.”

“How did you meet him?” he asked.

“Theater program. I worked tech backstage,” she explained. “So we were in the same dorm freshman year but we really bonded during A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum that spring.”

“Only backstage?” He was teasing her. “Did you figure you’d had your 15 minutes of fame? Princess?” 

Madge rolled her eyes. “Funny. So my acting coach for the pageants told me my acting was ‘pedestrian’ and I guess I decided that was a good thing. Backstage was more fun anyway. Like in Forum, Thom didn’t have that big a role, so he had lots of time to hang out backstage.”

“And you’ve been BFFs ever since?” Gale joked. 

“Sort of. I don’t think either one of us realized it when school ended. We just knew it was sad to go home. Then we talked all the time that summer. I had some stuff going on and he came out to his family, so I guess it was a pretty eventful year.”

“Was it hard for him? Coming out?”

Madge shrugged. “I guess so, yeah. Isn’t it always? He can tell you. But I don’t think his parents were that surprised? It was more the extended family.” Madge felt a little uncomfortable talking about Thom’s outing, so she turned the tables. “It’s gotta be tough though. I mean, you’ve been there. Was yours hard?”

Gale paused. “Well, yeah. Coming out was hard. You stand on the precipice so many times before you finally just do it, because no matter what your mom says, you’ve heard all this shit about it being a choice and burning in hell. School, church, fucking little league coaches.” Gale sighed. “I hoped it would be easier for Thom though. He was so sure of who he was and you know, the whole theater thing. I just felt like I was lost in the woods, waiting for some sign.  We barely knew gay people existed in high school. Where we came from, we’d never even heard the word bisexual, let alone pan. It was confusing. Took me awhile to figure out that I didn’t have to choose gay or straight.”

Madge almost choked on her taco. “You’re -” she cut herself off. PAN! Pansexual! Her mind screamed it at her. In all honesty she wasn’t sure exactly what that meant but she was pretty sure it was something like bisexual. There was no way she was going to admit her ignorance now. Plus he’d just laid down some pretty serious stuff and her first reaction was to his orientation. Not cool. Quickly she tried to cover. “I mean, yeah. That sucks. You came out as pan though? I just didn’t think about you coming out. As pan. To your family. Are they ...” She paused to take a long sip of her drink. “Are they supportive?”

“I’m so blessed there,” Gale had apparently been distracted enough by everything else he’d just said to realize that being pan was a revelation to her. “My mom,” he told her, “is amazing. It was definitely hard for her - I mean she is deeply religious and by then I’d brought home a few girlfriends. She’s 100% supportive though. She tries so much.”

“That’s good,” Madge said weakly. She was getting way too much new information here and was having trouble keeping up.

After a minute Gale added, “you’re right though. I think a lot of pan people only ever come out partway. They say they’re bi or gay or straight, if they can. But when I finally figured out that there was a name for my feelings, I couldn’t give that up.”

“Right,” Madge agreed. “You shouldn’t have to. It’s like Thom says. You do you.”

So I just finished s01 of Shadowhunters and I have some thinky thoughts about it. I’m putting it under the cut because it’s not all positive (well, most of it isnt really) and if you are a die-hard malec shipper, you should probably skip this.

Overall, I think my opinion so far can be summed up as this show has a lot of potential to be really good and interesting and nobody seems to want to do anything about it. I mean the set up is great - demons threatening the world? Awesome. A secret society of warriors whose purpose is to protect the world? Nice. Magic? Warlocks? AU worlds? Perfect. Class issues between the races? Homophobia? Relevant and important concepts to tackle. So in theory everything is great. But in practice? Not so much.

I think the two main issues this season has are 1) thngs happening way too fast and not enough time and focus given to certain topics and characters in order to understand their motivations and the worldbuilding of this universe and 2) the problem with show, dont tell - that is to say we keep being told things but almost never shown anything to actually back up these claims.

Now I know there are time limits and you cant fit everything into a single episode or even a single season and you shouldnt have to. I’m not saying they should have crammed everything into 13 episodes. That is not the issue. The problem is that when topics that should be given due focus and time within the specific episode arent, things get confusing. For example, why did Alec decide to marry Lydia? We find out in the next episode that he’s decided to restore the family honor on his own terms after finding out about his parents’ past. Which is great. We have Alec’s motivation. But in the episode itself where he proposed everything was set up for him to follow his heart. That was the theme of the episode and Alec through the entire thing kept agreeing with Magnus and whoever else was telling him to do what he wants. Only for him to turn around simingly out of nowhere in the literal last minute of the episode and decide to get married. Dont get me wrong, I dont have a problem with him NOT choosing to follow his heart given the situation but there wasnt enough focus on his struggle between the two during the episode in order to make his last-minute turn seem less weird. And that doesnt even cover Lydia’s side of thngs. Why did she decide to get married to a literal stranger after meeting him like yesterday? And this is not an exxageration - Alec proposes literally 2 or 3 days max after Lydia shows up. Is she that desperate to run an institute? Wouldnt she be allowed to have the position if she’s not married? Why does it even matter - doesnt it make more sense to give her the position based on her skills and results on the job? We dont know. But these are the sort of worldbuilding questions you might want to answer.

This is just one example of how things are going way too fast and there’s not enough time given to explain the characters and universe properly. There are more but if I keep going, we’ll be here tomorrow too. I’m not even gonna bother to cover all the scenes that just flat out do not make sense cause then we’ll never leave.

The other thing bothers me even more - there are sooo many things we are TOLD but never really SHOWN - Alec has been in love with Jace for I dont know how many years, Alec is repressed, the SH society is homophobic (admittedly we are not told this in canon, I dont believe? but that is at least the implication made), Magnus is in love with Alec and Alec feels the same, Magnus is a centuries-old warlock, one of the most powerful people in the world, Ragnor is even more powerful, etc etc. But. Where is the evidence? If Alec has spent so long being in love with Jace and repressed, wouldnt it have been more difficult for Magnus to get him to agree to a date than one half-assed phone call? Wouldnt Alec be struggling even more with accepting that Magnus is interested and panicking about what to do, denying everything with all his might? Shouldnt there be more struggle here?

So far I havent seen any signs of anyone in the Institute being homophobic. Maybe that changes in s02 but so far? Nope. Even Alec’s parents whom fandom for some reason has decided to demonize as some kind of terrible scumbags are not homophobic and actually hella decent people all things considered. Lydia is not homophobic. The goddamn Silent Brother seemed more interested in the kissing scene than anything else.

Warlocks are supposed to be hella powerful yet Magnus needed Alec’s help to fight off ONE circle member and Ragnor got killed by a TINY demon thingy that even Clary can handle. We were told Magnus cares so much about that necklace he’d risk his life to get it back yet 5mins later just casually gives it away to Izzy and doesnt mention it again. 

Clary and co LOVE to make these passionate speeches about how they’re the new generation of shadowhunters who respect the downworlders and believe everyone is their equal and the Clave is wrong - yet the moment a downworlder refuses to help them, they have no problem blackmailing, focing, lying and going behind their back to get what they want. And this is admittedly not a bad thing to show that these people despite their good intentions cant just change over night, if the narrative at least acknowledged their hypocrisy as a sign they need to grow some more but it doesnt.

Again, I an keep going but I wont. And finally there’s Malec. By all accounts I think this is the thng that disaapointed me the most. It could have been so awesome if developed properly! Like again we have a great set up - two people from opposite sides of the war, leaders to their respective groups, meeting and falling in love against all odds - it’s basically every enemies to friends to lovers fic ever and it’s AWESOME. Except not really because the way they play it in canon is just what even? So they meet and Magnus is obviously sexually attracted to Alec and wants to pursue that. Cool. Alec is... feeling whatever it is he’s feeling, I honestly cant even tell if he was interested from the start or just happy someone was paying attention to him. I suppose that stuttering scene when Magnus introduces himself is supposed to show he’s interested. Or something. Then Magnus calls to ask him on a date which yay, makes sense with how eager he was when they met. And then Alec agrees. And this is where things start going wonky for me.  Why does he agree so easily? Isnt he supposed to be in love with Jace? Isnt he supposed to be terrified of anyone finding out he’s gay? Next scene after they heal Luke, Magnus goes you’ve unlocked something in me and I go was it your dick? Because this line for all its romantic vibe and whatnot in the context we’ve been presented so far makes no sense. Because now the show wants me to believe that Magnus fell in love at first sight. Except this is not how they played it - what I saw was Magnus being really fricking horny. I did not see any grand revelations of omg, I just fell in love for the first time in over a century with this hot piece of shadowhunting ass I just met. Now I’m supposed to believe Malec has had enough development and enough scenes together to warrant such a strong emotional reaction from Magnus two episode after meeting Alec and after like 2? 3? scenes interacting with him. Insert the sure jan gif here.

Fast forward to the wedding - awesome scene really. Kiss and all (such a hot kiss and I ask why arent they kissing like that in s02 instead of these we’ve been married for 50years and cant wait for one of us to die already pecks?). But again, it only works if you ignore the context and take it as a stand alone scene. Because otherwise the emotional depth that it’s supposed to have? Goes out the window to stand besides all the emotional and mental development that was needed between them in order to make the scene really work and resonate on a deep level. And dont even get me started on how wrong Magnus acted at the beginning of the episode.

I can buy - at a push, a big big BIG push - that Magnus fell in love from the start but I absolutely do not believe Alec did as well. Honestly, I dont believe he loves Magnus even now in s02 (I havent watched it yet but I have enough context about some of their key scenes to say this, there is no way I man in love would tell his boyfriend not to take a treath to his life PERSONALLY, amongst other things). And that is just sad. Because this could have been a great love story, all the fire and passion and fireworkd like we keep getting told there is but what we see is something different.

mvs im kind of in love with (a wip)

#wyd by ikon - i love this one because i feel like with boy band mvs they often fall into the weird “6 boys (sometimes literally) chasing the same girl which proves most writers and directors and stuff are male because any woman would know that said girl would be scared for her life)” trope and this mv is the complete opposite, and portrays romance, or rather the cutesy precursor to romance (yes things aren't/shouldnt be inherently romantic but the vibe and interactions and overall feeling of the this song/mv hints at romance so well, i’m more than okay with it. it’s romantic, but this kind of romantic i support) so well. it’s rarely dramatic (or at least not the mv type of dramatic) and there’s not usually a GROUNDBREAKING moment where you confess your undying love for each other and live happily ever after. those kinds of stories can sometimes feel like more of a caricature of real life, whereas this feels like a snapshot of real life. it does an excellent job of showing those small little moments in the honey moon phase that lead up to romance. the characters are tiptoeing around each other and there’s nothing explicitly romantic but the combination of the music and visuals are enough; nothing needs to be explicitly romantic. one of my favourite things about mvs like this is that i don’t feel like i need to know the words theyre singing in order to understand. it just sort of speaks for itself in its own way and it portrays the emotions its trying to show so well since it doesnt solely rely on the lyrics.   airplane (which i also really like, but not enough for it to make it on to the list “officially) does a similar thing,  and i like that it has more of an arch than this one, but i do feel like looking up the lyrics for that made a lot more sense. at first i felt that the third wheeling/””friendzone”” (for the lack of a better word) thing felt a bit out of place and like they were trying to tell 2 different stories at once but now i feel like it’s just trying to portray a more fleshed out relationship 

i am you, you are me by zico - this is my favourite music video of all time (i love the entirety of inu/run/the prologue etc more but that counts as more of a ‘mv series’ in my mind and you cant compare the two since they’re trying to achieve such different things). i feel overwhelmed by how much i love this mv every time i watch it. i genuinely can’t handle it and i have so many thoughts, starting to talk about it is kind of intimidating and i’ve been putting it off for ages.  several months later: OK I REWATCHED IT LETS DO THIS. every time i watch this mv i am overwhelmed by how much i love it. every time im like “it cant be as good as i remember” but then it is. watching it just makes me feel so soft and warm and quiet. there’s nothing in the whole mv that feels out of place. i love the clothes, i love the hair, i love how natural everything feels. the set is phenomenal, it creates this strange, distant, otherworldly, completely independent little universe. the products that are perfectly lined up and the lights and the way colour and the flickering of the light/the tv is being used makes it feel a bit like a dream. the sparkle at the beginning also gives it a fairy tale kind of vibe. it just feels surreal, blending reality and fantasy in a really god way. the close ups of the people/the sets are being used in the perfect moments, it just creates this beautiful balance that just works so well together. there’s a lot going on, but it never feels like its too much. i love love l o v e the two characters interactions. the mv feels like a whole story that says soooo much without having to say anything at all. the exchanged looks and the gradual development and the interactions are just so perfect. its one of those things where things dont need to be explicitly romantic to be romantic, the combination of the visuals and the song just conveys this very specific feeling extremely well. i love the way they toe around each other and test each other a little bit, how it feels very careful and new at first but then gets more familiar. i love how they look at each other.  i love the parts where they sit back to back and the camera spins around them. i love the part where you have a red close up of zico and she's layered above in blue. that could have looked strange but it works extremely well. everything in this mv feels like it happens or is there for a reason. it feels very intentional, but in a casual way, if that makes sense. i love the pace. i think this is partly caused by the fact that it looks like everything is just slightly slowed down, so it feels more relaxed and gives off this “we have all the time in the world” vibe, and also similar to the otherworldly feeling i mentioned earlier. i love how the sign went from opened/closed to opened/opened.i just dont even know how to say it but from 0:16-0:22, the way the perspectives are shown is just wonderful. i love the way its blurry for a split second  at 0:12. i just love all the details. i love how this mv makes me feel. i want to live in this. 

sentimental by winner - ngl i just love the way this is shot and the colours and the styling and chilled and lazy and careless atmosphere that the visuals and the song create, but also how it somehow shows this underlying frustration? looking up the lyrics helped with this one - i kinda guessed the whole “i miss u” thing because of the title and it has this bittersweetness to it? i just think that this is a great example of a series of seemingly borderline nonsensical/weird/”random” things (eg. the lobster, the bathtub, the guy dancing around with the cat or the guy riding the bike whilst lying on the floor) but it made sense, somehow? it felt like all those little details just showed the frustration and boredom and that they’re not quite sure what to do with themselves and how missing someone can drive you a little bit crazy. not to mention that the cat is a metaphor for “im going to die alone with 18 cats” and the bike thing reminds me a little bit of carousel by melanie martinez, in other words just feeling like you/a relationship is going nowhere. i also love the repeated use/portrayal of musical instruments (even/especially the ones where they go a bit crazy) because it feels like that shows working through your feelings through creativity and expressing yourself. and i also love the couple making out in random places because that’s essentially what it feels like when you like someone who likes someone else, them being with that person is always just sort of... there... i like the almost intruder-like portrayal of it here. i also love the separate rooms because they’re such a cool way to show the characters’ isolation and give them a bit of individuality, whilst still tying it all together with the band/kitchen sequences. 

you’re the best by mamamoo - i like this one because it’s a great example of “we all like the same person but not in a way that suggests we want to kill them and wear their skin”. also, i love the song and the styling (mamamoo are the only people in this world that can pull off bootcut jeans) and the colours and the choreo and the set and the retro/vintagey vibe it all gives off and how the music video perfectly compliments the song and every things so bright and wonderful and i love the dorky moments and i love the scenes under the white sheet (one of the weirdest things ive said in a while) but theyre just so radiant and soft and i love the little animations, they’re so subtle it took me aaaages to see them and theyre so small and cute and fit really well (its not like lalaland floating galaxy dance that feels out of place) and its overall just such a wonderful experience to watch the mv and also i am in love with every single one of these girls 

why so lonely by wonder girls - this one borders on including random things just for the sake of including random things, but it does it so well, i honestly dont care. you do need subs, i think? but its overall just so good that it doesnt matter too much. it just has this “i dont give a shit” in such a classy, controlled, badass lana del rey way. i watched this for the first time when it first came out, i think, about 9 months ago? and i still haven't stopped thinking/forgotten about it, simply because it was so unlike anything ive ever seen before and i honestly wasn’t even sure whether i like it or not. but i do. i love the blocky colors and the styling and the set and the actual format/size of the video and how you have the black borders on the side and how they all fit together perfectly to create this vintage/retro/strange different reality or its own world. the fact that they all perform/sing with this deadpan face and intense eye contact is also that perfect kind of strange that just goes really well with the entire mv. i love the ending and i love that it has this little arch to it, even if its kind of a crazy one, but i love that it’s not wannabe badass (like me lol) or cutesy, it’s just so fucking cool and well made in its own way.  

fine by taeyeon this is the one. the mv that will be the death of me. i love how simple this was and that the way it was shot and the variety and the colours and how pretty it was in a soft, subtle way made it really really interesting or ’’’moving’’’’ i guess. (i always say the same thing, i know, but these are just the things i love about mvs??) the underlying theme/repeated use of photographs and that type of imagery to indicate the passing of time and memories was just stunning and perfect and added this feeling of nostalgia and missing someone/something and perfectly complimented the song. i love that this is another one that just feels really sincere and real and not dramatic at all, all the interactions between the couple are just really really cute and i love that one moment where she's just in the kitchen drinking a glass of water because (at least i think that) it’s this strange relatable feeling of being a bit lost and just thinking and wandering around the house and drinking a glass of water and thinking about stuff. it’s just overall wonderful. 

never ever by got7 - this is just beautiful. that’s the only way to describe it. all the scenes are gorgeous and well balanced, if that makes sense? i love the colours and the contrast between the white and the bluish black with just enough vibrant colours to make it interesting and the smoke thing and the outfits its all just well rounded, somehow. id be OBSESSED with this band if they were on spotify  

fxxk it by bigbang - this ones slightly different bc i saw the mv a while back and i thought it was alright but then i went to hoho’s k pop shop in london and picked up 2 like, credit card sized poster type bigbang things so i was like “guess i should give them another try” and i listened to more of their stuff and i really really really like this song (and a lot of their other songs, actually?? i had no idea that they’ve recently been making so much chilled music?? i guess i just kept thinking of fantastic baby when i heard bigbang) and i think its just another instance of the mv matching the song really well. and i love the styling and colors. i say that every time bUT JUST LOOK AT IT ITS SO COOL 

crooked by g-dragon - i just kind of assumed ive already talked about this because its one of my favourites and it has been for like a year or something?side note before i rewatch it and give my detailed opinions: coup d’etat reminds me of a very specific couple of weeks of my life. it basically just feels like walking to the my best friend’s place in may or june in the evenings last year and its still light and really nice and warm and im wearing ripped jeans and doc martens and my leather jacket and me and my best friend hang out and watch a movie or walk around while we’re ”””””studying”””” and its just a. lot.  but ANYWAY i just love this so much. i love the song and the music video s o m u c h. not just because i have this weird sentimental connection to it. i just feel like it conveys this feeling of helpless, reckless, careless, self destructive badassness so strongly that there is no doubt about it, regardless of the lyrics. i looked them up once and i forgot and im sure theyre good but i just really feel like the sound and the visuals combine so well that theyre a bonus rather than something you need to understand. it just makes me feel this strange sense of pity and it has that kind of underlying sense of sadness and despair and loneliness and not being sure what to do with yourself and not quite belonging but covering it all with this appearance of not caring even though you care so much at the same time and i just love it so much. all i know is that walking places whilst listening to g-dragon is a very unique, specific feeling that i love 

she's a baby by zico - since i am you, you are me is basically my favourite mv ever i put off watching this for like 2 weeks. i was kinda nervous, ngl?? idek know why tbh? i guess i didnt want to be disappointed? but maaan. i was not disappointed. of course i dont like it as much as i am you, but i love love love that it has the same gentle pastel vibe and it just made me feel all soft inside and it made me smile and i just love it. im not gonna go on about how much i love the colors and the way its shot and stuff bc i say the same thing every time but jusT LOOK AT IT. its GORGEOUS. 

rumor by kard - this looks cool as fuck on your phone, i really really like the song and just generally love that kard always does completely new, different stuff and does it super well. (i just love their music in general bc their lyrics mean soooo much to me whenever i feel A Lot) 

neverland by holland - boy where to even start with this one. to begin with, i want to take the first 30 seconds and hang them up on my wall. tattoo them on my body. they’re just so quiet and pretty and perfect. i love the yellow neverland font. and just the contrast between the dark scenes where he’s alone and the brightness of the beach and the sky when they’re together???? SO damn good. the combination of the two makes the mv feel like it’s like a memory - when you think of someone you used to like, you think about all of it. it’s not just the good and it’s not just the bad, in a way, you’re brain smashes it all together. it just does such an excellent job of making you feel something. and the interactions between the two boys. they’re so cute and soft together but the mv also manages to give their relationship a bit of depth and it’s just great to watch. and their kiss might be my favourite “tv” kiss ever? i usually just find kisses in movies and tv shows (especially dramas) very “whatever” but this one was just so cute. they’re so cute. it’s just great. and i love the sound of the actual music so much? i’m usually not into soft music but this is actually so damn good????? im honestly just dying for holland to make more music

Late entry for “They do exist!” Thursday. Forgive me, but I don’t remember the ship name. Alex/Lucy.

A wave of warmth hits Lucy as she pushes into the bar, and she has to laugh when Vasquez lets out a happy groan.

“I so needed this,” Vasquez says as she adjusts her tan button-up.

“Me too.” Agent Rajani Dhawan is relatively new to the DEO, but she’s already proved herself in the field on several occasions. Needless to say, Vasquez already has a massive crush on her. “Glad you guys invited me.”

“No problem.” Lucy smiles at the slightly taller woman, and when Rajani also smiles, Lucy does her best not to guffaw at Vasquez’s enamored expression.

Vasquez meets Lucy’s eyes and widens her own comically.

Amateur. Lucy shakes her head. “We usually hang out over here,” she says as she leads the way to their normal corner booth.

She lets Rajani and Vasquez sit first, and is about to join them when someone at the bar catches her attention. She cants her head to the side; the leather jacket is familiar.

“You guys go ahead,” Lucy says absently, “I think I see someone I know.”

Vasquez will just have to figure out how to woo Rajani on her own because Lucy is pretty certain…

“Alex,” she says as she rounds the bar stool. The hair is a little longer than she remembers, and mostly hiding Alex’s face, but Lucy’s certain she’s right. “What are you doing here? Thought you found a new bar to relax at.”

Maybe Lucy is a little upset, but she also knows that sometimes people just drift apart. She makes an effort to sound casual.

When Alex shifts and reveals red-rimmed eyes, Lucy immediately takes a seat.

“Hey, Lucy.” Alex’s voice is low and rough, and she doesn’t look away from her bottle of beer.

Lucy waits a solid minute, but Alex doesn’t say anything else. “Alright, I know my question sounded a little standoffish, but really...what’s up, Danvers?”

Alex’s shoulders stiffen, a flash of hurt passing so quickly over her face that if Lucy hadn’t been studying her carefully, she should have missed it.

Another few minutes pass, and Lucy can only sigh and gesture for the bartender. She orders herself a beer, taking a long sip when it’s set before her a moment later.

“Come on, spill.” Lucy bumps her shoulder against Alex’s.

Alex licks her lips and begins carefully peeling the label from her own bottle. “I met this woman…”

Lucy nods as the tale slowly unfolds, her eyebrows rising steadily. “So you’re--”

“A lesbian,” Alex affirms with a nod, freezing almost as suddenly as she’s said it. “I don’t think I’ve ever said that out loud, even when I came out to Kara.”

“And the woman - Maggie, right? - you’re sure she’s not into you?” Lucy isn’t sure how she feels about the revelation. She’d always admired both Danvers sisters, but there’s always been something about Alex that’s different. It’s in the way she moves, how sure her hands are when she handles a weapon. Lucy’s missed seeing her around the underground DEO facility.

“That’s what she told me,” Alex mutters, “and I feel like such an idiot. I mean, I’ve never met a woman who...I mean, I guess I have, but no one’s ever brought it up. It kind of would have been nice to figure this out a little bit sooner.”

Lucy makes a noncommittal noise in her throat. “Yeah, I guess that would have been nice.” She braces her elbow against the bar top so she can lean her face into her hand. “Vasquez might have asked you out. Hell, I might have asked you out.”

“You and Vasquez…?” Alex turns to her with wide eyes.

“Well, kinda, but not together. I’m bi, Vasquez is gay as hell. In fact,” Lucy twists on her stool so she can see the booth she’d abandoned. “She’s trying miserably to figure out if the woman she likes would be into something.”

Lucy smiles when she observes Rajani laugh at something Vasquez has said. “At the very least, they’ll probably be friends after tonight.”

“You...you date women?” Alex’s eyes are still wide when Lucy straightens on her stool

“Sometimes,” Lucy says slowly. “I’m sorry, are you having a hard time with this?”

Alex blushes and looks away. “Sorry, sorry. I just...I guess I’ve just always been so focused on work stuff that I didn’t consider, well, anything else.”

Lucy has to bite the inside of her cheek at the look, reminding herself that Alex is trying to get over feelings for another woman. It would be tacky and not smart to ask her out. Plus, it would probably ruin their friendship.

She clears her throat and sips from her beer. “We’re all going to spar tomorrow at the gym over on 12th tomorrow morning. You wanna come?”

“I’ve been such a shit friend to you and Vasquez, I’m sorry.” Alex gives her a contrite smile.

“Don’t worry about it,” Lucy says with a shrug. “Relocating to the other facility and then all that personal stuff? I know it’s probably been a lot to juggle.”

Alex just barely nods. “Kara’s been busy with CatCo and James and...it’s been hard not being able to find my dad.”

“You should definitely come spar with us tomorrow then. Blow off some steam.”

“I think I’d like that.” Alex’s smile is crooked, but it seems genuine.

Lucy chugs down the last of her beer and forces herself to look away. She’s just glad Alex doesn’t look miserable anymore.

Sparring twice a week becomes a habit, and before Lucy knows it, Alex is again a regular part of the group. Kara joins them once in a while for bar nights, as do Winn and James.

“You guys have to come to the alien bar,” Winn says with bright eyes one night, “tipsy Kara is so hilarious.”

Kara blushes and adjusts her glasses. “I am a perfectly normal tipsy person, thank you very much.”

James snorts and adjusts his arm along the back of her chair, leaning forward after a moment. “No, Lucy, Winn is right. Kara is hilarious. I’d take a photo for you, but it’s just not the same experience.”

Lucy laughs when Kara lightly smacks his chest and he pretends to be hurt, glad that she doesn’t feel weird seeing them. They seem happy, and honestly, Lucy’s happy for them both.

“Isn’t it disturbing, how happy they are?” Alex says with a delighted grin.

“I kind of like it,” Lucy admits with her own small smile.

Alex bumps their shoulders together, and their eyes meet.

Lucy almost forgets they’re not alone, abruptly coughing and reaching for her mixed drink.

It’s been nearly a month since they’d started hanging out again, and Lucy knows she’s just been reading too much into their interactions. Just because Alex has figured out she’s not into guys, it doesn’t mean she’s suddenly into Lucy.

Alex had certainly never seemed interested in the months they’d both worked at the underground DEO facility. She’s not disappointed, Lucy tells herself.

She tunes out the group when Winn begins relaying some anecdote pertaining to a case she isn’t familiar with. She’ll have to figure out what’s going on with herself soon. Sparring with Alex has had some...interesting effects on her. It doesn’t help that Alex seems really fond of grappling.

“I kicked your ass this morning,” Alex says in a low voice, pulling Lucy from her thoughts.

Lucy arches her eyebrows, glancing quickly to assure no one’s paying attention to them. “Excuse me? No, you didn’t. You barely won, and only because Vasquez made us stop. We weren’t being too rough. There was hardly any blood.”

Alex laughs, her eyes crinkling at the sides. “Whatever you say, Lane.”

“Watch it, Danvers.” Lucy narrows her eyes.

“Oh, please, what are you gonna do? Kick my shin?”

“Are you trying to pick a fight?”

“No, not at all. We know how that’d turn out, especially after this morning.”

If Alex wasn’t so damn hot, Lucy would punch her stupid smug face. “We could go again tomorrow. Just you and me, no Vasquez or Rajani.”

“We could,” Alex says slowly, “or...we could go again tomorrow night - but instead of the gym, we could hit the alien bar.”

“I..” Lucy furrows her brow. “What? Are you asking for a rematch or for a date?”

“Date,” Alex supplies, trying her best to look innocent.

“That’s how you ask a woman on a date? Jesus, Alex.” Lucy is about to take another drink from her glass when the words finally sink in. She blinks slowly and puts her glass back down.

She thinks Alex is joking - until she sees that the cocksure grin is gone and instead Alex is nervously tucking her hair behind her ear.

“Wait, really? That’s your--Alex.” Lucy rubs her face and shakes her head. “What am I going to do with you?”

“Date me?” Alex asks with a shy grin, and honestly, how dare she look so adorable.

Lucy glares at her. “You’re lucky you’re like, both stupidly hot and incredibly cute.”

“Wait, is that a yes?”

Alex looks so excited that it almost makes Lucy angry. Here she’s been stressing and worrying that she’s reading too much into their friendship, and then Alex comes out of the blue with asking Lucy for - and in the most awkward way - a date. There’s only one thing Lucy can possibly do to get back at her.

She grips the collar of Alex’s leather jacket and abruptly pulls her into a kiss, not caring that everyone is staring at them.

“You’re ridiculous,” Lucy mumbles a long moment later. Alex’s lips had been far softer than she’d been able to imagine. Of course.

“You’re...yes,” Alex mumbles back, obviously still dazed from the kiss.

Lucy licks her lips, now aware that no one around them is speaking. She’ll have to get Alex back more...later.
