It's early, too early for daylight.

Derek opens his other eye and assesses the situation: puffs of air on the back of his neck, too abrupt for normal breathing. 

Beside him, Stiles doesn't so much shift as jerks a little, as if he's trying not to move any more than that small amount. 

"Hey, you doing okay?" Derek whispers.

Beacon Hills sheriff might have an inkling that Derek has been climbing though Stiles's perpetually open window for the past two years or so—in the daytime. But Derek is positive he doesn't know about the sleeping-with-his-only-son part that has been happening for the last few months. Because Derek is still alive.

So. Whispering it is.

Silence.

Then a pitiful, drawn out groan. 

"Stiles?" 

More groans. Then a croaked, "I'm dying."

Derek is on Stiles in a millisecond. "What is it? What's wrong? Stiles? What's—" and his hands are flying over every inch of the kid. 

"Shit, Der, I'm not really dying," Stiles whispers back, batting Derek away. 

Derek wouldn't need to be looking at Stiles to know the face he's pulling.

"Ugh, feels like it though. My tummy hurts so fucking bad right now. I can't get comfy, I can't get back to sleep and I hate everything and everyone and I would honestly be perfectly okay with passing over to the other side, now. Like. RIP me. Swear to God, Der, the afterlife never sounded so good." 

Derek rolls his eyes. His very human boyfriend is so very fucking dramatic. 

Boyfriend.

Thinking about him and Stiles like that still makes Derek's stomach flip like he's fourteen again. Even when he's smooshed up right next to him in bed. He wonders if that will ever change and immediately doesn't think it will. 

Derek peers down through the gloom at a pained looking Stiles, then instinctively flicks his eyes to the numbers glowing a dim blue on Stiles's alarm clock.

Stiles is about to say something but Derek quickly silences him with a hand placed across his mouth, essentially gagging him. 

Just when Stiles looks as if might sink his teeth into Derek's fingers, there's an ominous creak on the landing, and they both simultaneously stop breathing. 

Thud. Trickle. Drip, drip, drip. Flush. Running water. Creak. 

The town's sheriff is nothing if not habitual.

After another moment, Derek removes his hand but puts a finger to Stiles's lips to tell him to stay quiet. Then he strokes Stiles's cheekbone as he shifts a bit in the bed, until he can place his other hand gently on Stiles abdomen.

Derek now focuses all of his thoughts and senses on Stiles, until there's only Stiles, everything Stiles is. Until he's aware of Stiles's pain. Until he is Stiles's pain. Derek's face twists a little with what is a really nasty, sharp feeling but looks up to thankfully see Stiles's features smoothing out as the hurt drains from his body. 

"Dude," Stiles whispers, before his eyes widen and he's slapping his own hand over his mouth—his dad could still be awake. 

Derek un-grits his teeth and cracks his neck, removing his touch from Stiles and flexing his hand a few times as the pain in his arm starts to fizzle away. 

Better? Derek asks silently with raised brows. 

Stiles grins so big it makes Derek's heart thump harder in his chest. 

Dude! Best. Boyfriend. Ever! Stiles mouths back, in such an exaggerated manner Derek's pretty sure even a person who speaks no English could tell what he said. 

Given the current hushed situation, Derek supposes he'll let the dreaded 'dude' slide.

(Realising for the first time that he's completely head-over-heels in love with this adorable idiot has absolutely nothing at all to do with it).

Stiles loves going to the dentist. Loves it. He gets that it’s kind of strange, he does. Scott hates going to the dentist, hates it even more now that he and Kira have the twins and it costs like a million bucks or something every trip (or well, maybe not a million bucks but Stiles generally zones out once Scott starts to rant about money. He definitely doesn’t love talking about money). But Stiles is blessed to have a job with good dental coverage, and a visit to the dentist doesn’t usually come with a big bill. It does however come with hygienists and a dentist that are smokin’ hot.

Derek gets deeply pissed off when someone says smn like "how didn't you kill Stiles yet? he's so annoying and he's babbling all the time. how can you stand to be with him? aren't you embarrassed when he talks nonsense?" bc what the fuck do you mean he's embarrassed?

He's not annoyed or frustrated, because he likes hearing Stiles talk, he likes that Stiles feels comfortable around him enough to let his conscious flow free. He loves it, bc he sees how Stiles shuts up in the presence of his dad, he knows that he's the only one since Claudia who actually listens to what Stiles says.

And he hates when Stiles hears those things bc he shuts off and doesn't talk for days and Derek has to grab him by his face and growl "fucking talk to me" and shake him a little. And Stiles explodes and cries and they have sex and then everything is normal again.

OH YM GOD YESSS./ HEDWIG OH MY GOD. this is so crazy cause i once had a post about how stiles' exes/previous relationship has definitely done the "kisses you to shut you up" thing especially when he's rambling and stuff so when he's finally with derek, he FULLY expects derek to do the same. like to the point that he sometimes suddenly goes quiet because no one has ever let him ramble this long and surely derek isn't even listening anymore??? except. except derek looks up from whatever he's doing and perfectly follows up on whatever stiles has been saying and even says some super specific things he's said bc guess what! guess what! derek hale IS the most perfect boyfriend and he LOVES stiles. to death!!!

Stiles never slowed his pace as branches slapped his face and thorns snagged at his fur. Even when he thought he couldn’t hear them anymore, he didn’t give an inch. Stiles only stopped when Chris Argent grabbed him and lifted him completely off his feet, and even then, it took a moment for his legs to stop trying to run.

Stiles hadn’t known where he was running to. Instinct told him to find the safest place he could in the quickest amount of time, and Chris had told him once that he could always come here. Chris laid him on the ground, on his side, and held him in place with one hand while the other raked through his fur. A rumbling growl left the alpha’s throat as he tried to get Stiles to calm down.

“Stiles, you’re safe. Calm down so you can tell us what happened.” It took a minute for Stiles to gather his wits about him, to stop panting and stinking of fear. Allison helped as she knelt beside him too, her familiar scent soothing him, as one hand carded through his fur along with her father’s.

Her other hand held her cellphone to her ear while she spoke quickly down the line. They had heard the howls of the other wolves echoing all the way here. “Scott’s going to check it out,” She said to her father hanging up.

Chris nodded and stood. “I’m going to meet him there. Get Stiles inside and see if he’ll shift back.”

Stiles didn’t want to shift back, so he darted away as soon as he was inside, weaving from room to room until Stiles found the one he felt safest in. He went straight for Allison’s closet, where the scent of Scott was most potent, and found one of Scott’s hoodies. He pulled it from the hanger with his teeth and let it drape over him before curling up in the tightest ball he could manage on top of Allison’s shoes.

Allison hovered outside the closet door, but she didn’t try to coax him into shifting. Instead, she grabbed her bow and an arrow and stood guard in front of the door. “It’ll be okay, Stiles. My dad and Scott will take care of whatever it is. We won’t let anything hurt you.”

Stiles knew that. He knew they would never let anyone take him - just like he knew by the sound of the howl currently ripping through the air that Derek was going to destroy whoever had thought they could.

Hi guys, thanks for all the hard work you do. I wonder if you can help. Years ago, I read a fic (that I no can't find) where Stiles became really sick and ended up in hospital - I believe the Dr's thought it might have been lyme disease and then later (I think) suspected it was Spotted Mountain Fever disease. I'm not sure if this was the final diagnosis or not but I remember he was really poorly in hospital and they thought he was going to die. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you x

you know those fics where the plot is like. sterek who had something but it didn't escalate to anything. and then they get back together a couple months/years later when they're all healed or whatever.

like idk HOW it would work but it would be PERFECT.. derek goes to stiles apartment and it was RAINED so perfectly and of course derek is all heartbroken puppy in stiles' doorsteps and of course it's stiles so he will obviously say "derek, are you insane?! it's pouring out there! come in!" because, derek thinks, even if he broke stiles' heart, of course stiles would still care about him and let him in because this is stiles we're talking about and he'll always be nice and perfect

and when derek's inside and all dried up and surrounded by stiles' perfect, amazing scent, he sees the moment stiles' frown and his brows furrow probably to be mad at derek finally for suddenly being here after breaking up with him or whatever and instantly derek is like [opens up taylor swift vault in mind] "it's been a long [however time it's been] and i was too afraid to tell you what i wanted" because of COURSE taylor's lyrics perfectly fit what derek wanted to say and then cue stiles' slack expression as he looks at derek and derek takes the cheesy one step forwards to stiles, cups his face with his palms and goes "i want you for worse or for better, i would wait forever and ever for you. i know i broke your heart but i'll put it back together"

and then stiles having the craziest moment of his life because hello. DEREK HALE CONFESSING TO HIM but also. those words. are those. did he just. DID YOU JUST QUOTE TAYLOR SWIFT AT ME?!?

I'm pissed off at multiple things rn so lets goooo

Stiles goes really still when he's angry. like completely still. unnaturally so, especially since he's constantly moving about, whether it be slightly shifting, or full-on bouncing around.

but when he gets pissed, really truly angry, he is like a statue. every single one of his movements becomes completely measured and controlled, each breath he takes completely even. and to his pack members who have enhanced senses, even his heart rate completely evens out.

naturally, this worries (and, to be honest, scares) the rest of the pack and the people who interact with him daily, seeing as he's Stiles, and known for moving constantly. after they witness his eyes sharpen in a way they have never seen them do before, almost taking on a silver sheen, they grow worried. they worry that there are remnants of the nogitsune in Stiles. they even worry that he carried the nogitsune's mannerisms as a last "mark" and taunt from the fox demon. a last spiteful "fuck you".

they don't know that the scent of cold, static and silver clinging to Stiles is not a remnant. they don't know that Stiles' mannerisms are all his own. well, kind of. the point is, the pack doesn't know that the nogitsune is alive and well, chilling in Stiles' room, cuddling him every night.

the eerie stillness that Stiles now carries when angry is simply a result of Void's own tendency to do the same. (though Void has always been controlled in his movements) after all, couples did tend to share mannerisms.

Stiles' jitters vanish when he's angry because Void has taught him the merits of channelling the rage into control, into cunning and strategy.

and so Stiles' already devastatingly brilliant mind is sharpened and honed into a diamond-tipped dagger under the careful guidance of Void. he has learnt how to wield rage like a lethal weapon, and woe be the day he is forced to make use of it.
