I rewatched Sinbad sometime last year and was hit in the FACE with this idea! The color palettes!! I watched the movie in like a fever of ideas but then it just faded over the year until me and my sister started talking about it recently and we're seriously considering writing a fanfic or something together. Mwhahaha but for now here's this sketch idea and some notes!

The way that I need a fic like this with Dick and Bruce...

...except Bruce is some creature who appears like this:

Batman: Ego

No because Creature!Bruce introduces himself to Dick after Dick's parent's die, and he ends up taking care of Dick and raising him in the dark forest. While there, Dick learns to harness the power of the shadows, and he becomes known as Robin of the Dark Forest.

However, Dick is still mortal, and as he grows older, he has a longing to explore life outside of the dark forest. Bruce balks at this for selfish reasons as well out of worry for Dick's safety. He becomes a bit more protective and controlling, and within this time, Dick realizes that he must make himself take the leap into the outside world even if Bruce disapproves.

It takes all of Dick's courage to leave Bruce a note and to depart for his journey. At the edge of the forest, his shadows pull him to a halt, and Dick realizes with great sadness that he can't take his shadows with him, or at least, he can't harness their power so strongly outside of the dark forest. Feeling conflicted yet determined, he leaves the dark forest's comforting embrace.

He ventures into the real world, makes new friends, and goes on exciting adventures. He misses Bruce, of course, and sometime he thinks he even sees Bruce watching him from the shadows, but he doesn't try to contact Bruce, and Bruce doesn't try to contact him.

After half a year goes by, Dick's friend Raven is attacked by her father on the night of her birthday, and to try and save her, Dick calls upon the shadows to assist him in freeing her. Word spreads quickly after people report Dick's power over the shadows. "Demon" they call him. "Witch" they call him. "Evil spirit" they call him.

Dick is captured in daylight, and with his shadows weakened, he's unable to free himself. He's sentenced to death for utilizing demonic energies.

Dick, once Robin of the Dark Forest, now lies against a slab of stone with his neck stretched out for death. He directs his thoughts to Bruce, telling Bruce he's sorry and that he loves him. With his eyes squeezed shut, he misses the way the sky and the lights change in the blink of an eye, but he doesn't miss the call for the sword to end his life.

Steel meets flesh. There is a shattering, only, it's not Dick's neck that fractures, it's the sword. Dick opens his eyes, and when he sees the familiar looming shadow in front of him, he is enveloped in a feeling of comfort, and he smiles in relief.

Bruce looks back at him, and while others would find his emotions impossible to distinguish amongst the mass of darkness, Dick can read him perfectly. The concern. The fear. The anger. But... the anger isn't directed at him, rather, it's directed at those that rallied for Dick's execution.

Dick relaxes, knowing he's safe.

A few people took the chance to suggest a Beauty and the Beast AU manip after my Tarzan and Jane manip and GOOD ON YOU. It gave me the chance to actually edit with Kale and Odette as well, and they do honestly look really good together. And Kale is such a deliciously muscular man that his body actually fits Adam's body… whom I just realized is a fairly big dude, because damn, Kale's body type is extremely close to Adam's body type… unlike Thrax. Which is funny, cause Thrax is the "beast" in this AU so… that means his human form is BIGGER than his beast form, unlike the original, and that's just really funny to me 😂

Not me coming in hot with a bunch of AU ideas for a fandom that seems mostly DEAD ahaha... why must you do this to me, brain

-AU where there are side effects to being bonded to a djinn, depending on the djinn’s powers and/or physical appearance. For example, the tips of Alibaba’s hair lighting on fire when he gets upset, Kougyoku leaving foot-shaped puddles behind as she walks, Kouen’s eyes glowing electric blue when mad, Sinbad accidentally shocking everyone he shakes hands with with static electricity, Sinbad’s hair fluffing like feathers when he’s surprised by something, Hakuryuu accidentally making flowers bloom out of season, Hakuei never being able to fall at normal speed no matter what she tries....

-AU where there are no dungeons, the djinn just covertly wander around in human form and when they see someone they want to have as a king’s candidate, they kidnap them for several years of training. This leads to a lot of misunderstandings, with djinn being thought of as child-snatchers and creators of changelings, once the fully trained king’s candidates return and start changing the world. Alibaba definitely freaks out when he gets yoinked by Amon. Rashid is Not Happy that his third son has disappeared again. Meanwhile, extra djinn just keep piling on Sinbad after he’s snatched by Baal and it’s been over a decade since he’s been allowed to leave the training grounds for any considerably length of time and he is Not Impressed. Not even by the clairvoyance magic Yunan has set up for him. On the flip side, since king’s candidates all get taken to the same place (which no outsiders can locate no matter how hard they try, not even Al Thamen), there’s a lot more camaraderie between them.

-any AU where some twist of fate allows for much heavier parental!Sinbad/Alibaba, or they get to meet much earlier, much more like partners or family than just allies until Sinbad fucks up. (Seriously I am such a sucker for this dynamic, I wish there were more fics with parental!SinAli or mentor!SinAli...)

-AU where Sinbad has fathered several children all across the world and his generals are tearing their hair out going crazy trying to collect all of them and their mothers. How has a man with the reputation of “womanizer of the seven seas” not fathered a few children by the time canon starts...

-AU where the ruhk in resting state aren’t just gold or black, they’re all colors of the rainbow. Solomon went ham on fucking up the ruhk and Il Ilah and now there are hundreds of different “destinies” or “wills” for people to follow, all part of the same great flow. Al Thamen has a lot of trouble making headway because it’s not just one type of ruhk they’re fighting against, it’s a bunch.

-AU where everything is the same, except the djinn are treated like people instead of overpowered magical weapons. Secondary to this, where djinn can overtly communicate with their king’s candidates, even when their metal vessel is not on the king’s body. Definitely makes hiding or locking away a metal vessel a whole lot harder...

-AU where someone whacks Arba and David on the head repeatedly. Maybe Sinbad too for good measure. That’s it, that’s the AU.

-AU where there are no magis and the world is even more chaotic without them choosing king’s candidates. The dungeons just pop up randomly. Somehow, however, Sinbad still manages to start off with Baal.

-AU where all 72 members of Solomon’s Household are out in the world, bonded to king’s candidates. World-changing events happen almost every day because of this. Judar is having the time of his life.

-AU where instead of metal vessels, the djinn are bound to colored tattoos that are branded on the skin of the king’s candidates. These tattoos are fairly large and complex, or, possibly, the sigils from The Lesser Key of Solomon (which is where all the names of the djinn come from). People (*cough* Sinbad) are limited to seven djinn because there’s only enough room on a person’s skin for seven sigils. The sigils can shift location when another djinn becomes bonded, but otherwise stay in one place. The sigils glow whenever the djinn’s power is activated, in a color(s) that are related to the djinn. The glow is often a similar color to the tattoo.

-AU where the Fanalis can shapeshift into feline forms at will. Most of them are big cats, or larger lesser cats, but you can find the occasional Fanalis housecat, too. (Failure to recognize that the housecat-shifting Fanalis can kick your ass just as easily as, say, the tiger-shifting Fanalis has been the unlamented death of many a slave trader.)

-AU where bonding with a djinn automatically makes you a cryptid. Glowing eyes, reflective eyes, vaguely creepy habits (“Get off the ceiling, Kouha, how did you get up there”), gravity no longer seems to apply quite right, you enjoy spending long stints alone in the wilderness sometimes creeping on travelers...

-AU where everyone has different djinn. Alibaba gets a water djinn for Reasons (and Aladdin becomes a water magician to match).

Kairi had woken up early to get a spot of coffee and have a walk around the city before heading to the shop. Downtown was already starting to pick up in activity in the early morning, but most of the world was still sleepily pulling themselves out of bed and doing their morning routines before they'd head out themselves. The air was cool, not yet shaken off the night chill as the sun hung over the horizon. It was one of her favorite times of day; peaceful, hopeful.

As she rounded the corner towards where her shop was waiting to be prepped, she noticed movement in front of the shop next to hers. The florist who ran it was finishing a display up front, before heading back inside. Kairi had only ever seen the shop owner from a distance, through the front facing windows as he chatted with customers and put together arrangements at the counter. She'd been curious about the shop and wanted to step in sometime, but it was always busy--no doubt thanks to the owner's beautiful work, if not simply his good looks.

But as she came closer, the shop seemed empty except for him. A twist of fate, perhaps? Simply a coincidence of her timing catching the shop during a slow period? Whichever it was, Kairi was being given an opportunity. And after staring at the display out front for a few minutes, building up her nerve, she finally pushed the door open to step inside.
