Sorry about the lazy title. Tumblr is obsessed with Abhimanyu and Uttara so naturally I had to write about them.

Hi, i have a welsh question? is siwt pronounced si-w-t or s-iw-t? and in general is there a rule for this type of thing or is it case by case?
As in, 'siwt wyt ti?' Si-w-t if so
The general rule of thumb is that 'si' at the start of a word is pronounced like the English 'sh'. You see it in a lot of loanwords/English-derived words (siopa, siwgwr, etc), or a lot of dialect words that would normally start with a plain old 'S' but have softened (of which 'siwt' is a great example - the standard version is 'sut'.) If it's dialect, you may find pronunciation becomes a fun verbal game of pin the tail on the donkey. You can particularly blame West Walians for this, as with most things.
If it's not at the start, though, and instead turns up in the middle or end... hmm. Let's think. The end is easy, then it would be pronounced 'see' because the 'i' becomes a vowel again; at the start it's pulling double duty as a temporary consonant. I suspect the middle gets a bit complicated though, and I think the answer is going to be 'dialect' again. Losin. Pasio. Could go either way.
Apologies, this is a bit vague

Welsh Gender Neutral Terms Tournament #3 - (Neutral) Niece/Nephew
Following on from this post I made yesterday, in which I listed some possible gender neutral Welsh terms for family brainstormed in the discord, I'm going to make a series of polls to find out which terms people prefer for each concept. In each poll I'll have two options and example sentences using each term (you are welcome to create your own as well). Your feedback is very much appreciated too! Reblog with tags or send an ask- either is fine!
And of course, please reblog for a larger sample size. Diolch!
(Neutral) Niece/Nephew:
(There is no gender neutral equivalent in English, though some use Nibling for this. Nibling was apparently coined in 1951!)
Naith f. - Niece/Nephew - “Bydd eich naith yn gwisgo'r siwt las” (Your nibling will wear the blue suit)
[‘nith’ (niece) + ‘nai’ (nephew) ]
Naib f. - Niece/Nephew - "Pryd mae eich naib yn cyrraedd?" (When is your nibling arriving?)
[‘nith’/’nai’ + Eng. ‘Nib-’, from Nibling]

Christmas thoughts...
This Christmas, I want to give my son the gift of my time. Tonight I’m going to delete all my Social Media apps. I’ve tried to talk myself out of it, like “maybe just keep Instagram for the occasional photo” and “maybe only Facebook after a certain time at night” but I know I can’t do things in moderation. I hate that I’ve been sucked into this giant void instead of spending time with Gordon. And all his best moments I have been stuck behind a camera trying to capture it from the best angle rather than just living in it with him. I’m looking forward to regaining my freedom.
