Lavender Vanilla Cake 🎂 💐

#erin bakes #OK SO! unfortunately the lavender torani syrup is not really a good way to get lavender flavor in the cake #HOWEVER I know that now! and I already have actual food grade lavender extract en route SO! I can revisit this experiment again #HOWEVER HOWEVER! the piping came out OK! the coloring was good! I'm happy I matched the cake & frosting like... perfect #the sugar pearls in the middle of the flowers look cute! #the flowers aren't perfect but I was using docotored store bought frosting so #they were never gonna look GREAT #although the sugar flowes I ordered to decorate with also were a bust. they were supposed to have sugar roses in the pack #but there were NO roses. ZERO. just flat little daisies. I was PISSED. $16 for nothing. so mad I left a review like rrrr 😠 #so I just decided to say fuck it! and do the whole thing with drop flowers and practice piping #and using the plating tweezers I got #the cake itself was good! like I said a little disappointing that there wasn't much actual lavender :( #I definitely noticed a difference in the crumb of the cake also cause of the torani syrup #which I was most worried about cause the sugar in the syrup I wasn't sure if it would make it mushy af #but idk it came out cute! so not a total bust!

Just saw Godzilla Minus One last night, having an Extremely Normal One about it. Art isn't dead after all

God, I struggled on this one. I started this piece back in July of this year. It did spend some time sitting while I stared at it in a deep state of ennui, so it's not like I was actively working on it for *counts on fingers* three-ish months.

This is what I get for trying to make a whole fucking scene instead of just drawing a character with no background.

I am pleased with how everything came out, but I still have a lot of frustrations with this piece. A lot of the perspective is off, the floorboards got lost because I noodled with them too much and you can't erase marker, and the rug is just bad sldjfdslkfjldskfjdlskjf. Still, I had fun (mostly) doing it!

A close up of our lady! (The colors got really washed out on my phone, but the warm filter made everything too red, so *shrugs*.) I wanted to stick her in clothes and an environment that was a complete antithesis to her character -soft, feminine, opulent. The baby pink was my first choice, and while I don't regret it, I had second thoughts (after putting the color down, naturally) about picking green instead because of its association with money. I think baby pink, however, was the right choice in the end.

I went with body jewelry like I did for her formal look. However, I stuck with something less opulent this time because I wanted more focus to be on the lingerie and lace. The glove she's wearing was supposed to be sheer -like her stockings-because I thought it was cool, but it didn't translate well on paper, alas.

I was so excited to do her scars, but they got lost/muted in the shading/shadowing under her arm. I tried to use some acrylic paint to boost them up, but they uh... got too boosted sdlkfjdslfkjldskjflskjf.

Arm close up! I hated drawing and detailing this! There's a reason I hid her arm under a cape in the first piece I drew of her!

I didn't want to just draw her "pre-explosion," though, because there's a lot of prosthetic erasure in fandom (in general) already. The highlighted bits were done with metallic gold paint. Also pls appreciate the lil fiddly scenery details I worked very hard on them sdlfkjdslfkjdslfkjdslf.

Materials used: water and alcohol based markers, colored pencils, and acrylic paint for highlights and details.

Lessons learned: spend more time plotting the background before jumping into drawing the character dslfkjdslfkjdslkfj. Also, pick a color palette first.

In old roleplaying circles, I used to have people get really angry at me because they found a lot of catharsis in taking their characters those agonizing angst without necessarily giving them an end point of healing whereas my characters would always try to prompt that moment of healing—would be an end point they could come to whenever they were ready, would love them through the pain instead of drive it higher—and I don't think I've really changed at all in that regard, and I hope that ends up being all right.

Like, I get *why* BHVR had to age her up (I believe they had to do it with the canonical 17 year old fellas from Licensed shit as well), but eughgjdlkfs it's still annoying as hell. I just wanna know why video games have different... Standards (?) compared to books and movies, if that makes sense? Especially considering that she's a *Killer* (so no violence is done to her), and not a Survivor enduring the shitty events of the Trials. I dunno, it just feels dumb to me.

There's just something about the idea of this diverse friend group of teens (age, background, etc) that's just really intriguing to me? Like imagining how they all interacted Pre-Fog (both in and out of school) as well as how participating in the Trials effects each of them/their motives for actively following the Entity's orders. I dunno, I feel like if they were all the same age (still all younger than Frank considering that he was the oldest at Julie's party), it just wouldn't be as interesting to me. You can just mess around with the dynamics a lot more, and also it just makes a lot more sense for her to be younger than the other three story wise, or at least in the way I write her ig.

You can bounce around this idea by saying that Frank was 19 when he actually arrived to Ormond or when he met the rest of the Legion, and not when he got taken into The Fog, meaning that he'd be roughly 21-22 in the end instead, but ehhhdlfksj idk ? It kinda takes the fun out of the whole concept of this rebellious group of teens who drank and smoked n all that stuff (I'd like to mention that Alberta's drinking age is 18 when bringing point this up). Also I feel like it just opens a whole 'nother can of inconsistency worms unless you played around with their Lore a LOT. Like obviously you can work with their Lore however you please, I'm not gonna stop ya considering how much I've personally rewritten n' whatnot (mainly for consistency, but still)! It's just personally not for me, but you do you, boo 😘

And oh yeah, agreed, I find that a lot people use the "But she's 18!!!" to their advantage... Like,,, Fine, sure, whatever, but it still rubs me the wrong way seeing gross shit of her considering the fact that she was most likely originally a sophomore (aka roughly 16). Like again, BHVR backpedaled like they usually do and changed some lore yet again, so technically these people off the hook (ha), but I still get bad vibes from it. There's SOOOOOO many other characters, both Survivors and Killers, that you're free to do whatever your little heart desires with. But Susie? Please just leave her be :( I personally get uncomfy with that stuff with all of them tbh, especially since they're still high school students (Frank and Julie I'm more lenient with since they're my age), but that's just me ig. If Daddy BHVR says they're legal, then I guess people can just do whatever.

I will also take this time to say that I don't personally enjoy violence against minors (whether they're super young or on the verge of adulthood)! I find it interesting to see what drives these characters to do what they do, but I don't like seeing them in any gross situations, including extreme violence/gorey shit (like on the Final Destination end of the scale, if that makes sense). But then,,, Saturday Slasher (aka the Bush Party recolor) is,,, Under "Sophomore Jitters" ????? What ????????????? Why ??? For what reason ??? Like they were literally released 4 years apart, just make a new collection or add it to a different one that MAKES SENSE ??? Whatever ig, I don't come to DBD for consistent Lore anymore (or anything consistent, considering how much they've fucked up with Julie and Susie's models lmfao, that's a whole other rant for another day), but it still drives me nuts :o)

Again, I'd like to clarify that a lot of my personal views on this subject are very related to how I, Miss Cherry Haysprite, your local Frank/Julie enthusiast, personally interpret the lore! Their lore is so damn inconsistent that at this point I've just given up trying to figure out what's actually canon or not (maybe the comic will fix some of this, but honestly I feel like it might make things more messy), so I just go along with whatever I think fits and respect everyone else's interpretation! Honestly, one of my favorite parts about Fanon Legion are the different interpretations and how people enjoy writing them, whether or not I actually like said interpretations or not! They're just a fun group of characters to work with and I love seeing how people prefer writing them, especially compared to my own thoughts and ideas! I'm just one person with her own lil spin on things :3c I just personally wish there was more consistency and less backpedaling in the Canon that we do have :( But again, what can ya do lmfao

seeing a lot of misinfo posts surging in the wake of Site Owner's Tantrum but there's a single point i keep seeing over and over that i really want to address:

tumblr banning users posing as black activists who were actually paid workers for the russian "internet research agency" is not some shit they made up to ban black activists

that was a very real psyop across multiple social media sites, and there were multiple governments and investigation orgs involved in tracking them down.

do not put actual black activists in the same fucking category as political catfishers who used uninvolved peoples' photos (putting them at risk of personal harm) while intentionally spreading misinfo and attempting to disrupt anti-racist and anti-fascist action, among other things

#i do not fucking trust anyone spreading that 'oh they were actually legit accounts' shit and neither should you #especially after seeing the level of misinfo and the danger to people whose pics had been stolen and used like holy fucking shit #if you care about queer people and people of color you need to care about people impersonating them for ill intent #and not sit there and go 'well the ceo is an idiot therefore we've been lied to this whole time about Absolutely Everything' #lemme be perfectly fuckin honest with you: im not even sure he was telling the truth about the mod selling moderator actions #it could be true. it could also be him trying to make up something big that he thought would make him look totally-not-transphobic #so like. broadly speaking i do not and will not take his word for Anything At All Whatsoever. BUT. i follow a lot of staff and ex-staff #(many of whom were fired or quit) and i believe what they agree on and corroborate across multiple accounts-- #especially the ones who got fired. they don't have any reason to lie or cover anyone on current staff's ass. #and i have yet to see any of them speak out on the veracity of that particular moderator's existence so i'm withholding judgment on it #but i did see many of them (+news outlets) talk about the russian troll accounts & evidence after the mass ban. so i believe that #anyway all i'm asking is for y'all to consider your sources--and their possible motives/sources/biases--and do research on your own #rather than rolling with what feels good to believe or what you think justifies your anger. arm yourself w/ facts whenever possible.
