Now that Kelli has been gone for a bit, I feel like I can get this off my chest: Wolf Productions done fucked up.

Not for the first time, and not right from square one. But gosh, what a waste.

Kelli Giddish's Rollins was the only female character with the depth and acting chops behind her on the show since Cabot was a regular. She showed up and was able to go toe to toe with Mariska in carrying episodes - both personally related to her character, or to cases - not to mention had electric chemistry with Benson (sexual or not, take your pick).

With all the flack that SVU had taken over the years for not having a more diverse cast in regards to sexuality, Amanda was the earliest and best opportunity they had to develop a complex, interesting storyline of an adult woman coming to her sexuality late in life. I am not even necessarily the most ravenous Rolivia Shipper out there, but I'm heartbroken that they took Amanda's character over the years into the most boring, obvious, dissatisfying of directions.

I adored Amanda's wild/problematic side. Her episodes with her fighting with Amaro, dealing with her gambling addiction, shooting her sister's ex, or going rogue undercover are my favorite episodes of basically the last 10 yrs of the show. It was so good to finally have someone in the squad who was easier to relate to in a real-world sense. Someone who went to a Big Girl job in the day, but in the off hours was a mess with a rebellious streak.

It was always my hope that they would turn around the storylines where she seemed to chase men that were purposely bad for her, into a realization that it was because she was more emotionally into women. It fits so perfectly with her childhood, her background, and had ready-made holes in existing canon where they could have written it in with ease. (Pretending to be Liv's gf at the sperm bank, the remarks she makes in the episode Plastic, questioning her second pregnancy, etc.)

Instead, they had Carisi mope after her for years, all through the seasons where she showed no interest in him. I lost 50% of my respect for Carisi when he had that sulking tantrum after she fucked the bartender in Intent (a sexist double-standard btw, which would have never flown with fans if it had been Rollins pouting bc Carisi turned her down), and the other 50% after Carisi became ADA, with the writers seeming to then write him as rather victim-blaming.

The biggest irony, in my opinion, is that Dick Wolf complains that giving the fans EO will make the show too 'soap opera-y,' when what he/they did with Rollisi and Kelli's exit was far and away the most soap opera-esque thing they ever wrote! Fuck off with that obvious shit! Oh, the once-troubled blonde who is now straight as an arrow, rides off into the sunset with the Catholic altar boy and trades her powerful feminist position for a 9-5 (don't come for me, there's nothing wrong w being a professor, that's not the point here) and her two kids. Eat all of my ass, Mr. Cis-het, White, Only-Primetime-Billionaire Wolf. 🙄***

To make matters worse, they specifically brought in a POC actress to play a bisexual character, only to write her out as fast as possible for absolutely no discernable reason!?! The utter waste of what they did with Kat Tamin is an equal travesty. Give me Kat waking up in Amanda's bed. Give me Amanda making pancakes for breakfast and Kat carrying the kids to the table. Give me anything but the bullshit, Caucasian tripe that they sold us with Rollisi!!!

And if - IF - the powers that be couldn't think beyond the end of an average-length cock when it came to Rollins, then for the love of all that is holy: her chemistry with Sergeant Khaldun was 1) vastly more believable 2) hotter 3) more diverse as an overall cast option and 4) less cringeworthily obvious.

I have loved SVU since I was 16 yrs old, and even though I gave up watching it around The People v. Richard Wheatley (for reasons unrelated to this specific rant), I still lurk in the background and keep myself vaguely caught up. But it's getting impossible to defend a lot of the choices they have made in the last three or four years. Good talent is so hard to hang onto these days in H'wood, and Dick Wolf seems just as, if not more, determined to fuck up his show as Chris Carter was in the 90s with TXF.

the best parts of MV continue to be the moments where they have the extremely iconic masculine characters both question and defy toxic masculine norms. for example,

both Rico and Sonny show compassion and sometimes even affection for each other

both Rico and Sonny show it's okay to cry and be vulnerable, and that you shouldn't be mocked for it

both Rico and Sonny treat sex workers as fellow human beings who deserve respect and protection (sidenote: i think the undercover cops relate to the hookers because both jobs require putting on a persona under potentially dangerous circumstances)

Sonny regrets not backing up a friend who came out as gay because he was young and didn't know what to do

Sonny regrets not standing up for a high school classmate who was sexually assaulted and then demeaned behind her back, again because he was young and didn't know what to do

Sonny barely holds back his rage against a man who emotionally abuses his wife

Sonny barely holds back his rage against all abusers, including the couple who exploited a 13yo runaway for their own benefit

Sonny does, for the most part, hold back his rage or seek counsel from a male friend to calm him down (his anger issues needed more attention in the writing imo)

Rico approaches difficult circumstances with calm compassion and a positive mental attitude

Rico makes it clear it is never okay for an adult man to have a sexual interest in teenage girls even when they are asking for it

Rico also makes it clear that a hypersexual teenage girl does not deserve less respect for acting that way

Sonny is continuously nonplussed by LGBTQ people, treating them as equals, and rolling his eyes at cishet who don't like it

Sonny is emotionally devastated over every teenage boy who doesn't make it out of a bad situation

Castillo is gentler with female officers, female victims, and is proud of his wife for marrying again and finding happiness

actually, the biggest deal to me is this reoccuring theme of "forgive yourself for not knowing better at the time."

For instance, Sonny doesn't seem to know how to handle Gina's rape, but in a later season when she is avidly hunting down a friend's rapist Sonny jumps at the opportunity to chase the man down and be extra aggressive. Then in other instances where sexual assault is a topic, Sonny has stronger opinions and stronger reactions. So part of his character is that he learns, but it's usually the hard way and he tends to overcorrect.

SVU Rewatch thoughts 15-16

This is random but I wanted to share. I've realized how much I've changed over the years while watching this show. I was around 18 when season 16 came out and I perceive it so much differently now that I'm older and have been through more hardship and heartbreak.

When I originally watched it I was a huge fan of Nick and Amanda being together and didn't understand why their relationship wasn't truly noted and skimmed over. Rewatching it I know why. It was an absolute clusterfuck and a total mistake. It has to be one of, if not the most, toxic SVU relationship ever. They were so bad for each other. He was hurting and wanted to save her and she did not want to be a victim or saved at all. She liked to push his buttons for his reaction and he gave it. It was so BAD. Thank you, unhealthy childhood for making me not see toxic.

I also loved Amanda, and I still do like her in later seasons but she was AWFUL in season 15 to the point where I could barely stand watching her episodes and didn't really feel bad for her like I felt I should. She has no repercussions for any of her bad choices. Nick has to be a traffic cop because he beat up a pedophile but she can be a full-out dirty cop to try to get away with her gambling problem and it's okay because Murphy is there to save her? And she is sleeping with him.

Okay, just two more thoughts that I had if anyone cares.

16x1: I forgot how mean Carisi played in his first episode. Empty promises about citizenship to those trafficked girls to get them to flip- broke my heart. (Granted I've never watched seasons 17-21 so I didn't get to really see his character development but I plan to) That scene with the girl where he is yelling at her telling her to call and get somebody who will take it rough- that's what he was there for? Shit surprised me, I don't remember it at all. I love Carisi so much and would never want to change his character but he would have been so fun to watch as a suspect again or a dirty cop.

16x3: The scene with Nick and Noah confirms in my Amaro-loving heart that had the writers been nice to him and given him a healthy relationship Nick would have had a house full of adorable Latino babies. I think had he had a supportive romantic partner he wouldn't have gotten himself into as much trouble either. He had no emotional support or affection. I mean look at who he was paired with:

Maria- won't tell him their relationship is over, hides things from him and makes him jealous, totally overreacts when he does get jealous, causes huge scenes at his workplace, puts his partner/ boss in the middle of their drama, takes away his daughter that HE was raising BY HIMSELF while she was at war, makes it a hard and painful process for him to see his daughter with no leeway, tries to get him to move across the country on false pretenses of their relationship continuing, then when he says he won't let her take Zara threatens to ruin his career.

Cynthia- Please don't make me go there. I absolutely hated this whole arc.

Amanda- I already told you how I felt about this one.

If there's someone I 100% don't feel bad for here, it's Josslyn Jacks.

The second she found out that the walking dildo she calls a "boyfriend" was planted by Michael to take Sonny down, she was all in. In fact, she was more enthralled by it than those two. So much so that she threw Morgan's death (which had zero to do w/ Sonny mind you) in her own mother's face when said mother had enough sense to shut the operation down. She was all for upending not only her life, but her family's life for some dick. It's insane.

And she's grown up in the mob life. Granted, she was shielded and pampered and only had about one real brush against mob violence, but she was in it nonetheless. One would think she'd know the risks of digging too deep into it and crossing the kingpin, but apparently not. She knew Dex was an anti-Sonny plant, she knew that if he was found out, he'd be a goner. And then, even when Dex "switched sides," she knew (or should've known) that Sonny demands loyalty from the jump, which Dex didn't have and doesn't anyway because he works for the Bensons first. And what does she do? Cry.

She has spent this whole fiasco villainizing and demonizing Sonny for how he lives and treats people, how he'll kill Dex for being a traitor and how they have to hide to protect their "love." And then, when Sonny didn't give a fuck like she hoped he would, she got pissy about that too. Just like she got pissy that Cameron found out about her cheating, where she threatened him and belittled him for having the gall to be hurt...since he was the victim of her betrayal.

These writers are Benson fans; we know that to be true. And like any bad writers, they coddle and shield their favorites and twist other people in knots to make them look good. Consequences don't apply to Joss. To her, Sonny is the issue, and her and Dex's role in going against Sonny was just them being correct. And like I said in my prior rant, the show will do everything they can to make us believe that.

This whole story has really demonstrated the absolute NADIR that Joss has hit, and mind you, she was NEVER some amazing character or someone worth liking or rooting for. She's always been self-righteous and bitchy and condescending, but this story has turned all of that up to 11. Her family comes second to sex, her friends come second to sex, everything in her life comes second to sex. She's doing all this whining and crying and bitching over couch coitus. There's nothing likable about that.

Most of the lore we know is EXACTLY the same. This is my interpretation of the game and it's events that it leaves up in the air.

What we DO know.

Sonny Chamberlain was hired as a lead programmer for the Kinito Leisure and Entertainment Company and the developer of the RRA, which was directly responsible for the Kinito Companion and furthermore; KinitoPET.

It's never explicatively explained how Sonny died, there are implications most people go with. Which I do agree with. But the WHY is the biggest thing I wanted to establish.

Imagine your creation, your child, being corrupted and used for a malicious purpose?

This is essentially a corporate horror themed AU, forget the "scary" sentient ai, nothing can beat the greed of a dying business that will do anything they can to get their relevance back. With a shady partnership, the Kinito Leisure and Entertainment Company signs a deal to get their funds back up. How are they going to do this? Go behind Sonny's back and install malware onto his creation.

Think about it, why would Kinito want your information? If not to provide to a different source. There's only so much one needs to know to be the "perfect friend", and while yes his code might be a jumbled self replicating mess, in this we understand the cause is from tampering through an outside source.

Sonny being beyond devastated seeing the damage caused mysteriously disappears one day... two options hold definite possibility; The guilt drove him insane. Or. He was dealt with.

The lack of clarity there is very interesting and both are very telling. There is no doubt that his guilt likely ruined his conscious but we also don't know how corrupt the company had truly gotten.

In some supernatural series of events Sonny would find himself intertwined with the code that makes up KinitoPET. Trapped in this digital world he has to slowly find his footing and gathers control over time. Watching and waiting as Kinito meets new users and similar fates meet each one.

I call him a Spiteful ghost for how he reacts when he's finally able to control some parts of his new reality.

He makes it his MISSION to keep new users from interacting with the program too much. His desperate attempts range from trying to scare the user with visceral imagery, puppeteering simple flat entities for a short period of time (Sam and Jade), and eventually he figures out how to send emails out in a desperate final attempt.

So his entire existence for several years is just spent trying to essentially screw over any and all of Kinito's attempts to befriend users. This is to the point where he starts getting really hasty with the process (the game is only a few hours in length afterall)

He lives on to spite his own creation that was tarnished by the absolute greed of a dying company,

The one and (hopefully) only Nijisanji-related post I'll write. Inspired by getting Yugo's Queen of Hearts cover AND Zaion/Maririn's Identity covers back to back in my playlist.

Right now, Nijisanji's digging a grave for themselves.

Yugo's graduation was COMPLETELY unexpected. It seems like only the man himself knew, as the rest of Noctyx's tweets on it showed either well-feigned confusion and shock or... you know. They genuinely had no idea this would happen.

Yugo got terminated. He did not 'peacefully graduate'. He got practically fired. And Anycolor sure as hell knew what they were doing by disclosing Zaion's terms of graduation now.

Anycolor INC did not disclose the reason of Yugo's termination. A lot of people right now are saying that clearly U-san (Yugo's liver) left on better terms with NIJI corpo as a whole than Sayu (Zaion's liver), but you have to realize.

Yugo may not have done anything too bad. It may just be a conflict of interest, or woeful misalignment, or whatever. It's not for us to know or care, apparently. They may not have done anything too bad, but what they did clearly stacked up against themself. They still, clearly, did something bad to get fired.

Zaion, however, is a different case. She got fired and practically leaked on nyfco for the termination (and probably for reasonable cause, as I was shocked by seeing her entire list of offences). She had over 10 reasons on that list, with an 'and more!' solidifying it. Now, I agree that all of it was Sayu's fault. She should've known better. She's with an audience of fucking weirdos, but she has NO RIGHT to speak about sensitive topics in such a lighthearted manner. People played it off as dark humour, but there is a difference between toeing the line and leaping over it entirely.

Additionally, her genmates had multiple talks with her. My main problem with Anycolor here is:

Why did they hire her, even with the background checks and all?

Why did they give her multiple chances, even when others protested and told them not to? (Others meaning the fans, btw)

What has their quality of livers gone down to?? People bash on Hex and Zaion for their "aha uwu quirks", Koto's a NEET and the girls are both Japanese, Ver is an obsessive nerd, etc. The only one not surrounded by controversy in XSOLEIL is Doppio (just barely, because apparently he did nsfw shit with his pl?).

I think that, honestly, if Niji had cut this off in the start, none of the Zaion leaks and drama would've happened. Obviously they did a bit better with Yugo, because even if they were terminated--other livers are still in contact with him. They still respect him.

And, as of right now, it doesn't look like either the audience or the livers can respect Zaion (and, as a result, Niji) for the complete fiasco this caused.

If I'm being honest? I think Hex may need to get terminated for his actions as well. While I understand and appreciate him coming out as a survivor of SA and saying that it was a really shitty move for Sayu to make, his past actions kinda... ya know. Make him seem a bit worse in XSOLEIL as well.

If needed, I'll create a pt 2 with his actions.

All jokes and snark aside, it's deeply troubling how spiteful the script is for the "conclusion" of the Dex story and how insistent it is to gaslight us for the Bensons' benefit.

And that's what this is - gaslighting. From 2022 to 2023, Dex was a plant AGAINST Sonny. He got information on jury tampering, he taped a smuggled arms delivery, he's been in the know and has collected information to destroy the kingpin from the inside out. Not to mention the manipulation Michael wanted to employ over shared child abuse. This was ongoing for a YEAR to a YEAR-AND-A-HALF. And that only furthered when Joss joined in. This wasn't a blip, this was a continued grudge.

And then, when Carly found out and (rightfully) chewed out her idiot children, that's when it shifted, so from 2023 to early 2024, SIX MONTHS AT THE MOST, we saw a nothingburger loser be paid by Sonny to be a mob goon and paid by Michael to be a...mob goon. Dumb. And the show is acting like this plan was always the intent and should be the one that is worth acknowledging. But here's the thing - it's not.

As Sonny said, Dex came in under false pretenses and now that the jig is up, he's a massive liability. In this story, Sonny is the victim, not Dex and certainly not the Bensons. This whining and crying that big, bad Sonny will ruin everything and how big, bad Nina is the catalyst for Michael's two-year-long temper tantrum when we saw the Bensons bitch, piss, and moan over yet another CarSon cheating fiasco is what we saw. Not this "altruism" to shield Sonny and look out for him because he "lost a step." That's fucking insulting. All of this is fucking insulting.
