“i really don’t.”
“are you sure?”
“i’m sure, matthew.”
“ooh. full name.” he mocked a wince.
the two of you were currently talking about chris’ recently deleted instagram story.
it was already bad enough that fans had spotted the two of you on a date and chris’ post only added onto the situation. they may not have noticed that it was a date, but you were a girl with a guy and naturally, people assumed that’s what it was.
chris posting that picture on his story practically confirmed the two of you were talking.
and no matter how quickly matt got his brother to delete it, people still managed to get a screenshot of it.
his comments were filled with people asking if it was you he was talking about. matt, out of respect for you, ignored them.
even though he had posted a picture, tagged you and even mentioned your name in some of their car videos, fans still couldn’t seem to grasp that matt sturniolo was possibly dating tik tok’s rudest tattoo artist.
oddly enough, you thought the comments about you being rude or disrespectful were funny.
none of these people have actually met or spoken to you personally, so their opinions meant nothing.
while friends like vinnie hacker, nessa barrett and now the triplets have defended you, the fans still couldn’t look past your naturally unbothered expressions and accept that maybe you weren’t so bad.

“we’re back at the tattoo shop!” nick shouted at the camera, earning a look of annoyance from the youngest triplet.
“nick, there’s no one else in here, there’s no need to yell.”
“it’s more reason to yell.” nick scoffed, “i’m not bothering anyone.”
the triplets were doing a simple vlog for this video. with their comments being filled with questions on matt and his possible relationship, rather than video suggestions, they felt like it was better to avoid having a chance to talk about it.
kind of hard to do so when they were going to the source.
the tattoo shop you worked in.
matt knew it wasn’t the best idea to get tattooed by the girl everyone thought he was dating, but you were also the only person who did his tattoos the way he liked.
it definitely wasn’t an excuse to see you.
it was, but no one had to know that.
“you’re bothering me. stop yelling, you’re giving me a headache.” matt rolled his eyes before focusing back on his phone screen.
from the chair he sat in, chris could see his brother was texting you, wondering when you’d be coming in.
they had gotten there before you showed up for work. both a good and bad thing in chris’ eyes.
his brothers could look through the designs they wanted, making it easier for you when you got here. but he was ridiculously impatient so he had to wait until you got here.
“oh! i’m giving you a headache?” nick sat up, readying himself for an argument, “and all those times i have to listen to you whine about how much you like—“
“yn!”

your head snapped at the sound of your voice, smiling slightly at the sight of the triplets.
“hey, guys.” you repeated the same greeting to the camera once you realized nick was recording. in your mind, it seemed like the best idea.
maybe if you addressed the audience as you would your clients, the people behind their computer screens wouldn’t be so brash about your behavior.
out of respect for you, nick lowered the camera a bit when matt jumped up to pull you into a hug.
“you’re here early.” you mumbled into his shoulder.
his arms tighten around your waist, “we didn’t want to have you waiting.”
“he’s been talking about you all week.” chris snorted, fist bumping you as you lead them to the back.
you waved at alyssa as you responded to chris, “all good things, i hope?”
“only good things.” chris exaggerated his words, “it’s getting exhausting.”
“i’m sorry me being the topic of conversation is draining to your ears, chris.” you joked, earning a laugh from the three.
as you sat down in your chair, you turned to them expectantly, “so what are we doing today?”

matt looked away from the tv screen and at you, “how so?”
you showed him your phone screen, his eyes squinting at the brightness before they adjusted to see the instagram comments on their newest post.
‘yn is all you mention’
“fucking shit.” he groaned, rubbing a hand over his face, “i’m sorry.”
“it’s okay.” you reassured him, looking back at your phone.
“it’s not. i don’t want you getting unnecessary hate just because chris can’t keep his mouth shut.”
“i don’t think they’re too worried about hating on me anymore. and even then, i told you not to worry about it.”
his eyes soften, “i’m gonna worry. you don’t deserve that.”
“no one does.” you shrugged, “but are we gonna do about it?”
with that, you ended the conversation. as matt thought over your words, he couldn’t help but sigh. you were right, there wasn’t much either of you could do.
but he knew that eventually, people would either get bored when they noticed you truly didn’t care or realize that they hated for no reason.
he could only hope that realization came soon.

While I'm not in the fandom, I'm still a fan, which means I follow some people to keep up, and I'm interested in what Nick and Taylor will do next.
The thing here is that there's a group within Twitter fandom that's demanding more from Nicholas. And while they're aware of his need to promote two more projects, him signing books in LA and Milan when possible, leaving Taylor on his TikTok following list*, it's not enough.
Personally, most of these stans are being dramatic because they're not getting more. So, instead of being rational, they start to “joke around” (I'll come back to this later)** by saying Nick doesn't care, he moved on, he doesn't want to be part of a sequel, Taylor and him are not friends, and they bring up his personal life and socmed activity.
A part of me wants to think these people are very young and incredibly online, so they base everything around it, ignoring real-life interactions during their outbursts. Another part of me thinks they're shippers, which eventually ends up being problematic because they see their interactions through that lens. If they don't interact, they hate each other, they are just co-workers, or something happened between them. If they interact, they're besties, they love each other, or they are something else. Like, on socmed, there's no winning for them. It's intense. You cannot see all of that, read some nasty comments, and then say, “I miss when Nick was more active here.” Like, it's obvious why he doesn't want to be active.
I sent you an ask weeks ago about parasocial relationships, and I think these things go along those lines: Most of these people think they know them, they understand their reasoning, and while we do have snippets of their personalities, we don't know them. We're not their friends, and we cannot justify bullying and nasty comments as “it's just a joke, people take things too seriously” because you think it's nice to destroy someone else's work just because you don't get your Instagram likes.
I even read “Nicholas owes us more pictures and content. It's the least he can do.” And he did, for a few days. But he's an actor — he'll have more gigs and eventually RWRB will be another project dear to him. And so for Taylor. And Taylor is signing all these books and going to these events because can go, and most importantly, it was his first leading role. He's extremely proud of the project and of him as an actor. And he'll also move on eventually.
What's more annoying is that we're all aware of a sequel project, and just because Nick is not talking about it any more, they go, “He won't do it because he hates it/now he's too big,” not noticing that they're also implying that Taylor is “less important,” which he isn't. Matthew already said that if Taylor and/or Nick aren't on board, there won't be a sequel, but hardcore fans decide to ignore that part. Nick has never been part of a project this big that actually can have a decent sequel, so there's a big chance of him being part of it. He does care.
I think some people are just very dramatic, and they're not responsible about what they write. So, based on that, it's best to curate your experience as much as possible and recognize problematic accounts/takes on people immediately. Otherwise, it won't be enjoyable.
*I think Nick has been doing some cleaning (I think it's common for him, said by people who have followed him for a while) and he's working on more projects with awarded actors. I think that Taylor has become a good friend of his within the industry, which is good. They've also said Nick's socmed activity is very random and to not be taken seriously because he does a lot of random stuff, but then again, people ignore that.
**Usually these replies come when people start to point out that their comments are wrong, cross boundaries, etc. It's like a way to deflect. But you can tell that it's not really a joke if it's repetitive, which is what's happening right now.
I truthfully don't have much to add. Your points are absolutely spot on, and you organized it very clearly. Thank you for this.
I think I'll just one thing, I was talking to @pippin-katz about this whole rivalry issue, and they said the problem is these people want certain things from the boys, and when they don't get it, they become these violent, malicious comments.
We as fans are not in a position to dictate how they should live their lives. Frankly we're not in any position to dictate people how to live their lives, no one but our own. People need to realize this.

The Last Hours Fashion Pt 2
Chain of Thorns comes out TOMORROW!!!! Just in time, here’s my analysis of the official art by @nicole.deal.art in terms of historical accuracy. I’ve already reviewed the girls’ outfits, so now it’s time for the guys!
There aren’t as many primary sources available for Edwardian menswear, and men’s fashion in general tends to change less from era to era. Men’s business and formalwear has stayed basically the same shape for the past 130 years. Keeping that in mind, let’s look at some of these pictures and see how well they hold up.
James
James looks pretty good! The picture looks like it’s at night, so he’s probably wearing evening dress. The high collar and cravat is a distinctly Edwardian style, as seen in the outfit on the right here:
This guy is also wearing a wrap-around waistcoat in a similar style to James’. To make it really accurate, he’d be wearing a hat and jacket, but this picture is obviously showing a fight scene so I can imagine that he lost both at some point. If we’re being really pedantic, James’ hair should also be a bit shorter, but I appreciate that a haircut is probably not high on his list of priorities right now.
Accuracy: 8/10
Matthew
Matthew is a self-described bohemian, and is also very concerned with fashion, so we can expect his clothes to be a bit more colourful and decorated than was possibly the norm. This is also at night, so eveningwear again. It looks like he’s wearing a tailcoat— if you look closely, the cut is similar to the ones in this picture from 1904:
The slight problem with eveningwear is that every source I’ve found suggests that Edwardian evening dress for men was almost exclusively black-and-white tuxedos. In fact, menswear from this time was pretty boring in terms of colour. However, Matthew is, as mentioned, a bohemian, and textually wears very colourful clothing. Same issues as James re: hat and hair, but I can justify it the same way as with James.

The gloves are also interesting. Evening gloves were almost always white, whereas these are dark grey, but I’m prepared to believe they’re either Shadowhunter fighting gloves or worn for warmth in the street after a party.

Thomas and Alastair
They’re wearing Shadowhunter gear, which there are obviously no historical references for, so I can’t really analyse it. I’m interested in how their gear differs— Thomas’ seems to be mostly leather, whereas Alastair appears to be wearing a vaguely Georgian puffy white shirt with metal throat, shoulder and wrist guards. We don’t have very many canon images of Shadowhunter gear, so it’s interesting to look at.
On a side not, Cassie said on her Instagram that this picture is of them in an abandoned Paddington Station. I’ve been to Paddington, and the background looks absolutely spot on. Kudos to the artist!
Accuracy: 10/10 just for the background.
Jesse
I don’t have very much to say about this one. The shirt is pretty generic but the trousers are interesting. The distinctive front flap with the two buttons isn’t a style you see with the Edwardians, who have moved on to someone more resembling the modern fly. And yes, I googled “how did the Edwardians fasten their trousers” to find this information. Jesse’s trousers more resemble Regency breeches, as you can see in this pictures:
This is interesting, considering the links I drew between Grace’s dress and Regency fashion in my last post. Guess we’ll find out tomorrow if my time travel theory was correct!
The jacket looks like a fairly Edwardian standard coat with the sleeves rolled up. Not much to say except that the deep green colour is possibly slightly unrealistic but it’s a tiny thing.
Accuracy: 6/10
Christopher
Christopher’s hard at work in his lab, and accordingly isn’t wearing fancy clothes. Like Jesse, this is a fairly basic trousers and shirt ensemble that fits pretty well with the period.
Things get interesting when we start looking at the apron and goggles. PPE (personal protective equipment) isn’t strictly fashion, so I had to do a bit more digging into this one as it’s not an area I knew much about.
The goggles could be period inaccurate, depending on how you look at it. The first form of eye protection for welding was developed by the inventor Powell Johnson in 1880. Johnson called his invention “eye protectors” and it was simply two strips of opaque cloth that could be seen through while still offering some protection.
Safety glass— glass coated in plastic to prevent shattering— was invented by Edouard Benedictus in 1903, when TLH is set. However, it wasn’t until 1909 that the first safety glasses were invented by Julius King. So Christopher’s eyewear is about six years ahead of its time. On the other hand, it’s entirely possible that Shadowhunters— probably the Iron Sisters in particular— were using protective eyewear before mundanes and Christopher is simply adopting the technology. But if we’re going by a purely historical standpoint, the goggles are a bit off.
The apron nearly drove me insane because I could not find any sources from the Edwardian era that show a similar style. The best I could find out is that bib aprons have been worn for welding since the 1880, so it’s reasonably accurate. Christopher really needs to pull it up a bit higher, though. Your shirt’s getting scorched, mate. PPE is no joke.
Accuracy: 5/10
As a last note of interest, while I was researching I came across this image I just had to share. It’s a cartoon that appeared in the Tacoma Times in 1903 and satirically depicts “men’s clothing designed by women”. Look at these guys. The og malewives. Poor little meow meows.
