Too all the fools who said seeing old men on stage was a waste of time & money. “Why would you pay to see a bunch of old guys on stage?” Let me tell you, for the musicians who see themselves continuing this as the vision they pursue with the same passion as our elders have endured. You would be lucky to pursue such a career as these legends, let alone have the same energy & youthfulness. Just to have a glimpse of that is enough inspiration to stay inspired. RIP Charlie, Steve Jordan was holding down with such an attitude. I cant stop thinking of how he just maintained the groove with such respect and reverence. It was what he was hired for that particular reason, but his attitude is what really changed my life as a musician. We're so stoked to go. Honestly, I'd given up on going to high profile events a long time ago because they're overpriced and the tickets are insane to get. My life requires me to always be checking my inbox for work opportunities so it's a pain, always being connected. This morning though, what a gift. And often times, these bigger profile events are upper deck but these tickets...I'm truly grateful. I love the Stones because of their place in our history. A sound and voice of many seasons, during the war, civil rights... The Stones have a track in my soundtrack of life as well. A young mischievous boy doing community hours at the local theatre and one of the plays was heavily doused with the Rolling Stones. As many of you know, Steve Jordan is my favorite drummer. I’ve been scouring the globe for a Yamaha Club Custom which he helped design. I couldn’t believe that a local session drummer had it in storage and was willing to part with it While Steve Jordan’s drumming has become synonymous with his work with John Mayer, I have been a fan of his playing for long before that. I’m a guitarist. Guitar players at some point develop an affinity for Jazz/Fusion players and I was no different. Steve’s work with Robben ford, John Scofield and David Sanborn are incredible drumming albums that are often overlooked. His playing with Keith Richards in the 80s and 90s is a masterclass in laying down an incredible groove. Of course all the live work he’s done with so many incredible artists should also be mentioned. So while his work with John Mayer does have some influence in my drumming DNA, it’s definitely his earlier work that I still consider a drumming touchstone So since I’ll never be able to even get within 1000 miles of his incredible feel, I’m hoping this drum kit will help me get a little closer to getting that Steve Jordan thing. I’ve heard my stick reviews are interesting..... Cool..... I love doing them. 1. The @vicfirth @terry_bozzio_official signature sticks have the feel of a 5A with an unusual oblong tip which tapers inward toward the taper of the shaft. It seems to draw the tones out of toms in a uniquely expressive way at all dynamics. Beautiful. 2. The #vicfirth #stevejordan #signature sticks have the feel of a 7A with a @dennischambersofficial mini barrel tip from when #dennischambers signature sticks were made by @regal_tip . These felt so thin they were bending on backbeats. I wouldn’t feel comfortable playing these on a heavy rock gig, but at a restaurant gig like @mintons_harlem they’d be perfect. 3. @travisbarker @zildjiancompany @zildjiansticks signature model feel like a longer and thicker @willcalhoundrum signature stick. Being very forward heavy, they were a challenge to play with sensitivity. The white paint 🎨 is great for showmanship. 4. #jimmycobb is a living icon. 5 words: Miles Davis Kind Of Blue. One of the greatest recorded performances of this civilization was recorded by the designer 👨‍🎨 of this stick. I was surprised by the 5B thickness of this “swing” stick. The thickness is compensated by the long taper which resolves into a “non existent” tip similarly to what one would cap with a nylon tip. It feels great while doing a rock drummers impression of #blueingreen . My favorite stick out of these 4 pairs. Still doesn’t inspire as much confidence in me as my usual @promarkbydaddario 5B Oaks but for #spangalang it’s close..... Enjoy.
