Chapter 1 | Chapter 2 | Chapter 3
Gordon and Trench come face-to-mask.
------
Fake base located and other family members quelled for the time being, the three brothers lay in wait among the shrubbery of the little island they were on, munching on some rations from Thunderbird 2’s hold. The Thunderbirds themselves had been hidden to the best of their ability, only Thunderbird 1’s bright silver being truly visible through the leaves. As they waited, the conversation from earlier picked up speed again.
“So, if Commander Shore working it out wasn’t what spooked you so much, Gordon…” Scott, ever the big eater, chomped on his protein bar. “What was?”
“Yeah, we were there in the room with you. Nothing else he said was too out of the ordinary.”
Gordon sighed. He wasn’t exactly thrilled about telling them this. “You know how he said Stingray was down a crew member?” His brothers nodded. “That’s what I’ve been worried about. Shore told me that ‘Betrayal never comes from an enemy’. The reason he said that is because the crew member, whoever it was, went rogue. Abandoned the WASPs. Quite possibly joined Titan.” The aquanaut shrugged, acting more nonchalant about the whole thing than he felt. This whole thing had been his exact nightmare since the war with Titanica had begun. “He couldn’t tell me the full thing, so he was speaking in code.”
Scott and Virgil’s eyes lit up in recognition. Of course, it all made sense now. “And…” Scott started. “You think whoever it is will come here to meet you?”
“Why not just kill me if that’s not the case?” Gordon answered honestly. “Why use a tracker instead of a missile?” He held up the tracker itself, a small aquamarine light on it flickering. “Everyone on that crew are smart. It stands to reason that whoever’s defected just uses those smarts for another cause now.” He sighed, looking down. “The wrong cause…”
Unbeknownst to him, his brothers exchanged a look. “Whatever happens, we’re here for you.” Scott whispered, and the three Tracy’s looked out to the waves.
Gordon looked up at them, smiling gratefully. “Thanks, guys.”
Ahead of them, the waves slowly and steadily receded as low tide began, almost lulling them to sleep. “When do you think these Aquaphibians will get here? I’d quite like to sleep at a reasonable time tonight.” Virgil sighed.
“How about right now?” An artificial voice behind them answered him, waking all three of them up instantly. A quick look behind them confirmed it. Five figures stood menacingly, clearly having been waiting for the right moment. Gordon immediately took notice of what the centre figure wore. He wore a fully aquamarine coloured uniform, at least Gordon assumed they were a ‘he’ based on their overall build, the boots a somewhat darker shade and seaweed that wrapped around his leg. On his hip, a teal scabbard held a sword with a silver hilt, with a golden seashell at the very end. The mask on his face confirmed his Aquaphibian allegiance, but he was clearly human. And clearly the one in charge. “Get them, boys.” He ordered, pointing at the three IR operatives.
“Move!” Gordon ordered, his WASP training kicking in. He delivered a swift kick to the Aquaphibian that was about to pounce on him, watching in satisfaction as the sea-dweller fell to the ground, unconscious. He risked a look at his brothers. Scott was also putting his military experience to good use, and also had a knocked-out Aquaphibian in front of him. Virgil, unlike his brothers, had no military background, but that didn’t mean he didn’t know how to defend himself. “Go for the gills!”
The leader of the undersea group watched as the three of them continued to incapacitate the forces he’d brought with him. Soon, International Rescue had finished taking out the Aquaphibians, and he stepped back as the trio walked towards him, the pilot of Thunderbird 4 just a couple of feet forward from the others. As they glared at him, he smirked at them, although they couldn’t see that.
“Oh, Gordon.” He sighed, robotic voice still hiding his true identity from his old friend. It didn't matter, the aquanaut would learn who he was soon enough. “You should know better than to turn your back on your allies.” Gordon gasped, spinning around quickly, but not quick enough to save Scott and Virgil from getting tackled by two hidden Aquaphibians. And this time, now that the sea-dwellers had their fins on them, there was no way out. Gordon could’ve cursed. He knew he shouldn’t have dragged them into his business. “Or should I just come out with what I know and call them your brothers?” Gordon’s stun gun was on the enemy in front of him in a flash. “I wouldn’t do that if I were you. My men are very…” Guns cocked behind him. And the aquanaut knew they weren’t aiming at him. “Trigger-happy...”
He had no choice. He threw his gun down, even as his brothers behind him protested the move. “Who are you? What do you want?”
“In Titanica, they call me Captain Trench.” He took a bow, eyes still on the angry IR operative in case he tried anything. “Second-in-command of the Aquaphibian army, right-hand of His Majesty. Mighty King Titan, and ex-WASP.” He huffed. “Although I do hope I can drop that last part from my introduction someday.”
Gordon scoffed. “And who are you really?”
Captain Trench chuckled. A tinny sound that grated on Gordon’s eardrums and frayed his nerves. “You’ll find out soon enough.” He gave his subordinates keeping a tight hold of the other Tracy’s a nod. “Take the prisoners to the sub while I… catch up with my old friend…”
“I swear Trench, if you hurt them-”
“You’re in no position to demand things of me.” Captain Trench almost hissed, but did his best to keep his tone neutral. “As long as you cooperate, your family will be unharmed and returned to you once our little chat is over. Consider it an assurance for me that you won’t rip me to shreds once my men have left.”
Gordon huffed, taking one last look at his brothers before they were carted off in different directions. They both offered a silent promise that neither of them could say out loud with the Aquaphibians clinging to them. They would be alright. “Fine.” The aquanaut stared warningly at his new enemy, and alleged old friend. “But if your slimy excuses of men lay even a single finger on them, I will retaliate.” He watched as his family disappeared further into the undergrowth.
“Ironic, coming from a man so dedicated to preserving lives.” Trench commented.
“Once you attacked us and took my brother’s hostage, all bets were off…” He shot back.
Trench nodded. “Fair enough.” He gestured to the beach in front of them. “Shall we?”
“Let’s.”

"THE PHANTOM BEAST!?" was an outraged cry that shook the whole city of Titanica, "How dare she have the audacity to rise up from the depths of her hell, to challenge me!? The Great Mighty Titan!?"
"W-We weren't sure if it was her..." X-20 fumbled his fingers. The Aquaphibians who were accompanying him looked shell shocked from the ordeal.
"No! It was definitely her! Teufel sensed her terrible presence when it happened!" Pointed out Titan, his eyes staring at the aquarium where his 'God of the Sea' swam with great unease.
X-20 gulped at the confirmation.
For many Marine years since she have left her mark of her wrath, many underwater races made prophecies of the Phantom Beast's potential return, all of them shrouded with uncertainty and fear.
And no one, aside from those wretched Pacificans, dared to utter a word about her since then.
The question is... Why had she decided to return now? Thought the surface agent, Did something disturbed her from her deep slumber? Was she after... Stingray?
"X-20!" a yell from his master startled him out of his thoughts.
"Yes, oh Great Titan?" he replied with readiness.
"What happened to Troy Tempest?" Titan demanded, his eyes had a slither of hope.
"He and his crew managed to escape unharmed."
"What!? Didn't the Phantom Beast damaged their precious Stingray!? I thought she supposed to finish them off!" The King of the Sea growled in shock annoyance.
"We could never explain who's she's after, oh Mighty Titan. She's as unpredictable as the sea itself," X-20 quickly explained.
Titan smacked his fist on the manchette of his throne, then got up and begrudgingly walked towards the big circled window showing the outside.
As he did, he dismissed the Aquaphibian soldiers, which they bowed and left the throne room, leaving him and his surface agent on their own.
X-20 turned to look at Teufel again. The surface agent had never seen the Sea God very stressed before. Seeing that made him feel a cold chill running down his spine.
"M-Maybe, we should stay away... for your safety, your Majesty," he warned. He nearly shook at the mere thought of meeting the foul beast again.
Titan, his face still staring at the window, muttered with venom, "I'll never forgive her for what she had done to my precious pet..."
X-20 had to withhold a sigh.
"Ah, I remember. Back when she first began her rampage, you have unleashed one of your elite sea giants to destroy her, only for it to return badly burnt and some of its arms cut clean. Now, it had been hiding in its cave since then." He raised an eyebrow.
"Yes! I'm glad you remembered, X-20!" Exclaimed the King of the Sea, "And now that she have returned after so many long Marine years, this will be my opportunity to exact my revenge!"
X-20 turned to Teufel once more with a deadpanned expression and quietly let out a nervous chuckle, "Hehe... We're gonna die..."

Stingray, A Soft and Simple Shanty
Tumblr media
“Dr. Richards wants that data.” Diane said to me, short dark hair barely falling past the backs of her ears. She was dressed in swirling psychedelic patterns, a base of deep sea green with crescents and reaching coral limbs of red and pink and blue.
“Dr. Richards will get that data. If he wants to find a better way to get a reading of strange mineral deposits several miles down and three hours sail off the coast of Oahu then he can do it himself. Until then, he'll take the time table I give him.” I said, standing up tall.
Diane stopped, a smile kinking up the right side of her lips.
A stark white bodysuit and crimson shorts, boots and gloves. A red strike up the center with a starburst taking up most of my chest and a helmet tucked under one arm with no facial features save for a curved arrow pointing down. The suit's “cape” or “wings” extended down from each arm, segmented with long stripes like the feathers of some titanic sea bird.
“What?” I asked her, smiling as if I didn't already know the answer while she approached me. She set down the clipboard against the bolted down table on the deck of our research boat. She pushed herself up on her tiptoes and kissed me.
I sighed, closing my eyes softly and wrapping my arms around the small of her back. Cursing the suit's environmental seal for not letting me feel her warmth on mine.
“Just thinking about how dashing a figure you cut, Stingray.” She said, taking the helmet out from under my arm. She fitted it over my head gently, clicking both latches shut in one motion. With a shrill little beep the helmet's HUD flashed to light in a squint inducing shade of red that wouldn't be lost against the ocean backdrop.
“'Stingray' is for when I'm doing something unwise around people with guns or who can toss trucks like footballs. Now what you CAN say is that Dr. Walter Newell, savant oceanographer and inventor cuts a dashing figure. Stingray is a part-timer.” I said, sweeping her back up into my arms and getting close. “Your husband is here for every second.” One of my gloved hands reached down over her forearm and laced my fingers into hers, running the tips of my fingers along the gem of her wedding ring. A teardrop of aquamarine in gleaming silver. Yes, Aquamarine. No one can ever accuse “us” superheroes of not being blunt as battering rams.
“When you get back from your day job, Mr. Part-Time. I'd like to take you up on that…” She said as I stepped up on the edge of the boat.
“Mmm, careful. Bad for the ecosystem if I start turning sea water to steam on contact.” I said and thrust my arms out to either side, wings snapping up, glittering red in the sun.

You had always been fascinated by the ocean, drawn to it really. You supposed that most people were. The ocean was where all life originated, after all, and perhaps there was some innate desire to return to where one once came from. A desire so strong that it was embedded into the very fabric of one’s being to be passed on to future generations.
That’s what you mused, anyway. You, however, had very little experience with the sea, having grown up in a land-locked area of the country. The closest you had ever been to a large body of water was the local lake in the nearby state park. The closest you had ever been to the ocean, were the times you had successfully convinced your parents to take you to the aquarium in the city. You would spend hours there, entranced by the different creatures. You’d stare as the all the fish and different sharks swam above you in a timeless dance that you so desperately wished you could join in. Your favorite part, however, was always the stingray pool. You loved how affectionate the creatures seemed to be, eagerly swimming closer to the surface so that your fingers could glide down their backs. You could stay there forever if the aquarium didn’t have a strict closing time.
Your love for the ocean translated into your every day life too. You had several figurines from your visits to the aquarium, but your prized possession was a stuffed cownose ray your parents had gifted you oh so many years ago that you had affectionately named “Rusty.” This often surprised people, who assumed it would be the porcelain figurine your grandmother had brought back from one of her overseas trips for you
The mermaid was beautiful, yes. Her skin glowed with how pale she was, hair floating like she was still in the water. Her tail was painted a light blue that almost looked silver. You adored the figurine, of course, but she was certainly no rusty.
So, it came as no surprise to anyone who had met you that you chose to pursue marine biology in university. Your parents had been so proud when you had been accepted into Duke University, but they had also been hesitant.
“That’s a long way from home,” your father had reminded you. “If something happens, it’ll be hard for us to come and get you.”
“Your father’s right, dear,” you mother had frowned. “Are you sure you want to do this?”
And you had been. You had never been more sure of anything in your entire life. So, you had packed what you could and your parents drove you out to your new home for the next four years. You had made several friends during your time at school, but the one that stood out the most was Bob Floyd.
Bob was a quiet guy, but he was funny and quick as a whip. You had met him in one of your biology courses freshman year, and you found out quickly that he was also studying marine biology.
“What got you into the field?” he had asked you.
“I don’t know exactly,” you had hummed. “I suppose I’ve just always loved the ocean.”
You turned to him. “What about you?”
“Me?” He laughed. “Oh, I grew up on the coasts. Right here in North Carolina, in fact. My hometown is just a couple hours away from here.”
“Oh, so you’re a local,” you grinned.
“I suppose you could say that,” he smiled.
You two had been inseparable ever since. Well, at least during the school year. You would take small trips with your girlfriends during weekend breaks, only flying home for the longer ones, much to Bob’s annoyance.
“When are you gonna take me up on my offer to just spend the summer at my folk’s place?” he huffed in a laugh. You rolled your eyes playfully at him from where you lay sprawled out on his bedspread, several textbooks scattered around you. Bob was seated at his desk, textbooks also cracked open as the two of you studied for finals. “I’m serious, y/n. It’s senior year, and I’d really like if my best friend would come hang out with me for the summer.”
“I don’t want to be a bother,” you started, stopping when Bob scoffed, shooting you a scowl.
“You’re never a bother. And where’s that same attitude when you’re over here eating all of my poptarts?”
“That’s different,” you giggled.
Bob glared playfully at you. “I beg to differ. Besides, you’d be doin’ me a favor. I’m always so bored when I’m at home. I could really use the company.”
“Wow, what a ringing endorsement,” you joked, Bob rolled his eyes. “I’ll think about it, alright? I want to see what my parents have planned.”
As it would turn out, your parents had planned a trip abroad for the whole summer, and you were left with no other option but to accept Bob’s proposal.
“Don’t sound so happy,” he had laughed. “You love the ocean, and the house is right on the beach.”
“I am happy,” you countered, loading your bags into the back of his car. “But, I’m worried that I’ll just be an imposition.”
“For the thousandth time,” Bob said with a dramatic roll of his eyes, “you are not an imposition. My parents love you, remember? Sometimes, I think they like you more than they like me. Do you really think they would have let me invite you if they didn’t? Hell, I had to fight’em to keep’em from inviting you themselves.”
Bob’s parents were a sweet couple. Susan was a stay-at-home mom turned entrepreneur, while Richard was a tech developer, and both absolutely adored their only son. They had latched onto you the second Bob had introduced you to them during one of the home football games they had driven up to see, and now they considered you the daughter they never had.
“How did they react when you told them I was coming?” you asked him with a grin. He rubbed his chin thoughtfully.
“Pretty sure there’s a mountain of balloons waiting for us when we get there,” he mused, closing the door to the trunk. The two of you rounded the different sides of the car before getting in. Once your seatbelt was fastened, you looked up to see Bob giving you a peculiar look. You returned it with a confused one, and he looked down pointedly at your lap.
“Rusty does not sit in the back,” you said, hugging the stuffed ray closer. Bob let out a little laugh as he held his hands up in surrender.
“You sure you remembered everything?” he asked you as he started the car. You nodded, shifting in your seat to get more comfortable.
“I’m sure.”
“Alright then,” he grinned, turning to you. “Let’s get goin’.”

Last chapter, here we go!
Chapter 1 | Chapter 2 | Chapter 3 | Chapter 4
Gordon learns who Trench really is.
------
The walk along the beach was surprisingly peaceful, and Gordon found himself relaxing a little, although he knew there was no way he could fully let his guard down.
Trench broke the ice. “So, you must have questions. What do you want to know?” He asked in that tinny voice of his.
“Okay, that one’s easy enough.” He chuckled without any humour. “Who the hell are you?”
Trench paused. “Oh, right. Thanks for reminding me.” The mask was off before Gordon could even blink. He held back a gasp when he saw who it was. “It’s been too long since I felt the crisp sea air on my face. Can’t take the mask off in front of the Aquaphibians. I’d be dead in two seconds flat.”
“Troy Tempest…?”
The man in front of him bowed. “The one and only.”
Gordon frowned, trying his best to regain his composure. “You’re the last person I’d expect…” Shore hadn’t been kidding at all, had he? This was bad. This was really bad. “You and Titan hate each other.”
Troy hummed. “That was before he… shall we say… opened my mind to Marineville’s faults.”
More like brainwashed, Gordon thought, but didn’t say aloud. “What about Atlanta? Phones? Fisher? All the people you left behind? I’m sure they all miss you.” When Troy didn’t answer, Gordon changed tactics. “Okay, then what about me? I know you’ve met Scott and Virgil before, so that explains how you knew we were siblings, but it doesn’t explain how you knew I was IR.”
Troy smiled. “X20. He was on a routine mission to Marineville and overheard your little conversation with Shore. Which he then reported back to me.” They approached a large rock, and Troy gestured for Gordon to sit next to him. Gordon glared at him in reply, but eventually complied, fearing what might happen to his brothers if he didn't. “It was simple to set up a disaster that would be too hard for International Rescue to ignore.”
“So it was you who attacked the USS Rodgers.”
“I would’ve thought that would be obvious. It was my tracker that allowed me and my men to follow you here.” The other man hummed. “The plan originally was to follow you to your base and seize your technology. Well, that was Titan’s at least.” Gordon raised an eyebrow. “My plan was to just talk to you. I’m glad you found the tracker. Makes my task of explaining our failure to the King easier.”
The aquanaut froze. “Wait, just making sure I’m understanding. You were never going to attack our base? You really were just going to talk?”
Troy grinned. “I may not be on the surface dwellers side anymore, but I still consider you a friend. And Titanica has no pre-existing quarrel with International Rescue. Attacking you would be unwise.”
“You’ve changed your tune.” Gordon hissed, not falling for any of it. “You were taking my brothers prisoner less than ten minutes ago, and now you’re saying that ‘attacking us would be unwise’. I see right through you, Tempest.” He frowned. “Or should I be calling you Trench now?”
Captain Tempest, Captain Trench, whoever it was in front of him, sighed. “Look. I meant what I said. No harm will come to them. As a matter of fact, if the Aquaphibians hurt them, I’ll end them myself.”
“Bet Titan won’t be happy about that.” Gordon scoffed.
“I learned he doesn’t care a long time ago. So long as someone does the work and the work is done.” Troy retaliated. “And I learned that when I was in WASP.”
“I see.” An uneasy silence followed. Gordon had just one question to ask. “Okay, I’ll bite. Why talk to me in the first place? Why not just disappear?”
More silence. For a minute, Gordon didn’t think Troy would answer him. But eventually, he did. “To say sorry.” He said in a low voice. “Sorry I didn’t manage to say goodbye.”
Gordon’s eyes widened in realisation. It had been too quick, leaving WASP after his accident. He hadn’t been able to stay at Marineville General for long. His injuries had needed to be specially treated. And since he’d already been honourably discharged following the whole mess, he’d never gotten a chance to wave farewell to the group of aquanauts who had taught him so much, who’d done their best to steady him and be a secondary family. He’d never gotten that closure. But then of course, neither had they.
“I’m sorry too. Sorry that I lost touch with all of you. Sorry we’re on opposite sides now…” For the first time since Troy had made his presence known, Gordon looked at him. Really looked. “You look exhausted, Tempest.” He said honestly, and was surprised at his own concern. “How hard is Titan working you?”
“Oh, it’s not that bad.”
Gordon gave him a look, channelling his best Scott impression. “Troy.”
“The undersea races don’t need as much sleep as humans do.”
The look hardened. “Troy. How much sleep do they get?”
Troy winced. “Four hours? At most?”
“And Titanica is the better option over Marineville?”
The other aquanaut huffed. “I’m not going back there.”
“Then leave Titanica at the very least. You don’t have to work for WASP. Just…” Gordon paused. “Just come back to the surface. You said yourself, you haven’t felt the air on the surface for ages.”
Troy sighed, looking out to the sea. “I can’t do that. The ocean is my home now…” He frowned. “Plus, I’d be in for one hell of a Court Marshal. They’d track me down, make me pay for leaving WASP, and then I’d be stuck in a prison cell.” He laughed dryly. “What sea air would I feel then, Gordon?”
“That’s what you think, Troy, but the truth of it is that WASP will defend you. And that’s because you didn’t leave. You were taken.” Gordon frowned when Troy froze, confirming his worst thoughts. “I’ve got it, don’t I? Titan abducted you. He moulded you into someone you’re not, and then he forced you to fight your friends.” Troy’s continued silence was damning. “Tell me I’m wrong!”
“How dare you speak of Titan in that way? He saved me from that life.” Troy’s voice was barely above a whisper, and Gordon immediately knew he’d pushed too far. He couldn’t stop himself from looking down. He knew though, he was right about what Titan had done. The tyrant couldn’t kill his worst enemy, so instead he shaped Troy and his mind as he saw fit. “I will not return to life on the surface.”
Out the corner of his eye, Gordon noticed the mask slip back on. He supposed Trench was fully back. A crunch was heard as he crushed something in his hand. Gordon recognised the tracker that had let the Aquaphibians follow them here in the first place. “I will not tell His Majesty about this conversation we had, but I believe that conversation is over.” He pressed something on his collar, and began speaking in the Aquaphibian language. Gordon could only barely make it out with the little he’d been taught at WASP. His brothers were being released. “As promised, your brothers are unharmed. I strongly advise that the three of you leave. The rest of your family must be worried.” He gestured in the direction of the Thunderbirds, letting Gordon lead the way there.
The aquanaut breathed a sigh of relief when he saw them standing there in front of Thunderbird 2. He broke off in a run, just wanting to stick to them like glue now. When they saw the look on his face, they frowned. Scott glared in Trench’s direction. “He didn’t hurt you, did he?”
“No! Absolutely not. Just…” He looked back at Captain Trench and his Aquaphibian men. He didn’t like what he saw in his old friend, now a new enemy. “I just want to get home.”
His two brothers nodded, clearly agreeing with his decision. It had been a difficult day. And as Thunderbirds 1 and 2 both lifted into the air, Gordon processed everything that had just happened. It took a while. All throughout the journey home and the debrief, where Scott had the unfortunate task of telling their father what had just happened. Jeff Tracy was out for blood now, and Alan had looked mortified. .
Gordon took his secret to bed with him, locking the door for as much privacy as he could get with three brothers in the house and one able to get in contact from space at any given moment. He turned on his video-call, taking a deep breath as he typed in the familiar number. His heart beat in his chest as it rang. Finally, the person he was calling answered.
“Hello?” Voice only. Dang it. Oh well, it was better than nothing.
Swallowing down his nerves, he continued what he’d started. “Hi Atlanta. You probably don’t remember me, but I’m Gordon Tracy. I used to work with you at WASP.”
The woman on the other end gasped. “Of course, Lieutenant Tracy! It would be difficult to forget you.” Gordon smirked. His reputation still preceded him, then. “Father said he’d contacted you about temporarily replacing a crew member. Have you changed your mind?”
He shook his head. “I’m afraid not. I called to talk to you about something else.”
“Oh?”
“I, umm…” He hesitated. This wasn’t going to be easy to tell her. “I… saw Troy earlier today.”
“Oh.” Atlanta’s voice wilted. “So you know then.” It wasn’t a question. “He tracked you down.”
“Yeah, and…” Gordon sighed. “I just wanna talk to someone about what he said. Someone who’d know…”
“You don’t have to finish that sentence, Gordon. I understand. Do you want to talk now?”
“Yeah, I would.”
So that’s just what they did together. They shared what had happened among themselves. The conversations they’d had with Troy since his turn and how they felt. And Gordon felt so much lighter, to know he wasn’t alone in this feeling.

Using mermay to motervate meself into Finally giving my oldest (most baby cinamon roll) OC the art and reference sheet he deserves!!!
Another meet Stingray folk. This is Tim. Or Tola or Tokla, or ToklaTima, or he who speaks for his highness. He has many names and he's my sea monkey Starbucks shape-shifting mermaid.
Notes:
Tola lives and works in Pacifica as a translator to Aphony and his guests. When not doing that as well as teaching lil uns plus, hes also learning about and documenting thier culture. (He's also trying to research his own which he was separated from.)
He then gets caught up in Stingrays shenagins and gets roped in to help, becoming an occasional translater/ emissary/ messenger/ guide for the WASPs and the humans point of contact.
Originally tolka set to appear in 'Seasick' but seeing as thats on hiatus and I love him so much I've kinda a little one seprate shot to introduce him
He/him pronouns. to place his age but I put him bout 18-24 ish human wise and maturity. He does have a baby face tho.
Originally more "lister from red drawf but in the sea," in personality my sweet sweet boy became a bit less of a lad then lister but I kept his hair thou. He likes to put beads or shells in his dreads.
Soon as he hits salt water boom tails stead feet. Very H2O and not in his control. Can transform in fresh water but more control.
His spepies can normally shape-shift with more control to resemble many things. but as he is half human his abilities are limited. Has three forms, human looking and mer although they take energy to maintain. His 'true' form settles between the two although it goes cause his body to flux a bit where helis weight settles in his body and can make him a little clumsy at times. Has feather like spines in his hair and along his shoulders.
Again half human. His mother was sudued by and 'married' a sailour. She and tola were castout from her home/people because this but settled in with a nomadic tribe (disappearing ships kinda vibes). His mothers people were then under Titains rule. Tolk Tried to find his father once. Didn't work but gave him an excuse to cross the oceans.
Has studied in London, Liverpool and Manchester (that's how he ended up being called tim) as well as several other cities. Swam in the cannels and rivers.
Can breath underwater but cannot go as deep as some species for as long. Very fast and strong.
Can speak and many languages both above and below including understand Pacfica and aquaphibians.
Always curious. Loves it when people info dump. Easily frightened but is brave still. Does try to seem cleverer then he really is sometimes. Strong bit shy.
Can often take things literally, Gets his words muddled a little and funny phrases. but again MULTIPLE LAUNGUES
Surfer dude meets dark academic. He loves human trinkets and bright colours but also librarys and books. Wold wear flipflops/sliders with suits.
Has a crush on Fisher. Still a little in awe of Marina and the Stingray crew.
Aphony is fond of him and Marina takes great delight in having someone to talk and relate to. Sophia despite her no nonsense attitude treats him as she does many of her young relatives. Josker absolutely affectionatly bullies the hell out of him.
And that's my boy! Hopefully finish it soon

The rescue came swiftly. After the divers attached Stingray to a big crane boat, they lifted the damaged strike vessel up to the surface and brought her and her crew all the way back to the safety of Marineville base.
Though, after a throughout examination, the crew was faced with some awful news.
"A month to fix!?" cried Troy in disbelief.
"Yes, Captain." Shore confirmed, holding the report papers, "It seemed that whatever Stingray had her underbelly scraped on caused some significant damage to her circuitry and her ballasts."
The Captain let out a silent sigh of disappointment. That means they'll be out of action for a little while. And good heavens, he prayed that Titan, any fishman or madman with an ego the size of Neptune doesn't strike at this moment.
"Gee... Talk about a really tough skinned creature to cause such damage to our Stingray," Phones scratched his head with a somber look.
"Tough-skinned?" The commander frowned. "Look at those big fissure marks, man!"
Commander Shore pulled out a detailed photo of said marks of the strike vessel's underbelly, with the sea weed covered metal plates that was used to seal them off removed.
The marks were huge, scrapped across the belly in a slightly diagonal direction. The pair of hydrofoil also had being damaged, one from where the marks started and one where the marks ended. It looked like as if a giant cat had scratched her badly.
"How big was that 'Ghost Creature', again?" Shore asked.
"Commander, that thing was massive! Twice the size of Stingray!" Troy raised his arms to emphasize the scale. "And she was pretty fast too!"
"Did you see what it looked like?"
"We have no idea. All we saw was its silhouette and her ghost lights in the dust cloud, sir." The young Captain concluded.
Shore laid the papers on the front of his Hoverchair and began traversing across the control room with a focused look.
"Big. Tough. Fast. Stealthy. Can glow like an angel fish. Have razor blades for a spine... And powerful enough to tear a Terror Fish into bits without breaking a fin..." He muttered to himself.
Meanwhile, the Stingray crew watched with a little concern. Including the Control Tower operators, Fisher and Shore's daugther, Atlanta.
"Troy, do you believe that this 'Ghost Creature' is no ordinary animal?" asked the red-headed lady.
"I doubt it is, honey. It seemed a bit too humanly intelligent, even for a whale," Troy replied.
"What do you mean, 'humanly intelligent'?" Fisher raised a thick brow.
The captain pulled the old gas torch from a bag and placed it on the table.
"You don't see a big scary creature go over to you and pass you this old treasure everyday," Troy said.
Atlanta took the old welding device and examined it with Fisher. The tool was nearly burnt out of its necessary gases, according to the meter. So it was a little lighter than it was. Despite looking rusty for its age, it was still functional and had done its purpose.
"That thing's pretty old! Like... A 'century and a half ago' old!" Fisher exclaimed.
"Yeah, we thought so too!" Phones joined in.
"Mind you, it dropped to us with the old rusty metal plates," added the Stingray Captain. "Which makes me think that the 'Creature' was smart enough to know their purpose for our situation. Isn't that right Marina?
Marina, who stood between Phones and Atlanta, nodded with a confident smile.
"That means the thing we're after is mostly likely isn't a living creature at all."
Everyone immediately turned to their commander as he approached them.
"What do you mean, Commander?" Troy raised a brow.
"Look, no animal on Earth was capable to damage or destroy heavily armored ships with such force!" Began the commander, "And have such intelligence to follow Stingray undetected and pulling things like this out of its ass!" he pointed at the old gas torch, as if it was the clincher to his argument.
"Father, language please," Atlanta gave him a tired look.
Shore raised a hand in protest, "Pardon my French," then he continued, "Now, here's the plan: once Stingray is fully repaired, we'll go back to find it again. And see what this 'Ghost Creature' really is. Understand?"
"Understood!" Everyone said in unison.
After getting a dismissed order, the crew went back on their usual duties, with Troy and Phones hoping that their beloved Stingray gets fixed soon.
~~~
In the darkness of the night, away from the lights of Marineville, rose a giant shadow from the sea. Breaking the surface, it began to move slowly parallel to the Californian shores.
Unseen and undetected, it watched the base where Stingray was kept.
It may not know how long its little sister and her crew would return, but it could wait... for a very long time.
Samegawa and Mizu’s sword
okay I’ve been writing blue eye samurai fanfiction (please help me what the fuck I don’t know who I am anymore) and the problem with medievalists is that some of us tend to also be big on early-modern everything as well. Which means I cannot keep myself from doing research for a damn cartoon fanfic because the call of Edo period Japan is entirely too strong. Which means I had to look up shit about swords just now because I do not know a goddamn thing about swords except I do know that boning someone on the floor of a traditional blacksmith’s forge is not actually super enjoyable, but that is neither here nor there
And I have learned many things about swords, most importantly: why the fuck the hilt of Mizu’s sword looks Like That
If you are like me, you were maybe thinking “bubbles? It’s a bubble design??” But it is not that and is so much better than that
Tumblr media
Many katana are made with a special covering layer for the tsuka, the sword hilt. Samegawa/samekawa is ray skin— yes, as in stingrays— or shark skin wrapped around the tsuka. Often it is covered up by tuska-ito, the woven cloth or leather that you see on most katana or wakizashi (big sword n lil sword). Here you can see Samegawa has been used on the sword’s sheath /saya and you can kind of see it peeking through the tsuka-ito (not a great pic sorry).
Tumblr media
The samegawa lends grip to the hilt, and it seems like there’s variation in style preference for completely-even-looking Samegawa, some kind of polished flat kind (first image), or this kind which I think looks even cooler:
Tumblr media
Is that not sick as hell?? The uneven bits?? It’s like looking at a stick made of individual little pearls, so cool. (That might actually be synthetic samegawa but I don’t know the difference so)
so the bubble effect on Mizu’s sword is actually stingray skin, have fun picturing Mizu fishing for, gutting, and drying out a manta ray, the end
Listen all I'm saying is if I had any ability to write fanfiction you bet there would be a modern day, marine biologist au of Newt and Hermann where Newt is this crazy guy who works in a small seaside town aquarium, whose always running around in scuba gear and Hermann is a visiting postgraduate there to gather research for his thesis
Newt has like a million things going on at once, he's rehabilitating a seal, he's diving in sea collecting samples, there's shows he puts on for the town, he's scrubbing crabs, theres stingray babies to raise
Hermann's just there trying to figure out why a specific type of fish has been migrating to this seaside town for his thesis and he's losing his mind with this guy who can't stop for a second to talk to him but he needs him as a source for his research!!
also Hermann would have this teeny dachshund who wears little sweaters and coats and has a resting "can we go home now" face that follows him everywhere
just cus he would
It would be beautiful and have that Ghibli essence were a newcomer has some crazy but magical experiences and overtime comes out of their shell and falls in love with the area and the townspeople and the other marine biologist but yeah that's the pitch
