Unfortunately stoneleopard would have been better than any of the actual options we get. To be fair it’s still a good SE but if contradicts what Kate just wrote about leopard not wanting a mate.

All I can think of (based on how its been described to me of how this relationship has been implemented) is that at the time of getting the original draft of the outline Kate had to write there wasn’t mentions of romance with Tiger. But later the editors decided they needed them to have a romantic connection so had a few things thrown in at a later stage while it was being written

Ok so. I was thinking that leopardstar and stonefur are pretty similar to Emma and mr knightley* respectively (obviously not 100% match) and that they learn and grow from each other like Emma and mr knightley. But there are also other parallels like mudfur and Emma’s father (concerned with everyone’s health vs. being a literal doctor) and blackclaw and mistyfoot marrying each other.

* Emma’s knowledge that she doesn’t need to/won’t marry if she doesn’t want to, matchmaking (which is kind of a thing in LSH but I know you haven’t read it), plus the personality match. Mr. Knightley trying to advise Emma/ see the consequences of her actions.

And then there’s the whole “if I loved you less, I might be able to talk about it more” quote which comes from mr Knightley but if we’re being real, could apply to both leopard and stone.

I’m not really sure about Harriet in this, since I think Sasha would be the closest equivalent but I’m not going to put tigerstar in mr. Martin’s spot.

It’s not 100% fleshed out and i would have to re read Emma before actually doing anything with it but I have So Many thoughts if you’re curious (or would love to hear anyone else’s).

He does not read as a docile mate-turned-deputy, waiting for his leader’s instructions, but as a coiled threat, waiting only for Leopardstar’s word to strike. He is looking up at Fireheart and Blackfoot and yet his is the gaze that makes Fireheart want to shrink furthest.

nothing is going on with the half clan cats because tigerstar can't exactly imprison his girlfriend's husband, can he?

i have Plans for other things, dw. (alcides: an au where the plot development happens in side stories.)

as for how long...stonefur and leopardstar have been together basically forever. that's how i always like to write them. stonefur has been following leopardstar basically as long as he's been alive. it was a pretty natural progression of things. i can't remember where i establish/will establish some of the details, but they're just Like That.

i'm not exactly sure when tigerstar comes into the mix, but he's fairly recent. we're talking...maybe around the beginning of tpb? i'm undecided.

anyway as a "thanks for the question i really like this au" treat,

Leopardstar churrs when he finishes. “That’s enough, Stonefur.” She nuzzles his cheek. “You did good.” He’s panting, breathless, and doesn’t bother trying to speak. “It was very impressive,” Tigerstar agrees. Stonefur’s ear flicks. He’s not doing this for him. He’s doing it for her. (Always for her.)
