Hello! In your post about Makoto and Ken, you mentioned movie Ken is your favorite. As someone who’s only played the game, I was wondering what subtle differences there are between movie and game Ken?

hey there! I'm very honored and glad you asked cause I feel like movie Ken is an underrated aspect of his character because of one key substantial difference: He actually was close to Shinjiro and admired him... before learning the truth.

spoilers for Midsummer Knight's Dream!

In the games, it's clear that the catalyst for Ken joining SEES was after he found out Shinjiro was the killer of his mom right before summer vacation was to end and he was supposed to go back to his elementary school dorm. So, he entered SEES (in his eyes rightfully) hating Shinji and with the goal of getting strong enough to kill him. Shinjiro joins right after, Ken himself being his reason, and they literally never talk... the tension is so palpable! There's also this trifecta of sorts that the developers wanted to convey which is pictured above... how Ken admires Akihiko, while Aki admires Shinji, while Ken hates Shinji. the monorail scene in Full Moon, Full Life is symbolic for this.

The movie's take on it though.. provides a slight nuance to this.

In the movies, a handful of characters become narrative foils/parallels to further develop Makoto Yuki's character such as Chidori, Natsuki, Takaya, Pharos obviously, Fuuka, etc. But one that's always stuck out to me was Ken Amada.

Right off the bat, Mitsuru assigns Makoto as Ken's bodyguard because they "share similar backgrounds". Both are orphans who lost their parents to the Dark Hour. Ken is aimless at this point, wandering about during the Dark Hour to kill time. He declines living in Iwatodai dorm even. But then, he thinks he found out the killer of his mom is actually the shadows, specifically a large one with a hulking body and blond hair. This is during the attack on the shrine where Koromaru protects it (cool thing about the movies is that we see the actual moment Koro-chan fights, instead of just the aftermath this time!). Ken's resolve is made and he joins SEES to eradicate shadows. Akihiko looks away quietly in this moment. Shinjiro rejoins SEES except it was Strega that gave him the info that Ken joined. The tension is still palpable, except this time Ken is none the wiser.

Ken immediately takes to Shinjiro because Shinji protected him during a Full Moon attack. He's so strong, everything Ken wants to be. (Nevermind Shinji's own reasoning for jumping in was his brand of punishment...)

This brings me to my final point. It's no secret by now that my favorite is Makoto, and the way that Ken's words echo Makoto's own thoughts about his mom is so quietly tragic to me that provides a layer of depth to both their characters we never really get in the games. They were both driven by their own mothers' influence and deaths.

Life was not worth living after they were orphaned, but now, they can finally live again... recently in Reload the Ken and Makoto parallels I mentioned were that they basically share the same dread, and self-isolation tendencies but I like this sentiment in the movie that there's healing to be found in the little things again :( Makoto and Ken were both healing...

anyways uh. since this is Persona 3 we all know how this ends which I will not spoil because I really, really like what they did with Makoto and his role in Shinjiro's death in the movies (+ the aftermath of it) but! I'll leave with these insane af frames

"Thank you for coming with, Yuki. Coming here alone can get tiring." Akihiko admitted as he and Makoto walked to the shrine. The blue haired boy nodded. Words were not his forte, Akihiko knew. But a nod was more than enough verbal confirmation for him that he did not mind coming with.

"I didn’t know him long, but he was a good person." Makoto spoke, his voice quiet. Akihiko smiled sadly, looking down.

"He was. He really was." he chuckled, the two arriving at the grave. He requested to be buried here once, when he was hanging out with Akihiko. The two sat down, silence filling the air. Makoto closed his eyes, head hung low while Akihiko had his hands in his lap, gripping them tightly.

"Hello, Aragaki-senpai."

Last time on P3R: fun, not-fun, and another full moon!

So I went back into Tartarus because two people wandered in like… three days before the full moon. So I gotta go get them. BUT. Elizabeth informed me that there was also something else in Tartarus I needed to rescue.

HOW did you get to the 72nd floor, kitty??? I mean, we got him out, he’s fine, but just ?????????

Elizabeth also requested another outing, this time to Naganaki Shrine. We had a great time. It’s actually really refreshing to have Elizabeth around. In a world where everyone seems to be some shade of unhappy, she’s full of wonder about the small things.

She recognizes a slide and a jungle gym, which means she’s seen them before somewhere. Do you think the Velvet attendants were kids once, like Lavenza? Now I want a whole room of the Velvet Room that looks like Discovery Zone.

Anyway, it’s full moon again. We’re off to an… abandoned underground military facility on the north side of the city. We didn’t have any trouble getting in, but once we arrived and determined that the shadow was deeper underground, we were surprised by two out of three of our weird trio of midnight assassins.

At least they’ve introduced themselves now.

Strega is pissed off that we’re trying to destroy the full moon shadows and Tartarus, because… they’re selfish, basically. If we get rid of the Dark Hour, they might lose their powers.

They like running around in a hidden hour, playing god. They like being untouchable assassins. And they don’t actually think Apathy Syndrome or anything worse that might come is something to worry about.

I mean… he’s not wrong, considering how many times over the course of Persona canon that humanity has almost destroyed itself. But like… dude. We still have to try.

Takaya and Jin lock us in the underground facility. Kudos to them, I guess, for not just shooting us dead right there. If they’re not killing anyone but their targets… at least they have some sense of decency? So, rather than banging on the impenetrable steel door, we’re going to head down into the dark to go look for the shadow.

...fun.

There are OLD ROCKETS AND DEAD BODIES DOWN HERE. Why would you just leave this stuff like this, wtf????

Anyway, something like 30 meters underground, we find the Justice Shadow! Or maybe Chariot?

Or both! It splits in half when you hit it hard enough. Which… the only thing that seemed to hit it hard enough was my theurgy abilities, so that was kind of a slog. They also do the thing where if one dies, the other revives it, so you have to balance your attacks so you can kill them in the same turn. I liked it. And the designs for these were cool. Half the full moon shadows so far have had really good designs, and the other half have just sort of been “...okay?” XD

So after the shadows are down, we call Ikutsuki to inform him that we won, but we are stuck in the base.

We all make it back safe, though, and Pharos comes to visit literally the next night. I feel like I should be concerned that he showed up right away, but that’s fine. Hi, dude.

Elizabeth gives me a chain-of-deals sidequest the next day, with the weird stipulation that she doesn’t want anything specific. She just wants me to trade the random bandage she gives me and turn it into something cool. I traded all over Iwatodai and ended with…

If she’s happy with what I got her, I’m glad. ^_^

Mitsuru calls a meeting in the evening, and we learn that Koromaru is better, and officially joining the team now!

No one’s really sure how this tech works, but with Aigis translating, we learn that Koromaru wants to help us because we saved him. He’s such a good boy. T_T

With the shadows eliminated and our fluffy new teammate, I’m ready for the rest of summer to be aweso---

...you know, Mitsuru, when I jokingly called you “mom”, it was just that. A joke. You didn’t have to do this to us. I’ve already had a week of mandatory track practice.

Fuuka claims that it’s only for “a few weeks”, so we should make the best of it. Actual school starts again in less than a month!! When do I get a break!! There’s at least two part-time jobs I haven’t even managed to try out yet because there’s no time!!

At least if I’m back at school, maybe I can rank up some of my school social links…

But first, we’re going on an outing with Junpei for some summer fun. We’re gonna smash a watermelon! And learn some more about Junpei in the process.

Instead of using Junpei’s childhood bat, Akihiko smashes the melon with his bare hands. Which… holy shit, senpai.

Adding injury to insult in terms of my summer break, Ikutsuki has decided that we all need to go to the doctor. You’re not my dad! Leave me alone! But I cannot refuse. We’re going one at a time, and my appointment is on the second to last day of summer school (which is only a week, btw, Fuuka).

Summer school sucks, though. Like… not only is it another week of just “go in, see cutscene, go home”, it takes my evening slots away too! Six days of getting nothing done, and the worst part is, even though it gave me points towards my academics for each day, my academics still didn’t rank up!! Ugh. X’’’’D

Thank god you can pet Koromaru.

When Friday rolls around, it’s off to the hospital for a checkup, which… goes very weirdly. Apparently Minato’s took much longer than everyone else’s, because his persona power is so unique. They had to run so many more tests! But, uh… what kind of tests are you running on personas at the hospital? That’s weird, Ikutsuki. What are you testing for?

He comments on how we’ve been making so much more progress since Minato arrived in Iwatodai.

Apparently my fucking doctor’s appointment took so long that by the time I get back to Iwatodai station, it’s midnight. Like, wtf, Ikutsuki. Fuuka’s on-call with Lucia to make sure I get home safe, but before I can go anywhere, she detects a shadow in the city, like the night Koromaru got hurt.

LET’S GOOOOOOO, MOONLIGHT BRIDGE.

Sprinting off to Moonlight Bridge, I do not get to actually run around, but I do find Takaya and a weirdly fucked-up-looking Abbadon.

Minato and I are not willing to leave anyone to die, even if it’s this dude, so we team up to take out our common foe. Takaya’s gun is really effective, but we also get to see him summon his persona.

Dude looks like he’s in pain while summoning, and no wonder, considering what his persona looks like.

We successfully take out the shadow, and Takaya leaves before Mitsuru can show up to get me. But not before acknowledging that he owes me for my help. We’re enemies, but he doesn’t leave his debts unpaid.

Dude’s bonkers, but again, apparently has some sense of decency in there somewhere.

The summer festival rolls around, and it’s nice. We went with Aigis and Mitsuru, to give Aigis some more regular human experiences.

...I just suggested that we hold hands!

Koromaru is also a regular part of the household now, so you can spend time with him like you do your other teammates. Either going for walks, or…

You know what? Okay. Let’s do it.

Lastly, since NONE of my school confidants are available to rank up, I guess we’re going out with the Gourmet King, again. Who is 100% legit in a cult and I am uncomfortable.

Next time I need to head back into Tartarus to see about the new area that unlocked. I’ve been trying to go for like a week, but stuff keeps happening at night! God, P3, I’m trying to manage my time and you are killing me. I’ve resigned myself to the fact that I’m not gonna max everyone’s links this time around, but I want to at least try, you know?

(( I know I've probably rambled about this on my old blog but that blog isn't here so I have an excuse to repeat--

I am just so fascinated by the thought of a religious character being in Persona? I'm not religious myself, and I mean, I know Takaya's not the best example-- but he IS an earnestly spiritual person, as in he functions like one ( to the best of my understanding- ), and that makes him just such an unusual Persona user, and such a fun inversion of the protagonist. Takaya puts his faith in higher beings, ( a huge no-no in the persona series lmao ) he considers it a virtue to show reverence to things of the "spirit world" even if he has to actively fight that thing, ( I use to write him talking to Teddy like he was an entity lmao ) he takes comfort in prayer, he sees the control of gods as necessary regulation-- like a parent, i guess as a religious person would say ( and that's tragic for an orphan to say-- ) instead of dictatorship, like.......

That's interesting! And unique to Takaya! ( maybe Jin and Chidori its hard to say- ) Especially because in Persona there is this sort of background detail of always going to religious shrines, and I wonder if the infamous god killers ever feel a bit awkward around normal religious people, especially ones with any religion where humanity is destined to end in some god ordained rapture or armageddon, which is quite a few religions,,, from that religious perspective, is Nyx's fall really all that frightening?

So its always a lot of fun for me to write Takaya doing his whole bit and questioning the framing of things in a way that only he would, I think that's what makes him a ( potentially ) great antagonist because he's not simply a bad person but someone with an utterly opposite ideology from you. Its why he kinda considers himself a spokesperson for the god's side of the argument-- as in, a prophet. ))

1. Kawaguchi Asama Shrine – Yamanashi

After a 10-day long devastating eruption of Mount Fuji in 864, Kawaguchi Asama Shinto Shrine was built the following year to worship the goddess of Mount Fuji, Asama no Okami (浅間大神).

Every year, on 25th April and 28th July, the traditional chigo no mai (稚児の舞; children’s dance) is performed to appease the god. Children aged 11 to 12 years old, typically girls, dance in front of the shrine to the tune of flutes.  

2. Shirahige Shrine – Shiga

Situated in Lake Biwa, the largest freshwater lake in Japan. Shirahige Shrine is dedicated to Sarutahiko of Mikoto, the god of longevity.

After sunset, the torii gate is lit up for 2 hours on weekends and even longer on special days such as New Year’s Eve.

3. Futami Okitama Shrine – Ise

Popular among newlyweds and couples, Futami Okitama Shrine is the place to be for those seeking blessings in their love life and marriage.

The Meoto Iwa (夫婦岩), or “wedded rocks” are inseparable pair of rocks – the big one representing the husband and the small one the wife – are connected by a shimenawa (sacred rice straw rope).

4. Motonosumi Shrine – Yamaguchi

Legend has it that in 1955, the spirit of a white fox instructed a local to build a shrine. Obliging the deity’s request, the man built and lined 123 red torii gates along the edge of a cliff.

Today, the shrine attracts visitors who are hoping to pray for wealth, studies, pregnancy, and even fishing.

5. Takaya Shrine – Kagawa

Dubbed the “torii in the sky”, Takaya Shrine in Kagawa Prefecture sits atop the 404m-tall Mount Inazumi. The torii gate of the main shrine overlooks a panoramic view of the city of Kanonji and Seto Inland Sea.  

6. Sakurai Futamigaura – Fukuoka

While the Meoto Iwa in Ise is better known for its sunrise views, travellers flock to Sakurai Futamigaura in Fukuoka to watch the sun set.

Every May, a ceremony is held during low tide to change the shimenawa. As the rope measures over 30m in length – almost half the width of a football field – and weighs over 900kg, as many as 50 people are mobilized for the switch.

7. Udo Shrine – Miyazaki

The cliffside Udo Shrine is perched on the rocky Nichinan Coast, south of Miyazaki City, surrounded by magnificent waves.

Legend has it that Toyotama-hime, a goddess of the dragons and sea, went into labour on land. A maternity hall was built in a hurry, in a sacred cave, and Toyotama-hime gave birth to Ugayafukiaezu no Mikoto, who was later enshrined as a deity.  

Today, the birthplace is better known as the main shrine of Udo Shrine. Thanks to its history, a visit to the shrine is considered to be beneficial for couples trying to conceive, and expecting mothers praying for a safe pregnancy.  

8. Amano Iwato Shrine – Miyazaki

According to Japanese mythology, the sun goddess Amaterasu hid in this cave after a destructive battle with her brother. Refusing to come out of the cave, her isolation cast darkness over the world. It was only when the other gods and goddesses came together to devise a plan that Amaterasu was lured out, returning light to the world.  

The period between November to February is the prime time to visit as that’s when the annual Takachiho Kagura – a shinto ritual consisting of festive folk dances – is held. The main event is held on 22nd and 23rd November, but the dances are performed every night between November and February.  

9. Kuratake Shrine – Kumamoto

The remote shrine was built to protect the sea and to pray for the safety of fishermen. For that reason, you’ll find a ship-shaped vessel filled with empty shells of mina, a shellfish native to the sea of Amakusa, in front of the shrine.

Due to a flood in 1972, the mountain trail was closed to the public and only reopened in 2012. As a result, the shrine completely went under the radar, privy to only the most savvy of locals and budding photographers.

10. Naminoue Shrine – Naha

As the most prestigious shrine in Okinawa, Naminoue Shrine is widely revered as one of the 8 special Ryukyu shrines since the Ryukyu Kingdom era.

Affectionately nicknamed “Nanmin-san” by Okinawan natives, Naminoue Shrine is a power spot that can grant blessings for everything, from matchmaking to pest control. Chapter #1:

Aigis (and Yukari) are the last thing Minato sees as he falls unconscious.

Aigis catches a falling Minato in her arms, assuring him that she will protect him.

They trigger the all out attack on the enemy.

They look at each other as the team gathers around him.

Chapter #2:

Aigis cover.

They can be see sitting together in class (just like in the game).

Volume 2:

Perspective #1:

Aigis comes looking for Minato at the arcade and pulls him to herself to keep him away from Ryoji. Her hold is so strong that he almost passes out (LOL).

Aigis, Minato, Junpei and Ryoji go eat together (much to Aigis's chagrin). She and Minato share one stool.

Volume 3:

Perspective #1.5:

Aigis is looking for Minato, worried that he might be hanging out with another idiot (Ryoji) aside from Junpei.

Perspective #2:

Minato and Aigis are sitting together, asleep, on the train to Kyoto.

Minato calls out to Aigis, who is controlled by Ikutsuki, and makes her halt.

Aigis is unsettled to hear Minato is hanging out with Ryoji and Junpei. Fuuka jokes that she’s a little jealous Minato’s spending so much time with him, but Aigis explains it’s not “about frivolous things like love and hate” and that Ryoji is dangerous.

Volume 7:

Chapter #30:

Before going to face Ryoji, Aigis visits Minato's room and conveys her thoughts to him through the door. She explains that she believes she understands the concept of loss, and that "Your existence is special to me. I wish to remain by your side forever. That's why... I want to protect you. For now and always." Then, she apologizes for interrupting his studies and leaves before he can open the door. Left behind, a thoughtful Minato can only stare at the empty hall.

Plot #4

Their Yakushima meeting. Aigis hugs him and says that the most important thing to her is to be by his side.

We see the moment Aigis was under Ikutsuki's control, but from her own perspective this time. She thinks that as a machine, she is not able to understand things like "painful" and "sad". Still, if "being by [Minato-san]'s side weren't possible...".

Minato comes to check up on her, and kindly smiles at her.

Last Plot

Aigis vs Ryoji. She has flashbacks to the fight they had 10 years ago, and of young Minato.

Perspective #12

Minato runs to hold a collapsed Aigis in his arms and furiously asks Ryoji whether he did that to Aigis or not.

Volume 8:

Perspective #14

Aigis comes back to the dorm and apologizes to Minato for what she did 10 years ago. He thanks her instead. "No, Aigis... it is because of you that we are still alive today."

Minato can be seen smiling when Palladion transforms into Athena.

Perspective #15

The start of Aigis's S-Link. She and Minato take Koromaru out for a walk to the shrine. She also tells him that "By being with you, Minato-san... Before I knew it, my behavioral principle changed."

Perspective #16

We see a flashback to the Moonlight Bridge Trio together, and Minato smiling as Aigis tries to push Ryoji away.

Perspective #17

Minato compliments Aigis in her kimono: "It suits you well, Aigis." Surprised, Aigis blushes a little and thanks him.

Perspective #18

Aigis’ S-Link Rank 2. Aigis and Minato have a conversation on the school rooftop about Tatsumi port island, and Aigis monologues about how she is confused by the changes taking place inside her recently, and wonders if its a result of being with Minato.

Aigis S-Link Rank 3. Aigis begins to agonize about not being human. At the end, she looks at Minato and tells herself: "I... If I hadn't been created, I would have never met you all... I would have never met you. If I can stay by your side, then nothing should faze me."

Perspective #19

Aigis S-Link Rank 4-5. When Aigis asks if Yukari and Minato will help her search for the missing cat, Minato says “If that’s what you want to do, I’m willing to help” making Aigis smile brightly.

Junpei references the Yakushima ‘babe hunt’ and says that Minato ‘technically won’ (meeting Aigis) .

Volume 9:

Perspective #21

Aigis realizes she has feelings for Minato.

When she gets back at the dorm and he meets her eyes, Aigis is overwhelmed by her feelings and runs off to Fuuka.

While talking to Fuuka, she confesses that she has discovered "emotional pain". And that simply living and becoming more human is not enough, because she "wants to be with Minato" (or "needs" him, as the English translation put it).

Aigis doesn't quite understand her feelings just yet, but she says the same stuff about couples that she says in her S-Link. And that she has a desire just as important as her desire to live: being with Minato as a human girl would. So basically, her monologues from ranks 7 and 8 of her S-Link Rank are adapted.

Fuuka advises Aigis to let Minato know how she feels.

Perspective #22

Mixture between Aigis's Rank 9 S-Link event and their canon January conversation. Aigis tells him that even though Death is gone, she still wants to stay by his side. That she may not understand what it means to "live" yet, but she feels she will be able to with him.

Then Aigis tries to confess to Minato but struggles to convey her true feelings. So, Minato steps in to reassure her that "I'm only living now, the way I am... thanks to you, Aigis. So I'm... really grateful. Thanks."  with a smile.

After that, the scene goes back to their canon January scene. Aigis asks Minato to take her with him because she'll fight with him to the end. Minato tells her "Don't be silly. Of course I'm counting on you." and Aigis laughs happily.

Later that night, Yukari (who eavesdropped) comes to Aigis’ room to tell her she's planning to confess to Minato after the final battle, and hints that Aigis should do the same. When Yukari complains about how Minato is, Aigis says that "Minato is a wonderful person."

Perspective #23

They charge at Takaya together.

Volume 10

Chapter #47 (Part 1):

When the Aeon arcana is shown, a some of Aigis's moments with Minato are also displayed.

Nyx destroys Athena's weapon. A worried Minato turns to the defenseless Aigis, and has Thanatos block a hit to protect her.

When Aigis sees Messiah, she remarks that she "somehow understands." We then see a flashback to Minato and Aigis on the roof, where Aigis has some of the dialogues from her Rank 9 Event. "It is sad to think about, but we will part ways one day, too, Minato-san...".

As she watches the fight, we continue to be privy to her thoughts, all from her Rank 9 Event. And also: "You leave, and I am left behind... all alone...". Aigis eventually breaks down, grieving, and all of SEES come together around her to comfort her.

Volume 11

Chapter #47, Part 2:

Aigis sees Minato falling from the sky after taking out Nyx, gathers all her strength and goes to catch him in her arms (parallel to the first chapter): "Thank goodness, I... could... still be useful to Minato-san..."

When she realizes the state he's in (unconscious), she cries out his name.

As Minato leaves to take on Nyx by himself, Aigis screams at him not to go.

When SEES are sending Minato their Power, Aigis declares: “This world produced you. I will not allow it to be destroyed!”

Aigis laments that she was not able to protect "the one precious to me."

Then, she cries out for Minato to let them hear his voice.

When she sees him again, she breaks into tears and is surprised by the fact that she is crying. Minato smiles at her.

Chapter #48:

A memory-less Aigis sets out for the school, because "Something tells me that that is where that which is most important to me awaits..." (x)

Minato and Aigis come face to face, and their chance encounter triggers the return of their lost memories.  (x)

A shocked Aigis drops her umbrella as she takes off running (parallel to their first meeting), and we see Minato pick it up.

Aigis looks worried and anxious as Minato acts like everything is fine around the others. Sure enough, afterward we see him collapse on his bed.

Just like in the game, the next day Aigis knocks on his room to let him know she remembers, and to make sure he won't disappear like after the battle. 

Minato is too weak to stand and he falls on her. Together, they leave the dorm and head to the rooftop to wait for everyone.

Instead of laying on her lap, Sogabe has Minato lean against Aigis so they're sitting back to back. Aigis reminisces about seeing spring for the first time, and gives her monologue from the game.

Aigis tells him “I will live, too. In order to protect you...” and Minato thanks her.

Then, Minato explains that he is anticipating what the future of the world will bring because it’s the future they all will choose. Holding back tears, Aigis reassures him that “Please be at ease. For I will protect it all, by your side...”

Fall Semester 2018-19 A lot of catching up to do!

Surprise!

I told you I hadn’t given up on blogging!

Wow, last semester was CRAZY. Like I honestly had never been so busy before; but I survived! And I’ve cut back to just 2 part time jobs this semester, both of which I’m used to now, so it should be a little less hectic than last semester and I’ll have more time to focus on school (and hopefully a little more free time too).

Obviously so much has happened that there’s no way I can catch you up on everything, but here are a few highlights from the last 6 months!

October Machi Asobi!

Mabs and I went to Machi Asobi in Tokushima last October! (We always go to the Machi Asobi over Golden Week in May, but this was my first time going to the one that’s in October) We debuted our Little Witch Academia cosplays of Lotte and Sucy, and it was a lot of fun! These cosplays were a collaboration; Mabs made the dresses and I made the hats and wands. It was actually the first time we’ve worked together on a cosplay like that, and it was fun!

And we ended up in CosMode magazine! A dream come true!

YuYuYu Only in Kanonji!

In November we went back to Kagawa Prefecture for the Yuki Yuna Wa Yuusha De Aru only event!

We cosplayed Yuna and Togo of course, but this time we tabled and sold a variety of handmade goods! Mabs and I used to table and sell Touken Ranbu stuff at the OdeRai event in Takamatsu, but I always felt a little intimidated because there was already so much awesome Touken Ranbu stuff there. But with YuYuYu, I felt like the expectations were lower since it’s a pretty small fandom, so I actually had a lot of fun making things and selling them! My keychains didn’t sell very well (I still have a bunch that need homes; I should look into selling them online or something) but my stickers of Gyuuki attempting to eat all of the other fairies sold amazingly well, and I actually ran out before the event was over! (Mabs made a ton of keychains and even a really cute button, but I couldn’t find photos at the moment.)

We each made enough to cover our travel expenses, so that was great!

We stayed in Kanonji that night (at our old apartment, since the teacher who works there now was kind enough to let us stay there. It was really weird to go back to it) and the next day we went hiking up to Takaya Jinja, which is a shrine on the very top of that mountain.

It was a really tough hike; definitely the most intense hiking I’ve ever done, and if it had been any more difficult, I don’t think I would have made it. But the weather was perfect and we got to the top! The view is beautiful up there! It was totally worth it! Another good Kanonji memory with Mabs.

Kaiyukan Christmas Date!

For an early Christmas present, Mabs surprised me with tickets to the Kaiyukan aquarium!! I’d been wanting to go back ever since we first went a couple years ago, so it was the perfect present for me!

It was such a happy day!

They have not one but TWO whale sharks now!

And they were having a special illumination since it was winter! Kaiyukan looked so pretty with all of the lights and the giant light-up whale shark!

We rode the ferris wheel too of course!

Here’s my photo collage for the day! (They even had a diver dressed as Santa swim around the big tank and wave to everyone since it was around Christmas time)

Hawaii!

As soon as it was winter break, I went to Hawaii to spend Christmas and New Year’s with my family! (Mabs went back to visit her family too) It was so good to see everyone again, and it was actually the first time I’d ever spent Christmas in Hawaii. (My cousin’s new puppy is really cute!)

My mom took me to get my nails done as a Christmas present, and I had a lot of fun having my nails be all colorful.

My mom also did a kiwame Ookurikara photoshoot for me at the beach! We got some really cool pictures, and it was great to finally take kiwame Kara-chan out for a proper photoshoot. (Even though I’d made him like a year before, I had only taken him to events)

I finally got some kiwame sunglasses photos!

We saw this super cool art installation with hundreds of light-up flowers that changed colors to match the music that was playing. It was so pretty!

I could have stayed there and watched all night. I love big installations like this.

I’m so glad I got to spend time with the fam, and enjoy the warm Hawaii weather! (I went to the beach a lot too, but of course I don’t have photos from that because I was too busy playing around in the water)

Matsumoto with Hala and Hana!

In January we went to Matsumoto to visit our friends Hala and Hana! They’re sisters from Australia, and we’ve been internet friends for years now. (thank you Sengoku Basara) Hala was doing an exchange program in Matsumoto and Hana came to visit her, and I’m so glad we finally got to hang out all together!

Also you may remember, but Matsumoto is where Mabs lived for a year right after we graduated from college, so I’d been there to visit several times before. It was great to go back again! Matsumoto Castle is so pretty with its big moat.

Valentine’s Day!

For Valentine’s Day, Mabs and I got McDonalds and drew hearts with ketchup, since that’s what we did last year too, LOL. We’re going to make it a tradition. So romantic~ ahaha

I wanted to give Mabs one of those rainbow roses I kept seeing around last summer because they’re pretty and also kind of gay, but the only ones I could find in February were fake ones made out of soap and they were expensive, so I made one myself out of some cardstock, lol.

My birthday!

I had a fun birthday! Of course I wanted to do something different than usual for birthday makeup, but I wasn’t sure what color to go with, so I just used all of them lol.

I liked how it turned out! I’ve been having a lot of fun with the Violet Voss Fruit Sorbet eyeshadow palette that I very spontaneously threw in my shopping basket when I was at Sephora in Hawaii, lol.

After I finished school that day, I went over to Mabs’ place for a birthday dinner. We made ratatouille and then she gave me the cutest cake ever...

A whale shark cheesecake!!

Look at how she decorated it! And the white chocolate fins and tail, and even the little waves on the plate! It was almost too cute to eat, but it was also really delicious cheesecake!

And she got me a whale shark blanket! it’s like a big pocket for your feet, and it’s been so great for keeping my feet warm on chilly winter days! So cute, and a great addition to my growing collection of whale shark stuff!

Even though it was a super busy semester, Mabs and I hung out for at least a little while almost every weekend.

Because we have less money for adventures these days; we’ve been doing more walking and just exploring the areas we can get to on foot. Agi’s visit!

And a few weeks ago, our friend Agi came to visit us for a while, and we did a photoshoot all together! We finally got to check out the cosplay studio here in Osaka, and it’s so awesome! It has a ton of different sets, the tickets are fairly cheap, and it even has a cafe inside so you can order food! (cosplay takes energy so food is important!)

It was so much fun taking photos all together! Mabs and Agi were so perfect as their characters!

And of course, while Agi was here, we took him on the usual Osaka sightseeing tour (Osaka castle, anime shopping in Nipponbashi, Namba/Shinsaibashi, Amemura) plus Fushimi-Inari in Kyoto since Agi loves foxes.

Nagoya!

And then right after Agi left, I went on a 3-day class trip to Nagoya! We worked together with students from a computer school in Nagoya in small groups (4 people per team, with a mix of students from the different schools) to come up with an idea based on a certain theme and make a website or app in just 3 days. Working with the Nagoya students was a little tough, but it was a good experience. Hanging out with my classmates was by far the best part of the trip though! I have some fun photos, but I would need to ask my classmates’ permission before posting them, so instead here’s a photo of Nagoya’s famous miso katsu. (Just what it sounds like; pork katsu with miso sauce)

Their faces are so derpy and hilarious. Of course I had to bring some back for Mabs.

Sakura Season!

And now its cherry blossom season here!

This is my last week of spring break, and I’ve finally had some totally free time! (after spring break started, we had a two-week special course at school, I learned how to pay my taxes in Japan, one of our college friends came to visit, I did an internship at another design company, Agi came to visit, and I went to Nagoya. After all of that I was feeling like I needed a spring break from spring break!) It’s been so good to get back to my hobbies again, and I’ve been going on walks every day and looking at the sakura!

This weekend Mabs and I are going to go on a hanami (flower viewing) date and check out the sakura somewhere here in Osaka. I’m really excited!

Castsize: A Stroll Through Asakusa-bashi with Ino Hiroki.

This time, we walked around Asakusa Bridge, also known as the wholesale district, with Ino Hiroki. However, with Akibahara just around the corner, as our journey steadily went on, shops with the lingering fragrances of the Showa era and new shops where youngsters gather came together in harmony,  creating a fascinating street.

"This is my first time coming to Asakusa. I've been to the next station, Akibahara, to buy electronics and also to the practice venues there but the aura here is completely different."

The first store we visited was a general store that sold christmas decorations and such. While we looked at the displays, I asked about his christmas memories.

"Christmas decorations were always put up when I was a kid. The most memorable present I got was a hamster. I kept saying I wanted to get a pet, but because I lived in an apartment building, I couldn't keep a cat or a dog. However, a hamster was fine. I named it Muu-chan and cared for it a lot."

As he talked about this, he took a stocking and put his foot in, and took pictures happily with the cameraman.

"This is a date, isn't it?"

"Ah, can I try putting this on?"

He looked like he had a lot of fun as he gave suggestions for various poses. By the way, Ino's spirit of service was really enthusiastic. Even the staff with Ino at the photoshoot always had a smile on their face.

We left the shop and continued walking through the street at Asakusa Bridge, relaxed. And then, we saw a cat! When we asked him if he is usually liked by cats and animals, he replied, "I like animals, but they don't like me at all. I'm the type of person who gets barked at by dogs (laughs). Today is a miracle!" He touched the tail of the cat that came up to his side, reluctant to leave as we had to go on with our walk.

"On my regular day offs, I go on walks a lot. I've been busy recently so I haven't been able to do it, but I like going to Yoyogi Park. If I'm feeling good, I'll get a drink or some food and have a stroll in Yoyogi Park. On a clear day like today, I would grab my camera and run out of the house."

Up till the day before the day of this interview, there had been an unseasonal typhoon, but when the morning came, the typhoon had gone, and there wasn't a single cloud in the clear blue sky. With the comfortable sunlight and pleasant temperature, it was a perfect day for a walk.

"Also, on my day offs, I go shopping too. I like clothes, so I'd go to Harajuku to look at clothes, and then maybe go to Yoyogi Park. I've only been able to buy one winter clothing so after the stage, Gifuu Doudou!!, is over, I plan to go shopping for winter clothes as a reward for myself."

Ino plays the main character, Naoe Kanetsugu, in the stage play Gifuu Doudou!!. It's a  manly story written by the manga writer, Hara Tetsuo, of history and generals. How did Ino plan to play this part?

"I've read the original manga before, and Naoe Kanetsugu has a good personality, doesn't he? (stuff about Gifuu Doudou!! and Naoe that I can't understand)

When we started talking about stage plays, his footsteps got lighter and his smile was as brilliant as a child's. Especially when he said "Because I have a lot of senpai~", his footsteps got a little faster, and conveyed how fun it is getting to work with his senpai. In other words, when he acts with male actors he doesn't feel out of place with them.

"Gifuu Doudou!! is about people with intense pressure, and since it's a story from the warring states period, once there is an opening, you're bound to lose. However, for example when he makes eye contact with his opponent and they look away, Naoe Kanetsugu's intensity can be shown. That sort of urgency and tension is essential, as through the brawl, can the masculinity be portrayed."

As we talked, we arrived at Ginnanokayahata Shrine. He spent a quite a long time praying, but after he said that he wished for peace and tranquility for his family. Also, at the shrine, there was another cat, but this one wouldn't let him touch it... a pity.

Starting in February 2018, Ino would be in the stage play Ookiku Furikabutte, as Abe Takaya. I then asked him about this. It is a production about high school baseball, and he would play as the catcher.

"A catcher's form for catching is difficult. During the photoshoot for the visuals, I put on the protective gear for catchers and it was heavier than I expected. I then thought that being a catcher was rough. Putting on and taking off a catcher's mask is also unexpectedly difficult. I have to get used to being able to put it on myself for the actual stage, so I definitely have to practice that."

I asked him what kind of sports he did when he was in high school.

"In middle school, I played handball, and in high school, I played field hockey. That's why I like being active. With the cast members of Engeki Haikyuu, we played futsal, table tennis, and often went to play with everyone. When going to hang out with just boys, getting competitive is fun."

He does many physically active stage plays, and is active in his private life as well. It seems like he did many physically active stage plays in 2017. We asked him what kind of year 2017 has been up till this point, and what kind of year he wants 2018 to be.

"This year, there were many long-run stages, so actually I was not involved in many productions. But I had a lot of time to think carefully about a single thing. In 2016, I was able to do many things, and in 2017 I was able to strengthen the things I learnt. This year I turned 25, and once again I had to become more of a grown up and take that step up. In 2018, I'm hoping I am able to push my limits."

As I listened to him talk about this, we reached our final destination - a cafe to eat hotcakes.

"This is delicious! This hotcake is delicious."

Seeing him eat full of joy made us happy too. And actually, when he was looking at the menu, he kept looking over and asking "What should I get?"

"Is it alright if I get not just the hotcakes, but a cake too?"

Sure, sure, go ahead (laughs).

"I usually like sweet things, so wherever I go, I have to eat dessert."

We were given the chance to have a glimpse of the many sides of ino: the Ino who has a big smile on his face, the Ino that talks about stage plays, and also Ino who stands gallantly on stage. With these many sides of Ino, we were able to understand the charm of Ino Hiroki. We're even more excited to see what Ino Hiroki would do in 2018.

Yesterday on P3R: like three hours in Tartarus, Secret Meetings, and spending more time with Koromaru than anyone else.

I have made it to floor 100! It was like floor 109 by the time I left, but I was very proud. And kind of surprised that there was nothing weird on floor 100. But hey, bringing Koromaru along is reward enough.

Also did a bunch more persona fusions, so I’ve got a new fusion spell. All of my fusion spells so far other than Orpheus’s are Frosts. It’s very silly. XD

He’s so big. XD

Anyway, it’s been like 3 hours, everyone is low on stamina, time to head back and get back into the social link grind.

...are you serious??? We were literally there ALL NIGHT, when did someone wander in???? Ffs. X’D

Oh well. Later. Right now we’re going out for ramen with my rival track bro. Apparently every single restaurant in the mall lets him eat for free.

Dude, seriously, what the heck? Although… I’m getting some vibes that this guy probably doesn’t have a great home situation. So it’s probably a good thing that he’s at least getting regular meals. There really are good people in this city.

Junpei is off hanging out at the mall, and has noticed someone new and interesting! There’s a girl sketching, and she basically brushes him off and tells him to move out of the way when he goes to see how she’s doing.

She wasn’t with Takaya and Jin when they locked us in the military base, so poor Junpei has no way of knowing that this is one of Strega’s members. :/ He has a point about her outfit, though. Even Mitsuru was complaining about how hot it is today.

I arrived home to find Aigis engaged in a stern discussion with Koromaru about how he is not allowed to take himself on walks. Apparently Akihiko was supposed to take him, and has not returned home yet, so because Aigis ALSO can’t go out without supervision yet, it falls to me to take him.

Which is not a hardship at all because he is the bestest boy.

However, on our walk, we ran into Takaya, who is just… openly wandering around without a shirt and carrying a gun even during normal hours. Koromaru doesn’t like him instinctively, but he says he just wants to talk, so we head up to the shrine. He wants information.

It’d be a lot more fair if you’d get your hand off your gun. I know that one is real.

But, he says I can ask him a question first.

Well… they don’t really seem to have some grand goal in mind. And they’re getting in our way because they don’t want us to destroy Tartarus and the Dark Hour. So…

Hahaha, very funn-- Okay, actually, he’s joking, but it would be funnier if it was true and only Minato thought he was shirtless.

Basically, he wants to know why we’re so determined to throw away our powers. He says that if it’s because of the shadows, that’s the wrong way to look at it. He explicitly compares shadows killing people to car accidents. Plenty of people die in car accidents every year, but we’re not trying to destroy cars.

(Which is a half-valid point if you ignore the fact that the Dark Hour only exists because of mad scientists, and also some of those people who die during the Dark Hour are because of Takaya shooting them.)

Not wrong, technically. Like, yeah. You don’t have to help. But you’re also not the sole arbiters of what to do about everything, and your opinion would probably have more weight if you hadn’t already locked us in an underground facility to starve to death.

He does note how special Minato’s power is compared to everyone else. He really doesn’t get why Mina, specifically, would want to give all of that up.

Anyway, he hands off a piece of paper with some info as repayment for helping him out before, and heads out. He really did just want to talk, which is… refreshing. Like, Strega is not a bunch of indiscriminate madmen. We’re still going to be enemies, but they’re not monsters.

Fuck it, I’m going home to brush Koromaru.

He’s soft and shiny~ But we can’t stay here all night, sadly. Time to stop, boy.

The bookstore isn’t ready to rank up yet, so I head out again with Mamoru. I’m learning a lot more about his family situation.

I’m assuming he’s pushing himself so hard because he wants a scholarship. I get the vibe that the family doesn’t have much money. And unfortunately, his father is dead. Which, dude, I’m so sorry. That’s terrib--

…………okay I might be going to hell because I snorted a little bit. It’s just so abrupt. A cliff? Where are there cliffs?? X’’’’D I’m still sorry for your loss but omg.

Having Koromaru in the dorm means you can pet him and shake paws. 10/10, no notes.

And I opted to spend the next day with him, because he likes to chill out front and people-watch.

An old man who used to be friends with the priest came by, and he told us that Koromaru had been taken in by someone else once before, but he always kept going back to the shrine. Now that he’s staying with us, it’s because he’s chosen to be here. We’re his family now.

He makes us promise to take care of each other, and… I can do that. For sure.

I see, thank you for the answer! You are the expert, if only because you are pretty much the only person willing to talk about him in general tags, as opposite to a personal ramblings on one's own blog (as I assume is done by the most, including the yours truly)! It's a walkover, if you so modestly will :D

I just wanted to clarify that I don't find him dishonest (generally speaking, at least), nor manipulative (grief-distorted attempts at well-meaningness, more often than not) and I definitely do not consider his mannerism to be fake (because it is genuine, as nothing ever slips at the rare occasions in which he appears distraught!).

What I meant is rather that theistic religiousness is a faith in The God, while Nyx is an a god. A personification of like, 21th of December 2012, or whatever else. Her cult isn't even a religious cult, it's a doomsday cult! They talk of her as of an event, not a deity.

Anyway, it doesn't ultimately matter so thanks again for the explanation and satisfying my curiosity. And my apologies for keeping you late, haha 💔

(( Haha! Oh, yeah I guess that's true. I just always have tagged my headcanons and junk on and off in the tags, on the rare chance someone out there might care to see someone talk about him, so I'm glad I could offer some opinions you found useful!

Yes, I think I would describe him as... clever and opportunistic. He's charismatic, as Atlus calls him, and he uses that to get a response he wants from people, but he certainly believes what he's doing is right, earnestly so.

But, that isn't quite the right use of that term ( though, sorry if i'm just misunderstanding you ) but monotheism is the faith in a single god, polytheism is the religious belief in many gods, but both are theistic religions. So for example-- shintoism, Japan's major religion, is a polytheistic religion with a focus on nature and generalized spirituality, it has many gods that represent concepts. It most resembles the greek/roman religion of our real life Nyx. You can worship one god(concept) out of those gods and make a shrine specifically to them. In this instance, a shrine to the goddes of darkness. The Nyx Gathering, doomsday cult though it may be, would classify as a religion just as much as say, something like Scient/ology is a religion or doomsday religions throughout history. But they are all real religious beliefs. But a cult/religion-- both interchangeable terms mostly referring to the social acceptability of the belief-- doesn't even necessarily need a traditional deity to be a religion, which is why theistic religions have a separate classification. You can worship concepts, nature, a prophecy, a person, etc, without personifying those things into higher beings.

So I hope that helps too to make sense of why Takaya is seen as pious. But no !! Thank you for even reading all that nonsense I wrote last night tbh lmao ))
