The U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) plans to activate a second opposing aircraft squadron (aggressor) to meet the future air combat training needs of its attack fighter squadrons. The second squadron will provide the East Coast with training resources similar to those on the West Coast.
According to the 2022 Marine Corps Aviation Plan released this week, Marine Fighter Training Squadron 402 (VMFT-402) will be activated in fiscal year 2023 at the Marine Corps Air Station of Beaufort, South Carolina, scheduled to be safe for flight in early 2024.

The USMC has long put the VMFT-401 reserve squadron on the field at MCAS Yuma, Arizona, which flies 11 single-seat Northrop F-5N fighters and one F-5F Tiger II. The squadron is upgrading to 11 F-5N+ aircraft and one F-5F+ aircraft.
The VMFT-402, which will also initially be a reserve squadron, will be equipped with three F-5N+ aircraft, but will eventually operate eight F-5N+ and two F-5F+ aircraft.

To equip the new squadron, the Marine Corps acquired 11 additional F-5 aircraft from the Swiss air force through the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR). The aircraft will be delivered to the USMC for a period of four years from the fourth quarter of 2023.
The Navy and Marine Corps F-5 fleet is undergoing upgrades to increase capacities and extend service life. The fleet is being upgraded with digital cockpits at a rate of two or three aircraft per year. The Naval Air Systems Command plans to integrate the TCTS II Tactical Combat Training System - Increment II (TCTS II) to "allow synthetic injections of opponents to narrow the gap foreseen in adversary training".

"Serving as a training asset for the entire MAGTF, as well as for joint force, the F-5 has seen opponent requirements grow significantly in the last 13 years," according to the aviation plan, largely due to the pilot training requirements of the F-35 VMFA-501 and VMFA-502 fleet replacement squadrons. “The annual requirements of fleet opponents are also expected to increase for squadrons in transition from 12,000 air-to-air missions in [20 fiscal to 17,000 missions per year in order to meet T2.0 requirements in fiscal year 2025.”
The aviation plan said that "the opposing capacity is the biggest problem in the air-to-air training of the Marine Corps, closely followed by the availability and modernization of the range and resources of the training simulator. The VMFT-401 can provide up to 3,300 missions per year, restricted by the use of the aircraft and the number of F-5s assigned. Combining A/A [air-to-air] requirements for fleet training, FRS production [fleet replacement squad] and weapons school support, the USMC creates an opponent requirement of almost 15,000 missions in 2022. Thus, the USMC suffers more from a gap of 11,000 outcomings. Aviation is looking for options to close this gap."

The U.S. military uses commercial air services that fly with former military jets in the role of adversary, but, according to the aviation plan, "commercial air services cannot meet all opponent requirements. The future lies in several solutions that include the efficient use of the F-5s fleet, exploring low-cost training opportunities, incorporating live, virtual, constructive capacity and commercial air services to increase requirements.”

Ok, back to The Child Thieves.
So, I've got the essential story:
When a Witch kidnaps children, the reclusive alchemist James Rathbone and the clingy medium Zephyr Wayne are hired to find them but when the Witch sends her servants to erase everyone's memories, the only way to stop her child sacrifice without a job to back them up will be to finally learn that they work best as a team.
We can illustrate/map this fairly easily via the Karpman Drama Triangle. The default of the Drama Triangle looks like this:

The only difference between this and how you'll usually see this represented is that it is rotated for convenience. The idea behind this is that the Victim, is the patient in a therapeutic environment. They see themselves as helpless, as a victim. They suffer because a persecutor is unfairly mean to them, demanding their suffering. They make it because they connect with the rescuer that helps them out. The rescuer comes and makes it better.
This can also map a story with very few changes.

The Protagonist suffers because they are forced into a state of conflict with the Antagonistic Force, often personified by the Antagonist. The Protagonist and the Antagonistic Force have mutually exclusive goals, neither can get their goal and keep it as long as the relationship prevails. The Plotline is how the Protagonist attempts to overcome the Antagonistic Force to get their goal. The story is over when the Protagonist gets their goal in a way that is meaningfully permanent (comedy) or fails to get their goal in that meaningful way so the lack of it appears permanent (tragedy).
So, for TCT, that's:

There we go, that's TCT in graphic form. James, Zephyr, & JJ try to Rescue the kidnapped Children. If and when they do, the story is over. Anything that doesn't relate to that, doesn't belong in an action scene. The story will test them working as a team. If they can change themselves to work that way, they're rewarded with the kids. If they can't, they're punished with tragic results for themselves and the kids.
The conflict both keeping them from unifying and also demanding that they do so is that the Witch has powers to hide her crimes and moves, so they have to figure out how to solve the mystery when the Witch can erase the clues.
The conflict is one of the places where I feel I failed last time. That mystery. It just wasn't enough of mystery. So, I want to use some other tricks to work with that.
I unfortunately didn't manage my time well today, so not right now.

Is Levi Jung Ruivivar extremely injury prone? I swear I’ve heard about her for so many years but it feels like she hasn’t competed that much lol. Also I’m a bit worried about her moving to TCTs… She has such a lovely toe point and form but the girls at TCTs always have questionable form and flexed feet… I don’t really know how it works but if she already has the foundations and basics her form shouldn’t really deteriorate right?
I just feel like a) not a ton of meets have happened in the last couple years due to The Pestilence and b) the domestic junior competitions that HAVE happened this quad were essentially purchased by Flo so literally nobody has seen them lol
I just looked it up and she apparently won bronze AA at trials for Junior Pan Ams but didn’t go..? Maybe she withdrew due to injury idk. In that case maybe she is indeed injury prone.
I’m also not an expert but based on what I know about ballet firsthand the basics are something that needs constant attention just for maintenance so it is very possible that some of her fundamentals could suffer but you’d have to ask a gymnast or more specifically a gymnastics coach 🤷‍♀️

Adam gripped the chain tight, eyes on the rock pool below him. The chain clinked as it slipped into the water, the lower links dredged with green seaweed. The water was black, only lapping weakly against the edges. He shut his eyes, thinking back to his own Awakening. Remembering how he stepped onto the platform, locked into his iron cage, lowered down by this same chain into the pool, into the dark water until daylight was something unreachable.
The Awakening was one of those moments he could still see in his mind’s eye so clearly. Possibly because it was the moment his abilities were revealed to him; it was the moment the energy within him was unleashed. His first step to becoming a dragon. 
Perhaps it was because the whole process brought him to a higher plane of existence, of awareness. As he had let the water carry him, let him float, he’d almost started to feel that he was flying instead. But that feeling was dangerous. Too long in the water, and he would have drowned. If he didn’t manage to let go and open himself up to the dragons’ spirit, there was no way out. Some poor souls suffered that fate. It was their first test of character.
 When the icy water turned to fire, when it bubbled and thrashed but he remained unmovable, untouchable - he knew then that he was not the man he’d been before.

Trans Catalina Trail

 I am convinced that every additional ounce in one’s backpack results in bruises, blisters, aches and pains on a logarithmic scale. In preparation for our Trans Catalina Trail (tct) trip—a last minute change due to smoke in the Sierras, I even weighed my underwear to select the lightest. As for a tent, it had to be feather weight, so I ordered a bivvy, a flimsy nylon sarcophagus providing a mere two inches of room to the sides and four inches above my sleeping bagged body, but weighing only 1.5 lbs. Sadly REI has not yet figured out how to make water lighter.
Shortly after the ferry left San Pedro harbor, where we’d been mesmerized watching containers being unloaded and loaded on cargo ships like an automated unstoppable lego building exercise, the intimidating profile of Catalina came clearly into view. I wondered if there was any chance a quick gust of accelerated erosion might lower the steep mountains a few hundred feet before we docked.  
We three are in our sixties, arguably too old for an adventure involving backpacks, five nights camping, and hiking over thirty miles from one end of the island to the other. We’ve known each other since our kids were in preschool and we’ve hiked in our local SM mountains over the years, but this was the first time we’d carried backpacks and camped together, the first time we’d shared dehydrated dinners, band-aids, toilet paper, and sporks. To add to the absurdity, we thought it would be a lark to wear pearl (fake) necklaces. Why not?
We walked along the coast from Two Harbors the first overcast morning and after several miles found a deserted private club where three Adirondack chairs invited us to stop and take our boots off and gaze at the yacht-dotted sea. A swim in the clear water of Emerald Bay refreshed us sufficiently for the long walk back to the campground and along the way, a bald eagle soared over the inlets. It was a sweet warm-up to our trek. That night, after Fish and Chips at the only restaurant, I wormed into my sleeping bag and bivvy. Through the fly net, I studied the starry night sky and fell asleep to the monotonous rhythm of breaking waves.  
The trail, the next day, took us inland up a mountain (1500’) and down again to Little Harbor on the other side of the island. It was tough and slow-going. We arrived early enough to relish the pretty coves, the campground shaded by Canary Palms, to swim along the rocky point, to paint, and wash clothes, all while keeping a close eye on a lone bison, apparently a permanent camp resident. He seemed most at home in our campsite and slept soundly under a tree not far from us that night.
From Little Harbor to the next campground, Black Jack, was hard work. The trail climbed steadily up to the middle of the island, and from the moment the sun rose, it was hot. Among the chaparral’s dry grass, browned shrubs and prickly pear, the few trees seemed defeated by the drought, leaves shriveled, few in number, and coated in dust. We stopped regularly to drink water, adjust our backpacks, soak up the panoramic views and to watch a herd of bison grazing. The promise of lunch at the small airport cafeteria motivated us to keep going. Suffering a little from heat exhaustion plus a good amount of regular exhaustion, we stayed at the airport long after our lunch, waiting for the air conditioner to revive us and for the heat of the day to pass before we continued. The last two miles to Black Jack, although tiring, was quite lovely with more diversity in the vegetation and more interesting topography. At this campground, the only one accessible exclusively to backpackers, we got a true sense of how many people hike the TCT. Not many. I could count the tents on one hand. I don’t know my astronomy but the night sky was beautiful and three planets stood out among the stars, dimmed only when the moon rose. Getting in and out of the bivvy is difficult at the best of times, but when leg cramp woke me up later that night, it was a slow, painful, and complicated effort to extract myself from the double confines of sleeping bag and tiny tent. A little later, after I’d wriggled my way back in, several bison walked through the moonlit campground, and I heard one snorting and huffing nearby. The only reason I slept is because I imagined they had to be ground squirrels or foxes, looking for scraps.
We left early the next day for the longest leg of the trail, 11 miles, to Hermit Gulch campground a mile outside Avalon, the main town on the island and our terminus. It was long and hot, long and hard, long and dusty, long and steep. At times the trail ran alongside a dirt road with traffic, at times it deviated, and other times it overlapped with the road, not the wilderness experience we longed for. There were trucks carrying cement, trucks servicing the cell phone towers and other infrastructure, and there were “safari” jeeps carrying tourists across the island, presumably to see the bison and beaches. Evidently we were unusual specimens to be pointed out too. One jeep stopped on the roadside and we heard the driver who was pointing at us, talking over the microphone to his safari customers mentioning words like “backpack” and “camp” and  “35 miles”. I decided, like any wild animal under observation, to speed up and make myself scarce.
It was a relief to finally reach Hermit Gulch campground, to rest, eat and shower. Foxes and deer visited as the sun went down. However a few hours later when we were ready to sleep (at eight pm), other campers were warming up with vodka and drugs for loud partying which went on long after midnight. I’d like nothing more than to erase this night from the adventure so that it doesn’t leave a sour taste. Next time I’d avoid this stop; I’d continue all the way to Avalon directly and take the evening ferry home, dirt and all.
Will I do this again, I kept asking myself? Apart from a level of fitness and a tolerance for dirt and discomfort, backpacking requires organized discipline and a good memory for all the storage details. A bottle of water must be within easy reach at all times, sunblock has to be reapplied throughout the day, blisters attended to, a tent rolled up wet from morning dew has to be dried out later in the day. I’m not so worried that my legs will be the reason I stop backpacking, or my back; it’s more likely to be my memory. What happened to my chap-stick? Who has the map? Which pouch did I put the granola bar in? Where did I put the car keys? Sad to say, I lost the pearls. They were probably left at one of the campgrounds and whoever camps there next must be mystified. I also lost the matches, necessary to start the stove - fortunately my fellow camper had a lighter. And a toenail is still tender and dark red suggesting that I will be losing that too before long.
But yes, it was worth it. There is satisfaction in taking any inviting path from beginning to end, and a feeling of accomplishment in following a ridge to stand atop a mountain from where horizons are widest. There is the delight of swimming in and out of clumps of healthy kelp after being overheated and dusty. It’s lovely to get to know friends even better, and it’s pure euphoria when it’s all over and the boots come off.

Phuket to offer 'ONE-NIGHT for ONE-DOLLAR incentive

A new campaign called One-Night for One-Dollar has been proposed by the Tourism Council of Thailand (TCT) to attract international tourists back to Phuket, ahead of the popular resort island’s planned July reopening.
Under the plan, participating operators will offer to foreign tourists room rates at US$1 per night – for rooms that typically sell for between 1,000 baht (US$32) and 3,000 baht per night – with costs to be subsidised by the government, explained TCT president Chamnan Srisawat. If the proposal is green-lit, tourism players in Thailand will roll out the campaign to international markets. “TCT also discussed the idea with major wholesalers and online travel agents to prepare for the reopening of Phuket. And they are ready to help,” Chamnan said. He expects that out of a total of 70,000 rooms on the island, nearly one million room nights would be up for sales, generating at least 40 billion baht into hotels and other services throughout July. TCT’s proposal has been submitted to the Tourism Authority of Thailand and the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, and will be escalated to the cabinet for approval within June. If Phuket’s One-night, one-dollar campaign proves successful, private sector players and the government may expand the campaign to other destinations such as Koh Samui, Pattaya and Bangkok. “However, the current wave of Covid-19 infection could (impact the) final decision. But we have been suffering from the pandemic for 15 months now. Only mass tourism will save us,” Chamnan said.
