Gabriels Wharf is named after Christopher Gabriel and his sons. He was a woodworking plane maker from the 1770’s. It was his son’s who changed the business to a successful timber importing company and his grandson Thomas became Lord Mayor of London. The wharf closed in 1919 and is now full of craft shops, bars and restaurants. Great place to stop to refuel on a sunny day on the South Bank.
