What are the yandere tropes you hate?

I don't really hate any trope-- this is just for fun ^^

I've got a thing for yanderes, obviously. And like most of us, I like to fantasize about how I would survive being kidnapped or backed into a corner by an intricate social dance we torture each other with. But there are some yandere's that I just couldn't see myself having any fun with... I can work with a manipulative sadist that slowly corners me with social convention and etiquette. I can work with a wild dog that just wants to have fun with me, and bites when people get too close (including me).

But I wouldn't be able to grin and bare a poseur trope, or the bully trope.

Poseur trope.

I don't think it actually has a name, but it should. Poseur yanderes would be defined as that trope where an obsessive fan, or spurned possessive ex-- or whatever motivation you can give to a yandere-- kidnaps someone they don't actually love, but happens to look like the real object of affection.

In my opinion, it'd be even worse than that trope of yanderes that only fall for their darlings looks but eventually warm up to their personality, because this trope would actively forbid anything that breaks the illusion... You'd never be loved, in any capacity. You're a glorified cosplayer.

Bully trope.

I doubt you need the clarification on what this trope is, but lemme just say this clear: they can punch me, kick me, stab me, trip me, bite me, pull my hair, burn me, and carve out chunks of muscle with whatever tool they want. But if they do so while claiming to own me, as if I am some ragdoll you don't have to appreciate or charm because I have less power, they'll end up smothered to death in their sleep. I don't even have to be kidnapped-- I will break into their room myself to do it.

The idea that a bully would just humiliate their darling publicly, then beat them in private, without a display of affection or grand gesture in sight, and the darling is still into that fucking baffles me. It's OBVIOUSLY someone's yum, so I'm not gonna yuck it too much... But I'm just saying: could never be me. If my yandere said too many hurtful things with no grand gesture to balance it out, I'll take matters into my own hands and kill them. You may cut off my leg, but there better DAMN well be some praise and worship there! Like hell I'm worshipping YOU, skippy!

I'll just throw in the reverse-worship trope while I'm here. The idea that I'll be kidnapped, or trapped by social convention but legally speaking totally free to leave, with someone who demands I worship them, and only sees me as a tool that boosts their ego. All their manipulation and threats are only used when it seems like someone else has your attention; they get jealous and demand you repent. They don't even bother to threaten or remove whatever else took your attention-- the fault is entirely yours for getting distracted, so you're the one they'll whinge to until they get what they want. And of course, you don't deserve any praise. They're the impressive one. You're just allowed to worship them.

Listen. Listen. It's a good trope. Lots of angst potential. Dare I say, even comedy potential (like the prince and Mu-Deok from Alchemy of Souls).

But...

There can be one attention whore here. And it will not be them!!!!!

If either of us is going to be a melodramatic diva, it's not going to be them!!! I got KIDNAPPED for THIS? I get beaten until I relent, possibly over the course of months to years, and finally submit to you, and I am repaid... With nothing? No praise? No worship? Not mutual? Hmm? I see. Well. That's a shame. No love for you. Only resentment. And a resentful partner in a relationship that's established violence as an acceptable method of dealing with problems is going to end up with someone dying.

Historical fashion is a very big amorphous topic so take all of my recommendations with their usual grain of salt and keep in mind that the most important of things are primary sources and authorial context. For example: the portrait of a Queen is generally going to be the beautified propaganda version of the day, but still a primary-ish source of her fashion. Channel your inner historian and examine your sources critically. Who recorded this history? Why?

Photographs are stellar. While there were “photoshop” tricks those usually don’t change the clothing. Extant garments? Bog bodies? Gold mines. So never be afraid to dig into clothing that has been preserved or displayed.

I guess what I’m trying to say is that what kind of fashion and when it happened is going to set the parameters for the majority of your research. It’s too big a topic to have an easy answer, tragic I know. However there are communities upon communities online that specialize in certain historical moments, countries, styles, art, etc, etc, etc.

If you want a really great general overview by decade of Western/European fashion I recommend the website Fashion History Timeline. They don’t have a lot in their Medieval or ancient sections but 14th century to 21st century is a LOT of ground to cover while still being an easy to navigate website.

If you want even more Renaissance to vintage clothing research to the point where you could make or purchase those items yourself there is American Duchess.

And finally, honestly, someone has probably made a YouTube video about it. Double check their research and sources but if you want a plain speech audible research paper with visual aides… it’s kind of the place to be. University lecturers have slide videos up about fashion, the historical “cosplayers” do a ton of research and trial and error construction, history buffs will tell you all about it. There are so many talented people out there, from ‘Not Your Momma’s History’, ‘Off the Great Wall’, ‘Mochi Hanfu’, ‘Dandy Wellington’, ‘Bernadette Banner’, ‘Priorattire’, ‘Pinsent Tailoring’, Mina Le and so so so many more!

juno would absolutely eagerly help him fill out his bug collection with some sinnoh bug-types that alola doesn't have !! (i need to make a list of bug-types that each region has tbh...) they'd gift him some they had in their storage box, and then help him catch any others when they go to sinnoh together :D

ooh okay i have thought abt this third question a bit fdsjkl it's so fun thinking abt the different personalities of their pkmn :3

golisopod puts on a tough act for like. a day at most. and then immediately crumbles and is actually just a big ol' softie so he warms up to juno pretty much immediately fdsjkl. ariados doesn't like juno very much just because juno's a little afraid of him dsgjkl but eventually the two of them come to some sort of mutual understanding where they get along in a vaguely strained manner (guzma never rly understands why the two of them don't get along well and tries to facilitate some bonding moments that go disastrously sideways somehow every time LMAO). scizor is kind of stand-offish and unsure about juno but once juno hangs around for a while and he sees more of them, then he accepts them as one of the squad! pinsir is a little mean (he's just mischievous tbh) and likes messing with juno but they eventually catch onto his pranks and antics, and turns it back on him one day and that earns his respect LMAO. masquerain is just happy that there's more people in the house and gets along really well with Greer to everyone's surprise, so he's a happy camper :] (at some point i want to create a proper team list for guz and maybe come up w names for them hehe)

Henry is a shy but proud lil guy and doesn't really trust Guz at first but trusts Juno's judgement so he warms up to the big boss man soon enough (plus Guz works hard to get on Henry's good side considering Henry never goes into a pokeball so he's around almost all the time LOL). Greer HATES Guz at first 😭 it takes her a long time to tolerate him - she finally starts turning around on her opinion of him when he helps Juno through a flashback/panic attack that she couldn't calm them down from on her own. Huey is super chill, so there's no issues there fdsjkl, I think he'd get along especially well with the grunts tbh LOL they'd probably try giving him a painkiller one day just to see what would happen and he'd be forever indebted to them (Juno finds out later and loses their mind because painkillers aren't made for pokemon and they have to rush him to a pokecenter to get him checked over JFDSKL). and Grimsby loves everyone, if you give him any bit of attention he'll love you forever, so Guzma gets on his good side pretty much right off the bat :3

hi, i’m just curious.. is it possible for personal tarot readings to just not click? like it wouldn’t resonate with the receiver?

this isn’t specifically about you lol, i just follow you and know you do tarot readings. so i’m just wondering your perspective on this.

like say the reader does a reading on you, but they describe you in such a way that is like “i don’t think i’d ever be like this” or “this isn’t me?” or maybe, “my goals don’t align with this”

and it’s not like you wanted to divert the message or not accept it, but more like: ‘you tried to accept it initially but the more you thought about it, the more wrong it felt’?

personally, i’ve always found that how your body reacts is a huge sign, like if your gut and intuition is telling you something’s wrong, or the reading just isn’t for you. it probably isn’t. after all, ‘you know yourself better than anyone else.’

i also do think that some readers’ energy just don’t mesh well with some people.

i’m curious on your perspective though! so if you want, feel free to answer.

Hi anon! Absolutely possible, the thing with energy is that it always needs a receiver, I like to best explain this with a string, imagine holding a string and waving it, the person who’s holding the other end will receive the wave but in a smaller form, this is due to the kinetic energy that flows through the string. Now imagine you’re at some distance, the further away you are, the smaller the wave is going to get, so for your case it could be distance that has affected the reading, it may have been hard for them to connect to your energy due to how far away you guys are physically.

On the other end using the same string theory, we can say that maybe you’re not supposed to know the answer to your question, that way the energy isn’t as persistent and strong when trying to ask for this information and receive it, the wave you gave may have been small, and theirs could’ve come back even smaller. The universe has very diverse ways of stopping us from receiving answers.

Sometimes a readers energy doesn’t fit with your own very well, and they may not have been the person you were “meant” to receive the answer from, and other times they could’ve interpreted the message incorrectly. An example was a lovely reader took the time to give me a reading about my future marriage, I already know my future spouse so I was excited to know how this would plan out, however they said that we would most certainly get divorced. Now obviously I wasn’t happy to take that message, but tarot isn’t always fun and dandy so I tried to sit on it, eventually I caved in and asked one of my tarot friends to do me a reading on it, there we found out that the cards were just slightly misinterpreted due to some inner conflict.

A reading doesn’t always have to resonate, however timing is dicey, you may find that you do become what they say you will, even when you least expected it, however time changes due to our free will, so really anything can happen.

I wouldn’t recommend getting mad or upset at yourself for not resonating with a reading though, sometimes it just doesn’t match or you don’t have the connection with your reader which would be recommended.

I’ve had a couple of people tell me they don’t resonate with my readings, and honestly that’s ok! It’s always due to something outside of us, either the tarot readers energy was messy, or even yours, perhaps your guides are hiding the answer, or you’re refusing to take it. There’s always a reason, but sometimes it’s not your job to figure out what it is.

How would you break down the alters' personalities?

Oooooh this is a really fun ask to receive! Thank you so much for sending it to me! :D I feel like I need to preface this though that the way each of the alters' personalities (and to a certain extent, their dynamic within the system) is presented fluctuates a bit with individual writers and mediums. Like, currently, I am wrestling with myself over how best to respond to this ask, because there's the part of me that wants to give the most direct possible answer to your question (how /I/ specifically might parse out the alters) and then there's the part of me that wants to take any opportunity I can to discuss the varying ways the guys have been portrayed across the whole expanse of Moon Knight comics. 😅 So I very well might do both???? For now though, I'll stick with the former because,,,,the latter will take considerably more time than I have at this very moment; however, please just let me know if I misinterpreted your ask as I would be MORE than happy to eventually produce something that's a bit more,,,,historical, if you will. Personal Feelings, Sir aka fair warning, this is entirely just my opinion and I tend to pull a lot from the first volume (but with all of the improvements made by later volumes), so please take the ramblings under the cut with a grain of salt.

MARC

Marc is....over all not a very happy man. He's incredibly tactically proficient with an infantryman's razor sharp sardonic wit and if you share a common goal, he's a great ally to have by your side, but...he's seen things that weigh on a soul and done things he's not proud of and you can tell. Like, there's just a certain intensity and hyperawareness that some combat veterans get that you can see in their eyes and I definitely feel like that comes through with Marc. Kinda taciturn, one might even say at times "brusque" (but he might argue "efficient/economical/laconic"), but there are those he genuinely cares for and he's not without a sense of humor. The issue is that he's definitely aware of his own lethal capability and views it not just as a learned skill but as an integral part of who he is, that "there was never anything kind or gentle about [him]" (Moon Knight vol. 9/2021, #5). Oh, and he's got issues with authority as well as an independent streak that could span the Chicago River that have from his time spent in his father's house to the Marine Corps to his mercenary days burned many bridges, so between that and the very real crimes against humanity he's committed, homeboy's got a lot weighing on him. But he's trying his best to be better from here on out and his degree of faith in whether or not he can actually be better may change with the day but he tries nonetheless, making all the difference.

STEVEN

You ever seen, like, a leopard seal hunting? That's how efficiently Steven navigates high society. He has a perfect handle on old money manners and old money charms and knows exactly how to utilize them. I wouldn't say he's "tactical" with the same connotation of martial violence of action that hangs over Marc, but he's definitely analytical. Highly analytical. I want to make it clear that none of the alters are by any stretch of the imagination dumb, but just by the nature of character dynamics, Steven always ends up the Superego even when Marc and Jake take turns being the Id. Whereas Jake is jovial and street smart and Marc was a CIA operative for a reason (even if his heavy guilt and, if you will, angst can still on occasion sneak up on him and take him out), Steven is the numbers guy. He's the one that takes care of the business end of things and sometimes that means being the level-headed one of the bunch as well. Now, I don't want to make Steven sound like a cold fish (or worse, a bit too much of a shark). I would be remiss if I didn't mention that sometimes, particularly in earlier issues, he can come across as a bit of a dandy, perfectly happy enjoying the finer things in life. More importantly, "the finer things in life" include friends and just genuinely positive relationships. He may have a perfectly crafted persona for society functions that includes a very convincing fake laugh, but he's also far more open to loving and being loved than Marc with all of his hang ups could ever possibly be.

JAKE

When Mr. MacKay described Jake as "avuncular" (Moon Knight vol. 9/2021, #14) and a piratical "rascal" (Moon Knight vol. 9/2021, #15) that took me the heck out because, YEAH! While Steven's the perfect party guest, Jake is the life of the party. He's a force of nature and a bit of a whirlwind, the kind of cabbie that can comfortably (both for you and for him) talk your ear off for the entire fare with the thickest Chicagoan accent you've ever had the privilege of hearing. He's a steadfast and steadying support to those he calls friends (of which he has many since he has a tendency to make them where ever he goes), but he's not above settling a matter with his fists if the situation calls for it. He's nothing if not scrappy after all, because hey, the streets of New York where he spends most of his time aren't exactly easy. Similarly, he's also, I don't want to say "a gossip" per say, but he picks up gossip and other bits of intel like a lint trap. He has a wide net of connections, and don't get me wrong, he loves people dearly, but he's very keen when it comes to knowing exactly which people to tap if he needs a certain line of information. He's honest and lovable and an absolute rogue that makes it very hard to remain mad at him, no matter what mischief he might get into.

Do you mind if I ask your top 10 favorite characters (can be male or female) from all of the media that you loved (can be anime/manga, books, movies or tv series)? And why do you love them? Sorry if you've answered this question before.....Thanks....

This is a difficult one! I've loved a LOT of characters over the years even if the current blorbo of interest is NHS from MDZS/CQL bc he's just such a fun little guy BUT lets see if I can try to do this chronologically and not in like, any character ranking fashion:

1 & 2: these two characters are absolutely the rulers of my heart: Huang Rong and her father, Huang Yaoshi from Legend of the Condor Heroes by Jin Yong. I just love my beloved spoiled conwoman princess and her insane evil wuxia version Maes Hughes dad so much. I could write so many essays about the Huangs and how they mean so much to each other and also to me. I'm always insane about family members who have complex relationships with each other and that's super evident with them.

3. Uchiha Madara from Naruto. Now, people who have known me for a long time know that I am a Naruto girlie, and that I skipped all the way to "Sasuke's Insane and Sad Pathetic Ancestor" on the character likes list. I love insane murder men and Madara is an insane murder man! He's also very sad. What's there not to like about him truly.

4. Mirasol from Chalice by Robin McKinley. I have a deep love for beauty and the beast narratives and this one ALSO had magic bees. I love Mirasol for her kindness and her devotion even in the wake of massive change and I have a special fondness for the entire story of Chalice both for the lovely worldbuilding and also Mirasol herself.

5&6. Sansa Stark and Cersei Lannister from A Song of Ice and Fire. I really really love both of these characters for entirely opposing but also really similar reasons! I love them for their flaws. For being stuck in their positions in a world that's really just! not! kind to them! and how they take that and go in such different directions.

7. Sheng Rulan from The Story of Minglan. I have such a soft spot for Rulan. She's petty, she's spoiled, she has so much love and holds onto her principles and her dreams so tightly, she's her father's least favorite child despite also being a legitimate daughter, she finds love, she's so cute, she's the clearest sighted of all four of the Sheng sisters, she's got such a growth arc to her, I love her SO SO MUCH. (I love all three of her sisters too don't get me wrong, Rulan is just my favorite.)

8. Wei Yingluo from The Story of Yanxi Palace. Yingluo! My girl! Never have I ever seen a female lead with so much pent up rage and desire to get even in a story that does not judge her for her hard edges and her propensity for violence. I love that about her. I love how kindness and cruelty and how her quest for vengeance never destroys her ability to love and care for others and recognize other people's genuine kindness and the difficulties other people face in life. I love her shrewdness and her determination to survive too! I'm just! So fond of her!

9. Jaskier from The Witcher (TV). I RARELY TALK ABOUT. MY UNAGING BARD BLORBO. BUT I LOVE HIM. I love the messy relationship Jaskier, Geralt and Yennefer have in the Witcher TV show and I REALLY love the way that Jaskier is portrayed. I don't know anything about the games but! I just! I love! Beloved for being SO jiggly and full of trauma and his tragedy is writ large to me because it! powers! the plot! without his tragedy there is no plot! he burns down his social circle because he loves his brother! There's just so much in here that's like, oh god. I love that he's an annoying foppish dandy and that he loves his pets and creature comforts and that he doesn't enjoy working hard and has so many problems. This too is life. I love this little guy I want to rotate him for a good long time.

There might have been a meaningful conversation the first time around, a simple question evolving into a monstrous monologue about Ivan the Terrible and his sexual rituals

Rimmer had expected you to join Lister and run away from his rambling, yet, you were still there, listening, jolly-eyed, your chin rested up in your palm, a concentrated look on your face

He stuttered when he noticed, and his face got red with a mix of anger, at himself as he was under the impression he humiliated himself, and with embarrassment itself, and completely stopped with his storytelling

"Hey, why'd you stop? It was getting interesting."

He blinked at you a few times before he came up with an answer, "T-The... The boiler room! The boiler room isn't going to clean itself!" 

And with that, he stormed out of the room

Yet the boiler room was not, in fact, cleaned that day

He thought that was it, that you were not going to listen to his stories ever again

It would probably be for the better, you wouldn't get bored by him so soon at least

But that wasn't the case

Whenever he was talking, you seemed to be there, paying attention, hanging on his every word, even encouraging him to continue some of the thoughts Lister had cut short

Whatever it may be that he is talking about at the moment – you are there, and you are listening to him, actually listening!

He doesn't get it

He's genuinely flabbergasted, bamboozled, and for the longest time he just assumes you're there just to have something to laugh at with Lister behind his back

You're going to spend a lot of time assuring him that that's not the case

If he ever brings it up, that is

He feels funky whenever you look at him, or talk to him, butterflies in his stomach kind of funky

The same funky when his mother acknowledged his existence

He always thought he would get used to it, used to you and your presence, especially after you got closer, after you became a pair

But he never did

Whenever you were around, you made him mushy, soft and warm

He didn't know whether he hated it, or loved it, fighting a battle within himself

But that wasn't the only battle raging inside him

The constant doubting of his emotions, his decisions, his intellect...

Sometimes it got too strong to hide

Thank you so much for the previous answer! I also have another question regarding hbo Rome, do you think that Cassius was gay-coded in the show? From the way he looks and talks about Brutus and even the fact that Porcia doesn't even exist in the series. Throughout the show it seems that Cassius has feelings for Brutus but Brutus doesn't quite reciprocate his feelings. Also a small detail but i remember reading some time ago that yellowish-green clothing was considered "gay" in ancient Rome so that explains something lol

so cassius in hbo rome exists almost exclusively by extension of brutus: cassius is more or less always in a scene with brutus. cassius' first introduction is within brutus' house, and that carries until the end, so it’s through brutus that I’m saying ‘hell yeah.’

I am so sorry in advance for how long this is going to get, because I’m a Themes™ guy so I gotta talk about what themes I’m latching on to that informs my answer, and because cassius isn’t actually a pov character for hbo rome, I’m going to break down brutus a little bit and hopefully this will be....coherent........RIP

anyway, with cassius specifically, I think you can pretty reliably read him as queer coded in some way in literally any adaption or retelling by virtue of how historical accounts translate over into narrative themes. honestly, you can fit a whole discussion on gender into cassius. (I’ve done it, it’s very fun! he has the range)

with hbo rome, tho, I think it's more of a case that: because brutus can be read as queer coded, you can then infer that cassius is as well. for me, it's not so much that brutus doesn't reciprocate the cassius' feelings towards him, it’s that it takes him awhile for his character arc to let him get to a point where he can, because cassius’ feeling towards brutus are consistent throughout the narrative (alternatively, reciprocation is where where they can finally work in tandem WITH each other, instead of towards each other)

cassius obviously cares for brutus, they bicker and banter like friends, but more importantly, cassius gives brutus a level of autonomy that he's been stripped of. after the fall out between brutus and servilia, cassius engages the conspiracy with brutus head on. the manipulation is there, but brutus is given the choice as it happens instead of finding out that he's been used after the fact. cassius does not use brutus’ name without first trying to find out whether or not brutus would allow it. (an interesting bit for that scene, with the betrayal of servilia, is that brutus has no real problem speaking with hostility towards people he deems worth of that hostility, as seen with quintus, and he does not speak to cassius that way, and instead pulls himself together for a moment to greet him)

this ties into porcia, actually! because porcia (and also brutus' sisters) are not in hbo rome, it creates an interesting vaccum that's filled with a neat parallel: brutus has a lot of common with octavia. servilia and atia both treat their respective children in a similar manner, in manipulating and using them for their own agendas, and even in how they lash out at them. it also means that the closest non familial relationship brutus has is with cassius, and because tertulla is not in hbo rome, they aren’t even in-laws. their closeness in this narrative is entirely their own, and the absence of their respective marriages is pretty compelling.

alright, so the queer coding of brutus exists on a couple of levels, we already got some of the interesting gender stuff regarding his paralleling with octavia out of the way, but we can keep going with it because the costuming for brutus informs his narrative treatment.

personally I think the color of clothing is better suited for a discussion on antony, but the length of clothing is one that fits brutus

masculinity, appearance, sexuality: dandies in roman antiquity, k. olson

brutus is almost always covered up at all times, in every scene, except for the military scenes, and also in that symbolic re birth in the river. (there’s also that scene with caesar, where brutus drops the ‘only tyrants have to worry about tyrant killers,’ line, and it’s a striking character moment)

alright, back to the military, we have two events for comparison with the military: pompey, where brutus is decidedly not enjoying his time there, and then cassius.

I swear this is all coming together.

so cassius is a fixed point for brutus, but also the catalyst for dynamic change in brutus’ character. it’s through cassius that brutus engages in the assassination of caesar, it’s through cassius that brutus gets sober, it’s through cassius that brutus decides he wants to be reborn (disco elysium voice; I dont want to be this kind of animal anymore), it’s largely through cassius that brutus becomes an independent character instead of a passive player in someone else’s plans. brutus leaves rome a few times, but he’s only ever seen happy (and sober) with cassius, in macedonia.

there’s also that whole scene with antony and brutus that’s very 👀 and you can make a pretty compelling case for brutus-cassius, antony-cleopatra parallels, since hbo rome has antony and cleopatra die together, like brutus and cassius, despite the historical fact that there was time between deaths for both pairs. there’s something else to be said about how hbo rome allows for grief between lovers, cleopatra gets her moment with antony, brutus gets his moment with cassius. (other characters are afforded this moment too, but I’m sticking with the cleopatra-antony similarities because, like brutus with cassius, cleopatra follows antony)

so the tldr of it is: yes, I think cassius could be read that way, because brutus’ character arc lends itself to confirmation of that interpretation. cassius’ feelings and treatment of brutus throughout brutus’ character arc are indicative of someone who cares deeply, and brutus’ character growth being connected to (and in the direction of cassius) reads like reciprocation of those feelings.

For Peyrolles, I already answered here, but since it's not too spicy, I'll copy-paste that one as well:

Ok, so as of the timeline of the story, Peyrolles chooses to present in a masculine way, both for practicality and status. But with the underwear... That's where they can have a little bit of fun and express a little more of their feminine side.

They do wear a man's shirt and stockings to accommodate the masculine attire they usually wear, but they also wear stays under their waistcoat. They like them to be extra pretty, usually with a floral pattern on them. They like the look of them and the silhouette it gives them.

Aurore wears all the usual layers of feminine undergarments from the time period: linen shifts, petticoats, and stays. They are very simple with little to no decoration as she prefers her undergarment to be practical before anything else (and doesn't really understand the purpose of making something no one will see pretty).

Nevers is very much of the same mindset, not that men's undergarments are particularly ornate to begin with. He wears a fairly simple linen shirt (that he rarely bothers to tie all the way up, as you may have noticed) and stockings and always goes without drawers (which is pretty normal for the time period, as I understand it, the shirt being long enough and cut as to fill that role).

Chartres wears the finest linen shirts and likes them quite ornate, with a lot of ruffles and billowing sleeves. While not really necessary, he likes to add silk ribbons as garters for his stockings, under his breeches. He'll only wear linen drawers when it's really cold. I wouldn't say his underwear are impractical by any mean, but he takes a lot of care into making them look just right. His will be seen after all.

And I'll put the bonus question under a cut so it doesn't get too long lol.

What would their fashion preferences be in a modern setting?

Peyrolles: Goth, undoubtedly, with lots of buckles and leather straps.

Aurore: She would have a sharp, both modern and classic wardrobe, very minimalistic and monochromatic, I think.

Nevers: Would have a colorful, relaxed dandy style, with neat but disheveled three-piece suits.

Chartres: I feel like he would follow fashion trends quite closely so it'd probably change regularly. But generally, I think he would go for loud and revealing outfits, layered translucent and mesh fabrics, cropped cuts... But a lot of thought and artistry would go into his style too.

gothic au: besides the main pair, tell us about a character you are excited to write!

Hello, hi, thank you so much for the question! I'm SO KEEN to talk about everything, you've got no idea. The answer may not be what you expect at all...

I'm actually very excited to write Aimeric. Within the frame of a gothic horror, he will be cast in a Renfield-inspired role: devoted to a more powerful figure, believing he will be afforded a reward for the atrocities he commits, manipulative in his own right, but in effect a victim as well. Awfully similar to canon, isn't it?

I've written some Aimeric already, and it was incredibly enjoyable for me. In a late-19th Century-inspired setting, it was also fun to think of him as this young, fashionable dandy.

Fitting the characters into gothic archetypes was actually incredibly easy---very little adjustment required.

28. Who is the most delightful character you’ve ever written? Why?

HMMMM. I really love writing WWX, he's a lot of fun, especially with his brand of feeling undeserving of affection and One Brain Cell (tm) when it comes to matters of the heart. That's always fun to play around with. Also one of my current project's MCs, who's a spoiled rich dandy and how he relates to the world and grows as a result of what happens to him. That's fun, too.

35. What’s your favorite writing rule to smash into smithereens?

There are plenty, but how about one that I used to agree with and follow religiously, which is: no adverbs. You know what? Fuck that. Use those adverbs. Sprinkle them amongst your prose, or fill it chock full of them if it calls for it. Adverbs add flavor and often humor and I'm all for that.

But then again a guy stopped me when walking Scarlette to ask about my ex who used to walk the dog and talk to him occasionally and it just, hit me hard. Just reminding me that I am alone and there's not someone waiting for me at home besides scarlette. (Which is still wonderful. She's the best dog ever.)

79) When did you speak up, when you know you really should have? I can't recall. It must have been a long while back because now my memories are all filled with moments where it may have been better if I had stayed quiet.

94) What do you think happens after we die? I think that we move on. We see how life was in its entirety for us and we go on to heaven. Maybe God gives us a high five for making it as long as we did or maybe they laugh and tell us we shouldn't have spent so much time worrying when they had our back when we least expected it. All I know is that, I need to change my outlook on life because I'm fine with death. I know how long I've got until I get there. I'm just unsure of what I should do in the meantime.

“Let me ask you this,” Josh said, insinuating himself between his sisters as was so often his wont, throwing an arm around either of their shoulders and settling his weight on them such that both groaned as their knees threatened to buckle. “Would the situation be less awkward for you two if I told you it wouldn’t be the first time we’d done it?”

“Oh God, oh no, oh God, oh geez, oh ew, ew, ew, ew, ewwwww-uh!” Hannah didn’t push him off of her as he might’ve expected. What she did instead was cover her ears with both hands (“A little too late for that, Hanners, don’t you think?”) and pull her entire body in on itself like she was trying to implode. When the universe didn’t suck her into a black hole, she wriggled out from his grasp in one hard spasm of disgust.

Beth, on the other hand, ever the level-headed one, just narrowed her eyes and proceeded to give him the hardest pinch of his life right in the meat of his arm. “Why the fuck would that make things better, you pervert?!”

Joining Hannah in a chorus of sounds (“Ew, ew, ew” vs. “Ow, ow, ow!”), Josh tapped out of the conversation, doing his best to shove Beth off of him. It didn’t work, but he tried, and that’s what mattered.

Still standing in the doorway, Sam just…well, she watched them is what she did, her arms folded over her chest and her eyebrows about as high as they could go. “Guys,” she started, only for both of the twins to whirl on her with very, very different looks of betrayal on their very, very similar faces. “I – wow, okay, geez. I think what Josh was trying to say just now is that we’ve all been friends for a really long time, and we’ve had enough overnighters where, yeah, all right, we’ve definitely – ”

Seeing there was no reality in which Beth was going to stop pinching him like that unless he did something drastic, Josh buckled down and did just that: something drastic. He quickly scanned through his mental collection of all the worst words a human being could use in any given situation, and grabbed the first one that occurred to him. “Porked.”

“Oh God!” Hannah groaned, her handy-dandy earmuffs clearly doing nothing to protect said ears. “Shut up, shut up, shut uuup!”

Beth did stop pinching him, though, which was a plus. She pushed him as hard as she could, yeah, but at least the pinching was done with. “Eugh!”

That left Sam between a rock and a hard place. See, if she laughed (which she really wanted to do), there was no question in her mind that both Hannah and Beth would turn on her, and that wasn’t exactly her idea of a fun weekend getaway. If she didn’t laugh, Josh’s feelings would be hurt, and she’d be the one to pay for it later; there was nothing worse than almost falling asleep only for the person next to you to slide their icy fucking feet and/or hands right against your bare skin. Literally nothing.

Except…except maybe Hannah and Beth tearing her face off and eating it for siding with their brother. Okay, her decision was made.

“Hey. Hey! Time out, huh team?” she joked, making the appropriate gesture with her hands. “Look, you guys said it yourselves, okay? This place is great, but the fact of the matter is, everyone’s gonna have to sleep two to a bed! Everyone else already has their buddies, neither of you two wants to bunk with Josh, so…”

“So we’ll make everyone switch up,” Beth said, as though it were the simplest thing in the world and not grounds enough to start a new Civil War. “Since when does Chris bunk with anyone but Josh anyway?!”

“I think we all know the answer to that question,” Sam responded flatly.

Clearly having the worst day of her young life, Hannah pressed her palms even harder to her ears. “EW!”

“Okay, I…Han, I didn’t even say anything there.”

“You suggested!”

Sam heaved an exhausted sigh. Was this what the whole trip was going to be like? “Okay. Look. Here’s what I think.” Taking a page out of Josh’s book, she got up from where she’d been leaning, gathering Hannah and Beth under either of her arms. Given how small she was, Sam had a little more difficulty with it than Josh had, but beggars couldn’t be choosers. Hannah was still squirming, but Beth wasn’t pinching her, so she took it and ran with it. “I think,” she continued, slowly and subtly leading them towards the door. “Everyone’s just a tiny bit stressed from the long drive. We all need to just, y’know…get some fresh air, and stretch our legs, maybe take a nap or have a snack, and then we can – ”

Acting before either of them could realize what was happening, Sam shoved the twins with all her might, slamming and locking the bedroom door shut behind them. There was a moment of silence…and then the furious knocking began, both of them yelling like what she’d done was tantamount to high treason.

“You just gotta get used to it, that’s all!” Sam called through the door, cupping her hands to her mouth. “You’ll see! It’ll be fine!”

And then, because the threat of future pinches obviously wasn’t enough to deter him, Josh joined her there are the door, similarly cupping his hands to his mouth. “Yeah, ladies, it’ll be fine! Like your good pal Sammy here! Who I will be taking to the bone zone later!”

“Josh,” she snickered, giving him a pinch of her own. “They’re going to kill you the second we step out there, you get that, right?”

“Guess it just means we can’t leave, Sam,” he grinned. “Oooh, what a fun vacay this is going to be…”

OKAY SO admittedly I mostly only know the story through reading Guz’s wiki page a few times (teehee) and through osmosis from the general fandom dsgjkl, i want to play the game one day and maybe read the manga, and I’ve watched the anime eps he’s featured in and that’s all i’m watching of that LOL. I haven’t actually experienced much of his story (or su/mo in general) first-hand myself though fdsjkl

answer below the cut because.... the rambler's curse got me LOL

after the events of su/mo, I don’t think he’d actually disband Team Skull because… what is the point of that honestly LOL, so Team Skull stays together in MY version of the world hehe. they’re required to do community service to make up for whatever shenanigans they get up to, but they stop stealing pokemon and move onto just like… graffiti and casual pranks and stuff. they still cause trouble, but it’s mostly mischief now rather than any actual crime. I set them up to work on murals for shop owners around the islands so they can spraypaint and be artistic that way rather than randomly tagging walls and getting into trouble for it fjdskl. they keep their disdain for authority figures and rules because at the end of the day most of them are rowdy teens who feel outcasted from society, and that’s just the way the ball rolls with them (also a certain level of that is healthy and warranted tbh). I work with Plumeria to organize events and outings (outside of community service) for the squad though, which helps give everyone healthier outlets for their energy and focus.

Hala mentors Guz to help put him onto (and keep him on) the right track, and Guz learns to appreciate the islands and their traditions a bit - even if he still doesn’t agree with all of them. Part of that mentorship is also sort of therapy (in a more holistic naturally-occurring way rather than like... clinical therapist sitting with patient), so trauma gets unpacked and healthier ways of handling emotions are learned and implemented. Also fuck the Aether Foundation HFDSJKL I keep Guz far away from Lusamine and make sure she never gets close to him again (idk what Gladion and Lillie get up to, I haven’t thought enough about them yet fsjkl). There’s a lot of healing and self-improvement and learning how to Be A PersonTM for both of us tbh!

Beyond that, it is mostly just regular Alola/island living!! Beach visits, walking around, getting ice cream and popsicles, casual battles with tourists, catching wimpods, all that sort of thing :] Also we visit Sinnoh (my home region) for half the year (i have… a whole schedule worked out for that actually LOL) so there’s that, too.

as for the plushie omg thank u sm WAUGH :D i cannot tell if it’s just because i have a weird hodge-podge skillset but i DO think it is not actually all that difficult !!! you just need a pattern for cutting the felt and then I learned the ladder stitch for hand-sewing, and it’s been very straightforward on how to sew the pieces together!! the hardest part so far has just been the hair because I have a difficult time translating 2D images to 3D reality in that way.

I just really want to encourage ppl to try their hand at new crafts and creative skills because I think it’s really fun and honestly really good for ppls well-being!! i am very passionate about making creativity accessible to people as much as possible!!! maybe i could make a tutorial or smth… the pattern I'm using is free and available on the creator’s website, and it’s genuinely not that difficult esp compared to some other things i’ve tried my hand at in the past LOL I feel like some of my paper mache projects have been more complex than this lil goober!!
