Unseasonal for no snow to be here, but at least some of the Schlumbergeras are popping around the right time despite hit/miss care.

So my mother has a Thanksgiving cactus that she's had for 45+ years that was grown from a cutting of my Grandfather's Thanksgiving cactus that he inherited from his mother and was rumored to be over 100 years old (I have no idea what happened to that plant when he died). It only occurred to me THIS YEAR that I could take a cutting of this plant and then it would be a four-generation plant. After doing some research, I concluded that it was best to wait until spring but my intention is to grow this plant on my ancestral altar. My Grandfather has been a huge part of my plant journey for me - he has the ancestral "green thumb" and kept two greenhouses and grew most of his family's vegetables during the year. I feel his presence often when I tend my plants, especially some that I know he loved (like chives! I love them, too!).
I wish that it were spring already but it is at least something to look forward to.

I love how Schlumbergeras sometimes just decide they wanna flower at all non-holiday seasons. Which fair enough; their wild ancestors stick to the season of May in their native habitat anyhow.

Cactus time!
I brought this one away from a window I just had to open for some ventilation, and thought I would get a few pics. (Hoping it won't drop the blooms from just that disturbance, tbqh.)
It's an honestly fairly neglected little plant that I picked up at Lidl last year, but it does seem happy enough with the windowsill it's been living on in this apartment.
The phone camera did weird things with the bloom colors, and I didn't feel like trying to edit that. But, in reality? This appears to be a fairly standard darkish-pinky Schlumbergera truncata hybrid, like so:

Very cheerful! Come spring, I want to move it up into a bigger pot.

Here’s my other office plant! This has been super neglected, planted in a mix of peat moss in a coconut fiber pot, for years. I finally made amends by giving it a proper pot, proper soil, with a spot at the window. Probably will actually grow now.
