their theme is so inconsistent like at the beginning it feels clear, being who you are and accepting each other’s darkness, but the way its done is 😬 and then it switches up to being literally budget toa saying “well everything can change yk??? don’t stay in the darkness” but in a horrible fashion and they’re acting like this is what they’ve been trying to tell me in the past 400 pages when it ISNT dont LIE to ME

i don’t think EITHER of them was reading the book as they write they were just mashing words together bc im watching a book promo for it rn and rick’s saying that will likes nico bc he likes nicos ““darkness”” and how intrigues him and mark’s saying neither of nico or will wants to change that core part of the other. which explains away him in BOO trying to tell nico that nobody disliked him—being that will was projecting his own feelings about nico onto others—and also relates will to apollo even more with their need to reach out to outcasts and love them. but then they didn’t write that they literally wrote that will doesn’t like it and he wants to fix it. thats my STEP SON and they did that to him.

rick did not want to write this book at all, and mark probably projected their nico stanisms onto the other characters without justifying the stanisms. you can really tell when rick has a passion for writing something and when he could not care less. the subtle toa promo in one of the gorgyra scenes and apollo’s updated glossary—he wants you to read toa so bad he could not gaf about this book. and yet apollo is never mentioned positively like give him back to me.

speaking of mark i think this is just a consistent issue they have when writing. i read reviews of one of their books (anger is a gift) and some were very negative about the way the narrative made the protagonist the most righteous person ever and completely revolved around them. ifl that issue bleeds into this book as well.

i saw people (including the writers) say this book is darker than a lot of rick’s other books and i really need them to shut the fuck up; THO literally had kids tied up in crucifixes to be burned at the stake 😭

you absolutely ate this up!!

also laughing at you calling it “budget toa” because that’s exactly what i said to a friend about this book once. i felt almost offended over the authors trying to fit the “everyone can change!!” narrative last minute and make Nico the symbol of re-invention after five whole books of ToA. i was very “how dare you stand where he stood” about it which is childish but alas.

i’ve also mentioned several times how will and nico’s conflict in the book was not intriguing to read about because it was inconsistent. not to mention that according to the timeline they’ve been together for a year!!! an entire year!!! and the book still has Will acting #shocked that Nico, idk, likes darkness.

the Mary-Suing of Nico literally the worst thing to ever happen to me. i’m usually all for my faves winning, but that’s after they’ve been through the mortifying ordeal of losing, yk. and i get that Nico has been through a lot but the book was basically a 400-pages-long ass kissing and i couldn’t do it.

i couldn’t even feel particularly moved or vindicated by Bob pledging loyalty to him in the end because it wasn’t cathartic at all. i was like we get it dude lol

same with his “friendship” with Piper tbh. not everyone needs to like Nico😭 i would have totally loved it if the book had shown a friendship progress organically through their grief for Jason or common interests (even if just briefly narrated through a recollection!! i’m not saying we needed chapters of flashbacks or Piper as a third main), but Nico does not mention her once ever. they didn’t even like each other in HoO!! then at the end of the book he calls her and he is all like “of course she wouldn’t be angry at me for not calling after Jason died <3 she understands that grief is complicated <3”

my king Piper isn’t angry at you for not calling because she dgaf about you. why would she. who are you to her

another thing I’ll never get over re: Nico and Will’s relationship is how, per the book, Nico encouraged Will to come out and was the first one of the two to do so, when every. single. thing written about them in the Hidden Oracle suggests the opposite.

why the fuck is Nico so reticent and embarrassed about admitting to be Will’s boyfriend in the first book of ToA if it’s Nico who came out first? IN FRONT OF THE WHOLE CAMP might I add?

because i get that coming out to someone doesn’t necessarily mean being comfortable coming out to everyone, but Nico announced his crush IN FRONT OF THE WHOLE CAMP. and asked Will out. and Will wasn’t out at the time. so whyyyy is their dynamic on THO literally the opposite of this? with Will pushing Nico to be more open about their relationship while Nico plays coy? because Apollo is Will’s father? idk, maybe i guess😭

but it’s pretty obvious the change in the dynamic was established later on and that the impression we were supposed to have while reading THO is that Will was the one more comfortable and in tune with his sexuality. like, come on.

wait wait wait, what about "Like Father, Like Libby"?? What are your thoughts on THAT dad episode? Especially bc what you said about alador. I cried 😭

This is one of those moments where I meant in my other post TGaMM does a good job of balancing humour with serious tones, but evidently not making it a cheapened moment. Libby is a great character who has visibly grown out of her shell thanks to Molly's influence, and when we see her be passionate we can see/relate to a lot of aspects of her child-like glee. Granted, she is still a kid, but the way her excitement of lost time/potential takes hold of her here in this episode is even something Leah was surprised by. Which makes it very real and relatable!

To briefly pull away from the focus of the episode, I loved the B plot with Molly and Scratch because of the gags and one-liners. One of my favourite tropes in fiction, especially in sitcom series, is a character who is suddenly doing crosswords for the entirety of the episode which basically tees up punchlines and gags. I don't care if it's cheesy, I always find it hilarious. It's a simple way to set up jokes, but TGaMM did great with their deliveries and had me and my sister cackling.

Which is good! As undercutting serious tension can be needed to add levity. I feel as though if I had watched this episode as a kid, a lot of Leah's behaviours would've gone over my head then. But as I am now, seeing how she is, having moments of laughter adds great balance to the main story. And additionally, more moments of Libby and Molly's BFF nature is great: the fact that she knew Molly already messed up but was just playing it off just goes to show how well she knows her friend (I headcanon she asked Molly to put Simon on the phone just to troll her).

Now, the dad.

I love that Leah wasn't disheartened or jealous with Libby's sudden affection for her father. She had discomfort, but mainly because she knows what kind of man Matias really is. Seeing how she subtly places herself in support of her daughter throughout the entire is a great detail in how she is the parent that stayed and truly loved Libby, but also that Libby is aware of her mom's presence. As when the moment happens, she immediately knows she can rely on her mom again.

She just misses her dad.

And that, is wonderful storytelling in the way that not even Libby was aware how much she wanted her father in her life until the opportunity presented itself. I don't think she wanted to become a writer because of him, but I bet that had a small influence in her outlet with her poetry and such. Much of his lack of presence takes a toll and is finally let loose here, which enhances Libby's expectations. She asks her mother if his personality is basically anything like the stereotypical dads she's no doubt read/heard about.

Though I believe even Libby started to suspect something at the moment she met him too, as when her dad gave her a signed copy it felt like she recognized his signature was more general than personalized for her. Seeing that after all the expectations and build up, he turns out to be exactly as Leah suspected, was a gut punch but also very raw. Letting Libby soak in her moment for a bit was nice, but having her come out of it and recognize her mother's value in her life made it all the better.

All in all, a great episode and definitely up there in my top five faves so far.

(P.S.: Matias book series is gonna flop, what kind of publisher decides to make a book into a trilogy after a book is released?)

Dazai- god i feel like I’m so picky about Dazai characterizations and it’s so hard to describe sometimes I’ll just be like NO THATS WRONG‼️ but I guess one thing is when Dazai mentoring ryunosuke is just boiled down to a black and white situation where Dazai was soooo abusive to poor ryu (and i feel like this is a disservice to akutagawas character too), but Iike you have a child raised in a strict mafia environment and then you give that unstable child control over *another child* it’s not gonna go well, and i don’t personally blame either of the children in that scenario 🙄 idk BSD just has a lot of complex situations and I feel like they’re not always handled as such 😌🩵 Wtf this morally grey character is making problematic choices??? Cancel him🚫

Chuuya- when he’s just angry shouty guy who yells and shouts, sometimes I feel like I’m looking at a bad bakugo parody 😭

21. If you're a fic writer and have written for this character, what's your favorite thing to do when you're writing for this character? What's something you don't like?

Ummm for Dazai i like making him break down and cry and forcing him to admit he needs help or attention 🥺👉👈 or sick or just any kind of general vulnerability, and flip side for Chuuya, I love forcing him to admit he’s worried about Dazai or cares about him. My favorite part of Chuuya’s character is that he’s a genuinely nice person, Dazai is just so annoying and pushes his buttons, so I love showing off Chuuya’s softer side and highlighting his protective and caring nature. That scene where chuuya watches Dazai get slammed into a tree by lovecraft x1000000❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

22. If you're a fic reader, what's something you like in fics when it comes to ths character? Something you don't like?

For both of them like I said above im so picky and if you make them one dimensional or even if the vibes are bad I’ll just be like NO THATS WRONG‼️ and close the fic

Something i *like* is pretty much my same answer for 21 ajdhhfhdjs I really only write about what I like reading about so I’m a sucker for vulnerable Dazai and sappy Chuuya BUT for a more specific, ridiculous, self indulgent answer i like when Dazai is written regressed 🥹🩵 or even if he’s baby, just in energy 🥺🩵 Dazai is baby and should be written as such

25. What was your first impression of this character? How about now?

First impressions of Dazai was i don’t even remember him, I read the first bsd book at the library when I was in middle/high school (don’t remember exactly when) and was like eh. Boring. I think it didn’t help that they didn’t have all the books so it was like volume one, three, five, prime numbers only. I think I read soul eater instead lmao. Flash forward to college I had seen bsd characters and i liked the designs, and i had figured chuuya would be my favorite bc he kinda reminded me a bit of Karkat from homestuck (a dear fave of mine at one point) in that angry but actually sweet and kindhearted kinda way.

I was still eh whatever about Dazai, which is crazy because I’ve seen him compared to both Gojo and Reigen in the silly mentor who lost the kids he’s custody of kinda way, and those two are some more faves of mine. Tbh i didn’t solidify him as my fave until we learned of his tragic past because my OTHER favorite kind of character is a rude little bastard, and i was shown the light. Dazai Osamu has the range. He’s like a two for one, which I’m pretty sure he’s a Gemini??? I’m not gonna google and confirm just trust me i think he’s a Gemini ♊️

Impressions now obviously Dazai is my babygirl, my soaking wet cat, my poor pathetic meow meow who has both never done anything wrong and also committed so many war crimes. Chuuya I knew i would like him and I do lmao, close second from Dazai. I think Dazai is pretty much my ultimate fave character of all time…

I love Kon but one think that really annoys me abt the comics is that they never acknowledged how messed up it was that he was dating older woman (Tana, Knockout) as a 16 year old. Does Kon even know it was wrong? WHERE WERE ALL THE ADULTS IN HIS LIFE WHEN THIS WAS HAPPENING!!

ugh yeah, i know his solo comic is not the only case of this happening, but its why i avoided reading his solo for a while (and why i prefer the latter half of his solo and his yj comics instead). and why im glad thats one thing we left in the 90s. so okay this is about to get into some fucked up things and general ranting about completely unnecessary comics bullshit so tw: grooming, p*dophilia, SA

So yeah, as much as I love him and his comics, i do have a lot of criticism for his solo. (but there are a lot of issues i do like so ill try to make a list of my faves one day)

in his solo comics, kon dates this 23/24 yr old reporter named Tana, and later has this brief fling with a villain named Knockout. And kon's character is obviously meant to be the "cool teen" which i guess in the 90s meant being into older women. That, or the writer is pushing his weird fantasies onto him, which happens quite a lot with comics (Idk comic book romances are usually so weird to me they push for really strange stuff). At the same time though, there was a letter i read from a reader at the time that expressed concern over letting kon date older women, bc they were worried his feelings would get hurt, as well as question why no one has really taken kon under their wing, so there were definitely people in the 90s that thought that shit was weird as fuck. But I also saw a recent comment from a dude that didn't bat an eye at it which says a lot about that guy like come on dude we r in the 2020s :/

Anyways, the thing with Tana frustrates me because it was such a missed opportunity for an interesting female character of Hawaiian ethnicity and they could have easily made her Kon's age and make her like a member of the highschool's newsclub or something, but the writer had to fuck it up and make it weird...Kon can be uncomfortably flirty in this era of comics, but the fact Tana returns it and even acknowledges their age difference and still pushes for it is even more uncomfortable. She even says she feels more like his mom at one point and even reports on his school activities. I mean when Kon is first introduced, she expresses concern that the news outlet is just taking advantage of him bc he doesn't know any better, and her boss says she's doing the same, but then she grows to care more about kon as a person :/ She only breaks up with him after his operation that gets him stuck at 16 for a while, because she doesn't wanna date a dude that will never grow up or mature, which is fucked up to me bc he is 16 of course he's immature T-T

But at the same time, this was never weird to the writer's mind, so he writes Tana as being superboy's guiding figure that sort of helps him learn about morals and about being a person. So she's still very important to him, i just wish it didn't have to be so WEIRD.

(Tangent, and not at all exclusive to superboy comics, but I truly do hate how women in 90s comics, especially those that are not white, are treated as 'exotic' almost, and while Tana was wrong for dating a teen, i also blame the writer in the treatment of her character, even if there were other Hawaiian characters present that I did like like Sam and Hillary)

Of course, the Knockout situation is like 10x more fucked up, because Tana was at least kind and caring to him, but Knockout straight up manipulates him. This one is even more uncomfy so i'd skip over #23-31 (tw for SA) if you wanna avoid it, but it does affect Kon a lot after. I think the writer was trying to lean into the "rebel bad boy" schtick by making Kon get swept up by a hardcore fury. They do have other characters address the situation, but they point out that it's bad to hang with a villain and run from the law rather than point out how he's being taken advantage by someone older than him. In this arc, Mae Kent/Supergirl says he's unworthy of being a Super, and he almost believes it. The ending to this arc is really intense tbh, bc kon slowly realizes how wrong it all is after knockout tries to get him to kill a person. he goes to confront her and she literally attempts to SA him, but instead they have a showdown in which kon attempts to drown the both of them in order to stop her, before saving her instead because he can't kill her (he never kills and shows empathy towards his antagonists). he's clearly shaken up by it, but the comic writes that he's mostly shocked that people could ever act like that, again never explicitly saying that her being older or sexually using him was fucked up, just that her being a villain was fucked up. But this arc did serve to show kon fight for what’s right and show that he is worthy of being a super, and that he’s lost some of his innocence but not his faith in good

anyways, i highly doubt any of this will ever be addressed in canon, bc as time goes on with comics, side characters such as these fade away to the point where they might not even have played a part in a character's life, so who knows. not only that, but this sort of stuff is just casually thrown into comics in general and barely ever addressed again? id like to say its only a 90s thing but ive read some 2000s stuff with other characters have weird shit too.

i think the closest thing you're ever gonna get is this panel of serling, who is kon's age and probably the only love interest i actually kinda liked, telling kon that she understands the feeling of meeting someone who's seen and done it all (like say, an older person) and how exciting that can be for someone like her and kon who have never really experienced real life, only to realize that there's often something far darker underneath. again, not explicitly stated enough imo, but its there and does imply why Kon got so easily taken advantage of and that he does realize on some level that it was wrong . (i could be missing other panels that address it but idk i just remembered this one mostly)

So yeah, sorry for rambling. it's just a very messed up situation. i do think it's weird that none of the adults stepped in and watched out for him more, but at the same time, the writer clearly didnt see the need to.

i don't blame people for ignoring it or leaving it out in their canons, bc you can still explore the "being taken advantage of" from different angles that aren't as uhhhhh gross but yeah that’s that sorry for the rant 😭

At least his appearances in yj comics are much happier ☹️

hello again!! follow up ask time because u cannot just leave me hanging with the fact u ended up owning the school library copy of one fierce hour damn!!!!!!

anyway my drama teacher lent (gave?) me his personal copy of off centre (another thing i could go for hours on about; really want to read/watch/perform more of haresh sharma's works, i've only watched a bootleg of 'those who can't, teach' on youtube and read, watched (a lot of versions on youtube) and performed off centre) ANYWAY he lent it to me bc i was performing a monolgue from it and it's been lying on my desk for three years. i graduate in one and he may have just. forgotten. it's very awkward now and my friend is in the same predicament with another book he lent her and she at least assured me it wouldn't be THAT bad if i still had it after graduating bc he has another copy lmao

but yeah anyway i found alfian sa'at after my english teacher gave me more recommendations for singaporean poets via poetry.sg!! even before i knew he was queer (and all the other controversy haizz) when i first read his 'autobiography' poem (here if u want: http://www.poetry.sg/alfian-saat-autobiography) and it stuck out so much and was so special, from the way he uses his language to idk his themes? really great stuff

Aww your English teacher sounds very awesome as well--and thanks for the rec! :) one of my fave English teachers once shared a poem with me once (very short) about grief but it was about flowers and spring and I guess the point was that life goes on? She told it to us in the context of her brother passing away and it made such an impact on me and I can't for the LIFE of me find it back no matter what search terms I use and it's literally been bugging me for the past 10 years. Thought I'd try my luck with you? Maybe you might know it.

Oh forgot to add--dont you think Alfian Sa'at and the way he writes his poems has a cadence/rhythm to it that sounds like singlish?? I love that so much and I wish I knew more how to use that rhythm in my writing.

I watched the Mark Oshiro interview and noted down the rrverse-relevant passages for y'all

(I would rec watching the vid in its entirety if you have time to kill; Mark is super charming and thoughtful, just like I remembered them from their "Mark Watches" days, and says a lot of interesting stuff abt writing and the publishing industry in general)

– Rick had the full outline ready: major arcs & themes figured out already

– there’s stuff in the outline Rick had been planning for years, he had it sitting for a while

– Rick sought Mark out specifically, then Mark was asked to “audition” by writing the first 3 chapters that would be later seen by various ppl including some of the Disney publishing ppl. Mark decided to tweak/change some stuff. Kept 90% of the outline changed a 10%. They felt they needed to figure out/visualize things that weren’t in Rick’s outline, that were left unspecified there (the way Mark talks abt it, it feels like it’s mainly worldbuilding/lore stuff they are talking abt). Mark says Becky Riordan was very helpful with this, she knows the canon deets better than Rick.

– Rick wanted Mark to write first draft bc even tho the story is Rick’s, he wanted it to be told through an authentically queer perspective, with the nuance and sensibility that he as a straight man doesn’t feel capable of understanding/conveying.

– There’s things in the final draft that Oshiro decided to leave to Rick bc they felt Rick knew the characters better

– Oshiro talks abt the reactions of the ppl who have read the quasi final drafts and how one of the Disney editors said the book was for rrverse fans “like Spiderman No Way Home was for spiderman fans”, meaning this is a book that respects the identity these characters have built through the prev books and the history they have while still managing to take them somewhere new, which is exactly what Mark was trying to accomplish, and which they say “Rick is deeply thoughtful about. He cares a lot.” – Mark wanted to give these characters their due and also (said in a lighthearted but also clearly committed & passionate manner) make the gayest Percy Jackson book ever published

– talks a bit about an upcoming horror YA book of theirs and calls it “the fist dual pov book I’ve written”. The book comes out march 2023, it seems likely Mark’s started working on this before the solangelo book so… probably means nothing re: whose pov solangelo is told from?

– Mark thinks Rick has the ability to inject levity in extremely dark moments without lowering the intensity/stakes, which is essential when writing for middle graders while still wanting to take the story to emotionally challenging places, but very few authors can do it as well and as effectively (I AGREE)

– there’s a scene in the solangelo book where Mark kinda wrote themselves into a corner bc it was too scary and they realized it might not fly for the intended readership “and then I thought of the silliest way to deflate the terror” and they are very proud of that bc they feel they captured the quintessential Riordan tone. Bc the PJO books are great and complex and telling important stories etc but quote: “they’re fucking weird as hell” too.

– Mark actually only started reading the saga in 2018. Read them all in a week and was like the Lady Gaga meme. yukine!!!! my darling sweet baby boy. ha i bet y'all thought it was tsuyu, huh? most people do. i fell in love with yukine after reading ahead in the manga when the anime was airing (and i do believe this bit was untranslated at the time?) and learning that he takes the hit from yato. this baby bratty child doing something so brave and selfless when just chapters before he was hurting yato....good good stuff. and he's only gotten better from there. and he gets to keep his brattiness! he's a tsundere lil baby but he loves fiercely and would do anything for yato and hiyori and... and after learning his backstory and everything else and GOD I LOVE HIM

tsuyu. i don't have nearly as compelling a reason for loving her as much as i do as i did for yukine. she's....she's a cute frog girl.....idk what you want from me. she is a good character in her own right, she's strong and human (like when she broke down bc she felt bad for telling them they shouldn't save bakugou) but as her nature as a very very side character, she doesn't have a whole lot of development or much to work with. i like her and she's cute. the end!

dazai. he's alllmost tied with tsuyu. actually i thought about reordering those two. i'm not really sure. i just have way more tsuyu merch than dazai merch (though that doesn't mean a whole lot bc i hardly have any yukine merch at all BECAUSE IT DOESN'T FUCKING EXIST anyway). i love how morally grey he is...well, almost morally black lol. like dude has murdered and tortured people but is still on the side of the "good guys". his backstory with oda is great, the idea that he's on the side of the good guys not because he WANTS to but because it's what his friend wanted; and also that he doesn't even really care either way, that it's not like he had some deep change of heart or anything but just. was that devoted to his friend is just. mwah, good stuff. i don't like how he's written sometimes as like, he knows EVERYTHING and is ALWAYS 5 steps ahead of everyone else; gets kind of annoying, sometimes, but i still love him.

- the rest// yeah ok now is when we're starting to falter. from here on down i don't really have a solid order. i adore amajiki (and i love how hori made a joke about him being...well, a stand-in for hori in some ways lol), i love kirishima, i love deku (i ADORE deku as a protag i think he's great). i love rin from yuru camp. a recent fave is lu guang; love how he's willing to risk EVERYTHING for cxs and is a total hypocrite, but for him to properly make this list is gonna depend heavily on how the show writes his background, his motivations, and the resulting fallout and how that's handled. oh i love tanuma from natsume yuujinchou too! he's wonderful. oh big fan of atsushi too!! and poe....ok i'll shut up now hehe, these are all "characters i like a lot" but like, not characters i actively think about often (with the exception of lg bc of current brainrot...again, we'll have to see if that holds up and he can get properly added to this list)

tag gamerules: favorite: movie, hobby, animal, character, color, place, season, album, food

movie: I'm one of those people who doesn't have just one favorite anything. But I tend to rewatch Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron every now and then (it was def my fave for a bit when I was a kid). I used to make my dad watch it with me whenever he stayed home to watch me when I was sick.

hobby: Does drawing count when it's what I went to school for? If not, I'll go with reading. Love a good bit of escapism. I love storytelling more generally in all sorts of forms (i.e. movies, TV, games, etc), but reading was definitely what got me started. Recently I've been reading a lot of fanfiction. Last year I kept track of all the books I read and I ended up with the insane number of 534 books read.

animal: I'm a big fan of hyenas. This is another one where I don't have just one favorite, but hyenas are where I'm sitting right now. I think that they're really neat for a variety of reasons. They're matriarchal which is super cool, and they were used in medieval bestiaries as a sort of example of sexual deviance because they were believed to be hermaphroditic (they aren't, the females just have external vaginal canals that look like a penis- it makes giving birth as difficult as you think it does). I think they're a really cool example of how nature doesn't give a fuck about human ideas of how sexual dimorphism (and subsequently gender) should work. I tend to gravitate towards animals that media tends to use as shorthand for evil bc I think it's lazy and irresponsible (I also love sharks).

character: Ghost. I do too much projecting for it not to be him. I'm deep in my COD era (this is a COD blog after all). He's just this big beefy man who is deeply traumatized and has trouble trusting people and developing deep relationships. What's not to love?

color: It's maroon. It is maroon, it has been maroon, it will always be maroon. IDC that I surround myself with pastels. If it has to be one color and not a palette, it's maroon.

place: the aquarium <3. It's just so calming (when the children are not screaming, but we listen to the children scream because they're excited and it's good for them and we're an adult and can wait until they move on so we can watch the fish in the quiet). Every now and then I'll take a day in the middle of the week when school is in session to go to the aquarium or the zoo by myself. I like watching the animals, and I don't feel bad about sitting and drawing them for like 30+ minutes when there aren't any other people who's view I'm blocking.

season: spring. When it's easiest to spend time outside. It's not too hot, and if it's chilly I can throw on a sweater. I like sitting outside in the afternoon sun and reading poetry out loud. Makes me feel like a fairy.

album: star-crossed by Kacey Musgraves. That album came out around the time I had to put down my cat, and I would just listen to it on repeat and cry. It's got a very specific grief+nostalgia combo that really hits me. It's still one of my go-tos when I need a good cry. I have playlists for when I'm happy, but that album has a special place in my heart. 'if this was a movie..' and 'camera roll' are probably my favorite songs off of it.

food: this one is hardest I think. My family is Not Great at expressing feelings, so I ended up with food as a proxy for love and care. And both my parents draw from a pretty diverse set of culinary practices for various reasons, so I've inherited it. When I'm feeling homesick, I'll cook Italian. When I'm sad or missing my brothers, I'll cook Korean. When I miss my mom, I'll make Turkish. As I'm writing this, though, I'm thinking about dumplings.

Hi, Anon! My inbox has not seen any hc’s request for quite some time now, so yours is a blessing lmao. Besides writing small headcanons here and there, I haven’t worked on any Scoia’tael since last year - which is a crime, to be honest. In all honesty, I love seeing new ppl getting into the Scoia’tael, especially Issy bc he’s one of my faves (even tho I haven’t written much for him). So, without further ado, let’s get into these hc’s.

I have a strong belief that Isengrim is one of the best at singing praises of their loved ones amongst the Scoia’tael. He can surely make a simply compliment overflow with love towards someone he loves. Better than that, whatever comes out of his mouth is truth, he doesn’t believe in empty words and praises. Isengrim is as truthful as possible in his relationship and in general, he isn’t the type to “waste his breath” on some cheap lies. Whenever he compliments their loved one, it’s genuine and from the bottom of his heart. His iconic habit is to reverse their loved ones flirting with a reply that will make them swoon.

When it comes to physical things, one peculiar habit he has is enveloping their loved ones from behind, holding them in a close embrace while nuzzling their nape. This usually happens behind closed doors at the beginning of his relationships, he tends to be quite closeted when it comes to public affections - especially at the time when he was referred to as the Iron Wolf and the Colonel of Vrihedd Brigade. Between his public image and the affection, he tended to choose the prior.

Amongst the Scoia’tael his the closest to being the one to dance with their loved one (even though he prefers step dancing solo). Holding them close, his hands on their hips while rocking slowly around on the grass, their barren feet feeling every little grass blade is an experience he wouldn’t exchange for anything. He’s more of the type to do this rather than giving their loved one simply trinkets, he holds activities and experiences at a higher value than simply objects.

As mentioned above, Isengrim tends to set more value on quality time rather than objects that can be easily broken, lost or sold. From a simply supper together to cuddling under a starlit sky, he loves spending alone time with their loved ones, away from any commotion. One of his favourite activities is to read aloud, and if their loved one allowed him, he would happily discuss and read to them his current book that his reading (secretly I love the idea of him being a sort of bookworm).

One big step in any kind of romantic relationship of his is physical touch. Especially when it comes to the scars on his face because if you manage to touch them without Isengrim either yelling or running away from you, it’s a major giveaway of his love. So far there have been quite a few people in his life that managed to create that big bond with him, with Eldain being one and the latest to do it. When Isengrim gets a simple caress of his cheek, he easily melts into the touch with glassy eyes accompanying it. His public persona of the “big bad iron wolf” gets immediately swiped away with a simple stroke of a loving touch.

☁️: A soft headcanon

Eldain has a knack to use Isengrim’s name meanings as a nickname (the fact that it’s the witcher version of ‘Moon Moon’ has never gone outta my mind lmao). So it’s not uncommon to hear him say stuff like ‘Oh, there’s our Wolf Wolf!’.

When he was still part of the war, he tended to wake up earlier than he had to, simply to walk around the camp and check that everything has stayed the same when he went to sleep. Also, he took great care to check up on the elves that had been standing guard, whether it be to simply chat with them or make them take leave because of them almost falling asleep on duty.

On a side note, I believe him to be one of the ‘ most chill commanders’ amongst the Scoia’tael, though it doesn’t mean he didn’t care. What I mean is that Isengrim had that easy-going relationship with his subordinates, he wouldn't push them too much when he knew there wouldn’t be any good results. At the same time, whenever someone betrayed or made a major error - he would punish them accordingly. The fact his subordinates thought of him as the “chillest” didn’t necessarily mean that he wasn't able to act accordingly.

Even though Isengrim has the reputation of a feared commander for a guerrilla group, I feel like he would be good with kids. In all honesty, I imagine him having a secret sweet spot for kids. There’s also that kids are obsessed and fascinated with him, especially because of his scars. Though, being awkward at first, Isengrim seems to have a supernatural authority amongst kids, whether non-human or dh’oine.

Isengrim’s way of showing how important someone is to him is by doing small and usually insignificant things for them. From bringing a cup of tea to one of his “little brothers” commanders or patching up someone's favourite garment, he will gladly do it to show his appreciation for sticking up with him through the good and bad times.

GIBSON AND GORO ARE SO IMPORTANT TO ME!!!! despite their history there was never any lingering hostility or anything between them. they respected each other so much and took so much inspiration from one another and grew as people because of it. like gibson had been so arrogant and almost selfish in his debut eps but he transformed thanks to goro's influence and became such a humble and selfless person like even when he was dying he never put himself first. it was all about keeping his promise to goro, and making up for lost time with junior, and upholding the pride of his country, even if it meant putting his life on the line to do so. and in the last arc of season 5 we saw how he touched the hearts of fans all around the world with his resolve and i think it's so so beautiful

Z: Just ramble about something fan-related, go go go! uhhhhhh i guess with the new pjo adaptation i'm a bit concerned with alleged racism in fandom spaces now?? so many people are up in arms about annabeth's casting like "you're racist if you don't support this casting!!" like it's not that we don't support it? i love that annabeth will be black in the show! it's great! but... in the books and the movie... she is still... a white character... and maybe... it's not so bad... if people PREFER the books and the movie... so they continue to think of annabeth as a white character as a result... like, it's not erasing black annabeth at all! it's just they will continue to think of annabeth as white bc it's the annabeth they know and love! either way, the character is still annabeth! same source material and everything! anyway that's it, people will probably come after me for this but i just wanted to say it :/

Hey Ryen! Sooo I reread 3tan1 after reading Anytime and I apologise in advance for all the quotes I'm going to put here, it just feels like I'm annotating one of my favourite books so bear with me please.

I loved going back to seeing things through Yoongi's pov, that man sets the bar for all humankind I swear.

After seeing Yoongi going soft for MC in the next chapters I had almost forgotten that he has the bad boy/player side to him too lol

It's great to see how easily they can understand and read each other from the start even if they haven't seen each other in years and their previous interactions were pretty shallow. It just goes to show how well they match and how much attention they pay to each other. "And ever the avid reader, he could sit and read you all day." I mean this line just...

I love that from the start Yoongi tries to make MC erase any doubt she has about herself and that that's what pushes him over the edge and makes him give in to her demand in the first place.

"Never have you been so taken care of first—or at all—before." 🥺🥺🥺 It feels so good to know that MC finally has someone who is willing to show her that she deserves to be treated right beacuse she really really does.

Also reading “In my pussy, you son of a bitch!” makes me laugh out loud every time I read it. I love when MC gets impatient and forgets to be shy and overthink things lol.

Obviously everything Yoongi says is extremely hot and considerate at the same time, but having developed this huge soft spot for MC while reading all the next parts makes me stop at every one of her lines and just 🥺🥺🥺 “I’m liking everything with you”🥺🥺🥺

"This kiss isn’t like the others before, or like anything you both just did. It effectively calms you and starts to scrape at the hardest pieces of doubt caked on your brain, not relenting until they’re fully dealt with." Nothing will ever compare to the way Yoongi recognises and eases MC's worries with everything he does and says.

"What matters is that you were shown self-worth that will never leave the marrow of your bones, nor the deepest recesses of your brain." I simply have no words after reading this I just love them so much.

Overall, seeing the progress of MC with her being able to voice what she wants just in this chapter, let alone thinking about how much better she gets at it later on makes me soft and I can't wait to see her being even more confident in herself in the future too.

Also this time around, my mission is also to pay more attention to all the details that we get about bro since I still don't have a concrete theory about who he is yet.

i love when it feels like your annotating, though! those are the best bc it fosters genuine discussion (which i love.) and yoongi's povs are my faves<33 AND RIGHT LMAO like we see yoongi's personality around reader that when we get back to the parts where he's his fuckboy self, the duality hits like a train! i'll put the rest under a cut bc i have a lot more to say dfhskfjl

i'm sighing reading your review bc it's taking me back to working on the original 3tan :')) the very start of their journey (at least, their new one) that's full of both uncertainty and understanding each other right away. and the avid reader line, yeah.. gosh.

what's also cool is that we do see reader being demanding here! she really had nothing to lose at this point so we saw that side of her before all the rest. i can't wait to revisit that side, even though i'm certainly not ready for it lol AND HER CURSING WHEN IMPATIENT LMAOO you just know that will get yoongi every damn time, too.

the contrast between yoongi's fiery lines and reader's super delicate ones? i loved working on. because it makes yoongi pause and reminds him about reader's personality. he's just starting to see how she is, and that's why it gets him hooked.

the lines from the end, though! i intended for this to be a one-shot with an open ending, but i'm honestly so grateful we kept it going because these two have come to mean the world to me. like you, i'm ready to see reader grow and show off that confidence we all know she has!

thoughts while/after reading a court of wings and ruin for the first time

I sped through this book so I didn't really write much down as I was reading so these are thoughts after I read the first half and then once I finished the rest

first half, chapters 1-32

I love lucien so much I feel bad that feyre was using him for her schemes but also I love her liike she's so sneaky. even if it didn't work out as planned

'he's a different breed' made me laugh

so a faerie's mate being a human is a thing? that's weird/interesting/idk

I was wondering why tf feyre's power was so low bc she's supposed to be strong as fuck. I was like um ?

lucien and feyre leaving together!! I kinda knew it was gonna happen bc in the recap vid of mist and fury that i watched she was like 'lucien would get on well with rhys' group wink wink' but also like, it was obvious anyways - elain is his mate, lucien has clearly been a bit iffy about the way tamlin has done things

made me sad that feyre wasn't just straight up like yeah lucien you should come with me like I get it but also :(

lucien and feyre travelling together for a bit was cool I love their dynamic a lot

lucien and nesta's first dinner with everyone is my fave like both of them slowly realising that the vibes are fun and being kinda surprised

amren being stuck teaching nesta is funny, I feel like they're a good duo

are we gonna get an eris is actually a good guy story bc I am here for it idk, I'm very intrigued

so everyone knows that cassian and nesta are mates right they just for whatever reason won't just say it? or is this vibe purely bc he broke his promise or whatever? surely not

azriel being all soft with elain is so cute wait. but also her and lucien would be cute too and idk UGH

nesta and elain had the potential to really irritate me but they haven't been too bad actually. I'm intrigued by whatever is going on with nesta. elain being a seer is a bit less fun bc that's not massively my vibe but it's fine. also I feel like the second she starting being cryptic like she was having visions it was kinda obvious she was some kind of psychic

it's almost comical how non-evil rhys is like wdym he has a library for abused women like okay sarah we get it he's actually very nice under that bad boy exterior

second half, chapter 33-end

I teared up way too many times and lowkey can't remember them all but this some - feyre being like that's why luciens mum loves him so much, them all holding hands before the final battle, the bone carver looking at freyre before dying, tamlin telling feyre to be happy, amren leaving

I wish lucien wasn't gone for like half the book

very mixed feelings about tamlin like fuck him fr he's clearly got Issues but also him being there to help and help bring rhys back was very sweet

and also I feel bad for tamlin but I struggle to feel THAT bad in terms of like am I supposed to care that feyre ruined the trust he had with his ppl bc I don't. also he was so twatty during the meeting like omg how embarrassing

kinda need to know more about eris idk like am I supposed to like him or not I still don't really know

tbh I thought lucien was just more tan than his brothers bc the spring court gets a bit more sun than the autumn one 😭

I was worried that all the battling going on in the book would bore the shit out of me but for the most part I was really into it

what is the deal with lucien, elain and azriel like is elain gonna say fuck the bond and get with az? I could be swayed to root for either one of them tbh. azriel seems to be better for her so far tho, like he knows how to be there for her

I stg after the last book I was like damn where are the gay ppl and this book was like HERE are the gay ppl. not that this is like rep central but yknow

kinda don't know how I feel about mor not telling at least azriel idk bc part of me is like if you just tell him and be open I'm sure it'll be a bit awkward (especailly since you waited 500 years to do it instead of telling him ages ago) at first but in the long run it'll be way better and maybe he'll even understand why it was hard for her to tell him. and also everyone else would obvs be supportive of her. but also maybe az is the weird one for not just getting the hint and leaving her alone like if it was gonna happen by now it would have happened and the fact he's soooo protective of her still, in a way that shows how he truly feels, is like okay bro maybe leave her alone

there was a lot of names to remember and idk I defo got most of them down but some of them I'm like idk who you are I'm gonna be real. and miryam etc, I'm still not 100% clear on their story but honeslty it's fine, I understood it enough to not get too confused. I'll pay more attention if/when I reread

low-key feel like either rhys or amren (preferably amren) stayed gone like idk, both of them leaving/dying only to be brought back kinda takes something out of it I want STAKES sarah kill someone
