i have so many curious questions about the designs for each of your characters. like, home having big floaty cloud hair?? how do you decide/design them?
I always wanted to talk a sec about my Home's design lmAO so I guess I'll take a sec to do a lil ramble about him
Cw me ramblin my ass off HDHDHJD
Every time I make a design for a character, I always gotta look at everything about em in some way and try my best to implement each iconic aspect of them in their design- from minor to major differences
So like his head, his blue flow-y hair was inspired by his roof and what's underneath his building (that little black void with the swirl- it somehow translated to whispy curly hair in my lil noggin). His colors of his facial hair is obviously colored according to his normal version (red facial hair/brick, a yellow line for the door). I also wanted a way to implement his windows, cause it's a very iconic look for Home, so boom, g l a s s e s (I was gunna put bumps underneath the frames but it looked weird so I just gave him long ass lashes)
His stitched up body/outfit is mostly inspired by the armchair wally sits on that has a very noticeable Barnaby print in the back. Although iv never really drawn it, Home's pants have patches of every single character's skin on it (yes the spots for Barnaby and Howdy would be fluffy LMAO). And his shirt, although it doesn't look like much, the two color patches on his shoulders are color inspired by the trees behind him, and his sleeves obviously of the greenary around him. (also his race, Iv debated what athnicity he'd be since there were two (or three for both) to choose from (wally being afro-latino), and iv ultimately decided Latino, since a large part of my family is such and I know a lot more on that culture being born in it)
As for age? Home himself to me just f e e l s warm and comforting, he has big soft eyes and is literally a Home, so what kinda person makes you f e e l (likespiderman) like home while also being one? A more elderly figure, specifically that one elderly person you feel so comforted being at home with as a kid, smothered in love and happiness and never wanting to leave smhhh. I just wanted him to make you feel like at home whenever ya get a hug by him.
Also his relationship at first wasn't actually gunna be Wally's father, moreso just a guardian, but after he was done being colored and such (and I got a lotta comments sayin he looks like wally) I just went "f it" and made him wally's dadpa (nobody can really choose if it's father or grandfather- I say father since wally is a grown ass man, but other says grandpa cause home is so old looking lmAO, so he gets to be both).
I didn't want his relationship with wally to be anything NEAR negative, but rather a huge comfort and support Wally has with a guardian (yeah adults can live with their parents it ain't that weird). One of my biggest drives for it was cause Wally is heavily neurodivergent coded, and the last thing I wanted was to have a large scary figure in Wally's life terrify and heavily dictate Wally's choices to a point Wally is completely suffocated and extremely uncomfortable. Not only that but lock Wally inside refusing him to do what he wants and getting upset over the smallest things? Complete nightmare! Specially someone who's neurodivergent! Sure I like the suspense and drama in a alternative universe, but in the main one I'd rather not. At least for me anyway (as a neurodivergent whos gone through similar things).

OUTFIT EVOLUTION OF THE MAIN TEENS
(from June 2022 to August 2023)
I'm not only impressed with the amount of outfits i've drawn, but also how there's a huge shift on the most recent one bc it was the first time I decided to NOT use the base I made back in June 2022... really makes my own artistic evolution clearer
Like my art? Consider buying me a coffee!
Design notes of their newest outfits below ft. D00d
Tumblr media
pame's design notes
*SUDDEN APPEARANCE OF THE SUN -> WARM like never before -> WARM WEATHER outfits ONLY
Link:
Darker color scheme to reflect inner conflict
Less soccer-heavy themed clothes, but similar vibes to uniform
D00d:
Appearance mostly inspired by Scary
Completely blob of darkness except for eyes (and eyelashes)
Scary:
more pink = slight change of mindset
loose chains = lost connection to Willy (free-er)
Taylor:
more relaxed clothing, less adventure-y
additional note not included: slightly changed his cane design, specifically the handle to make it more realistic / accesible
Normal:
oversized clothing (feels like Teeny costume)
additional note not included: Tried to add Teeny's colors to his clothes, and in the evolution it's clearer how the colors slowly become more obvious as Normal finds self confidence / meaning

Assimilated Sonic
Everyone else is doing it so I couldn’t help it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I wanted it to give a very marionette vibe.
His personality would just be “another part of the system” simple and mostly to the point. This wouldn’t be permanent, there would be cracks, his cocky nature flares up sometimes. This can be comforting and creepy. Sometimes his cocky nature will manifest like a flamboyant silly snake like personality. Slow moving like a predator sneaking up on prey. Like speed can go from 1mph to 200mph in a second and it almost looks like he’s teleporting.
Whats creepier is he can go from calm and controlled to snakelike with no warning at all so you can never predict his movements.
Scary to fight, he will own you if it comes down to fist fighting. Ruthless when fighting.
His eyes look permanently wide open, and he does blink, he just does it so fast a normal eye can’t really see it unless they get lucky.
He can also hover like sage can. Just because he can doesn’t mean he does, he likes walking around on the ground, it makes him happy because of his love of running shining through.
The form on the first few images is a stable contained form, hence the glitching is only on his eyes hands shoes and those tear tracks. If he were to fight back against it enough/ his memories flare up it would start to spread again until he is “neutralized” once more. Sonic is always subconsciously fighting the system even if it doesn’t seem like it.
Assimilated Sonic has near full access to the machines and stuff on the island. Not all of it because Sage is playing it safe. The chaos emeralds would be very memory triggering to Sonic, so Sage keeps Sonic away from them.
I imagine his battle theme being a really slowed down techno cover of his world, like how Undertale took “your best friend” and slowed it to make “but nobody came”
Like this: https://youtu.be/dhj9K6Si4lk but slow it down to 0.5x speed, and you’ll get a good idea of what I mean. It would be familiar but distorted and wrong, but you would still hear the original positive notes of the song to show a kind of hope.
Also, an emotional moment would follow the same logic, a song like my dear friend might be played.
I was going to make the irises of his eyes red, but I found it was difficult to see amongst the glitch effect so that’s why they’re white. The same was briefly considered for the buckles but it drew attention away from the eyes so that was a no no. Believe it or not the tear tracks thing was not inspired by Sonic.exe but Error!Sans. Most of the original concept idea was directly inspired by everyone else’s (@smallpwbbles , @weirdozjunkary, @doodlebless, @misscloudiedays) designs too so I have to give credit. This isn’t my idea after all.
Edit: Now that Sonic frontiers is out i just want to say this was made based on the very little and vague information we had before the game came out. Most of which is now wildly outdated.
So is my comic:
I will be redesigning my assimilated Sonic to fit in more with the games rules:

Relics of a Digital Haven
some thoughts about an old MMO i used to play
>> Read on Neocities <<
---
During my adolesence I spent entirely too much time playing an MMO called Spiral Knights. A charming hack and slash with a delightful aesthetic, it holds a special place in my heart as many such formative virtual spaces do. Existing at the tail end of what may really have been the last vestiges of online games as social spaces, it is for many people a space in which they made lasting friendships, for some of us a space in which we first experimented with who we were. And not unlike those of us who shed facets of ourselves we found no longer fit in those digital realms—Spiral Knights like most games developed update to update—underwent similarly dramatic changes during the time I knew it.
Tumblr media
In 2011 Spiral Knights introduced a horror-themed level type called Candlestick Keep, an abandoned library haunted by the game's undead enemies. Unique to this level are the Grimalkins, a special kind of foe that serve to distinguish Candlestick's tone by circumventing the rules enemies in Spiral Knights normally have to follow. They can traverse through terrain as if it wasn't there, and ignore both weapons and shields, meaning the player can only flee from them. Also unique to Candlestick is a torch mechanic, where players light up safe zones these pursuers can't venture into, thus the level develops a specific eb and flow as you retreat to and from pockets of safety while solving puzzles. The result is an experience that by drawing light inspiration from Survival Horror games, exists in stark juxtaposition to the rest of Spiral Knights—it feels uniquely tense and nerve wracking.
Or at least, it did in the year it was introduced. In 2013 Spiral Knights received one of its largest updates, a major overhaul that among many other mechanics, introduced a dash to the player's moveset. Suddenly it became possible to simply dart through a grimalkin without consequence, and with this feature alone the scary atmosphere that once defined this set of levels totally dissipated. Playing through Candlestick Keep today is a strange and disjointed experience—a relic of a time when Spiral Knights was a different game.
Tumblr media
The Arcade is an area situated at the top of Haven, Spiral Knight's social hub. In the early days of the game's lifespan it was a bustling hub of activity as it served as the gateway into the levels that comprised the meat of Spiral Knight's content—and more than that the playerbase would actively fight over the arrangement of these levels by spending resources they could acquire while adventuring. This was an illustration of how, in its early days, Spiral Knights was designed around the idea that players should have a real material influence on the game world. But over the course of 2012 a series of updates introduced an entirely separate narrative progression players advanced through by participating in preset "Missions" that were accessed directly from the game's UI. This subsequently rendered the function of the arcade inert, with the random levels mostly serving as a novelty. And then in 2013 the same update that brought the dash to the game also removed the ability for players to influence level arrangement—which brings us to today, where the entire arcade sits abandoned at the edge of Haven—a relic of a time when Spiral Knight was a different game.
Of course at this point, Spiral Knights itself is a relic. Over a decade old now, very little remains of the original development team who have since left to other studios, and the playerbase has dwindled to but a tiny fraction of what it was in its heyday. As a result, much of the game's servers are totally empty. While the Arcade is abandoned by virtue of its vestigial design, the rest of Haven has been abandoned by the passage of time.
Tumblr media
There's a unique beauty to the remnants of manmades structures worn down by the passage of time. The melancholy of seeing their purpose erode, their foundations laid bare. They are relics of a time when the world was a different place. Over the past decade urban exploration has seen a huge explosion in popularity, whether it be those of us entering these concrete skeletons ourselves, or the proliferation of content online allowing anyone to experience those sensations vicariously. It's the drive to chase that emotion that motivates us to clamber into forgotten architecture as much as I suspect it also motivates the creation of post-apocalyptic media—we are entranced by the visage of ruin.
Online spaces however, don't age in the same way that those built of brick and mortar do. So as long as you can connect to them, they remain a window into a world from years ago, unchanged in all the time that's past. The abandonment of a physical space reflects in how it appears to the world—the abandoment of a digital space has no such influence, they are moments eternally etched into time.
Candlestick Keep is according to the blog post that accompanied its introduction, "the remnants of the once prosperous Owlite Academy, now overrun by undead horrors". It is literally a constructed haunted mansion, put together by developers to make you feel scared. But that's all it ever was, a construction. A spooky video game level made to be haunted by spooky video game monsters, it was never really a place, it never actually got abandoned.
Tumblr media
Haven however, is supposed to be a communal hub. Its a bright cheerful place players used to socialize within. But as you stand in it today—this space so obviously built for people—you are keenly aware that you stand alone. The city hasn't changed in all these years... but the people are gone. Only Haven itself remains—a relic from when Spiral Knights was a different game.

How would you go about designing fusions?
Like, I think my design for Razor looks more silly than scary (mainly the beak face why are beaks so hard) and I don't know if it fits with the rest of them.
Im honestly not 100% sure about the process of how I do it! 😭 I guess I just do?????? But I’ll try my best to explain my thought process even if it might be what you were already thinking/doing
I think mostly what I do is look for very prominent features on the Pokémon first, like for example, the legs of a Zoroark, its claws, and its face markings. That, and its ears. I also take notice of how on some parts of the body there’s longer fur jutting out of places like the elbows or the hips. With Mutt, who to be honest I haven’t made art of in a long time but I don’t feel the need to change him that much, I just compiled all of the features I thought defined the Pokémon and found ways to incorporate them into/onto the human body.
With Alexandra (Dragonite girl) I took the antenna, wings, and big tail as main points of the design I wanted to incorporate into her and found ways I liked it. I used them in pretty basic ways, but I did replace her ears with miniature Dragonite wings as well, as I was inspired by some art (of which I don’t know the fandom of) where there were bird-people with wings for ears.
If a Pokémon has distinct legs I will incorporate those by replacing the human legs entirely, and if the Pokémon has claws I’ll replace their fingernails with those instead. Pretty basic stuff though
I think almost all of the fusions that I’ve posted about so far aside from Parasect Girl have tails too, so that’s a little funny to me.
Also, I don’t always make every Pokémon part completely proportionate to the human body, with a certain fusion that will go unnamed, instead of shrinking fhe Pokémon’s “tail” to be how a normal sized tail would be for a human, I made the tail big and thick, which would no doubt get in the way of normal living, but that’s one thing that’s consistent with most all of the fusions. It disturbs their ability to live “like a normal human would” even if they tried their hardest.
Fusions can also take away senses and disable you to some degree. Like for example, Parasect Girl has extremely low vision and relies mostly on hearing to tell where things are/what’s happening. As a result her hearing has gotten very very good.
I think my main thing when designing fusions is that I’m not afraid/hesitant to make their bodies impractical/take away vital limbs for living/adding limbs that actively inhibit them. If you got your legs replaced with a dogs or a birds, wouldn’t you feel disoriented too?
One fusion I made also has a beak, a tentacruel fusion, but for that one I ended up making the squid beak act as weird lips. The actual “beak” design parts on the tentacruel ended up going other places, like jutting out of her arms.
ALSO another thing I like to do is spare no expense when it comes to adding details. Fuck “over designing” do what you want forever. Though that doesn’t mean that designs can’t get incomprehensible, it’s a somewhat delicate process (I guess??? It comes easy to me so I’m not sure.) ANYWAYS if you see an empty spot on the body and you’re not sure if you want it to stay empty or not, go ham and try out as many things as you want until you’re happy with it!! It might take a bit but what doesn’t when it comes to character design?
For a clearer example that might show my line of thinking more, I’ll generate a random Pokémon and brainstorm what a human fusion of it might look like.
Okay so I generated a Pokémon and I swear to god
Tumblr media
SLUGMA BA- [gets shot]
This one is a little difficult since it doesn’t have too many distinct details if you just look at it at a glance.
let’s list off some features of it first!
Okay, so: Yellow pointed eyes, antenna like features coming from the head, very goopy, and also RED.
Also taking into account how hot the temperatures slugma gives off.
So. Let’s take a human, and try to fuse them together. More often than not when I get a pre-evolution fusion, I make them a child/just generally a younger person. However I think that for this we’ll just go with no age in particular.
So! First, I think the extreme temperatures wouldn’t fuse well with the human body, it would make them very melty/goopy. I would likely add little drips of their skin at their lips, and maybe even take away their legs in their entirety. Maybe they could just be a torso and melty pile of searing hot goop/flesh/magma beneath them? I think i would make it magma just to keep more of the Pokémon incorporated into the design. I would make the whites of the eyes yellow, make their eyes a more almond/pointed shape, and their irises either black or piercing bright red.
I think their hands would be a little goopy as well. Perhaps their hair would be melting/dripping over their head/face or maybe even acting similar to those visual heatwaves you see when it’s super hot outside! Now for someone who is literally searing hot and melting, I don’t think they would have any resemblance of clothes, but since their body is so melty, I don’t think it’d matter to be covered up too much. I think at some point as the flesh melts and drips off, it turns into magma. It’ll never be anything but complete magma when it falls off of the fusions body unless you actively take it off. (Looking at you FUSE. He’d probably be very curious how they’d taste.).
I think they’d have fire jutting out of their forehead in the shape of the fire antenna, or maybe it’d be their hair instead standing up and waving like flames in a strange way. I think they’d leave a constant burn/melting trail behind them, melting the floors as they slug around, and melting anything if they get too close. They’d likely have to be fed/given water similar to water tribe prisoners in ATLA (That one girl who taught Katara blood bending). Speaking of water, I don’t think they’d be able to get anywhere near it, it would hurt them severely, but that would mean they couldn’t drink water whatsoever. Maybe they don’t need water to live? Would they even have blood anymore? Or would it have all been boiled out of their body? Questions like these, questioning how Pokémon anatomy/natures would pair with humans/human behaviours is also important to designing fusions for me. I’m not sure exactly how important it is for it, but it’s definitely a part of what I think about when designing fusions.
Let’s try another shall we?
Tumblr media
Wartortle! This is a nice design.
Something I immediately take notice of is the feathery ear like projections out of its head, along with its feathery tail. Boom, replace their ears with the feathery protrusions, and give them their feathery tail. I think their hair would also look similar to their ear protrusions, a wavy ocean look. Their arm hair, if they have any, would probably look the same, same for their leg hair. Wartortle’s also got white claws coming out of its hands, so those go onto the humans hands as well.
Then of course there’s the shell. You could make it look like a weird backpack, but that’s not something I would do personally. Especially since I’d want them to have the ability to hide in their shell. I would make the shell larger than their body, which would probably limit their movement quite significantly. Now about the front of the shell, I’m not sure how that would work out. If it’s proportionate to the back of the shell, then that would limit their movement even more. But if we strike a good balance of size, they can still move around decently while still being able to hide away in their shell. Now I like that a lot better. Their mouth would likely be wider than normal human mouths, and they would have decently sharp canines poking out of their lips. Their eyes would also be decently slanted and red, or atleast instead of slanted, would be in a permanent “im pissed off” look.
Okay so I actually really like the Wartortle concept a lot so I think I’ll keep them. TEEHEE >:3c
Oh yeah! Also another thing, specifically with Momo, is that Furfrou’s ears are pretty large/long compared to their head, so I exaggerated that to an extreme for her, making them go down to her middle-upper leg.
ALSO when it comes to clothes, pretty much all of the fusions have clothes that they wear, even if it’s just a shirt (See Mutt and Momo.). Unless it’s a Slugma fusion situation, they will pretty much always have atleast one article of clothing. I don’t put distinguishable human nudity in any of the fusions, the closest you’d get to that is Mutt if he didn’t have a shirt on, or like I mentioned, the Slugma Fusion.
I hope this helped literally at all!!!!!!!! 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 I’m not even sure if this made sense in any way at all aside from the impromptu fusion design brainstorming

Also new guy dropped
Hi it's 2:47 am and I'm about to fall asleep so. If this is poorly written uh 👍👍👍
His name is Ven (or vey I havent and decided) and is the crow to my good dear limts nevermore.
Theyre roommates (ambiguous) 👍
Was supposed to be an arbiter of th3 h3at but honeycomb man is funnier (what's was I sewing uhhhh yeah just think of it as his day off honeycomb Hawaiian shirt and a fucking fur collar(
This is all my brain will spit out rn idk if someone from discord wants ikl answer questions about them (too top ahit 2 answer twhrw mm)
Tfw when you're on your way to striaght up exterminate a star of the city and some random ass fixer is there before uou and kills it. So you ask them on a date and proceed ro haunt tyem so deeply that a knock at the door puts fear into their heart. But tbf it already did that in the first place. Hey maybe ask tyem how the whole 'find my dear friendlenore's missing body' is going on . Sure would suck if a wing or smthn had it man. Anyways what's your relation to the pianist incident and the reverb ensemble.
Would suck if they joined some ragtag company to try and escape every dingle knock at their door only for them to eventually confront it with a clock like. Damn. Sucks to suck but at least they partially manifested their ego before joining the company. Hey I wonder who their scyth3 is a reference to and the whole 'violet somgbird' nickname. Oh the wonders of the city
More about lint (Celeste soliayre, my limbus oc)
-
Grew up backstreets district 9. Was like. Vaguely aware of roland and angelica. And also fond of them.
- manages to get a job as a fixer (they're like. 20 ish here) and goes into I course nest for a contract their office made.
- sucks to suck penist shows up. You know how that goes
- straight uo fucks off from their job to go towards the pianist (mostly getting people out of the way so they aren't music slammed)
- not fast enough to kill that thang (does watch it die tho so. Yeahg)
- they do pass by arugula afterwards. He's doing 👍
- heavily scarred and "inspired and enlightened" by the incident that it shows up in their own personal ego ,(some sorta thang I gotta design that goes around their neck) normally uses scythe as their base weapon but decided to go with a short range close combat weapon for limbus because they're bad at it.
- absolutely miracle this fucker hasn't distorted by now. Broke into tye library to trade info and then got booked six or something times (you gotta figure out how to unhook people no way that lady did it naturally first try when they let everyone out of the libraby)
- got in contact with an arbiter (bee guy) and gave whatever info they had because man. Theyrr not fighting him.(moreso they just fucking appeared at their doorstep and they had no choice but to answer)
-starts going up in ranks. Like a pretty good grade 2 almost grade one but trying hard as hell not to become a color (every color they know is a sicko. Sad sandwich man? Murder violence spree. Blue sicko? His emo band. Violet tear? The fucking orphanage. The red gaze? Divorced energy)
- straight up quits being a fixer for "unknown reasons" to join limbus. Also goes missing for like. 6 months before this.
- with their ego is does rely on them using parts of their voice as something to physically attack with (pianist 2 : small edition)
-theyre like. Tsundere but not. Like normal enough but also very easily embarrassed and lies about almost everything. An honest opinion out of them is 1 rare 2 scary as hell please lie again you were nicer then
Literally just Blue sicko 2: remixed .
The 'I'm (not) normal. I'm so so (not) normal 🫠👍👍👍👍👍" vibe

I got inspired this morning and decided to make some concepts to inspire others with!
Trigger warning for the following: Body horror via mouths. Intentionally trypophobic imagery via eyes. A mention of cannibalism, though no actual portrayal of such. And finally, an ink creature. This art is intended to be a form of horror art, even if it seems mild (and please don’t complain if it’s not scary enough to you).
Yes I know you can put trigger warnings in the tags, but I also like to be upfront if not a little blatant. I’m not one to take risks when it comes to accidentally triggering someone.
With all that out of the way, I created some concept doodles for Vexed (or otherwise Uproar-afflicted) Sackpeople! I love playing around with the idea of them and they are a thing that is (very) relevant to the plot of my AU. I’ve seen a couple others' ideas for Vexed Sackfolk, but I wanted to throw in my own ideas of what they would look like visually. Feel free to save this image and use it as inspiration, reference, or even to show your friends (please don’t remove the credit at the top if you do)! As well as that, please do throw in your own ideas, designs, and additions to what I’ve already made! I would love to see what you all make of this :]
Tumblr media
Image description: Six sketches depicting Sackpeople with unusual, uncanny, or downright scary traits. At the top of the image there is writing saying "all of these concepts CAN be combined". The first (top left) one's mouth and zip intersect, causing the zip to function as part of their mouth. It's vaguely reminiscent of a creature from Stranger Things, or an SCP. The writing at the side says "zip extends into/is part of mouth (kinda looks like an scp tbh)", then "probably the spookiest one here", "imagine this thing trying to bite you". The second (top middle) Sackperson has a second mouth between their chest and belly, inspired by the Impostor from Among Us. They have an angry or hungry (hangry?) expression and are slightly hunched over. The writing says "among us impostor (i'm serious the concept goes hard)", "would probably eat another sackling if vex wanted them to", and then "imagine the terror when they succumb to the uproar and their chest/belly opens up into a new mouth". The third (top right) Sackling is a confused looking werewolf. The writing says "uproar induced therianthropy* (the uproar turns them into an animal)" (at the bottom of the page there is "*the mythological condition, not the identity"), "looks cute but will probably rip someone to shreds", and then "doesn't necessarily have to be lycanthropy/werewolves". The fourth (bottom left) Sackperson has 12 eyes, 7 on their face and 5 on their chest. This design is intended to evoke trypophobia, which is defined as the fear of clustered holes, though in my experience it can extend to any cluster of circular shapes. The writing says "eyes.", "you cannot beat them in a staring contest", "yippie trypophobia", and then "they could be spies. the eyes of vex. think about it". The fifth (bottom middle) Sackling looks mostly normal, save for their full set of teeth which is reminiscent of Bob Velseb from Spooky Month. The writing says "teeth.", "idk about you I think sackpeople with full sets of teeth can look really uncanny (not always, but enough to include it here)", and then "I may be a little inspired by spooky month". The sixth and final (bottom right) Sackperson is covered in liquid Uproar, which resembles tar or black ink. It also leaks from their eyes and mouth. The writing says "goop/ink", "I was thinking of flight rising but you could also say bendy and the ink machine", "liquid uproar everywhere. very messy. they have an easy time spreading it though", and then "screw the stereotypes. be edgy. we are cringe but we are free", the latter of which I think sums up this entire post.

Back with Ramshackle residents
After 7 (or is it 9 considered the dwarfs OB) overblot, Yueme was able to work now that everyone is gone back home for the summer, so them and Grim go to another disney dimension to hang out (mostly Grim) and to earn money. Mizuki and Yueme reunited during Yueme's workplace: House of Mouse
During summer, the next semester was coming. Yueme wanted to change their hairstyle but can't since their hair is now short.
Yueme: Hey, Mizuki?
Mizuki: *chilling at the lounge, designing the Ramshackle dorm uniform* Mizuki: Yeah? What's up?
Yueme: Can you use your powers to change a bit for my hair? I kind of want my hair to be a bit longer.
Mizuki: No problem. How long do you want it to be?
Yueme: By my ears.
Tumblr media
Mizuki: Okay
Mizuki: All done! You look just like your old self again
Yueme: Thank you, Mizuki.
Mizuki: No problem, Housewarden.
Tumblr media
Yueme: Wait, why I'm I the Housewarden? Shouldn't it be you?
Mizuki: I don't see myself as a leader. Besides, you and Grim were the first ones to reestablish Ramshackle, and the ghosts are more like your own personal tutors.
Yueme: I only ask the ghosts when I'm having trouble with my assignments. Though, I do see them as family members.
Mizuki: I can see that, too. Now I got the official papers for the headmage. The designs for the dorm uniform are still in process. And lastly, I'm planning to find a way to get your magic back.
Tumblr media
Mizuki: *holding a pen*
Mizuki: Yueme, you and Grim will become two students instead of two in one students. Making you to be the Housewarden, Grim as a normal student and me as the Vicewarden.
Tumblr media
Mizuki: I also have access to the JP server, so will know what events would be coming to the ENG server.
Yueme: So is like we're living at the west while the others are at the east?
Mizuki: Kind of like that.
The two of them kept talking of new ideas for the dorm, like changing to a new name since it was no longer damaged. Details for the dorm uniform, a new bow for Grim, new capes for the trio ghosts, adding telephones so that they won't shout out their names, planting trees for the front yard, the list goes on!
Yueme: So, how long will it take for the new Halloween event? I'm actually surprised that two new characters are inspired by a fox and cat from Pinocchio movie.
Mizuki: I'm the opposite, I know the movie well that it traumatized me back in my previous life. I can only hope for "that one place" does not exist here in Twisted Wonderland.
Yueme: Don't tell me, a demon prince is scared of a child's movie? 😏
Mizuki: Oh? I can actually get the movie so we can all watch it. Then let's see if it'll scare you and Grim.
Tumblr media
Yueme: I'll go get the snacks ready. I'll ask the ghosts if they want to watch
Mizuki: Sounds good to me. Hehe hehe
Meanwhile
Grim: *At Yueme's room, coloring on their coloring book*
Grim: Why do I feel like something scary is going to happen?

Part 2.5 of the Fakémon region, this time it is the Goofy Ah regional birbs.
They are based primarily of sage grouse, with an added musical theme including an otamatone to inspire the body shape of the first form, which gave me the idea of the deceptive mimicry of the omatone’s face being a way to scare away predators. The second evolution kind of ended looking like a grackle inadvertently. I mostly used sheet music alongside the sexual dimorphism of adult sage grouse for the final forms. I not to confident on the final product and will definitely have to re-do these guys later.
Grush (Grouse+Brush), Centrouse (Centrocercus+Grouse), Gularlek (Gular+Lek)
Centrocercus=The genus name for the Sage Grouse
Gular=An area of featherless skin on certain bird’s neck (the sacs you see in both the design and the reference).
Lek=The maiting behavior/ritual that certain animals do, such as sage grouse.
About the only thing Grush does is it pretends to be a wad of dead sagebrush in it’s nest and try to scare away predators with it’s fake face if they get to close. They make sounds several registers above what most humans and other Pokémon can here to signal to their parents, with every nest making an individualized sound (I believe penguins do something similar to this? Blend that into the inspiration).
Centrouse, especially the males, are noted as being particularly raucous a noisy where practicing mating displays, leading to populations being culled or re-located away from human settlements.
The sound that male Gularlek make during their mating display is commonly associated with romance in the culture of the region (perhaps an exclusive ability that makes all sound based moves have a chance to infatuate?). The females, who are not adapt at making sound, use their gular sacs to carry water over arid desert to their chicks (inspired the Old World Sand Grouse, also I know that’s probably not how those sacs anatomically in the real world but that’s how they work here).
I made it Normal/Flying due to the fact Normal is used as the most frequent stand in for a “Sound” type, which does not exist (even though like 75% of the other route one birds are also Normal/Flying). I also noticed that their is a notable lack of Special Stat-focused early route birds (outside of Kilowattrel unless that’s not the Early Route bird for SV, I haven’t play it yet). A high Special Attack should give these guys a bit of extra punch while using Hyper Voice or Boomburst.
Despite being doubtful on the rest of the design, I really like how the shinies turned out (it’s inspired by the color of sagebrush). I might just make this the default color scheme for any future re-works. I was originally going to base it off Mightyena’s color scheme because the scary face on Grush is specifically inspired by Mightyena due to it being a common carnivore in the environments it is native to.

Powders PokeGang
Okay so I actually am having a really hard time to bringing my team down to 6. Part of the issue is that Gen 9 brought a lot of designs that I like. But there are a lot of older mon I also really really like. So I'm gonna have to make some choices. That being said the first mon on this list is an evolution of my favorite pokemon that made me love it even more so to start off the list
Anhilape (Fighting/ghost)
Tumblr media
From an early age our system wan enamored with Mankey, especially Ash's Mankey from the anime. Primeape was a pretty cool evolution of the concept. It was mostly a bigger mankey with bigger muscles but it worked. Monkey's are a favorite animal of mine. In part due to the fact Monkey was a nickname for us growing up. It was associated with our deadname but despite our dislike for that name, Monkey is still a name that bring us joy. Anhilape is a fantastic evolution of primeape, keeping the basic core concepts while also going through a larger transformation then its previous chain. The wild flowing hair, the angry grumpy look(That also kind of looks tired and adorable) the way the fur looks like shaggy wisps. And one of the best details, it lost one of the bands on it's wrist and the other one broke, it's just overflowing with power. Not to mention it's signature move, Rage Fist, is such a fun and powerful concept.
2) Sharpedo (Water/Dark)
Tumblr media
I think sharks are cool, I think explosions are cool, it's a shark torpedo. Whats not to love. I love it's aggressive yet adorable face, it's pointy teeth. Sharks are an animal that multiple members of the system love, Princess and I especially. Plus it has such smooth skin. 3) Mimikyu (Ghost Fairy)
Tumblr media
Mimikyu is scary and adorable, it's powerful, it's lonely, and misunderstoodd. I love the child like doodle on it's disguise. Mimikyu reminds me a lot of my memories from my source. I would love a plush one that I could hold on days when I feel especially bad. Maybe one day.
4) Grafaiai (Poison/Normal)
Tumblr media
Another monkey like pokemon. While called the Toxic Monkey pokemon it's actually has visual inspiration from Lemur(especially the Aye aye) and the Slow Loris. It is also inspired by graffiti artist, hence the wicked cool eyes, and the bright colors on its fingers. It is such an adorable mischievous little creature. Strong Contender for favorite mon. 5) Farigiraf (Normal/Psychic)
Tumblr media
Girafarig was a pokemon I hadn't thought too much about. It was cute but never my favorite. It's evolution however is super cool looking while also adorable. The way the heads have combined give it two super cute/cool looks. When the second head is open, you can see the adorable face of the first and it looks Cozy in a Hoodie. When the second head closes its mouth, it looks a bit alien, mysterious and cool. It's a bit spooky but not too spooky. Alright before we get to number 6 I just want to say this last pick was the hardest choice. I had 5 Pokemon I was considering. I could easily see myself switching them out depending on the challenge or what. But I have to have 6 so here we go 6) Infernape (Fire/fighting)
Tumblr media
HAD TO DO IT TO EM TRIPLE MONKEY. Okay so Infernape is another one of my favorite pokemon. I am a big fan of Sun Wukong and characters and concepts inspired by him. I also find it interesting how Infernape I feels sort of out of place on the rest of my team which as a darker feel to it. Infernape brings some much needed warmth. So while I do have some favorite types(Ghost, Fire, Fighting, Dark, electric you know spooky types and types that *POP*) my team was picked with not really thinking of typings in mind but rather the individual pokemon without much else in mind. So I want to talk about the 4 honorable mentions that could Have taken Infernapes place. 1) Tinkaton- This new mom is an adorable little menace and I would love to come up with schemes with it. 2) Mr.Mime- I have a love of mimes and clowns so Mr.Mime just seemed fitting, Mr.Mime is actually probably the least likely one to have made it on the final team. That doesn't mean I don't like him, but yeah. 3) Vikavolt- Vikavolt would have been my electric representation on the team and it actually shared a quality with sharpedo. They are both animals that have modern weaponry as a design influence.
4) Gengar- Gengar is the OG Ghost pokemon. I's design is simple yet perfect, chubby little ghost. Would also be on the Menace squad with Tinkaton , Grafaifai and Mimikyu. Probably had the highest chance alongside Tinkaton to make it

Decided to post these seperetly so i can rant on each one. Hope you like it :) i really do
Rant and alt backround version behing the read more:
Tumblr media
So the full backround ended up accidentely bisexual lol. Now on to the rant, these are meant as the final forms in my magical girl au, that's why they are so extra. This design has a lot more red than usual because being the final battle theres a lot more rage and hate (i think late season Scary in mg au has a lot more blue accents to symbolize love), and her hair is blue to show the love side as well as her fire (plus blue fire is much hotter than normal fire). I wanted her shoes to have a lava/lava lamp effectvand i initially made them a more purple pink but i think the magenta is better (the more pinkish then reddish tones also symbolize how she has come to accept her past as a more girly girl). Her coat has the coat from the previous design but i also added doodler like eyes (as i did in all the final forms) as a nod to them parting with D00d but them still being influential and important. The tentacles on her came, ger shoes and her arms are also a dodler refrence. I think with these designs i went more dnd like so she looks like a fantasy warlock a bit or at least that was my intention. The metal on her top is black parade inspired. And her whole silhouette is inspired by manta rays. I also added a lot of spikes and chains (mostly cause I think they're cool), i really enjoy outting her into more "evil" looking costumes in this au, but also generally (a big pet peeve of mine is charakter healing and losing their alt-ness) so yeah hope you like this little rant :) as always i put a lott of thought and symbolism of these outfits lol.
Btw if you want to support me financially and get some cool art out of it my commissions are open :)

Miracoro 11/2023 reviews
I wish more works broke out of the "cool overdesigned mc and normal kid with bonkers reactions" mold, but I suppose that's the easy way to start a story.
Vampred: Vampire/zombie story. Most of the chapter was showing off the main character Sol, who's a very nice lad with a cool design. He's got artificial limbs, is malewife material, is unfailingly polite, is half-vampire, has a tragic backstory about being tortured by humans, and yet still believes that they deserve his protection. Not sure about that one, chief. The mc's engineered perfection made a lot more sense once I found out the author is the Bitch Cop Ass guy.
Yamikiri Giri: god i miss doctor dokuta. This feels like a good candidate for its successor. It starts off in the middle of action, which is unusual to see with these oneshots. The protag Giri is the polar opposite of the previous guy, and he may actually be an adult? I had a lot of fun reading this one.
Mikazuki: Basically, "what if Maya channeled Phoenix to solve cases?" The culprit actually came as a surprise. It's definitely a Takahashi-sensei work, and it definitely feels inspired by Ace Attorney. I enjoyed it, but not sure if it's the best pick for serialization. It's the only one that made me actually gasp, though.
Monoshiro: Moves along really fast and therefore wasn't left with time for it to sink in. The premise is lacking. Again, cool designs though.
Gatlin: Great action but lacks substance. The sidekick this time is a girl, which I'll gladly take.
Iroha: Karuta... with a CATBOY. Absolute winning premise. The mc Iroha has almost no knowledge of the poems but has extreme reflexes that let him react to the opponent's movements. The art's pretty intense too. Now this could be interesting if expanded upon.
Monster Parent: Pretty good gag manga. The mc's mom is a literal monster who doesn't get that she's seen as a monster. She orally lays eggs in the supermarket to help her look for curry, because the staff are busy and she doesn't want to bother them. Heck of a sentence.
Shinigami Happy End: Very fresh take to have a shinigami whose primary item is trash bags. The modern reaper is a garbage collector. And he's also a tumblr sexyman who goes from main blorbo form to smexy skinny legend. Kind of scary. Kobayashi-sensei popped OFF with the art. The climax spread is actually *abstract* rather than a physical finishing blow, and it rules.
Sonata: Kinda like Inazuma Eleven GO but with a music club. Featuring instrument avatars. The mc Sonata is not a good musician at all but he's dedicated, so that makes up the difference. It breaks the formula slightly by having a whole club instead of one sidekick, and the mc doesn't already have awakened powers.
Seira: A rich girl's awakening to ramen. It's slower-paced than the others, so the flavor soaks in. Even as a one-shot it's nice.
Kamikakushi: Again mostly action-based, but it could easily pivot to part-mystery. We're getting a lot of girl primary characters in this volume, that's really neat. This time the mc has hammerspace hair. The enemy was decently freaky too.
Kamibukuro Hunter: The art style for the kid in this one is kinda... "how to draw anime". It's bizarre. But she can still emote as befits a gag manga. The premise is kinda one-note here.
Gudegudevil: Gag manga about a pet devil trying to dissuade a kid from doing homework but it's too lazy itself to succeed. Not too exciting.
Isekai Boukensha: It's an isekai. And this time, the protag's an 11yo with a wooden stick. Not my thing.
Onigiri: Gag body humor with a sentient onigiri. Feels kinda mundane, or maybe I'm just worn out by the end of all these pilots.
Top three that I think have potential for more: Yamikiri Giri, Iroha, Monster Parent

Fox’s Universe
So I decided that I am having way to much fun with this ranting into the void format so I will continue by describing the overall world that our cast inhabits.
To lay some groundwork we our located on Earth, this needs to be specified due to aliens existing and my character is one of them, currently in the campaign it is 2022 due to weird scheduling shit. The first session took place, in universe, in 2020 and Covid did not happen. The key things to know about Earth in the campaign are as follows: The Meta Gene- Think of this like the X-Gene from X-Men or the Meta Gene form DC and you get the picture. Basically every 1 in 100,000 people have this gene giving them SUPER POWERS! It is important to set this up due to this leading to the founding of... The I.B.M.A- Standing for the International Bureau of Metahuman Affairs. Whilst there were/ are other agencies similar to the I.B.M.A. it is arguably the most important. For most of the campaign our group was working for/ with the I.B.M.A. until its recent disbanding. Before they disbanded they were kind of shady assholes but assholes with authority that inspired many of the villains of our world including some P.C. villains. To sum up the I.B.M.A. would either hire metas or lock them up with basically no trial and after they got shut down things have gotten a little more hectic recently. Universal Vessels- Basically the universe has six (I think? Fox will let me know.) fundamental forces that make up the Mask’s universe and each force has a designated vessel to contain excess energy and enact their force’s will. I will describe each force and their vessel in posts designated for each force. The Zela Ray- This is where I am forced to describe a bit of Tilia’s backstory. Hailing from the planet Androlus the Zela Ray are a militaristic terrorist group that wished to liberate the oppressed lower cities of Androlus. An unfortunate side effect of this is now they have a bit of a might makes right type mentality and have a thing for purging their weak. Oh and yeah they are actively on their way to Earth. In order to help everyone understand how scary they are all Anlans, Anlans being short for my characters species, can shapeshift and have telepathic capabilities. This without mentioning Anlan technology.  Other then those key things there are of course other various groups of interest with varying power levels. Most recently the group to watch out for that I will close with is...
THE CRIMSON YOKAI!-  These are a relatively recent faction but one with wide reaching influence and some powerful fucking members. From what our, non-dickhead, P.C.s have gathered it is mostly run and managed by Percy Green. Yeah... so if you read the main post you may remember Percy and that I called him an asshole... this is why. Even though, technically, Percy is not the official leader he does most of the organizational stuff. This is why the Yokai is so dangerous by the way. Due to a P.C. going full villain this group has the brain power of a PLAYER CHARACTER. Normally that would make the group fucking useless but Percy has BIG BRAIN! OH, and if that wasn’t enough Percy is one of those fucking vessels I talked about earlier, specifically the vessel for ,what I call the bullshit force, Cosmic. Basically so far the Yokai has publicly destroyed every Meta Human Regulation Agency and key Government buildings across the world. To the point that a literal impending alien invasion is our group’s secondary concern. With all of that out of the way I think this post should help bring some of the over all world into focus for everybody. Oh one last thing the Multiverse is real in our campaign and I will not even fucking touch upon that anymore then I have. Thank you for indulging me even if you wish you hadn’t.

Heads and Three Tales - Foundation Art and Design Final Project 2022
Story Telling
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For a choose your own adventure story, you have to know some elements of how those are put together. Choose your own adventure stories are games and they can exist in a video format or just written. I am someone who enjoys playing video games and enjoy reading classic literature so why not combined the two.
The games I have chosen all have one thing in common, they all have choose-your-own-adventure aspects. It is actually main feature of the game. For some it is more prominent, for example, in Plague Inc, you make the choices on how your virus or fungus infects the world and what symptoms it gives people. In games such as Red Dead Redemption 2, your choices affect the way the other characters in the world interact with you – if you are nice, people will not be afraid of you, if you are horrible, people will be scared of you AND you are more likely to be hunted down.
For the two books, Romeo and/or Juliet and Of Mice and Men, I was inspired in different ways. In Romeo and/or Juliet, the tone of the narrator is very casual and funny at times. It is something that really stood out to me whenever I decided to read the book. I wanted to be capture this element of playfulness in my work too – it is not completely serious, I am playing with you. However, I say I want to be fun and play a game with you but I am also someone who is very dramatic. I like adding darker elements to my work. A book that I have always loved is Of Mice and Men. People who have read the book will agree with me when I say that something that stands out the most is the ending where George kills Lennie while Lennie is not paying attention. I knew that I wanted to force my reader into making a decision like the one George made to add some drama to this project. I wanted it to be more of a personal experience than just and art work.
Aesthetics, style and colour palettes
Tumblr media
I have noticed as my time as an artist that I like a darker aesthetic but I do not want to fully remove colour. I like having pops of colour appearing on designs here and there. I used Arcane as a reference because it has a very unique style and I am, frankly, obsessed with it. I love the texture on the faces of the characters, they are not airbrushed. They also look stylised enough for them to be more interesting than a normal human face – the bright hair colour and the big eyes are an example of this. Moreover, there is one character in the show, Jinx, who has a very distinct style that I wanted to incorporate into my work. Jinx always covered anything that she owns with brightly coloured doodle. This links back to the idea of adding in pops of colour in a mostly dark colour palette. It makes it stand out so much more.
When looking at character design I like the more mature look but not too realistic – I want that element of cartoon. I want my characters to have this look but also not be too scary. This is where the character of Mono from Little Nightmares ll comes into play. Little Nightmares ll is a dark game with little to no colour and a horror element. However, I find Mono to be very cute to look at even if he is faceless (for the majority of the game). Vanny from Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach is the complete opposite to Mono. Her bunny costume with her glowing red eyes is very unsettling and when I first saw her, I’ll be honest, she did frighten me. The way she acts in the game is what interested me. She has a playful element to her – dancing and skipping around the pizza plex before she spots you and comes running after you. I want to mix these two together, the cute and the frightening, to create my own faceless character.
When I picked these references I was not really focused on style but more the portrayal of gender and character. Uzui Tengen from the manga/anime Demon Slayer, is a tall, extremely muscled man who is a strong fighter. He is also obsessed with his appearance and loves to look ‘flamboyant’ and wants to be seen by everyone. On the other side of the spectrum we have Ryūnosuke Akutagawa from Bungou Stray Dogs, a character who is frail and would not like to be seen but is still a strong fighter. I like that these two characters have in common is the fact that they are both incredibly strong but in their own ways. I know that I want to have two characters that look the completely opposite of each other and yet could still hold their ground in their own ways.
As for Kaoru Sakurayashiki (also known as ‘Cherry Blossom’) from SK8: the Infinity, is a character that I instantly loved when I first saw him. Yes, him! The ambiguity of Cherry’s gender is something that I believe is done on purpose. As a non binary person, I am always happy to see some representation even if it is never outspokenly said. I know that I want to also make of of my characters, if not all, gender ambiguous to make sure everyone of all identities can feel included and seen
Tumblr media
I chose a very specific style for my sketchbook which I knew I wanted to display as well. I wanted include as much as possible when it came to the journey of this project. I am a manga lover for many reasons, however one of my favourite reasons will have to be the extra comics that these artists make. I love seeing pictures of characters interacting even though they technically never met in the main running storyline. I think it adds so much more character to them. When I read one of my favourite manga/anime Haikyū!!, a story about a boy who wants to become a volleyball player, I noticed how many characters actually never met each other in the main story. However, in all of the mini comics you would find in the cover of the volumes and small doodles the artist and author Haruichi Furudate, you would think the whole cast knew each other! I loved the fact that this artist made characters who would never meet interact with each other and it was the driving force behind my sketchbook – draw character design processes and make them look like best friends.
I want to do a choose-your-own-adventure format because it is a great way to tell people messages. For example, a choose-your-own-adventure story was used to analyse people’s attachment to other people through the means of a dating story. Or analysing how adults with potential autism react. Choose-your-own-adventure stories can be used in many, many ways and that’s why I find them so much fun. They can be an innocent game of trying to get Romeo and Juliet to meet or something more real like conceptualising depression in children – a very real, very serious issue.
I want to have parts of real life in my stories. I want to make the reader actually feel something for these characters. I want them to want to befriend them, or betray them. I know that I want to focus on a more imaginative one – like zombies for example. But also have something more real like a pandemic or a nuclear war. I want to add some realism into this but also keep it fun and not too serious. It is just a game. However, even if it is just a game, I still want to make the reader think and reflect on what they have just experienced.

More scary waters, by popular demand!
Since my last post ranking bodies of water really, really blew up, I decided to make a second. Some of these were suggested by people (in which case I’ll credit them), and some were just ones that didn’t quite make the cut for the first list.
I’ll also be doing a third list ranking the most toxic bodies of water in the world, so stay tuned for that.
Also, keep in mind that these aren’t ranked by how dangerous they are. They’re ranked by how scary I, personally, find them. So if the rating seems off, it’s due to which ones inspire a visceral reaction in me and which ones don’t.
Silfra Rift, Iceland
Tumblr media
This one is something that I actually find very beautiful rather than scary, but it still seems like something that others might be freaked out by. The Silfra Rift is the point where the Eurasian and North American continental plates are pulling apart, creating a crack in the earth that filled with water. The water here is incredibly clear, and you can see all the way down to the bottom even in the deepest spots (which are almost 200 feet down, by the way). It’s the only place in the world where you can put your hands on two different continents at the same time! I’ve had the privilege of snorkeling here, and although it’s definitely deep, I wasn’t terribly scared due to the fact that the rift is just so beautiful. The only danger to swimmers is the temperature; it stays between 35-39 F year-round, meaning anyone getting into the water needs a full drysuit to avoid getting hypothermia or worse. I give the Silfra Rift a 1/10 fear rating because I thought I would be much more freaked out by it than I was.
Dragon Hole, China
Tumblr media
While not as visually striking as the Great Blue Hole in Belize, this sinkhole in China is the deepest “blue hole” in the world. This pit descends 987 feet down. This earns a 2/10 purely because this is just a goddamn hole in the ocean that’s almost 1,000 ft deep and I don’t care for that.
Lake Tanganyika, multiple countries (suggested by @iguessiamhere)
Tumblr media
This lake didn’t quite make the cut for the first list because it comes in second to Lake Baikal. It’s the second-oldest, second-deepest, and second-largest (by volume) lake in the world. But someday, Lake Tanganyika may be number 1, because just like Baikal, it’s a Rift Valley. It’s getting bigger every day, and in a few million years when Baikal is an ocean, Tanganyika might be the largest lake by default. Its 4,820 ft depth earns it a 3/10.
Lake Superior, US/Canada (suggested by multiple people)
Tumblr media
This is the largest of the Great Lakes, and the third-largest lake in the world. It reaches depths of over 1,000 feet and has a surface area of over 31,700 square miles. Lake Superior is the site of over 350 shipwrecks and contains roughly 10,000 dead bodies. The reason these bodies are never recovered is because the lake is very cold, and very deep. The lake bottom is essentially a sterile environment, where bodies are preserved for eternity instead of floating up as a normal body would. This lake holds onto her dead. 4/10 for sheer danger and alarming amount of dead bodies.
Cenote Angelita, Mexico ( @olive-k wanted a cenote, and this list has two!)
Tumblr media
This is a cenote with an underwater river running through it. No, I’m not kidding. Underwater rivers are actually quite common, but they rarely exist in places that humans can see them. Usually they’re caused by a current moving in a different direction than the majority of the water, or a boundary between water with different density (as is the case here). The “river” appearance in Angelita is enhanced by dead trees, giving the appearance of a bank. For the first 100 feet, this cave has regular freshwater. But a little deeper lies a layer of hazy hydrogen sulfate, and beneath that is 100 feet of salt water. This ranks 5/10 because can you imagine descending towards a hazy patch of water and branches that you assume is the bottom, only to pass right through it and see a gaping black expanse beneath? No thanks.
Devil’s Hole, Nevada
Tumblr media
As a biologist, this is somewhere that I actually want to visit. This tiny waterhole in the desert is the only place that the endangered Devil’s Hole Pupfish lives. But we’re not here to learn about cute fish, we’re here to read about unsettling waterways. And hooo boy, this one is pretty weird. Because despite its appearance, this isn’t a little rainwater pool. It’s the opening to a huge cave system, which reaches depths of at least 500 feet. We’re not totally sure, though, because the bottom has never been mapped, and several people have died trying to attempt it. 6/10, since it’s very deep, hasn’t been fully mapped, and is apparently haunted.
Eagle’s Nest Sinkhole, Florida
Tumblr media
There is literally a sign in front of this sinkhole that reads “STOP. Prevent your death. There is nothing in this cave worth dying for” accompanied by a picture of the Grim Reaper. Need I say more? Probably not, but I will anyway. This sinkhole is the only surface opening to a cave system that stretches several miles and plunges to over 300 feet deep. Miles of twisting, confusing, narrow passages with only one exit make for an extremely dangerous cave system. For some fucking reason, it’s a very popular dive site. At least 11 people have died here since the 80’s, and is referred to as the “Underwater Mt Everest” because of how dangerous it is. 7/10.
Zacatón, Mexico
Tumblr media
This cenote was literally considered “bottomless” for a long time, because no one could find the bottom. Multiple expeditions were attempted, including one where a man died after reaching 925 feet without finding the end. It took a multi-million dollar operation funded by NASA to find the bottom of this hole. I’m not kidding. Turns out, it’s 1,099 feet deep, making it the deepest cenote in the world. It disturbs me that it took NASA and a robot designed to map alien moons to locate where this hole ended, so it earns an 8/10.
Saltstraunen, Norway (suggested by anon)
Tumblr media
This narrow strait is home to the strongest tidal currents on the planet. Roughly 110 billion gallons of seawater move in and out of this corridor every six hours, creating violent currents. These tidal movements are so strong they create a phenomenon very similar to the whirlpool in Scotland—the Saltstaunen Maelstrom. This vortex is 33 feet across and forms four times a day as the tides go in and out. Although this whirlpool is only 16 feet deep (very shallow compared to Scotland’s) the currents alone would probably destroy you if you ever fell into this strait. 9/10 because damn.
Blue Lake, Russia
Tumblr media
Despite having the least creative name of all time, the Blue Lake is anything but boring. Like the Zacatón, this lake had a reputation for being bottomless for a long time. A diver died after descending to 394 feet, and another barely survived after going down to 685 feet. Neither found the bottom. Eventually, the bottom was discovered and it came as a surprise. The lake itself is only 770 ft by 426 ft, but it is 846 ft deep. This lake is deeper than it is long. It is also a constant 48 degrees F, making hypothermia a risk for any swimmers. If that’s not bad enough, it’s also full of hydrogen sulfide, which makes the air around the lake potentially dangerous. However, people do still dive here on occasion (mostly for research purposes) and the lake is surprisingly beautiful beneath the surface. Still, that doesn’t make it any less deep, cold, and poisonous, so this is a 10/10 for me.
Honorable mention: The Mariana’s Trench, because although it’s not really a specific body of water it’s the deepest point in the ocean, at 7 miles below the surface!
