Hi! I've been interested in tokusatsu shows for a while now, but I don't know which to start with, or how to watch them.
Could you help me?
GRINS SO WIDE summarized quick answer: where to start: my go-to answer is kamen rider ryuki, it's my absolute favorite and you can find it for free on tubi :-) tubi is a streaming service only available in the us, so if you don't live there you'd have to use a vpn to use it (that's what i do!) how to watch: tubi has a few other titles from kamen rider, sentai and ultraman, so feel free to look around if any others interest you! tsuburaya also has an official youtube channel with a bunch of content, icnluding the currently airing season with subs in multiple languages and an english dub! there's a lot of shows with no official international releases, for which you'd have to use.. other means
if interested, there's a longer (very long... sorry), more detailed answer under the cut!
as for where to start, it's completely up to you! :-) look around and if a show catches your interest, go for it! in kamen rider and super sentai at least, the shows are self-contained and separate from each other so you can jump in with any show you want at all!
some reccs of mine for the big three are as follow:
kamen rider: my personal favorite so far of the big three :-) the seasons can vary a lot in tone and setting, pretty much the only consistent thing is that there's a guy with a bike. oftentimes the guy looks like a bug. sometimes there's even more than one (!!) guy with a bike
for kamen rider, i recommend:
kamen rider ryuki: my absolute favorite tokusatsu show, and one of my favorite shows period!!! it's the 2002 installment of kamen rider. in this series, a silly journalist guy happens to discover a mysterious card deck while investigating for a story. with this, he accidentally becomes involved in a conflict between kamen riders. as the series advances, the reasons for this conflict become more clear out of the shows i've watched, this is one of the heavier ones in tone. however, it's also really funny. the show jumps from grim conflict to looney toones sitcom situations and then back again and its so awesome this was actually the show i began with, and it kickstarted my interest in tokusatsu!! i don't want to say much so as to not give anything away, but there's compelling, unforgettable characters that are so so dear to me, a pulling story with unfolding mysteries, and beautiful suit design!
some other shows i can mention are kamen rider fourze (show from 2011, generally much lighter in tone, very funny and sweet, space-themed kamen rider show about a delinquent-esque highschooler who wants to become friends with everyone) and kamen rider w (i think this one is commonly recommended to beginners! it's very fun, it's about a pair of young detectives who investigate mysteries and fight monsters. the main trio from this show are so dear to me). there's also a bunch of other shows i loved like ooo and kuuga (my second favorite!) but if i started listing them all out we'd be here all day...! if you wanted to start from the currently airing season, gotchard is on episode 16 right now. it's been cute so far!
super sentai: this is the series power ranger adaptations are made out of! there's a team of color-color coded heroes fighting villains and they have a giant robot etc etc
for super sentai, i started with kikai sentai zenkaiger! very cute and silly show, made me laugh out loud multiple times :-) a guy and his robot buddies hang out and have sooooo much fun
another recommendation would be tokumei sentai gobusters! probably one of the most solid tokus i've watched. it's a techy-themed season which is a plus for me :-) i heart computers. this one has a smaller core team than the usual sentai show, composed of three members. the characters are great and the antagonists are unforgettable!
i also loved toqger and i've had a lot of fun with gokaiger so far :-)
ultraman: ... i know far less about this one SORRY. there's a giant alien guy who fights giant monsters. lots of creatures in this one. peace and love on earth and also the entire universe...!!! like i said, i'm less knowledgeable about this one but from what i've seen the special effects tend to be breathtaking! miniature sets the world...
so far, the only ultraman show i've watched is ultraman orb, it was very nice! with around 20 episodes, it's shorter than the other shows i've recommended, which average 50 episodes
the currently airing ultraman show is ultraman blazar, which... i've unfortunately fallen back on a little! i have no idea if it's still airing or if it finished HELP. anyway i've loved it so far! there's a nice, slow-pace feel to it, gorgeous effects, and very memorable episodes! it's available worldwide on youtube for free, with an english dub and subtitles in multiple languages!! getting to watch it live is suchhh a nice experience there's also plenty of shows outside of those three franchises, but i'm not knowledgeable about them and i don't have reccs for those! i definitely want to venture out at some point.. i hope this helped! again, these are just some general reccs of shows i've liked! look around and see if any show catches your interest :-) if you have a certain tone, setting, etc etc in mind and want more specific recommendations i can also help with that!! thank you for letting me ramble about toku for a while ^__^

character asks bc other anon was a coward: blade
HAJFTOVNWHYFAGDYSDNTJ
General opinion/How much I care about them: Ren Blade Yingxing my beloved beloathed depressed miserable angsty bastard aaaaaaa-
This man, oh my god. This edgy mess is somehow the second fastest blorbo to be coined as such in my blorbo-having history, and I think that alone says a lot. But even if not, he has his special little spot for being: 1) my first HSR fave, 2) my current main (the gameplay is ridiculously fun holy shit), and 3) the reason I downloaded the game at all (shoutout to Bronya, of course, but it was mainly Ren).
Also I really like the fact that he's genuinely batshit insane. An unapologetic menace to the galaxies. He can be so unhinged and evil sometimes, and that's a new flavor of fave in my collection. Did I mention the story doesn't try to redeem him at all? Because it's true! Extremely uncommon win on the hyv writers' part there; doubly so because they manage to balance this aspect with the subtle gap moe they love to give to all their stoic characters.
Yes. Ren is simultaneously edginess incarnate and a tired grandpa that sucks with words and doesn't know shit about technology. Oh and he keeps getting roped into Situations by his colleagues- and goes along with them all the time! The dude was literally asked to pose for a movie cover and he just. did that. No questions asked. Nothing.
I care about him a very normal amount. He's so neat and- oh my god I forgot to mention the aesthetic. Black/blue/red/gold is such a banger color scheme. He also has a spider lily motif and that looks very cool! And the pretty ribbon on the back of his coat is a 10/10 design choice. His only problem is that the game keeps forgetting to edit his silly beta design sneakers out of splash art, and that the washed out jeans clash hard with the coat. But otherwise? Perfection. I could (and did) stare at him for hours on end.
A ship I love: Kafblade is one of those pairs that you can read as romantic or platonic with equal efficacy and I love that for it. They're partners in crime! There's a great sense of trust and faith between them! They're each other's guardian and tether and the one who understands them best and they're such an awesome dynamic, good lord.
Honorable mention goes to jingren for the old man yaoi potential to take the relationship in a very (bitter)sweet or very sad way. There's something to be explored here and I wish canon could give it consideration someday.
A non-romantic relationship that I love: Stellaron Hunter agenda!!! They're so awesome individually and as a group, and the comedy is just lovely. You have Ren wrangling two terribly reckless women because in some way, by some miracle, he happens to be the braincell holder among the three. You have him trailing after Kafka on one of her shopping sprees with a whole bunch of bags and coats, you have him going to an arcade with Silver Wolf because she wanted to show him this brand new game she's been talking about nonstop for four days, and you have him in an impromptu shooting session with them both because they wanted to make silly movie covers and needed an extra actor.
They're one small hilarious family and I adore them so so much, you have no idea. Can't wait until Sam and Elio make an appearance in the story so I get more fuel for shenanigans.
The NOTP: None here sir, as long as the ship is normal it's fine by me.
My biggest headcanon about them: Ren is autistic and you will pry this hc from my cold, dead hands. He's stuck in his own head 80% of the time. He doesn't do conversation at all. Back when he was still Yingxing, he used to spend so much time at the forge when inspiration struck him, to the point of tuning out everything until his friends physically dragged him out to touch grass. He's an autistic nerd through and through, and even several thousand deaths can't take that from him.
An idea for a fanfiction I would like to write/read about them: One idea I've been curious about lately is what would happen in a roleswap scenario, where the Astral Express crew find Ren before the Stellaron Hunters do. He may not make for a great archivist, his state of mind may be less-than-stellar, but it's interesting to imagine the dynamics between him and the crew- and hey, who doesn't love taking sad guys out of situations for a change?
I'm filing this concept for later, just in case. Who knows? The writing ghost visits when I least expect it.
Something that makes me think of them: Everything these days The flute, the sound of wind blowing, red spider lilies, and -to the immense detriment of my composure in public- mentions of the word blade in any context ever. Why gee, thanks for permanently altering my brain chemistry.

The Sonic Series' kitchen sink elements are really... well, "kitchen sink" is a good way to put them. You got Shadow's backstory over here, characters stuck in particular eras or mediums, humans in some games but not others, etc, etc.
All that to ask this: how do you go about harmonizing the desperate elements of StH's various incarnations without doing what Frontiers did?
The short pithy funny answer is 'will it blend?'
The longer answer is. I think a lot of big long-running legacy franchises like Sonic, that have a zillion different branches and continuities and different this-and-thats that sometimes contradict each other and have about eighteen versions of the same story at any given time- think also most superhero media- are really, really fun to get into. People dread and fret if a particular incarnation is mediocre or too weird for their tastes, but I think the fun part of it is there's something worthwhile and interesting in almost all of these. Like I personally don't care for Sonic Chronicles very much at all, but I like Shade's visual design and I thought the alien designs were pretty neat, even if I don't think their lore fits well into the bigger Sonic universe and for the most part disregard them.
And there are zero consequences to me doing so! Basically, the franchise is your oyster. Take what you love and mix it up. This is why my personal longstanding Sonic AU has been what it is- it's not an exercise in me feeling like I'm "fixing the canon" because that's silly, it's not broken, but rather just making myself a fun smoothie out of the bits I really like.
It is so, so, so fun to me, to be in a world where stuff like Sonic Unleashed exists, that we can go, "yeah there was a whole game where Sonic was just a werewolf. yes he also had stretchy arms". The works both official and fannish that I've enjoyed the most tend to be ones that aren't afraid of being a little silly or digging into "worse" installments of the franchise to play with them.
I think it's very important that the Sonic series isn't afraid to be silly. At the end of the day it is a story about hedgehogs in running shoes fighting evil robot armies. This premise is never going to be stodgy and respectable and it doesn't need to be. It absolutely has it within itself to tell both serious and silly stories, and mix them together.
To also answer your question about reconciling, honestly, being willing to take a bunch of silly stuff from odd franchises and glue them together to make a more complete picture works wonders. Like, in pre-reboot archie comics- I'm talking back in the gag-a-day bizarre early stories- they just threw in a worldbuilding detail that Mobius has a colossal number of moons full of weird stuff; when the games have established Little Planet, Lost Hex, and Space Colony ARK as things floating around Mobius's general vicinity, taking that otherwise forgettable detail would line up a bunch of different things, and it lets me be cheeky about the thing where in the game canon, there's a blatant continuity error with the moon having a hole shot in it back in Adventure 2 and then in Shadow The Hedgehog, a game that heavily references the plot of Adventure 2, the full moon is very prominently featured.... with no missing chunk whatsoever. I can go, well, in my personal fanon, that's just a completely different moon!

So I've been playing Radiant Historia Perfect Chronology lately and I have many thoughts that plague me
Spoilers under the cut
All of this is from reaching both basic and true ending, the PC ending with the singularity, all side quests, possible history quests and no second run with clear data for the extra ending. Also I played it on friendly difficulty and it's a good thing I touch at the end of my thoughts.
I mostly want to ramble about the different characters in the game, in somewhat of an order so I'll start with my dear boy Stocke.
I really liked Stocke. He's not particularly chatty, but we get to see a lot of what's going on his mind through the story, including every decision he has to make that can lead to a bad ending and he ends up very well-rounded by the time of the ending. He clearly grows to care a lot about everyone around him, which makes his fate particularly cruel when it's only because he made all these connections that he can be the sacrifice, but it's also the reason why his sacrifice is such a heavy blow for the others. His status as a man whose soul hasn't been his for a long time unbeknownst to him heightens the value of his growth as a person and as a friend, showing how he could still grasp the opportunity to see value in the world beyond himself and his own lifespan (that was technically over since quite some time). He's willing to use the power at his disposal to try to get the best outcome for anyone he can help, even when it seemingly doesn't do much for the world at large, he's just really helpful. Stocke is also very funny to me in the many ways he deals with his time travel. Especially in the ways he casually transports a bunch of items through the timelines, and never explains how he knows information he has absolutely no way of knowing at the point in time he's in. He also doesn't seem to question the fact that there's a big part of his life missing, or at least that's what I understand the Ernst memory wipe as, and seems to just adapt to whatever the timeline has in store for him at any given time. But he's also a Sad boy™ and deserves the world for everything he's been put through. Especially having to kill Rosch that one time.
Ah, Rosch. My poor sweet bulky boy whom I really tried to use every time he was available but it seems it was never enough and even in post-ending he's not quite caught up. The mana spring dlc also shows just how big his armor truly compared to his actual body and I respect the huge suit of armor that makes his silhouette a little silly. I wasn't a big fan of his romance with Sonja at first until the alternate history in Celestia and his bigger arc, where we get to see some more of them that made me appreciate them more (and Sonja upgrading his Gauntlet has to be some of my favourite interactions between her, Rosch and Stocke).
Raynie and Marco are cute as characters Stocke is close to but I really couldn't care less about Raynie's romantic subplot, or her in general. My interest in her never rose higher than my interest in her gameplay, which is thankfully fun to me so it doesn't feel like she's wasting my time. Marco was a little better, especially with the Mimel sidequest where he shows another facette of himself in the bad ending where he goes nuts and I respect that. But ultimately, they're only involved at first because Heiss made it so, and neither their past not their relationship to Stocke or the others was delved into all that much, which is kind of a shame given how present they are during the game.
Which bring me to Heiss. Heiss' first appearance just threw me in a loop of "wow, this guy is so obviously evil but he called Stocke his best boy so now I really want the game to surprise me with a turn of events where he's not one of the Big Bad™. I really wish I could trust this guy in the slightest but that character design is screaming EVIL very loudly". He then proceeds to turn out to be the main villain. Except he still very much cares about Stocke, and always has, even when his other intentions are very nefarious. And even at the very end he still cares about his favourite nephew. And I'm a sucker for that kind of character development, so needless to say Heiss now lives rent-free in one of my mental tabs that run in the background on my thoughts. He does have one portrait where he looks down, in a content but sad way, as if reminiscing of a happier past and it really gets me every time. I did not expect to care so much about the guy, yet his character arc really did it for me. From the bitterness cranked up to eleven by the Black Chronicle's past owners and his huge soft spot for Stocke to his own actions of granting Stocke a chance at a non-royal, non-sacrifice life that he himself never got as Heinrich being the key to the only positive future there was for the world ? Gorgeous arc ! Until the true end where he just never gives up on the only thing he truly cared about, Stocke's future. The PC ending where he joins forces with Stocke, Nemesia and the others was also a satisfying moment, seeing how he's reminded of when he went on adventures with Ernst (again with that softer portrait I am very weak to), along with one of the possible histories where you get the key to his desk (which had plagued me from the moment I tried to snoop around his office much earlier in the game) and it contains an old portrait of Heinrich and Ernst, probably the only trace had kept from that part of his past, showing that despite all the scheming and lack of remorse on other fronts as the main villain, he's still an old man whose life was never completely his own, and who tries to break the cycle for the one person he cared about who was condemned to the same fate. In other words, Heiss is absolutely a magnificent bastard but also very human underneath and I am not immune to that.
On the other hand, a character I had to warm up to gradually was Eruca (I've seen her design from the DS version and I feel robbed, that little sprite had so much more personality !). She starts out kinda generic, as the princess stuck under the terrible reign of her stepmother who secretly leads her dead brother's rebel group, and I only started garnering interest when she joined the party and was armed with a gun. I had gotten a gun before but had no idea they were for her, and it was extremely refreshing to see how she fared in combat despite her lower availability. Her relationship with Stocke was also made so much better by that one moment around the end where it goes back to their first time meeting in standard history and shows exactly what she was dealing with when interacting with Stocke, knowing full that he not only was her dead brother living with a borrowed soul, but also had yet to be aware of his role in the grand scheme of things. I was afraid the whole ritual bit would get in the way of her character development but it didn't and she ended up being one of my favourite characters in both story and gameplay. Ice magic nukes are very nice.
Aht is adorable and I knew she'd be in my top three from the moment I saw her in the animated opening in which she gave me some Just a little guy™ vibe which is sufficient for me to be interested. Her voice acting was also very endearing (then again all of the voice acting worked really for me) and she was just as fun in gameplay with her trap set-ups and big combo potential. And then the story dropped all sorts of hints that she clearly was aware of something very big and plot-relevant and that really makes her go from Babsie™ to Tell me your secrets you adorable little scoundrel™ and that's absolutely my jam.
I wish I had a stronger opinion on Gafka. He's pretty neat, I like the combos he brings to the tables, the way he learns additional skills with Bergas makes sense to me and is cool, but I wish his character spoke to me more. The one thing I would say about him is that he has this trait where he has a hard time distinguishing humans and uses nicknames based on other visible parts of them, but does eventually come to recognize Stocke with his name instead of "Red One" and that's a new bit of development he got there.
I wish Viola was playable. Girl's got so much potential with a title like the Valkyrie but only gets so little story presence, but she's a highlight of every scene she's in and that's fine by me. I find her design very soft yet powerful and inspiring, as befits a character with her renown and charisma.
I can also say I really appreciate Raul, he's not the most appealing character at first, but the genuine effort he clearly puts in supporting however he can from the back lines and devising all of the larger scale tactics and stuff really elevates him as guy who's trying to make the best out of a bad situation where he can't turn his back on people who need help he can provide after not opposing Hugo more directly even though he suspected him to be up to no good.
Speaking of Hugo, he has me a little confused on what exactly his motives were, where his loyalty lied and what he was really trying to accomplish, especially regarding Noah and the possible histories surrounding him. I'm not a fan of letting him around with Noah and not facing more consequences for his actions. Noah himself is also a little weird, being both this mysterious prophet who just wants what's best for his people and this calm guy who seems to know more than he lets on but hasn't really tried to stop Hugo or find another way to reach the people without his name being exploited. I wonder how he could've affected the timeline if he didn't just vanish from the public eye after the possible history that saves his life in the alternate history.
Dias and Selvan are most definitely meant to be read as an evil power couple. You can't throw in a sidequest where it is shown they get a hotel room in the middle of the day and Selvan immediately resorting to threatening to kill a little girl the instant he sees Stocke menacing Dias, and not tell they're not in some kind of very close relationship that is never described as friendship, not even once. Also they'd seemingly betray anyone in a heartbeat except each other and I will read the subtext as I please. There is also that one line from Selvan in alternate history when Dias is dead and he says something along the lines of "But now Dias is slain, and I am broken". And that's without mentioning the possible history where they didn't set Protea up as queen but Dias directly, and an NPC says that "Dias wears the crown, but Selvan might as well sit on the throne" and I'll gladly interpret it as Selvan sitting on the throne with Dias on his lap. Moving on.
Friendly difficulty is a godsend that should be in many other games. I love being able to progress rapidly through the combat heavy parts of the story and only be forced into important fights which I can appreciate without wearing down my gameplay experience. I cannot show grateful I am to be able to enjoy the story to the fullest with no downsides in my opinion. It even gives me a reason to someday try out the DS version to experiment with combat a little more, and also see the game in all its original stylized glory (mostly Stocke's grittier self, Eruca's pixie cut, Heiss balding forehead that makes him less magnificent of a bastard and Dias looking less evil for some reason)
I also intend to finish RHPC with my clear data to see that final final ending, just to see what it brings to the table.

There's a great handful of robot characters in this series, and let's just omit Metal Sonic for a moment because it would be too easy to say so right away, and I'll draw attention to a few others first:
Tumblr media
E-123 Omega. Ever since his first appearance, he's just been a fantastic character. He's got bloodlust, he craves destruction, he thinks organic beings as "meatbags", he wants to prove he's the most superior of Eggman's creations, but he's also on the good guy side, will step up for his squad, has surprisingly good insight on things, and while blunt because his programming doesn't allow for much empathy, he's still been solid support for Rouge and Shadow over the years. I really think he's probably one of the few characters that's stayed the same fundamentally since his debut.
Tumblr media
Orbot and Cubot. These two are a set, do not separate. They're silly, cute, funny and have a really fun design gimmick. Modern henchmen robots that feel like a love letter to those of the 90s. I really like that they've branched out from being in the game continuity to also the Boom Cartoon and even the comics.
Tumblr media
E-102 Gamma. Walked so Omega could run. Compelling story of having his internal power source be self aware enough that his goal was to destroy his robot brethren and break down so that the little comatose birds inside them could be set free. Omega seems to hold his elder "brother" in high regard, as one level results quip in "Sonic Heroes" has Omega mention "Even I couldn't beat Gamma or Beta.", so there's that too.
Tumblr media
Emerl. Oh man, how many of us early 2000s Sonic Fans still have emotional PTSD from that storyline? Especially in the original anime, not the 4Kids dub/edit? His last action before self destructing being that he used his ability copy one more time on Cream, saw her cry and just starts leaking oil out of his eyes.
Tumblr media
Tails Doll. Yes, he's a robot. He might be probably the most well known obscure character on this list, and is entirely written based on a bunch of precursors to creepypastas in the late 2000s, but he's cute and actually really good to use in "Sonic R", as long as it doesn't start snowing. I used to main as him, lol.
Tumblr media
Belle and Motobud. Relatively newish characters in the last few years, but a puppet based robot and a friendly badnik, I really like this dynamic.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Omochao! I know he's probably one of the most hated characters in the series due to his annoying tendency to be an obvious tutorial character, but I actually really like his design and how many times he's gotten me out of a tight spot in some of the games where he actually has a hit box. I've had him smash incoming robots while zooming to get into view, have been able to throw him through laser gates to bypass platforming to unlock areas, have used him as an instant deadweight to get to the bottom of water faster for timed levels, and appreciate his bright colors for being eye-catching enough for me to find out my next pathway.
Also, the unlockable Omochao Gun in "Shadow the Hedgehog" is OP as heck, you literally can't lose with it. Absolute Chad move.

Something Came Alive - A FNaF Inspired Short Story
Tumblr media
It took a couple of seconds for my eyes to adjust to the new scenery I found myself in. The room was filled to the brim with arcade machines, toys, and other attractions. While this must have been a place many would've considered their childhood, I never got to visit one as a kid. And yet... Something about this room felt incredibly nostalgic to me.
It's exactly what I pictured an arcade to look like based on the movies I've watched and the stories I've been told. As if I was being led on a trail, my eyes went from one arcade machine to the other, trying to identify any details I could. I couldn't quite recognize any of them until I noticed the side of one of the cabinets. It had the art of a cartoon character I used to adore when I was growing up.
As I walked towards the machine, my excitement went through the roof. I don't usually get that excited about anything, but this had a grip on my mind. I had to play the game. However, when I finally inserted a coin, nothing happened. I tried everything I could think of, putting in more coins, rustling the machine back and forth, and I was still met with a blank screen.
I was as devastated as a little kid being told it can't go on one of the rides in the amusement park. Just as I was starting to tear up, I realized how silly I was acting. I'm a grown woman now, why am I crying over this crappy arcade game not working? As soon as that thought came, it quickly got replaced with another.
The only exit out of this room was a comically grand and whimsical door, like the entrance to a palace. Once I pushed it open, I was disappointed, to say the least. A huge door like that felt like it would promise as equally huge of a room on the other side. In contrast to the overstuffed arcade, this room was completely empty.
I suppose it was meant to be some sort of main lobby, judging by the fact the only thing it contained was a bunch of doors with labels on them. I tried reading them, but I couldn't understand what they were saying. It was gibberish to me. I picked a door at random and went inside.
Wires, metal, and various tools — it seemed to be some sort of storage room. What really caught my attention was all the robotic parts laying around. They all looked like they came from different robots, but I could see the consistency in their design. I picked up everything I could find and started trying to assemble them, like putting together a puzzle, with the difference that there were five different sets mixed together.
I must have zoned out while building it because it was ready before I even knew it. In a way, my creation was rather creepy-looking. No face besides its lower jaw, crooked bunny ears, one singular arm, an endoskeleton leg with every part of it being a different color. However, I felt more sympathetic towards it than scared.
The scrap it was made with was very worn down, and it looked at least 20 years old. Just as I was getting ready to move onto something else, I heard a faint hum coming from my robot. The hum then turned to whirring. Painful whirring and clanging. I watched as the mismatched machine tried sitting up straight on the table.
It was like an animal trying to pilot a human body. Jittering, shaking, and making nonsensical movements. The sight was too much for me to just gawk at and do nothing about, so I helped it stand up. I was taken aback by just how tall it was; like a child staring down an adult, as tall as a tower. For a long moment, it observed me, tilting its head left and right.
The ticking that came from inside the machine as it watched was dreadful. I wanted to run, but my body was frozen solid. I had no clue what it would do once it gathered enough data.
"Input your name," the bot spoke to me. I couldn’t comprehend what was happening. Everything that had happened made no sense. Wouldn’t this thing need some sort of power source to move, let alone talk to me?
"Input your name," it repeated. I imagined a far more friendly voice from what seemed to be an entertainer, but it was monotone and robotic. Only a hint of humanity could be heard through it.
"Julie. My name is Julie." Once I replied, there was a couple of seconds of relief... Until it quickly came crashing down with fear. Two red lights beamed through the robot's darkened face, or rather lack thereof. I was like a deer in headlights; I was stunned. I didn’t know what to make out of the situation.
"I remember. How could I not?" As it talked to me, I could hear its voice becoming more lively. Like it gained some sort of consciousness. Was it confusing me for someone else? This was the first time I’ve ever been in the presence of an animatronic, and I’ve certainly never been in this place before. “Where am I even? How did I end up here?” I thought to myself.
"You did this to me. And you get to live without a single worry. Nobody knows. But I always will." With every word it spoke, it took another step towards me. I couldn’t let this go on any further. I took a run for it, pushing onwards to any door or hallway I could find. Every new room I entered was stranger than the last, but I couldn’t linger on it for too long. I could hear the machine speeding up, every step sounding more powerful than the last. This maze of a building seemed endless, and I didn’t know how much longer I could keep up. My head was getting dizzy; I felt like I would throw up at any second.
After what felt like forever, I hit a dead end. I couldn’t quite tell where I was, but my best guess would be an office. There was one large desk with an assortment of monitors, plush toys, and stacks upon stacks of papers. What may have been my saving grace, however, was a row of empty mascot suits sitting limp behind the desk. If I hid in one of them, maybe it wouldn’t find me. I picked the bear mascot, who sat on the far left. I tried my best to hide as deep inside of it as I possibly could.
CLANK!
It’s inside. I held my breath and put my hands on my eyes. I’m not particularly a religious person, but at that moment, I had found an excuse to pray for the first time in my life. I begged God to make this thing go away.
One by one, I could hear it snatching the costumes, throwing them across the room once it identified whether I was there or not. As its glowing red eyes focused on the bear suit, I knew what was coming.
It reached inside and grabbed me by the neck. I tried to loosen its grip, but it was far too powerful. After some struggling, it finally pulled me out.
"I will do what you did to me all those years ago. You’ll find out how it feels to slowly get the life drained out of you while you hopelessly fight for survival. You can’t ignore me forever, Julie." Before it could finish, the dim light in the room went out. First there was silence, then there was relief, and finally — panic.
As I laid in bed, my entire body was paralyzed from what I had just experienced. This was the most vivid nightmare I’ve had in a long time. Usually, I forget them shortly after waking up, but this one really stuck with me. It's been 10 years since the incident; why is my brain reminding me of it now? I thought I had moved on; I thought I had put the past behind me. Before long, I tried to forget about it and calmed myself down. It wasn’t something worth being hung up over.
My clothes were drenched with sweat, so I decided to get up and change. I drank some water and got ready to go back to sleep. But as soon as I closed my eyes, I could hear someone walking outside my room. As it got closer, I could feel my entire room shake. I pinched myself, but this wasn’t another dream. Someone or something was approaching my room. After a prolonged sense of anticipation, a subtle creak signaled the gradual opening of my door. Emerging from the shadowy void, a pair of crimson lights cast a glow upon me.

Homie, you have no idea how long I've wanted to raid your ask box with silly questions! >:D
What got you into art? How long have you been drawing?
Do you have a favorite Greek Mythology monster? Whether for design or for the myth surrounding it.
What's your favorite song from Epic?
What's your favorite food?
Do you have a favorite dinosaur?
...Does Lobo ever get their wool sheered with a funky haircut? >:)
alright this is the second time i do this because Tumblr decided to erase it
so first of all
talking about art I've actually got introduced to it by my uncle (who works as an illustrator) talking about the drawing and painting side of it and by dad (who is a book worm lol) to the literary side of it.
and it was since i was really small
so I've also been drawing almost all my life (though i only started actively trying to improve my skill until i was like 11, and around the same age i started creating my silly stories and characters)
not related but started actually trying to write literature until i turned 14 lol
Now, fav Greek mythology monster?
I'm not so sure what counts as a monster and what doesn't but
I'm gonna say my favorite is Argos Panoptes. Because his story is a little silly and my boy Hermes is on it and also because he has a cool design (I've even drawn him a bunch of times and i have a painting of him).
I also like the Gorgons because snek
and my doggy Cerberus because he's a puppy I don't care if he has 3 heads and lives in the underworld i still loving him :-)
talking about my fav song of epic 🧍
that's a hard question
i think it is Just a man
but there's other songs that i like as much
fav food?
ENCHILADAS VERDES
Tumblr media
my beloved<3
damn now im hungry
LISTEN LISTEN my fav dinosaur is the velociraptor
BUT BUT
I'm not talking about this alien looking bald mf
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i don't like this guys
they're so darn ugly
i talking about ✨THIS SILLY LITTLE GUYS✨
my bird like babies <3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
fluffy birdie
Lobo with FUNKY haircut?
I've never thought about that before
gonna make a whole post about lobo getting funky haircuts omg

Tell us about your blorbos!
oh god oh fuck! well first if you wanna see em, i have a lot of art of them over on @realjem-art and ive been (very slowly) setting up a toyhouse for them (i think ive only added maybe ~half my characters there so far whoopsies)
im gonna put the rest of this under a readmore cause i have no idea how long i'm gonna make this
so i have like... a lot of characters now. i've been building up a bunch of characters and a sliiight story (for some of them at least) since about early 2021, where i made my first actual characters: Ann, Trixie, Scarlett, and Cinnamon
yes i know i've got very generic names for my characters, i don't have the brains for cool names like some people do dgshgdgas
i think my character count is at 56 of them, not including any versions of my sona, because i don't consider that a character, but more of a vessel on what i feel or would want to look like in real life (or just a silly design sometimes)
It sort of shifts around from time to time which characters sort of lodge in my brain the most at a time, for example, at the very beginning, i was definitely showing favoritism towards trixie, and then after i redesigned scarlett a bit, she's been my favorite for a while. there's random bursts where a few of them front for a while, but it typically defaults to scarlett and lumie
lately, i've been drawing a lot of the group i call Halloween Bargain Bin, because they're silly and i really want to flesh them out and their group dynamic a lot more. i've recently plopped a new character into their group (by recently i mean just a few days ago (as of posting this) actually!
as the case is for most of the guys in hbb, a lot of my earlier characters (basically a lot of them made bewteen 2021-2022) were based off of/referenced songs i like. but, because i do want them to feel like more of my own creation, i have been starting to drift a lot of them from their source inspiration, with a few pretty much entirely being divorced from their original inspiration (such as Ann, who was originally a character for Amnesia Was Her Name, which i then couldn't write a story for her well, and now she's just the owner of a lab chock full of creatures, which i just like a lot more)
my characters kinda sort into groups, some small and some way larger, and im just gonna list off all the ones i can think of right now: Ann's Lab, Halloween Bargain Bin, the group of four people that i still don't have a name for (Lilac, Kasey, Fia, Tay), the poly catgirls (Ari, Stella, Savannah), and all the creatures currently within Ann's lab, which is a long list and im not naming them all here (ex: zed, goliath, etc)
because a good chunk of my time is being taken up by school, a lot of my drawings of them right now just look like this:
Tumblr media
(^ lumie) since i can access a digital whiteboard on my school computer, where i just draw on that throughout the week, send the link to myself, and then screenshot everything over the weekend
but i do still save time occasionally for actual drawings, such as this one that i still really like
Tumblr media
(^ ezekiel, one of my newest characters!) Lately, a lot of the actual drawings have been in this painterly style (procreate, gouache brush)
a lot of character development lately is just me drawing shitposts, small comics that are mostly just jokes but help me try and flesh out their personality a bit
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(^ scarlett & lumie, stan and mason) Just quick doodles of stuff i thought was funny and wanted to make real
I do suppose this ask was about my actually talking about my characters, as, well, characters, but i am still bad at that. i will attempt? to talk about a few now?
Tumblr media
^ Lumie!! she was made around the start of july 2021 (my first artfight run!) she's my main non-human character pretty much, since her actual story has her in the same role as the humans in AL, as opposed to the monsters. Character design-wise, the most important details are that: she has no eyes, it's just smooth skin where eyes would be on a human, she's larger than an average human (Scarlett is 6'1" where Lumie is 7'4", not much much taller but still), and she glows. she's fuckin bio luminescent! light blue glowing "freckles" break out across her whole body, and her dark hair has the same light blue glow from the bottom up! it's sort of emotionally controlled, so if she were real upset, she'd barely be glowing, and if she were real happy, she'd be bight as hell. As for story, hers is intertwined with Scarlett. essentially they met when they were 9, were best friends, scarlett had to move and you cant just take your bestie/other-dimensional girl you found in a cave along with you if you havent even told anyone about her, and then scarlett finally drove all the way back to hopefully meet her again. now they are girlfriends and work in AL, where scarlett works on "conspiracies" in the meantime
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Trixie is another AL member, being the first to find the lab and start working for Ann. Trixie was supposed to just be a janitor or something, but being 17 and stupid, wandered into places where she wasn't supposed to go, and basically got mauled to death by one of the monsters. Ann finds her body a couple hours later and freaks out, but thankfully, being in a lab full of monsters and machines, there is some sort of experimental revival doohicky or whatever, and Trixie is brought back. Her body isn't all physically there sometimes, and it's changed in small, unnatural ways, but besides that she's mostly fine. Not including the fact that she's practically a zombie and she's stuck as a 17 year old. She can't really go anywhere else now, and she claims her life sucked ass before the lab, so she just stays and researches the monsters with Ann now.
These three (Scarlett, Lumie, Trixie) are the ones with the most semblance of a story so far, so it's easier to talk about them, lol
OKay, this is getting really, really long, and its probably already a pain to read (if anyone did read through all of this, which in that case thank you?) so im gonna leave this for now, but you are always welcome to ask about specific characters, or my favorite, you can ask me to talk about my characters in the sense of how they've changed over the past couple of years (in art, story, design, etc)

Sending this from my kinda not main but I was wondering how ningajo had changed from after the release of the movie. The last season I watched was skybound but I don't even remember if I finished that😭 but what I wanted to ask is does the story remain the same as it was b4 then? I've been trying to pick it back up for maybe 5+ years or so? The change in character design def threw me off and I felt kinda lost. (Sorry this is so long orz)
no you're good!! i love talking about my favorite show :D
you're correct in saying that the movie changed a lot of things. the character design, the world design, and the tone of the story changed a lot after the movie aired, and another change is lloyd's voice actor changing from jillian michaels to sam vincent (also the voice of double d from ed edd n eddy fun fact)
dw it took me a while to get used to the new designs (i remember being PISSED at the fact that they changed them djkghdkjfhg) keep in mind that there's also a canonical timeskip between s7 and s8
the story is.... well it's ninjago dfgjkhdkfjgh the core story remains the same, aka its a group of silly colorcoded ninja fighting crime and saving the world from being destroyed. again. but seasons 8, 9, and 10, usually referred to as the oni trilogy, have a much darker feel because the writers noticed their more mature audience and wrote to fit, while also still being a kids show.
the main change really happens after animation studios switch from wilfilm to wildbrain. wildbrain era (seasons 11-16) have a different animation ... vibe? like, the animation remains mostly the same, but there's different textures (hair gets textured, you can see every little wrinkle in leather, etc) and faces are animated differently, as well as using different animation techniques as is standard for a different animation studio, but the story also gets a big change
a bunch of things get tweaked post-wildbrain. for instance, the series is just ninjago now, not the masters of spinjitzu. elemental masters are just elementals. missions are called quests. sensei wu is now master wu (though i'm blanking on if this happens s8 or s11). they sometimes have anime segments (don't ask). and uh. most of the plotlines from the previous seasons are kinda... ignored? like, wildbrain heavily prioritizes its own seasons rather than the previous seasons, meaning a lot of that stuff becomes obsolete. tragic, but nothing we can do about it.
the main change in the wildbrain era is that the episodes are all 11 minutes long now instead of 22 minutes. this is remedied by having More episodes per season, but the shorter episodes are an interesting factor in how the seasons play out. many say that the seasons feel too rushed because of that, and i have to agree on some cases. but theyre decently handled for the longer seasons (s11 and s16)
so... the story. is it the same ninjago as s1-10 was? hard to say. post-movie was the start of an era for sure, and wildbrain had some thoughts about where it would go, but i can't say it's all bad. the oni trilogy is a masterpiece of writing (though its not wildbrain, its still wilfilms), s11 is pretty good if you ignore the bigger flaws, s12 is . ok i'm not the biggest fan but it's a very fun season its just clunky dkfghkdjhg but season 13 is amazing and i love it. seasons 14 and 15 are also good :) seabound esp
don't talk to me about the finale. i WILL rant about it. too much. this is a threat.
but despite it all, it's still ninjago. the same fun cast, the same stories of the ninja being dumbasses and saving the world, they just look slightly different. if the redesigns really bother you, there's not much i can say about that unfortunately. it took me a very long time to get used to it and i was in HEAVY denial for a while, but you warm up to them. after all, they gave us superstar <3 and that's all that matters
also you do not need to finish skybound it is . it's skybound! watch hands of time (s7) tho its very funny
tldr: i can't say whether the story stays the same post-wildbrain (s11-16), but i heavily recommend watching the oni trilogy. if the new designs squick you out, there's not a lot you can do but get used to it. if you want to give it another chance, go for it!! the movie either scared people off or invited people in, so it's up to you how you feel about the movie and its effect on the show. all i can say is you gotta make your own opinion about it, and if you wanna liveblog or stream any more thoughts about ninjago, feel free to message me again!! my askbox is open (and so are my dms if anything :D)

There are really people that didn't want Eggman to be in Frontiers??? He's been such a vital part of this franchise for sooo many years... he's even more iconic than characters like Amy, Shadow, etc. He's literally the main villain!
Yeah, I've seen a lot of anti Eggman on Twitter for a bunch of silly reasons, to the point he was actually trending multiple times not too long ago because of how many people were bitching about him, it was that bad. And people were happy about how he doesn't seem to be the main villain in Frontiers and some that didn't know he was in it at all were glad but then disappointed when they saw him. And I'm just like haha you're not getting rid of him!
It's often people saying they're sick of him being used as the main villain, even though that's the whole point and has been since the beginning. They don't complain about main villains being used all the time in other series, so why Eggman? My guess is they just look for a reason to hate just because they hate Eggman or aren't interested just because he isn't a generic stereotypical edgy design villain but they can't blame him for lacking good taste :P
And the beauty of Eggman is the endless possibilities for what he's capable of, from creating killer robots to harnessing massive eldritch horrors and tons more. I don't understand how people think he can get boring. You just need to be creative and imaginative like he is to see that he still has tons of unexplored potential and he deserves the spotlight and chance to show it. It's so cool how many things one man can do, it's far from getting old.
The only thing that's been mostly the same in the past few games is how they keep reusing the Nega Wisp Armor sequences for bosses but how is that Eggman's fault? Changing villain won't solve it, they just need to start making his fights different instead of repeating the same thing. It's not his fault the devs have been too lazy to change it up lately lol. And it's not like the eldritch horror bosses have gameplay styles that good either tbh, there's just a huge bias.
It often goes hand in hand but people also think he isn't evil or threatening because he doesn't have a generic edgy design and he's also funny. Even though his characterization is consistent and he hasn't stopped being evil and a serious threat, it's just that the tone has been more lighthearted and doesn't focus on the effects of his evil as much but it doesn't mean it isn't there! I'd like more focus on it but he clearly hasn't stopped doing glorious evil fucked up shit!
People blame general gameplay style and writing on him a lot, they'll usually say one of these if you ask why they don't want him but they look for any reason to hate because they don't like his design and personality, even though they're beautiful things that make him unique. They should give him a chance to prove his brilliance they can't see already by encouraging his full potential to be explored, not asking for the whole character to be thrown out.
But yeah Eggman is a fantastic, well established, multidimensional character that's endlessly entertaining with endless possibilities for gameplay and story, it makes him the PERFECT recurring character and main villain. He's one of the most relevant characters besides Sonic himself as the main villain that's been there since the beginning! There's no reason why they should start to remove him from main canon adventures. I don't get those that demand it and celebrate the idea.
We don't know if he's the main villain in Frontiers and it doesn't look like it with the little we've got so far (though I'd love if he was because I adored the twist in Lost World and you can't make me like any final boss more than Eggman lol) but I'm really happy he's in it and they at least haven't decided to remove him entirely despite the demand because of course they wouldn't. And I really hope he's well written and characterized and even better if he still gets to do cool stuff regardless of role!
The haters aren't ever getting rid of the star of the show! 💜🥚🌟

i have been curious about your characters since I heard first about them! unfortunately, am a little shy talking online, but since now seems like the least bother-y time i'll take now not really 100% sure what to ask first, so I'll start with this: What different stories do you have going on right now? Or do you just have one large narrative? (by stories I mean anything from big projects to a little handful of guys who happen to be in the same place doing similar things) Either way, I'm interested in hearing any synopses, little details, or longform rants! I like hearing about others' ocs
HI IT'S TOTALLY OK anyone can ask about my ocs anytime it's never a bother !!
But to answer your question! I have THREE stories I am currently working on! My motivation to work on them fluxuates on whatever im fixating on LOL but I realize I havent talked about them too much before so I might as well explain a little bit
Story #1: OUTCAST CHAOS !! It is my passion project and the most developed story (it turned 2 years old in January!) I'd like to make it a TV show or webseries some day! It is about a bunch of people finding themselves in a really weird game show, and discovering more about the weird little town they live in 🤔 this is indeed the story with Mic in it, LOL!! I'm literally in the process of planning entire seasons and episodes, hopefully I will get around to designing secondary characters soon HDKDHKDBD
Story #2: CORRUPTION (this is a placeholder title because I can't think of a better one, but I will someday istg) this is the story I've talked about the least on here unfortunately I just haven't gotten around to it, but you can see I tag the main characters in my oc tag a lot LMAO!! It's about a really nosy teen and the worlds saddest man having to deal with an evil sentient computer. It's a little dark but I've been really confident with story beats lately, id also like to do something with it! But I haven't been fixating on it like I was last year LOL
Story #3: MICROBIAL!! My most recent story and what my blog is currently themed to LOL its conception is so silly (it was an AU of an AU with my outcast chaos ocs that got turned into something both original and completely separate)!! It is both about the microbe apocalypse and about the very hectic relationship between two bisexual and mentally ill young adults. It's my current fixation (see how long that lasts) and I've been working hard on it since last October! I'm not sure what I'm gonna do with it yet but I know the internet is not immune to the microbez. Also Eve and garrett are from this story for anyone who's been paying attention to my incessant poll reblogs and my blog takeover on April fool's day
I have more OCs than just the ones in these stories, but they're basically all in metaphorical storage and I don't draw them much anymore. I'm really proud of my current works and I hope to tell people more about them soon! I unfortunately have a lot of anxiety, so I tend to just tell people major story stuff in private, but I'm trying to get out of my shell more! I have WAY too much info about like, all my OCs, I can answer basically anything you'd wanna know about any of the characters LOL

Dec. 24th 2023: Kiwami 2, Granblue Fantasy Versus, Arknights
What's up gamers, this week flew by and now its time for the Sunday roundup!
Over the week I finished Yakuza Kiwami, and moved on to the start of Kiwami 2, which remakes the second game in the series in the style of the sixth game, marking a big shift in visual quality and gameplay style. Once I realized how close I was to finishing Kiwami, I wanted to go ahead and blaze through the end without worrying too much about the side content (sorry Pocket Circuit) to keep my momentum up through the series before the JRPG explosion that's going to happen from late Jan-March of next year. Overall I had a good time with Kiwami, the main story is all classic crime movie drama throughout, and I really enjoyed seeing Kiryu and Haruka meeting each other for the first time and seeing Kiryu truly being "not the step-dad, but the dad who stepped up".
I was getting a bit tired of the gameplay by the end, especially how it seemed to me that the best way to approach any one-on-one fight was just to sit in Rush style and dodge around people endlessly till you could hit them, so with the bit of Kiwami 2 that I played this week I was very glad to see that that game was going to play very differently from the first. The more visceral style of the combat, the more free-flowing combo routes, and higher focus on equipment are all pretty interesting so far, though we'll see how I feel once I run into a few more bosses. I also really love the character progression system of Kiwami 2 so far, its really tickling the rpg gremlin part of my brain that loves to build up different colored skill trees. I enjoy how the different exp types encourage you to go do a bunch of different activities in the game, and using the completion list to give you big chunks of related exp vs. a currency to buy bonuses like it was in 0/Kiwami 1. I haven't played too much of this game, but since I've got the week off for Christmas and New Years, I'm going to try and really sink my teeth in over the next 10 days or so.
Something else I've been playing a lot of recently that didn't make the cut for the last recap is Arknights, a gacha-based Tower Defense game that I've been playing on my phone, tablet, and PC. One of my good friends has played this game for a while and always posts the cool and silly character designs from that game, and I had been looking for something else fun to do on my phone during those boring days where I'm working in the office, so Arknights it was. I have a somewhat latent love for tower defense games that doesnt get a chance to shine too often, and this game has been reminding me a lot of what I like about the genre. So much of this game is a kind of puzzle game: can the roster of characters I have access to do what the level is asking of me? How could I better position my units to hold enemies in a certain location? etc. etc.
I am also, unfortunately, a chores enjoyer when it comes to video games which means that a long-term character progression system like you see in a lot of games of this type is actually pretty appealing to me. I love to level up my little guys and see them get new skills, abilities, outfits, and so on, its fun!
Last but not least though, the thing that has really captured my attention this week is Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising, which I talked some about last week but has only gotten more into my brain this week. I think this game is really fun! I've had a blast so far learning how to play the game, the combo routes that this game has for most characters feel extremely "cool" to do, and are easier to pull of than they might seem, which allows someone who is *ok* at fighting games like me to feel a good sense of accomplishment from pulling them off. I think that the way the game incentivizes you to use the "Skill" button to shortcut your special moves is also really great, it's made me have to develop new muscle memory but also means that doing combos and pressure in this game just feels a lot different from other games I've played, and how it feels in this one is just good.
I've even been playing a new character! Which is wild considering how they put Siegfried, the man with big armor and a bigger sword (AKA the most me-coded character ive seen in a fighting game yet) in the game, and yet I've been drawn to someone else completely:
Tumblr media
This week I've been learning how to play Narmaya, who feels like someone who really likes Vergil from Devil May Cry designed her. This is for sure one of the hardest FG characters I've ever tried to play, but I'm really feeling the burn of figuring it out. Her whole thing is swapping between two stances with different special moves and normal attacks, which makes her very busy to play but allows for some absolutely sick maneuvers in the corner. Truly the only thing I dont like about her is that she's an anime-big-sister type, and all of the Draph in this game have the fattest tits imaginable, but I'm willing to put up with a little waifu-ness because she's just so cool and so much fun to play!
I will certainly be playing more of her, so please look forward to updates in future FGC Corner posts.
That's really all for this week, glad to be moving through the Yakuza series some more, glad to be having such a blast with Granblue, and looking forward to more of both during the Holidays!
Talk to you next week :)

I made a post about the Seraphites, so now I want to make one about the WLF. This post is mostly about the WLF's home base, aka the stadium and the area immediately around it. I've included some of my favorite pictures, and my thoughts and observations about where they live and their culture.
Under the cut again to keep things nice and clean.
Tumblr media
I gotta say, this blew my mind when I first saw this as Abby. The WLF really have their shit together. Multiple power sources, a bunch of the resources FEDRA left behind, and multiple food sources. The field has cattle, sheep, and chickens plus some farming. On the steps they have even more areas for farming. They have a way to collect water, and even people to design and string up their logo everywhere.
It makes sense, supposedly thousands of people live here (you can't see it unless except via glitch, but there is also baseball stadium immediately next to this that they might also occupy).
We only see where Abby and other soldiers (perhaps squad leaders?) live. They have a pretty cushy life, two per luxury box (the rooms NFL teams overcharge for that run along the upper level of stadiums). Mel also mentions a special area for young families, I wouldn't be surprised if these areas were further divided. Perhaps there is also housing for larger families and single people who aren't soldiers or squad leaders. I very much wonder if those who join the military get better housing than those that work as farmers (or dishwashers, teachers, laundry washers, cooks, etc.). As mentioned earlier, Abby and Manny live in a luxury box, and there are 112 of those in the stadium this is based on. That's housing for 224 people, if they all live like the people in Abby's hallway. That would mean there has to be more housing in other parts of the stadium.
Tumblr media
This stadium was once used by FEDRA, and you can see the concrete barriers they left behind along the edge of the field. They have to have more cattle than this, to feed all the people that supposedly live under the WLF. There is farmland around the stadium (more on that later), so maybe they mostly let them graze out there, then move some in when they plan on slaughtering them soon.
I love that they have wind turbines AND solar panels. You can see the influence that the Fireflies had on Issac and the WLF, they really focus on stability and restoring what was lost (at least when it comes to comfort). So they have electricity, sustainable food sources (and multiple kinds too), and a way to collect water (you can't see it in this shot, but they use a system similar to Jackson's, just on a much wider scale).
Tumblr media
They teach a curriculum similar to what was taught to kids before the outbreak. We only see two classrooms, but from what I can tell they try to give the gives the type of education they could have received in the old days (as best they can, at least). Both the teachers you see are pretty young, which makes me wonder who taught them.
Tumblr media
Most of the kinds you see in class are pretty young, like less than 10. These look a little order (they are outside the stadium in the market area, which I will talk about more a little later). I wonder how long WLF children are required to attend school (I think I saw a sign for 1st through 6th grade, so at least that?). I imagine they get a basic education with some broad looks into various topics, and maybe the ones most apt for study are selected to do specialized careers like teaching or meteorology. Other children are probably pushed into farming or the military portion of the WLF. Regardless of what they study, they probably also get a heavy dose of WLF propaganda. That aligns with how gung-ho many of them are to fight.
I wonder if military service is compulsory, like everyone has has to do at least so much time and then they can do other things if they want. Or maybe they make it so you don't have to fight if you don't want to, but those that do get better perks.
Most of the WLF you see appear to be in their 20's or 30's, or at least the fighters. That would mean they have spent most (if not all) of their lives under military rule, and they would have a special allegiance to the WLF since they manage things so much better than FEDRA did. Plus, you know, all that propaganda. I imagine they are told a lot about how the WLF is restoring society and how the WLF saved them from FEDRA/Scars/infected.
Sorta related, I thought of an WLF AU. Ellie grows up in Seattle under the WLF, perhaps with Riley and Dina and the other characters from canon. So many interesting things can be done with this, but that's for another post maybe.
Tumblr media
This is one the cafeteria's the WLF use. I believe this is one of a few, although this is the only one you see. There is also a butcher and small market for clothing and items here too. They prepare food here, but I think the majority of cooking is done in an area set up for it in the stands.
They have posted meal times for groups A-F, and separate meal times for children and the late night patrol. So maybe this is the only cafeteria? Each end is blocked off, so maybe they use some of the corridor that circles the stadium for more living quarters.
This is also community space where they can play games, chat, or read. There also seems to be a mix of soldiers and other workers eating together, as well as young families (there is at least 1 or 2 women with young babies in here).
Tumblr media
This little detail was super cute to me, but it also tells you a lot about WLF society. Everyone has a job to do, there is a role and place for everyone to contribute.
I'll talk more about this in another post (titled "It's Silly to Call a Post-apocalyptic Group 'Fascists', but Still the WLF Is Pretty Messed Up"), but an important thing to remember about the WLF is that everything comes down to Issac. He has the final say on everything, he makes all the major decisions, he picks squad leaders, he decides who needs to be punished, he's basically the Supreme Leader. Issac has been shown to be somewhat progressive with some things (you can follow whatever religion you want or none at all in the WLF, the WLF has no problem with LGBTQ people, you can get medical waivers for military duty, they provide support for pregnant women and parents, etc.), and in other ways he is very much the opposite (he punishes anyone who disagrees with him - this could be a relatively light punishment of a crappy assignment or it could be a beating, then there's the whole attempted genocide thing). Anyway, my point is that there are good things about the WLF, but also there is a serious darkside.
Anyway, when I saw this lady and her baby I immediately thought of Dina doing this with JJ while she gardens.
Tumblr media
I absolutely loveeeee this little detail. A mural for the fallen. This really reminds me of some stuff you could see today, just replace the wolf with an eagle and make the uniforms camo.
There are 46ish names on this wall, so I wonder if it is continuously updated or if there are multiple murals, because they definitely have lost more people than that over the years. Also, there are about 150 people at the FOB (the amount of bodies at the FOB, yes I counted) that will need to be added. Maybe the war with the Seraphites just really exploded in the last few weeks (or maybe longer) leading up to Ellie's arrival.
Tumblr media
I love that you can pause during the ride with Abby, Mel, and Manny to look around the outside of the stadium. Immediately outside there are train tracks and what appears to be a large market running along side of it. This is on the west side of the stadium, I believe. A major highway intersection is also nearby.
The market has all sorts of goods, food, gas, clothing, cleaning products, TVs and other electronics, records, and even more. I wonder if this is some sort of intake area for any goods they bring back to the base. But who runs these little shops? From some notes you can find we know their economy runs on trade, so how does this work?
Tumblr media
Once you get past the market area, you see a pretty vast section of farmland. I loved this shot because it also shows one of their rain water storage areas. They mark this water as to be used only for irrigation, so they must use something else for people to drink and bathe with. Or maybe they just filter some water for people to use, and the rest goes to the plants.
In the background you can see the wall and a guard tower. There is a larger wall (like much larger, I'm talking maybe 5 stories) around the QZ, and a smaller one that runs around the stadium.
Tumblr media
This is labeled "Checkpoint #4", so I'm not sure if that means there are other gates, but this is the only one we see in game.
The wall is pretty thick, and you can see these guard towers spaced out all alongside it (much like in Jackson). Once you leave the walls you are immediately surrounded by the wasteland that is post-apocalyptic Seattle.

Writeblr(?) Introduction
Hello! My name's Mikhael, I'm 20, generally summarise myself as an artist, and I've got a heap of story based peojects in different formats that I'm working on. Most of them aren't directly text-based, so I hope other writeblrs don't mind me shuffling in with my webcomic plans and what not...
About me
My favourite colour is orange and I see self-serve desert places as a personal challenge to eat enough chocolate for the next month. I really like science, both the factual side and the cool aesthetic and sci fi potential side. I'm in love with Solarpunk, which is a broad genre/movement? About looking after everyone in society, looking after the planet, and having a pro-active, optimistic approach to the future. Also the visuals are really pretty. So while almost none of my works are planned to be outright centered around Solarpunk, there'll definitely be a massive influence in the themes, designs, and world building in my projects.
I'm queer and disabled, and I have a lot of struggles with mental illness, dissociation, physical pain, I'm autistic and I've got ADHD. My disabilities have long time made it incredibly hard to work on my projects, to communicate with people, to remember things, or to see something through. So, my goals have been to work with these problems to be able to do what I want, even if I have these things making it difficult. That said, there's a big chance I'll drop off the face of the earth at some points, take forever to respond, or be a bit all over the place.
What I do
The projects I have ideas for or partly planned, or slightly started, include comics, videogames, 2D animation, a couple of novels and some short stories, and even some musical-style pieces that are basically short animated films with music and lyrics to tell a bit of a story. There might be stuff I'm forgetting. So, not everything I work on it necessarily going to come under the writeblr umbrella, but a lot of it is going to overlap.
I'll do digital art a lot, mainly painting style, but I also do drawings and pixel art sometimes! I'm building up a portfolio of a wide but organised range of styles and such, it's been a lot of fun learning new things in the process. I also do traditional art, mostly drawings and ink works. I do some painting too, mainly watercolour and some acrylic. I make small clay sculptures, too! And I'm sort of getting into small scale metal work. I can do some 2D animation, but only frame by frame stuff because I don't have software that lets me generate inbetween frames. I can play piano to a point, and I've got one song composition to my name. I'm kind of learning 3D modelling/animation and also how to make games with Unity. It's going... slow. I write fanfiction, in theory. I have this one Pokemon fanfic that's been without updates for a few years, but I'm just not in a place to work on it right now, so that's on hold. I've mainly got a bunch of little snippets and dot points for different fics apart from that.
Some of my projects
My main creative baby lately is COLOURS, which is on hiatus but getting more developed in the background. It's a webcomic about a world that's in greyscale, where the apocalypse, having been slowly encroaching as of late, is beginning to accelerate.
My main fanfic is called Like No Other, it's a pokemon fanfic. It's basically a rewrite where I focus on the plot as if it were part of one big arc with an end game instead of an ongoing, may never end series.
A novel I'm planning is called Walk With Me to Our Goodbyes; where a young man struggles with pressure, stress, loneliness, and slowly learns to make connections, use healthy coping mechanisms, and finds enjoyment in life again.
Those are my main three right now. I have a bunch more, a bunch a bunch. Tens. But they're not at the top of the priority list so I'll leave them alone for now.
Some of my OC's
Gemma Faringway- the main protagonist of COLOURS.
Tumblr media
Puppet - I'm only in the early stages of planning for the story she's in, but I love her so much I do a lot of art with her
Tumblr media
Pyke - they're the first original character I made! They're a super silly and goofy person that likes to annoy people a bit. They're pretty straight forward in general, but they also can be really deep- they have a lot of questions about who they are- not just their identity, but their history, origins, and future. They'll be part of a story I'm still planning, but like Puppet I enjoy finding ways to work with them in the meantime.
Tumblr media
Well, that's all I can think to add to this. I'll probably post some of my short writing pieces on here tomorrow, maybe make a page for my WIPs. In the meantime, thanks for checking this out! I'm super interested in connecting with some other creatives, and I'll be def checking out the people that reblog this!
Ah, the person that's inspired me to kinda join in on the writeblr community is @pens-swords-stuff , thank you for enriching the community so much!
