JJ: Booktube
premise: dating jj and being a booktuber.
masterlist
Lets ignore the fact that JJ would be fired without a doubt from the FBI if this stuff actually happened and her life would be threatened by criminals.
Tumblr media
-She knew that you were really into books.
-She just didn’t know how much. You two had met through tinder believe it or not, she was sick of being alone at night and didn’t want a fling. Luckily, you felt the same way and you two matched.
-The team did know that she was on Tinder, but not that she had officially met someone.
-Reid was sitting at a table on the plane, watching something on his laptop. But then she heard your voice, your upbeat, happy voice. She glanced back to see your bright and beautiful face holding a book. “What’re you watching?” JJ asked. Which grabbed the attention of Emily.
“A video on what books to read if you want to get into ‘young adult’ books.” Reid said, thoroughly focused on the beautiful woman on his screen.
“She’s pretty.” Emily saw you.
“She is.” Reid mumbled, blushing.
“Who’s pretty?” Morgan said, leaning over the back of the seat, “oooh who’s the cute nerdy girl?”
“A youtuber, and be nice.” JJ said crumpling a piece of paper and throwing it at him.
“Her shirt literally says ‘Nerdy Bitch’, I think she knows she’s one. She's hot too.”
-JJ quickly sent a picture of the screen to you. “My teammates think you’re pretty, have to say I agree.”
“OMG, please tell me you aren’t watching my videos 😭”
“I am now baby 😉”
“FUCK.”
She huffed a small laugh at your response, then continued watching with Reid.
-Little did she know you tweeted to your followers, “THE GIRL I’M DATING IS WATCHING MY YOUTUBE VIDEOS FOR THE FIRST TIME WITH HER COWORKERS. PLS KILL ME.”
-When she came home from that case, she wanted to hear all about your job, which you happily told her and tried to ignore your embarrassment over how she found out.
-Since then she has been a loyal subbie.
-You met the team and they were all very shocked that it was you that they were watching on their computer screen. They also all subscribed, and you had to make Rossi and Hotch youtube accounts because they didn’t know how.
-Your viewers knew of her, knew how you always called her “Rapunzel,” and she always called you, “Flynn” in response.
-But because you explicitly said you won’t be showing her because she asked you not to, you got hate comments for respecting your girlfriends privacy.
-When she came over one night, she saw all of the publishing houses boxes on your front step. She knocked on your door because she saw that your car was in the driveway. She got her key out of her pocket and opened your door. Then, she carefully put all the boxes into your foyer, as well as her overnight bag and shut the front door.
-What she saw next warmed her heart, you had fallen asleep on the couch with a book on your chest. She saw your tripod and camera, she realized you were filming a timelapse for a reading vlog. She remembered you telling her that you were filming one this week.
-She decided not to turn off the camera, instead, she gently took the book off your chest, placed a bookmark to mark your spot. Then she crawled on top of you. You were laying on your back, she laid her head in the crook of your neck, she giggled as she felt you wake up. You wrapped your arms around her, “hey baby.” You croaked.
-You felt her whisper against your skin, “you left the camera on, thought I’d give a little show of affection for those subscribers who think I’m a bad girlfriend.”
You sighed, “please tell me you haven’t been reading the comments.” “No, well, sometimes I do. Garcia sees them and gets mad.”
“So she’s the commenter, TheBlackQueen causing fights on my channel. Gotcha.”
JJ laughed, “oh god, I didn’t know she was doing that.”
“Don’t worry about it, I’ve been liking her comments, not deleting them.”
JJ laughed at that, then you continued, “you want me to get up and turn off the camera? It should turn off in…” she didn’t have to open her eyes to know that you were looking at the red light on the camera and the clock on the wall behind it. “Oh jeez, five minutes maybe, it has a 40 minute timer before it automatically turns off.”
“No,” JJ shook her head, “I really need to just stay here, Y/N.”
“Okay.”
-When the video was posted, she saw the comments on it. There was not a negative one, of course there were ones making a comment about why JJ was just showing herself on Y/N’s channel.
-After that, she was slowly showing herself in your videos more. Handing you something, delivering a package to your little library in your home.
-She made a lot of appearances in your moving vlogs for your channel because you two moved in together. The kids also made a brief appearance but very vague, you didn’t show their faces.
-She was memed within your fanbase because of the faces she pulled while you were moving books, and her helping you move them, she was like “????”
-When she knew she wanted to propose to you, her and Garcia watched a couple of YouTube videos to learn how to use your camera, then they devised a plan to vlog the engagement together. The ring picking, her talking to the camera and introducing herself. “Hey as you can tell I am not Y/N, I’m her girlfriend, as you guys know we’ve been together for some time but I’m gonna propose to her!” She cheered, then the team in the background were like “finally!” and cheering as well.
Then she broke down the plan to them, “so, we’re gonna go to our favorite greenhouse in D.C. I shot some footage of picking her ring, which I’ll have her insert here,,,,gah I’m no good at this.”  Then she continued, “so we have a friend who’s hiring some professional photography, which is exciting.” She did a lil shimmy, then Prentiss popped in, “hey! This is a friend of theirs and the reason our friend is hiring photographers is because we’re gonna be sobbing too much to take good photos, as well as he’s rich as fuck”
Everyone laughed at that.
“And, well, we’re going tonight, so wish me luck!” JJ gave an awkward peace sign to the camera and turned it off.
-She then handed the camera to Garcia who would hide and record the footage, the photographers that Rossi hired posed as regular ole pedestrians. The others hid in bathrooms, waiting for the text saying that JJ did it.
-JJ almost spilled the beans that she was nervous on the way over there to you. That would’ve ruined it.
-Luckily, the part of the greenhouse that you two had your first kiss in was empty. The fairy lights were lit inside, it looked beautiful.
-They had a flower there that the greenhouse called “the wishing lilly.” The owner of the greenhouse says that those lilies bring good luck, he wished on it then his wife was pregnant with twins, then he won the lottery and managed to build the greenhouse into something bigger.
-Per as tradition, you both closed your eyes to make a wish, but she opened hers and got down on the ground, Garcia quietly followed you guys in with the other photographers.
“Y/N..” she trailed off, you opened your eyes to find her kneeling on the ground, your eyes instantly filled with tears as your hands went up to your mouth. “Y/N, you are the light of my life, the Flynn to my Rapunzel, will you do me the honor and be my wife?”
“Yes!” You nodded and cried. She quickly stood up and pulled you into her arms.
-Garcia started crying and shaking, “yay!” You looked up to see her there.
“Oh my god, hi, there’s a lot of people in here.” You said seeing the two photographers and Garcia.
“Rossi hired photographers. And the team is waiting for a text to come in and congratulate us.” JJ laughed and leaned up to kiss your head.
“Oh god, I look like a mess!” You laughed, yet cried at the same time.
“We both do, baby. Welcome to marriage.” She slid the ring on your finger, just in time for photos to begin.
-At the end of the video, you made an introduction part for the subbies to meet JJ. Filled with questions and such to know her. Briefly mentioning her sons as well.
-After you two got engaged, you started filming fiance challenges, (my fiance picks my next read, my fiance tries to guess the plot of books based off their covers). Hell, you two even do some baking and cooking videos.
-Your marriage blew up on booktube, you two were The Lady Lovers on booktube, as you had been labeled. You both loved that there were so many people resonating with your love. You shared a pre wedding video talking about the insecurities you both had, and a talk about discovering sexuality when you’re in your mid thirties after a divorce from a man and having two kids. And you, someone who’s never been in a serious relationship, giving your advice to people.
-It was a big video and an emotional one. But it resonated with a lot of people which you both were glad for.
-Then your wedding video came out and everyone lost their shit. People were sending in love, there was a lot of adorable footage from the wedding, people crying.
-You even incorporated books into the wedding decor.
-While your career was quite different then JJ’s, people saw you as a perfect fit. You stayed home all the time, writing, putting videos up, writing reviews and partnering with brands on your channel, you were able to be there for the boys when she couldn’t be. She was all over the country constantly, she made it a point that every night before bed she’d watch one of your videos, and it helped that you sent videos to her of Henry and Michael.
-You were the calm to her storm, where her life was hectic and constantly on the move, she knew she always had a home waiting for her.

A Recorded Life Sequel (5/10) - Miraculous Ladybug
Words: 1125 Chapter Summary: Another day at the office for Marinette and Adrien, and Marinette even has some time to record a video! Afterward, they run into some trouble. Author's Note: we are back in business! Thank you everyone for being patient with my hiatus, the end of my school semester kicked my butt, then holidays kept me busy. I hope everyone had great holidays and a happy new year! I loved writing this chapter and I'm excited to be back at this story. Halfway done with the sequel!
Prev / Next / Masterlist
Timelapse
---
It was a slow day for Marinette. She didn't have any deadlines coming up too soon, and actually had a day to breathe and just work. For the first time in a few weeks, she even had time to set her camera up to record her process of working on her mockup design on a mannequin. Like the good ol' days, she'd timelapse the video and do a voice over for her fans.
Sure, her team would come in to ask questions and get some help, but those were usually easy answers. It seemed like the universe was giving her an easy day, which was a nice difference.
As for Adrien, it was a little different. Ever since he decided on the rebrand of Agreste Fashion to Emilie's, Adrien and his marketing and branding team had been working around the clock to get everything switched over. There were new logos that had to be made, followed by a new look for the website, business cards for everyone employed, and coming up with the perfect tags for clothing. To say it was stressful was an understatement, and they had planned to release the rebrand fully in a week.
It had already been a few weeks of working on the rebrand, and it was taking longer than anyone expected. Though stressful, they were very excited for Agreste Fashion to change and evolve.
Plagg had gotten bored of listening to Adrien talk about the perfect font and flew through floors and walls to get to Marinette's office. She always had extra cheese in her lunch bag (and it was unguarded, unlike Adrien, who likes to pace Plagg). Plus, Plagg enjoyed talking to Tikki and watching Marinette work when she was focused.
Plagg flew through the wall with a big smile. "Hi, Marinette!" He said and flew past her to land on her desk to sit next to Tikki.
"Hello, Plagg," She greeted, "Get tired of Adrien?"
"He was driving me crazy, asking me which font looked better. If it's not camembert, I don't care!" He crossed his arms, then got up to go find the cheese he was thinking of.
Marinette chuckled and turned away from her work for a second. "At least he's asking you, and he's taking this thing seriously. I swear, he's never thought about fonts more before this," She said.
"I'm proud of him," Tikki said, "Even though Plagg is bored of it, I love the changes Adrien is making. It will fit the company much better," Tikki added.
"I agree; it's going to be a great look," She said and stepped back to look at her work. It was getting to where she wanted it to be, though there were always changes she could make. She was excited to be recording a process, as it has been a while, and was looking for something new to post to her fashion channel. Sure, every so often, she could post things about unfinished projects, or after lines were launched, but there wasn't too much she could do.
On her second channel, though, she was more active. Not as much as she used to be, but there were still things she enjoyed posting there. She and Adrien played a lot of video games, and whenever she saw Alya, they tried to do something fun. Outings, games, storytimes, they always had fun creating videos. One time, they got Adrien to work at the hotel with Chloé for one of the fan's favorite series, and it was determined he could not do that job.
"See, I think it will be good. It's just such a boring process," Plagg complained as he ate his cheese.
Marinette shook her head at him. "I know, it can be a lot of work to sit and listen to Adrien figure things out," She joked. "Give him a break and let him just talk it out; he'll get through it all eventually," She reminded Plagg. Before she could get too much more work done, there was a knock at her office door.
"Good afternoon, Marinette. Would you mind coming to see our sketches for approval?" Two of her team members asked. She was the team lead; she had to approve of everything for her lines and work.
"Of course," She smiled and paused the recording on her camera. "Tikki, don't let Plagg eat it all. Save some for dinner!" Marinette warned as she walked out of her office.
---
Adrien was exhausted. He liked to be out of the office at a decent time, but he was still there later than he wanted to be with so much going on. Finally, he forced himself to close out of his document and head home. Surely, Marinette was already home and waiting for him.
His thoughts were wrong as he walked through the central part of the office and spotted her light still on. With a sigh, he shook his head and headed to greet her. Adrien knocked on the door, but she didn't look up. Adrien pushed the door in slowly. "Marinette," He said, making her jump slightly.
"Oh, hey, Adrien!" She smiled, "I'm still working on my video; you heading out?" She asked.
"I am, and so are you," He walked over and stopped the recording. "It's getting late; let's grab a late-night snack and get some sleep," Adrien said.
Marinette gave in much easier than last time, as much as she wished she could keep working. If it weren't for Adrien, she would probably spend all night working on her designs and mockups. "Alright, what snack are you thinking?" She smirked.
The Kwamis quickly flew to their respectful spots in bags as Adrien and Marinette locked up the office. As Marinette began to walk to her car, Adrien grabbed her hand to stop her. "Let's walk to that place around the corner. It's a nice night, and I think we both could use some fresh air," Adrien said.
"Good idea, Adrien," Marinette replied, and the two of them walked in the opposite direction of their cars. Though it was dark, Adrien was right about it being a nice night, and they both definitely needed to walk and smell the air. Since they don't run around on rooftops anymore, they could use the breaks.
As they rounded the corner, Marinette fell behind as she heard something hit the ground, assuming it was something from her purse.
She glanced down and realized it was not hers, and decided to keep on walking. But before she could get too far, someone grabbed her arm. "Ah!" She yelled.
Adrien's head shot around fast enough to give him whiplash. "Mari!" He started to walk towards her, but someone grabbed him too, preventing him from getting any closer.

Meet the Tutorial Maker: Curtis Holt
Who I am
Hello everybody! My identify is Curtis and I’m a mixed-media content material creator from London, England. I spend most of my time operating a YouTube channel the place I create a mixture of content material together with tutorials, add-ons and inventive shorts. I’m recognized for distributing giant amounts of free content alongside my movies, starting from simple 3D belongings to finish add-ons.
How I received Began with Blender
The first time I opened Blender was roughly again in 2006-2007 (versions 2.4x). Again then, the user-interface was nothing in need of alien know-how to me. I had no concept how you can navigate the options, not to mention use the software to make anything aside from a cube. Most days I might open the software, mess around with the buttons after which shut it again with out making anything. Typically I might go months with out touching it, however curiosity all the time introduced me back. Again then, studying how you can use software program with the help of the internet was far more troublesome. Google had acquired YouTube, but the platform hadn’t actually ‘taken off’ yet and there was a restricted number of learning assets out there.
As the years went on, I turned extra curious about constructing 3D worlds inside the context of recreation improvement. Educators making higher-quality video content turned extra widespread and I started to take a position extra time into learning Blender.
How I Learnt to Make Issues
Blender was not truly my first foray into the world of 3D. Back in 2004 once I was about eight years previous, my dad had managed to get hold of ‘3ds Max 7’, and I spent many hours after faculty making random shapes and buildings. I feel my proudest mannequin at that time was a spaceship made utterly out of cubes and cylinders that had been reworked until they vaguely resembled one thing sci-fi. Sadly that mannequin not exists.
I might love to be able to show my younger self my newer attempts of modeling a spaceship:
Throughout most of my time at secondary (excessive) faculty, I used to be more all in favour of programming than paintings. I spent my free time learning methods to make web sites with associates, after which moved on to making text-based journey video games with C++.
Over time I turned more involved in 3D recreation improvement and began experimenting with all types of recreation engines. That’s once I tried out the Unity3D engine, which I in a short time turned hooked up to. It’s a simple engine to put in writing scripts for using C#, which is such a strong language. So much of the software program is uncovered for modification / extension and that has all the time excited me. It’s one in every of the reasons I really like Blender a lot—I can break it aside and construct new options to go well with my ideas.
Understanding easy methods to write games was one factor, however I needed to convey my inventive expertise up to scratch to let me deliver my imagination to life. Blender was free and I enjoyed its flexibility, so I went all-out with studying easy methods to use it.
Zacharias Reinhardt, Andrew Worth, Gleb Alexandrov and Aidy Burrows all produced high-quality content (free and paid) that was extraordinarily useful to my studying throughout this time.
How I Began Making Tutorials
I really like YouTube and was all the time inquisitive about operating a channel however a lack of confidence prevented me from putting my work on the market at an earlier time.
There are key people who ought to be thanked for the existence of the channel—associates, household and different nice artists, content material creators and members of the Blender group.
I want to offer a huge because of Bart Veldhuizen who was the first individual to ever write an article about my work. It made me realise that there are actually individuals on the market who will probably be eager about what I could make.
In addition to that is Nicholas, a remarkably gifted writer and supportive good friend, who managed to keep my creativity flowing by continually challenging me with random tasks and concepts.
The first tutorial I made for the channel was about modular setting design with a give attention to constructing science-fiction corridors. I selected this as a topic as a result of I had been asked for recommendation on the subject a number of occasions by a set of associates, and making a video that they might refer again to seemed like a useful concept.
After the video received accepted for BlenderNation, I acquired a flood of viewership and supportive comments. Half 1 shortly surpassed one thousand views, which utterly blew my thoughts. So as to add to that, only three days after the collection was posted, Grant Abbitt featured it in his video: ‘Immerse Yourself in Creativity’. I used to be elated to see individuals enjoying the content material.
The channel has far exceeded my expectations up to now and it’s all because of a vibrant, fantastic and beneficiant group. I’m continuously stunned and motivated by individuals sharing their work using methods from my movies.
My Strategy to Educating
My strategy is to maintain it very deliberate and scripted. That is for a number of causes—individuals on the web usually have brief attention spans and I don’t need to waste their time. In addition to this, scripted dialogue is simpler to translate into other languages because it removes mumbling and pauses for thought. This can be a totally different strategy from another tutorial makers preferring to do stay recordings for tutorials.
There’s definitely no right or flawed strategy to do it. Doing stay and unscripted tutorials can convey far more character in case you can keep rapport with the viewer. All that basically matters is you could get the info across with out boring or annoying the viewer.
Once I’m conveying instructional info to members of my group (particularly on our Discord server), I all the time keep the perception that encouragement is important for learning. I additionally inform individuals to not comply with conventional ‘rules’ for artwork and design too intently. Respect and study from them to information your work, but in addition study to break them where you are feeling it’s applicable. Artwork is art, don’t let it’s restricted by conventions.
How Subjects are Chosen
Usually, I simply make what I really feel like making. For this reason I really like YouTube—I’m allowed to get up and select what to work on for that day. Artistic freedom is all the time thrilling for me. If I put out a video and don’t know what to make subsequent, then I have a growing 7-page document of ideas that I can refer back to.
This definitely doesn’t imply I’m closed off from new ideas. I actively search social media on the lookout for new and fascinating developments, and my group are fast to send me fascinating subjects that seem in the CG group. Anybody could make requests and if I find the topic fascinating and assume it’s substantial enough for a video, then I’ll deliver it to life.
How Tutorials are Made
If I know what I need to make, I’ll start by experimenting in Blender, retaining all the things in a separate folder right from the beginning. My goal will probably be to create fascinating assets that I can distribute alongside the upcoming video for individuals to mess around with.
Tumblr media
Demonstration file for ‘Smoke Simulation in EEVEE (Blender 2.8)’
As soon as the assets are created, I’ll begin writing a script detailing the process and method, often explaining the way to replicate or use the assets. Following that, I will report the vocal audio for the script with Adobe Audition.
The audio will then be put into an Adobe Premiere challenge where I’ve a pre-made template with my common intro and outro already set up.
Tumblr media
Premiere challenge file for ‘Displaying Characters in EEVEE (Blender 2.8)’
Now all that’s left is to get clips to match the scripted audio. I’ll put Premiere and OBS Studio on my left monitor and hold the entrance monitor clear for recording. Listening back to the audio, I comply with together with the script and perform the essential actions on the display. Once all of the clips have been put into the venture, I’ll proof-watch the complete video, make crucial modifications, render it to file and then upload it to YouTube, the place it can stay personal till all of the assets have been uploaded to Gumroad and other obtain websites.
Examples of Work
Method Focus
Add-on Demonstrations
Lighting and Type Design
Surroundings Design
Timelapses
Instruments I Use
Blender
Adobe Premiere, for video modifying.
Adobe Audition, for audio recording.
OBS Studio, for display recording.
Unity3D, for degree design, shorts and interactive tasks.
Visual Studio Code, for scripting (corresponding to with add-on improvement).
The Office
My workplace can get very messy since I’m understanding of a small room. What you possibly can see under is my desk in a tidy state. Each piece of word paper I write on is stored in a stack on my bookshelf since I never throw something away. It’s because I wish to archive unfastened ideas in-case they may be helpful to me in the future.
Tumblr media
Where the magic occurs.
Where I Find Inspiration
Artwork books, Pinterest, Twitter, films, video games, music and YouTube. I like to eat all types of inventive media, though I especially love video video games, films and music movies. This could be partially as a result of my father being a Particular Effects Supervisor—I’ve been fortunate sufficient to spend many days growing up on film units in several elements of the world. I’ve been raised in a family that celebrates artistic achievement and entrepreneurship. Due to this, I’ve all the time been inspired to study as many expertise as attainable, surrounding myself with as a lot information and inspiration as I can. I feel creatives ought to take the time to show their consolation zones into locations that provide them with emotional stimulation. Pinterest especially has really enlightened me to the sheer quantity of paintings out there online and I can extremely advocate it to individuals trying to build up a library of inspiration.
Thanks for taking the time to examine my work!

Now all that’s left is to get clips to match the scripted audio. I’ll put Premiere and OBS Studio on my left monitor and hold the entrance monitor clear for recording. Once all of the clips have been put into the venture, I’ll proof-watch the complete video, make crucial modifications, render it to file and then upload it to YouTube, the place it can stay personal till all of the assets have been uploaded to Gumroad and other obtain websites.

Top Choices of Live Couple Cams
The Fundamentals of Live Couple Cams Revealed
The dash cams are great if you've got the genuine article but it is a case of buyer beware in case the price is too low. They operate just a few minutes without a power resource. Unfortunately, multi-channel dash cams continue to be quite pricey, and many don't have very excellent video quality. Unfortunately, they continue to be quite costly, and many don't have very very good video quality. Some might believe that a webcam is the most essential element in regards to streaming, but they would be wrong. As an issue of fact, it's very simple you do not even need to have your own webcam to relish a video chat due to the fact that many sites offer streaming cams also.
A few of the cams aren't as excellent as girls inside them. You can broadcast your own cam and show people from all over the world what you're doing. In reality, live couples cams are predicted to take over the whole porn industry in a year or two. Don't forget that the camera is simply a tool that's equipped to turn into an excellent helper. Dashboard cameras with at least two lenses are called dual lens or multi-channel dash cams. There are several home security cameras available on the market, it can be frustrating to work out which to choose.
What Has to be Done About Live Couple Cams
All type of girls come to our webcam site trying to find a fantastic moment. There are all types of girls and women, and male cam models and shemales. The hottest girls and women from India are here in order to entertain you, talk with you and cause you to enjoy wonderful shows that you are not going to forget so quick. If sex is bad then it is not going to be among the essential functions of the human body. So whatever your sexual preference, you may enjoy totally free live sex that is appropriate for you. So you wish an excellent fuck with booty Latina girl, you'll get it. There are guys and girls from all around the world.
Even a couple cheap or free improvements are able to make an immense difference. Over a time period, it's not unusual for couples to get started feeling comfortable with one another. Let's focus on that which we're speaking about by watching a few long term timelapses. Couples also delight in watching different couples. There are two or three features on the Dash Cam 55 I didn't get to use.
Live Couple Cams and Live Couple Cams - The Perfect Combination
Let's look at a few examples. Couples can do a variety of things together. Before you begin recording, you'll want to establish a couple of preferences in the settings menu.
Many times, an internet Video recording chatroom works with all kind of webcams. In addition, such on-line chats offer a risk-free type of contactless intercourse, when it's simple to be sure of overall safety. You are able to acquire limitless free chat till you do decide who you wish to devote your cash on. Completely free live video chat is about fun and all you have to do is plug in your webcam and you are prepared to chat with anybody you desire.
There isn't any info with respect to when or if more apartments are likely to be added to the website. The site improves daily, therefore it becomes increasingly more pleasurable. Reviewing live sex websites is among our favourite things to do. It's strange to realize that sort of site in prime list but there it is. The website is advertised as free, but that isn't exactly true. Considering it is free to use for everyone and all new members get a handful of strip teases on the house, you could end up going all the way with a virtual hoe without spending a dime. Yes, there are lots of forms of cam websites.
Live streams show a greater level of reality in comparison to a produced video. After you start streaming, it may be an intimidating job to do it live. The ideal streaming are available just in our rooms and we'll only allow performers with higher excellent cams. The video is a bit shaky though, therefore it might not be the perfect alternative for artistic use. Playing back video is a bit wonky though. The overall video is still nice and sharp, and gives an exceptional view of things going on in the front part of the automobile. To begin with, it isn't capturing actual video.
A History of Live Couple Cams Refuted
When you're prepared to watch a show, simply click the snapshot and you'll instantly begin viewing that cam show. Find what you like and begin enjoying the show at no cost. Instagram Live is going to be ephemeral. Facebook Live is a tool in Facebook that is the biggest distribution platform on earth at this time.

Tumblr media
Father’s Day this year turned into Father’s Weekend as we pre-functioned the holiday on Saturday and spent the middle of Sunday with my parents brunching at the Palisade Restaurant in Magnolia.
Now, traveling down to Magnolia is always a trip down memory lane... with present-day overlays: a condominium where Denny’s used to be; another condominium where Sunset Bowl used to be; a Safeway that taking up the entire block that used to be shared by Pay ‘n Save and Tradewell.
That’s Ballard, of course, right there at the intersection of 15th Avenue Northwest and Market Street. Once upon a time, it was to be a terminus of the Seattle Monorail Project traveling from West Seattle through its current run up Fifth Avenue and on to Ballard.
The project didn’t pan out... but, after all these years, Ballard is so, so, so, so... different. You start noticing it once you exit I-5 onto city streets.
My favorite approach to the city is over Holman Road. Right at the top of the hill, there, you notice the greening of arterials. I noticed this the first time traveling Holman to 15th all the way to the Magnolia Bridge. I really noticed it in Magnolia along Government Way and 34th Avenue West from Emerson to the tennis courts.
Tumblr media
Brunch at the Palisade was, of course, super fabulous, ever the classic experience.
Linzy and I completely indulged in the dessert area. She grabbed a burnt creme brullet whilst I grabbed one, too, and a cream puff I promptly dipped into the milk chocolate fountain and a ginormous strawberry that I doused in the white chocolate fountain.
Back at the table, dad realized he’d missed the entire dessert spread. So he headed down there post haste.
Kimmer wanted a burnt creme brulee of her own and, whilst the server went off to check the cook’s recipe for nuts or nut exposure, quickly forgot she wanted a burnt creme brulee of her own.
Only after we’d all gotten up from the table did she remember the creme brulee and ran off ahead of us to grab one and, you know, eat it... right there.
After we all wished each other our fare-thee-wells, Kimmer ‘n I walked Linzy to her car that was quite a way’s away.
We’d never been down this way before. It’s basically where West Marina Place dead ends. There’s a sign, then some trees that block the view. Clearly, though, you can see a path.
Out of curiosity, we stepped out onto the path, quickly revealing the view below of low tide.
Now the trail on the right, the one on which we’re actually standing, doesn’t go much farther than you see in the photograph. I’m pretty sure it ends with either steps or a rocky slope down to the beach. Beyond that, after more trees and beach, is the row of houses that line Galer Street... itself the tail end of 32nd Avenue West that cuts through most of Magnolia from north to south.
Standing here, though, I’m thinking I’m maybe looking at Perkins Lane. And that thought immediately triggers a useless piece of knowledge: there are maps that actually show streets where there is now water. In June, 2018, there are two streets lining Elliot Bay on the south shores of Magnolia. They are West Galer Street... and Perkins Lane.
South of those two streets?
Nothing but water.
Tumblr media
Okay so just scroll down below the maps if a little Magnolia history falls outside your interests.
As for the rest of you, yes, there are maps from the 1920s and 1950s showing at least two streets basically in Elliott Bay. The 1920s map even shows five or six streets off the beach to the south of Discovery Park.
On the 1920s map, the two streets to which I refer are identified as Puget Avenue and Logan Avenue. In the 1950s, they’re identified as Beach Lane and Lee Street. Not sure if we’re talking about the save pavement between those decades, but it’s hard to imagine we’re not.
Of course, speaking of hard to imagine, why would Rand McNally and Company (1924) or the Shell Oil Company (1956) record roads that never existed?
Seriously. They were never built.
Yeah.
No idea.
But to me, it’s always been a lovely mystery. Something to indulge whenever the thought arises. In this case, all these thoughts and subsequent research were triggered by the one view above.
Crazy how that works.
Tumblr media
Just as frame of reference, the Google Map above shows Perkins Lane as the southernmost street facing the beach. Magnolia Boulevard actually sits atop the bluff.
Anyway.
If you’d like a clean, high resolution look at my temporary obsession, click here. The link takes you to Old Maps Online. Click on the red “Browse The Old Maps” button and a column of map thumbnails will appear along the right side of the screen.
So Kimmer ‘n I backtrack along the path and I see a cow.
No kidding.
A cow.
Immediately I whip out my 35mm and take some photos. Because yes. I saw a cow... floating out there on Elliott Bay under a hot, hot sun.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I wanted proof, see.
‘Cause a giant cow floating on Elliott Bay does not, in fact happen every day.
The story of The Cow... is something you’ll find here.
Otherwise, take a peek at this timelapse showing part of its journey...
youtube
After the cow, we jumped back into our car and up I-5 to Lynnwood.
Deciding to kill a little shopping at our local Value Village, we parked... then decided to take advantage of the car’s sunroof as we turned Kimmer’s bug into an impromptu photo booth. You can see the sunroof in my lens at the upper right corner of each picture...
Tumblr media
The rest of the day was pretty chill. Hanging out. Desserts. Binge-watching more Last Man Standing.
It was a lovely end to a lovely Father’s Day weekend that was itself a lovely end to a pretty packed week.
Earlier in the day, back when we were at Value Village, I snapped a couple photos that captured an entire week focused on celebration and great eats.
It’s amazing how all of that worked out without, you know, planning it.
Marriage Pro Tip: You get a ton of bang for your buck when you know just how to improvise on your feet.

TIP TOP STUFF FROM 2017
This post has been written in an ever-shortening sliver of the end of the year so there may be many typos, half-sentences, oddly expressed feelings and extreme over-sharing. BEWARE ALL YE WHO ENTER HERE! (the rules are if I’ve seen/read it this year it counts as this year, hence some stuff from last year/the 1960s)

If I have too much time to think and am not in a great mood I end up worrying a lot about how quickly time goes past and then we die and then no one remembers us. I am not very good at dealing with these worries and mostly when I see shows which look at these themes I don’t generally appreciate the layered approaches and interesting comments, I mainly just get stressed out. Yet coming out of Dollywould, a show at least in part about death and legacy and I didn’t feel any of my normal worries. In fact if anything I felt really good – not just buoyed by the FANTASTIC music and HILARIOUS costumes and I mean it’s Sh!t Theatre I don’t need to describe why it could make you happy. But it also felt like it said something to me about these themes that made me feel a little bit okay. Obviously I can’t just write down what that was otherwise I’d no longer ever feel that way and I definitely still do. For me it was one of those beautiful pieces of art where you feel what it’s saying to you rather than think it. I want to keep it in my pocket for when I’m sad. It is my favourite Sh!t Theatre show so far and anyone who wants to argue about that can go away.
Our Best Guess
This was another show where it was more about talking around a theme than making a point (or if it was about making a point I definitely missed it). It’s about missed chances and avoided tragedies and the turn of prediction to regret&. It was a fantastic mosaic of stories and when I sometimes look around and cynically think that, amongst all the remakes and reboots and ‘original’ stories that may as well be one of the former, all the stories have been told before, it was amazing to find so many sharing space in the same show.
Kin
My possible dissolutionment (which is definitely an actual word) with narrative means a lot of stuff on this list is non-narrative – most is live-art-y or dance-based and one that was circus! I can be very hot and cold with circus – one or two shows have been some of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen (especially Ockham’s Razor’s Not Until We Are Lost) but I’m often on a weird line where I don’t want it to just be tricks but feel like narrative almost always feels weirdly forced in. Kin was the perfect balance – suggestions and nods towards meaning coming from heart-in-mouth, skilful, silly, absolutely sincere, risky (sometimes a bit too much) movement. Also I think the song ‘Starry, starry Night’ was in about 5 shows I saw in Edinburgh and this version definitely won.
With Force and Noise
While Kin was filled with massive movement, what was striking in With Force and Noise was the restraint and small-ness. Like many of the shows in this list it feels really difficult to talk about without just listing everything that happened in it, and standing back and going ‘isn’t that great!’. I’ve already written a teeny bit about why I love the show+ so I’m going to focus on one really specific element. When the show started Sullivan walked with painstaking slowness towards the audience – this was joined by lights on the floor really slowly turning on as she walked forward. So slowly that you wouldn’t realise what was happening until another light had been turning on for minutes. I’ve been paying a lot more attention to lighting designs recently due to my friends doing that and honestly I think this was my favourite of the year. Sullivan then stand still for a long time and some of the other beautiful parts of the show happen, which I loved and were fantastic but which for now I’m going to skip over. That’s because after all these parts, where Sullivan stays completely still and we are all totally focused on the one still point she inhabits. Then she gently starts to shake. I hear clanking sounds and I think they may be off stage – I thought I’d heard some while she was entering. The shaking builds and so does the sound and I realise they are connected – spittle starts to fall from Sullivans mouth. Shaking quite violently  now she turns and we see that sewn into her costume – along with the intricate embroidery – are kettles and pots and bells, now clashing against one another. That was why she had to walk so carefully at the beginning. She had to remain completely composed to stop her rage from spilling out. God I love theatre.
Alba
Alba is another show which lies in small movements. It’s also a show that I think has been around for quite a while but I went in knowing almost nothing about it. This is a show that I definitely could describe moment for moment because I did just that when I got home, filling in a friend who couldn’t go. I’m so glad because now I can relive the show. It felt like magic, transforming everyday objects with a sense of mystery, but also humour, a wink to the audience. It was almost completely wordless, with recordings of Bannon’s mother speaking occasionally adding to the sight onstage. It was beautiful.
Foley Explosion
Another show that was about transforming objects before us was Foley Explosion – like a magician showing us how the trick is done (which tbh is the best kind of magic). It was incredibly dream-like, slipping from one sliver of story to another, sounds transmuting to have one meaning or another. It was slow, allowing itself the time to build what it needed. The outcome was bizarre and beautiful.
Locus Amoenus
I saw Atresbandes perform All In last year and really liked it, after being really annoyed at missing Locus Amoenus. I’m so glad I managed to catch it because where I liked All In I absolutely LOVE Locus Amoenus – the slightly off dialogue, the knowledge that nothing that happens on the train really matters, and the occasional slip away from the scene in front of us to descriptions of other scenesF. It was the kind of play that I wish TV was more like – how great would it be if halfway through a scene in Breaking Bad we saw a random scene that would never be referenced again. Also it was absolutely HILARIOUS. Also there was an extended reference to Zidane’s headbut which is pretty much the only football reference I understand so that made me happy.
Lilith, The Jungle Queen
This show isn’t just on here cause it has the same name as me. Absolutely not. It probably was a large part of why I went to see it though and I am so glad for that because it was one of the most surprising joys of the Fringe, and probably my whole year. It used the ‘human raised by animals’ (in this case lions) story to look at gender, race and colonialism. It had be absolutely roaring$ with laughter, both due to the dry wit of the dialogue and the fact that the pink gunge steadily spread around the stage left the performers slipping around and dragging each other across. Message-wise it was a tough one – the political opinions of the show seemed as slippery as the set, and it was a wonderful example of how you can seriously delve into issues and still be hilarious.
Vs.
It felt like the moments in youth theatre at the end of the warm-ups where you wish you could make an entire show out of games, but they somehow managed to make it beautiful and vulnerable and stressful and fantastic. Watching it I found my reaction ranging from thinking about the apocalypse to just thinking ‘just look how HIGH they can jump. I wish I could jump that high. That is so cool.’
Room For All Our Tomorrows
I have found this really difficult. It is hard summing up why you love something in such a small amount of words and time (especially when you saw it so long ago). I’ve already tried to write a bit about it for Exeunt but couldn’t sum up how I felt about it or why. I think part of it was the magic that I mentioned above – created both by the set (the table turning into a piano and the way-too-much liquid endlessly pouring from the coffee machine) and the bodies on stage in front of us. Maybe it felt a bit like a ritual, maybe it felt a bit like a speeded up daily routine, maybe a timelapse of years going by.
Right it is now 3pm on New Years Eve and I absolutely refuse to publish this in January but I also want to write a bit about other things that I liked in 2017 so it is time to KICK THE PACE UP!
Student Theatre
This isn’t in a separate list because I think student theatre is some kind of lower category than ‘proper theatre’ but I do think about them in different ways and am very biased over a lot of it and anyway it would have just made the first list way, way too long. A lot of this stuff that I loved was at NSDF last year – after having gone the year before and not particularly enjoyed it I loved the festival and so much of the work in it. Thick Skin was a complete surprise, not knowing anything about it until we went in and I thought it was such a smart way to approach racism on stage in a useful way – we don’t necessarily need to be shown another depiction of an obvious racist, but see how jokes and unthinking behaviour can cause harm. I’d been looking forward to seeing Nothing is Coming, The Pixels Are Huge since I saw it had applied for the festival (and desperately hoping it got in)% and it did not disappoint At All – it used hugely impressive technical wizardry to create metaphor and imagery which felt like it could be chewed over for as long as you wanted, pulling out different meanings around how we remember things and what makes us us, and what is missing in the gaps in between. It felt like it was throwing down the gauntlet for what science fiction theatre can be. By the time Celebration was at NSDF I had seen it many times, and I have seen it many times since but for me nothing will beat that first performance in that massive room – I love that show so much and I love the people in it and I cried from joy.
The rest of the shows here are from Warwick. Seeking Intimacy by Eve Allin was a gorgeous use of the campus’ space, wandering one of the mammoth buildings, the white stone and massive windows providing the futuristic yet not setting of the play. It was another wonderful use of science fiction – one of the latest episodes reminded me of it a little, but the play contained much more ambiguity, introducing different interesting facets to the tale of an ever changing dating service. The next piece I can’t actually remember the name of - it was the dissertation piece of three people in my year – but similarly looked at how the internet changed our relationships with each other, but through a completely modern rather than science fiction lens. I often think plays fail to present the internet in a interesting or engaging way – both the need for drama and speed of change means it is all too easy to demonise the net as destroying relationships and communication. I knew that I was going to like this piece as soon as Rosie made a speech defending what great art can be made, even if you could easily text someone. It used a clever mix of live filming, audience interaction, games and monologue to explore different aspects of the internet. My favourite moment was two performers stuffing their faces with marshmallows as they repeated the phrase ‘Anything, even water, can be toxic when too much is consumed’o.
These last two shows I am both very biased on and had very similar reactions to, even though in form they were very different. Those were Portents and Speed Death of the Radiant Child. They are both quite sad shows, built around breakdowns of communication, but they both made me incredibly, incredibly happy. Part of that was the beauty of both shows, from the writing to the lighting, but also I feel that while they may be pessimistic about the outcome, they put a lot of hope in people. The characters are always grasping out to communicate, trying to understand, and even if that attempt leads to their failure the attempt is beautiful.
Books
The feeling that I mentioned just above I think was possibly helped not only by the shows themselves but by what I was reading when I saw them, which was Franny and Zooey and Raise High The Roof Beams, Carpenters both part of JD Salinger’s series of stories about the Glass family. They create in me the exact same feeling and the beauty in them makes me happier, inspires me in what I do, and makes me more accepting of pretention, and of people in general. I honestly kind of think they make me a better person, and I have decided to ration out the rest of Salinger’s 8 stories about the family for when I’m feeling down.
Everything else in this list is science fiction because that’s just the kind of person that I am, and three of the four utopian because of the same reason. The Dispossessed by Ursula Le Guin (which I have been trying to write a blog about since JULY) feels like an amazingly detailed attempt to imagine how another society really could exist. I didn’t love it all – there were a couple of scenes which if it had been written by a man I probably would have hated the book for, which I’m not sure is a good way to approach books but nevermind. However it did contain some beautiful words about hope and community and work and progress which really landed with me. Oddly I also had some uncomfortable ‘would I forgive a man for this’ moments in Too Like the Lighting by Ada Palmer – to be completely honest I’m not entirely sure I LIKED the book, it frequently disturbed me, but I was undeniably hooked, the constant dual mysteries of trying to figure out the actual world of the plot at the same time as the enigma at its heart meant there was a giddy surprise behind every corner and I’m not sure I’ve ever seen so much plot per page. On top of that the use of form and references – a book about the future written in the style of an 18th century novel – made me feel like I was reading something completely unique.
A much more down-to-earth utopia was Malka Older’s Infomocracy. One of the quotes on the back basically describes it as the West Wing for sci-fi nerds so I obviously loved it. It was a neat idea with cool characters and a zippy story. What I found really nice about both this and the previous book is the expertise that the authors brought to the plot – the fact that Palmer teaches 18th century history and Older disaster management meant it felt like I was allowed a glimpse at how different experts saw the world.
My absolute favourite book of the year was Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson. Written in the early days of the internet the world it describes is odd – half super-familiar and prescient and half hilariously dated. I read the entire book with absolute glee; it was perfectly paced, sweeping along the reader so that they were at the extract same point as the characters. It managed to have whole sweeps of the story ruled by connections to Sumerian myth and language theory and be neither patronising nor pretentious (and make a history lesson as exciting as the drug deal it was intercut with). It managed to create a cruel world that still contained a massive amount of love, and good, interesting and exciting characters. It managed to be an exhilarating adventure story which spoke about human communication and the power of language (in an interestingly linked way to Frannie). All this while making jokes about pizza delivery – it was fantastic.
Other things
The NYE party really is starting quite soon and I still have half-finished sentences in the earlier sections which I should go back to so the rest is going to be a bit of a hodge-podge list that is mostly made up of films and cool stuff on the internet.
Patrick by Adam Blampied (https://adamblampied.com/2017/03/27/patrick/) – Is this erotic fan fiction about Patrick Marber? Is it a witty and surprisingly insightful critique of modern theatre? The answer to both of these questions is yes
The Handmaiden – *mild spoilers* I stopped watching the BBC adaptation of the source text for this halfway through cause it made me sad and I’m pathetic. I’m completely glad I did because it made the twist SO SO MUCH SWEETER.
Your Name – Combining a whole load of body-swap comedy and anime tropes and making a really lovely, intricate, original plot.
17776 by Jon Bois (https://www.sbnation.com/a/17776-football) – The other half of the blog post I’ve been writing since July. Everything I want from utopian fiction and stuff on the internet at the same time.
The First Half of Baby Driver – I mean the second half is okay too but in the first half I literally thought it could become one of my favourite ever films – feel like there was a moment on the edge where it could have stepped away from what was expected by instead went back to a more conventional storyline.
The Second Half of Magnolia – I have absolutely no problems with the first half of this film but I watched it over a year before the second half and I gots to stick to the rules. So gorgeous, and with random non-naturalistic bits I wish were in more films.
Spiderman: Homecoming – saw this the day after Baby Driver and really surprisingly enjoyed it more. Fascinating idea of how the crazy Marvel Universe would affect real life, just the right levels of funny, silly and sincere.
The Last Jedi – I JUST LOVE IT AND HAVE NOTHING MORE TO SAY ON THE MATTER.
I have probably missed out a load of stuff I loved this year but it’s time to go sort out some of those half-sentences, so have a good year everybody, can’t wait to see some more great stuff J
***
& I’m realising now (and possibly at the time, who knows) how much it also speaks to my neuroses – how I’m constantly jealous of everything because I want to have achieved what every possible version of me making every possible decision could have done, all at the same time. I think maybe the emerging here is that I like shows that really gently prod at what troubles me.

F Writing this makes me really wish I kept better notes (or any notes at all) on the shows I see.
$ I’m hilarious
% This year the show I’m feeling that towards is ‘Lights Over Tesco Carpark’ – I’m just a sucker for sci-fi with long names
o Disclaimer: this was almost definitely not what they said I just can’t remember the actual phrase

2017 Gift Guide: Tech
There’s a good chance someone in your life has one or two tech gifts on their holiday wish list. The good news is there’s a dizzying array of items merging technology with smart design to choose from now, whether it’s for the home theater enthusiast, the brainiac whiz kid, the budding audiophile, or the aesthete first adopter. We’ve been check-marking tech designs all year for this end of the year gift guide – so, here’s our design-friendly picks to entertain, educate, nourish, and even decorate the home all with technology integral to the experience.
Gantri 3D Printed Table Lamp \\\ starting at $148 A few months ago we spotlighted the emergence of this San Francisco-based company for their intriguing 3D printing and on-demand manufacturing platform. Their catalog of wildly futuristic dimmable LED accent, area, and task lamps has since grown into a tempting selection of shapes and purposes, perfect to gift the person who lights up your life. For the futurist aesthete.
DOIY Le Videpoche \\\ $41 Having a place to drop all the contents of your pockets at the end of the day could mean the difference between always knowing where your phone, wallet, and keys are or having to purchase one of these. Now if they only would make this with wireless charging built into the tray for the new iPhone X… For the perpetually organized (or forever forgetful).
TRNTBL \\\ $499 It’s the first wireless turntable designed to play nice with two of our favorite streaming audio tools right out of the box – Spotify and Sonos. Every deck is hand assembled in either creme or black, and is equipped to identify every record played on its platter, generating a playlist to keep or share via Spotify. It’s the best of both worlds: the sound of analog with the convenience of wireless streaming. For the vinyl lover who already owns Sonos speakers.
JLA M1 \\\ $995 The best technologies lay low, stay invisible until you need their service. That’s why we think this speaker disguised as a side table equipped with an 8″ ultra-low distortion woofer and a 1-1/8″ optimized silk dome tweeter inside a minimalist modern housing is almost a two-for-one bargain. For the audiophile who believes speakers should be heard, not seen.
ANICORN Series 000 Watch \\\ $410 Elegant. The fashionable combination of grey and rose gold adorning the latest Series 000 Watch is a refreshing revamp of a watch formerly available in various shades of black. Beyond the new sophisticated finish, the triple-zero model still comes equipped to keep time accurately via automatic Japanese movement. Three concentric discs turn with every second, minute and hour. The Series 000 is also imprinted with the Swiss font Numeral designed by Dinamos, is water resistant with a 5 ATM rating, protected by an anti-reflective sapphire crystal glass, and operates without a battery. But we’ll admit it, we want it for its looks, not its time-keeping dependability. For the horologist with a thing for typography.
Rylo 360-Degree Camera \\\ $499 Don’t let its small size fool you, this mighty bit of imaging equipment is capable of capturing big, seamless, and immersive 360-degree 4K video through its pair of 208-degree f2.8 lenses. An image stabilization system smooths the frosting, removing bumps and shakes for buttery smooth video playback of action. A gamut of iOS app-based controls invites further experimentation, offering a variety of different editing and focus modes, including subject locking and variable speed playback. It’s also manufactured with a confident heft that promises it can take a ding or two without even noticing. For the adventurer who wants to see the bigger picture in life.
Xbox One X \\\ $499+ The Frame 43” \\\ $1299 We’ve already waxed poetic about The Frame, Samsung’s television designed to double up as a 4K, ultra high definition digital art platform, but we’re excited about this smaller 43″ option because it seems an ideal pairing for the new XBox One X, the most powerful gaming console available today. The +X console is more than capable of showcasing all the merits of 4K resolution HDR technology: games run faster, smoother, brighter, with vivid clarity, yet they’ve somehow reduced the physical size in comparison to its previous incarnation. The combination of power, resolution, and compact size makes the tandem a pretty compelling home entertainment system for the bedroom, den, or home office. For the art lover who with a strong affinity for the artistry of gaming.
Optoma UHD60 4K Projector \\\ $1999 We’ve tested and owned several HD projectors (including a couple of Optoma models) throughout the years, but nothing so gloriously satisfying as this even clearer and brighter 4K UHD 2160p resolution DLP UHD projector. It’s simply badass, for the lack of better words honestly reflecting our opinion. Whether watching movies through Apple TV or XBox, streaming Netflix series, playing video games, or even playing Drawful across a 92″ screen with friends, the pictures put out from the UHD60 never disappoints. It’s the closest we’ll get to an IMAX experience in our modest sized living room. For the cinephile who wants an execeptional picture at a reasonable price.
Nanit Baby Monitor \\\ $364 My friends just welcomed a newborn into their lives, so they seemed ideal candidates to test the Nanit. A few days after handing over the monitor, they emailed back with the following: “Nanit now and forever! The quality is light years ahead of our old video monitor. I used to have to stare at our child for a solid five minutes to detect breathing (as a new mom, you are constantly checking in on their breathing). With Nanit, you can ZOOM IN. The area that the camera covers is also really cool – an overhead shot lets you see so much more than we previously could. It even does a synopsis of the day and night via timelapse video so I can get a snapshot of it all. So not only is it informative, it’s really fun to watch.” For the parents whose favorite channel is BabyTV (aka every parent).
Nespresso Expert \\\ $329 We’re all about the ritual of grinding our own whole beans for a cup of Aeropress or Chemex brewed coffee. But we recognize many drinkers appreciate the convenience and ease of capsule systems. If so, the neo-Art Deco industrial design of this latest Nespresso coffee brewing machine is the most pleasing expression of drop-press-and-brew coffee. A pair of simple dial controls offers satisfying clicks with every turn, allowing users to dial in temperature and intensity with an old audiophile equipment-like feel. The Bluetooth app-connected controls aren’t necessary, but offers a cool additional way to customize a cup of espresso with a swipe and a tap. Pssst, you can always switch to refillable capsules to pack with your favorite local roasts too. For the coffee drinker looking for an elegant and compact design, and who wants to stop drinking from the gross communal carafe in the break room.
Sneakers \\\ $16 + Hex Calibre Sneaker Backpack \\\ $149 They’re calling this new 320 page tome dedicated to the business of sneaker design the “new sneaker bible”, its pages packed with photos and insight about the culture of collectible kicks. Pack a copy inside the dual compartment backpack from one of our favorite tech carry-all accessories maker, Hex and you’ve got business up top, party down below. For the commuter and sneaker freak who wants to carry their laptop and sneakers everywhere they go.
CARY42 \\\ $3029 With just 50 of these portable retro gaming systems slated to be made, these arcade in a box are likely to become an offbeat rare collectible amongst gamers rather than a realistic gift idea. But by chance you’re a hardcore Street Fighter II devotee, this solid American walnut case with a 12″ LCD screen flanked by two 10w stereo speakers and loaded with 100 classic game titles should make it clear you’re always ready to 1-up. For the rich gamer who just has to HADOUKEN at any given moment.
Kano Pixel Kit \\\ $79 I gave a Kano Pixel Kit to my neighbor’s daughter, and a few hours later her mom texted me back a video of her child having what appeared to be the time of her life exploring light and sound. The secret to everything Kano designs is the intuitive features that make learning a byproduct of curiosity and play. The Pixel Kit’s miniature screen is comprised of giant LED pixels capable of reproducing a spectrum of 16 million colors, and programmable using an easy block-based coding language…simple enough for Luddite parents to understand, complex enough for children to want to master. For the kid who doesn’t want to just play games, but code the next Minecraft one day.
