Lenovo Announces a Stylus-Equipped Tablet at CES 2024

While Lenovo's M-series line of tablets have mostly been known by many for their budget-friendly prices and hardware specifications, it looks like the company wants to provide users and loyal fans a new upgrade in terms of what its tablets can do. Enter the Lenovo Tab M11 - announced at CES 2024, the Tab M11 comes with some new tricks up its sleeve, and although it might look a bit familiar (S-Pen, anyone?), it's certainly a welcome upgrade especially compared to previous M-series tab models. What makes it different, however? Let's take a look. New Tool Right off the bat, you'll see that Lenovo has equipped the Tab M11 with a rather useful add-on, in the form of the Lenovo Tab Pen. Given its large display size, we imagine that this will come in handy especially for students who want to use the tablet to take notes in class, artists who want to bang out a few digital sketches, and even users looking to mess around with the Tab Pen using compatible games and software. One could say that it takes a page out of Samsung's playbook, but the added usability is of course very much welcome in this case. Lenovo says that the tablet comes preloaded with software for added productivity, in the form of apps such as Nebo and MyScript Calculator 2, that will come in handy for document editing, and even convert handwriting into text. Of course, Android also allows for multi-tasking, meaning that users can do split-screen tasks such as binging their favourite shows while scribbling away on half of their display. Tech Specs As you can probably tell from the name, the Tab M11 comes with an 11-inch display, which features an FHD resolution and supports HD-compatible content such as Netflix HD, making it ideal for long streaming sessions, whether with movies, shows, or even music. In terms of design, there's not really anything that the Tab M11 gets wrong - sure, the bezels surrounding the display are a bit on the chunkier side of things, but this shouldn't be surprising since the tablet is of course part of the M-series. The tablet also features a quad-speaker setup with tuning by Dolby Atmos, which should be more than enough for most users looking for a device for content consumption. Inside is a MediaTek Helio G88 chipset, which is admittedly not the fastest or most powerful chip out there, but should do an adequate job of handling document processing, schoolwork, and other such functions with the stylus. Other details include a dual-camera setup with a rear and front-facing camera, as well as a 7,040 mAh battery that according to Lenovo can last for up to 10 hours of video streaming, or note-taking in the classroom. As for availability, the tablet is expected to launch sometime in April this year in select markets, for around $180 - based on the asking price, there's not much to complain about here, and folks looking for a relatively-affordable tablet with a built-in stylus will no doubt want to check this one out. My Dilemma with My Android to iPhone Switch

I'm that girl who would literally switch to a new phone just because it's a shade of pink I like. Then I marathon a few videos about that phone only to find myself placing an order after thinking it's meant for me.

That's exactly what happened with my iPhone 13 in- of course, Pink.

This post isn't too technical. I just wanted to document the whole experience so I can look back and learn from my [possible] mistake.

When Apple announced the Pink iPhone, I was immediately obsessed. I'm so on board for the light pink rather than the salmon pink that everyone thought it would be. This was around the time that Samsung released one of the latest phones from the S series that had such beautiful shades of pink (do you see where this is going?). So for weeks, I would watch videos of both releases and would consistently save photos of them on my Pinterest. As a previous Samsung user, I was so used to the interface and how easy it was to navigate everything despite the little changes they did. Okay, let's head on over to my switch.

I got the iPhone 13 in Pink on February 15, 2023. I knew I was gonna love it because, well, it's pink. But I think that was it. It being pink was what sold me. I set up everything that same night and was able to use my phone no problem. But boy was I confused.

You see, I download music on Androids with no hassle at all. The iPhone wouldn't let me do that unless I was on Apple Music or Spotify. I never had to use Spotify on my Androids because I could [don't sue me] download music for free. Now I'm paying for a Spotify plan just to play music offline.

The screen is impeccable, I have to admit. Crisp and clear. Helps really well with my eyes (I have horrible eyesight and I always had to turn on the Eye Comfort Shield thing or whatever on the Samsung and it would turn so warm it messes up my vision). It's so easy to properly fit a wallpaper which was a little hard to do on my Samsung [S20 FE].

Battery life is not the best. Androids are known to last a full week in an island. Okay, that's too far a stretch, but you get me. You can play games, switch screens to others apps and you wouldn't need to worry for an uncharged phone the next day. On the iPhone, I blink and I go from 90% to like an 86%. You would think I got a defected one but I have a friend with the same situation.

Moral of the story is; if you're considering on switching to an iPhone, do it if you're not as extra as me where I want my phone so freaking cute without some restrictions. You can customize your iPhone but it's a tad bit more complicated.

Also, the emojis are so aesthetically pleasing on the iPhone but we get a baby pink heart on the Samsung. There's also so much more options. I don't mind camera resolutions as much because both are doing a great job.

Think very well about switching.

If you haven't seen "Shining Live Twitter"

Dear God it was a mess So Yesterday was supposed to be the final part of the Spring Update for Shining Live (or it might be now come to think of it but anyways) and BOY DID WE HAVE A PROBLEM! So every time we do an update there are one of two ways you can get it 1. The App Store for your device of choice (So Apple for iOS people and Google play for us Android Plebs) Or 2. QooApp which ,for the most bizarre fact I can ever tell you, can be used to update SPOTIFY! ANYWAYS... So people got the Update and it was version 5.4.5. or as we might as well call it "The Doomsday Version for Android Users" because it actually has crashed the game SPECIFICALLY for Android Users as people haven't been able to get into the game because what would happen is this You would get to the title screen fine and then tap the screen and it would do what it usually does for an update with the loading bar and all that goodness right? Problem is the bar itself would freeze up but you could see the background moving. No problem right? Just close app and then restart right? Yeah no... What happened next was a series of dominoes that has a some people PISSED! See typically speaking when there might become issues with the app because of a specific Android version Shining Live is pretty good on keeping on top of this and letting people know that something might go wonky if you upgrade to a specific version. Now so far I've been lucky because every time there has been an update (both to the game and my Android tablet) the game works as it should...well I say that but even before what happened today there have been some weird issues with the game not the least of which was lag and occasional hard closing (where the game would crash and you couldn't get back into it let alone get to the title screen). Lately before this episode took place the game was having issues with lag and there are sometimes issues where you would tap the notes proper but the game registered misses (to be fair this last one could be chalked up to "Legacy issues" but it is still freaking annoying). The irony of this issue is that it happened the day of the final event of the month and the final round of the Spring Update (which was split into three parts and ,to be honest, this has been the most underwhelming Update of all of them IMHO). One would think that ,before this got pushed out to QooApp or the Play Store it would have been tested properly so no issues could be found. What is more bizarre is that the issue itself only affected Android players and that made no real sense to me at all! You know what ELSE doesn't make sense? So I have had the new tablet that I was playing SL on now for about a year and I never suffered any hard lag issues on my other Samsung tablet (which is still at my desk now) so that is a problem for me...but there is also THIS! Shining Live is a 2-D idol game and is the least demanding between IT and the other game I will compare it to here in EnStars Music...do you know that in the year that I have played EnStars Music's JP version on and off I have NEVER really got a bad hiccup with performance in any way and I was running that game in 3-D mode to play the performances or "Music Videos" when I would play the songs outright. How the hell is it that a game like EnStars ,a game that should be more demanding on my tablet, can be played virtually with no issues on my year old tablet but a 2-D game in Shining Live has had lag issues and now this? It literally makes NO SENSE! Shining Live needs to do better and FAST because ,from what I hear June 16th is when EnStars' Global release comes out and you know something? I got a feeling Happy Elements WILL NOT tolerate something like this. You can love them or hate them for other reasons and I get it trust me but man...after this issue I'll be really freaking happy when they get their game out trust me on that!

Everyday Acts of Witchcraft

I find it personally important to stay connected to my craft on a day to day basis, since I’m the type of person who lets things fall to the wayside sometimes, so I like to do small acts of magic in my everyday life. Even if it’s not something big and fancy and done up, it’s still keeping connection with my spiritual self. If I’m being honest, I’ll probably update this list at some point in the future, but I just wanted to gather some of the things I tend to do daily in one spot. It makes it easier for me to find and just might help someone who’s looking to do the same thing. I’m DEFINITELY still learning and still on the path of discovery for my craft, but I figured that jotting things down can’t hurt, and sharing information could be useful to someone. Without further ado, here are some of my mundane magicks.

Tarot App

I’m someone who’s always busy. Always going somewhere or doing something, its mostly work but I don’t think my boss would like me pulling out my deck of tarot cards in the back of a Starbucks. The app sends me a reminder for my daily reading, and you have access to a couple of different spreads with an easy interface to use. It lets me shuffle my cards and choose at my pace, which is something I really appreciate. I have a Samsung, and the app I use is Galaxy Tarot. While I prefer the traditional deck by far, its useful on the run.

Moon Calendar

I like having a moon calendar handy to keep track of moon phases. It’s a lot easier to forget I have an app on my phone and check it when I remember I have it than to google it every time. You could also keep this in a notebook or mark it on a normal calendar as well.

Intent

I do multiple things with specific intent throughout the day. Sometimes its a shower with the intent of scrubbing off negativity and starting anew, other times it could be stirring my tea clockwise to invite positivity and warmth into my life. Tailor it to your task and you can do almost anything with intent like this.

Cleansing/Cleaning

Okay, hear me out. Clutter messes with my head a lot, I feel off my game and my mood plummets in a messy area. I tend to notice a stagnant vibe and the energy of the room feels off as well. I tend to clean my space with the intent of banishing any negative energy or energy that no longer serves me positively. Sometimes I light candles or incense while I clean, sometimes I light sage, sometimes I blast music, it depends on the day. Cleaning my space and cleansing my space go hand in hand most times though.

Research

I try to devote a little bit of time out of every day to look into a topic that interests me and learn more about it. It keeps me learning and growing, and it tends to be more fun than I think it will be.

I know there are more things to add but I can’t think of them for the life of me. Either way, its a good reference point to look back on if I need to, and its not long to read! If I think of any more I’ll be sure to add them!

Note: I’m pretty sure I made this list last summer and since school finally over I figured I would reflect on these and see how well I did and how I could improve. Linked below is the original post that has all of the goals I will be talking about, but since I write them down here I’m sure you don’t need to read it to understand what I am talking about, but I put it there just in case. This is just a review of my goals from last year, I will create a separate post for my new goals for this summer and next year.

⊳ Money

Goal #1: Work towards saving more of your paychecks ✓

I did a good job of saving money, but I went back and forth as time went on. During the summer I would spend money at work during my breaks but I was making way more than I am currently during the school year. I would still spend money like I was when I was making more, but when I learned that I got better at budgeting my cash. 

Now that I have a car and have a monthly bill for it as well as gas, I am getting better at saving the money I need for the said bill. 

I plan on moving out within the year so I need to save up as much as I possibly can. I am moving out with two of my best friends, if all goes as planned, we will be splitting rent and bills between the three of us. 

Goal #2: Put half of checking into a savings account on payday ✖ I did this for a while, but then I saw that it wasn’t really helping me as much as I thought it would. I would end up having like $6 in my checking account before payday comes so I didn’t see a point in just transferring $3 when I was going to get more of it, so what I did was estimate how much money I would need for the week and then put the rest in savings. If I knew I was going out or had bills to pay during that week, I would leave that money in the account. This proved to work way better for me than what I had originally planned to do. 

What I ended up doing was creating a separate savings account for my new house/apartment so I had an emergency account and a moving out account. I would only use my emergency account for things like bills, unpredicted expenses, or big purchases such as a new laptop for school and blogging. But I keep it at $500, just in case I needed it. Right now it’s at like $450 since I needed to pay my car bill and I didn’t work much this week, but what I do is I rebuild it as fast as possible and hopefully, I do not need to take more money out of it.

When I am rebuilding my emergency fund, not as much or no money goes into my “moving out” account, so I am more motivated to save money so I can get both accounts back in order. I am going back to my old job this summer, since it is seasonal work, and I know I am going to be working close to 40 hours a week since I will be 18 they would work me as much as possible, which I like since it’s a job I love with wonderful coworkers. Not to mention we get so many gift cards it’s not even funny. We all love free money. 

*Update: My family has encouraged me to stay home while I am studying at a college that I am commuting to. My father said he won’t charge me rent as long as he can afford to keep me at home and even if he does it won’t be more than $100 a month which he and I agreed on for a price. That account is now for saving up for a new car. 

Goal #3: Have a spending limit when going out ✓

This goes along with what I was saying before about leaving money in my checking account if I have plans to spend it. I like planning my week out and so I tell my friends if they want to make plans they need to do it a few days in advance so I can see if I don’t have work or scheduled time to study, since I am the “nerd” if my group, all of my friends respect how I plan things. 

They also respect when I tell them I don’t have money to go out. Sometimes I’d rather save my money than use it on movie tickets, of course with the occasional splurge here and there on a new pair of shoes or a delicious dinner. When times get like that, we all agree to do something else that is either really cheap or free, such as having a sleepover or going to the park. 

Goal #4: Establish an “okay amount” to spend daily on coffee, breakfast, etc. ✖

I also did this for a little while, putting away $15 every check to get coffee in the morning before school. Since saving money is a learning experience, I’m messing up now rather than ten or twenty years from now. Doing this put be at risk for developing bad spending habits, $3-$4 a day adds up way faster than you think, the next thing you know you’re spending over $50 in a month for morning coffee runs. Now I’m not saying I never go to buy food and coffee before or after school, sometimes it’s great to treat yourself by doing so. Typically, I buy creamers and coffee grounds to make at home and sometimes I’ll buy a bundle of bananas to last me the week. I saw that not only did it save me money, it also saved me about a half hour in the morning. Meaning a half hour more of sleep. 

While my coffee brews I walk my dog for a few minutes so she can go to the bathroom before everyone else in the house wakes up, and I start my car so it can run a bit before I leave. This is especially good since where I live the weather is unpredictable and it can frost over my windows at any time. If I catch this early enough I can defrost my windows before I go to school.

For about a month I would do something called “Fuck it Friday” where I bought coffee, snacks, whatever I wanted since I get paid every Friday. I saw that when I did this, I would just end up spending the amount I typically would in a whole week in one day, so I quickly stopped doing that and I plan on going back to making coffee at home. Goal #5: Add spare change to change dispenser in car ✖

I don’t use cash that often, which means I don’t really get change, but when I do have some lying around, it normally goes right into a bank I have in my room. When I have change in my car, I do tend to put it into the dispenser but then I’ll sometimes use it to give to the people asking for spare change or to buy a piece of candy at the store.

⊳ Languages

Goal #1: Take review notes of language material learned over the summer ✓

I did a really good job over the summer with posting a lot here, at least in my opinion, but when the school year started I posted a little less. In my first semester, I had a bit more time to post multiple times a week for multiple blogs, but when the second semester hit I began to prioritize my schooling over languages and blogs. I started to post at least once a week, but I noticed my language learning for Korean and Italian has gone down a lot because of it.

I take French in school so I practice it every day, and there are so many French posts I have drafted I’m in love. During the summer I worked more on Italian and Korean since my French was already way way way better, and I knew I would be taking it as a class during the school year.  Goal #2: Listen to podcasts in the halls instead of music ✖

I really was going to do this, but right as summer ended I lost my apple headphones and I was not going to spend thirty dollars or so to get new ones, so I just didn’t have podcasts. I have my old phone, which is a Samsung, for music so I just used that with regular headphones.

Even when I got apple headphones from my dad’s fiancee, I still didn’t really listen to podcasts. I think it’s because I don’t want to start a new one or a new audio lesson if I am just walking three minutes to my next class. When I go back to my old job, however, that’ll change. It’s part of a program with my school for getting students into the workforce, so there is a bus that provides us with transport. I have a 45-minute ride there and an over 2-hour long ride back. No excuses to not listen to a podcast or two!

Goal #3: Mondly/Duolingo and Lingodeer during breakfast/as a part of your morning routine ✖

I used to be really good at doing these daily, but then I lost motivation. Even before I would never have a long streak, but I would just try to do it as often as possible to make up for it. There was a time where I didn’t even look at these apps for over a month, but I didn’t notice much of a change in my language comprehension. But I want to get back into it since I don’t have a lot of time now to sit down and do a couple of grammar lessons.  Goal #4: Post weekly to studyblr/langblr for Italian and Korean review notes of what you studied over the summer. ✓

Again, I feel like I did a better job with this during the summer and my first semester of this year. I have several vocab lists saved just in case I don’t feel like studying but I need to do my weekly post. There are some times when I’ll be really motivated for no reason and just make like twelve vocab lists and I draft them for future use.

⊳ Health/Lifestyle

Goal # 1: Wake up at 6am ✓

Waking up early does not equal productivity, I learned that the hard way. I wake up that early for school, but during the weekends or on breaks I wake up normally at 8-9am if I don’t have to work that morning, which I rarely do since I work the night shift (typically around 1-12am I work). 

Goal # 2: Go to bed at 10pm - 11pm ✖

If I am not working I go to bed at around 11pm at the latest, but there are some nights I get home at around 11:30 so I don’t sleep until 1-2am. This is usually weekends so I don’t have an issue since in my state it’s illegal to work minors after 10pm on a school night and 11pm on a weekend. 

But now that I’m 18 and it’s summer, I can anticipate a lot of overnight shifts or longer hours! I’m not complaining, I’d rather work at night than in the daytime anyway. 

Goal # 3: 5-minute workouts or 10-minute abs in the morning and evening or after school  ✖ Hahaha, I never did this. I’m never gonna do this.   Goal # 4: Floss more ✖ Not happening either, that’s too much man. It’s not that big in my life to floss, even if my dentist tells me to do it more. I have no cavities, no gum issues, so I’m good. Goal # 5: Take your medicines daily ✓ This I’ll admit, I need to do more. Sometimes I’ll go a few days without my meds, but it’s not important that I take them daily, since they are “as needed” medicines. I should take them at least every other day, but I am getting better at that.  Goal # 6: Morning and Nightly Skin Care Routine ✓ I started off slow by only doing my routine in the morning and then occasionally going a nightly routine. My skin is really sensitive so this worked for me, putting on too much product would either make my skin too dry or too oily. If the weather is affecting my skin, I’ll add on an extra moisturizer if need be. 

Basically, I only do a night time routine when I get home from work or school late and my face feels really gross. Since I shower at night I wash my face with a gentle cleanser in the shower. That’s usually it. 

Goal # 7: Face mask while you study ✓   Doing facemasks too often also negatively affects my skin as well. I normally do one when I’m with my friends or when my skin really needs it.

Again, I need to do this way more often than I do. I think this is mainly because the water fountains at my school are utterly disgusting. I don’t know if it’s because our school is under construction, but it’s always been gross if I remember correctly.

Goal #1: SAT Fee Waiver ✓ 

THIS SAVES LIVES. At my school, if you have free or reduced lunch, you get fee waivers for all sorts of things. AP Exams, Applications, even SAT Exams. You only get two for the SAT so you need to use them wisely. Most students don’t even know that their school offers fee waivers that either cover costs completely or reduce the fee. Make sure you ask, it doesn’t do any harm!

Goal #2: October SAT  ✓

I took the October SAT and got a 1050, which is way over than what the school I wish to go to is asking for. Then I retook the exam in June since I had one more waiver left, and I got a 1080. Now the college I want to go to has a 960 SAT Average and I needed at least a 500 on the Math and English portions to be exempt from the entrance exams.

Goal #3: Research application deadlines ✓ My school was a big help with this, especially since I’m starting at community college for my first two years. I’m accepted as a student and have already selected my classes, but there were some issues with my FASFA that I still need to resolve.  Goal #4: Check scholarship board ✓ My school was also a big help with this as well, they print out all the available scholarships for that month, the criteria, AND the due dates! All I had to do was complete the applications, no fishing for free money. 

Goal #5: Study at least 15 minutes a day ✓

I was strong with this with my first semester classes, since I enjoyed the work and had daily tasks I needed to do for one of the classes. When the second semester came, things changed. Most of my classes are easy, no homework and very little classwork that I got done early. All but AP Calc. 

The way my teacher is, he doesn’t grade the problem sets he assigns. He’ll give us class participation points if we are working in class, but the problems are mainly for our own benefit. I don’t let myself not do the problems just because I won’t get a grade I’m struggling in that class now and I do all that I can to bring my grade up, but it’s not really doing much. If this is the only class I fail, then I’m glad it's AP Calculus AB and not English or something. I don’t need calc to graduate or to still obtain scholarships, it was an extra class I regret taking.

Goal #1: Watch more Netflix when stressed ✓ I found that I’m not much of a TV or Show person unless it’s a really good show that I get hooked on. I’d much rather destress by having time to myself and browsing social media for hours.  Goal #2: Take your time with everything ✓ This allowed me to get better with time management, taking things slow, thinking carefully, and making myself okay with the idea of rescheduling plans. Goal #3: Think before you speak/act ✓ Doing this made me do things I was glad I did and knew I would never do if I hadn’t thought it out. I became the friend who would do and say the things everyone else was afraid of.  Goal #4: Try listening to others about their day ✓ This kind of went along with the goals #2 and #3 but this also worked out for me and I feel it made me somewhat of a better person??? Yea, just listen to people when they talk to you and ask them questions. Let them know you care about them, you don’t know how much it could raise their spirits.  Goal #5: Attend Coalition meeting (every third Friday) ✖ As much as I wanted to, I could not attend meetings. I didn’t have an adult representative from my school to escort me and possibly other students, therefore I could not attend meetings.

It had been a brutal week of pretending I knew what the fuck I was doing at my day job. I had my suspicions I was probably gonna get found out that week. I made it through.

I sorta know how real life works from TV but I don’t spend a lot of time out there. I spend a lot of time alone with my stupid thoughts that melt the steel beams of my life every once in awhile. I’ve been in this period of trying to get “right” again recently. I know I’m gonna be too anxious and inept to drive out there so I don’t. I summon a poor soul with the Uber app on my Samsung personal surveillance device to get me out there into the land of pick-up trucks and country music and maybe god damn Trump supporters. 

Yeah. This shindig or whatever the fuck was way the hell out there. The Uber drivers I get when I use this terrible, dystopian service are usually these motor-mouthed go-getters who probably do a lot of Adderall or they tend to be these earnest, polite immigrants just trying to make it in this fucked up, racist, brutal country. I get this gentleman from Eritrea who barely says a word the entire ride. I should note that before I got in the car about 15 minutes before, I had ingested some cannabis infused chocolate. If I’m not mistaken, that put about 10 milligrams of THC into my system. I then pick up on something. 

The driver of this Toyota Prius criss-crossing it’s way through this autumn night is getting worried, he’s getting flustered. He is getting lost. Oh shit. See, I haven’t been in the exact same spot this guy was in but I know what it’s like to feel utterly alone in the night. I know what it’s like to feel sweat collecting on the back of your neck. I know what it is to feel like your body is itching with fear and dread. He starts apologizing to me. Something happens to me. I know what I gotta do. 

“Brother, don’t worry about it,” I say. “Do not worry. Aight. Just go straight and follow the road for a few miles. You don’t gotta turn for a bit.” 

THIS IS FUCKING CRAZY TO ME BECAUSE I’M NOT USED TO BEING THIS CALM CAT THE UNIVERSE PUTS IN PEOPLE’S PATH BUT THAT’S WHAT I’M GONNA DO FOR THIS GUY. 

He thanks me and thanks me and thanks me.

He calmed down. I’m not sure when I started to feel the cannabis. I’m not sure if me being so fucking kind is the cannabis or if that’s just me. It’s just me. Being alive has hurt me in the weirdest ways and as a result, I’m basically a wannabe Mr. Rogers who is angrier and curses a lot. 

I get to the party. I guess it had a circus theme. There was this circus tent. My friend is in a cover band. 

I walk in. I have a brief conversation about the health impact of vaping and I deftly steer the conversation away from whether Trump is really all that bad. The weed was starting to kick in. I was high but I sure as fuck ain’t stupid. I ingested the second piece of cannabis infused chocolate that I had in my coat pocket. I’m starting to feel it. I know I am. 

I’m in uncharted territory. When I’m high, I’m usually alone. Yep. I am the weirdo that gets high and will just let the chips fall where they may. Sometimes I cry. Sometimes I write. Sometimes I just waste time. So, there I was getting higher and higher around a bunch of strangers. 

Some of the things I say that night, 

“Holy shit. Is this what an episode of Miami Vice is like?” 

“See. I feel like I should tell you. What you’re seeing right now is a cat who don’t get out much.” 

“We don’t need secret police. We build the dossiers on ourselves. It’s crazy, man.” 

“I’m too old for this shit.” 

“FREEBIRD!” 

“THATCHER WAS A CUNT AND I’M GLAD SHE’S DEAD!” in a dubious working class English accent. 

At some point I get offered beer. I don’t ever drink. In fact, I will admit that I had never been drunk before. I start drinking and drinking and drinking. I end up stoned as fuck and somewhat drunk on um light beer. I can feel my inhibitions lower. I’m definitely keenly aware of it. I shout things at the top of my lungs. I even dance and don’t really give much of a fuck how it looks. 

The lowered inhibitions start to concern me. I lean in close to my friend. I say in his ear, “When you get a minute, I need to talk to you.” He nods. See, I ain’t used to alcohol. It’s the weirdest thing. I’m very accustomed to being very high on marijuana and I’ve lived to tell about a few intense trips on psilocybin mushrooms. Alcohol just isn’t something I have a lot of practice with. In fact, being out ain’t something I have a ton of practice with. 

I become intensely concerned about what I might do while under the influence. I worry I might become Brett Kavanaugh. I’m terrified I might flip out and kill someone. I nod to my friend’s friend. He’s dressed like The Driver from Drive and has this weird kinda charisma. I see something in him. I see a kindness. I see a light in that man. I ask him if he’ll step outside with me. In fact, I’m pretty sure I say something like, “Forgive me if this is weird but will you step outside with me for a second?” He doesn’t even question it. We step outside and I lay it all out. 

“Like I said. I don’t get out much. I don’t get fucked up with other people around so this is a new experience. Do you ever worry about what you might do under the influence and does that scare you?” 

I actually start crying. I don’t even recall what he says now. I just recall that he listened to me. He told me it was okay. I remember telling him that something told me I could come to him with that. I told him that even as a complete stranger, I could sense the goodness in him. I told him he was a good man. 

Yeah. So, I got to be the shepherd and the shepherded that night. 

I spend some time just chilling outside in the dark. I get to talking more to the dude who was dressed as The Driver. As I write this, I am sober but everything is slow. I feel sluggish. In retrospect, I say too much. I guess that it might be kind of a bad idea to get all cross-faded like that. That’s a young man’s game and I ain’t so young any more. I say too much. I guess that’s what happens when you don’t get out much and you’re drunk and high, you start sharing the thoughts that terrorize when you’re alone in a dark room. 

I spill about my upbringing. My overprotective mother that wouldn’t let me out of her sight and wouldn’t let me grow up. I talk about how I BS my way through like half my day job. Driver tells me how badass that is. I feel the need to keep mentioning I don’t get out much. He tells me, “You’re an astronaut, dude. Exploring new worlds.” I say, “I know what you’re saying but that’s a little too dramatic.” 

I spill about the heroic mushroom trip. I talk about how dreamlike everything was. I talk about how I had only messed with shrooms a time or two before but the last time, I suddenly found myself drowning in a psychedelic ocean. I tell him about coming to grips with how weird and terrifying that could get. I look over at him with a straight face, I say, 

“This is the part where you tell me about Jesus.” 

I was kidding. He says, 

“Do you wanna pray with me?” 

“What? Are you fucking with me?” 

“No man.” 

I size him up. “You’re being sincere.” 

“Yeah man.”

“I did not see that coming. I don’t know how to respond.” 

“You think mushrooms are amazing. Wait til you commune with the creator of the universe.” 

God damn it. This is a hell of a plot twist. 

“Do you want to pray with me?” 

“No offense but I don’t feel led to do that.” 

“That’s cool, man. I’ll pray for you though.” 

“Aight. I just wanna say though, if you are only talking to me to get a convert, you can fuck all the way off. That’s not comic exaggeration. That is not me playing a character. Fuck all the way off if that’s what you’re doing.”

I had more intense, way too intimate conversations that night. I don’t feel the need to recount any more of them. 

I get home somehow. I don’t sleep much. I only sleep about four hours or so. I have a lazy Saturday. I don’t feel quite normal all day. I feel tired and need to take a nap at some point. 

My soul changed. A little. Maybe.
