Happy Friday everyone! We are in the final 5 episodes of S1. Can't believe it. Thank you to everyone who's been on this ride with me.

1x16 Greenlight

Let me start with this. This is the episode I always dread watching for s1. Not cause it isn’t good. Its very good. Heartbreaking but well done. Always makes me cry with Capt Anderson... Well off we go. FYI This episode was sadly a gif desert. Which is sad since it's Zoe Anderson's Swan Song. So I'm going to be using a lot of screen shots I took with my phone to fill the gaps ha.

Episode starts off with Capt Anderson telling them all about doing reversals this week. Having undercover cops making sure everyone is on the up and up. Reporting back to IA what they discover. Tim isn’t a fan of these. Feels it’s just cops ratting out other cops. Think's its a waste of time and resources.

Lucy needless to say has an opinion on the matter. She thinks if it helps their image to the public she doesn’t see the problem. That it even sounds like its worth doing. Tim being the deeply loyal person he is doesn’t see it that way. (He also has some past issues with IA) He sees it as a betrayal not something that will help them in the long run internally. Tim goes on to say it has to do with trust. How can they trust one another if they’re trying to get each other to screw up?

Lucy makes a crack about his Tim tests in her rebuttal. You can see it rubs him the wrong way when she does. Always challenging him. I do love that about her. Makes him think about why he does what he does. His heart is in the right place when it comes to those tests. Especially with Lucy. I think whenever she gives him crap for his tests it unintentionally brings up his dad issues. Its why he's so defensive. That's far in the future those being addressed but I think it still holds true. Clearly she has no idea she's doing that. He sure as hell doesn't realize thats the reason yet either. But that's a discussion to be had in the distant future.

To Tim he’s building her up to be the best cop she can be. Doing it to protect her for when she’s on her own someday. To have Lucy reach the potential he see's in her. If he didn’t do that he would fail her as her T.O. So once again his intentions are good natured when to comes to that. To her. For Tim its giving her the best tools he can. Lucy knows this but can’t help but give him a hard time about it. She wouldn't be her if she didn’t do this. Hehe it’s written all over her face in that last gif above.

First off I love me some wet Tim Bradford. A+ visual right here. Second Lucy is so cute being all star struck by Mario Lopez. It is funny to watch Tim be rude to him. Because Mario and Eric are close in real life. Sure they both had a blast filming this scene. That cute little smile on her face dissipates when Tim hands her back his stuff.

She knows it’s right back to business. Mario takes the worst tactic he could with them. Honestly its what gives him away. By trying to bribe his way out of his ticket. Tim is already on edge due to these reversals and this sets him off. As he is reading Mario the riot act he realizes this is a reversal. Then he looks over and see’s Murphy from IA in her car across the street. He sets off to talk with her.

She makes a bitchy comment right off the bat. That if she knew it was going to be him, she would’ve put a strung out cop behind the wheel. He would let them get away with it then. I want to punch her in the damn face. He’s worked so hard to get past all that and she’s drudging it up like it’s nothing. There is a history there we don't know about just yet as the viewer. All I do know is I do NOT like her.

After this Tim goes fully off and lists a million different ways to write him up. Lucy just stands there not sure if he’s serious or not. Poor Tim…Murphy pulling at the sutures of his emotional wound so he’s lashing out. Lucy has no idea what she said to him or why he's going off. Mario's reaction to the laundry list of offenses is too funny.

They later respond to a break in at a grow house. Guy who broke in is stuck in a bear trap. Tim was already on edge before but after his talk with Murphy he’s off the charts. Guy says he’ll split half the crop with them if they let him go. Lucy laughs and Tim says ‘Ok’ her reaction is hilarious LOL

He mentions Detective Murphy and reporting back to her. See if she would like that deal. The guy is confused af as is Lucy. It’s shortly after that she realizes Tim thinks this is another reversal. Murphy got in his head so quickly makes me sad. Has Tim all turned around and he's convinced this is a second reversal. He tries to remove the bear trap from the guys legs thinking its a fake. Tim quickly realizes it’s real...and the guy passes out.

They get back to the station and Lucy says he’s lucky that guy gonna keep his leg. It's clear he isn't in the moods for jokes. Tim is agitated and replies it’s the reversals not him. That Murphy has gotten in his head. (To say the least love) Otherwise he would've realized that guys injury was real. Lucy can sense there is more going on here than he’s saying. No one has ever been able to read Tim Bradford the way she does. She knows its more than just the reversals that is under his skin.

Lucy asks what went down between him and Detective Murphy? She's trying to put the pieces of the puzzle together. Wondering what is at the root of his anger today. She asks if he was investigated by her or something. He tries to be vague and say ‘Indirectly...’ It’s then Lucy puts two and two together and realizes it’s about Isabel. She voices this thought. Tim freezes and takes a deep breath before he explains the connection she suspects.

Lucy is confused why this detective is giving him a hard time still. She doesn't understand why she's coming at him so hard. Lucy mentions he’s not Isabel so what’s her beef with him? She's coming off a little protective of him in the process. (which I love) Its her natural instinct to try and work this out with him.

Their relationship is in a weird limbo at this point. Where they aren’t friends yet, but it’s clear what they have is more than the standard T.O./Rookie relationship. They’re still establishing what’s going on between them. So things are bound to still be a little rocky especially when his personal life is involved. Regardless of this fact her concern for him and his well being is evident and she voices as such.

Sadly Tim isn’t in the headspace to receive it and snaps at her. His reply is reminiscent of his early days with her. Her reaching out only to get her head bit off. Only this time she walks away dejected, retreating to lick her emotional wounds. No retort for her. It feels like he's regressing in this moment. Tim has grown a lot but also still has a long way to go. This is showing that Isabel is still such a sore spot for him. Not only that but Murphy has gone after something dear to him. His integrity and character.

The way she popped off about Isabel was her shot at that. Tim isn’t ready to open up to Lucy right now. This a wound that has only just begun to scab over. He’s currently in his head raging and fighting demons he thought he had put to rest. Makes me more agitated with Murphy tbh. The fact that she's brought this angry insecurity out in him.

I do love Tim being the first to stand up for Nolan when he shows up after being Green-lit. Him coming back to work was a big decision. Everyone follows suit after Tim. Something sexy about him doing that to me. Probably one of the very rare times he actually admires Nolan as a cop LOL

Tim see’s the detective as they’re gearing up to go out and engages her. Asking why she’s here. The way Murphy misjudges Tim makes my blood boil. Her POV of him is so skewed. She is trying to get him to crack under pressure. She is goading him in order to get him to snap like Isabel did. Having this vendetta against him because of what happened before. It's so wrong. Like she’s never had someone she loved enough to be blind when they’ve messed up. The hurt in his eyes makes me wanna cry. You can see the shift in them from anger to shame in that first gif. Damnit Eric you’re killing me. Goes on to say she’s gonna file a conduct unbecoming complaint against him. Tim instantly gets defensive. Tells her what a Busch League move that is.

Lucy spots the way she is riling him up. Baiting him. Steps in and distracts him away from her. Such a good wifey. What I love about this scene other than the obvious protective Lucy we get to see. Its the fact she is using the same mechanisms on him that he does for her when she’s highly emotional. Tim knows she doesn’t actually need his help. That Lucy is using it as diversion but he listens. She gets him to disengage and walk away. Which is HUGE. She knows him so well and is protecting him from further battle with this woman.

The look on Lucy’s face when she basically tells a superior officer to F-off is glorious. She does this in the most Lucy way ever. Meaning business but respectful by tacking ‘ma’am ‘ on at the end haha F U with a cushion. Lucy isn’t going to let this woman throw Tim off balance anymore than she already has. She takes a stand and makes her back the hell off him. I love seeing protective Lucy. She’s watched Murphy rattle his cage all damn episode. This anger she is invoking in Tim is making him go crazy and regress.

I know his short fuse earlier with Lucy was due to this. He hasn't snapped at her like that in awhile. The detective has no idea the emotional wounds she’s re-opening. The way she’s split his focus since their first convo earlier. Or maybe she does.. Either way Lucy isn’t going to stand for it any longer. That's what this scene represents. Her shoving back best she can to give him breathing room. She has his back 100 % and will protect Tim from her. So proud of her. Standing up for him when he was too muddled to do it for himself.

We get to part of the episode I dread the most..but I have to say watching the balls on Anderson during this scene is amazing. Her and Nolan get captured by Cole and she shows no fear only confidence. Telling him what an idiot he was for capturing a police captain. She was such a BAMF till the very end. Took out his entire crew single handed. This was after she un-cuffed herself by breaking her thumb underwater.

God this scene is hard to watch every single time I have to do it. The only reason she died was an errant bullet from Cole. It’s as unfair as its gets and a very tragic end to her character. The look on her face as she falls back into the water. Ugh hurts to watch happen. If nothing else she went down like the bad ass we all know she was though. Nolan holding her as they all arrive kills me. The utter shock on all their faces when they see their captain lying there. Beyond heartbreaking.

If this scene right here doesn’t make you tear up I think you might be dead inside lol The reactions from everyone as they wheel her out. Especially Lucy and Angela. My heart. The way they’re all trying to keep it together and saluting her. That single tear Angela lets escape after she's loaded into the ambulance. Ugh hurts my heart. Such a gut punch from the writers. I remember being so shook when this first aired. Nolan telling her how sorry he is. It's all kinds of sad.

Grey comes in like a raging bull after Midas, he easily gives up his son when he finds out he’s killed their captain. Tells them where he's going to be. They all wait at a check point for him to arrive. Tim and Lucy are standing together readying themselves. Tim is trying to console her. He knows she and the Capt. were close. Had a bond.

Tim Tells her whether this guy lives or dies it won’t make things better. Lucy says she knows and he answers her you only think you do. She tells him she can’t handle him telling her that grief will make her better cop right now. His reply is perfection. ‘I'm not. Grief is grief. It’s a hole that can’t be filled. But over time, it’ll shrink enough so that you won’t fall in every time you take a step.’

You can see he reverts back to the Tim he was before his run ins with Murphy. He continues on tells her if she’s going to use anything to be a better cop it’ll be her life not her death. You can see its resonates with Lucy. The look on her face shows its hitting home. It's a damn shame this moment doesn't have a gif set. it’s a wonderful one between them.

Tim sees Detective Murphy after they arrest Cole and goes after her despite Lucy’s protests. He’s ready to throw down again when she says Grey wanted her to witness this. For IA to see how well they were going to handle it. She says she’s sorry about their Captain. That she really liked her. Also lets him know she wasn’t going forward with his conduct unbecoming complaint against him.

That he was right. It was Busch League. She turns to leave and Tim stops her. He then does something I don’t think Murphy expects. He tells her she was right too. Says Anderson would want him to say this. Which I adore so much. He's honoring her by doing this. Her impact was so profound on all of them.

I’m so damn proud of him in this scene. Look at my man continue to grow. He’s completely honest with her. Admits his part in her being an addict and not reporting it towards the end. He is so god damn sincere in the way he explains it. Gets me. Says at the end of the day she was his wife and all he wanted was to help her.

Murphy sees this and finally relents. Asking Tim how she’s doing now. He tells her she’s better. She’s clean. Murphy is also sincere and tells him she’s glad and walks away. Their conflict finally at rest. His strides forward as a character are still there. Just took a little backseat with his issues/demons being re-opened against his will. He’s not a perfect man and that's ok. Makes him so real He's a beautiful WIP. ❤️

Non Chenford Notes-

The whole SL with Anderson kills me. She had a short stint on this show but such an impactful one. I always mourn her when she goes.

Sorry for the lack of gifs there wasn’t a ton to choose from. But it’s a damn good ep none the less. Emotional af for lot of reasons. Gets me every time I rewatch it.

Natsu Harem: Fairy GET! 14/14

Made it to the end of this little carnival ride.... (人◕ω◕) As far as you guys know. More on that later, though~

Who could I possibly round out this group with? Gee, I wonder who it could be? (人◕ω◕) Sorry. If you've followed me at all over the years, you know I'd never leave Erza-chan out. Erza Scarlet~...

Is it predictable? I don't care. I'm violently opposed to Jerza for... many reasons. But I'll leave it at that cuz I've talked about it loads in the past. I was there when the manga was ongoing, and NaLi and Natza were dunked on very frequently. Natza is the progenitor of my Natsu ships, the "Naezono" if you will. ... Though I was into Fairy Tail way before Dangan. So it's probably the other way around. (人◕ω◕) All you need to know is, Jellal is one of my least favorite characters ever, and it's not really the good kind of, "I hate this guy." Cuz there's guys like Kotaro from Assassination Classroom, villains we're supposed to loathe... And they can still be satisfyingly evil. ... Jellal tried to go the redemption route, and he just bombed. And I'm under no obligation to spend time "fixing" him to my liking, so these days I just leave Jerza fans to their corner while decrying my own personal reasons for why I despise that pairing. My time is better spent with the glory of Natza and other Natsu ships.

... With the exception of Nalu, which I avoid like the plague. Because Lucy H is right up there with characters I just can't stand. Easiest thing for me to do is to pretend she doesn't exist, and wrest control of the plot from her since, from where I stand, she frankly has very little impact to events... She's literally there for the fanservice and the Nalu Stans. I wash my hands of Lucy H. (人◕ω◕)

Alright. That's enough of my soapbox stuff. Let's just get to it. (人◕ω◕)

When did they meet?

Of all the girls in the harem, Erza can be said to be the first to have met him. (人◕ω◕) Erza arrived at Fairy Tail in X776, banished from the R-System by Jellal and threatened to never breathe a word of its continued existence - or he'd kill their friends. She lost an eye during that tragedy, and had to get a replacement from Porlyusica. Erza was... pretty guarded for her first couple years in the guild, being rather stern and no-nonsense, even at her young age.

A year later in X777... Natsu arrives, and it's not as if Erza warmed up to him right away. It took time. Erza had a harsh childhood as a slave in the R-System, and she constantly fretted over her old friends, being careful to stick to Jellal's demands. Making new friends and moving on was... rough. Yet Erza did manage, eventually growing fond of Natsu and Gray... even if she had to constantly intercede in their fights. ... And a year later in X778 had to put up with Mirajane as her own rival...

Still, there was something about Natsu that drew Erza in. (人◕ω◕) All his talk about being raised by a dragon, Erza probably didn't believe it at first... As far as she knew, dragons were extinct. But considering her own circumstances as a former slave, she could never rule out his stories for certain. The same went for Gray and his tragedies with Deliora... Erza could tell they were all affected on some level by their experiences, with Natsu probably being the best off because he just wanted to find his dad... But that was fine. For Erza, it wasn't some contest who was more deeply scarred. What likely had an impact on her was Natsu's never-give-up attitude. Even if he was rambunctious and tried picking fights with Gildarts, their guild's Ace... Erza liked his positive attitude, regardless if he was a handful or not. (人◕ω◕) That's why she took it on herself to watch over him... and teach him to read. Which we all know Natsu loved sooo much. (人◕ω◕)

Even more than that... In those first few years, Erza decided she liked Natsu so much that she wanted to be a team with him. (人◕ω◕) Sure, she could easily go for the S-Class trials at the tender age of fifteen in X780... But in this alternate universe, she decides not to. She prioritizes training Natsu up until they're both ready, and they manage it in X782. ... Even if it takes threatening Master's porn stash. (人◕ω◕)

Erza can see that the loss of Lisanna that same year impacted Natsu a great deal, not to mention Mira, Elfman, and all their friends... But Erza and Natsu both agreed the best thing they can do is become S-Class and protect the friends they have left. Which they manage to pull off. And Gray follows in their footsteps a year later. (人◕ω◕)

When did they grow closer?

This sets the stage for the present, when they run into Lucy in Hargeon~... (人◕ω◕) By this point, Natsu and Erza are pretty good friends, and despite Erza still being rather strict, Natsu has helped her to enjoy life at the least~... Go out on adventures. Protect Fairy Tail's honor... Handing posers like Bora over to the Rune Knights. (人◕ω◕) Lucy is overwhelmed in meeting the real Salamander, although.... (人◕ω◕);;;

For some reason, Erza keeps giving her the stinkeye whenever she tries to help take a gentler approach with Natsu on transportation. (人◕ω◕);;; Natsu can take a punch to the gut. Surely? It's the fastest way to alleviate him of the queasiness of motion sickness. And besides, he likes resting in Erza's lap. The knight asserts this as fact. Lucy should mind her own business. (人◕ω◕)

Still, Lucy is generally welcomed to the guild by Team Natsu... Erza's just a bit hands-on with keeping Natsu in line and taking care of his needs. Natsu requires a firm, authoritative hand. (人◕ω◕) Soon enough they go to take down Eisenwald, then resolve that mess on Galuna Island, then that spat with Phantom Lord...

And eventually, the time comes to clean out the skeletons in Erza's closet. (人◕ω◕) She's not eager to drag Natsu and Gray into her mess... But they're both too stubborn to be turned away, Natsu especially refuses to let Jellal hang over Erza's head a moment longer. It's... Well, the battle is pretty intense, and Natsu and Erza both nearly don't make it a couple of times - particularly when abandoning the crumbling tower... But Simon gets them out of there, though Jellal seemingly fell to his demise.

As a result, Erza's past is... mostly laid to rest. Her old friends are saved and join Fairy Tail. Her one regret is not saving Jellal... though for the life of him, Natsu can't figure out why Erza spares time mourning the guy that betrayed her and tried sacrificing her... Jellal might have killed her friends if given the chance, and it didn't seem possible to negotiate with the guy. Natsu for his part could never forgive Jellal for hurting Erza... But even with this lingering regret of Erza's, she is grateful for Natsu sticking up for her and helping close this chapter on her life. (人◕ω◕)

Their bond grows stronger in the Battle of Fairy Tail arc, when taking down Laxus and the Thunder Palace... But soon after that, the mission to crush Oracion Seis happens, and... Jellal was revived. ... Much to Natsu's displeasure. (人◕ω◕)*** Erza keeps trying to resolve things with Jellal, circumventing Natsu's attempts to deal with the guy before he hurts Erza again... She's too attached to this idea she has of who Jellal was, as a kid. Erza believes she can bring that scarred kid back... and Natsu doesn't believe it will be that simple.

Jellal is arrested after Nirvana is wiped out, and Oracion Seis taken down. This ends up souring the victory a bit for Natsu... Cuz Erza's still depressed, and hung up on that guy. He wants to be there for Erza, but she's not ready yet to "move on" from Jellal... It's frustrating, but Natsu bottles up his bitterness. Jellal did try helping take down Oracion Seis... Natsu just can't forgive the guy for hurting Erza, for continuing to let Erza drown in sorrow and regrets.

Edolas comes and goes... The Tenrou trials are broken up by Grimoire Heart's invasion. And... because Fairy Sphere had to be invoked to save them from Acnologia, they missed out on seven years with the guild. It's a harsh future they come back to, with the guild hanging on by a thread due to not having the manpower to keep handling the tough jobs. Other guilds have risen to prominence in the meanwhile. And the Tenrou team needs to catch up to the rest of the world, having the same strength as seven years ago.

Natsu and Erza are no strangers to training hard... They thrive on it. ... But unfortunately for Natsu, Crime Sorciere approaches them, wishing to work with them to deal with a presence similar to Zeref. It's unfortunate because Jellal seems to be running that gang, and Erza gets caught up in the misery interacting with Jellal after seven years...

Natsu's not happy about it. Especially not when, after the resolution of the Grand Magic Games and the dragon invasion, Jellal joins the guild... To keep from thinking about it, Natsu throws himself into other interactions. There's a lot of new faces in the guild these days, and he wants to pal around with the old faces, too. He and Erza are still good friends, just... If he hangs around Jellal too much, he's bound to say or do something that will put himself in hot water with Erza. He's trying to "give Jellal a chance", the issue is that Jellal remains this hollow shell of a man. Even after being pardoned, even after Erza keeps saying she forgives him... Jellal is so empty and depressed, feeling "unworthy" of this new life. No one else in Crime Sorciere or Hydra Roots is as miserable as Jellal; a few might be grumpy about joining Fairy Tail, but they've all more or less accepted it... Jellal is just a sore spot for Natsu, and he keeps bottling up his issues...

They eventually deal with Tartaros. ... Natsu loses Igneel. And to deal with his deep sadness, he was prepared to go on a training trip alone, but the Strauss Siblings had other ideas and took him with them - informing the Dragon Slayer about the guild's disbandment. Natsu feels bad about leaving all their other friends to do their own thing... But they resolve to round everyone back up after a year. Give everyone time to collect themselves after that debacle with Tartaros~...

It figures that Erza and Jellal would be working together with the Council, when Natsu reunites with her a year later. He's still bitter about Erza dwelling on the guy... But apparently they're not "together" together. While various other women keep Natsu's spirits up and his thoughts off of Erza's thing with Jellal... He can't fully extricate himself from that situation. Much less when Erza still comes around, turning girls away from Natsu and insisting they have training and catching up to do... Erza and Mira especially get into it.

But Natsu... He just keeps brute-forcing through the pain and acting like nothing's wrong. Sure, it stings a bit that Erza's turning the other girls away at times... But he can see that it's not so cut and dry. Jellal's important to her, but so's Natsu. And... Natsu can't deny Erza's important to him, too. (人◕ω◕) He just wishes he could figure out why he's lingering on Jellal so much~... Why it "matters" who Erza cares for most. He just can't figure that out. ... Though Mira, Ultear, Meredy, and some others have long since puzzled that out, even when they're at war with Alvarez. (人◕ω◕)

When did friendship turn to something more?

Natsu and Erza's relationship is certainly... Well. (人◕ω◕) It's one of those "spontaneous" situations that I've brought up in prior posts. But here's why it took until after Alvarez to sort out their feelings for each other: ... Jellal. Simply... Jellal. (人◕ω◕)***

Erza has long wrestled with romance. She's latched onto every book she can get her hands on to learn about it, but it's a concept that's so immersive and hard to comprehend. For the longest time, she thought that the reason she was stuck on Blueberry was because she loved him... And perhaps as a child, she did have a crush. (人◕ω◕) However, as adults, seeing Jellal so down all the time after the various conflicts they've been through together... Erza came to see Jellal as her responsibility to "fix", to cheer him up...

But after so many failures, Erza came to realize something. She's not... happy doing all the work in this "relationship" with her childhood crush. Even after so much effort, the guy's barely plodding along... Hardly ever takes jobs unless there's a significant threat (not to mention, more than a few times he tries sacrificing himself to resolve conflicts), and in-between work he's just... so lost. Unsure of what he should be doing, constantly doubting if he's worthy of having friends... Everyone else in the guild has essentially welcomed him, though most give Jellal his space to sort things out himself. Aside from Erza, Meredy and Simon are the ones giving more of an effort to help Jellal move on with his life... Master Makarov tried bestowing his wisdom, but Erza can't be sure if it soaked in for Jellal...

Eventually, after much trial and error... They work out Jellal does better on the Council. He's accepted as a secretary, and the work keeps him... occupied. Jellal is more responsive now whenever Erza finds the time to speak with him, but he hasn't made much progress in the way of his personal life. He's a busybody, and he's never given much thought to a relationship with anyone.

On the one hand, this relieves Erza somewhat, as she's been coming to the realization she doesn't love Jellal... Not like that. He was a "project" for her, wanting to help her old friend... But he's drastically different from the idealized picture she had in her head of who "Jellal" is. A part of her is let down that friends is all they'll ever be... But conversely, she can now turn her attention to Natsu, who she's been a bit concerned about. Despite his smiles and easygoing attitude, he was always tense whenever Jellal came up as a topic, giving Erza a somewhat wide berth...

... And Erza doesn't like that. Natsu's special to her, and she wants the Dragon Slayer to confide in her, like how she trusts him with everything she wrestles through. Shortly after Jellal's transferred to the Council, Natsu does open up to her... And it all leaves Erza pretty flabbergasted and feeling whiplash from so many emotions all at once in her head...

Natsu still hadn't forgiven Jellal for hurting her as a child. He went all this time trying to honor her feelings, tried getting along with Jellal for his sake... But he just couldn't let it go. Natsu could see how depressed Erza was whenever Jellal was around, how attached she seemed to be to the guy... And despite unloading all of this on Erza because she asked, the Dragon Slayer was expecting to be hit or punished or whatever Erza needed to do...

After all, the same kind of ire rose up whenever she saw other girls hanging off of him... Erza didn't want Natsu hurting anymore, and she didn't want to just be his friend. They'd been past that stage for a long time now... Erza was just too caught up in distractions and not processing her tenderhearted feelings for the Dragon Slayer that she was so proud of and loved so much~... (人◕ω◕)(人◕ω◕)(人◕ω◕)

When Erza muses all this, it clicks for Natsu as well. He does love her. That's why he was bothered all this time... And it's nice to hug it out with Erza without her armor getting in the way. \(人◕ω◕)/ ... Sure, they'll have to talk about all the other... interested parties. Hash things out with all those other girls.

But Natsu doesn't wanna give up on a single one of them, much to Erza's chagrin. (人◕ω◕) They will make this work. ... Even if sometimes Erza-chan wants to rip off Mira-chan's head, or vice versa~... They don't always get along. But they can be all one big, happy family~.... Really. (人◕ω◕)

Fourteen's a nice round number... right? (人◕ω◕) Surely there wouldn't be any more surprises.

just because you are the beloved meta knight moot and i'm really sleepy i'm going to rant about metadad for a little while because it's hard to find people who think metadad can kind of be a double edged sword (haha sword pun). or just care about this in general.

imo metadad is really good and i like it. i think it's a fun concept to toy with and there's some evidence to back it up (ie: face reveal, that really cute itsudemo kirby book, sakurai and ohmoto's comments about his relationship with kirby).

here's the thing that really gets to me though. metadad falls into "soft father figure in a nuclear family unit" so so so so so much. which is so weird, because the dream team isn't a soft nuclear family at all! these people all have very similar skill + competence levels, and they're constantly physically fighting each other. this is like, a constant rivalry thing. these are people that deeply care about each other but aren't constantly babying each other.

like, metadad. i said there was evidence, and there is. and it's a cute concept! i like the idea of mk seeing kirby as a son! i like the idea that they can be soft and tender and loving with each other! but meta knight is like, notoriously irresponsible, and kirby can handle himself on his own. he doesn't need to be a responsible dad type, nor does he need to handle all of kirby's problems. this carries over to animeverse, even. it just feels like we're skipping the whole "rivarly" and "violence" and "similar power level" to have the cutesy dad stuff exclusively. maybe. maybe i can see it in animeverse. but it's circumstantial. it's really circumstantial. yeah. i should be writing.

yes yes yes. these four go through a ton together and boiling their dynamic down to something so strictly familiar feels…demeaning.

i’ve mentioned before that i sprinkle a bit of metadad into my work. it’s fun, like you say, and it makes sense with how they support each other and are always trying to help the other improve. the dream team works together in a way that is easy to read as a family. but, mostly i do it in a mentor-student way more so than father-son. i’ve grown fond of the ‘mk raised sailor dee’ headcanon lately, and even then he isn’t really a father type. he’s still more a mentor and a friend than anything else.

mk gets softened a lot. like, more than he would realistically be. i love getting to see him lower his guard and be vulnerable for once, hell one look at any of my knights-related work is enough to know that, but he has a limit. he’s still a powerful warrior with years of experiences weighing on him. we don’t know much about his history in the game-verse, but there’s probably something hidden away in the memory vault. he’s mature in a way many kirby characters aren’t.

and that’s not to say someone like kirby himself isn’t mature. he is, in his own way. he’s younger, is all, but he’s not a baby. he’s been through his own struggles and has learned from them. he’s grown and changed since dreamland 1 and adventure, and that’s a conversation for a different night with how much i have to say about it. even in the anime i feel like the descriptor of “he cannot speak, he can hardly think” is much too harsh (and i should point out, meta knight is the one who says this! he’s war-hardened and difficult to impress, and over the course of the show he grows to understand that just because kirby is young doesn’t mean he can’t conquer challenges the knight may see as impossible).

sometimes their actions can be read as friends, sometimes as rivals, sometimes as father-son. they are multi-layered, complex characters with an incredibly strong bond. there is so much more to these two, and dedede and bandee as well, than “soft happy family living domestically in dreamland.” domestic isn’t even in their vocabulary. they just are, and they’re just doing whatever they want, because that’s what you do when you have people you trust to such a degree. they’re whatever they are in the moment and it’s great. such a developed dynamic should be explored, not ignored. these four have limitless potential in the ways that they interact.

compare adventure and super star to robobot and triple deluxe, to forgotten land, to return to dreamland and star allies. you can tell just how much love has been poured into these characters, and how much love they have for each other. they go to hell and back and they always do it as a team.

Given the interpretations of JTTW/Xiyouji - what is your opinion on when media or even solo creators make a romance for Wukong?

Especially since most of Wukong's romances in media end up played for tragedy as well as the fact that from a textbook analysis he seems very no love/no sex/only friendship.

Innocent interpretations for their personal enjoyment or does it feel more harmful to the character of Wukong as a whole and fetishy?

Given Xiyouji and Wukong in general has such an influential swathe over culture/pop culture as a whole and the uh...quite gross mishandling of him at times from Western culture (Ex. Making him some musclebound meathead who only cares for violence which doesn't only devalue his character but the East-Asian view of masculinity as a whole.) or Anime culture. (Ex; making him a 'Yandere' style obsessive partner which may be interesting when played off his previous lifestyle as a Yaoguai - but most of the time isn't and is simply played to be a 'love me or else' danger boyfriend.)

What do you think of it all? Especially with the prevalence of a lot of this stuff propping up due to LMK?

Hmmmm OKAY so I do need to preface this by noting that I've now run across a number of retellings/presentations of Sun Wukong composed by eastern creators that made me deeply uncomfortable or even straight-up be like "well I hope I forget that exists forever!" because of the ways in which the monkey king was oversexualized and/or painted into extreme grimdark territory. So it's pretty obvious that western creators aren't unique in some of the ways that Sun Wukong gets flanderized to hell and back.

And while being very much aware that what one sees in the west for free on youtube is a very small sample size of big-budget retellings of Xiyouji, a LOT of those retellings with a Monkey King romance have an incredibly samey plot of "Sun Wukong is a dick-->he encounters some lady and is a dick to her-->she likes him anyway-->he softens up a bit-->she dies-->he's sad-->her death still gives him the powerup needed to defeat the big bad." I know that the angle is tragedy but oh my god at this point the 500 year old text that presents Sun Wukong as a communal grandpa that will do literally anything for his family including challenging the heavens & how this comes back to bite them all in the collective ass BUT they still love each other very much and Sun Wukong never stops fighting for them and doing everything he can to make them happy and safe speaks far more to tragedy that's balanced out with hope & is far more original than many a contemporary retelling in my opinion! tbh i wouldn't be surprised if this was one of the reasons why Monkey King: Hero Is Back became so popular that it basically revived Chinese animation; it's one of those rare retellings that puts the emphasis on dad/protector of children Wukong rather than lover Wukong, and as a result 2015 SWK still seems to have a special place in the hearts of many.

But turning back to western creators in both individual and big-budget productions, I guess my main gripe would have to be not so much that your meathead/yandere/destructive monkey presentations of SWK exist (you'll find such depictions across the globe), but that these often seem to be undeniably the most popular, the most common, and at times the ONLY ways that the Monkey King is understood in the west. As it is eastern countries like China do seem to have their share of such depictions, but there's also a abundance of other understandings/portrayals of the Monkey King, including those of him being a dedicated and quick-witted being, a tireless protector of children, and oh yeah a literal buddha! I've joked before about how hellbent many western creators seem to be in taking the "intelligent" out of "intelligent stone primate," but looking over the ways that SWK is commonly presented in the west...well, can you really say that this isn't the case? Honestly at times SWK really feels like he's become yet another victim of narrative monoculturalization in the west, where one version becomes the Official one and barely anyone deviates from it. Personally I feel it particularly sucks that this Official version seems to have become one where the Monkey King is routinely presented as a destructive idiot whose only worth lies in this weird frenemies relationship to the Six Eared Macaque :( (though I will say it's kind of fascinating how western creators so completely rewrote the True and False Monkey King arc that it's the Six Eared Macaque and not Sun Wukong who's become the definitely preferred individual. Dude finally achieved his goal of replacing the Monkey King lol).

In a number of ways this disparity does make sense. Besides Xiyouji definitely not having the same cultural impact in the west as it does in the east, there's very few decent English translations out there, and even fewer that give due course to the entire story. As far as I'm aware the Anthony C. Yu translation is the only one to do so, and yeah it's understandable that many people wouldn't or couldn't make their way through 1,400+ pages worth of narrative and footnotes. Plus there's the added fact that the east has more traditions of monkeys being understood as tricksters, whereas in the west primates have long been framed as man's poor imitation with ties to the Devil himself, so you can get some sense of why/how SWK's destructive tendencies would be emphasized above all else. Plus it certainly doesn't help that the two(2) primary ways that western audiences are learning about the Monkey King & co. are through cartoony retellings, which are fine in of themselves but when that's the ONLY popular version you have well you are not going to end with a complex or even a positive impression of the Monkey King. And it definitely definitely doesn't help that one of those versions--even while it is a silly lego show--consistently presents Sun Wukong as an absolute failure that basically everyone either has good reason to be mad at or just flat-out hates. And yeah you see this getting emphasized even further in fandom creations a lot, with many a popular fan work being all about how Sun Wukong ruined everything and/or getting yelled at & punched for being a cataclysmic moron. Like hell there's a very good chance I'm not looking hard enough but I don't remember coming across a single piece of recent fan work for Monkie Kid that shows Sun Wukong actually being a good mentor or actively doing something positive. The emphasis is pretty much only ever on his relationship with Macaque, and for that how thoroughly he screwed it up.

So going back to your original question anon, I would say that in it's abstract the idea of giving Sun Wukong a romance isn't inherently a bad thing. It's just that (and maybe it's just me) for a variety of reasons, in both eastern and western creations, in both individual fandom and big-budget works, I've pretty much never seen it done well lmao.

Alright, I'm going to rant a bit about comic book cannon Casey Marie first since that's who Adopted au CM is based off of (that and she's great lol)

Casey Marie is April and Casey's daughter from a tmnt comic series called "The Last Ronin" (if she's in anything else, i do not know. This is where i know her from.)

(it's a fantastic, five volume series with gorgeous art and a great, yet tragic, story. Basic summary without spoilers is that 20+ years into the future, the foot clan has taken over and walled off NYC controling everyone inside. One of the turtle's mission is to break in to NYC and take down the head of the Foot clan, Shredder's grandson, even if it kills him. I don't want to say more than that but if you like to read comics please read it!)

anyways! This is Casey Marie Jones as she's first properly introduced.

In "The Last Ronin". Her age is a little unclear but if i had to guess she's somewhere in her late teens. She was born after her father died thus ended up named after him. She runs a small resistance against the Foot and grew up idolizing a group of ninja turtles she never had a chance to meet. She even tried teaching herself ninjutsu but ends up gaining the remaining turtle (name redacted for spoiler reasons) as a sensei upon him seeing said attempt and not being able to ignore the mistakes that could get her hurt.

(i wish i had some comic panels from this part but, alas, they are in the 1 ISSUE i do not own of his series. so instead have a picture of her being cool on the cover of the 5th issue, post haircut of course.)

Personality wise, she's pretty cool. she cares very deeply for her family and rebel group (Which may as well be her family as well.) Shes stubborn, doing what she thinks is right regarless of what she's been told, but also can have a bit of a temper.

She's also a bit of a jokester, often seen teasing Redacted (that's just what i'm calling him now) (which he has no idea how to handle. Teenagers confuse him lol)

She and Redacted end up being pretty close, and he's very protective of her. She's their friends' only daughter, of course he would be. By the end they're practically family.

Now that i'm done ranting about Cannon Casey Marie (b/c she's great) i'll move on to what Adopted AU Casey Marie (and Jackie) are like!

Casey would definitely be fascinated by ninjutsu growing up, to the point of getting Angie to teach her the stuff he got taught and eventually getting to learn straight from Leo (which i stated before but eh. I can say it again.)

She'd be stubborn, confident, and ready to fight over anything she deems worthy of it (nothing gets her to start a fight faster than someone picking on her little sister.) She's tech smart like her mom but would rather fight than do tech stuff on the sidelines.

Jackie (i'm making this one up as i go so it might end up changing some) is a little more reserved than Casey, but not by much. Looking at the two together, you'd think she was the calm/shy one, but she's not. especially whenever she's playing a competitive sport. She inherited her dad's love of Hockey and turns into an absolute feral gremlin as soon as her skates hit the ice. (she plays other sports too, but Hockey is her main.) (she also looks the most like April. so she's just this little Red head running around with a hockey stick, which i find absolutely adorable.)She likes ninjutsu as well, but as more of a hobby while Casey thinks of it as a career goal.

I think both girls would like art as well, but mostly just see it as something to do with Angie.

TW for CSA stuff-- Sorry if you've talked about this before, but I've gone through a bit of your Roy family sickness tag and it's kind of making me think about the show in a different way. I have seen people theorise about Roman as a victim but not much else. Do you read it as there were other dynamics or abuse at play? I just haven't seen a ton about it as I only orbit succession tumblr so I'd be interested to hear you elaborate if you are comfortable/interested! If this is too heavy please ignore, of course.

Yeah no problem! Just getting my thoughts in order

So I guess the core of it is, I see Logan as being very fucked up in his views about sex and power and bodies and masculinity and "might makes right" and so on. And it's all deeply rooted in a combination of the violence he experienced as a child, seeing his own children as his property or extensions of himself, and the culture and actions he's had to become jaded and tolerant to in his line of business. That is to say, family is business and business is fucking.

I think he definitely doesn't see himself as a deviant or pervert and would be furious at any kind of pathologizing him that way, but it's that very cognitive dissonance that allows him to rationalize the unspeakable acts he's done and see them as not Real or mattering. With Kendall specifically, my interpretation is that any sexual grooming that happened with him was closely entwined with his being groomed to take over Waystar, which functions as both a cover and a reward, but is also part of why he has so thoroughly dehumanized his son. And I don't think Logan consciously intended it in the beginning, but it was like a slow eroding of boundaries fueled by his need to assert the family hierarchy and possibly insecurity about Caroline becoming cold and hostile to him (because of his abuse of her as well), and also in his mind a way of controlling and containing the deviance he saw in Kendall so that he could still be grown into a tough ruthless alpha.

Then there's Roman and Shiv (and a quick detour back to Connor, who I think very likely could have been vulnerable to the Wolf Pack as a kid as well but isn't necessarily aware of what his dad has become or doesn't want to consider it). While I see Kendall as the one who was most overtly or consistently sexually abused by his father, I think the levels of incest Roman and Shiv experienced reside in various shades of gray that makes it difficult for them to openly acknowledge it as such as adults. On Roman's end, we've canonically seen Logan's sexualized bullying and harassment of him that probably started when he was young and having developmental issues, which he has clearly internalized and defines himself by that "wrongness", and going by how Roman gets used as a honeypot with men in business I think it's very plausible that Logan could have indirectly exploited him in that way or been complicit in it. Then there's the environment he experienced at military school and perhaps even cycles of abuse that could've happen with Kendall when they were kids and he was grappling for his own sense of control and owning someone and seeing his little brother as an acceptable target, but basically there's a lot of different ways it might've gone down and I imagine it was some combination of them.

With Shiv, Logan is similarly possessive of her to how he is with Kendall, but it takes a very different form due to their assigned genders. As his only daughter and the one who takes after him the most, she has become emotionally enmeshed in this role that's like a wife or a best friend or pet, because he has such a narrow view of what even the women he appreciates most are good for. I don't think he wants to see Shiv in a sexual light and has given her precarious shelter, but of course the poison drips through and I imagine there's been probably many moments like the one in Lifeboats where he wasn't so lucid and ended up assaulting her in some way, especially during that period of the divorce where she was 10-13 and seems to have a fuzzy recollection of. And it's because they do truly love each other and because he's the center of her universe that they've both carefully hid from this horrible part of their relationship, in very much a Laura Palmer kind of way.

But yeah, that's just how I've personally put together a lot of the pieces of what the text has implied intentionally or otherwise and what makes the most sense to me based on things I've read and people I've talked to. I'm absolutely not an expert at all, I just find the subject captivating as an exercise in empathy and better understanding the reasons why these kind of horrific things happen and the institutions that encourage and enable it as opposed to shoving it off into the box of "Evil Person Disorder that must be purged by the righteous to make the world *safe*".

Heya baba :D!! Yes, these are still open and thanks for the ask~ <3

Nicky:

Nicky is another character I find very easy to relate and project onto. There's his relationship with his dad of course that reminds me of my mom and I. And being home alone due to work schedules in general. But there's also that strong desire to impress his family! Getting lost in trying to enjoy their interests while not leaving much room to openly explore his own. He, in any timeline, struggles with identity along with emotional vulnerability which feels very realistic. While I think Nicolas may have felt a bit more comfortable opening up, there were still moments where he was unsure like how he knew Glenn was a stranger but somehow familiar or how confused and troubled he was at the thought of his dad maybe being a hell demon in disguise. Sometimes I think Nicky is still feeling lost, never certain about his place in the world. Lots of bottled up frustration at everything that's happened and desperately wanting to make his own path but not wanting to lose anyone by doing so. And yet, he loses people anyway: his mom in one timeline, his dad Glenn faded from his memories temporarily, losing his closest friends, and finally-- Having to leave his own kid alone to keep both Cass and Taylor safe from the chaos that's always nipping at his heels. It all makes me so sad :( Seems like he would have loved to be there for Taylor before! Hope they get to bond more...wishing them happiness! I do wonder why he never like called or wrote a letter or something--probably to be extra safe (along with the memory stuff)? But consider...he has this box in his bedroom full of unsent letters that he writes every year. And they are basically like journal entries--stream of consciousness stuff about his thoughts about Cass and Taylor etc. From talking about an item that for some reason reminded Nicky of them. Or reminiscing some anniversary or date or silly inside joke. And even the first time he taught Taylor how to jump in rain puddles and Cass showed their little guy how to shake rain off like a dog might. They were all drenched and giggling that day, running back home hand-in-hand and Taylor between them. Whenever his emotions start overwhelming him, he rubs at his eyes and calms the swaying flames in his hair and on candles nearby. He carefully places the letters back in that box. Tells himself he'll work up the courage to set up a safe, stealthy plan to send one next year. (He may have some letters written for other people too. Though certain ones are a bit burned). So yeah, Nicky cares very deeply for his loved ones and is intensely protective! I think that's really sweet and cool...and love the soft and silly sides he has too! For the canon and bullied squares, I'm thinking mainly of his friendship with the other boys. I really wish we got more info on how they all interacted together. Though I think all the headcanons about the group dynamic are fun to read and brainstorm too!! Oh yeah!! I know there's the weird only visit hell once thing unless you're demon(?) but for my ideas...I imagine it wasn't always like that so it was easy for his friends to visit and hang out with him there before. But after the betrayal and the fbi getting more persistent, the stipulation came to be for safety reasons. Seems like his relationship with Jodie is rocky at best right now yet Jodie remains protective of him anyway (as shown with him destroying part of the fbi group in anger) so seems reasonable to do.

hey friend!!! guess what everyone, I met grace IRL this weekend and it's so crazy to think that we're all real physical humans out there! hi grace

22. Describe your writing process from scratch to finish.

it is so haphazard lol. I guess like..

I get an idea for a fic. this is usually a very small kernel of a thing or a line of dialogue. acid came out of that jeffrey dahmer conversation they have. living in God's blind spot was "what if sam jerked off for dean in front of their dad wouldn't that be fucked up or what"

I write in Google docs, mostly on my phone, but recently I got a lil keyboard for my ipad and I've also been using that

I make a bullet point outline of scenes. ideally I'll have the whole outline done this way before I start writing but usually there are gaps. I delete my outlines when I'm gone a fic so I don't have any to share, but depending on how fleshed out a scene is, the notes are anywhere from specific dialogue and actions to "they go to the vics house, find out x"

I start usually at the beginning, but I also have other stuff written. eg with the time travel fic, the doc is ~58k words and 1,825 words are chunks of scenes that haven't happened yet, and 1,123 are notes/outlines. the notes/outlines are always just thrown into the doc too, in hot pink font. I just push them down the page as I write. it's not good

I write! usually on my phone when I'm supposed to be working.

I edit my own stuff when it's done. that's also not very good but I'm used to it. I'll switch fonts or switch it into light mode or post a draft on AO3 to read it in a new context that helps me catch typos

that's all I can think to say. not particularly remarkable

I got into some specific style related writing advice on this ask a long time ago so I won't repeat myself on that stuff

the other thing I'll say is, I guess.. do you ever read a writer who doesn't seem like they're having fun? or takes themselves too seriously? like, there's a lack of joy to the work? I have. I think it's noticeable and I think it shows. everyone should be able to find a way to make writing fun.

71. How do you balance writing and life? do you ever feel overwhelmed by the amount of writing you have to do?

I hadn't read this question when I answered the previous one, but my answer is the same, haha. I don't think of it as 'amount of writing I have to do' because I'm just doing this for me. I guess it's different when you're in challenges or exchanges or bangs, which while very cool are also very stressful.

so! I think I balance it by.. I do write a lot, but I also have a pretty chill life. one partner and no kids, working from home. I only have a few other hobbies besides writing, so writing is My Main Thing. i'm deeply privileged with the amount of time I have to write about two fictional brothers touching dicks these days, and I'm grateful for that. when I was younger and didn't have as much time: it felt very delicious to steal moments of writing when I was supposed to be doing other things. in classes and on the bus. that helped it feel like balance.

3. Companions: your OC’s platonic best friend?

LANN. Agria thinks Lann rules and likes him immediately. He also agrees with her choices maybe twice in the whole game, so it's the duality of man(n), I suppose. Agria recognizes qualities in him that she really wishes she had herself: honesty, stability, straightforwardness. Lann takes slightly longer to warm up (he rightly thinks she's annoying), but he similarly appreciates things Agria has that he lacks in comparison: she's outgoing and sensitive in a way that he struggles to be.

It strikes a nice balance, and she basically considers him family by Act 3.

4. Companions: your OC’s rock / person they go to for reassurance?

Agria trusts and admires Seelah tremendously. Early on, she's kind of in awe and crushes on her for a hot second in Act 1. Faith is one of Agria's very few insecurities, and she's deeply impressed by Seelah's confidence in hers, even when what she wants to do might be at odds with conventional doctrine. In the moments where she is truly unsure of what to do, she goes to Seelah.

Later, as they start to get closer, she also goes to Woljif! He is the one she really trusts to understand her, whatever the circumstances may be. She spends so much time trying to get a read on him and anticipate his choices in Acts 1 and 2 that it actually really takes her by surprise that he was watching her back just as closely.

She is briefly mystified by the realization that all her little tricks for deflecting and getting people to only ask her the questions she wants to answer suddenly aren't working anymore. That kind of awareness of her would be terrifying, but there's a real sense of safety there. It's just us; what's there to be afraid of?

15. Your OC’s backstory?

This got so, so long, and I can only apologize.

Agria is a card-carrying member of House Lebeda, one seven great houses of Brevoy, but she's not an important one. Her father Victor was a deeply disposable fourth son, which meant that he would inherit precisely nothing but was afforded a certain level of freedom his brothers never got.

The first thing he does with this freedom is make himself a very unconventional love match with one Lady Alase Istul. The Istuls are former Sarkorians who only gained lands recently: wild choice for the son of a great house, but everyone decides that at least the novelty keeps them entertained.

For a while, everything is great! The junior Lebedas certainly don't have the kind of status their cousins have, and Alase and the in-laws don't get along, but that's to be expected. And, hey! Agria is born an aasimar! That's probably a good sign, right?

Even if Victor is busy all the time, Alase and Agria get along just fine. Mom cultivates in her daughter a deep love of Sarkorian culture and history.

As she grows, she picks up the typical knack for fire magic common to ember-kin aasimars. Trouble is, little Agria is igniting the drapes, so she's going to need some help here. Dad had some instruction as a kid, so he pulls himself away from work for once to teach her the basics.

And, wow, uh? She's really good? Huh, interesting. Victor has spent enough time desperately trying to break into the world of politics to know an opportunity when he sees one. When the ruling Surtovas start making noise about turning Brevoy into a legit hub for magic in the north, he can't raise his hand fast enough to volunteer his daughter.

He moves his family to the capital, and for the first time, the junior Lebedas matter. Agria thinks, "Well, maybe I'm working really hard, and I don't have time for stuff other kids do, but it's for magic!" And she loves magic!

That is, until her mom dies when Agria is fifteen. Agria was so busy she barely knew she was sick. Then, she thinks, "Uh. Um. Guys. Maybe I should slow down?" Dad reacts like she just stabbed him.

It takes a few years, but eventually she does blow up her life spectacularly. Agria limps out of New Stetven with a ruined purpose in life to match her new broken leg. No one who she loved will speak to her after that.

The only one who will speak to is her mother's sister-in-law, Dalla. She has a young daughter, Gwyneth, who only just started doing magic herself and needs a teacher, and this is the pretext Dalla uses to justify inviting her to stay with Clan Widowknife for a while. Agria, nursing a leg that will not heal, is determined to hate life, but but Gwyn wears her down. Damn that sweet kid and her bug collection.

Over time, she starts actually listening to Aunt Dalla, who becomes her guiding star. Aunt Dalla is the coolest person ever, so why not do everything she does? She starts worshipping Desna because she so admires the way that her aunt sees the world.

But she's still Agria, and love is an action, so she needs to do something meaningful for the Istuls and Clan Widowknife. After a few years, Gwyn wants to learn the kind of summoning magic the Godcallers of Clan Widowknife did before the Worldwound. But they can't find a single person who still knows it! This sparks her grand quest to seek out the scattered Sarkorians to collect their lore for future generations, which leads her to Mendev!

17. Your OC’s high point?

Right after the Mephistopheles fight on the Azata path in Act 5!

Agria is not a good Desnan and is so desperate for clear instruction that she doesn’t really suspect “Early Sunset” until Arue points it in the Abyss. Then, it seems completely obvious. No Azata would ever have made it this easy for her!

So, going into this fight, Agria keeps the mythic powers, choosing to take their manifestation in this particular way as a sign that she’s on the right path. But she doesn’t feel great about it yet. It’s the kind of going out on a limb that free-spirited Desnans live for and that she is terrified of.

Going back to the island for the first time since Act 3 is a little bit like facing that unsure version of herself that still needed Early Sunset to feel confident in her choices. She figures killing Mephistopheles properly is more work than it’s worth, but making sure that he knows she’s better than him feels pretty great.

The big moment for her really comes when Maitresse Olla Devara tells her that Elysium backs her up on the decision to keep the mythic powers. She says, “it doesn’t matter who or what was the original source of your powers. What matters is where your heart calls you.”

It’s the first time Agria really feels sure in her faith, and it’s an incredible feeling.

She also gets the “run away with me” event in the Woljif Romance Mod right afterwards, which is both the nicest thing anyone has ever done for her and the moment she knows she’s in love with him. I will happily elaborate on that if anyone would like lol!

Let's start this serious chapter with a cute Izuku gif!

Before you read, I recommend that you read my Izuku X Reader - Ignored Inheritance and my Toru Hagakure X Reader first.

Okay let's get to the story now.

Warning: Mineta makes an inappropriate comment.

Summary: You tell Izuku that you know about One for All.

You made it home and your parents were both in their room undressing out of their hero outfits. You noticed because the light was on in their room.

Just great. You thought.

The least thing you wanted was to talk to your parents after having to wait to go to the park and meet Izuku.

You sat on the living room couch to watch some TV. You turned on your favorite show, which was "Present Mic's fabulous talks." Even though your Dad kind of disliked the guy. You thought he was kind of cool or entertaining to say the very least. He did DJ tracks, interviews, and many more. When you will become a hero, you will do some of the stuff Present Mic does as well. Well...at least doing the interview part. Maybe then you could at least try to discourage discrimination among quirks.

You heard a door open, which you immediately could tell it came from your parents' room. Your father and mother walked in and immediately sat down on the couch next to each other with smiles on their faces.

"Hey little guppy, we saw your note, but try to text us next time when you're going out. How was your time out with your friend?" Your father asked.

You grumbled, "I told you not to call me 'little guppy.' I'm sixteen now."

Your father had a deep chuckle escape his throat, "I know son, I'm sorry I just enjoy calling you that sometimes."

You rolled your eyes as you sighed, "Anyway, me and my friend had a good time. We ate some ice cream with each other and talked not much else." You replied clicking onto another channel.

"That's good, hey we wanted to talk to you about something. It's about our family." Your mother spoke to you in a somewhat concerned voice.

You shut down the TV as you put the remote away and laid back.

"We have starting to notice that this family has been drifting apart a little lately and we know it's because we are all so very busy. Though, when we are home you tend to avoid us Y/N, why is that? We're your parents you know you can talk to us if anything is wrong." Your mother explained.

You grumbled once again as you put your claws over your face. They would never understand, you can't tell your Dad that you went into his office and now know about the provisional license exam. They also wouldn't stop being overprotective despite you telling them you can handle yourself. They say they "understand" when they freaking don't!

You stood up from your seat as you looked at them with a serious look on your face.

"Even if I told you, you wouldn't care. The problem is that you guys keep texting me every goddamn time that I can't even have time to myself that's why a wrote a note instead of texting! Your all so overprotective that your not even letting me have a chance to prove myself that I can take care of myself!"

Your father stood up and put a hand on your shoulder in an attempt to stop you from going out the door. "Hey, your mother and I aren't done talking yet and you don't talk to my wife like that! You can't just leave!"

Your sharp teeth showed as you retaliated with shoving him, "Leave me alone!" You shouted as you opened up the front door of the house and left.

"Y/N!" Your Dad shouted.

Kugo felt a hand on his shoulder, and when he turned around he saw that it was his wife.

"Let him go Kugo, he just needs time to himself for now."

Kugo sighed very deeply as he relaxed.

"Okay, but we will talk about this with him later."

You were in a spa with a bunch of the other guys in class 1-A. You sat with Izuku enjoying the nice warm water going against your rubbery skin. You wore a white towel over the bottom part of your body to cover up your private parts.

"Hmm I wonder what a fish's we we looks like." You heard someone mumble.

You saw that Mineta went under the water! No freaking way! That damn pervert! No way he was going to see your nuts!

Everyone in the spa heard Mineta and immediately jumped out of the pool along with you. Mineta's head appeared out of the water as he cried like the baby he was.

"Aww come on Y/N! I just wanted to see what your balls looked like." Mineta yelled crying like a baby.

This fithy pervert! You had it you were going to kill him! You bent down and picked up Mineta and threw him in the air. Like really really high, almost to even to outer space.

"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" You heard the pervert shout.

You sighed contently, "Finally, got my revenge. I always hated that guy."

Everyone just stared at you shocked. Not even a word come out of anyone's mouth after what had just happened.

You saw Mr. Aizawa come out from the summer camp building with his hands in his pockets.

"What happened? I heard screaming from here?" Aizawa questioned.

You looked at Mr. Aizawa with an apologetic look, as you itched your dorsal fin.

"Uh Mineta just tried to assault me, sort of. Sorry Mr. Aizawa." You replied. You felt bad for having to have Mr. Aizawa out here now instead of relaxing inside the building.

Mr. Aizawa just waved his hand off at you like he didn't care, "It's okay I believe you I never liked that guy either. I'll save him later, just enjoy yourselves in the spa for now."

"You know Y/N, that was kind of crazy." Izuku said looking up at you.

"I kinda don't regret it." You said.

You then suddenly heard the girls from the other side of the fence praise you, "THANK YOU Y/N! WE HATED MINETA!"

"Or maybe it was a good thing?" Izuku said as he laughed lightly and itched at the back of his head embarrassed.

You chuckled at remembering the memory. You and Izuku were close friends, you could trust him. He can trust you with his secret about his quirk, but you thought about telling him about the provisional license exam. You can't keep secrets from your best friend right?

It's 8 PM and you saw Izuku walking towards you wearing his normal outfit that he wears in the dorms and his light blue hoodie. When it came about Mr. Aizawa going around and asking about doing dorms for class 1-A to ensure more safety for the students. Your Mom and Dad politely declined, which made you all the more frustrated. It was mainly because they were "at home to protect you."

"Hey Y/N, why are we meeting here at 8 PM? It is getting kind of late." Izuku said with a concerned look on his face.

You sighed as you patted down at the bench, "Take a seat Izuku, I have something important to talk about with you."

Izuku sat down on the bench and looked at you awaiting for your answer. You took a deep breath as you looked up at him with a serious expression.

"I know about your quirk Izuku, it came from the big head honcho didn't it?"

Izuku's pupils dilated as his entire face overcame with shock. He knew you were talking about All Might.

"Whaaa!? How did you know?! Who told you!?" Izuku shouted.

"Shhhhh! It's freaking 8 PM man, I wanted to talk to you about this in a quiet spot where no one could hear us." You replied.

"Okay okay sorry, just how did you know?"

You sighed as you itched a finger on the side of your face, "Well I kind of figured out myself. There were a couple signs that showed it. You gotta work on hiding your quirk better."

You smiled as you put Izuku's hands into your big ones, "Izuku, don't worry about it. Not to be rude, but I think some of the people in our class are a little oblivious about your quirk. Don't worry, your secret is safe with me."

Izuku looked up at you with a big smile on his face, "Y/N...t-thank you. Although, maybe I do need to work on hiding my quirk better?"

A deep chuckle escaped your mouth, "Hell yeah man."

"Izuku how did you get his quirk?" You asked.

Izuku told you everything from one for all, All for One, and how he was even quirkless at first.

You gave him a hug as you rubbed his back softly, "I promise you Izuku, anyone can become a hero with or without a quirk. All that matters is the heart. All Might clearly saw your spirit, and if he didn't give you his quirk. Then, I wouldn't have met you. You changed my life so much Izuku. Thank you! You would make a great hero someday." You told your best friend.

Izuku was speechless a little at first, but then a big smile appeared on his face. "Thanks Y/N, you would make a good hero too!"

"I guess we both would wouldn't we?" You propesed your idea.

Izuku looked over at the statue that was in the center of the park. "Yeah, we would."

You could tell him about the provisional license exam, but you pushed that aside. You knew you shouldn't even have known about your Dad being in the exam, but if somehow you got in trouble. You didn't want Izuku getting in trouble too. Your Dad was in your way from becoming a pro hero and you wouldn't let him stop you! You and Deku were going to do your very hardest and make it to the top!

For a heavy, emotional secret. Raven: *Sighs heavily* Some men blood related to me, and not far down the blood line, abused me for many years. I had a sort of *hesitates* amnesia, it uh... I didn't remember till one of the perpetrators told me a while back. I wish I was still oblivious. I'm honestly not coping quite as well as I make it seem.

For a secret wish or desire of theirs Malou: *Chuckles awkwardly* well... *chuckles again* last year someone returned to my life. Someone I've been in love with since we were.... kids. Uhm yeah, he's a bit of a mess, and not good at answering on Facebook, but... he's both my secret wish, and desire.

For something bad/mischievous you did as a child or teen that your parents don’t know about Evan: *Chuckles deeply* once Andy, Daniel and I stole my dads brand new very expensive bottle of Vodka, drank it all, got really wasted, wanted to go to a party, but we didn't have money for neither more booze, nor cigarettes, so I called my brother Alex, asking if we could sell him a bottle of Vodka cause we bought the wrong alcohol, but already opened the bottle, so couldn't return it, however he could get it half price. He said yes *chuckles again* so we filled the empty bottle with water, and sold it to him. We got our booze and cigarettes, but I also paid later with a very large bruise on my upper arm after Alex found out he paid almost 70 bucks for water*chuckles*

For a ‘weird’ habit or tic that no one knows about Willow: *Snorts* I'm a pretty open book to be fair, so I dunno if there's anything I do that no one knows of? Well maybe there is, but not like it's because I keep it as a secret, maybe more the fact that I live alone, and I suppose I do stuff in my own home all the time that no one witnesses? Hm.... I eat Tabasco on wine gums when I watch pro wrestling, I dunno if that's considered a weird habit? Anyway, *shrugs* no one knows abut this cause I watch wrestling alone, since I don't know anyone who wants to watch it with me. Wusses *laughs loud and hoarsely*

For a talent that they like to keep hidden from others Adrian: *Annoyed sigh* I have 3 talents... 4.... which I don't really share with people, unless they are really close to me. It's not secrets, it's just... *shrugs*.... private. I'm private. I paint and draw, I play guitar, I sing, and I cook. All 4 fairly well. But I keep it mostly to myself, cause if others know, it always leads to some sort of social escapade, such as 'sing for me!'. *Frowns*

For a secret item they keep (stuffed animal, comfort object, etc) Dalton: Uhm *chuckles deeply* that's kinda sort of embarrassing *cheeky grin*... Sul sul to Sulani

After a 10 hours flight, the roommates finally made it to Sulani, though on top of that they had to wait an extra two hours for Dawud’s flight to show up, since he was still in his Arizonan hometown. Like, would have been a bit of a waste of time for him to fly back to San Myshuno just to be with his friends, and then fly to Sulani. Now, the group was rushing themselves to go to their vacation house, as the Sulani sun is not exactly vampire friendly, the heat was killing Rudi, and Daniele just wanted to finally be at the destination.

Daniele: Dude, I missed you so much! Dawud: I’ve been gone for five days. Daniele: It was too much for me. Rudi: Ok you two calm down...By the way, Dawud, count yourself lucky you weren’t in the plane with us. I was sitting next to Daniele and he spent the entire flight watching episodes of Aircrash Investigation and then giggling when I said it’s making me uncomfortable. Daniele: What, it was actually very interesting ok, I learnt a lot of stuff! Like, did you know the deadliest plane crash in history happened in the Canary Islands of all place? I didn’t know that. And it even happened on my mom’s 10th birthday. Rudi: My dad died in a plane crash you asshole! Daniele: Well you should have said it, bruh I can’t read your mind! Dawud: Even then, that’s still a bit rude to do Dan... Kino: You think that’s bad? I got my period during the flight! Like great, the trip has barely started yet and it’s already ruined... Dawud: Your...You have that??? Kino: Well, if we ignore the part Sixamians only have one sex, we reproduce pretty much like Earthlings, so keeping that in mind it’s pretty obvious I would. Daniele: Duh. Dawud: Ok, sorry for not ever thinking about alien menstruations I guess??? Akva: At least that means you’re not pregnant. Fuck, how will my friend react uh? I should have tell her in advance fuuuuuck... Charlie: Will you please hurry up I’m gonna burn alive if you don’t move right now!

The reason for this trip was because Akva got invited by her best friend from high school, June, to come visit her, and she’ll be the one hosting them during their vacations. The two hadn’t seen each other in forever, as June moved to Sulani as soon as she graduated. The reason for that is she moved there to study environmental science and then do work as a oceanic wildlife conservationist. To her, saving the ocean is a major issues, especially for Sulani, which is deeply affected by climate change by virtue of being a tiny island country in Polynesia, located around 50 miles south of Hawaii.

June: AKVAMAREEN!!

As soon as the young woman saw her friend, she rushed down the stairs and jumped on her to hug her. However, Akva quickly pushed her away, because...you know.

Akva: Please be careful... June: Why...OH! Uh...Are you...Wait...No way?? Akva: Yeah..................That’s why I’m dressed in these awful leggings that look straight out of a Facebook MLM, none of my clothes fit anymore and I got desperate. June: When you said you had a big new for me and were bringing new people I thought you had gotten a girlfriend. Girl, what the fuck! Akva: By the way, I see you’re still super short. June: Miss Singh, don’t try to switch the topic on me...Also who even is the dad?? Akva: Remember last winter when I dated Jay for like two months before realizing I’m a lesbian... June: REALLY? Akva did some sort of middle point between cringing and smiling, then shook her head. Then, the realization Jay was also on the island right now horrified her...Well, seems like she won’t be able to keep the secret for long. All of this noise outside attracted the attention of the actual owner of the house, a world famous professional surfer...Though to June, she’ll forever be her beloved older sister.

June: So, anyway, hello Akvamareen’s friends. My name is June Crosdale, I’m 20 years old and I love sea turtles. And this is my big sister Antoinette Crosdale, she is 25 years old, she loves surfing and also cheesy rom-com. Dawud: June and ANTOINETTE??? Is it just me or do the vibe of these two names doesn’t fit? It would be like if I had a brother named Jean-Claude. June: And we also have an older sister named Eduarda. i work at a small coffee shop that’s also a chocolate/ice cream store (i will not be writing a coffee shop au, unless it’s for one of the unholy trinity or someone who has a plot idea that will make me overlook writing my job in fanfic). i do actually think i am the hottest person in the room most of the time, and the funniest at least half of the time.

My hobbies include complaining, playing ps4 or my nintendo switch (please tell me if u play ACNH, i had to get a new switch and my whole ass island was deleted. i need some fucking iron nuggets please im begging on my knees), and playing chess on chess dot com. (yes, im single, thank u for asking). i can play a weird variety of instruments but not well. I rewatch glee every other month, and twilight every month. i can recite the entire first 20-30 mins of the emperor’s new groove from memory, and also most of yzma’s lines. i have a lot of love for satire and adult cartoons, meaning i will unironically defend south park (but my favorite adult cartoons are bob’s burgers, king of the hill, and futurama) my favorite color is pink, my favorite singers are Amy Winehouse & Taylor Swift (and i could write an entire essay on their lyrical geniuses, musical styles, and what songs of theirs i think go together perfectly). my favorite food is potatoes, my favorite animals are bears (specifically the spectacled bear), and my favorite flowers are pink japanese camellias. now you know the most intimate details of my personality. holy shit are you still reading. bro i just put this here because i thought it would be funny. i ddin’t even think someone would read this post. damn u must really wanna know abt me huh. ok well my favorite alcoholic drink is some goddamn jim beam bourbon or whiskey over a lot of ice. close second is jack and coke. i’m on antipsychotics so i can’t get drunk often, and when i do it’s after 2 drinks. i can’t take nyquil because it aggravates my mental issues. i am allergic to pollen, tree nuts, and literal spiders and mosquitoes (their bites give me rashes that look like im dying of some rare disease). i have 8 tattoos. i do 2000 crunches a day. i can hold a plank for 2 mins and 33 seconds. (learning margot robbie can do this for 4 mins has awakened something very competitive in me). i can hold the flex arm hang for so long i get bored and have to stop. holy shit dude ur still reading? jesus chirst. i can read tarot cards. i can read runestones. i’ve had the same nightmare/dream since i was 7, in different angles / places / scenarios, but always the same universe. i read wiki articles for fun and it’s not even about cool things like ww1 or the geneva convention. i have 2 older brothers that i love. we are the same people. my mom is my favorite person. she is why my brothers and i are Like That. my stepdad gave me good taste in film and women. my stepmom’s life is more interesting than mine or yours ever will be. my dad is slowly becoming a swifty, but he’s also unfortunately starting to fall down the right-wing pipeline and it’s a mega fucking bummer dude. thanks, joe rogan. i can do a not good kermit the frog impression but by god will i keep doing it. if im not in film for writing or directing then im going for acting bc at the end of the day at least im cute and funny. i am fully convinced i could kick ben shapiro’s ass. i am also fully convinced i could kick joe rogan’s ass. i play chess so that if i am for whatever reason challenged by andrew tate, i can humiliate him and make him fucking weep. and i also just like it and have been playing it my entire life. i am a certified pothead and stoner, and i vibe heaviest w the sober ppl at parties. speaking of parties and bars, i am the drunk white girl in the bathroom that tells you you look beautiful, sometimes while sobbing. speaking of sobbing, i cry really easily watching movies and tv shows, and i have gotten really good at holding it back just enough so i get that cheryl blossom style single tear down the cheek for a bit. i can cry on command, and my form of self-defense is barking (and now ppl are starting to do it on tiktok so it feels less original but it also feels good knowing that it’s so fucking effective) ok dam if u really read all this ur fucking nuts dude kudos to u tho. i am literally actually insane though fr fr like not in a cute way literally in a ‘what is wrong with u’ way. lots of things is the answer.

Commentary #1: Parenthood. Free(?) Will. A Sense of Loss. (And a little bit of gender.)

Ok, so one of the most interesting things to me about a!Dave as seen in rng is that he desperately wants to be a dad(bro). To every iteration of Dirk, definitely, even though there’s two more than he expected, and one of them is an adult, and the other is an AI. Maybe even (occasionally, briefly) to the two teen versions of himself - kinda against his own will; definitely against theirs, for the most part. (And yeah, the latter there is probably mostly me getting my own headcanon all over stuff. The a!Dave who lives in my head is mostly rng’s, or at least based on my reading of that, but no two versions of a character, in different people’s heads, are ever entirely the same.)

One thing about Dave’s need to parent that I find interesting is where it comes from. Because Dave, like all the main characters of Homestuck, was constructed, by the game, to play a certain role in it/in its preparation (two roles, actually, because he’s a remake, but we’ll get to that in a later post). And I’m kind of... generally fascinated by characters who do not have free will with respect to some very important life choices, and who are aware of that, and do not rebel against it.

The game creates its players and their guardians, and although it is never stated directly in canon, it’s safe to assume that in the case of the guardians - like Dave here - it implants them with a strong urge or need to take care of “their” kid, the player destined to enter the game - for some value of “taking care”. (The game clearly doesn’t bother giving them anything else to help them in their purpose, and the parenting we see from them ranges, unsurprisingly, from somewhat negligent to outright terrible. But the fact that they tend to be bad at being guardians only underlines how strong the urge to be a guardian to their kid, their player, must be. Almost none of these folks would choose to be a parent, if something hadn’t built the need into their very DNA.)

Dave is a bit of a special case, because (in canon) he never actually meets his kid, because it just so happens that Dirk ends up living hundreds of years in his future. And in rng, by the time he enters the story and finally meets Dirk, he has already spent an entire lifetime (up to his death at age 65) alone.

So he’s a guy who has this strong, literally in-built urge/need to take care of a (specific) kid - albeit with absolutely none of the necessary skillls - who hasn’t ever had a chance to actually do that. It’s a lifelong sense of lack, but one he’s barely even aware of anymore because he’s covered it up with a lot of stuff (some of which perhaps kind of doubled as “taking care of” Dirk metaphorically, emotionally, on some level - like the rebellion: gotta make sure there’s a place for Dirk to live, in 400 years!)

And now he’s confronted with the kid, finally, and something in him just wants the life he could have had, if he had really been Dirk’s guardian the proper way, so, so badly. And it’s not gonna happen, because, well, Dirk is a ferociously independent 17-year-old, and also Dave is, well, a mess, and also, you can’t turn back time (well, you can, actually, in HS and in this story - these folks are all related to the literal god of time of their universe. But it would be a really bad idea, lol.)

There’s a tremendous sense of grief under the surface here.

(There’s also a second source for rng a!Dave’s urge to parent, I think, which is that he himself grew up entirely without family, and - this is strongly implied, at least - didn’t really get much of a chance to be a child, ever. And there’s grief, there, too, but it’s even more deeply buried.)

Last, but perhaps not least, I also find it very interesting to see “a strong urge to parent” given as a central character trait to a male character. That’s still not something you see a whole lot. And yes, it’s not idealised, natural parenthood; it’s a complicated and arguably selfish thing, artificial and broken and incomplete. But it *is* central. I like that. I like seeing a male character deal with that, for a change. Because this is usually an issue given (in fiction; but also ascribed in reality) to Childless Women of a Certain Age.
