nick and trubel, the ultimate father-daughter found family duo
i love the found family trope between all the grimm characters, but this adopted father-daughter duo is UNMATCHED and i wanna talk about it.
nick took her under his wing and let her stay with him and juliette because he KNEW what she was going through. when he first started seeing wesen, he had aunt marie and monroe to help him navigate it all. trubel had NOBODY. she watched a wesen kill her foster parents, and she was constantly getting attacked by these monsters that nobody else could see.
when she met nick, he showed her the trailer and the grimm books. he helped her realise she wasn’t going crazy, that he could see them too. i feel like it’s a parallel to aunt marie telling nick the truth when he first started seeing wesen - “… we can see them for what they really are” - telling him that he isn’t going crazy, that this is real.
marie also gives him the books and everything else in the trailer, all of which had been passed down generations of their family, and he lets trubel use them. i know that the others (hank, wu, etc) were also allowed to use them, but this was different. nick had known them for a long time before opening up to them about him being a grimm. him and trubel shared that ability, giving them an instant connection that didn’t exist between nick and anyone else.
i also love how every time trubel comes back, there’s such a pure reunion between her and her dad nick. it really does feel like she’s his grown-up child who’s left the nest and is coming back to spend some family time killing wesen visit.
i’m so glad the producers didn’t push a romance plot between them, because their dynamic is a beautiful example of found family done right.

“Today has been one of the better days of my life. Because I might be crazy, but now I know I’m not alone”
Сегодня был один из лучших дней в моей жизни. Может я и псих, но теперь знаю, что я не один.
“You know how sometimes you guys forget what an invaluable member of the force I am?”
Знаете, вы иногда забываете, какой я бесценный сотрудник.
“I like the way it moves. You know, different than any other piece”
Мне нравится, как он ходит. Не так как другие фигуры.
“It’s a relief to know, well, for you to know, ‘cause I already know”
Знать гораздо легче, ну, т.е. вам легче, я-то уже знаю.

do you ever think that after years of being called crazy that Trubel started to question her own sanity? that she started telling herself she was seeing things because it was easier that way, until she couldn’t keep pretending? that after she met Nick she ever wondered that she had lost it, because it was just too good to be true? the relief she felt knowing that there was an explanation (as whimsical as it may seem) for everything she had experienced, that there was a reason.. do you think she second-guessed it?

trubel and nikola: collage au? (maybe like, he's a teacher and she's a student?)
She isn't a student; he knows it from the first time he lays eyes on her. Oh, she blends in well enough: hoodie, ripped jeans, and worn tennis shoes. Besides, she's smart enough to keep her head down, slinking into the back row, and in a class of two hundred, she should disappear with ease.
But he knows people too well. Perhaps not as well as James, but well enough to pick her out of the crowd.
He should, most likely, report her. That's policy, after all. But she's one of the few in the class to actually stay awake, and though she never takes notes, it's clear she's following. So he doesn't report her. And when he smells food (strictly forbidden in the lecture hall) drifting from her direction, he looks away, so he doesn't see her scarfing it down.
She's careful; never there on testing day, and she always manages to slip out during pop quizzes. But she never stops coming.
Two months in, he decides introductions are in order. It isn't easy to catch her; she's always the first one out of the classroom, and normally at least one or two of his students have questions after. But this time, he points them all toward his TA (a different man might feel sorry for Henry, but the kid can handle it), and strides down the hallway after her.
Fortunately, the crowd of students pouring out of classes have slowed her down, and he's able to slip past her, casually stepping between her and the door.
"What's your name?"
She freezes, paling, and he almost feels guilty. Almost. Then her eyes dart around, taking in the scene, and something in her shifts. There's a wildness to her that screams of danger, a cornered animal ready to do whatever it takes to get out.
"Two months, and you still don't know?" She shifts on her feet. "Some teacher you are."
"Professor," he corrects automatically. "And we both know you're not one of my students, so no, I don't know your name. Take it easy," he adds, because he's trying to talk to her, not send her running to the next county. "I'm not kicking you out. Just want to know who to thank for not sleeping through my class."
She hesitates, but doesn't make a break for it, so that's something. "Theresa," she says at last, "but people don't call me that. Not twice, anyway."
"What do they call you?"
"Trubel."
Of course they do. He grins. “That’s what they call me, too. Well, Helen does, mostly, but apparently a lot of people agree with her.”
Her brows shoot up. “Dr. Magnus?”
Well, that’s something to unpack later. He’ll have to ask Helen about her; no doubt she’s noticed her. “Helen and I are old friends.” He drags out the words, lets the girl come to her own conclusions, grinning when her eyes widen (technically, he isn’t lying; whatever assumptions she makes, he can hardly be held accountable for them). “See you next time?”
She hesitates only a moment. “Sure. Not like I have anywhere better to be.”
Getting answers about this mystery girl will take time, he knows. But he has a feeling that today has been a step in the right direction.
