Various ways in which I have underestimated my chickens (callout post to myself):

cognitive abilities (memory): I dropped some pasta while making a salad earlier and Louise was nearby so I opened the door and invited her into the kitchen to come clean up. At first she just meandered round the room glaring suspiciously at furniture because she's unfamiliar with the inside of my house, then I helped her locate the pasta and she pounced, but before she could eat all of them Morille came zooming across the room with Pandolf zooming behind her, which freaked out the hen who noisily flew-ran out of the room. She stayed away long enough that when I called her inside again I expected her to have forgotten all about the pasta, and that I would have to show it to her again, but instead she went straight for it, resolutely, having clearly kept this important goal in a corner of her teeny tiny mind this whole time.

hunting abilities: before getting chickens I didn't realise they actually hunted? (sometimes.) I pictured their search for food as quiet foraging, busily scratching the dirt for worms, but a) hens are never quiet they're always chattering to each other so already that part was wrong; b) when they find a worthy prey they hunt it with the fierce determination of a mountain lion. I once saw Dru chasing a grasshopper across half the pasture, running at full chicken speed and sometimes boosting herself with her wings Mario kart-style while the grasshopper desperately hopped for its life, until eventually she pounced with her beak wide open and managed to catch it mid-jump. With an action movie soundtrack this scene would have been every bit as intense and gripping as a cheetah hunting a gazelle in a wildlife documentary.

social abilities (empathy): one time Cordélia had a little bit of grass stuck in her eye and she kept rubbing her head with her claw to try and dislodge it unsuccessfully, and then she seemingly asked Dru for help, placing her face very close to the other hen's face like "see that stupid twig?" and Dru removed it with her beak. Again that's not something I would have expected from a hen... they're very disloyal creatures, so it was fascinating to see. They would stab their grandma for a dusty rigatoni but leaving a friend with something stuck in her eye is apparently a level of antisocial even chickens won't cross.

social abilities pt.2 (romantic sensibility): sometimes when the night sky is clear and you can see the Milky Way, instead of tucking themselves in at sundown like they usually do, they'll fly to the roof of their coop and sit there for a little while to watch the stars together. Okay this one may be a tiny bit less scientific an observation than the others but I don't have an explanation for this behaviour; I've never noticed anything wrong with their coop on these particular nights, the door is open, they can go in—and the girls don't seem stressed at all, if anything they look like they're having a nice peaceful moment and I feel bad for bothering them.

#crawling along #they are not stargazing in this pic because they are now watching pandolf who is circling the coop. but they were just before!#also re: pt 3 it's very possible that rather than wanting to help #dru thought the blade of grass was a delicious food item she decided to steal #which would still make it a good example of chicken empathy but on cordy's part #she had to put herself in dru's shoes #what would i do if i were her? immediately steal the thing from my friend without remorse #therefore she will rid me of the annoying thing

Remember what happens in the story. Instead of binging it and immediately forgetting everything

i saw a video about the Queen in Dungeon Meshi and her skin colour. and people in the comments had all sorts of theories on why she and Flamela have such dark skin. and it made me realise that a lot of people haven’t seen this page of the Adventurers Bible:

#people were saying they’re dark elves (in universe that’s actually a sort of outdated term for elves who do ancient magic)#that they thought it was a weird reference to minstrel shows (not really my place to speak on it #but they are drawn like all the other characters just a flipped colour scheme)#that they’re drow (maybe design was inspired by that but that’s it)#dungeon meshi #delicious in dungeon #flamela #there’s a lot to speculate about in her backstory. why was her sister the one chosen? did the queen kill her to keep the throne to herself?#how was it growing up separated from her twin but still so obviously a royal?#also to note. the very first Queen we see. why is her ear mangled like that? interesting

wore my elizabeth dress for an afternoon tea at Ladurée. kindly excuse the awkward photos, i wanted to include some candid shots.. on that note, i love these little macaron stickers!! ♡

the inside was beautifully decorated, but it was too lovely of a day to not be seated outside. lots of green trees were gently swaying in the warm summer breeze.

you could also see reflections of tree leaves on the porcelain plates and in the tea. my boyfriend was able to capture this amazing shot!

chill sunday vibes. we went out earlier and watered the garden, picked some green beans, and whined about the tomatoes not being ripe yet, and now i'm doing some reading before i finish making supper.

After the events of ToA, when Apollo was visiting Meg in the summer (or was it mid-May), beside all the gardening and ice cream eating and evenings of watching scary movies, and just spending time together (they may have stolen some apples from the neighbours apple trees; or some cherries. Just maybe), they decided - Meg forced - to bake some cupcakes, because they were extremely bored.

Knowing the fact of then having the recipe, ingredients and absolutely zero skill in baking, the result was fairly great, even if it was burned a little and had too much or not enough of filling in them.

Then, one of them suggested putting some icing powder onto the cupcakes. They had a little bickering because "it is too sweet I am telling you—" .

After fifteen minutes of mastering the communication skills, it was put onto them.

The thing is, that they put the wrong powder and the cupcakes were covered in baking soda.

(It was the most delicious cupcakes both of them ever had.)

learned a very valuable lesson today

#for each DICKHEAD you encounter there will always be a kind person waiting for you :)#i was flabbergasted that everyone had decided to be an asshole towards me. a stranger #first scenario: i was in the train watching my phone and this older guy comes up to me and starts going off on a 'kids these days!!' rant #he basically told me that i was BEGGING to get my ass beaten and my phone stolen and he wouldnt come console me when i cried abt it #me being used to this treatment from my grandma i just went ok. and put my phone away #and obviously that pissed the guy even more so he continued to rant until it was his stop #i wasnt too pissed because i was going to HAVE A BURGER!! but still. what??#so i went to get that burger and wait for my mom so we can go to the farm #and the burger guy was extra niceys to me :) we joked around and stuff #AND THEN. scenario number two #i had my delicious burger and i was looking for a table when i saw two ladies sitting with and empty table next to them #and so i went! i was just about to sit down when a random lady SNATCHES the chair i was about to use #i was like WTF???#the two old ladies saw this and instantly went like wtf are you ok??? and starting having a go at the random woman #she ofc in good karen fashion didnt care. so the ladies let me have one of the chairs so i could sit next to them #the woman decided to sit right in front of us and so we started shit talking her between us. it was very fun tbh #i was genuinely bummed at these interactions till i realized that there were lots of strangers that were niceys to me #and have me extra ketchup #anyway!! im off to see my dog now #love u
