TOKYO MEW MEW REWATCH - EP 38

Certo che a volte l'anime originale se ne usciva con delle belle trovate, che alzavano di molto la posta in gioco per le eroine e rendevano i nemici molto più intelligenti e pericolosi. Usare la stessa energia degli attacchi delle nemiche contro di loro ... bella trovata, non c'è che dire.

Adorati i discorsi contrastanti tra Kisshu e Ryou, perché entrambi fanno un gran lavoro nell'esprimere le proprie ragioni.

Da una parte, abbiamo un popolo che potremmo definire di sfollati, finiti in una situazione ostile, che sognano il ritorno alla propria terra ancestrale, un paradiso in confronto al luogo in cui si trovano. E lo ritrovano invaso da una specie ai loro occhi estranea che l'ha rovinato, devastandolo per il proprio egoismo.

Dall'altra, come dice giustamente Ryou, chi se ne frega di chi sono gli alieni. Non tutti gli umani sono causa diretta di questa situazione, e ovviamente non vogliono vedere i propri cari soffrire e morire. Anche gli umani non hanno mai conosciuto altro mondo se non questo.

Tra l'altro prima volta che Ryou, pur continuando ad opporsi a loro, riconosce che gli alieni stiano combattendo per i propri cari, mentre in un episodio precedente aveva detto alle ragazze di non provare nemmeno a capirli. Bel momento di crescita del personaggio. Quanto mi rode che l'anime abbia tolto la parte manga in cui è lui stesso a dare la Mew Aqua residua agli alieni per salvare il proprio pianeta, sarebbe stata la conclusione perfetta del suo arco come personaggio!

Mi piace che gli alieni si siano semplicemente messi di mezzo e abbiano bloccato l'attacco. Fa chiedere perché non abbiamo provato a farlo tutte le altre volte, ma tant'è.

Probabilmente uno dei motivi per cui gli alieni sono diventati così popolari presso il fandom è che l'anime ha dedicato molta attenzione a come funzionassero le cose tra loro. Non erano i soliti antagonisti che compaiono quel tanto che basta a vederli complottare, avevano non solo una motivazione comprensibile, ma anche i loro legami tra loro, un affetto che li legava nonostante tutte le loro divergenze. Queste non sono persone vuote o emotivamente impoverite rispetto ai protagonisti: la loro reazione al vedere un amico ferito è la stessa che avrebbe un personaggio 'buono'.

Tra l'altro interessante come nella scena poco prima il Cavaliere Aò non batta ciglio al ferire gravemente qualcuno. Comprensibile dato che Kisshu è stato il primo ad attaccare, ma una tale impassibilità mi sembra molto più da Profondo Blu che da Masaya. Trovo sempre affascinante l'intrecciarsi di queste tre diverse identità.

A proposito di Profondo Blu, qui più che impassibile sembra provare un divertimento sadico a dire a Pai e Taruto di lasciar morire Kisshu, con tanto di risatina finale. Al suo ragionamento ci si può arrivare: perché mai lasciare in vita uno che 1) è ossessionato da una della fazione avversa e 2) ha già mostrato di avere dubbi verso Profondo Blu stesso. Buona occasione di liberarsene. Ma la soddisfazione davanti alla paura degli altri due, che prova? Indizio al fatto che non abbia minimamente a cuore gli alieni? Momento da villain generico? Una cosa non esclude l'altra?

Tra l'altro le reazioni qui possono fare da anticipazione a quelle che avranno nello scontro finale: Taruto protesta, cerca di opporsi all'ordine, mentre Pai accetta senza discutere.

Bel contrasto tra protagonisti e antagonisti: Ryou, facendo sfoggio di una maturità notevole, calma Ichigo nella sua crisi e la incoraggia a stare con un Masaya ferito, e mentre non permette alle altre di farle compagnia, resta il fatto che le ragazze si siano offerte in primo luogo.

In parole povere, le Mew Mew possono sempre contare sul reciproco sostegno (quando la logica filler non le manda ooc), mentre gli alieni vorrebbero aiutarsi tra loro, ma sono talmente sottoposti a una persona spietata che semplicemente non possono.

Ichigo che fa tutto il suo discorso sull'essere una Mew Mew a un Masaya svenuto, e la sua soluzione è smettere di vederlo e tornare a mettere distanza ... per carità, coerente con lo scorso episodio, ma preferisco la versiòne di manga e New, dove per salvarlo si trasforna davanti ai suoi occhi e affronta le conseguenze, quali che siano.

E poi scusa, se davvero il poverino non ne avesse saputo niente, pensa che non ci sarebbe rimasto male ad essere piantato dalla sua ragazza senza spiegazioni?

Da una parte, la scena in cui Masaya rivela il proprio passato a Ichigo mi piace, perché al contrario di manga e New non è un monologo interiore, è un vero e proprio disvelamento delle proprie fragilità e dei propri lati negativi da parte di una persona che interagisce con il mondo tramite una maschera.

Dall'altra, questo momento diventa fine a sè stesso, non viene più risollevato, non cambia di molto il modo in cui Ichigo si rapporta a Masaya. E per di più, dall'essere collegato alla rivelazione della sua natura come Profondo Blu, questo momento diventa dimenticabile.

Niente a che vedere con la spettacolare crisi di identità con cui ci ha deliziati New.

Tra l'altro, ma è l'anime in sè e per sé che ha smussato molto il discorso? Qui sembra che Masaya abbia voluto diventare il figlio perfetto per gratitudine verso i genitori che l'hanno adottato perché volevano semplicemente un figlio, nel manga la questione è posta in termini di sopravvivenza e assicurarsi una vita serena presso una coppia che stava esplicitamente cercando un buon erede.

Mentre una ricerca su come orfanotrofi e adozioni vengano gestiti in Giappone basta a far capire perché la questione sia stata posta in termini di sopravvivenza, mi è dispiaciuto veder smussato quest'angolo più cinico di Masaya e il suo senso di alienazione verso il resto dell'umanità, una delle cose che lo rendono un personaggio davvero interessante.

E finisce tutto con una scena molto dolce e romantica, con i due che riaffermano il proprio amore reciproco e il proprio desiderio di sostenersi a vicenda. Dai, ogni tanto anche il vecchio anime cacciava fuori scene carine per questa coppia.

It was surprising, but I think I liked how they handled the emotional rugpull of the Deep Blue transformation.

Deep Blue’s so in-control of himself, so regal and composed. He calmly announces his rule, is dispassionate about Pie and Kisshu and Tart apologizing for not “clearing out the vermin,” stands tall and unaffected.

He’s framed in these wide angled and distanced shots to get across Ichigo’s perspective on him.

In the original manga and the old anime, Ichigo and the Blue Knight are having a nice moment that’s the calm before the storm of the sudden transformation into Deep Blue, so Deep Blue immediate horror vibes were a contrast to how the scene had seemed so sweet and calm right before then.

But in New, Aoyama’s growing anxieties from the nightmares and Blue Knight’s narrow existence have already been building a crescendo.

There’s no calm before a storm this time. In fact, the usually stoic Blue Knight was having a full Ace Attorney style breakdown that’s been building up all season long. We just saw Aoyama have a monologue about how emotions and passion and connection are all so new to him, and so is this fear of losing all that. It’s a very raw, very human burst of emotions.

And Deep Blue arrives, and shows none of those hard-earned emotions of Aoyama at all.

It’s like music, I guess. For a song that starts soft and quiet, you simply build up louder and faster to get across a rising energy. For a song that’s already fast though, you can get that same effect by sharply dropping the tempo for a bit...

And then coming back up to speed.

i’m not gonna lie, i hate the editing in the new mew mew op so much. it looks so soulless and half-assed but maybe that’s just the problem with modern animation because everything nowadays boasts a complete lack of shading and spatial depth and most background art is so lazy and generic they could’ve stolen it from a stock website. to say nothing of the fact that most characters look like they’ve just been clicked and dragged on top of the underlying layer which makes the final product look too uncanny valley and only half-finished.

#it’s so disappointing bc i could do SO much better #like the scene where cat!ichigo and alto show up in the middle of empty space? it’s so ugly! #and the ending is too repetitive using repeat backgrounds and no blending of any kind between frames! #they could have used more overlay in the frame of ichigo choosing between kisshu and the blue knight #and the same goes for the frame of ryou and akasaka at cafe mew and the frame of mew zakuro and mew mint fighting together #there’s no blending! there’s no visual effects! there’s no overlay! it’s so ugly and soulless! #the backdrops are lazy and completely lacking in detail #the character art may be the only pro of the entire op but even then it needs more shading and lighting #the coloring is too flat and their eyes are dead #idk maybe i just miss the original tmm way too much… they recycled a lot of animations then too so i could just be overreacting #even the opening song is generic and doesn’t fit the mood of the original anime :( #idk all of it is just so meh to me i’d give it a b minus at best

Domanda: Ichigo ha sempre usato la sua arma su chimeri, ma su esseri umani e alieni che effetto avrebbe? Nulla di positivo, a giudicare dalla velocità con cui se la sono filata questi.

Li avrebbe ammazzati? Ryou, con che criterio sono state progettate quelle armi?

Ryou che proibisce a Keiichiro di indagare ulteriormente sul Cavaliere Blu senza motivo, giusto per renderlo più sospettoso. E quel commento sull'essere più pesante di quamto sembri, che c'entra ben poco col contegno generale del Cavaliere Blu ... New ha fatto un miglioramento a eliminare queste cose.

Okay ma questa sequenza è ridicolissima.

Qui sono in dubbio se apprezzare l'intelligenza di Kisshu o battere la testa contro il muro per quanto siano scemi gli altri due.

Ottimo il foreshadowing su Kisshu che mostra i primi dubbi su Deep Blue che non si è mai fatto vedere per aiutare la loro gente (e Pai che lo accusa di augurarsi l'estinzione del loro popolo. Ehm ... sta dicendo l'esatto opposto? Non è che ci sono stati errori di adattamento qui?) e Taruto che è lì che 'chissenefrega, l'importante è sapere chi siano i nemici'. Raga si sta discutendo di quello, della possibilità che il vostro capo stia aiutando i nemici in questione!

Questa è da rivedere al più presto in originale con sottotitoli inglesi, canneranno anche ma magari la cosa lì avrà più senso!

Tokyo Mew Mew New Ep 18 Toughts

Again this episode left me without words, i don’t know how or where to start. Guess I’ll start by saying what i liked the most

Number one gotta be kid Ryou playing scientist in his dad lab. not that the original depection of him was bad but this time I feel like he’s really into science, his father steps, the mew project everything

The original japanese subs said UMA which stands for Unidentified Mysterious Animal

ACTUAL SCIENCE AND UMA DNA LET’S GOOOOOO

this confirms his adoptation into the Shirogane family

The foreshadowing

Ryo’s father acknolodging his a must better scientist and researcher than him

Knowing the burdens Ryou will have if he continues the follow his foosteps

Aoyama nightmares continue, everything is under this blueish grey atmosphere, Darkness and ugly thoughts are consuming his mind

The Chimeras

They appeared cause Ryou was researching UMA? Or where the aliens already stablished on Earth? I hope we get answers to this

They have a gem, so it’s probably they were infused with an alien parasite by either the aliens or whatever Ryou was researching had escaped the lab

Family

Even though the shirogane family interaction with Keiichiro was short, i loved it, somehow I felt like he was a cared for member of their family and because of that the outcome was more emotional.

THANKS GOD, NEW DIDN’T MADE IT LOOK LIKE A SUICIDE LIKE IN THE MANGA OR A RANDOM FIRE STARTING LIKE IN THE ORIGINAL. She tried ... :( Mew Project The rest develops like in the manga and the original with Ryou having memorized everything but this time we get a glimpse into the research

They went to every spot that had the RDA they needed for research, based. We also see this two characters growing

I never about this because how cat Ryou looks in the original,but IS HE SUPPOSED TO BE A BLUE RUSSIAN?

Having Ichigo mention us, the mews, just  confirms what I’ve been saying, he cares for all the same way

A bit of character development on Ichigo side, she’s feeling guilty for the way she treats him, despite him caring for their safety even if its his fault that they’re in this situation, what a loop.

I love that they keep focusing on green enviromental solutions, more care for the enviroment, animals, plants, etc like we’d seen at the end of every TMM volume with WWF, this is the basic idea of TMM.

Nice plot idea for the aliens

It’s still a enemy of the day kinda of plot but with some truth behind its actions I LOVE IT

Can confirm this, I live near a river (Rio Tejo) and since the waters are more clean now every year we get visits from a dolphin family (will share videos later)

Confrontations

More Pie x Lettuce confrontation, YES YES YES, let’s develop this please, I want them to have a debate with each other

Lettuce stepping up, Ryou worried with her safety,, all it took was for her to stand firm in her belives, she was the best Mew for the job and she belives she can handle it then she’ll try no matter what, I know its hard to see but when Ryou’s looking at the red sea we can see a white thing moving, its Lettuce and Masha being swept away, that’s why Ryou says this line

I love how she relied on everyone trusting her to find the courage to keep going.

MVP, and the day is saved

Having the Nlue Knight not wanting Ichigo to fight anymore and only protecting her keeps following like the manga, I’ll share my thoughts when the reveal episode is released, to avoid spoilers for non-manga readers.

I loved Ryou’s reaction, as far as they all know, he can’t be trusted, he might be a manipulative character. Altough..... this leave little space to Ichigo wondering his identidy, because RYOU AND KEIICHIRO ARE RIGHT THERE

<3, Ichigo seeing her teammates are evolving, its so sweet

Aoyama ruining the mood XD but after what he witnessned on TV is normal for him to think that way.

I intreperted Ichigo line to what Aoyama said before, she’s not wondering about her relationship with him she said she’s happy being near him, she’s wondering about the planet’s conditions

This reverts back to episode 1, what can she do to protect the planet

I wonder what kind of approach will TMMN take to make Ichigo mind at ease, will it end with the final Mew Aqua, will it continue and develop to A La Mode? If she decides to follow alongside Aoyama’s dream, I hope they give us  a glimpse into A La Mode story.

Okay so, we can infer something major about the Deep Blue reveal from the latest HIDIVE trailer that I’ve been wondering about literally since last year. I am SO excited to see this detail but since it is a major TMMN spoiler I’m gonna throw it under a break in this post.

TMMN S2 spoilers under the cut!

So it’s pretty obvious that these two shots are from the scene in the manga where Quiche shows up to their picnic date and tries to egg both Ichigo and Masaya into transforming.

So is this one, where her bell slips off, but note that in the manga is just falls off without this direct parallel of Quiche watching it fall —

SO, in the setting of this scene, we know that this is where the Blue Knight absolutely tears Quiche to shreds. He goes in to stab Quiche, and in the manga, it’s heavily implied that this is the moment Quiche connects the dots that this is Deep Blue.

TMMN appears to be following the same pattern.

In a backlit light as he’s looking up at the Blue Knight, he sees Deep Blue in the Blue Knight’s shadow and makes the connection.

This scene did not exist in the original TMM anime. I am THRILLED that TMMN is letting the reveal play out the same way as the manga.

It brings such an interesting dynamic to the series when the one villain who has wavering intent is the only one who understands a key bit of information crucial to both sides.
