I don't think a lot of people understand just how sad Jason and Piper's bond was. Their whole relationship was created by Hera and the mist and it wasn't completely genuine. Piper realised that and let go. Jason still did like her, from what I understood, while Piper realised she's into girls. Then Jason dies and that's his tragic end. He never gets to solve out whatever they once had, even if it wasn't as real

Minor detail that lowkey devestates me is how in Burning Maze you find out about the jiper breakup from Mellie and Hedge, and the way Mellie refers to Jason as "that boy" and says his name with distaste (Apollo's words) implies that we're mad at Jason for the break up, meaning that people think Jason broke up with Piper/broke her heart, when it was HIM that got broken up with, and we just.... let them believe that
