Pairing: Jeff x Best friend!reader; Montgomery x reader

Warning: Bryce. Underage drinking. Mention of a car crash.

Word count: 1524 words.

Strangers. You became strangers overnight, acting as if nothing happened between the two of you but dragging many comments from Liberty's students whenever you walked by the crowded corridors. Some said you cheated on him with Jeff or Zach or whichever boy you were seen with, others said that he got bored of your relationship and wanted to head back to having girls in his bed and zero commitment but none of them got it right. At first, you felt bothered by that but by the end of the week, you just stopped listening and got back to being yourself again. Sure it was hard for you to just act as if nothing happened and certainly hide the reason why everything ended but you managed to and eventually found enough courage to attend Jessica's first party of the year on Friday. You knew he would be there. You knew it would be hard for you to fully enjoy the night but you had to do that. You had to prove to yourself, to everyone but more pretty sure to him that you were strong enough not to get held back by a breakup.

And there you were, standing in front of your bathroom mirror, getting ready before your best friend showed up. You usually didn't wear make-up or not lot if you did but somehow tonight you felt like a good cat-eye and red lips would do you great. "It should be illegal to look that damn perfect," Jeff stated with his most serious tone when you got in the car.

"You should have been arrested a long ago, then." You pointed out with a grin which made him chuckle.

"Oh, that was smooth, gorgeous."

There was still no one at Jessica's but you promised your friend to help her out with the whole putting away any valuable objects in her parents' room. When you first got in the house, you immediately spotted Zach, Justin, and Montgomery in the kitchen. Your heart skipped some beats when you caught his gaze on you but you quickly gathered your thoughts and followed Jessica upstairs. "Have you talked to each other ever since?"

"What?"

"You and Monty... Have you talked since the breakup?"

You sighed and sat on the edge of her bed. "There's nothing to talk about, Jess. He said everything."

"The looks you exchange say otherwise, (Y/N)."

You shook your head. "Trust me, there's no getting back together or fixing after that."

"Why?"

"I'll tell you everything after the party, how about that?"

"You're not escaping the conversation, I got my eyes on you, (Y/L/N)." Arms linked, you went back downstairs where the boys did an amazing job setting all the drinks and snacks while you were away. You didn't have to wait too long before people started coming and soon, the house was crowded with both people you knew and some you didn't. Games after games, drinks after drinks, the night went flying and fortunately, you kept your mind busy enough not to think about Montgomery.

"What is my favorite blonde doing here on his own?" You beamed leaning on the kitchen counter.

"Pretending to have fun." He raised his red cup to you and smiled.

You rolled your eyes. "This makes us two, Alex. I can't wait to leave this place and find the comfort of my bed back." As you spoke, you wrapped your arms around yourself and closed your eyes as if you had a blanket on your shoulders which made Alex laugh. "At least, I'm funny enough to make you laugh." You giggled.

"You're hilarious."

"Oh, stop, you'll make me blush."

"Flirting with someone else already?" You didn't have to face the person who was talking to guess who it was. "How about you do that with me? I'm a lot more interesting than Standall, you know."

"How about you fuck off, Walker? Sounds way more interesting than flirting with you." You shot back, arms crossed over your chest.

He didn't like the way you talked to him. He never did because unlike any other girl, you never showed any type of sympathy towards him and sure thing, this was never going to happen. He took a step closer to you, resting his hand on the kitchen counter beside you and leaned to whisper to your ear. "There's something else I'd like to fuck and believe me, (Y/N), I will." With this, he walked away, leaving you almost shaking.

"(Y/N), are you okay?" Alex placed his hand on your shoulder to bring you back from your thoughts.

You cracked a smile. "Yeah... Walker being an ass isn't something new, is it?" From a distance, Montgomery didn't miss the scene and tried as hard as he could not to go and beat the hell out of Bryce. "Zach, have you seen Jeff?"

"He is outside, about to head for a beer run."

You quickly excused yourself from both boys and rushed outside, pushing past the few drunk strangers until you reached the front yard where Jeff was talking to Clay. "There's my beauty." He said reaching for your hand to kiss the back of it.

"Zach told me you were heading for a beer run..."

"I promised Jessica I would, sweetheart."

You sighed. "But everyone is already drunk enough, Jeff..."

"That's what I was trying to tell him for the past fifteen minutes, (Y/N) but your best friend is a stubborn guy." Clay stated. "And he drank beers..."

"Two beers, two hours ago. I am good, really." You weren't fine with this. Jeff was a responsible guy but tonight out of all nights, you were feeling worried about him driving this late to get more alcohol. "This is Coke, guys." He rose his red cup to both of you.

"Careful on the road, Jeffereykins, okay?"

"I will be back before you even notice it." He whispered and kissed your forehead. "Stay with Zach, sweetheart." He draped his jacket on your shoulders.

You nodded. "I love you, Jeff."

"Love you too, my pretty girl." You watched him dump his cup in the trash can and jog to his car. You felt a lump in your stomach as his car speed away from your sight but you just shook your head and went back inside to look for Alex and Zach who were sitting on the couch. You sat by Alex's side, not really willing to feed the rumors even more by being next to Zach.

"I don't even know what I'm still doing here." The blond sounded bored which made both of you smile. It was typical Alex Standall to complain during any type of social events.

You ruffled his short bleached hair. "You're such an antisocial guy, Alex."

"Says the girl who'd rather be in her bed." He shot back with a smirk. You giggled and leaned back on the couch, plopping your legs on his lap. "So I'm your feet holder now?"

"Those shoes aren't that comfortable." You whined and wiggled your platform boots.

"Why you wearing them, then?"

"For the fashion, Standall."

"Which by the way, you look really beautiful tonight." Zach finally spoke, quite hesitantly.

Since you were in a very playful mood, you decided to tease the jock a little bit. "So I look horrible the rest of the time? I'm feeling really offended, Zach." You faked offense as you put your hand on your chest.

"I... No... I didn't mean it like that. You're always but just..."

You busted out in an uncontrollable laughter for a moment before you finally managed to calm down. "Oh, God... Sorry, Zach but teasing you is just fantastic."

"You're a horrible person, (Y/N)" Alex commented.

"Oh come on, I have been doing this for a full year."

"Poor me..." Zach sniffled before he chuckled.

You joked around for a long moment before you decided to move outside to get some fresh air and kept your conversation going about anything that came to your minds. You saw Sheri and Hannah leave closely followed by Clay. You assumed that once again, he couldn't get the bravery to make a move on her. "Where's Jess?" You asked Justin when he came outside, hands shoved deep in his pockets.

"Uh... Sleeping... She drank too much and... I just put her to bed." His behavior was weird but you just thought he was drunk too. As you were talking to Alex, you felt a sharp pain in your chest as if your heart was being squeezed.

"You good?"

You took a deep breath. "Yeah... It's just... I'm fine. Don't worry."

Clay came inside the house, panicked, hands soaked in blood. "Where's (Y/N)?" He asked some random people and they pointed outside, in the backyard. He pushed past them and rushed to you, breathless, shaking and not really sure on how to tell you what happened just a few minutes ago.

"Hey man, are you okay?" Justin looked at him and quickly noticed the blood covering his hands.

"Yeah... No... I..."

"Clay, what's going on?" Alex asked.

He looked at the boys first, then at you. "Jeff had an accident." It took you a few seconds to process what he just said. Your heart nearly stopped beating. "They took him to the hospital."
