initially i tried to conceptualize my alters/being a system as a bunch of various occupants of a voltron style mech but i think it's more like one of those.... -siiiiighs- wish it was something a bit more dignified, but it feels, more like one of those infinitely everting water wiggler toys with little sparkles and guys inside

that probably makes things Less comprehensible but i don't know how to explain it other than its not just the sparkles and guys but also the membrane and the goo in which they swim are also self aware so the whole thing can just slither around but the bigger guys inside can affect the direction and ease of movement

and sometimes the guys disagree, or disagree with the membrane or the goo, or the membrane and goo disagree with one another with the guys trapped inside and yadda yadda yadda

It's impossible to describe the experience of watching Total Forgiveness to people, like how do I explain that this is one of the most compelling shows I've ever watched and it's even one of my comfort rewatch shows but also I cannot rewatch a good third of the series because it makes me so viscerally uncomfortable and this would absolutely never be greenlit by the Dropout of today but it's also essential viewing for understanding not only the development of the company but the public personas of many of the key people involved in Dropout. It's funny and then it's painfully dark and then at the last minute it's hopeful and heartwarming again but damn if it isn't raw all the way through. From the crushing pressure of living under late-stage capitalism to the severe toll on personal relationships that the very premise of the show enables. Also there's a jaunty little soundtrack. 11/10 will rewatch again and again. Except the MLM challenge. I am psychologically unable to watch that again for any sum of money on this planet.

#the valley is posting #it's like my favourite rewatch show that i cannot watch a good third of #like the poop challenge is painful and the flea market challenge is like a slow motion tragedy #but something about the mlm challenge is just so viscerally uncomfortable that i cannot rewatch it to this day #and i think a lot of how dropout is today as a company is informed partially by the experience of making this show #obviously i have no inside knowledge on dropout's production practices #but it seems like they're very conscious about the safety and ongoing consent of everyone involved in a production #also total forgiveness showed that they were capable of doing high concept and high budget shows with a stunt and a money element #if you compare game changer s1 and s2 with later seasons (especially post lockdown) #you can see a change in the formula that invests more in the personalities on each episode rather than the novelty of the hook #more targeted episodes designed around specific casts and more game samers to test out potential spinoffs

what did you think about rqg finale (if you ever finished it)?

I did finish it - I caught up with the campaign in around June 2020 and listened week to week from then on - and I didn't care for it. Like, I was into it until midway through the final episode when suddenly the answer was "and now magic and the gods all go away, which has not at any point been indicated as a consequence, and is only happening because the party chose not to go with the mind-controlled stagnation option, ie, the one any reasonable person would pick." I did find that the two little epilogues helped and made me at least feel the characters had been well served in their endings, but yeah, it was a disappointment, and what's frustrating is that had that been teased in any way as a consequence it would have been great. Like I'm not mad magic and the gods went away; I'm mad that literally only showed up as a thing that would happen in the last half hour of what, 6 years of gameplay?

very surprisingly, it’s Prowl. Lockdown may be a huge flirt and shamelessly into PDA, but Prowl finds it very entertaining to tease Lockdown and watch this stoic bounty hunter turn into a flustered mess. it’s almost a way of Prowl showing off how he “tamed the beast”

oh absolutely. they’re both night owls and it’s really the only time they have to be vulnerable with each other and feel it’s private, as everybody else is sleeping
