Whenever I see discussions of BSD it's always with the assumption the Triparted Pact is correct- which, like, why?
Because it was Natsume's idea? The whole point of BSD is that no one is perfect - previously badass stoic mentor Fukuzawa just got a whole arc exposing his flaws and weaknesses because he trusts old friends too much and values people over morals. No one is all good and no one is all bad in BSD, why should Natsume be any different?
Most of what we've seen about him thus far seems to be positive - he helped out Ranpo in Untold Origins, got Fukuzawa that Abilities Permit (speaking of How Did He Do That), stopped Zenki Soukoku from killing each other in Cannibalism, got Oda to stop killing, etc. Which makes me think that we've got to see the flaws in him soon. He seems omnipotent, and seems to believe his method is the best way to protect the city - but that's never how it goes in BSD! Mori's whole Great Good thing is literally what makes him one of the series most antagonist antagonists!
Also, irl Natsume Soseki?? Awful fucking person. His students adored him, but he was cruel and abusive to his family, and I read in one source (this could be wrong) that he drove his wife insane?? Like I'm convinced he's going to turn out to be a darker character (possibly being an abusive mentor to Mori - like there has got to be a reason that man is Like That), and, by extension, we'll get his methods criticized - including the three way agreement he seems to believe is the only way to protect Yokohama.

Some more Midgaheim takes on the Greek Pantheon, including:
Zeus - everyone's dad, either literally or figuratively
Hera - the goddess of marriage who is reminded on a daily basis of the definition of irony thanks to her husband's frequent infidelity
Hecate - tripartate goddess of witchcraft, the occult, and the arcane
Athena - goddess of wisdom and war
Aphrodite - Aphrodite, Aphrodite, The Goddess of Love!

Ugh I forgot to turn on anon 😩
hmmm...
Mori Ogai. Do you ever think about [what if] how as a doctor treating patients, he actually lowkey cares abt them because he [kind of] is a 'caring' person. but he's forced into the role of the mafia boss.
Like in beast for example. When given the opportunity to be a caring guardian to kids, he actually does it well to beast Atsushi
The way Yokohama works with the whole Triparte arrangement, I don't believe a successful Port Mafia Boss can exist without having a certain amount of "care" or morality to them. And whatever else I could say about Mori, he's a successful boss.
Everything is for the sake of protecting the city, is it not? And when a greater threat approaches, he's willing to make an arrangement with other organizations. If he was only calculating and hostile, without a certain level of care, I'm not sure he would have maintained the ceasefire.
He sees problems and he fixes them. The former boss was reigning terror upon the city, he fixed it by slitting the old boss's throat. He saw a power vacuum after doing so, and stepped into the role. A year later, he saw a few problems. The old boss/arahabaki rumors, AND the conflict of the Sheep and the Mafia escalating. Both of these could lead to instability and unnecessary deaths. He fixes these all in one fell swoop by dragging Dazai's incredible reasoning & craftiness and Chuuya's quick-thinking & raw firepower into the mix to sort itself out.
I see Mori as an opportunist, honestly. He'll fix things where he can and keep things stable. He's still a doctor, a healer, he just deals with some pretty gnarly wounds with methods that will save lives but leave scars. Literally and metaphorically. He happened to end up in a pretty powerful place by stepping up when stairs were clear, but... in Beast, he's given the opportunity to step away, deal with a new problem (the orphanage) and takes it. He's not a perfect guy, I won't even call him a great guy, his morals are certainly a little screwy. But by any means necessary, he'll fix the problems he encounters. I can call that caring, in a way.

Jack + child of destiny
Hold the phone. Jack Kline IS LIKE Dorothy Baum in SPN 9x04
Tumblr media Tumblr media
DOROTHY: I met up with these three freedom fighters, and they thought I was this child of destiny chosen to kill the Wicked Witch. They protected me, and then the witch turned them into -- CHARLIE: A scarecrow, a tin man, and a lion? DOROTHY: And then she hunted me down and killed me. CHARLIE: Yeah, that never made it to the books. DOROTHY: Sometimes real life is darker than fiction.
///
CROWLEY (to SAM & DEAN): Wow. If it isn't the Scarecrow and the Tin Man.
SPN 9x04, Slumber Party
Of note, the Wicked Witch and Dorothy are bound, soul to soul. Like Jack & Chuck, perhaps? Or even triparted, like Jack & Amara & Chuck.
DOROTHY: A binding spell that came at a price -- her soul with mine. SAM: So you've been frozen with the witch for all this time? DOROTHY: Yes. Look, the witch cannot be killed. If I am awake, then so is she.

Anyone ever think about how the fivesome, the kaleidoscope sex scene and will’s drug induced “conjoining with hannibal” hallucination are basically a tripartate and the implications thereof?

Just another example of how society has taken occult and pagan symbols and made them "christian". It doesn't matter whether it is a symbol, a "holyday" (Christmas, Easter, lent, etc), or a doctrine, you can NOT take something pagan and make it holy. You can NOT take unrighteousness, and make it righteous.
Jesus said, “A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.” Matthew 7:18 KJV
It doesn't matter what is "in your heart", or what society (remember who is prince of this world?) says is "christian", it doesn't matter if you were raised with it. The devil does not play fair and he is sneaky sneaky.
If you are reading a Bible, you need to know where it came from. You need know the names Westcott, Hort, Tischendorf, Constantine Simonides, and cardinal Angelo Mai (and that is just some of them). You need to know the role gnostics, jesuits and the catholic church, played in the lines of the bibles.

The understated familial horror of the Magi and Ritsuko in Evangelion Like the fate of this organization and by extension the world rests on one human flawed woman understanding her mother as another flawed human being who turned herself into a tripart supercomputer representing the three sides of her personality and in order to communicate Ritsuko has to physically crawl into the edifice that is her mother and her mother's grave and poke a gross brain with needles. While middle aged and "independent" and working for the man her mother was obsessed with. I will die for anything

Ive been trying to translate this meme for fun practice for quite a hot minute using several different sources lol.
Its particularly challenging not due to limited vocab (dictionaries are quite accessible) but because I'm trying to sound as native as possible and theres lots of linguistic concepts featured and expounded upon in Horen that I'm still trying to figure out (like the differences between subject and ergative, and agent and patient in the tripartate system, etc). I struggled to figure out a way to translate sexual expression like "being turned on" since theres very little Na'vi resources discussing that lol (i found one [1] word explicitly related to sex in 2 dictionaries, mowan).
I digress lol.
Any help and review from any aysulfätu would be appreciated!! 😭
