Internet Etiquette
Devastating! You just saw a take that you don't agree with! This is a check for reading comprehension and the practice of good faith.
Analyze
What emotion was this intended to inspire?
What was the goal the speaker was trying to achieve?
How could this be interpreted differently?
Is there context that would change the meaning?
Is the speaker qualified?
Reflect
What is your first reaction and why did you have that specific reaction?
Is it an issue that is harming you and/or did the group being harmed directly state that this harms them?
Do you accept the consequences that could result from interacting?
Is the speaker someone you can reason with?
What assumptions are you making about the speaker?
Speak
What is the goal of your words?
What audience are you catering towards?
Are you talking to the person with respect?
How could your words be interpreted differently?
What reaction will people have towards your words and how is it being achieved?

let’s romanticise the “keep reading” feature
i know some of you new users aren’t as familiar with tumblr’s dashboard and that’s okay! i’m here to teach you a lil something that will revitalise the way you long post on this site.
tumblr has two forms: web browser and mobile app
no matter which way you prefer to post either long fic or simply have long posts about your life, current news affairs, whatever, there are now ways on both mobile and web to add a “keep reading” break. back in the early days of the app, we used to have to type out code that added the break [ READ MORE ] iykyk and it only sometimes worked. now we have a much easier button to press on both the web browser and the mobile app.
web:
Tumblr media
mobile:
Tumblr media
go forth and long post to your heart’s content!

For everyone who’s worried about interacting with people on tumblr I have a pro tip:
Use ask games!! Literally the lowest entry bar.
And if that’s still too much, I got nothing 😂 just please don’t expect creators to come track down everyone who secretly wants to be friends 🫠 I see my mutuals post them pretty often so there’s a good chance you have an in with them at some point.

If I reblog art and you leave a rude comment or a dig at OP’s skill or art style in the replies to the artist, know that:
I, the person who reblogged it, get a notification of your rudeness.
You have now embarrassed me because I am the cause of unnecessary rudeness coming into OP’s house.
I will block you if you keep doing this. Seriously what is wrong with people.

After blocking 56 totally empty blogs with the default pictures and absolutely nothing on them, I’d like to remind new folk here to change the default profile pic and get reblogging so you don’t look like gods damned bots!

VTM community, please be aware of an account called lucifer-s-understudy who has recently reposted vtm art without credit to their blog. Please block or report this account as you see fit.
For those who are not aware it is never okay to repost an artist's work without their permission and especially without linking to their socials/the original publication of the art piece.
It is not enough to say "I don't own this art" and post the art with "Credit to the artist/artist unknown."
Reposting art causes the artist to lose traffic and attention for the work on their own account and it's shitty enough for artists to go underappreciated for their work but for artists who make a living from their work this can be devastating.
Even when a reposter indicates that a work isn't theirs, often people will still leave comments and compliments as if it is, and those comments will never reach the original artist on reposted work. The reposter is diverting the artist's recognition.
If you would like to show off a certain art piece on tumblr it is imperative you reblog the artist's own post of that art.
If an art piece is not published by its artist on tumblr you simply do not get to post it on tumblr.
Thank you for listening to this PSA about the etiquette of art sharing.

User @mileapodevotion is reposting gifs from various KinnPorsche giffers. They removed watermarked gifs when I confronted them. But became defensive and uncooporative when I asked whether they made the unwatermarked gifs from the same post.
Tumblr media
As I feared, those gifs belong to other giffers. A reblog of mileapodevotion's post showed that it had my gifs as well as others cobbled together.
At the moment, the gifs that are still on this post have different colorings and qualities, a dead giveaway that they come from different sources.
Tumblr media
There are ways to tell if a gifset is reposted even without the watermark. First, the positioning and coloring. Second, the number of frames and frame speed. It is very hard to accidentally replicate these exact parameters on one gif much less every single gif in the entire set to match someone else's.
Please don't reblog a post that you suspect might contain stolen works.
Besides, if this user really did create these gifs, they wouldn't have had any problem showing the psd files. They of course don't have such files.
This is clearly a stealer who is reluctant to own up to their ignorance. They have one chance, shape up (stop stealing, apologize for their mistakes) or ship out. I imagine it'd be very hard for them to steal if half the community blocks them.
TL;DR Please respect giffers' works. Tumblr is the only platform where we can get them out to fandoms. Unchecked reposting makes creators lose trust and stop creating altogether.
REBLOG DON'T REPOST. Alert creators. Block reposters. Make sure they know reposting don't have a place in this space.
While we're at that, @staff can you please bring back the option to report misattribution?

someone explain tumblr etiquette to me. is it like twitter where you should follow back? is it rude to reply to people's posts when you don't know them/haven't interact before? is it rude to reblog/like a lot of posts in a row because if so then oh boy i'm off to a rough start

I don’t trust people on tumblr who have their faces as profile pictures

please for the love of god start using the read more function
see? it makes a dashboard easier to read! sure, some ppl turn on auto shortened posts, but ppl choose sensible places to shorten posts and machines do not
plus! the auto shorten function just completely cuts off a post, the read more function cuts off what you consider to be the supplementary info to the body of your post, while reblog comments from ppl after you will still show up on the main dash
Tumblr media
this ^^ sandwich looking thing is what the button looks like in the mobile editor
please be considerate to your fellow tublrinas and use the read more! it’s also likely to increase your posts’ circulation as ppl are more likely to want a neatly formatted post on their blog
you can use a read more in any body of your own post or reblog comment, but you can’t add one to someone else’s (oh what the john green cock monologue has taken from us)
this isn’t twitter! ramble away with ad many words as you’d like, but please do so politely
