How loosely or strictly do they use the word ‘friend’?

Phoebe uses the word friend very loosely, but only with entirely selfish intentions. She has learned how to gain people's trust, turning on the charm that makes people feel safe around her. They feel safe with her, more willing they are to let secrets slip.

She will make "friends" as an alibi, or use someone to get close to a target. She keeps drinking buddies at different taverns, mostly to stave off the appearance of being a "suspicious character" that would draw attention from locals. Are any of them real friends? Never. They may believe it but she will never let any of them see who she really is. Her faith in anyone knowing beyond the surface character she plays has been burned to the ground. She knows the only person she can ever trust is herself only.

Now, it's not impossible to be her friend... just very nearly. It would take something absolutely impressive to even start to gain her trust. Until that happens though, she will keep up her defenses so that no one can have an advantage over her.

She’s a lot better than she used to be! She was stubborn before about things she actually cared about (mostly getting her magic right), but certain people events encouraged this tenacity to an unhealthy extreme. It took a few years for her to unlearn this “I will get it right NOW or I will not rest until I do” mindset (unfortunately further necessitated by the fact that her attention span and concentration have never quite been the same after her existential limbo nap in the Shadowlands.) Now, she’s better about taking breaks for food or rest, and asking for help when her own reasoning and resources fail her.

Ilyssae is a nerd above all else. If there’s anything nerds are good at, it’s knowing stuff, and if they don’t know the answer to something then they go looking for someone who does know. The solution is always out there for those who have the tenacity and resourcefulness to find it.

(iIf only she could be this good at solving her interpersonal problems, then she might not be on such strained terms with her siblings. But alas, nobody in this family was taught healthy communication in their formative years, and we’re seeing the consequences of it now.)

I like this question! Honestly, I usually try to come up with a basic “look” first. I find it easier to come up with a personality and back story if I have a face to put it to. See my sketch page of random TTRPG characters from this past year:

Giving them a face gives me someone to talk to, and figure out who the are. Also, I can almost guarantee none of them look like their original versions anymore.

How easy is it for your character to laugh?

Ah! Two asks in such quick succession! Thank you!

Iseri and Jessi, as I'm on a dragon kick, are both quicker to laugh than almost any other emotion. It is easier to find joy with others than to dwell in the sorrows you might hold onto yourself. I'll also include my Moo's and my Death Knight, since there wasn't a specific character targeted! And they each have different ways they would react with their laughter.

Iseri specifically has a response of laughter in her awkwardness in dealing with the mortal races, as she has been locked away in the stasis with the other Dracthyr. She also tries to find joy in the new experiences she gets to have outside of the creche's.

Jessi is a sweet tempered dragon, sleepy and kind hearted. She loves to smile and laugh, feeling it softens her appearance and her ancientness towards the mortal races.

Paukala is a thoughtful shu'halo, often furrowing her brow in consideration and contemplation. It is harder for her to laugh, but mostly because she struggles getting the joke half the time. She laughs like a babbling brook though, and when she does it's usually spontaneous and bright.

Lailean on the other hand is a boisterous cow, laughter might be called her middle name! Smiling brightly with every interaction it's no wonder she chose to open a brewery to share her laughter and her brews with those who would enter!

Thaalrysa is a little trickier. Similar to Paukala she isn't quick to laughter, but it isn't because of her status as a risen soldier of the Scourge. Her emotions remain intact due to the unique circumstance of her raising, but she is a more serious woman. Prone to icy stares it is difficult to break through her facade, however her husband as well as those she would consider close get to see her laugh more often than not.

What’s something that makes them laugh every single time? Be specific!

Easy! Take @itsjustbeek ‘s Neil and @woofling ‘s Kavard, and put them in a room together. Based off their track record, odds are decent that they’ll either get into a noisy slapstick fight or manage to chaotically solve problems. (An example.) Either way, it’s free comedy! Ilyssae will absolutely egg them on for her own amusement if she’s lucky enough to be present.

Alas, Neil only occasionally works alongside Ily and Kavard’s guild, so more often than not she must make her own entertainment. Luckily she has her cats! Nimbus, Prince Cat, and sometimes her frostsaber Windsong are good sources of adorably goofy antics when playfulness strikes them. She’s also prone to hair- or tail-pulling urges when she’s in her corvid form and is way too easily amused watching people jump from it. Hell, sometimes she’ll slip some conjured snow down the back of someone’s shirt, just to watch them squirm!

In short, she’s a disarmingly reserved lil’ shit (affectionate) who delights in harmless chaos. Doesn’t make much difference if she’s instigating or merely witnessing it!

change: Has your OC ever drastically changed their appearance? Significant haircuts, big tattoos, complete wardrobe swap, etc? Why? How do they feel about the change?

At the death of his wife and children. Maxwell has totally transformed, the colors he wears has become duller and he has grown a beard. It was during this period that his hair began to become gray rather than red, their natural colors. He almost never broaches this subject, that he has changed so much.

Thank you @druidx for the tag, I do love a good long, drawn out, over-described kiss scene! This is Renathal and Elisewin's first kiss from An Ember Court to Remember.

The Maw Walker exhaled deeply as if the confession were a weight from which she had been freed. And Renathal could sense it distinctly on her again: the heady perfume of desire. He would know it anywhere, but from her it was flavoured differently.  Whether because of her race or her arcane magic or the fact that it was filtered through her mortal body, he was not sure - but he knew he wanted to drown in it. He leant down until his face was close enough to hers to feel her warm breath. “I also enjoy your company. Immensely. I should … like to enjoy it more.” Renathal spoke as plainly as he could, mirroring the Maw Walker’s forthright approach to truth he so admired. It made her smile. “I would be amenable to that,” she replied. Her eyes flicked to his lips. And she was still smiling when Renathal kissed her for the first time. It occurred to him again after their lips met - tentatively, exploring - that the Maw Walker was not Venthyr. Her lips were soft, her mouth as warm as the rest of her, her taste heady and unfamiliar. Renathal wondered what he felt like to her. He would be so much colder and sharper, he knew. But this wary train of thought evaporated as the Maw Walker’s kiss grew more eager. Her hands crept delicately up his chest, skimming his face, threading their way through his long hair, and he allowed himself to sink into her. Renathal was a master of control, but this was a temptation the likes of which he had never faced. The Maw Walker’s warmth suffused him, starting at his mouth and leaving trails of thrilling energy everywhere she touched. He could not stop his hands clutching at her waist, canting her hips closer to him as she stood on tiptoe, trying instinctively to feel her heat against every part of him. And if he thought he would be content with a dance, a kiss, Renathal had gravely underestimated the depth of his own desire. He needed all of her. Everything.
