The other half of how Debbie and friends see one another, stars indicate self perception. First part here.
They sure have some conflicting opinions of each other.

March 2, 2024 - Rufous-crowned Greenlet (Hylophilus poicilotis)
Found in southeastern Brazil, eastern Paraguay, and northern Argentina, these birds in the vireo family live in lowland and mountain forests and woodlands. They feed primarily on invertebrates, along with some fruit, foraging alone, in pairs, and in small flocks, sometimes with other species. Very little is known about their breeding behavior, though a bird was seen with green moss in late September and they have been observed in likely family groups of up to six birds.

In September, I:
Started a massive data cleanup project at work on a file that tracks nearly 46,000 birds banded in Alberta, Canada
Started an illustration project for an upcoming board game
This week, I can now say I've completed both! I can't show off any of the new art until sometime next year, and there are no cool visuals I can supply for the Canadian data, but I can give you all this little preview of yet another project, a publication that has been accepted and will be released sometime soonish. And conveniently, this Blue-headed Vireo is one of the common species in the Canadian data so there, I feel like it's related.
Phew. Time to breathe before I plunge headfirst into the next big long-term project, which starts in January! Never not busy!

BOTD: Blue-headed Vireo
Photo: Ryan Mandelbaum
"This vireo is common in summer in mixed forest, where conifers and deciduous trees grow together. When feeding, it works rather deliberately along branches, searching for insects. Its nest, a bulky cup suspended in the fork of a twig, is often easy to find. This bird was formerly lumped with the western Plumbeous and Cassin's vireos under the name Solitary Vireo."

Black-capped Vireo (Vireo atricapilla), family Vireonidae, central TX, USA
Formerly listed as endangered, the species was taken off of the endangered species list by the USFWS in 2018. Numbers had risen due to successful recovery projects.
Black caps have a limited area where they nest, mostly in Shin Oaks, in central TX, southern OK, and northern Mexico.

December 31, 2023 - Yellow-green Vireo (Vireo flavoviridis)
Breeding from far southern Texas in the United States through Mexico and much of Central America, these vireos winter in parts of northern and western South America as far south as Bolivia. They feed on insects such as beetles and caterpillars, as well as spiders, and some berries and seeds. Females build cup or pouch-shaped nests from grass blades, plant fibers, spiderwebs, bark, and other materials. Though they incubate the eggs alone, both parents feed the chicks.
