Started playing the demo for Virgo vs the Zodiac yesterday! I don't wanna buy the full game yet cause I don't wanna spend money impulsively, but it's been really promising so far. And fun :D

I remember first hearing about it years ago when it was still in development and thinking it was a fever dream or something, but it's real and I'm so fucking happy about it.

Early Thoughts in the Stars

Virgo Vs The Zodiac was a day 1 buy for me on PC, but unfortunately right after that my laptop had problems. So, there was an annoying delay before the stars were in my favor.

Right off the bat, there's a ton of things that this game does that I want to talk about. Hence, why we're here for an early thought piece:

The visuals and UI

The pixel art, the color palettes, the UI... it's all gorgeous! Everything is an utter delight to look at, and believe me, I've spent a lot of time just trying to explore and interact with every object on the map.

There's a Save Dinosaur

Besides being the coolest idea for the save and load menus, there's also ample room to accommodate the branching choices the game offers you.

The Battle System

The turn based battles are somewhat overwhelming at first, but once it clicks the system is really fun! You have both a health bar and a purity bar to manage.

Purity can work as a shield and as a way to earn a bonus counter attack, but that also depends on timed button input.

There's also a rock-paper-scissors system at play as well.

I highly recommend visiting this article. It does an amazing job explaining this system in way better detail!

The Humor

I may be early on, but it's obvious that this game is packed with characters and objects to interact with. Most things will bring up unique dialogue and descriptions, and the best part is that it's often quite funny!

inspiration: tbh, frankie started out as a kingsmen oc and then she morphed into a shingeki no kyoijin oc and then i was gonna make her in the far cry 5 world and finally i just decided to make her a fandomless oc. after that, i kind of honed in and wanted to focus on making her ugly. not physically, i mean, but mentally, spiritually. emotionally? ugly. i wanted to add a repulsiveness to her. she's hypersexual (which i am not saying is inherently something to look down on, just that like all mental illness', parts of it can have huge negative effects on that person and the lives of those around them), and i wanted to show the ugly parts of that especially. the cheating, the self destructive sexual tendencies, the casualness in which she hurts people and her adherent selfishness. she has a plethora of undesirable traits, yet i also wanted to make her a nurse because she has so much desire in her heart to take care of people to make up for never having that in her most formidable years. i wanted to make her really human and flawed and not a good person, but not entirely bad either.

inspiration: When it comes to inspiration for Eve, honestly I just read various works from other creators in series I enjoy! I usually use a mixture of wholesome and motherly characters vs the badshit crazy ones. I usually don't need a lot of inspiration from other characters in order to depict what I want to show, but when I have a starting point, I can usually find characters that I can relate to Eve or other characters I have played before! I haven't been roleplaying Eve long enough to really have any thoughts of who I can inspire her after as of yet! I usually use songs and music to help me figure out moods!

story behind url: honestly I'm pretty simple and easy when it comes to urls, sometimes it takes me two changes to really find one that fits. But I tend to use ideas in which can relate or inspire the muse, eden of course from the garden of eden, and poise simply because it means to have composure and other such feats I take into account for her character!

fun fact about me: i just graduated from university with an animation degree! i spend my time working on animations, artwork, and building up money and a portfolio! another fun fact is that I actually started roleplaying many years ago, probably around six years ago?? at least five years, and then I left for a portion of those years due to school, work, among not having the inspiration to return. coming back, lot has changed but I'm so happy to see friends I made a long time ago are still around.

Comfort character: Harley Quinn, easily, her character arc over the years is so special to me, I love the joker don’t get me wrong (I’m toxic) but I’ve loved watching her become an independent baddie and now she’s with Ivy? She’s my everything. (honorable mention for Kuromi tho)

Extra vs Introvert: I’m kinda both? Like I’m really shy in public situations where I don’t know people very well but if it’s my friends or people I’m comfortable with my loud ass is running the room. eliana was adopted into the jimenez family when she was just a baby. she knows she’s adopted and she’s cool with it. nothing has ever really sparked her interest in wanting to know who her biological parents are, though both of her dads have always been very open to helping her if she ever chose to go down that path.

she is pretty down to earth, a lover of nature, and enjoys traveling. growing up one of eli’s dads worked for american airlines, and so it meant she was able to travel to various parts of the world for free. even if at  times she had to spend the night in airports or be there practically all day, eli loved whenever they would visit a new place. she’s visited many places and if you ask she’s  happy to tell you about it.

during elementary she got bullied pretty badly by the girls in her grade. for some reason they just didn’t like her, regardless how kind eli always was towards them. but despite this, she did have a small group of friends who stuck by her side and helped her through the tough times she faced in school. and she did fight back when it got to be too much but for the most part, no matter what she did,  it really left her anxious about people in general and she silently hated herself over it.

she crossed paths with the person who would grow to become her best friend, better half, and someone very special to her, WC TO BE ADDED. it started with a silly tour around the town which ended with the two of them sharing a pizza on top of the the roof of a random building while talking the night away until the sunrise. suddenly, life seemed like a little more brighter for eliana. 

however, somewhere along the lines, eli lost herself. on the outside she makes it look like everything is put together, like she’s okay, but in reality her world is slowly unraveling around her. she began hanging around a rougher crowd who introduced her to various new things in life, and even though it all seemed so incredible at first, that quickly came at a price. before she knew it she was growing dependent on the way the drugs, how they could just numb everything and make it all feel okay for a little bit, and it’s a habit that she has carried secretly to this day. does she know she needs help? yes. will she seek it out? probably not. with everything going on in life these days, she feels she’s but a speck in the whole thing and she shouldn’t bother anyone, especially her closest friends, over something she feels is her own fault.

for the most part, eli can be found sketching away in various parts of the town while on break or at the beach. she loves her job as a waitress and tries to always have a smile on her face when at work.

RUSSIAN BLUE there’s one person whom she enjoys spending time with but… she’s not sure she’s able to take the next step with them. although they are forming a close friendship so far.

SCOTTISH FOLD - a roommate! maybe they only see each other at night or the weekends and they are still a bit awkward around each other or maybe they are super tight and have weekly traditions lol or if you’re feeling zesty… maybe they don’t really get along due to a misunderstanding?  for one reason or another these two ended up roomies though.

college was a blast for emmett.  they fell in love with everything about it, especially the late night with friends. he started off trying to major in criminal justice, having always had an interest in that field, but by the time they were in their second year the guy knew his path was somewhere in the arts. a famous actor? nah. live theatre? perhaps. but the inspiration to become an art teacher happened one day when emmett was helping one of their nephews create a macaroni art project during winter break. soon after, em began to volunteer at local children's hospital to help bring a little bit of color to their world while and they also just really loved the idea of being like an older sibling figure to them.

after graduation, it didn't take long for em to land a job at the moorbrooke elementary school as one of its art teachers. they couldn't imagine life as anything else, though em sometimes still wondered what life would've been like had they gone down the path of criminal justice. he does everything in his power to bring as much laughter, brightness, and creativity to his classroom. from the moment the kids step through his classroom doors they are encouraged to be whoever they want to be. if they want to be an apple that day, then an apple they will be. and em loves to do mini art shows with them in which he displays their art throughout the room, brings some snacks for them, and lets them all walk around to admire each other's paintings. there's not a single day that he doesn't end his lessons with a round of 'positive thoughts' which means every student must say something positive about one classmate and no repeats, so it's fair for everyone.

he is the type of person who greets everyone with a smile and always tries to make someone laugh. if you need someone at 3am just because you want to talk, emmett would be there in a heartbeat. he’ll always be a shoulder for anyone to cry on if needed. but, he’s also not afraid to fight for what he believes in and for those dear to him.
