Pokemon made the most gut-wrenching villain ever, then he just disappeared
Volo was an extremely off-putting guy and that made him so awesome. Throughout the game I only mildly was suspicious of him, I really trusted him a lot especially when he helps you at that like part of the game where ur literally exiled lmfao
But he slowly gets like... Weirder and weirder until he eventually just goes insane. It's amazing. His fight is also really unique, he basically has 8 pokemon. And EXTREMELY CHALLENGING. He being Cynthia's ancestor is no joke. I only won because I had an extremely over leveled H.Zoroark. also, him being Cynthia's ancestor just makes him that much cooler. Like- you wouldn't expect Cynthia's greathreatgreatgreat grandpa or whatever to be so evil.
Also everyone says he looks like an idiot in his final battle design but I rlly like it [he's a lil stupid though]
Idk man
Nintendo give us Volo back he'd be really cool to see again
Have him like. Destroy the world idk

A New Years Fresh Start - Volo x reader
Tumblr media
Title: A New Years Fresh Start Chapters: 14 Words: 3,500+ (3,884)
Summary: It’s New Years Eve. You’ve been looking for Volo for months with no information on his whereabouts. You head out of Jubilife Village in the dead of winter to find some closure, only to find more closure than you’ve anticipated. (Self insert fic, redemption arc for Volo. Reader is the main/playable character, but is an adult.)
apparently reader insert fics are against ffnet’s community guidelines, which really sucks, considering that’s all i write now. so i’ll just re-post this one here <3
(1)
There you were: laying in a bed that clearly wasn't yours. White sheets covered your body, keeping you warm from the chill that lay just outside the door. You looked around to see the inside of a cozy, remote cottage. Your eyes were still adjusting from being blinded by the snow outside, so everything was slightly blurry for a moment. But, when that settled, your eyes were focused on the blonde man next to you.
His hair was a mess from tossing and turning all night. The fact he was finally able to sleep was a miracle in itself. But, you couldn't blame him for his restlessness. Well… you could, but it wouldn't do either of you any good. You smiled at his soft snores. You'd waited what felt like an eternity to finally see him again, and you'd almost given up.
Let's face it. You had given up.
But, here you were.
_____
(2)
It was New Year's Eve. Jubilife Village had ended their celebration early, and you, being the adventurous Pokémon trainer they saw you to be, set off on a little adventure of your own. Professor Laventon saw you off as you left, now knowing the full extent of your situation.
"I hope you find closure, y/n. And, please… be safe."
You hugged him tightly before leaving, him hugging you just as tightly in return. The two of you were as close as family now. You'd like to think you were family, despite being from two completely different eras. You'd forgotten what family was until you met Laventon.
"If you need anything, you know where to find me."
And with that, you were off to the Colbalt Coastlands.
_____
(3)
You sat silently in your tiny tent high on the hill above the coast, watching the spheals roll around and play before they settle in for the night. The air blowing in from the ocean was frigid, but you paid no attention to it. You just stared out into the water, hoping, praying even, for a sign. But nothing. All you could hear were the waves crashing against Ginkgo Landing. After a while, it was clear: you weren't going to find closure if you were still looking for signs.
You took a couple deep breaths to keep yourself from going into a frenzied state, grabbing your pillow from your bag. You fluffed it and set it behind you, laying down just after. Bidoof snuggled up close you to. You smiled. Bidoof always knew when you needed comfort the most, and now was absolutely one of those times.
"Happy New Year, Bidoof. Thank you for always being there when I need you."
Bidoof let out a cheery squeak.
You closed your eyes. This was as much closure as you were going to get tonight. Luckily you had planned on staying out, so you brought some blankets to keep you warm. You took one last deep breath before trying to sleep. But, that's when you heard something out of the ordinary.
_____
(4)
A boat. A small boat.
You squinted your eyes to try to see it more clearly. You were sure it was just a passerby or one of the Ginkgo Guild members bringing in a late night delivery for Ginter and Tuli. But the more you looked, it became clear.
It was him.
You thought for just a moment on how to approach him, realizing you couldn't. But with all your training on tracking Pokémon, how hard could it be to track a human? Especially in the dead of winter.
You called Wyrdeer as quietly as you possibly could, as to not call attention to yourself in this moment. You scribbled a message down on a sheet of paper you'd ripped off from your notes. "Please give this to Professor Laventon." you whispered. And Wyrdeer was off.
_____
(5)
Your eyes were growing heavy, adrenaline the only thing keeping you awake. That, and well, the foot of snow you found yourself marching through. It was so easy to spot his tracks, and you wondered if he knew he was being followed. You shook off your nerves and persisted. You weren't going to wait any longer.
You were tired of waiting.
Eventually you ended up at a very small cottage, closer to the village than what you'd expected. How you'd ventured to Cogita's and never seen it was beyond you. You'd made the trip to her home every two-ish weeks to ask about the man, and she'd always say the same thing.
"Give him time."
You weren't an expert or anything, but you were pretty sure the only one giving time around here was Dialga. That's what Adaman had you believing anyway.
You knelt down and peered from behind a bush as the man opened the door to his home. You watched him with anger. You couldn't help but to huff as the door closed behind him. You got up from your spot and walked to the door, wondering if it was a good idea to knock. But, deep down, you didn't care.
You knocked.
A few seconds went by. No one answered. You still waited though, knowing that the man was either ignoring the knocks of of spite or out of complete fear for his life.
You knocked again.
It wasn't until your third knock that the door opened. You watched as the man's expression change from relaxed to complete animosity towards you. It didn't scare you though. You were well past anger.
You were enraged.
You both stared at each other for a moment, eyes filled with fire. The man almost towered over you. You'd actually hoped it would intimidate you more, but it didn't. You could hear his breath: hard, shallow.
"What are you doing here, and how did you find me?" he asked, his voice almost in a whisper.
You sneered slightly. "We need to talk, Volo."
_____
(6)
Volo's home was warm. You were sitting directly across from him in front of the hearth, your coat and bag hanging on the hook next to the door. Both of you were staring daggers at each other. Volo was kind enough to offer you some tea when you came inside, which actually surprised you. You took a sip as he sighed heavily, his arms crossing as he did so.
"So, what do you want?" he asked coldly. You could hear his breathing over the crackle of the fire.
You took a moment to think. You didn't know why this wave of anxiety rushed over you, and you didn't necessarily want to speak your truth just yet. But, you knew you had to at some point. Was this it?
"Well?"
No. It wasn't.
"We'll get to that." you replied. "Where have you been off to?"
He simply shrugged. "None of your business."
The silence was deafening, neither of you wanting to answer the questions that mattered the most. You took another sip of tea, gulping hard in anger.
"Why did you seek me out?"
Just as Volo did moments ago, you shrugged with a smirk. "I don't know."
He leaned in close. "Don't lie to me, y/n."
You froze. You didn't quite know what to say without spilling your feelings all over the floor. His face was so close to yours, and you finally felt a sense of intimidation.
"Tell me…" he whispered. "Now."
_____
(7)
Tears welled up in your eyes. And they welled up quick. You were sobbing on the floor of Volo's cottage. He'd never seen you cry before, let alone show any emotion to the extreme… other than anger. But his expression didn't change. He was still waiting for an answer.
"Well, if you won't tell me, then I guess I—"
"You know if you'd actually take a second to think—"
"Think about what, y/n?!" Volo interrupted. "You haven't said anything interpretable since you came in, and you expect me to just sit here and wait for an answer when you're the one that sought me out?!"
You couldn't bare to look at him now. You covered your face with your hands, shaking from your emotions. "I just wanted to see you…"
He was silent.
"I'm sorry." you cried. "I made a mistake in coming here tonight."
You started to get up, but Volo gently grabbed your wrist to prevent you from doing so. You looked at him, your eyes almost blood red from crying the entire night… His expression softened.
"I'm sorry." he said. "I'm just really angry, and I want an answer." He sighed. "And you're not leaving until I get one."
"So you're holding me hostage until then?"
"Well, it's better than the alternative." He looked to the window, suggesting you should take a look outside. You got up and looked out to see another foot of snow had fallen since your arrival. "I may really hate you, but I'm not throwing you out in that." He paused. "I'd never forgive myself."
_____
(8)
You both watched as the blizzard continued. You hoped that Wyrdeer had reached Professor Laventon before the snow began. You were sure your letter had been delivered, but you just wondered if it hadn't. Would he assume you're safe?
"I don't think I've ever seen it snow this much in Hisui…"
You just stared out into the dark.
"I mean, with the exception of the Alabaster Icelands, but we won't count that."
You didn't reply. Volo looked at you with worried eyes, feeling that he'd gone too far. Considering he'd once tried to kill you, he wasn't sure why he felt this way. Maybe the greed from before?
"Y/n, I didn't mean to—"
"It's okay. I promise." you said softly. "It's not the first time I've been an emotional wreck today." You sighed. "Besides, I love watching the snow. It reminds me of my past somehow. I'm not sure how, but… it just seems familiar."
You both remained silent for quite some time. It was weird, to be quite honest. The tension was high… to you anyway. Volo grabbed a couple blankets and lead you to the hearth once again, smiling slightly as you both sat down. You remained expressionless, as Volo definitely knew how to read you.
"May I ask why you've been emotional all night?" Now having broken the silence, Volo reached for your hand. You nervously accepted his gesture. "I mean, if you're not comfortable with that, then that's fine, but… I would at least like to know why you wanted to see me."
You hesitated for a moment, knowing that this was now your opportunity to come clean about some things. He rubbed the top of your hand with his thumb, making you feel somewhat angry. You pulled your hand away and took a couple deep breaths.
"I'm sorry." he said.
You just shook your head.
"I didn't mean to—" He stopped mid sentence, now seeing more tears streaming down your face. "Are you okay?"
"No." You buried your face in your hands once again, sobbing into the blanket that he'd handed you moments ago.
Volo had no idea what to do. He was in an utter state of shock. The one he tried to sacrifice to his God was now in his home, sobbing, and he… actually cared? You swatted away at his hand when he attempted to brush a strand of hair from your face. "I'm sorry." he repeated.
You lifted your head, trying so hard to be articulate. "You know, it's really hard to hate someone who's caring for you in a time of need."
"So… you hate me?"
You shook your head and buried it back in the blanket. "No…"
Volo leaned in, placing his hand on your arm. "Please tell me so I can understand." He sighed gently. "I promise to not let my temper get the best of me."
_____
(9)
"You were trying to find closure?"
You nodded.
"From what, exactly?"
There was a twinkle in Volo's eye. You only saw him like this when you were both examining the ruins in the Coronet Highlands. You knew now he was being sincere.
"From situations that have arisen from… well… that night." you replied.
"Oh." Volo took a sip of tea.
"I'd wanted to ask you something, and when I turned around to do so… you weren't there." You bit your lip and looked at the floor. "So… I waited."
Volo took a second to respond. "What did you want to a— wait…" He knew. "You haven't…"
You shook your head. "No. I haven't met with Arceus."
"Y/n, don't you want to go home?" Volo asked.
"I don't know." You lifted your head and looked at him. "I feel like Hisui has become my home. And I know that complicates a lot of things, but I… I love how everyone cares for one another here. I don't think there's ever been a time like from when and where I'm from." You smiled. "Not like I can remember it or anything."
Volo chuckled. "You have a point." He paused, looking over to the window, and then back at you. "But why did you want to wait for me?"
You fell silent once again.
Volo caressed your face in his hand. "It's okay, y/n. You can tell me."
With a sigh, you answered. "I wanted you to come with me."
_____
(10)
He was shocked. Why would you, of all people, want him to come with you to meet Arceus?
"You helped me on this journey." you continued. "And, yes, you ultimately tried to sacrifice me to meet Arceus, but… you still helped me. And without your knowledge and keen eye for artifacts, I'd still be wandering Hisui for answers and guidance. You deserve it more than I do."
Volo remained silent, thinking on that night he left.
"I'd love it if we could go together."
He snapped back into reality. "Y/n, I can't accept this."
"Please?" You looked into his eyes. "I don't want to go alone."
"Then why not ask Cyllene or Kamado?"
"Because I wanted to ask you, Volo." You adjusted the blanket on your lap after speaking.
Volo, in a hushed tone, replied. "Y/n, I gave up everything after that battle. I know what I said was in interest of seeking out Arceus, but… but that's what got me… well us, into this mess in the first place. Yes, I'd still love to meet our creator, but I wan't to put that version of myself behind me."
"Well," you took a deep breath. "Maybe it could be a way of helping you find closure as well."
_____
(11)
"Wait wait wait." Volo laughed. "Tell me again, you were in the Coastlands before you came here?"
You were finally explaining to Volo how you found him. You two had been chatting for hours getting reacquainted with one another.
You nodded. "Yeah, I had gone to the Coastlands in hopes to find one last sign that you'd be there, and then I realized I was being stupid. I wouldn't have gone had I known about this massive snowstorm. Anyway, I ended up trying to fall asleep, but I heard a boat at the landing, and it turned out to be you."
"So, you followed me the entire way?"
"Mhm!"
Volo was more than surprised to hear this. "That's a long way, y/n. You could have gotten yourself into serious trouble." He wagged his finger at you like he did before. It made you smile. "And with the state I was in, had I known you were following me, I wouldn't have helped."
"Well, let's be glad I didn't get hurt."
He chuckled. "Yeah."
You both smiled at one another.
"You know," Volo went on. "I have missed traveling with you."
"Really?"
"Yeah! I mean, yes, it was for a deceitful cause, but deep down, I really enjoyed spending my time with you and sharing information about the places we'd visit." He slipped his hand over yours. "I'd love to do that again."
_____
(12)
The night went on. The snow storm had passed, and you both were looking out the window at the 4 feet of snow that lie on the ground. You weren't going to be able to leave for a while, and you were so glad to have finally reestablished a friendship, knowing now it was genuine and mutual. Your eyes were once again growing heavy, and Volo started to take notice of how tired you were. He placed his hand on the small of your back and led you to his bed.
"Get some sleep." he said, kissing your forehead.
You looked at him with wide eyes.
"What?" he asked. "Am I not allowed to do that?"
You bit your lip. "No! I just… um… I—"
He smiled. "You don't have to say anything. I know."
"What do you mean?"
He sat down beside you. "I've heard a lot from Cogita about your visits with her, how you'd vent about needing to speak with me, but never giving any full detail on why. She's a wise one. She could tell by the tone of your voice your true feelings, sharing that information with me when I'd be visiting."
You started at Volo, awestruck by his words.
"To be quite honest, I liked what I was hearing. It made me feel absolutely terrible about my actions, considering your feelings towards me hadn't been phased. And, you following me here tonight just proves that."
You remained silent.
Volo pulled you into a side hug, your head against his chest. He was warm. You could hear his heartbeat picking up the pace. He kissed your forehead once more. "I have to admit that I hated you at first. But, the more I got to know you, the more I liked you. I was so possessed with greed and hatred for the world that I thought pushing you away would fight off those feelings. But, that never happened." His eyes started to water. "I hated that I left you the way I did, angry and confused. I'll never forgive myself for the way I treated you." His breath hitched. "I'm sorry!"
_____
(13)
Both of you were seeing sides of each other that you never knew existed. You felt that butterfly feeling in your abdomen, just as you did when you two were adventuring together to find the plates. You rubbed his back gently. "It's okay. We're both here now."
He continued to sob uncontrollably. You got up to get him some water and a tissue, which he thanked you for. You could tell he was trying to fight off his exhaustion, as were you, and you were both failing to do so. You both laid down on his bed, looking at one another; both of you, eyes bloodshot from crying.
"Let's get some rest." you whispered. "I'm more than happy to continue our conversation in the morning."
Volo sniffled. "Before we sleep…" He paused. "can I ask you a question?"
"Of course."
Volo took your hand into his, kissing it gently. "If I were to say that I denounce Arceus as my God, would you still reciprocate the affection I hold for you?"
"Volo…"
"Would you?"
You smiled warmly at him. "Of course I would. But, why would denouncing Arceus have to do with anything in relation to that?"
"Because I want to worship you now."
_____
(14)
There you were: next to Volo on New Years Day, holding his hand while he slept. The whole night was filled with him tossing and turning in his sleep, unless you were in his arms. Daylight had just struck, and you were awoken by the bright, glittering snow, it blinding you momentarily. When your eyes adjusted, you looked at Volo, focusing on his features and how much happier he looked, even from when you two first met. You recounted everything from the night before, then remembering that your tent was still set up in the Coastlands, probably now filled to the brim with ice.
There was a flash beside you, and an Abra appeared. You looked closer to see it was Cyllene's, and in its hands was a letter. You took it with a smile.
'Y/n, I'm glad to hear you're safe in the Coastlands. I'm assuming you're safe still, wherever you are, considering I haven't gotten any notes or messages from any of your Pokémon. I understand you've found Volo, and though I would not recommend following him, I know you're going to anyway. I hope this little adventure helps you to find closure, and I can't wait for you to return home to Jubilife.
Love,
Professor Laventon
(P.S.: I had to wait to send this because Cyllene wouldn't let me use her Abra until I got her her morning cup of coffee.)'
"Thank you, Abra." you whispered as quietly as you could, as to not wake the blonde sleeping beauty next to you. "Wait just a moment."
You gently rolled out of bed to find a sheet of paper, remembering your bag was by the door. You sat down at the table with paper and a pencil to write something back to Laventon, because you knew he was worried regardless.
'Hi Professor! Things are going well, but I may not be back for a while due to the snow. I'm not sure how much the village has, but we've got about 4 feet here, so I' won't be leaving this cottage for a while. I wanted to let you know that I'm still safe, and Volo has let me stay with him until the snow melts and it's safe to return. And as for closure… we've discussed a lot of things, and I would prefer to tell you in person. I hope you understand. Thank you for being here for me in my toughest of times, and I hope to see you really soon.
Love,
y/n'
(P.S.: If Cyllene sees this, we're all toast.)
You handed the letter to Abra. "Please take this to Professor Laventon. And thank Cyllene for trusting us with you."
And with that, Abra vanished.
You crawled back into bed, covering yourself with the white sheets to keep warm. The fire had burned out, and you were far too tired still to relight it. Volo rolled over, still sleeping, and wrapped his arms around you. He was so warm and inviting. You buried your face into his neck, taking in his scent. You smiled blissfully. This was everything you could have ever wanted, and you had it.
And with that, you promptly fell back to sleep.

sorry for the continuous volo posting it's never gonna stop I miss him he was awesome
okay so I brainstormed up some ideas for if he's in the indigo disk dlc.... it's a LOT so it's gonna be under read more !! :]
okay so firstly. His disguise name. I haven't like chosen one I super duper like but I found a cool one !!
Dolion, which means deceitful, treacherous, and crafty!! One of the things it translates to is "to lie" so I think it'd fit a lot for him...
He'd be an explorer, maybe archeologist ?? which would account for the fact he has "weird pokemon"
His first team would be:
Sigilyph
Galarian Yamask
Spiritomb
[... I don't remember if these pokemon would be in the dlc so if they aren't I WILL make adjustments I'm just assuming they will be. Also lvls/movesets will depend on the lvls in the dlc too]
[just imagine he has like. Ancient-seeming, weirdo pokemon y'know??????]
Second battle would be:
Sigilyph
Runerigus
Spiritomb
Then later on, when he reveals who he is/you learn who he is his team is a little more similar to his old team!
He got access to terastylization somehow, he wanted it and got it -- maybe he stole it from someone??? maybe YOU
Final battle:
Togekiss (his signature Pokémon) [tera flying?]
Garchomp [tera fairy maybe, fuck you up lol]
Hisuian Arcanine
Spiritomb
Milotic
[Either Roserade, Lucario, Hisuian Braviary, maybe normal Braviary, or Metagross as a final choice]
Could substitute Spiritomb for Flutter Mane/Iron Jugulis depending on game
Also maybe it could have it so if you have Hisuian Pokemon on your team [example, my H.Zoroark that beat his ass in Legends lmfao] he has a special reaction !! that would be cool!!!
like... "You... You remind me of someone."
Also his theme IS playing in the background and there will be more Legends Arceus music and jingles because that's an awesome way to give all the players a heart attack /silly
So like what he's wearing...
So most of the game when he's disguised he has this cool like... Archeology outfit, and his main motive for being there is "exploring the habitat" and stuff because it's all man-made and there's cool pokemon
He's hiding either his hair or his entire face maybe he has a mask idk but he is like genuinely disguising himself
Near the end when he reveals himself/you figure him out he unhides his face/hair and he looks so fucked up he probably has scars and his hair is like still dyed in the back and kinda everywhere he looks cool
yeah those r my ideas I'm so normal abt volo

I said last Kieran post, but then I got hit with some meme inspiration, so this one will be the last post for a while.
It's kinda like watching what happened with Volo getting consumed by his obsession in real-time, having front-row seats to his descent into madness.
