Hi, I don't know if you're taking requests but if you are, can I please have Mello matt l and Nea's reaction to their s/o giving them flowers?

It's been a while since I've written for this fandom, but I hope you still want these! ♡ Anyway, I'll be a bit more active these couple of days. Requests are open :)

L eyes the flowers deadpan, then looks at you. "You don't need to go out of your way to buy cheesy things for me," he says bluntly. Of course, he would say something like that. But you assure you have these gestures to show that you love him and want him to feel valued and appreciated. He gives you a tiny smile before accepting the flowers.

Mello: Before tender offerings like this, Mello can't help but feel terribly out of place. Back at Wammy's, no one cared for him, and in the Mafia, it was all about alliances and interests. So, for him, it's a peculiar sensation—feeling cherished. Despite the mix of vulnerable feelings, he smirks and charmingly takes the gift, not without teasing you for it.

Matt doesn't care for most things; in fact, he barely cares about anything. Definitely, before you gift him the flowers, he swears romantic gestures like this were indifferent to him. However, it feels more than nice to know you're thoughtful enough to make such a gesture. Despite his initial thoughts on the matter, Matt finds himself smiling like a fool.

Near: He's more than happy to have you around. The timbre of your voice soothes him in ways he can't quite grasp. You're aware of this, even though he doesn't always meet your gaze when you speak. His attention only shifts upon hearing the rustle of wrapping paper. He's stunned for a moment before you explain. Near takes the gift gently. "You shouldn't have bothered. Thank you." You smile at him, and he keeps the flowers close until they eventually wither.

L - probably doesn’t care for materialistic things but would love it if you bought him things he needs for work or stuff like that. he would also be very pleased if you were always to buy him (or even make him) sweets and cakes. if you did get him items with materialistic value he’d be appreciative of course, but he’d repeat that he doesn’t need that stuff to be happy with you. but as i said, he’d appreciate it nonetheless.

mello - he wants to be the best and he wants to do it as independently as possible. it would take a while for him to get used to your way of showing love, but he’d eventually become more and more grateful of the things you get for him. he would secretly ponder over the idea that you saw something, thought of him, and got it for him as a gift. it takes him a while to open up and trust people, so after he did he’d love it

near - if it’s toys or anything of that kind, he’s accepting it with no doubt or indifference whatsoever. he’d be very thankful. i feel like it would take him a while to warm up to the fact that you’re actively going out and getting him gifts, that you’re thinking of him, but he would eventually get the love you’re showing for him. he’s just simply not used to these kinds of things

matt - he would love it the most out of them all i think, but particularly if it’s a gift with more sentimental value than anything else. for example, something you made for him yourself. he would like that you’ve put personal care into it, even if it’s small. in general, he’s the most modest. i genuinely believe that matt can be kept happy if he has cigarettes, junk food, video games and that’s it. he’s a simple guy, but won’t deny your gifts.

ok!! finally got around to it! sorry abt the wait lol

ok so i’m going to condense these & limit myself for now,, but anyways here’s a little something abt each of the boys

there's more art at the very bottom of this text btw :)

A -

he was the in-house music/pop culture expert. if you needed a music recommendation you could go to him and he'd definitely find you something.

he was a master violinist, but after being scouted for wammy's he set his sights on the guitar and spent years learning how to play. his fingers were pretty much always calloused because he kept losing his picks.

he never lost his irish accent.

B -

he was the reigning king of pranks. never turn your back on him, i mean it, he will hotwire your car to roll down a hill (true story, ask roger)

the thing that set him apart at wammy's the most was the fact that he would just. get the mop out. sometimes. it wasn't unusual to spot him cleaning something unprompted. clean freak b? clean freak b.

after A died, he didn't stay long. he couldn't stand to be under the same roof as L, and for the short while he was still in the house he moved around like a ghost, seething with just. grief and anger. he left without a word, or a note, or any sort of message at all.

L- (for everybody's sake i'll keep this one short)

he's been to his fair share of concerts, shows etc (i'm an 'L actually went out in public' truther till i die)

as teens, A & B helped him deck out his padded cell with posters etc to liven it up, and he never took them down. over time he converted it into a ragtag office

he and roger are not friends. far from it. they so do not get along. L still calls him 'codger' occasionally and roger gets reminded of B every single time.

Matt-

he cuts & dyes his own hair, and he definitely got into stick n pokes (+ bonus: the first time he bleached his hair, he had mello help him & the two geniuses forgot to use toner, so he wound up ginger. everything worked out, though, because he wanted to dye his hair red anyways)

he used to creep downstairs at ungodly hours and raid the newly stocked dining hall for cereal. he has run into L multiple times doing this.

he gives me 'broke his arm as a kid and had to wear a cast' vibes. i can't explain it, that hc just calls to me.

Mello-

like L, he got into his fair share of scraps as a kid. they've bonded over that. (+bonus: he has bitten someone before)

he was fiercely protective of matt & near when he was younger in an 'only i can bully them' kind of way that is so common with siblings.

labb gives me an excuse to imagine him as a big reader so that's what i'm doing! he read the classics as a kid & he wrote in his off time too,, he has dozens of journals that will never see the light of day.

Near-

he arrived at wammy's very young, he was actually the youngest wammy alumni on record.

i haven't gotten the opportunity to draw him with it yet, but i hc him as a cane user! a cane that linda customized for him at L's request. (from now on i Will include it in all of my near art istg)

out of the successor trio, he's the only person who was around when A was alive. he has one vague memory of A, that being A giving him a tiny wordless wave.

How would flustered wammy's boys be?

AHHHHH I LOVE THINKING ABOUT THIS!!!!!! thank u for the ask anon 🫶 (and sorry for the delay shdjsh this has been stewing in my drafts) mello i honestly think the only way mello can react is to deflect, get pissed off and maybe even insult the person who flustered him sgdhsgd

he'd 100% feel the desperate need to take back the power and restore the hierarchy of the conversation

i also find it hilarious to imagine that he found a defence mechanism where he'd straight up make up lies in response to comments that used to make him flustered bc it gave the upper hand back to him in conversations

so for example if someone said his shoes look stupid he'd respond with "my family died in a house fire and these boots were one of the very few things that made it out of the flames unscathed. they're the only tangible memorabilia of my father i have left." putting on this incredibly offended expression, and the embarrassment was immediately flipped to the other person near i feel like near would just look down silently, maybe making a logical comment on what made him flustered. but i dont think one can fluster near very easily, since he mostly just doesnt give a single fuck about what others think of him

i like to think that he's much more prone to being flustered when the topic is emotional or connected to his looks. receiving a compliment will probably do it, so for example one of the SPK members could compliment his shirt, and near would pause for a long moment, look down at his shirt contemplatively, and begin to realise that: a) he is actively being perceived b) someone noticed the shirt he picked out today is different than usual c) mentioned it looks nice

he'd then get a little red in the face, and without looking the person in the eyes, he'd say something along the lines of "I'm glad you think so."

matt i think matt would be incredibly good at hiding that he is flustered, and just covering it with a witty remark, then proceeding to hurriedly change the topic

i personally think flirting and compliments knock him to his knees shdjsh but he wouldnt let that show, so if someone flirtatiously states he looks good, first his heart would stop briefly but then he'd reply with something like "i think you mean devastatingly handsome"

Okay listen, You'd have to be together for a long ass time before he even considered it. L has to be sure he can trust you and that you can handle him.

Proposing had never crossed his mind until Watari jokingly mentioned it, to be honest.

You know L's making plans because one day, he starts asking blunt questions on the matter. Until the night comes when he asks: "Would you like us to get married?"

And you're like, "Yeah? I mean, why not? We've been together for a while now."

That's it. I'm sorry. This man doesn't understand romance, but I personally would like to think he at least gave you the ring inside a slice of cake.

Two: he asks at the pure style of the mob. Fancy, luxury, and suddenly your reception is full of dangerous personalities.

I think the ceremony would be short and not in a church, yet there might be some religious items there as decoration and symbolism.

The reception would be glamorous. Dark and elegant. Maybe a black and burgundy palette.

Honeymoon

IDK maybe Vegas? Something fun and exhilarating that keeps you both on thrill all the time!

I think that when he's in love Mello is really into spending time with his s/o, and has a hard time leaving, so I think it'd be a long honeymoon that only ends when Mello truly needs to get back to work.

MATT

Tattoo rings probably. He may or may not have proposed with a candy ring.

I don't really see him being big about this, but as you wanted it, and it's exciting for you he'd oblige.

The ceremony / reception

Can you have a Star Wars-themed wedding? No? :´( Oh, what about a lord of the rings one?! No? oh. Okay. So he guesses something based on a game is out the table too, huh? Yeah. Well, you can pick.

There wouldn't be one if not for you, so you get to choose: a beach wedding, forest wedding, or city wedding, he'll go with what you pick.

Honeymoon

Matt's idea of a perfect honeymoon is junk food and recording your reactions to horror games to watch later with popcorn as a comedy movie

If you're okay with that then cool! If not, I guess he'll allow you to pick the place as well, as long as you don't make force him to be outdoors for too long.

NEAR

Never thought about marriage until you jokingly call him your husband and damn, it felt good.

Strategically leaves multiple hints that it be better if you two joined forces for like... a lifetime. 

He's confident that you'll say yes. Yet he's terribly anxious when he asks.

It doesn't last much, but it's worth every second. You'd have breakfast together and then create some pieces of art with the first sun rays of the morning, after which you share a shower.

I'm sorry for the delay! I got overwhelmed 😭 in the end, I just went "for all the reborn asks I haven't finished, I'll just answer one letter, for one character."

I've already done L for S - here - so I'll do Mello for S.

Iiiiiii think he's gay. That's about it. homosexual. I don't really think he's on the ace spectrum; maybe demi or grayromantic. Mello is someone I really struggle to characterise. I don't really have a canon reason for my headcanons either lol. We don't really see him interacting with women in a not holding a gun at their heads sort of way, so I suppose that doesn't help with headcanoning him as not attracted to them. But I'm also a big fan of mellodramattic and recently thanks to the fandom (cough cough LEVI) meronia. As for the arospec side, I think Mello takes a while to warm up to people and displays of affection, especially the more traditional type, aren't his thing. I don't think he really does romantic things. I don't really know, though. It's a bit wishy-washy.

-hello! it has been a while but i couldn’t miss near’s birthday HBD KING😎this is all just silliness, kind of what he and other characters would do to celebrate.

-at wammy’s, near probably didn’t care to celebrate his birthday a lot. i don’t think he would’ve cared too much about friendship, like when he declines the offer to join the other kids.

-but i feel like matt wanted to talk to him every now and then, even if he knew near was fine

-so when he found out near’s birthday, he’d make an effort to wish him a good day and maybe even get him a present

-but that’s about it for near’s childhood birthday celebrations. i don’t think he’d remember a lot from when he was really young, i think he’d have been at wammy’s since he could remember

-in the future i’m gonna imagine near, mello, matt and l having some kind of celebration (for silliness only, the classic everybody is fine au)

-l and watari begging to take care of the cake preparations but matt INSISTING that he’s got it covered.

-the cake is not very tasty (matt was probably stoned and mixed up the salt and sugar LMAOO) and he would probably attempt to draw a character of some kind on the cake, only to have it fail miserably and look like some kind of sleep paralysis demon

-he would’ve asked around to find out what flavour near would like the most but probably tried to do some kind of chocolate layer for mello. he knows that mello is not that cool with near and probably won’t be having the time of his life so he wants to fix that!! (it does not work, bless his soul for trying)

-near is honestly not all that interested after a bit of time, he has to be dragged away from his toys or whatever random thing he’s working on

-matt is trying to get him in the birthday spirit even though he’s fatally exhausted from playing video games all night. mello is his usual brooding self and l is honestly just enjoying the cake

-however this dysfunctional family makes it work somehow. mello can… uh… mellow out for a day…

X - (X-Ray) Toxicologist & science prodigy, X uses her boundless energy & determination to give her best effort to whatever project they’re working on. She’s fond of pranks and is resourceful. They think outside the box and aren’t afraid to bend the rules to get what they want. She keeps her colleague’s spirits up. She has a way of explaining things that makes information accessible to anybody, and she has thought about teaching before. She hopes to secure a job in the science field regardless, with or without the assistance of the House. 

Y - (Yulie)

Wammy’s House’s archivist & an aspiring journalist, Y has a way of obtaining information that otherwise wouldn’t see the light of day. She has a stoic and elusive personality to those who aren’t fortunate enough to really know her, and because of her access to top secret information, she’s learned how to keep potentially life altering secrets. She has information that she will take to the grave. If she decides that she can trust you, she’s an invaluable ally to have. 

Z - (Zen)

The picture of a Wammy’s Letter Holder, young, intelligent, and willing to devote himself to the cause, Z is an aspiring field agent, not unlike F. He possesses unmatched intuition, having this ability to read people that the other members of the team lack. He’s universally known as a human lie detector among Wammy’s Staff. He never showed any interest in becoming a successor, instead choosing to do whatever he wanted, whenever he wanted. His near-perfect test scores and willingness to lend his skills to the Staff allowed him this leniency.

since we don't have a canon timeline for when exactly the detective war happens, i've decided that in my version of events takes place between 1999-2000, 2 years before the events of LABB. these three were all a part of L's generation, so they're 20 at the time of the case

near

~ although near does usually prefer it when you both are equals during sex, he can't help the swell of satisfaction in his heart when you call him that. after all, he has an ego like every other man on this list, and near gets something out of being at least somewhat in control, even in your sexual encounters where he does normally prefer not for anyone to be dominant. it's not like he needs to hear you say it every time, but near certainly doesn't mind when you do. besides, it means you like what he's doing and he's making you feel good, which is what he wants most.

ryuzaki

~ he probably spends the most time being surprised out of anybody else on this list. he doesn't have anything against it- besides, it would probably kill the mood if ryuzaki paused mid-sex to ask about it and what brought it on- but he just is somebody who likes having answers. so he may or may not literally interview you about it later- did he do something different? is that something that might happen again? what prompted you to call him that? he must know, even if you can hardly even sit up or form a full sentence yet.
