I’m autistic/adhd, I used to yell and scream and meltdown, I used to be mute, I have a “short attention span” I am all those things. And I used an iPad, but I was all those things prior, I had always been.

and also the fact that neurotypical people can pick autistic and neurodivergent people out immediately, and how they are reacting to iPad kids.

like it’s because they are the undiagnosed kids, they are the mentally ill kids, they present like this, I should know!

People who blame kids not going outside anymore on technology will never cease to make me laugh.

First of all, the outdoors today compared to what it was even just as little as 10 years ago? Dangerous, disgusting, undesirable, quite frankly terrifying.

Second, if your next argument is going to be “but they won’t even go in the back yard!” I grew up with access to technology. I still played in the backyard all summer and got excited to go sledding on snow days in the winter. Maybe you should rethink your parenting, and how you treat technology with your kids. If you’re shoving an iPad in your kids face every time they cry… Guess what? That child is going to associate that iPad with comfort. They are not going to want to be separated from it. It’s the exact same as a child with a special stuffy they won’t let go of. That item has been attached to the idea of comfort and safety. You did that by not giving them screen time limits, and not parenting properly.

Technology can only be the cause of children not going outside if you let it be. It is 100% caused by your parenting choices.

Like literally the whole iPad kid thing is just a symptom of the larger issue of parents refusing to actually parent their children in any way. Your child is going to have to play catch up for the rest of their life to just learn reading , writing, and math because you decided they could rot their brain with a tablet in their formative years instead of engaging with them, helping them learn, and giving them the tools to manage their emotions. You should be slowly introducing technology to them. Give them limited time on the iPad or computer when they are older, if they want to listen to music give them an mp3 or a cd player, if they want to watch something put on a movie for them. Read to them, give them creative outlets, for the love of god be present in their life or you will be setting them up for failure. Your child’s teachers are not their babysitter and disciplinarian, you are, so act like it.
