There's some dude (derogatory) on FB who is PISSED people are pricing their farm fresh eggs at $2 and $3 a dozen instead of $4+, saying it's "disrespectful" and "undignified" and "I'm trying to feed my kids" like Sir, you are on a Facebook group page bitching about your neighbors egg prices because your pet chickens aren't earning you a living wage and you think it's your neighbors' fault, you do not have a leg to stand on here wrt dignity.
Also half the answers are like "I give them to friends and family free" or "I donate them to food banks" or "I'm making them affordable to folks who might not otherwise be able to get them now that they're so expensive in the store" and "if you think you're going to turn a profit keeping backyard chickens you have been wildly misled" and so on, and so forth, and I'm so living for it.
and I can tell you right now, he did NOT like my answer of "if you're trying to feed your kids, I hear eggs are edible."

Apologies to everyone who follows me because you’re about to be subjected to SO much Lisa Frankenstein posting, I am so deeply abnormal about this movie and I would not be surprised if it ended up being one of my top ten favorite movies of all time.
My only wish is that my theatre could have been more crowded, it was a pretty dead audience (pun intended) which meant I spent a solid 60% of my energy trying not to cause a scene every time there was a needle drop or anything that felt like it was specifically calling me out for being a weird little goth.

Today's Mending
I'd really hoped to be well enough to sit up at my sewing machine today and knock through a pile of mends that are waiting on the machine. No such luck; my temp went back up today. Two steps forward, one step back.
"I will no longer berate myself for resting," I said as I laid in bed for three hours after waking up. "I will no longer berate myself for resting," I chanted as I sewed while bending in strange positions on the floor. "I will no longer berate myself for resting," I promise myself, taking cough syrup and ibuprofen and lying down again.
So here's what's been done today. I enjoyed it. I don't need to punish myself for doing less than yesterday. Anything I get to take a needle to is a blessing and a joy.
Tumblr media
First up is my brother's suitcoat. Yep, the brother with the 30" waist and the 40" hip. He asked me to take it in. I've never messed with tailoring coats, but I gave it a shot today. I basted the center back seam in sort of a diamond shape. So far I don't like it and it makes weird bubbles.
I watched a tutorial that takes the jacket in at both side seams primarily. I'll have Joe try it on first, once I'm well enough to be around people, and then see what I can do to the jacket.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I found two random little cuts in the hem of this hoodie. Can't imagine what did that, but there they were. I mended a tiny cut in this same hoodie's sleeve yesterday with blue thread, so I carried on with the blue mends.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, I got some blue fabric from a free bin! The tag shows 4.67 yards for $4.67 and a purchase date in 2003. I also found two GORGEOUS pillowcase tops in that same bin. The yellow isn't usually my color, but since they're handmade, I just had to take them.
I like to think that these came from the same sewist. Maybe they never put the fabrics together--the yardage seems more fitting for a dress--but I hope they'd be happy to see their hard work being used. They're going to become my primary pillowcases.
Today I just cut out the backs. Some other day I'll sew all the seams.
Tumblr media
I was out thrifting, on my way to the register, and this miniskirt jumped off the rack, bit me, and asked to become a tote bag. Well, not quite, but that's essentially what happened. I have serviceable sewing and crochet project bags, but I don't have one big enough for a swimsuit, towel, sunscreen, and change of clothes. This will be it!
I've thought of every way to add a bottom to the bag, and eventually I settled on sewing it shut. I have scads of heavy-duty cream-colored blue-striped canvas (from the same free bin! I'm saving it to make a corset), so I'm making the straps out of that. Today I just cut and pinned them. I'm finally coming around to the trend of stripes with flowers, I guess.
Tumblr media
I cut out a couple more patches for these awesome summer shorts. Then I remembered that I'm sick and exhausted. And that somebody else has my iron right now. So, they can wait.

It's a shame Misako's writing in the first few seasons was dogshit, bc she has one of the coolest concepts for a character I can think of
Like, she's a mortal woman who fell in love with a ~1000 year old demigod who has been cursed to fall to evil since he was a child, and her son is the chosen one destined to face her husband, his own father, in a duel to the death that will decide the fate of the world, and when she learns about her son's fate, she tries to find a way around destiny.
That's such a cool idea for a character!!!
But then the writers decided to take this super interesting idea for a character, and only use her for exposition and a shitty love triangle between her husband of several decades and his brother.
I'd say I haven't seen a character with such good potential be so wasted by the show their in since Adrien Agreste, but at least his bad writing hasn't made him the punching bag for 95% of the ML fandom

Was having some trouble with my newest doily, dropping stitches and just generally having a hard time knitting and couldn't figure out why. And then I realized I had nearly 250 stitches jammed onto a 8 inch cable (16 inches including needle tips).
I moved it onto my 14 inch cable but realized immediately it could fit on my 22 inch cable (and did a bit of math, the final row of this doily is going to be 640 stitches and that'll need my 22 inch cable minimum). So after a bit of musical cables, he's finally laying mostly flat.
This guy is a square doily so he won't lay fully flat until I get him off the needles but he's already looking cute as hell. And bigger than I thought. The pattern says he'll be about 10 inches by 10 inches but I'm about halfway through his rows and he's already over 8 inches wide.

I just got a jury summons. This is the fucking ninth time since I was 18 that I’ve been called and I’m so fucking pissed because I know at least 20 people that have never been called ever! The last fucking time I missed being selected for grand jury by one person which is one week a month for a year. And worst yet the one that was chosen for grand jury was a friend and was sequestered and spent 90 days in a crack house hotel with three cops watching every move. Fuck that!! One time I was chosen and the trial was a child sexual abuse case that the prosecution was going to show videos of a grandfather touching his granddaughter…… NOPE! I protested and got called to chambers. I said if you have videos then why the fuck am I here? Excused! This fucking infuriates me!

Why do people act like art/entertainment taste is the equivalent of morality??
Because seriously, "good" or "bad" taste is only subjective and it doesn't matter at all. We all like different stuff and we have our reasons for it, but unless your reason goes hand in hand with actual actions trying to hurt others, it doesn't matter.

Replacing my bag strap
Unlike many of my clothes and accessories this bag isn't thrifted. It's a bag by Jawbreaker that I absolutely love the look of, it has multiple pockets, tons of space inside, and is clearly great quality as I've had it for over 10 years and it's almost good as new. It's the only handbag I own, and I've no desire to get a new one.
Tumblr media
However the one bit I've had to replace multiple times is the shoulder strap, since that's the bit that gets most wear and tear.
It originally had the kind of strap which clips on, but the problem with those is that after years of metal rubbing against metal, eventually it wears away to the point where the clip is thin enough that it snaps. Last couple of times I just put a new clip on, however this time not only were the clips worn away but so were the d-rings you're supposed to attach them to, so I did a more thorough job.
First of all I unpicked the stitching attaching the d-rings to the bag and replaced them with these large rectangular ones. I always save metal hardware from clothing items I mod or that are finally old and worn enough to be thrown away, and I think these came from a skirt. Happily I had two the same, so I used bits of the old strap which weren't too badly worn to make loops to sew them on.
Tumblr media
I sewed them by hand with thick top-stitch thread doubled over, and I even did those criss-cross stitching lines to make them extra secure.
I then went to a nearby charity shop hoping to find a cheap bag I could steal the strap from, but even better, I came across this belt, the construction of which was extremely similar to the detailing already on the bag. It was £1, way cheaper than a replacement strap from ebay, which I have also bought in the past.
Tumblr media
I didn’t want to cut the buckle off because the belt fabric would fray, so I unpicked the stitching around the buckle instead, and put the buckle away in my crafting box to hopefully reuse in the future - like I said, I save everything.
Tumblr media
I wanted the eyelets on the belt to be visible as they match the rest of the eyelets on the bag, so I put the belt through the rectangle and folded it over as far as I could while still showing all the eyelets, then sewed it shut. Again, I did multiple rows of stitching to keep it secure, and I also oversewed down both sides.
Tumblr media
I don't have a sliding buckle that would enable me to adjust the strap length, but I never adjust my bag strap anyway, so I just put the strap over my shoulder, adjusted it to a length that I liked, and sewed that end together too. This was a long belt so I ended up doubling it over quite far, but that's good as it will make this section of the new strap extra thick, so hopefully it's extra strong.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And there we go, it looks as if I bought it like this!

Today's Mending
It was another day in quarantine, but I feel like a human again, which was a blessing. So I sat up at the machine and tried to make some progress.
Tumblr media
The machine gave me all sorts of trouble today, no matter how I fiddled with the tension and needle. The stitch lengths were twelve kinds of inconsistent and as skippy as a Labrador in a mud puddle.
I posted on Facebook, and a friend's grandma reminded me to unscrew the bottom plate and have a look at the insides.
Tumblr media
Bleagh. Look at all that lint!
Anyway, turns out the feed dogs are a lot more consistent when they aren't fighting with felt compacted underneath them. I got the straps sewn up in short order, learned how to do that neat little x-box thing, and finished off the miniskirt tote bag!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I had a couple mending commissions that got procrastinated for ages because I needed to find patches and thread that matched. They took just a few minutes each when I actually got to them. Guess that's always the case.
Tumblr media
My friend Isaiah had done a good job mending these, but all he had was light turquoise thread, and he was a bit self-conscious about having such a visible crotch mend. I put a patch of jersey under, just for stability's sake, and machined overtop in the closest thread I had.
Tumblr media
My roommate's partner's pet got ahold of some jeans and tore a raggedy hole in the important part. I trimmed down the edges, found my closest fabric, and machined all around the edges with my closest thread. The mend is still visible, but he usually wears flannels so it shouldn't be obvious. And, as I told him, "If someone does notice, you're legally allowed to kick them."
The final three projects were all for me. First up were these work pants. A couple years ago I started doing the DIY ripstop but didn't finish (time? thread? machine issues? ADHD? idk). I just had the vertical threads. They wore on each other as I walked and started tearing out really quickly. I unpicked all that old thread a while back and re-did the vertical threads, then got sidetracked (yes, again.) So today I did the rest of the ripstop. There!
Tumblr media
I also did all the ripstop for these black summer shorts.
Tumblr media
Finally, my Christmas break project was adding cargo pockets to all my pants. These less-used jeans have had pockets cut out and pinned on since then, so today I dug out fun aquamarine thread and sewed them down.
Tumblr media
I spent the end of the day messing around with my new pillowcases, but I'll drop those when they're done. :) And, most importantly, I slept in, ate well, took my meds, didn't berate myself for lack of progress, and took a nap. All in all, a really good sick day!

People be out here saying "don't get the free plastic bags from the store, just buy reusable ones!" as though my parents haven't been using the same 10 free plastic bags for the past seven years.
Most things are reusable if you have enough determination.
This is a shitpost I support environmentalism and also people who need disposable shit for health reasons I just thought this was funny please don't hate me-

so when we first got my kitty Oliver, I gave him a webkinz frog as his first toy and he beat the absolute shit out of it. a few years later, I got him a new one and that one only occasionally gets pummeled. But I found a third one the other day and decided to do a little transplant.
Im taking out the beans in the feet (he popped the bags on the original one so that was a fun mess) and im replacing the beans with catnip bc they (Oliver and Pepper (my other baby)) LOVE catnip so fucking much so I think they'll really enjoy this :)
But I thought I'd share in case anyone was wondering how the beans were set up in webkinz feet.
