As I rewatch bits of the first three Volumes (due to reasons), the more I think about Blake, her motivations, etc, the less I understand why they thought it was a good idea to give her two functioning, alive, good-natured, influential/royalty parents.

Like, I REALLY doubt they had wanted Blake to be some rich faux-activist girl whose whole worldview gets disproven and whose most notable dialogue lines end up retroactively sounding outright nonsensical.

Like, what was the train of thought on flipping her entire character upside down like this beyond "Oh, all other RWBY members have messed up parent issues, so let's give her happy, healthy parents"? Was there even a train of thought?

Or did they just invent her parents on the spot because they had no idea where Blake would have gone after V3 ended and had to make up an entire unimportant-side-journey she could be stashed away in for a while (and also wanted to throw her into a subplot with Sun to counter-balance all the Yang stuff because the show was still hellbent on queerbaiting so they had to find a way to place Sun into a situation where he gets hurt for Blake so it's not just Yang as her motivation)?

summary: dora milaje!reader. your job becomes increasingly difficult when a certain princess is persistent on making you hers.

a/n: in my head reader still has hair, but do as you please. im very attached to my hair, but a bald era is tempting. anyways, i had pre WF shuri in mind bc she seems more bratty then, but again, as you please

“Nkosazana! Are you alright?” Princess.

“Could you come here, please?” she shouted back.

You eyed the door suspiciously, unsure if you should enter, especially with all the antics she pulls. Reluctantly, you respond. “I’m coming in now, assure you are decent.”

If this were anyone else, you would’ve burst in without question, but with the princess, things were different. When you’d been assigned to protective duty over her, you immediately asked the gods why they’d do such a thing. Ever since you became a Dora, the princess made it her job to torture you, tease you, push your buttons just to see what reaction she could evoke. You assumed it was just her defiant nature, her being drawn to the thought of such an illicit affair. Though other times, it seemed she just wanted someone by her side—you.

You accompanied her on trips to the market, walks around the capitol, and wherever she roamed in the palace. She would start by asking your opinion on some object, usually tech or clothing. It would escalate to spending hours with each other, walking aimlessly until nightfall talking about everything from the weather to believing in the gods.

You began to look forward to seeing her, talking to her, laughing with her, simply being around her, but you were also keen on never letting things get to far. Shuri had a tendency to make her advances ever so prominent when you weren’t in the confines of the castle. From lingering touches, suggestive language, and walking a little to close for comfort between royalty and warrior. This cat and mouse game had gone on for months, and unbeknownst to you, the princess planned on winning.

You peaked your head in and scanned the room before walking in completely. “Shuri?” You called, spear pointed fiercely in front of you. You continued until she came walking from her closet, your jaw parting as your spear lowered.

Bast, help you.

There she was, in all her glory. Standing in the skimpiest satin robe you’ve ever seen, nipples perking against the pearl-colored fabric. You felt shameful as your eyes betrayed you, scanning over her body, not used to seeing this much skin. The robe stopped just under the curve of her ass, the front tied loosely with the belt ends dangling mid thigh.

“You’re staring.” she said, a confident, cocky smirk on her lips as you snapped your eyes back to her face.

Quickly straightening out your back and tightening the grip on your spear, you replied. “What is it you need, princess?”

“My towel.”

You gave her a deadpan look. “You pressed the emergency button on your beads,” you began, “so I could fetch your towel?”

She nodded simply. “Mmhm, it’s just there,” she pointed to the cupboard above the mirror, “on the top shelf.”

You clenched your jaw as she smiled at you, she fucking smiled. “And put that spear down, would you? You’re going to poke someone’s eye out.” It was then when you realized what a death grip you had on the object. If it weren’t made of vibranium-laced metal, you’re sure it would’ve bent.

Nonetheless, you obliged before walking over to the girl, standing directly in front of her. She looked up at you with those bright, beautiful eyes. ‘Lo mfazi uya kuba kukufa kwam’ you thought. This girl will be the death of me.

You faced the mirror, reaching up and stretching your fingers a few times before grabbing it as you heard the shower start.

“Here you go, my princess. Your beloved towe-” you said while turning around. Only to be met with Shuri’s bare body, accompanied by a small smile as she stood in front of the shower door, her robe abandoned at her feet.

“Shuri!” You shrieked, turning around, yet meeting her frame once more in the mirror. “Princess,” you said sternly, looking at the floor, “These…games have gone on long enough. This is highly unprofessional and inappropriate. It was ignorant of me to indulge in this-this-”

“This what?” She asked, taking a step towards you, her gaze lustful and longing. “Admit it, sana, you like me.”

Your eyes remained glued to the floor as she stalked toward you, like predator to prey. You swallowed thickly as she came closer. “It does not matter how I feel-”

“Uyaxoka,” she whispered, circling your body, her breath warm on the back of your neck. You’re lying.

“-your family, my duty, the elders! What would they think of us?” You meant for your words to be stern and stoic, but the response came out meekly, your body unable to hide the underlying desire you tried so hard to fight.

“I think,” she said slowly, “you are wearing far too much clothing.” As she spoke, top of your armor slid off your body, landing on the tile with a clang.

You shivered as the cool air meets your breasts, nipples hardening at the change—and your arousal. She walked back to your front holding your gaze as she lowered herself.

“Princess,” you warned.

It was no use, though. She smiled deviously as she slid your boot off, one hand on your inner thigh to keep you steady as she repeated on the other foot.

“Princess.”

Looking down at her, she wasn’t looking at you. Her eyes were glued to her hands that were quickly and skillfully tugging down waistband of your pants, along with your underwear. She kept her eyes down as she guided your body out each garment, finally smiling up at you once she had you where—or perhaps how—she wanted you.

She kissed your thighs, massaging the soft skin of your hamstrings as she moaned softly.

“Nkosazana,” you said breathlessly. Shuri rose to her feet, her face inches from yours.

“Ubufowunele?” she answered slyly, laughing at your compromised state. You called?

“Please,” you begged, tilting your head back as you placed arms around her neck. She hummed in approval before kissing your neck slowly, hands on your hips while walking you backwards towards the shower.

Just as she left it, the door was open as steam poured out the entrance. She trailed her lips up your jawline as your back hits the wall.

Shuri peals her mouth off you, keeping her body close. She hovers over your lips. You part yours almost instinctively.

Her lips curl into a smile at your neediness.

“I thought you’d never ask.”

If you had to kill off a character, who would you kill off?

If I had to murk anyone, it would come down to four different choices for four completely different criteria.

For Being Scummy : Proffesor Port = Between his VA's own behavior and his in-show leering of Yang - this character deserved what Roman got in Roman's place. This character could be replaced by nearly anything else and I would be more content. It doesn't matter that he's a side character, the fact that really compelling villains and heroes got fridged and this creep is still hanging around in the background shooting the sh*t with Tai and Oobleck makes me ick.

2. For Taking Up Too Much Screentime : Jaune Arc = I wouldn't dislike him if he was the title card character, the actual main character of the show. But because Jaune is established as part of the supporting cast, a lot of the time devoted to him then creates a problem for Ruby feeling underdeveloped.

Ruby's own rivalry with Cinder? Ruby getting to face off against Cinder in a one-on-one? Those kinds of things end up going to Jaune while Ruby fiddles around with Emerald, or ends up getting knocked off with Neo as Jaune gets to be the last one to fall, with the longest bit of narrative focus.

I honestly believe Jaune should've died in Pyrrha's stead just from a narrative perspective, because Ruby herself was far more connected to Jaune than Pyrrha, and it would've played on the much more gut wrenching trope of killing off the comedic relief to establish that darker tone the story begins to take. Jaune missing from the story would've had a great effect because he us such an endearing character once people put aside how he's handled. He's dorky, well-intentioned, clumsy, and kind. He's a character that made me laugh the most in the early volumes because there is this bumbling energy to him.

No longer having his antics around to lighten up dark moments, and getting to see someone as kind-hearted and self-sacrifing as Pyrrha, spiral due to losing her closest companion? That's oozing potential.

3. Wish They'd Fridged You Before You Rotted : Adam Taurus

It's no secret that I love Early Volumes Adam as a menacing and complex threat. The fact that they turned him into a hatesink incel is just... disappointing. I don't condone anything that Adam does, I just wish he could've been something nuanced.

Honestly I think this is one instance where it might've been better to have him fridged by Cinder in V2 before the abuse narrative begins, robbing Blake of closure with someone she once deeply respected, creating a vengeance dynamic between Salem's forces and the WF to keep the subplot more relevant, open the door on more intricate moments of possible 'the enemy of my enemy is my friend'.

Or even have him killed off by Sienna to establish her as the real authority of the WF, and have it be motivated by how Adam let Blake run off in the Black Trailer, creating this understanding that the WF is run like a tyranny where some people might want to leave or not use violence anymore, but are being strong-armed by Sienna.

Just... ditch the incel characterization on a character intended to be a racially motivated terrorist, who experienced literal slavery and was branded like cattle. He could've been a shadow that haunted Blake's narrative in a much more meaningful way.

Bring out things that had been left unsaid between them, regrets she had about not being able to reason with him and now never being able to have another chance to, have her reflect on her own actions when they were together / be emboldened to go after the WF. A friend she couldn't save but cared for, a figure of strength alongside cruelty - someone who pushed against and helped mold Blake's philosophies and beliefs into what they are. He was originally established to be her mentor - let him be that morally grey, influential figure who used horrible means to create progress for the betterment of their kind.

4. For The Whump Of It & If I Had To Choose a Main Character : Ruby Rose

I adore Ruby, but honestly V9 opened up way too many questions about what a reborn / warped version of Ruby Rose could be, that I couldn't help be more than a little disappointed (for other reasons involving personal issues as well) that she came out of her wooden cocoon as the exact same person from before.

The absolute bullocks to remake the main character so late into the series would also be respectfully tremendous, and I would have loved how tragic it all really could've been.

Ruby losing her memories, her entire sense of self, becoming this single-minded shell devoted to a strict purpose like the other Afterans? Still wanting to save the world, but perhaps being all too willing to do anything to meet that end? The emotional uncanny valley of her knowingly being the remnants of Ruby Rose, but having none of the connections to her friends as she used to, while they're forced to live with the fact that they failed to save who she had been? And they can't exactly abandon this doppelganger who exists as a living reminder of the horrid end of Ruby Rose?

Favorite guilty pleasure character would have to be Adam Taurus. Especially fanon Adam.

Even when he does get hatesinked in the later volumes, it's like... him being such a greasy lil wimp just makes me chuckle. Went from such a strong and mysterious fella, to a cringy discord goblin overnight. It's like turning Slade from Teen Titans into Slade from Teen Titans GO - the downgrade is so palpable it's just a sad lil slob in comparison.

He's my little insecure hate bean. He would tell me off for being a disgusting human and I'd just remind him of how he got pelted in the face by a whole a** motorcycle. Went from carving up whole murder mechs to getting dropped by projectile vehicles.

Then I'd ask him if he wanted to watch Titanic and he would ugly cry into a pillow all night.

The duality of a dumpster fire, to embrace a mask of toxic masculinity, yet, have the vibes of 'I could pick you up by the armpits like a disgruntled house cat'.

Imo. i feel if thatfight in vol 6 shiuld have just been between adam and Blake. yeah no bee stuff but it would do so much for blake as a character, and he’ll probably even for adam. Dont even make it about “ideologies” like i see some ppl wish it was about, it could be just as much about the WF as it could be their relationship. if that relationship was actually fleshedout or whatever, instead of a bad attempt to justify the shows racism. plus sword on sword fight. we could have had our reverse obi vs ani R.O.T.S moment… robbed :(

and also honestly, i dont think they would need to kill him in this version. maybe somehow adam lives but like wounded asf to the point Blake knows he won’t be a threat anymore. maybe she leaves him there, let’s him live with all he’s done. dunno if I wrote that right but thats all I can think of rn. srry this is long

Yes that might be the right way to do it but for WFS not everyone does that. Many man wouldnt even know that ‘rule’. My partner and I hold hands to the car sometimes and he then opens the door for me. No 2 people are the same and as it was only a short distance and Gully was there with opening the door.

Oh was Gully meant to place his hand on Suki’s back as well instead of taking her arm or is that different because she’s pregnant or not his partner. Where was Rob( he did look like he had a few🤣🤣) and Adrien didn’t even bother with his partner🤭

I am tired of antis and BNFs claiming that Sansa was removed from WF succession or Robb bastardized her. Do they mean by making Sansa a bastard, Robb implying that Ned and Catelyn marriage is not valid? Which would mean that not only Sansa but all Starks including him are bastards? If Sansa marriage is problem, then what about Ary@ getting married. God they just want Sansa to be punished.

It is odd, very odd to me, that fans want to argue for why Jon’s claim is better, when the assumption under which Rob is operating when he writes the will, that Jon is his father’s son, is a lie. Let’s say no one will recognize Sansa’s claim before the parentage reveal, fine. But after?

Also, I’m not sure why the fallout of one or both Stark boys potentially showing up alive is ignored by anti Sansa fans in favor of arguing for why Sansa can’t inherit. Say she truly is cut out by the will, say Jon accepts it all, what a horrible position for him to find himself in when Bran returns. The guilt he’d suffer!

I don’t know where the bastardization (that seems like a leap?) idea came in, but I’m guessing it’s related to wanting Arya to inherit? I know I’ve seen some people argue that she is Lady of Winterfell already because they consider Jeyne’s marriage to Ramsay a proxy marriage? Which as you point out, is an odd thing to try to use favorably for Arya’s prospects if we are holding Sansa’s marriage against her.

I think it’s clear in the story that different people will support a different Stark to get what they want. Stannis wanted to use Jon, LF is planning to use Sansa….I think fans shouldn’t use a black & white view of this when we know that each Stark will have people supporting their claim, others trying to downplay it. That's to be expected when the author writes a succession crisis for the North and then plants landmines to fuck everything up. Sansa's marriage will be used against her by some, but Sansa can have her marriage annulled. There is a resolution to the detracting factor to her claim. There isn’t a simple solution for Jon’s issues after parentage reveal, unless of course, it is to marry a Stark girl. 👀 I suppose this is why a lot of fans are happy with Jon going North beyond the Wall in the end because they know it wouldn’t be right for him to take Winterfell, that he wouldn’t feel right about doing so, but they don’t like the way Jon could and be happy about it. 😇

@fedonciadale has written a number of answers to questions about this issue. This about inheritance in Westeros generally, this about the way different people view the Stark line of succession, and many more in the Robb’s Will tag and I recommend perusing those for some more well-informed takes.

Well, I’m immensely disappointed that the SDC was taken down the way it was,

Weiss don’t have to find some way to work around the system, or better yet ohelp Faunus workers dismantle that system and get rid of Jacques,

Jacques just worked for Salem having Weiss a convened excuse to arrest him, then Salem just destroyed all of atlas and almost definitely the SDC as well

The kingdom and company responsible for adam’s brand and the deaths of Ilia’s parents are both gone thanks entirely to Salem,

I’m also actually not looking forward to Ghirardelli show up because I just do not like the guy

I already did,ike that he’s far too passive compared to someone like sienna who was out there kicking ass and robing the SDC

But it’s specifically his words in the Adam trailer that make me think he’s a horrible fit

When adam kills that human who tried to kill ghirah, ghirah says “this is why they think they can-“ before getting cut off by sienna

ghirah, the humans ALREADY tried to kill you simply for existing in their general vicinity! Adam killing this guy in self defense does not in any way “justify” their bigotry,

And if they use it as a justification for their bigotry? That is THEIR fault, not Adam’s, and of course it ignores the fact they where already trying to kill him without any justification whatsoever!

Adam turned out to be a complete bastard but in this scene? Ghirah is in the fucking wrong

And yet the show just………ignores this? It treats it like we’re supposed to be happy he’s in charge again, and everybody so executed to see the bees meet the parents despite this whole fuckinf mess attached to him!

Hell at the beginning of volume 6 we learned being the “good minority” and stopping Adam made the humans like Faunus more apparently

Which reinforces the incredibly harmful ideas of respectability politics, the idea that if oppressed groups simp,y “behave” or “act right”their oppressors will reward them by treating them right, something thats entirely untrue, and ghirah as far as we’ve been shown seems to buy into that whole idea,

Even tho marrow’s entire arc is living proof of how it doesn’t work

And then there’s Ilia, working for Adam was wrong and I’m glad she broke free, but as far as I can tell she’s just following ghira’s lead instead now,

Land all of this just makes it harder for me to like Blake overall, because like it,or not she’s deeply connected to that whole plotline and as far as we’ve been shown, isn’t all that different from ghira, she’s broken the law sure but only for the sake of stopping Salem

We haven’t seen her doing anything like sienna did on robbing the SDC,

Many argue it’s because the show doesn’t have time to do a plot,one of Blake going up against the SDC and they’re probably right,

But what now? Is she gonna fight the atlas refugees in vacuo? When ghira’s militia aready holds more power then them?

Okay, quite a lot to unpack here lol. I think I'll probs start by saying, I'm probably not in a place to comment on the socio-political issues around race when it comes to the WF subplot, I've seen a lot of different takes on it and while I can say with certainty that it never really sat right with me, the best I can do is listen to the voices who are personally affected.

In terms of the SDC, I don't think we've seen the last of it - Whitley took over and while Atlas has fallen, they likely had mines and outlets across Remnant so it'll be interesting to see what happens when they get back to Vacuo.

I genuinely think that as far as Blake's activism is involved - so far there just hasn't been space for it recently, like rn they're in a different world, prior to that they were fighting against a tyrant, and they have a bit of a time crunch against Salem. That's not to say I don't think it'll come back, I think the fact that the idea of being a bridge between humans and faunus was brought up against her younger self, I can see the fact that Blake is now in a relationship with a human and on a team/best friends with Weiss Schnee, being important in building that bridge and repairing the damage SDC and the segregation has done. Whether we'll see it anytime soon is another question. Guess we'll see how Volume 10 goes, huh?

Lastly, I can see some of your points against Ghira - namely, not fighting back when the humans weren't letting up. I think that the humans in that instance left him with no choice but to defend himself, but I think his preferred method would have been to disarm them rather than kill them. I do think Ghira's approach might be a little different going forward but I think the main thing to remember is that while Sienna was more effective in making some progress and Adam ruled with violence and killing while Ghira was initially very passive, Sienna was in a grey area, and Adam was... well, extremist. The WF's original purpose was to achieve equality between the species, but fear and submission isn't the same as equity. It'll be interesting to see if he can strike up a more collaborative approach with the humans.

Personally, I think that the new WF and uniting humans and faunus against Salem might actually end up being key in the 'big fight' if the two brothers get called upon. I hope that this includes Blake and Yang at the helm of a new WF or something too, it'll be nice to see Blake step into that leadership role.

1 it is so easy to miss all the subtleties in Jon's chapters, it's not surprising that they miss the importance of Slynt's beheading. Jon is so clever, and so manipulative (in a kind way, lol), they just don't get it. The point was that Jon wanted to kill Slynt himself, because he hated him and wanted to punish him personally for what he did to Ned. The theme begins with who is noble and who is not, and this from the first chapter they meet. Slynt claims he has a title, so he can't be hanged.

2 Jon remembered this argument, and turned it against Slynt, hence "fetch me a block". Whoops, Sansa's wish just got realized! This elaborate narrative wouldn't ever be a fan's suggestion, it's far too complicated. It's like another one I've seen going round: they say that Jon wanted to go to the Watch for making a career, not because he felt bitter abt not having a place at WF. But when he met Rayder, Jon did the same thing; Rayder told him he wanted to wear whatever cloak he wanted.

3 So when Rayder asked him why he wanted to join the FF, he took his own reply and turned it against him: did you see where they put me in the feast? No Jonerys fan will ever understand this subtle manipulation of Jon. He is unique in finding the other's weakness and turning it against him (my favorite boy). Of course for them this moment also goes unnoticed. Jon is always genuine, so into Ygritte, will be into Daenerys, etc.

They really did Jon’s character a disservice on the whos when they toned down his intelligence and subtlety (and ruthlessness as well!) and molded him into this character who cannot lie. For example, they changed the reasons he gave Mance for “defecting” from the Night Watch.

That Jon is observant and knows how to talk to get what he wants is established in the very first chapter of the book. They find the direwolves and Jon finds exactly the right wording to make Ned relent and let his children have the pups.

He is also really adept at lying with the truth. His interactions with Stannis in TWOW are peak comedy and I love them.

He is also ready to tell the truth when it is necessary and it hurts. So he wields lies and truths on his narrow path of a “bastard’s honour” which he has chosen for himself.

And you are quite right about the scene leading up to Slynt’s execution. Jon wants to kill him and he plays him like a fiddle.

I wouldn’t say though that GRRM must have gotten that idea all by himself. I mean the report of the reading where apparently Slynt was hanged is there. I don’t think it takes anything away from GRRM’s talent if he occasionally is influenced by the idea of others. As I said in my other post the important thing is anyway that GRRM transports Slynt over all of Westeros only so that he can be killed by Jon. It is neater with the beheading but even without that it fits.
